Love never dies. The sequel.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

So there I was last night, at the Adelphi Theatre have a night of culture and romance, the evening began at a restaurant called Rules, and very nice it was too, but as I was walking past a pub, I saw a board advertising the City vs Wigan game, my mind then drifted toward Wednesday and the Barca game.

The show was top draw if you liked the Phantom, I won’t tell you the ending, as I won’t spoil it should you be going, but when all the songs started, my mind went back to the Arsenal and the Barca game, thinking about Thierry and how he said he will always love Arsenal, well love never dies was a sequel to the Phantom, so I’m thinking the Phantom was the 2006 final, where the Master’s heart was broken (that’s what they call the Phantom, the Master) and Love never dies will be the quarter final against Barca tomorrow, where we shall have our revenge.

Tomorrow is such a massive game on so many levels, the first is to play against the favourites and current holders, the team that easily beat the same mob that trashed us in the semis, this is one year on, they have added Ibrahimovich and we have brought back Sol and bought in Tomas Vermaelen, we don’t have Robin but we do have Arshavin and we didn’t have him last year as he was cup tied.

It looks finely balanced to me. So who will will play? Well let me suggest a team that I think will play, and we’ll go from there.

Almunia (sorry)

Eboue Campbell Vermaelen Clichy

Nasri Cesc Song

Walcott Bendtner Arshavin

What I have Song in there? Ok let me start with that one, he will combat YaYa and hopefully break up their swift movement across the middle, Diaby is still not 100% but I would use him as an impact sub, he’s good at that, if he was fit though, he would be my choice in this game.

Nasri in there because he’s good, he the form player and when you are playing a team with the skill they have, then stick on our own and send a message, if Denilson appears, I will bury my head in my hands. Cesc, say no more, he will play and have a blinder.

Up front I have gone with Theo, mainly because I think this could be the team that he can terrorise with his pace, I think with Thierry’s number on, Capello in the crowd and the world watching, he will be the star, if he’s not, then we need to re-think him next season, we can’t wait forever, not when they get paid £60k a week, I love you Theo, I really do, but now you have to show us how much you love us back, it’s time to deliver.

Nikki B to get the nod over Eduardo because he’s a handful and I think their defence is their weakness, plus we’ll need some height defending corners as they have some big boys in their team.

Arshavin, well, he’s simply the best, and better than all the rest, ( a song in there) he is our Messi and I think he’ll want to prove that, and he’ll want to show Barca how they screwed up not signing him. He is the third player I’m tipping to have a blinder.

The back four for me picks itself, but I would have Eboue over Sagna because he will link up well with Theo and Nasri, and although Sagna may edge it defensively, he can’t cross a ball to save his life, having said that I won’t be devastated if he’s selected, he’s still a great player.

If things aren’t going to plan then he has to make changes early, by that I mean at half time, not the customary 74 minutes. So we run the risk of injuries, so what? We also run the risk of losing the tie, and if we are playing badly after 45 minutes, another 30 with the same team is pointless.

That though, I don’t think will happen, I believe the atmosphere will be like the semis last year, except this time we won’t go one down after 7 minutes, I hope!

Expect to see Thierry get a great reception, he deserves it, and it may screw him up!

I truly believe this will be one of the great nights of European football, I believe we’ll win as well, handsomely, so on a night when our whole season rests on 90 minutes, expect a great performance.

I’ve been listening to the transfer stories, Carlton Cole, Eden Hazard and Boateng. Well Carlton Cole is a crock, so forget him, Eden Hazard is just like watching the Nasri clip of 3 years ago and frankly we have enough young, small and tricky players that get knocked off the ball, do we really need another? And Wenger won’t spend that sort of money.

Boateng though looks promising, he has one full cap and is probably on the bus to South Africa, so buying him now may make financial sense. However, is he better than Bartley or Nordtveit? Now that’s the real question, if he’s not, then buy a grown up. We will lose Gallas, Campbell and Silvestre in the summer so we need to replace at least one of them.

Finally Almunia says he never listens to criticism, yeah we know mate, nor does your manager, and unbelievably that’s why you’re still in the team, try watching a video on goal keeping howlers, I’m sure you’d be on most of them. Better still look at the video from Saturday, maybe you can learn from it.

We’ll talk more tomorrow about the Barca game, I just wanted to set the scene. Have a great day Grovers.

Oh yeah, the ending I wasn’t going to ruin? He dies in a car wash accident and she runs off with the bloke that sells the Big Issue outside the Adelphi, enjoy the show!

    Confident

Ironic name there. Don’t worry about barca. They have looked average on the road. Only 1-1 draws throughout.

Gallas has been training for 3 days and he plays for me and Diaby and Fab4 will def play. No way Cesc is going to miss the biggest game of his captaincy because of a bruised knee.

Beside its only Wolves at home at the weekend. He can rest then.Almunia better NOT………(INSERT WHATEVER YOU LIKE)

  2. AA23

    Maciek
Injuries are “all part of the game” remember? like getting your players legs broken time after time.
The manc cunt fans will understand its “just banter”.
Like the stoke cunts gave to Ramsey for being a bit too quick for Shawcross.
    Everyone said thats fine.
So I also hope Rooney is badly injured and loses not only his leg but also gets a brain tumor.
    just banter though guys!

  3. Maciek

Stu, I would love to see Utd losing in CL and PL, but I want to see us winning something aas well. And with this clown in goal it seems unlikely.

  4. Stu

Man, no offence but who gives a shit about England. Club before country. If rooney missing the WC or be not fully fit fot it means arsenal win the league then so fucking be it.

  5. hitman

Your right Rob. 4 years on and Coco is still committing howlers.

But forget that, Rooney’s just got injured. We’re back in the title race… until Coco plays again.

  6. hitman

AA23. Very harsh. But I’m sure your a really nice guy, who loves his mum and havnt got a bad bone in your body. So it OK.

  7. Maciek

Wishing someone all the worst things is immature. Without Rooney they are finished, but wishing him a broken leg just because a few jerks has wished it to some of Arsenal players?

  8. Pat

Its always club before country. United are very big on that. Fletcher said it in an interview that he’ll do as told by SAF. He missed a friendly game and was asked that question, if anyone was wondering.

  9. goonermichael

I just got home. On the way I looked into the plough near the british museum (full of dirty fucking cockney red scumcunts)and it was 1 nil to the mancs. Got home and they’ve lost and shrek is injured. Which was nice :)

  10. Stu

Man, i dont know tbh since i dont drink Guinness myself.

Truth, Fergie would say that wouldnt he though. He is a cunt after all. Rooney landed on his ankle badly, thats how he injured it.

  11. hitman

Arsenal /Bordeaux final is still on.

we just need to raise our game tomorrow just like Munchen did tonight.

We wont be able to moan about crap pitch or rough tackling tomorrow.

We’ve got to be mentally strong. Bollocks.

  12. hitman

I wish Chozzer. Would never get into Wenger’s team at my age. But yes, my first touch is better than Ade’s and Nick B. And my finsihing is still better than Arshvin’s.

  13. hitman

United have had a bad night. They say things go in threes. Lose 2-1, Rooney injured. I hope they have a safe journey back.

  14. Stu

If we are to make the most of Chamakhs aerial ability next season then i think we’re gonna have to either drop CLichy and Sagna or severly limit their time on the ball in the attacking third. Chalme and whoever their leftback is seem to be decent crossers and they have Gourcuff, Goufrann and Wendel etc. Our best crosser, arguably, if Traore and he isnt even a first choice.

  15. zeus

    Hitman

That was funny untill I remembered the eert parallels of the Munich disaster. I’m not laughing now. That was in bad taste.

  16. hitman

Eboue and Tarore and Gibbs are good crossers. If only they could defend like Clichy or Sagna. Correction. If only they could defend like Sagna.

  17. hitman

Zeus. We really dont wish anything bad to happen. That would be in bad taste. It was more an observation that they were playing in Munich.

  18. Ooby

Hi all – busy day here just read post. Geoff I cannot believe you first put Walcott’s name on the sheet but first have to justify Song’s inclusion!? And then to suggest Walcott has it in him to terrorize the Barcelona defence, well, let’s just say I hope you’re right. But to me he would be better off with Rosicky – Why – Because he can play football.

As I say if he picks him I hope i’m wrong but surely he’s the impact sub.

  19. km

gr8 result tonight – really happy!

    Rooney injured…..ManU lost …. haha ;)

Ribery was the most influential player imo

ManU lost the match in midfield…they could’nt get the ball off Bayern

However i thought Bayern didn’t have the cutting edge that ManU had in the box. However the arrival of Gomes changed that.

It also showed why Rooney is not in the same class as Messi & Ronaldo in the skills & technique dept. Rooney has a gr8 attitude and power but he does not have same magic/skill set as Messi/Ronaldo.

  20. km

Rooney out of Chelsea match and the return leg against Munich. If its an ankle twist then he’s out for at least 2weeks.

  21. hitman

I would play either of them Ooby.
They are off form. We cant afford to carry passengers.
Its got to be Diaby, Song, Fabregas,
Nasri Bendy Arsh. Those are our stongest players.
Back to tonite. How good were VDS, The two french keepers & Chamak.
Lloris and Chamak could turn us into trophy winners

  22. km

ManU losing Rooney is a hammer blow. lets how they cope with them losing their 1st choice striker. We’v had to cope without RvP…i’d like to see some media analysis on this

  23. km

    Ritesh

i hope it is….but it seemed more like an ankle twist. i guess we’l know by 2moro afternoon. i’d love it if he’s out for the season

  24. Ooby

Hitman I agree both off form but i’d take an off form Rosicky before Walcott as I know he can play but I know what you mean. Yeah they are exactly the type of players who could do it for us. Is Chamakh a sure thing as I heard that may have fallen through???

  25. AA23

    Hmmm
might put a different spin on Saturdays game now.
I had the mancs to beat Chelsea but without fat boy what do we think?

  26. Alex

Lol yeah Fergie said in his interview after the game that he got kicked on his ankle but then the guy told him he went over it himself

  27. choy

Ooby.. I think its a done deal, heard they were waiting till the end of season to announce it to respect bordeaux.

  28. Stu

I’ll be hoping for a drab 0-0 with lots of injuries and red cards. But seeing as its at Old Toilet and Chavski have a fairly shit away record i cant see anything other than a manc win unfortunately.

    Gibbs away from home

  30. km

Watching todays game….ManU looked a bit like a blackburn/Everton……no guile….if ManU meet Barca they will definately get raped again….ManU cant play against a tough team which is better than them on the ball.

Bayern were v.good in midfield and defence imo but lacking in the last 3rd of the pitch. Fergie will have a nightmare nxt week because Robben is back and he’s better than that turkish player – Altintop (?)

  31. hitman

Oohby I think with Chamak scoring tonite 4 UCL goals in total someone is bound to offer him more than us. The lad know how to head a ball.

AA23. A draw would be good. I can see Utd definite dropping more points e.g City / Spuds / Blackburn games without Fatboy. Chelsea only have to draw twice for us to overtake – Old Traff & Anfield should do it. Back in the race.

  32. km

    choy

if Ribery was playing in a better team his reputation will grow. He would be awesome at Barca on the left wing…..As a football fan i hope he chooses Barca over Madrid because he would be fantastic alongside the likes of Xavi and Iniesta. He was superb tonight i thought…..he carried Bayern’s attack today. He was asking for the ball all the time and was technically above any player on the pitch.

rooney is praised to the sky in England but he lacks the technical skills to be a true great imho

  33. Supergunner07

@ Stu, i presume AW still wouldnt give in, so to satisfy fans he will give games. Anyway back to your question, Charmark’s key skills are Aerial ability and hold-up play but average finishing on the floor so probably will likely play away from home. Whereas at home, efficieny in-front of goal is more needed as opposition sit-back so RVP will start centrally. Its a guess

  34. km

I hope Chelsea beat ManU now that Rooney is out. Lets hope Bayern kick them out of Europe too. Shrek’s injury has changed the whole dynamics of the title race and the champions league. Imagine if we beat Barca and Bayern beat ManU… ;)

  35. km

    SG07

Chamakh can play on RW as well….however agree with u that he needs to improve his finishing with his foot if he wants to become a better striker

    ———————————–
At home is the only advantage ..
and it will probably be enough ..

  37. gnarleygeorge9

Chamakh seems to rely on crosses from out wide, & with the poxy way that the Arsenal full backs cross, he would/will struggle. But he does look lively.

    Geoff, if you are there.

I’m listening to “Talkshite”. If what this bloke is saying about how the GB system works. I have 2 things to say. 1. No wonder people are leaving Blighty in droves, & 2. Its time you all had a change in government.

  38. Kreshnik

chavski will either win or draw them … they don’t just miss rooney … it’s also the mental shock they got today … fergie will dfntly whip their asses but sometimes in this occasions that really does more harm then good. I truly fuckin hope their season is over …. and ours just started :D

  39. timmyloveslegrove

I watched the Bayern Munich game and the Shrek incident looked pretty bad-he fell down in pain after injuring himself (no contact whatsoever from any the Munich player) he had to be taken off straight away. No way is he going to play on Saturday.

  40. zeus

Nothing needs to be said about tonights performance. The one question im left with after tonight is WHAT THE HELL IS MICHAEL CARRICK DOING IN OUR FIRST TEAM SQUAD?! A player beeing paid that money, and having performed that good in earlier seasons has turned into something so shitty it makes me wanna puke! Can tackle, wont tackle, can pass, wont pass, can track back, wont track back. There’s so much he can do, but there is not a fucking shit he bothers to do!
    **************************************
We are OUT!! We underestimated bayern and now it has come back to bite us on the backside, on top of that I can see Robben Running RIOT if we give him space because remember we are now trailing which means we have to attack..now with Robben and Ribery flying on the wings they could really expose us! People need to remember that this is EUROPE, no games are easy, we were smiling when the draw was announced but we could be looking at an exit from Europe and Rooney INJURED for the run in for the prem!! These injuries happen when a team like ours OVER RELY on Rooney!! I’ve got a feeling our season is OVER!!

    ****************************************
A few Manc are going crazy it seems. LMAO

  41. Stu

LOL Zues. Talk about over reacting. Although im sure most of us of the grovers on here are like that when we lose. Wait until the return leg at OT when united win by an og of deflection and they will all say its the mark of champions etc.

  42. gnarleygeorge9

Speaking as a neutral here, but I’ve got to say that Manchester United were very ordinary against Bayern. They lacked imagination, & only seemed to want to defend what was a lucky lead.

How the hell are they top?

How the hell did The Arsenal not beat them this season?

And as for that big mouth Evra. Hang your head in shame

  43. Ja_Gunner

    HAhaahahahahahaha

I just saw the Olic goal….Evra never had a chance..

Olic really surprised him….and the fuckers Vidic and ferdinand looked like some fucking dinaosaurs..they hardly moved before the ball was in the back of the net…

    It was fucking delightful…

Seeing those two lumbering around like two trailor tractors…

  44. YON

The reason we didn’t beat United is because we have an inferiority complex. Nobody in Europe plays United and their useless midfield was exposed once again. We have the best (technically talented players) in our league… but we need “star” players to gain that psychological advantage that United seem to have over the rest of the league.

    We could own Barca tomorrow.

  45. Ja_Gunner

Hopefully the fact that Manure have to attack will come back and haunt them..with Robben runnin riot on the counter…

    I hope and pray….they fucking drop out….

If they do..and we somehow get passed Barca..then I would be confident of winning the whole thing…

I would be confident against Inter because Roma dominated them from what i heard….and we play similar to Roma but only much better…

We should have beaten Roma 10-0 at the Emirates last year….it was only profligacy that caused that tie to seem so close..

Also by another comparison..Barca dominated Inter as well….so therefore no matter Mourinho’s tactics…I think we will win….

It seems Inter cant deal with highly technical sides…..They nullified Chelsea’s Power….but they havent seemed to solve the problem of technical sides yet…

  46. cesc rule

hehe..i have predicted rooney will be injured big time..since he is carrying an injured foot like arshavin last time around. He was boasting and confident he can play it through..manure manure..hope u guys have a draw or lose to chelski..keh keh keh

  47. AA23

I still think United will beat Chelsea even without fat bollocks.
Those awful cunts always respond well to a beating.
Lets not forget that Chelsea are shit.

  48. AA23

    Ethan
Tonight will be a specatcle alright.
If I was Barca, and in many ways I am, I would just shoot non stop from absolutely anywhere.
Almunia is so crap that 98% of shots on target will go in.
And 99% of shots off target will be helped in by that fucking shithead.

    —————————-
me too , especially after last night ..

a bounce back will motivate them enough , and with home ground AD . .. Manu is the likely winner ..

however you cant right the chavs off they have the bodies ..

its question of managers and desire …
    and home ground advantage !

i think that will be key for man U in the final 10 minutes ..

    is webb the official ?

if he is, you can pencil it in as a win now :)

  50. ethangunner

yep tonight you need to attack more ..
they are a passing team too , and to dominate possession with help shield the LOSER in goals :)

  51. ethangunner

i hope we dont play boring possession game get a 1-0 result , hear all the plonkers carry on how great we are for the next fortnight then goto the neu and get torn a new asshole 4-0

we need goals a plenty tonight ….

  52. AA23

    Ethan
got to agree that the old trafford factor will play a role.
Man u are simply a better side than Chelsea.
I hope for a draw or a Chelsea win though

Can we beat Barca over 2 though?

    ———————————–
like old trafford plays a part in Man U’s destiny , irony usually plays a part in ours ..

i think we will beat the current champions , then go out, when we dont expect it…

    like usual ..

  56. ethangunner

we will pave the way for someone else to win easier , and in the mean time throw the kitchen sink at it .. having nothing left for the EPL ,something that was a more reachable target to begin with ..

  57. ethangunner

i think the heavy commitment will shed light on further injuries …

i think wenger was correct to only go for 2 cups this season because of squad depth .
i dont agree with it (we should have a bigger squad of experienced players) but i understand the principle .

and with this run in a fear it will be exposed for the 5th year in a row .

personally i cant see us getting past them ..
they have too much talent , but tonight we have home advantage and no doubt it will be our best chance to try and get something from it .

and if man U and the Chev’s are out of the C.L i cant see us getting anything from the League .

  58. ethangunner

I thing is the more C.L games we play midweek the more wenger will tinker with the squad and we will hemorrhage points in the EPL ..

    it has too !

I suppose its a matter of priorities BUT i think in sport you need to focus on the more attainable.

especially if you look at our immediate past .

a win is well over due ..

  59. ethangunner

well its well overdue if you want to maintain the TOP FLIGHT status …

you can hardly call yourself top flight if youve won nothing for 5 years !

thats what we face if wenger screws the pooch !

  60. ethangunner

and with the way wenger has loaded all his eggs in 1 basket he is due for a caning :)

better put the exercise books down the back of your pants now Arsene , im sure your in for a spanking :)

well the odds suggest so …

  61. ethangunner

id rather gunnersaurus be our goal keeper .

he is larger in mass and has more a chance of keeping it out than MooN…

  62. gnarleygeorge9

gunnersaurus wouldn’t do the job. Did you see the look on his big green face when the Verminator was sent off, & Le Gaffer rushed over to the 4th official standing next to the big lizard. The saurus is ok hamming it up with the kids for the camera, etc. but you’d rather Stan “Between the posts” Hartley than him &/or Coco.

  63. ethangunner

    gg

i saw it from a different angle ,
i saw gunnersaurus LEAN OVER & say ‘ ARSENE ! PSSS .. PUT SONG BACK IN THE CD ROLE AND PLAY 4-3-2 :)

  64. ethangunner

YOU SAW THE BIT WERE GUNNERSAURUS LOOKED STUNNED because arsene said ‘ explain it too me again or ill take your head off ‘ :)

  65. ethangunner

i just think gunnersaurus looks less stupid than almunia :)

but it is just like swapping one clown for another :)

  66. sixx pac

Interviewer: who is the hardest working player at Arsenal? Fabianski: Gael Clichy Arshavin: The goalkeeping coach. Fuckimg hilarious

  67. dennisdamenace

Apparently Gallas ‘has a chance’ of playing tonight!!

And, AW will wait until the warmup before making a decision as to whether Fab4 plays tonight!!

  68. Micky Did It 89

Hardly desperation. Anyone would want to play their top players. And morning DDM.
Oh, and I hope you have a speedy recovery Mr Rooney.

  69. Micky Did It 89

Ethan: it was a general observation. My little dig at people who use that term.
Boy, am I looking forward to this game, altho I am not going.

  70. ethangunner

but i agree with using theo at home as against away …

the pace will shock them ….

it could be good for a goal ! …..

i dont think Arsene will start theo ..
so its not very AKB at all :)

  71. ethangunner

mick it will be a ripper of a game ..

regardless of result , our players and some of the best in the world all at 1 venue ..

and i think at home we will more than hold our own …

i just fear the away leg , and how much damage can they do at home to big al !
