Vermaelen and Cesc make the EPL team of the year, guess who else does?

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Joe Hart! He also kept Birmingham in the game until the unlucky penalty that was despatched by the other debutant in that team, James Milner, whom I would also have by the way.

A quick round up suggests that we are willing to let Rosicky and Gallas go, Denilson and Eduardo too, but that’s an inside rumour, we could be tempted to let Clichy go to Barca in a swap for Bojan and we will try and get Diarra back from Madrid, all of which I doubt, though I would be happy if we got Hart in as well as a defensive midfielder, a centreback and a winger, as we already seem to have Chamakh coming and there’s no way Wenger will splash out on a big name forward.

Now that little lot wouldn’t cost a fortune.

I’m amazed Cesc didn’t at least win young player of the year, but as the players are the ones that vote, you can’t argue. Maybe Cesc will get the writers award. If that hasn’t already happened, I don’t really follow awards as I always believe they are just blowing smoke up already smoke filled arses. A bit like the Oscars and the BBC sports personality of the year.

So it looks like we are going to secure 3rd, which means the players get a rest, the interesting thing is that by the start of next season, all of our players will be fit, including Ramsey, who we unfortunately didn’t win the league for. A fit Arsenal squad in August? Now that’s a first.

So that then leaves the dilemma, the boss has to buy before June as he says the price always goes up during a world cup, I hope he takes around 10 of our young players and gets shot of them, we have way too many kids that will never make it so whats the point in collecting them? We have at least two older players that we should also let go as they are both crocks and will never finish a season, Gallas and Silvestre is who I’m talking about and Almunia is one of those that Wenger should just admit he was wrong on and get rid of. Theo I think should go out on 6 months loan and play in his preferred position, that way we’ll see if he’s got it, and if he hasn’t, time again to admit you can’t always get it right.

I have always believed Theo will become a great, I still do, but maybe he needs to start playing where he wants to and not forced fed on the wing.

We ought to let Djourou take one of the 4 centre back roles and if he gets injured again, then let him go at Christmas, Lansbury and JET should feature and if they don’t show something by Christmas then let them go as well, Simpson and Randall won’t ever feature so sell them, it’s only fair, then we should take a good look at the Barazites of this world and make some tough decisions.

We are not in the business of collecting players, it’s costly and means, we need a clear out, then we need to buy.

Sort of like an end of term school report, fitting really as they are all kids.

Next year we need to be fighting on 4 fronts, that or the management of Arsenal football club will have to admit they have been jerking the fans around and fall on their swords.

Finally I read that Nina couldn’t get Usmanov or Kroenke to buy her shares, so she turned to an Eastern European who’s wealth is somewhere between the other two’s, interesting, why on earth would the Russian or the Yank, not buy her shares? If they want to own Arsenal, they’ll have to buy them eventually, and frankly, when you have what they have, buying at £8,500 a share of £10,500 a share makes no difference whatsoever.

Usmanov could own Arsenal at a stroke and Kroenke would have wasted 4 years, strange isn’t it??? For the record the only person I want running Arsenal is David Dein, and he isn’t in with either of them.

That’s about it for today Grovers, enjoy the sunshine whilst it lasts!

One day Arsenal will sign Huntelaar, he is exactly what Arsenal want and his circumstanses are similar to Bergkamp / Henry as in not happy on the continent. Throw Benzema/ Yaya Toure into that as well.
This is what Wenger does, so why is he reluctant to do now. It will cost a bit more that Viera or even Henry but thats inflation. Look at Bayern Munich with Robben and Inter with Schinder sometimes its the club or the lack of pressure that brings the best out.

  2. Pedro

NiXKiX, if we had an auto-refresh, we’d be a chatroom… then we’d all be nerds.

I wouldn’t want to put that on you guys…

    Martin Hayes Never Missed..

How about doing a search for text, “Leave a reply”

That should bring you right down to the last comment.

  4. chippy

    Nix,
Yes i did think hed be able to manage alot more game time next season hes older than Cesc when he became a starter and has a more rugid game than what Fabregas had at the time,I think Wenger was starting to have that sort of faith in him as well as he was getting more and more games and in that particular one at Stoke before the Injury he turned the game in my view with a crunching challenge or 2 and the rest of the side took a lead from that,

Its all If buts and Maybes now tho :-(

    Martin,
Nope its not you mate the Iphone great apart from the amount of scrolling you need to do !!

  5. KM

It would be amazing if we can get Joe Hart…he has been sensational for the last 2seasons. However dnt think City will sell to us – but do their rich owners really care? Maybe we’l find a good keeper in the WC?!? I’d like us to get shot of Fabianksi this summer because his hands are like jelly (provided we get a top stopper)that . Send Chesny on loan to a championship club nxt season. Keep Alumnia as no.2 and then nxt summer sell either of Mannone/Alumnia and then send Chesney on loan to a EPL club.

  6. Franchise

NiXKiX u wouldnt want that if u browsing from phone (probably wont work on a phone browser) or if you are reading the comments

  7. Arsenal Tom

KM… if we offered 10m we’d get their ear then someone can mention to mr hart he’d playing for one of the biggest clubs in the country and we want him to come in as our number one for the next 10-15 years!

he’d soon be on his way

  8. KM

However i like the rule that all clubs have to submit their accounts. However what action will they take over the likes of ManU/L’pool and their crazy debts?

  9. Queen of Suburbia

I think it’ll make a difference KM if nothing else because those clubs that don’t currently conform will be forced to alter their structure.

I think it might impact Chelsea? But haven’t had a proper look at other squads…it shouldn’t hurt us too much, we already comply.

In principle its in place to encourage teams to develop their own talent. I suppose it’s stop Man City buying up all the best players!

  10. KM

    Atom

I wish it was that simple. However its a 50-50 my friend…..what if Hart is recalled to ManCity and told he can be numero uno?? Anything is possible

  11. zeus

Is Joe Hart really that good? I’m thuinking of his age as well. We badly need wise old heads in this team.

  12. NiXKiX

Pedro u get over 500 comments every day… won’t it be better if it were a chat? Dude of course i’m Lazy :) but i dont get paid 50k per week so that entitles me to a lot of laziness..

  13. Arsenal Tom

a salary cap would have to be across europe as well or the prem would soon turn into a waste land.

either that or the limit would have to be so high it wouldn’t make much difference

  14. KM

What I would love is the FA to encourage the premier league clubs to embrace and appreciate the technical side of football. However i dnt know how the hell that is going to happen but if u watch England play…they have v.few players who are comfortable with the ball at their feet and in tight spaces. The FA need to find a solution to this imo. Milner is a player who imo is good at that, from the new generation.

  15. Arsenal Tom

zeus, we also need ability though, hart has allot of that. plus he’s already better, more confident and more of a leader than almunia could ever dream of being

  16. KM

    Atom

lol – awesome idea ;) love it!

    QOS

i agree that we need a salary club to avoid clubs going into meltdown however it has be enforced globally or like ATOM says everyone would be heading for Spain or Qatar ;)

  17. Pedro

Nik, I’m not really sure it would benefit the site too much… I don’t like Arseblogs system… or Gunnerblogs.

    I don’t mind a bit of F5ing!

On an iphone it’s a pain in the arse… but I think it’s works well on a PC

  18. NiXKiX

Damn you guys… Am i the only lazy arse on this site???? And don’t know bout the other sites… but i’m not sure they handle the same volume of comments ..

  19. JJ

It’s a big assumption to think that we will have a fully fit team at the start of next season when many of our players are involved in the World Cup. At the very least there will be some tiredness to deal with…

  20. Stu

Please please dont change the refreshing system. The arseblog one is shit.

What the fuck is happeneing with City. Just heard they have apparently been given permission to sign an emergency keeper because Given, Taylor and Hart arent available. What about Neilsen…surely thats the equivilant of us having to play Mannone.

  21. Queen of Suburbia

I quite like the MLB version of a salary cap. Essentailly you can spend over the limit on salaries but you have to contribute the excess again into a pot that is shared amoungst the other teams…

So for example if the cap is £1 and the Yankees spend £1.50 than they have to spend an extra £50p on top of that into the pot.

Sort of like a luxury tax.

  22. Martin Hayes Never Missed

What’s a celery cap? Sounds like some of that finger food pedro n geoff rush off for at half time up at club level!

  23. BillikenGooner

The Football Manager in me says:

Chamakh -since he’s free and seems to already be on the books
Toulalan -he’ll probably be a Lyon lifer, though
Metzelder -I believe free (?), has the size to partner Verm and maybe is another Real Madrid cast-off that will shine. Plus, didn’t Wenger make a joke about picking up Real Madrid scraps?
Joe Hart – Young, English, so will use up whatever it didn’t cost to pry Toulalan away from Lyon.

Maybe we can fatten the transfer kitty with sales of Eduardo, the goalies, and some of our surplus ‘youth’.

  24. zeus

    Choy

Which is understandable really. The problem with the cap however is barring a few top class Englishmen, the vast majority of players in that country is crap or average.

  25. lauren

Henry14, I too read that article that mentioned that, while most managers concentrate on improving players’ weaknesses, AW concentrates mainly on making players’ strengths even better. I can actually see arguments for both approaches. If a player has a great left foot, it’s a good idea to make it world class, beyond great. I just wish AW would arrive at a happy medium between both approaches.

Re AW’s in the transfer market this summer: the market is always tricky in a world cup summer, for everyone, esp. the big clubs. Many clubs will wait until AFTER the world cup to sell any of their players who are in the wc. They wait until after the tournament to see if the player did well there so they can raise their price. Of course it also risks hurting the price as the player might return from the tournament injured.

Whatever the case, if AW has targeted any players in the wc, it might be very difficult to get them before the tournament. Obviously this doesn’t apply to players not going to S. Africa.

I’ll be interested to watch the transfer market in general before and after the wc to see just how active it is.

Re this new 25-player squad rule: it falsely assumes a level playing field between clubs.

Clubs in the CL and the Europa cup (whose players also happen to be more likely to be in int’l competitions than lower table clubs) have far more games to play than clubs below the top 8. Given the level of injury in this league, a squad with such limitations gives a manager little room, as AW says.

  26. Stu

Is he undisputed first choice though NiX? Neuer is pushing too and before he offed himself Enke was starting most of Germanys games.

Plus Adler is a united fan. I would welcome him though..

  27. lauren

QoS, I’ve always thought Europe should adopt the US’ salary cap. The darwinian system in Europe is hurting the game. I also share your doubt about City selling us Hart or any of their players – not unless it’s for a ridiculous price that may be way beyond the player’s worth. I can only see paying big money for Hart and Tevez.

Also, I have to echo whoever said we can’t expect a fully fit squad in August. The wc is going to be a major factor for us, it always is. AW’s teams do not historically do well after a major summer tournament – not in Monaco either. Altho we did win the 2003 FA cup after the 2002 wc.

  28. Queen of Suburbia

Re: the 25 rule Lauren, I think Wenger is being unneccesarily pessamistic to be honest. He can supplement the 25 with under 21 players.

He just needs to ensure that those under 21 are good enough to step in if required.

  29. choy

I would like a keeper from the PL tbh..

We never know what we’re going to get from a keeper from a foreign league.

QOS.. its time the third richest club in the world had world class players!

  30. mike__

that is a good write up on watt pedro nice to see.
could he be a player no one was looking at to really make it at arsenal…..but does?
i got a feeling that although slower than theo his final ball would be a lot better than his and not always behind everyone.

bartley seems to be quietly going about his job at sheff utd and gaining experience. i wouldnt mind seeing him take JD place in the squad if he cant prove his fitness.

  31. Stu

Problem with that Choy, is that this league doesnt have any world class keepers. IMO Reina is the best in the league but only by default.

  32. Queen of Suburbia

We’ve rarely ever bought world class established players choy.

AA is an exception i’d suggest.

I thought the Stadium was about being able to do just that, but then the script got changed and nobody talks about that anymore.

Perhaps we’ve got to pay for it first!

  33. lauren

QoS, ah, but there’s the problem, isn’t it? He’s always going on about what a great bunch of kids he has but he regularly plays his first team players into the ground so that by the end of the season they’re exhausted and injured. So many times, in the last 10 mins or so of games, he could take off Cesc, e.g., and rest him. But he won’t do it. He has less faith in his young squad players than he claims to. It’s very frustrating. He did the same thing with Henry, overplaying him when he clearly needed to be rested – and missing opportunities when he could be rested.

  34. goonerT1m

QOS thats a silly idea, paying for the stadium!?, who the fuck would want to it that way!, oh yeah i know who!..if we know we are paying it off, WTF doesnt he sort the team out as well, i’m sure he could do both the stubborn hypocrite.

  35. Pedro

QoS, we’ve usually bought players on the verge of greatness.

    Vermaelen, Pires, Paddy, Thierry, Freddie.

We need to do some of that this summer.

Joe Hart would be a great start.

The only club in the Prem looking for a new keeper would be us… £20mill would be value for money.

He’s tried and tested and would be great for us.

If we can get him, we should.

  36. Queen of Suburbia

I’d be happy with that Pedro – don’t need to get Kaka, ROnaldo et al, but i’d love some at the Freddie, Pires level.

You’d pay £20m for Hart? Roughly half our transfer budget?

  37. mike__

birmingham will be looking for a new keeper too pedro…..god forbid we are in a situation where we a re looking at the same keepers as them.

what happened to the young wolves keeper Hennessey? everyone was talking about him when they were winning the championship last year. now he doesnt even get a game because the ex reading keeper Hahnemann is deemed better.

  38. leon

from what i read on arsenal website it seams as if that that budget will be increased largly i dont beleive wenger is fool he knows to just finish in top 4 is going to be evon harder next season with totnham and man city around now plus liverpool.there is no dought that both manu and chelsea are a class above everyone because they have invested heavily there squads and if this team going reach that level they have to the same 1-2 players wont do it

  39. Stu

Randall would have come on against Wigan…overhit a 50 yard pass with everyone within 20 yards of him and lunged into someone and gotten himself a straight red card. He is a twat and should have been released ages ago.

  40. Marko

Wouldn’t mind Dein coming back at all. Wouldn’t mind Joe Hart and Milner coming to Arsenal either but I’d prefer Lloris and Hazard. Wouldn’t mind a sandwich either right now

  41. Pedro

QoS, I don’t think he’ll cost that much to be honest. He’s a good keeper, but we’re not talking about England’s number one here and we’re not talking about a player with Champions League experience.

I reckon we could get him for £12mill…

Would I spend half our budget on a keeper? Well… he’d be worth at least 12 points based on this season… so yes, I don’t think we’d get more value out of any other position. I think a big spend on a solid keeper gets you value as well… what, 16 years out of a 22 year old keeper? Not bad going!

My worry is he’ll go with Chesney.

  42. Pedro

Stu, you’ve got to stop this hatred of Randall, it’s not healthy!

He’s a good passer of the ball and he’s got fire in his belly. He’s a cross breed of Ray Parlour and Flamini.

  43. NiXKiX

QoS don’t blame Diaby!!!! No one else was… Y should he…???? Somehow though i was reminded of a piece from the movie “Goal” while watchin the match..
The coach tells the kid that the ball can travel faster than the player with a pass… Marmites need to watch the movie.. Wenger is clearly not doin his job….

oh.. and i mean pass forward… not sideways…

  44. Stu

I care not Pedro…I fucking hate Randall. I hate everything about him and im sure if i knew him, i’d hate him even more.

He might be a good passer for all i know but i watched him once for the reserves…he overplayed most passes when there was noone within 30 yards of where he was passing to and regularly gets sent off for ludacris “tackles”.

  45. zeus

If we are gonna pay 20m for a keeper might as well get 1 that has CL experience in my opinion. Personally I hope we finally get Frey.

20m on Hart is exactly the kind of thing Wenger hates. Overpriced players moving from 1 PL club to another. I bet we won’t get him.

  46. Stu

But things change…maybe he will stop being a prick with a punchworthy face and i will someday be happy to see him playing for arsenal. I doubt it though.

  47. Marko

Jay Thomas is doing well on loan ain’t he? It seems every week he’s scoring a goal. I think he’ll make it here but Randall hasn’t a ghost of a chance and I don’t think Lansbury will either

  48. choy

If we get at least 5 m for both fabianski and almunia.. 15m for hart is pretty ok..

We play more for english players.. but we need some of them in our squad.

  49. goonerT1m

my guess is he will bring in an older keeper on the cheap & give fab and chesny the cups, then they (chesny)will come on and replace, AL will go, no way he will spend it on a GK, he will go for big name signing on the wing or striker but not blowing all his cash on a GK!…no idea what he will do with the defence, he probably thinks he can cope with sol for another season unless a bargain comes up!

  50. Marko

Fuck that Hart isn’t worth 20 million, Sure you could probably get Lloris, Frey or even Akinfeev for 10-18 million. Hart’s only worth about 10 million and City would accept it cause he’s not gonna take Given out of that team. Besides he’s had a great season but it’s only one he’s had.

  51. choy

We have to spend big on the defense this summer.

A proper DM and a CB are very important.

and a GK should be the first signing.

  52. Slickbanggoal

    Yes, I’m back :D

I was on Ssn this afternoon and i saw that milner won PFA young player of the year(WTF), no dissrespect to milner, he has been fantastic this season, but seriously, didn’t they see Fab4′s name on ther?!!!!!!!!

  53. zeus

    Marko

I think this Hart has a lot to do with him being English, which is understandable. Englishmen will want Englishmen in their team.

If Hart was a foreigner we would be hearing moans about him only having 1 good season and being inexperienced. Same with Rodwell.

  54. Stu

Arsenal players arent allowed to win awards Slickbanggoal.

And of course it looks better for the FA if englishmen win the awards.

  55. Marko

Well I like the look of Rodwell but seriously Hart because he’s english and has a good season his value is gonna go from what about 5-7 million a year ago to above 15 million. It’s ridiculous let’s not take the chance next season and go for Frey or Rene Adler or Romero of AZ or even Robert Green if we can’t afford Lloris.

  56. zeus

    Marko

Hold that thought. Hell fucking no on Romero. It pains me that this player is the best Argentina can come up with to take to the WC. I would rather Maradona go back for Abandonzieri than play him.

Cesc scored such an easy goal against him at the Emirates, the first one, not the classy 2nd.

Adler I’ve only seen play once where blood ran to his head and Higuain scored in an international friendly a couple months back. Not really sure about him.

    Frey all the way.

  57. Stu

Adler was also the keeper who let someone poke the ball through his legs and score when England beat Germany 2-1. But he is usually very consisteny and reliable in the league. It must just be that he is shite internationally.

  58. Marko

Cedric Carresso is also very good. And if we’re saying Romero is shit then alright but you’ve gotta add Akinfeev to that then cause they way people talk about him is scary cause when I’ve seen him play for CSKA I’ve thought him very average.

  59. Marko

I dunno Choy how about Xerez or Tenerife? Some Spanish team will take him cause they won’t know better. Even Cesar Sanchez who couldn’t get a game at the spuds is first choice at Valencia.

  60. leon

i highly suspect what ever signings wenger makes he will want to it before the world cup,i have no dought will loan out couquin barazite eastmond murphy ect and bring 1-2 midfielders i hope,1-2 cb at least and i hope god he gets a keeper.we only hope arseanl loosen up the pear strings

  61. lauren

    Good question from gunnerblog today:

“ps. if City can get an emergency goalie on the grounds that the ones they’re left with aren’t very good, then why the hell did we not pursue that avenue?”

Because AW doesn’t want to kill his sensitive little geniuses.

  62. Marko

I think the centre backs are a must for signings. Letting go of Senderos, Silvestre and possibly Gallas and Campbell (keep him though) and bring in an injection of youth and speed in there ala the Vermaelen signing would be great, bringing in one or 2 of Sahko, Zapata, Tasci, Subotic or Kjaar. BUT I think just has important is another midfield signing preferably a defensive one cause lets be honest the only ball winning midfielder we have is song and sometimes playing the 4-1-4-1 formation leaves us being caught on the counter attack, bring in a Toulalan or a Mamadou Diarra and stick to a 4-2-3-1 or 4-2-1-3 and we’re sorted.

  63. zeus

    Choy

Ryan fucking Giggs won it last year if you can believe that. He didn’t even feature for a 1/3 of the season if memory serves me correctly.

  64. leon

i feel its more likely wenger will loan out mannone will be put out on loan out and almunia and fab will be pushed down 2-3 keepers almunia signes new contract the is sold next year dont make sense he not going anywere which i am glas because is good 2nd keeper

  65. Marko

Totally Choy especially when you consider we’re one of the most attack minded teams in world football I mean even Vermaelen busts a gut to get forward sometimes and I don’t mean at corners. My ideal signing would be Toulalan or Inler with Song sitting in front of the back four, both possess the ability to pick a pass and the ability to shoot from distance.

  66. Marko

Gooner Tim Diaby aint a DM and denilson’s a squad player. While I think Diaby’s had a great second half to the season I think he lacks the descipline to be a defensive midfielder.

  67. Marko

    New Keeper
    Sagna Sahko Vermaelen Clichy
    ….Song…..Toulalan/Inler….
    ……..Fabregas……..
    ………Arshavin……
    Chamakh…..Van Persie
    Or
    New Keeper
    Sagna Sahko Vermaelen Clichy
    …..Song….Toulalan/Inler….
    ………Fabregas…….
    Hazard…Chamakh…Van Persie

  68. zeus

“I always defend referees, but there are missed calls and then there are missed calls. The error the assistant made in the first leg was impossible not to see.” So said Cruyff

I’m sure the 5 penalty decisions that Chelsea didn’t get last year was ‘impossible not to see’ too.

  69. zeus

    Marko

Sakho is 21, TV5 23. I think its clear that TV5 needs a wiser older head beside him. He is still learning the game.

  70. Marko

I suppose Zeus but I was thinking more along the lines of tough strong tall and with pace which is a must if we sign a defender what with the Premier League being tough and fast and we defend a high line and other teams try to kick us of the field too. Thats what I was thinking more than what age the player is and thats why I thought of Sahko, Subotic, Kjaar and Zapata. I can’t even think of a top defender aged between 25-30 who is available.

  71. Stu

Not to forget that Sakho is left footed and two lefties should play together. I heard Sakho has been playing pretty shit this season too.

We need a leader at the back, not another youngster.

  72. B.B.K.

all these young players can fuck off they are doing fuck all for us apart from making us a laughing stock because we are winning fuck all every year.

  73. ethangunner

and there’s this little thing called the world cup which will crock half of our players and prevent the other half from leaving :)

  74. Marko

I was pretty sure he was just as good on his right as on his left. I wouldn’t read too much into him having a bad season cause so has everyone at PSG, same with Udinese and Borussia Dortmund really and yet we’d love it if we signed Zapata or Inler or Subotic or Kejo Asamoah from them.

  75. Marko

Stu my main man who’d you like to sign? And they’d have to be realistic we’d all love Messi but he’s not possible

  76. Stu

Lloris (i think its realistic with the right offer..we can afford it.)
    Metzelder (free)
    Van Der Wiel (10m)
    Van Bommel (free)
    Chamakh (free)

30m spent on 5 players and buy another defender or a winger. Not set on Metzelder, really just chose him because i dont know of any good defenders that we would realistically be after.

  77. B.B.K.

id love to have pires, seaman, henry, bergkamp, vieira, gilberto all signed up in the summer because the cunts we got now ain’t got a scooby.

  78. Stu

The defenders i would really like for us to sign would be Alex or Pepe. But we probably wouldnt be able to get either because of who they play for.

There arent many, if any, top class defenders available atm. And anyway, anyone we do buy would still have to deal with the lack of emphasis put on defending at the club. We can either spend 20m on a top class defender or buy a decent, fairly priced defender and sort the defence out in terms of organisation and such.

  79. Marko

I like it Stu and I like your thinking but I’m pretty sure Van Bommel signed for another year at Bayern and he’s probably in the last 2 or 3 years of his career. But cheese and crackers no to Metzelder he’d do really bad in the Premiership he’s got no pace. I’m gonna take away Zapata and Inler from my list cause players from the Italian league don’t do well when they come to england, better off looking to Germany and France and Spain.

  80. Stu

Yeah Serie A and the prem are like polar opposites. France and Germany are our best bets imo because they are as close to the prem as any other leagues in terms of competetiveness and physicality imo.

Above all, Arsene Wenger wants to keep his job and have a pleasant daily life.

Arsene wants what is easiest for Arsene. He doesn’t want any player who will talk back to him. He wants to put on training sessions that he enjoys and that the players enjoy, so he will never drill a defence. They will never be taught how to defend set-pieces. At Grampus Eight in Japan, Yugoslav playmaker Dragan Stojkovic said : We always worked on what we were good at, we never worked on things we were not good at. Tony Adams said : he never talks about the opposition.

With Wenger’s “youth development” policy, Arsenal will always be a team in transition. Every season will be a transitional season, like the last five. They will always travel but never arrive.

    how very fucking true

The thing is though Stu looking back on this season you could argue that all that was missing was a striker for when Van Persie and then Bendtner and Eduardo got injured (thats Chamakh) and in my opinion was another ball winning defensive midfielder cause alot of us here would admit that Gallas and Vermaelen together was a very good partnership and I think that if you had another defensive midfielder covering with Song, when Clichy and Sagna bomb forward you’d have Gallas and Vermaelen and Song and another ball winner covering thats 4 and that’d be enough in my opinion.

I think with the 8 Home grown in your squad of 25 rule, we need to be more thoughtful as to whose in & whose out. It really becomes a balancing act. Sure we have lots of kids that qualify but Wenger will want to use those as ‘freebie’ additionals to a 25 man squad. It’s not as simple as saying Clichy for Bojan, you lose a HG player, meaning you have to name an U-21 in the original squad.

i would not be suprised if wenger signs of madrids rejects at all and look at italian legue for defenders and midfielders as i do think players like barazite coquelin eastmond will put out on loan,i feel diaby has been exposed lacking the disapline and majority to dm position,it is claer despite his tender age song to be at worst an extremly solid squad player only 22 ,however i feel to be sucsessfull you need at least 3 rugid midfielders

  85. Stu

I find it hard to believe that one of the most sought after managers in the world employs the tactic of only working on things that his players are already good at.

I mean, im all for improving a players ability but surely a well rounded player is far more useful than a player who can only do one thing, even if he’s brilliant at it.

You just love the freebies don’t you. Strike Metzelder, read yesterday someone in Germany was after him. Think it was Bayern.

Met Carlos Vela near Heathrow today. Spoke to him for a few minutes and I asked him why he doesn’t play. He said he is always at the games but just doesn’t get put on. I also asked if he has an injury and he said no. For the record he speaks perfect English and seems like a really nice lad. He was on his way ‘home’, which I presume is in Hertfordshire. I don’t know what he was doing near Heathrow or where he was coming from.

  88. Marko

Let’s not make a story out of nothing here I’m sure he’d like to get more games but he’s not ready yet to be starting games.

What is with Shitty and their GK “crisis”

Their 1st choice is out.. so they need to loan another goalkeeper? WTF?

  90. zeus

What’s less obvious is the hidden culture that creates an also-ran team : a culture of not shouting at each other, a culture of no accountability, where nobody is ever dropped : He’s ill, he has a wrist injury. A culture of players who have never won anything but mouth off in the press. Bendtner : I want to be the best ! Etc etc etc. Good players do their talking on the pitch.
    ******************************

I really dislike this guy, but that statement was spot on.

  91. choy

I’d be really pissed if Vela left due to lack of games.

We’ve persisted with the likes of song, eboue at RW, denilson, theo.

Vela needs games. He is a top top talent and Wenger will see that at the World Cup.

Are you being for real? Should’ve asked him if he was a party boy? Wenger doesn’t like party boys.

  93. leon

the only pplayers i see leaving in the summer is gallas silvest and senderos and merida all of which are out of contract but delinson vela edwardo almunia diaby risicky have all signed new contracts

  94. Stu

How exactly is saying you want to be the best classed as mouthing off. I generally agree that players should talk to the press much but this hardly counts. He is talking purely about himself rather that Theo, Silvestre, Denilson etc talking about the team and “we” need to improve when its really them who are shit.

Surely a keeper has to go. Wenger could never take dumb and dumber into the next campaign as 1 and 2 could he? COULD HE?
