So could the unthinkable actually happen? Arsenal finish 5th.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

LG Towers yesterday

Okay so I’m back, but I’m not happy, in my absence we’ve lost three on the trot and on Saturday we play the northern chavs.

So we have 3 games left, City, Blackburn and Fulham. All tough games, well after the shocking cowardly arrogant display against a crap side like Wigan, we could very easily lose all three games. I have said all season I’m more worried about the chasing pack than those ahead of us.

Even if we won one and lost two we could still in theory finish outside the top four, that that would be something wouldn’t it? Wenger’s only target this season was to finish in the top 4 and now even that may not happen. Maybe now the sycophants he has surrounded himself with at Arsenal may start to question his judgement.

We need to beat Man City to guarantee a top 4 spot, if the spuds lose at the same time then we get third, so it’s all still a game of ifs, buts and maybe’s but wouldn’t it be tragic if Arsene didn’t get his top 4 bonus, all that stinginess and gloating about how young this team is ,would have been in vain.

This team has great mental strength he tells us, over and over and over again, well in the last three games if what I’ve seen is great mental strength then my arse is a kipper.

I read a bit from our chums at the Online Gooner yesterday and how he was almost arrested for daring to ask our great leader a question, Arsene I hope you are ashamed of yourself, I also hope you manned up and told your team of gutless, headless chickens, how they let Arsenal football club and all it’s fans down, big time. I hope you fined them a weeks wages, save Rosicky who at least tried and Theo for applauding his own fans at the end.

I had to travel over 2,000 kilometres in a Ford Focus estate to get home this week, I did it in 2 days and got flashed by about 300 speed cameras in that dustbin known as France, blimey, no wonder they are all over here, all I was thinking about, apart from the crap food in the service stations was the Spurs and the Wigan games, how paid professionals played like 8 year olds and sadly didn’t give a toss, and afterwards listening to a manager who also didn’t give a toss and still tells us he will do it in another season. Sure you will, plus another £10million in wages

Yes we’ve had injuries, but we always have injuries, being a good manager is knowing when to get shot of crocks, average players and trouble makers, being a good manager is knowing when to admit your policy is not working and being a good manager is playing your best players, and Robin Van Persie is one of our best players, he proved that after he came on at 67 minutes and almost scored a hatrick against the spuds, so why then did Wenger wait until the 89 minute to use him against Wigan, that is crap management in my book, if you weren’t going to play him Arsene, why take him? What on earth is he going to do in one minute???

Now we have to sweat about finishing fourth and the only person we have to blame is our manager, but then although I rate him as a great coach, I have never rated him as a manager, he makes the same mistakes over and over and over, enough is enough.

Arsene, it’s time to act like a football manager and not like the worlds biggest know-it-all, you’ve got it wrong for 5 consecutive seasons now, time to get it right, spend some of our money on some world class players and kick the rest out.

I, just like the bloke at the Online Gooner, renewed my seasons, but a part of me knew all I was doing when I did that, was lining the staff at my clubs pockets. Again.

So what did the hierarchy at Arsenal learn from last season? They learn that we, the paying customers are all suckers. That’s what they learned. If they had any principals, then next years season tickets should be free of charge.

When Arsenal won the double in 1971 they used 16 players, played 64 games and did it on pitches that resembled cow pastures.

Don’t believe me Arsene, ask Pat Rice, he played in 41 of them. As Pedro said it’s not his fault if he can’t bitch at the players, and you’d have to be crazy to turn down a whopping salary for saying nothing and sitting on your butt in the second best seat in the stadium, week in, week out. Fair play to you Pat, you’ve earned it!

Team Arsenal, time to grow up and man up, you can’t all be injured, when Alex Song was crap he was never injured, but now he’s a regular, he gets injured all the time. What’s that all about? Could it be once they’ve made it they take it easy? Or is it the training methods, it can’t all be coincidence.

As for the City game is concerned, I think we’ll murder them, anything other that a win will seriously threaten our standing. With a bonus at stake you may see a little urgency and fight in them.

A rumour yesterday was Robin for Buffon and Melo, not sure about Melo but I rate Buffon. I would never let Robin go but his injury record is rubbish, so Robin for Buffon plus cash could open the door for a striker that could do a season uninjured, maybe…

Me, I’d sign Joe Hart, an English keeper barking at his defence, perfect.

Frank McLintock, Charlie Nicholas, Paul Merson, Perry Groves, Patrick Vieira, Dennis Bergkamp, Cesc Fabregas, Robin Van Persie and now Andre Arshavin. What do they all have in common? They have all been employed by Arsenal, and they all say we need some world class signings.

Peter Hill-Wood, Ivan Gazidas and Arsene Wenger say we don’t. Hmmm, you choose.

Have a great day Grovers, tomorrow could be a fruitful one.

    yeah lauren, that’s what’s so sickening…
don’t know if i can take one more season of this…
my work mates and friends are giving us the stick on a regular these days, i would love the day when i can make them suffer as i have…

  2. RayGooner

the last time Tottenham had a chance as good as this time to take a Champions League spot was back in 2005/2006…
They were 1 point ahead of Arsenal with 1 game left…

Arsenal won 4-2 against Wigan at Highbury (the last game ever played there)
And Spurs lost to West Ham away with 1-2, West Ham were fighting to avoid relegation…

This year Spurs will face Burnley away in their last fixture, and, well, Burnley are fighting to avoid relegation too…need i say more…

  3. LAzer

    Welcome back Geoff you beauty!

Ya same here Reggie, and we deserve a lot better. I suppose this was what everyone sort of expected though…we will collapse in the end like a pack of cards.

I don’t admire Arshavin for saying it during the heat of battle but he sure has been vindicated for asking for more world class players.

  4. reggie 57

It will be the same next season as well? good start, bad finish, loads of injurys, humilated by the BIGGER clubs cant wait….

  5. LAzer

Arsenal is missing out on a whole host of fans across the world because they bloody don’t win anything. I am afraid Arsene Wenger is getting stale…

  6. RayGooner

is there any player out there who could be called an “unknown world class player”?

If only Wenger could find him….cause that’ll be the only “World Class player” we’ll get from Wenger these days…

  7. RayGooner

    to explain,…
Thierry Henry, Cesc Fàbregas is what i call “Unknown World Class Player” when they came to Arsenal that is..
Henry only took 1 season to being World Class, Cesc took 2-3 years cause he was only 16 when we bought him…

  8. reggie 57

Instead of touring Austria why not tour the USA and let JAY Z bring some of the boys to watch us? wear some gooner shirts in their vids any thing to get the brand reconised world wide, thats only if the Boss lets em!!!

  9. B.B.K.

”Hi, i’m a spurs fan and I genuinely think your game tomorrow will decide who comes 4th, because I dont see us getting anything at United and I also doubt City can beat both us and villa in pressure games.

So please please get behind your team and win tomorrow (scream abuse at adebayor if necessary :) , to help I’ll let you into a secret that everyone other team has been hiding from you and your manager – Fabianski is useless. This is incredibly desperate but is almunia fit?,,,,,,,,,,LAUGH OUT FUCKING LOUD.

  10. LAzer

The boss won’t get off his way too high off a horse to tour anywhere else…as long as the team is focused that is fine with me but we are only going to burden ourselves more and more every year with this no trophy pressure. Just fuckin win a cup Arsene, then we can move on without hearing that crap and the players feeling the immense heat all the time.

  11. Stu

lol rt.z, Hangeland is way better than both Onouha and Richards who are basically just athletes. We have enough of that kind already at the club. At least Hangeland is good at organising and anticipating…even if he is painfully slow.

  12. B.B.K.

man united win a trophy every year and they gallivant around the globe,we go to austria every year and win fuck all, what fucking gives i ask you.yeah reggie sad spud cunt probably on a wuming session anyway lol

  13. Stu

The only reason i can think of for going to austria every year thats benificial to the team is thats its quiet and they can get on with their training without being bothered.

But we arent winning anything so i see no problem with going somewhere else like the states or asia. At least by going somewhere else we would get more exposure and we might get more fans and thus more money for the club and more money to spend on better players.

  14. junaid

if we have a big chance of dropping down to fifth then we have the same chance of winning the rest of our games and man u n chelski loose the rest of theirs meaning we win the season. i think we will stay 3rd.

  15. B.B.K.

lol reggie it’s a good word.buffon is 32 he’s the perfect age to join us,fuck all this he’s to old business,he’s what we need.

  18. thaatarsenalguy

ps i think wenger mentione about altitude in austria, altitude can help but the amount of injuries we get it is a bit hopeless

  19. RT.Z

My Team Next Season Would Be

    Buffon
    Sagna Lucio Vermaelen Clichy
    Song Melo
    Cesc Fabregas
    Arshavin Chamakh Van Persie

  20. LAzer

spot on bbk on Buffon. That would be a game changer. If Gallas stays, we sign Sol, flog Silvestre, bring back Nordveit, develop Bartley and have JD as well the defence is sorted for me.

Then add Chamakh and I will be satisfied with our summer.

So it leaves Bac, Eboue, Sol, Gallas, TV, JD, Clichy, Gibbs, Traore, then Nordveit and Bartley and Song in emergencies. And most prbly the best goalie of the current era in Buffon at the back.

  21. Le Invicible

bbk….are you nuts?? Buffon??? To Arsenal????

    Benzema??? Van de Vaart????

No chance. Chamakh will be our top signing this year.

I really hope I’m wrong, but history is on my side

  22. Le Invicible

“I read some transfer rumours in the newspapers and they are all wrong. All of them. So you do not even need to ask me one name – they are all wrong.”

    Arsena Wenger

  23. zeus

    PTG

Wenger is going nowhere. Check arse.com, he says he sees himself and Fergie together for the next few years. Meaning together in competition.

  24. lauren

Le Invicible, that’s right. We’re going to see Diaby, Fabianski and Silvestre against Tevez, Bellamy and fired up Ade.

This is why I cannot watch the game.

Quality stuff from Myles Palmer today.

  25. zeus

You’ve all mentioned ANR, so I decided to have a read.

‘The club has an old board, an old manager and a young squad. But Arsenal need a younger board, a younger manager, and an older team.’

Got that far and I’m already impressed.

  26. Queen of suburbia

Take this for what it’s worth but kris commons is the name sources have given me. All allegedly of course!

  27. LAzer

Odds are against us for sure Choy, even at home. Half the first team missing, had some horrid weeks recently and Silvestre in defence.

But u play to win and we owe Shitty a lesson for CC exit and what happened at Shitlands earlier with the Whore.

Hope the boys are up for this one….(although they were pathetic vs. Wigan and lost the title for good, dunno how they will recover)

  28. choy

    Yep.. not really optimistic.

    Goal Keeping Crisis

Potentially the oldest Cb pairing in the league

    Makeshift midfield

    Somewhat ok strikeforce :(

I really hope we win though!

  29. patthegooner

Given that Man Ure will probably beat the spuds tomorrow

If Man Shitty beat us, our record against the other teams in the top four will be

    P 6 W 0 D 0 L 6

Any other manager at any other of those clubs would be sacked for a similar record

  30. patthegooner

thing is I went into all 6 of those games thinking we were going to win. Likewise the Barca tie, likewise Stoke in the Cup, Likewise Spuds away.

Tomorrow I think we will lose, so hopefully I will be wrong again

  31. MIKE

Birmingham away has done us again. The so called player who done Cesc has done and ‘Eduardo 2008′ and killed our season.

  32. patthegooner

    Mike,

    I agree with that.

We fucked up and rested players when we had the momentum behind us. It was a Wenger Master fuckup….again.

really am at a stage where I dont care if he is the Manager next season. His Legacy and what he has done for us in the early years will rightly go down in history and there should be a statue outside the Emirates of him.

But he is killing his legacy. every season more and more gooners lose faith in him, and if it carries on in the same veign next season, I think you will start to hear the first mutterings of Wenger Out.

  33. B.B.K.

    choy Says:

Any chance of a win tomorrow lads?if we can’t beat spuds or wigan we got no chance

  34. patthegooner

    Agh got you

However, I am in two minds there.

I sort of hope both city and the spuds lose tomorrow and Villa win. I would like to see Villa there, however unlikely.

Obviously no Gooner wants to see top four tottenham…actually finish in the top four. especially as I think their benefactor will spend big

Likewise the Mancs. if they come 4th, suddenly they can attract a better class of player and will spend a crazy amount of money on trying to win the lot next season.

  35. A

pat a manager wouldn’t be sacked for his record at in specific games, that’s ridiculous! it’s how he does overall that counts.

  36. patthegooner

And it is how we performed in all of those losses.

Loads of possesion but we are missing that extra bit of quality to make the difference.

Do you have faith that finally after 5 years, he will recognise, accept and resolve that extra bit of quality.

for me, it has been cry wolf every summer for too many years. I expect Chamakh and maybe one more in the summer, and as ever it will fall short of what is actually required despite us having the resources to do it

  37. 78692

PTG, if the spuds qualify for the CL then they will spend big in the Summer.

SHIFT IN POWER MATE,SHIFT IN POWER

    THATS WHAT IM AFRAID OF

  38. patthegooner

    Terrible end to the season

But like you say, you have to look at the final places in all competitions overall!!

We have bombed out miserably in all 4 competitions.

  39. A

don’t agree at all pat, we lacked the defensive organisation, not the quality to make a difference.

we need defenders, and maturity/confidence as a group to be able to beat the big teams

  40. B.B.K.

    zeus Says:
    April 23, 2010 at 21:55
Cmon guys, do you honestly believe we could go on a 6 game losing streak to end the season.
If being 2 nil up at wigan and not winning doesn’t indicate to you that, that could happen then you must not be looking at what’s going on.

  41. patthegooner

    Same here 78692

infact I dont think there will be such a thing as a top four going into next season.

I dont see Man Ure having a lot to spend, nor Liverpool.

I dont even see Chavski spending that much, despite a ageing squad.

I think the Spuds and Man City will top the transfer in and outs and whilst I still dont see the Spuds challenging, I do think Man City will have a crack at the title next season.

The battle for 3/4th place will be tough

  42. A

wouldn’t say bombed out pat, we came up against the best team in the world in the champs league, and we were in a very good in the league until this capitulation over the last couple of games.

  43. zeus

    ptg

Spot on. Two players max. Chamakh and Defender for Gallas to partner. It would surprise me at all if he kept Fishface nor would it surprise me if he decided to sign Senderos on a new longterm contract without giving much thought to a keeper.

  44. A

yeah i agree pat, especially if city get top four, they could be up there next season. Spurs are a fair way away still though

  45. patthegooner

And no doubt Wenger will say the same thing at the end of the season A

He always seems to recognise correctly where it went wrong and promises to do something about it, yet then fails to deliver it.

Like I say, even Fergie would not have been given this much time to deliver and look what he has won for his club.

Wenger needs to be set targets, and if he fails to meet those targets, then he should fall on his own sword

Arsenal is a club that breeds complacency from the manager downwards.

  46. A

lol zeus, as if that would happen.

real pity sendy left, would’ve been very useful to have in the situation we’ve been in. I reckon he’d be good foil potentially for vermy too, and he’s a very good organiser. would’ve gotten more games with us too!

  47. zeus

    bbk

That has never happened under Wenger. And I’d be very shocked if that happened now. Song is back to shield the back 4 unless wenger decides to play him in midfield.

  48. A

pat of course Fergie would’ve been given that much time in the same situation, and of course wenger has targets, and they aren’t being met on the pitch at the moment, but the team aren’t far enough away from the targets to result in a sacking

  49. patthegooner

manner of that defeat still bugs me A

Yeah they are the best team in the world, but we played them like we knew we were going out.

It was like we were trying to win the best supporting actress rather that the big prize.

Look at Mourinho (and I dont like him). Inter are not that great yet they treated the game and were prepared for game expecting to win it. They got it tactically spot on, and whilst I still think Barca will go through, at least Inter have given themselves a chance in the 2nd leg.

  50. A

Inter are great at not being beaten pat, especially at home, and have the players to do to barca what they did, and even then they were lucky with offside goal, ridiculously blatant penalty etc.

we gave ourselves a chance in the second leg by mounting a great comeback, as well as doing well early on in the second leg, before messi ripped us to shreds….

  51. patthegooner

A, I just feel we are permanently just out of reach of being good enough, despite having the resources to be good enough.

Sure signings dont guarantee silverware, but the odds are surely better than not signing them in the 1st place.

Again I honestly dont believe Ferguson would still be in charge at Man Utd if they went the same time without silverware and went down like a cowering puppy dog everytime they met decent opposition.

  52. patthegooner

    Stu

    Nope

    A

So are you admitting there, that we dont have the players able to beat Barca? and that Inter do?

if so, whose fault is that?

  53. patthegooner

    And A

ok Say Wenger stays (which is what will happen anyway)

how many more seasons would you tolerate without silverware? or at least a place in a Final?

  54. Stu

Ridiculously blatant penalty A? I assume you’re referring to the Alves dive which couldnt have been any less of a foul. Alves saw a leg and just collapsed and worse, he feigned injury trying to convince the ref he had been raped when there wasnt even the smallest bit of contact.

  55. A

if they went the same time without silverware, but whilst spending lots of money then no he may not be in charge, but if he’d had the same resources as wenger he absolutely would be, and the press would still be kissing his arse!

  56. Stu

Deadly serious A. From how i remember it Sneijder went to ground but made no contact. And if there was contact that i somehow missed it certainly wasnt enough to make Alves fall the way he did, if even at all.

  57. reggie 57

If we was told there was no money for signings 90% of the fans would be grateful of where we have finished for the last 5 years….

  58. leon

path i think you will find that although inter are not as good as passing and moving they have alot rugid midfielders the real old school defenders infact the old arsenal with gearge graham were not that different from inter

    bbk

There’s always a first for everything, and the way things are going it seems even more so likely that it could happen.

  60. A

pat imo it was a failure not to win the league this season.

Not sure what you mean by a final, unless it was the champs league final then it’s worthless imo.

we need to win the league next season basically

  61. Stu

Still dont think it was a penalty. Didnt see the small bit of contact by Sneijders thigh on Alves leg as he was falling. I apolgise, there was contact but certainly not enough for the fall.

  62. Le Invicible

Man, i saw this scenario in january. gallas was due an injury. Thing is, a.w should have. anyway, fishface is easily our worst ever signing by a country mile. 90% of grovers, me included, wanted song and eboue BANISHED. Den and Diaby didnt get half as much abuse. If only they had improved and performed as well as Song and Eboue. Dare i say it, but we would have gained a lot more points, I feel, if the heart of our midfield was better. Cesc aside, centrally, we are in trouble. Even with his improvements, Song still has a long way to go before he can be considered a big player for us. Such is the lack of quality in the middle, this season he has been, at times, massive for us.

Den and Diaby have been shockingly bad in a lot of games. And they have both had a lot more game time than Rambo, who I believe is the future of our midefield, and will be an immense player. There few moments of brilliance have gone no way in restoring any faith in them, as consistency is their major weakness. Not too mention the shame of looking like a bunch of complete pussies in certain games…others included come to think of it

The fact is that we have, in midfield and up front, some fantastic talent and bags of potential. The only flaw is that potential outweighs the established talent. IMO bringing PV4 in at the same time as Sol would have been a master stroke. A.w would, i believe would have brought out the very best in PV4, if only for 6 months. That way, players like AA23, TR7 and N8 would be much more focussed on attack, thus giving the strikers more options.

And how the FUCK did he think that NikB is good enought to head up our attack???? YOU FUCKING KNEW RVP WAS OUT ARSENE!!! NIK B MAY BE GOOD ENOUGH IN A YEAR OR 2, BUT NOT YET – NOT BY A LONG STRETCH.

Fucking a.w!!!!! Could you not see Gallas getting injured, or JD for that matter a2nd thinking “FUCK!!! I only have fishface as back up!!!”…..

That and a few other fucked up decisions this year.

    Buy 2 new GKs

    Keep Gallas.

    Buy a WC CB.

Buy a WC CM – fucking get De Rossi!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Buy 1 more WC striker.

Keep everyone but Almunia, Fabianski and FISHFACE

Keep Song, Diaby, Den and Nik B and Diaby but give them next season to step up or ship them out.

With quality additions to the squad, chances are they will raise the game of the others. Fuck it, its a FACT.

And start playing Vela FFS, the boy is class. Bring back jack wilshere too!

Sort it Weneger or, take your hat and leave.

3-1 to the Gunners tomorrow! :lolL

  63. Stu

I think Bendtner is good enough. He’s no Van Persie or Torres or Rooney but he has more than proved he is valuable to the team and is pretty influential sometimes too.

  64. MIKE

We are Arsenal supporters ! Have been for X years. Reality is we must be persecuted for the rest of our lives!

  65. Le Invicible

Alex Song returned to training on Friday and should be OK after recovering from an inflamed cartilage in his knee. Meanwhile Eduardo is fit after suffering a broken toe. Andrey Arshavin (calf) and Denilson (groin) are still out while Lukasz Fabianski should once again deputise for Manuel Almunia (wrist) in goal.

a snippet from the team news for tomorrow. other than AA23, not any other player to get excited about really is there? Hopefully, we dont have the smae team news for next year. Not that unlikely though is it????

  66. Stu

If only we had an organised defence eh choy…they the shortcomings of certain defenders wouldnt be so damageing(sp).

  67. Confidentgoer

    A,

You know about Karma? Am sure you watched Barca-Chelsea semiin London,so allits good.

I think JOeM will be more careful in Barcelona as the homeeffect can surely influence refrees.

  68. Le Invicible

Stu, i agree he is valuable to the squad, but he should be our 3rd choice striker, AT BEST at the moment. I believe he could still turn out to be a big player for AFC, but he’s not at that level yet.

  69. MIKE

Fellas the reality is we were so close ! proper goalgeeper and cesc not playing against birmingham. Ahh We can but dream!

  70. Martin Hayes Never Missed

Someone posted this on another site, expect more of the same this summer:

‘I personally feel that we have about nine or ten players who are really close to the first team and to able to say that is fantastic’.

‘I am talking about the players who are aged between 18yrs and 21yrs. For example we have, David Bentley, Jeremie Aliadiere, Ryan Garry, Jerome Thomas, Sebastian Svard, Moritz Volz, Jermaine Pennant, Graham Stack, Kolo Toure and others too, there is also a young Swiss defender Philippe Senderos who will be joining us in the summer’.

‘When you look at that list there are ten or so players who are the top level, that is great for the future of our club and is a guarantee for us. The condition of our young players look tremendous.’

    Arsene Wenger 2003

  71. Le Invicible

If Dean was still around, we’d be signing Buffon, Villa, DaSilva, Lucio, De Rossi and re-signing TH14 too ;-)

  72. Le Invicible

As for Robin Van Persie, the manager said: “He is ready to start but I don’t know yet whether I will start him or not.”

    great news

  73. Confidentgoner

I noticed I got my username wrong from a previous, from a new laptop. Still the same person Geoff/pedro, no need to keep me in moderation.

It may ultimately be best for us to go 5th. That could send a message and we get a reaction from the board by
    a) Sacking Wenger
    b) Getting a new manager to supervise overhauling of the squad and to bring new stronger talets @ 6-7

  74. Le Invicible

The prospect of City snaring his skipper was put to Wenger at his pre-match press conference and, predictably, the Frenchman gave it short shrift.

Indeed, Wenger pointed out that only three Arsenal players are technically available at the moment – the ones who have yet to agree a new deal at Emirates Stadium.

“That is their [City's] problem,” said Wenger.

“It’s simple. If they want to buy a player from Arsenal Football Club, apart from Mikael Silvestre, William Gallas and Sol Campbell, [they cannot because] the players are all under contract.

“If they want to play with my players, they have to call me.”

  75. Le Invicible

However, he said that he believed it best not to re-sign his former captain – because expectations may have been too high.

“It was a real tough call because I have a special relation with Patrick,” said the manager.

“He came here the same time, we were successful together. I respect his fighting attitude. I could go always with Patrick to Sheffield, to Bolton, and he would be ready to die.

“Somewhere as well you feel responsible not to make a mistake when a player has been so big for the Club. It is never the same. People will be more demanding, less forgiving. Maybe I thought it was a better decision.”

  76. Martin Hayes Never Missed

    Classic AW quotes. .

    I’ll leave you with these:

    37) “We were considering him [Ruud van Nistelrooy] and Francis Jeffers and, in the end, we went for Jeffers.”

    47) “At some clubs success is accidental. At Arsenal it is compulsory.”

    51) “We do not buy superstars. We make them.”

    56) “We try to go a different way that, for me, is respectable. Briefly, these are the basics. I thought: “We are building a stadium, so I will get young players in early so I do not find myself exposed on the transfer market without the money to compete with the others. I build a team, and we compensate by creating a style of play, by creating a culture at the club because the boy comes in at 16 or 17 and when they go out they have a supplement of soul, of love for the club, because they have been educated together. The people you meet at college from 16 to 20, often those are the relationships in life that keep going. That, I think, will give us strength that other clubs will not have.”

    Le Invicible,

I consider Song one of the best midfield tacklers in the EPL. He is much better than Mikel and only comes second to Essien and that’s because Essien has a much better shot in him. Essien is not a better tackler or passer of the ball.

I wonder if you noticed how solid we are with him playing? Look at the 3 games we lost, for a clue. Not saying he was the only reason but if he had played we would not have lost to barca by such a margin.

  78. MIKE

This summer wenger will bring in at least 5 Big players. I think he knows that Shity will be up there.
Positions required are right down the spine

Goalkeeper Chesney one of our own!
    Central defence Boaeteng 10m
    Middle Melo 10m
    Up top Chamakh nice one!
And finally ! the big one Hazard

  79. Confidentgoner

    Mike,

Don’t hang your hopes too high with this French miser. Watch this space by August. He would sign 2/3 depending on who leaves in CB

  80. Stu

Heard Adler is on a free this summer…cant remember where though but if its true we could do this and spend hardly anything.

    Adler
    Van Bommel
Chamakh……all free but would command higher wages.
Metzelder is on a free too but probably too injury prone and old.

Add 2 CBs for about 20m and we could have a fantastic team.

  81. Confidentgoner

    Le,

Sure Song needs competition, poerhaps someone who will share the job, or alternate. play both only in very tough games.

The fact that we have Cesc in mid, is already a source of weakness defensively, since Cesc is not that strong ad is not pacy. Add that to a slow Song and you see why we are not counter-attacking or strong in defense.

  82. Confidentgoner

But again,Guardiola makes his players work hard for the team,if we had a guy like that who will make us defend from the front we will do ok. Curiosly, we were doing that from the get go during the qualifiers, but stopped as the league wore on.

  83. MIKE

Wenger will pull us trough! we must continue to believe.
Pain for a few years will pay dividends. We are now the third biggest club in the world. Patience is key it will happen! One more year!

Just read a Bendtner interview and he says he asked Eduardo if he could wear no.9 this season. Eddie said no and Bendtner picked 52 instead.

I wonder if Eduardo leaves this summer will Bendtner ask for 9 again and have to reimburse that fan for the price of the shirt?

  85. Confidentgoner

    Stu,

I wish someone can tell me what happened to Eddie? He was smoking at the begining of the season and fizzled out with niggling injuries here and there. Think he will be a better player for an Italian or Spanish club, and we could get 10-15 mill quid for him. Add our “45m” available transfer budget, Rosicky(5m) , Silvestre (0), Dennilson (5m), Traore (3m) and we could have the funds to buy better replacements.

  86. Stu

I wish i knew too Confident As you say he started the season well. Looked sharp and got a few goals but it seems the constant injuries have taken their toll and ruined him (in this league at least).

When he came on as a sub a month or two ago he looked like he couldnt even run, like his shoes were made of stone. And even in front of goal he has lost all his calmness and just fluffs his chances wide. But it could be as simple as scoring 1 goal would open up the flood gates and we would see the Eddie of old back.

Unfortunately, chances are that if he doesnt make a good impression on Wenger between now and the end of the season then it looks like he will be out the door if an offer comes in.

  87. leon

i just think if this team can just get some real disaplined rugid midfielders and few more old fashoined cb muchlike sole and verm it would help there cause no end

Eduardo cannot accelerate past defenders nor is he a physical specimen.

He needs to play in a 4-4-2.

We have too many playmakers in our team and not enough other specialists.

Two of Nasri, Diaby, Fabregas, Denilson or Rosicky need to be sold.

I would not mind if Fabregas was sold for 70million pounds in order to purchase 4 or 5 athletic footballers with pace, talent and aggression.

Fabregas numbers have been great this year because the team is catered to his talents. He is also restricting Arshavin’s capability

But to be honest with our payroll restrictions and our manger’s philosophy,

I do not think a Fabregas as our main will win us a EPL title or my ultimate dream: A EUROPEAN CUP

  89. Stu

Cesc has great numbers because ha has been on fantastic form this season imo not because the team caters to his needs. United catered to Ronaldos needs when he got 42 goals. Its not often a team sets up their team in such an extreme way for just 1 player.

Also, Arshavins numbers are no worse here than they have been throughout his career. If, as you say, the team works for Cesc then other players would have more assists than Cesc who is, and has been for a few seasons, one of our consistently top assisters.

I prefer to think of it as Cesc being the fulcrum of our team because he quiet often drops deep but still is good enough to bring the ball forward as well as being on the end of moves. Its a sign of his maturity that he has added goals to his game rather than just good passes.

  90. Stu

Actually, Arshavins assist count is rather low this season, especially for someone who is usually one of the more creative players in the team.
