We lose 2nd spot but we’ve closed the gap, can we buy Arsenal after the budget?

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Ok a few things, the latest rumour is a swap deal with Inter’s Mario Balotelli plus cash for Cesc Fabregas. What a load of rubbish, of all the deals we could do, why on earth would we go after an egotistical trouble maker that has Adebayor stamped all over him for our captain.

Other news is we lost our cherished 2nd place but the chavs and mancs have all played 31 games and there’s a 2 point blanket over the three of us, that means one draw and we are in front, providing we scored a few more goals of course, 8 to be precise!

Birmingham won’t go into the weekend full of confidence after their poor week but we will, and with Barca up next, this could be one of those great weeks. I watched the Barca vs Osasuna game last night and although Barca won, they were crap, Messi got booked and they looked shaky at the back, I think they’re there for the taking.

Having watched Alister Darling’s budget yesterday where he taxed the people that work hard to give it to the people that don’t, as usual, I was wondering if we could lobby the government to let the Arsenal fans buy Arsenal, for nothing of course, it’s only fair, why should we not own something we haven’t worked for, why should rich people have everything, just because they work harder, sorry, but that’s just not fair.

I also think that if Labour paid our fares to the ground and found it in his heart to make a contribution to our season tickets, it would be a real vote winner, and it’s only fair, why should people that work hard always get the nice things in life.

LE GROVE IS NOT A POLITICAL BLOG, THIS WAS A REQUEST FOR GOVERNMENT MONEY, NOTHING ELSE. IT’S OUR RIGHT.

Jay Simpson wants to come back to Arsenal in the summer, I think Wenger should play him or sell him, the boy is so loyal and we keep shoving him out on loan, the manager knows whether or not he wants him, stop messing him about Arsene, tell him one way or the other.

So the way I see it, we now get to play 4 consecutive matches against teams that like to play football, so in theory, that plays into our hands and we should win them all, Taylor went to Watford so there’s no chance of Eduardo meeting up with him should he play at the weekend.

Maybe we should try him up front with Theo and Nikki B, or Rosicky and Nikki B and rest Arshavin, at least until the second half, maybe this is the time for Eduardo to show his worth.

Have a great day Grovers, tomorrow is Friday.

I think Nikki B has always played well with a smaller player..like Carlos Vela.

I mean in the 4-4-2 theyre the 1-2 punch like Zola and Tore-Andre-Flo used to be.

But where is Vela…and since Nikk is being deployed up top by himself…he’s starting to feel lonely…shades of Adebayor syndrome.

  2. Kreshnik

David … the thing with Bendy is the presence and the positional sense. U’re right about the misses to a certain degree … but the reality of it so far is that we seem more fearful with him upfront than without and that is exactly because of those 2 factors. And guess what, that starts easing up some work for the mids and defenders because now the opposition has more work to do there. So if missing a few chances still means that we’d keep a clean sheet and win the game … then it’s obviously good times

  3. David

    Kreshnik

Presence and positional sense is a bit vague. If you mean having a target man then yes i agree. To an extent. The finishing thing is something ive been bitching about for 2 seasons now. And he’s not improved.

  4. choy

We’re a better team with Nikki B than without him, when RVP is injured.

    Enough said.

    Keep moaning all you want.

    To quote nikki b

“I have read some criticism of me after the game last Saturday, but me and my team-mates have just laughed about it,” Bendtner said. “That is how I look at that: I laugh. To say that the Arsenal fans were not behind me is not true. They really supported me.

“It feels incredibly good to score my first hat-trick for Arsenal. It has been on its way for quite a while, but now I have done it and it is really one of the personal goals I have wanted so much to achieve. I am so happy to receive the match ball as a memory, and all my team-mates have signed it. I will keep it as a wonderful souvenir of my first hat-trick — but definitely not my last.

I am happy to play as a centre forward because that is my real place in a football team. I know that when I am playing there I will be scoring goals. Early in the season I was being played out wide, which is fine, but it is not where I belong. Now I get a lot of chances to score goals in the middle, which I don’t get on the wing.”

    Kresh

yes its more of a case that AA23 and nik combine well with everyone in the box …
    with …

    cesc – nasri – diaby ..

in some ways im hanging out for the TEST , that IS BARCA ..

to gauge if we can be giant killers ..
can we match them ? beat them ?
    dominate them ?

but id prefer to just focus on the EPL ..
    and win SOMETHING !

the Chev’s have got no other focus now ..
    (scary )
they might have goofed up this weekend , but i think id prefer them to still be in the C.L draining the teams resources .

  6. zeus

    @ Pedro

    Bergkamp? Really?

I think you do our gr8 Dutchman a great disservice there. Denis was all class with some Zidane-esque touches and passes to go along with his shooting. B52 will NEVER reach in that category of player quality.

David goes a little too far in his criticism, but to an extent he isn’t really lying is he. B52 is about 3-4 years away from becoming a ‘GOOD’ player especially since he will be playing wide right when RVP comes back and whenever he is fit.

The best I think Nik will become is looking like a player of Iaquinta’s (of Juve)quality.

  7. tt takka

    Rich = hard worker.

I’ll remember to point that out to a nurse friend after she goes home collapsed after a 3rd 18 hour shift on the spin. Lazy tart.

Some even argue that the rich exploit the poor to make themselves richer – can you imagine that? Just cos people are starving while their countries are being raped by western hard workers. Cheeky baskets the lot of them.

  8. ethangunner

Ethan, I agree… he isn’t that cocky on the pitch.
    ————————

no i agree he’s a bit like you, saves all his cocky-ness for a night out on the tiles :)

with his pants around his ankles :)

  9. David

    Choy

We are better off with ALL our players fit. Not just Nikk.

We missed Walcott. We missed Nasri in the beginning. We’ve missed Diaby.

    Heck we’ve even missed Almunia.

  10. ritesh

Lets leave it like that David.

    Well said Choy.

RVP back soon as well as Gallas. Every game is a season decider now. We lose one and our season ends like last year.

  11. David

    tt taka

Its the right wing doctrine. Poor people are lazy thats why theyre poor.

We all know poor people work hard. You think people who work at McDonalds all they do is flip Burgers?

  12. Pedro

TT, interesting, you might be talking to Geoff’s wife then.

Also, lets get things straight here. Nurses get a fucking amazing package through the NHS. Not only do they get loads of holiday, they ALL take their sick pay as holiday. I’ve worked for the NHS, so I’m fully aware of how the system works.

Fair play to them, they do a great job. But it’s their choice.

Yawn on the exploitation bit… we can all educate ourselves these days and in the UK, everyone has the same opportunities within reason… it’s how hard you want to work.

    Muppet.

  13. choy

Well.. you can’t kick him out of the team.

Instead of supporting our only half fit striker you keep putting him down.

    So continue, keep moaning!

According to Bettorlogic Player Pro, over the last 50 games the Gunners have a win percentage of 52 per cent without Nicklas Bendtner. With him in the side, the win-rate rockets up to a whopping 76 per cent.

  14. Kreshnik

    David,
Presence (to me) is having a target man, positional sense is off the ball movement to get into good positions (thus so many good chances) and actually to work ur ass off to get in those positions

  15. ritesh

    tt taka

Its like that around the world. I’ve got 2 nieces who are Docs and they make my finance workaholic schedule look like a holiday.

  16. choy

To put that into perspective, over that same period just 66 per cent of the games Arshavin has played have been victories, 64 per cent for Fabregas and a miserable 52 per cent for Van Persie.

  17. David

that is the most bullshite stat i will ever read in my life.

And yes…I will keep slating him because he’s a shite striker.

  18. Gooby

ask the portuguese about their opinion on bendy.

a potuguese mate of mine said that he is a monster and we are lucky to have him.

  19. ethangunner

    David

We all know poor people work hard. You think people who work at McDonalds all they do is flip Burgers?
    ————————————-
most poor people are POOR due to education ..
or lack of .. they dont get access to it , to have more job opportunities ..

it restricts there job options to manual labor really, take Thailand for instance ..

i still meet A LOT of women who only went to year 7/8 … then they go working manual labor jobs to get income as a family priority ..

oh i love the naivety of Thai women :)
    opps

  20. David

    Kreshnik

I will agree with all of that. 100%. Credit to Nikk for being in those positions…I think movement is very important…but it bothers me how we can credit one person for presence and movement and slate someone else like Walcott who has equally or impressive movement than Bendy.

Ofcoarse Bendy beats him pants down..(literaly) in the link up play but all im saying is that Arsenal do not need a Heskey or a Kenwayne Jones.

We need a David Villa. A Dzeko.

Year after Year you keep saying how young Bendy is. And 2 years later…he’s still shite infront of goal.

    Zeus

I go as far as people Goad me!

    What bollocks stats…

How Succesful do you think Arsenal are without Fabregas?

    Without 2% and With 88%?

    Bollocks.

  21. ritesh

Part of the answer is that Etan.

In fact if you chart hours spent per week by students across countries against standard of living, you will find a direct correlation.

US citizens are the future poor of the next 20 years maybe on that count.

  22. chozzer

    Pedro,

How about posting about your favourite Arsenal moments? Could be this season, could be ever.
Or how you became a gooner.
    Earliest Arsenal memory.
    Favourite away games.
Just a few ideas….maybe of no use.

  23. SharkeySure

Very good shout that Ethan ….until the last part !!

What kills me most is ‘successful businessman’ from well off families claiming to be to oh so clever and great, having started their business with a loan/gift from a family member that someone of a poorer class would never have access to.

  24. SharkeySure

    David…I write this in peace.

I used to bang on about how good Song was, to a few people but mostly to Geoff, who as we all know refused to see any good in him. After a while I just told Geoff that I really can’t make him see what he absolutely refuses to see, and stopped debating it with him.

I reckon that by now you have to believe that most on here are refusing to see what you think should be crystal clear.

So I wonder why you’re still trying to get people to see something ‘they clearly don’t want to’. Sometimes you just have to leave them to it….no..??

  25. SharkeySure

Ps I was so fucking right about Song though !!!!

Chamonix, chamone..?? Wtf does that mean anyway….??

  26. gnarleygeorge9

I think someone should throw the magic boomerang over Le Grove, so that all poitical talk stands still :)

  27. SharkeySure

You might be right Gnarley..but some injustices need airing, and sometimes its not always at the right place or time

I don’t believe half (even less?) of what Geoff writes ‘politically’. Lol

    Geoff on Politics..lol

  28. gnarleygeorge9

    SS

Chamone? I don’t know, but the meaning may be found in one of those poxy Wacko Jacko songs where he is down in the sewers dancing with a load of blokes. Or maybe the magic boomerang knows something about it ;)

  29. SharkeySure

Quite a naughty game last night by all accounts. Pompey suffered a broken nose for one player, fractured jaw for another.

Lets hope some FA charges come out of it

  30. gnarleygeorge9

But can I add, just after I say see ya choy, WTF does Chamon mean. Its sort of like an unfinished chamoneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Like an unfinished symphony or something, or maybe even unfinished business The Arsenal has with Brum. Come on Le Gaffer, its time to finish those brum bums off.

  31. David

    Sharkey

Sadly it seems to me that i cant discuss anything Arsenal without being goaded about my views on Nikk.

And its not as if I havent taken unpopular views before.

Heck. Geoff has banned me on here because ive stood up for Song. But not too many people know that.

People see what they want to see. Its part of sports but the constant goading just pushes me further myopic in my views.

  32. ritesh

Sharkey, FA took no action. They said it was an off the ball incident. Maybe rightly so too in the broken nose incident.

But I was not watching closely and missed most of the match

  33. David

Malouda went in with an Elbow. He was never going to get the ball with his head and he went straight in with his arm and then twisted the elbow straight into the face.

The other incident was Sturridge’ inability to play football without flairing his arms up and down and he caught that pompey right back right in the nose.

Blood was flowing like someone opened a tap.

  34. SharkeySure

    My honest answer David…??

Sometimes your observations on Nik just seem a little too personal.

Using words like ‘shite’ to describe any Arsenal first teamer is by definition a little/very extreme, cos he’s likely earning a lot more than you do, for doing a job you couldn’t do but would love to do.

    I say that respectfully.

It always galled me to hear (not necess. you) bloggers slating an Arsenal player as if he wasn’t good enough for their local 5-a-side team.

When you do your comparisons to other players scoring rates, ages etc etc, then fair do’s…that says you don’t think he’s what we need, or that we could or should do better.

Ps. I hope this doesn’t come across as too patroninsing, so please tell me to go fuck myself if you must ;-)

  35. SharkeySure

I saw the pictures of the Sturridge one..but never saw any highlights of any of it.

FA’s let them all off ….??

I’ll quickly say, whilst Gambons not around (!!), that it wouldn’t be like that if it was an Arse player.

  36. SharkeySure

Who you calling a horse..?? You’ll be getting a horses head in yer bed if yer keep this shite up….

On that note of poor ‘comedy’ – I’ll bid you all a good night

    Nite

  37. Jaguar

Quite an interesting argument going on here.David, despite his hate for Bendtner had stood behind every single player, unlike me.

  38. David

    Not so Jaguar

Ive said Denilson is shite as well.

Bendtner is shite. Denilson is shite.

So thats 2 oh…and ad Fabianski to that.

    All in all 3.

  39. Gooby

the player i can’t stand at arsenal is silvestre. spot on for mentioning him jaguar.

he is really poor and i still can’t see why he is with us

  40. David

    Jags

Hahahaha. Well that was a master stroke signing just like Arshavin was. It totally changed our season.

    Gm

    I disagree!

Last time we played Birmingham away Walcott was the star!

  41. Jaguar

Some of these players are not that bad.Its only that they are the victims of a nutty professor who tinkers with the team formation, playing strikers and defenders as midfielders.

  42. Jaguar

Adding to my above point,Walcott was pushed forward after Dudu’s injury at Brum.He scored two goals.Wenger just doesnt want to play Walcott as a striker,to suit his fucking agenda.

  43. Jaguar

Zeus,we should have won the 2003-04 CL,hands down. Our defence switched off in the Chavs game.If we had met Monaco,we would have swept them off,and defeated Maureen’s Porto by a fair margin in the final.

  44. Jaguar

    Incesc
When a striker is forced to play in the wings,to suit the crazy fantasies of the manager,it doesnt sound good.If what I say is bullshit, why do people like Nasri,Arshavin and Bendtner come up with their views, which contradict that of the manager.Wenger is a hypocrite, who changes his views, according to the situations, and is obsessed with his myopic ideas.

  45. Gooby

can’t see how people want walcott to play striker. the boy is pushed over too easily, he can’t head, he has a poor shot/finishing/power, poor decision making, can barely hold the ball under pressure.

he is not ready to play forward.

  46. Jaguar

Walcott played as a striker and made waves in an average Southampton team.If Wenker thought that he wouldnt replicate the same form in the league, why the feck did he buy him in the first place.

  47. Telarse

I was wondering, in an earlier post, whether Wenger’s playing of good players out of position was as damaging as playing young players out of their depth.

  48. Gooby

lol david. i forgot average first touch. Jaguar, we criticise walcott when he plays especially about those points i’ve made

  49. zeus

hahaha gm. Walcott will NEVER be a CF in the PL. But seeing as though Diaby, Eboue and Song has all started producing I’m willing to wait and see what Wenger sees in him.

  50. cesc rule

come on u guys??some of u agrreing to sell arshavin for hazard?? are u guys for real??he’s been missing some good finisheh lately..but he scored us vital goals n assists in matches.i think his 2 assist on Bendtner during porto 2nd leg game was pure class.plss remember thatcouldnt see hazard replacing him in the near future..

  51. zeus

    @CescRule

Its not a matter of selling Arsha for Hazard. No one could talk of such a thing when we see the ill effects of selling experience and replacing it with a teenager.

But the kid is special and he could be AA23′s understudy just like Bergkamp was to RVP.

  52. luke

We dont need anymore small CAM’s/wingers unless we are going to ditch one of Arshavin/Rosicky/Nasri. I would much rather chamakh than hazard.

  53. luke

    ……………………..Lloris…………………….
    Sagna………..Gallas……………Verm……….Clichy
    ……………………..Song………………………

    Bendtner……………………………………..Arsha
    ………………………RVP………………………

Subs: almunia, ebway, Djourou, Walcott, Nasri, Denilson, Chamakh

  54. luke

Zeus, I really dont think we need Hazard. Everyone raves “blah blah he was lique one player of the year, blah, next ronaldo”, samir nasri was ligue one player of the year, he hasnt had that much success yet…

Its not a matter of either Chamakh or Hazard. How about both. Chamakh is free anyway.

    2 right zeus !!,

if you keep missing out on all these POTENTIAL big names like hazzard etc , you never will JAG a cristian ronaldo , i think wellington is close however .

So no comment on the Arshavin “hoax” interview?
    ————————
yes wenger said it was off some old interview he did ages ago .. swept under the carpet ..

if he did make fresh allegations ,im sure we will never hear the light of it ..

  57. kelsey

    ethan,

    morning/evening.

If it was a hoax or a regurgled interview how come he mentioned Ramsey’s injury. AA is totally out of place giving these interviews at this moment of time, when the squad should be focusing on the run in.

He maybe right in what he said, and most of us know we could do with a 2 or 3 more experienced players, but his constant interviews on his own website do nothing for the stability of the squad, even if they are sometimes slightly misquoted.

I hope he is not yet another mercenary who will abandon ship if a better deal comes along.

He should do his talking on the pitch IMO

  58. ethangunner

I hope he is not yet another mercenary who will abandon ship if a better deal comes along.
    ————————-
i think they are all mercs kelsey..

i mean with 2 or 3 year contracts its hardly a life sentence , they must be continually writing themselves new goals depending on their PERSONAL success ..

it would be foolish to think otherwise , gone are the days of TA .. or TH 14 ..

maybe cesc will remember us fondly .. as he’s banging in goals against us V’s barca in the future .. but over all none are like your dad or mine who gave a company 20 years service ..

    a footballer is a MERC ..

  59. ethangunner

but if we dont win anything i wont be surprised if the 1st to leave is AA23 despite what people say about him being lazy , (which i dont see !)

he creates constantly .. he is one of the main reasons for us doing so well recently ..

off to sunny Spain , drinking margaritas and banging senoritas.. i hear the tax benefits will suit him too , as will the driving weather :)

  60. Micky Did It 89

    Pedro
Ticket for Barca. Lost the contact details for the guy I got the Pool tickets off thro you. Has the one Paul mentioned gone to one of your 500?
Can you email me as I’ll be off line to day. Cheers

  61. Micky Did It 89

Ethan: I too reckon AA will be a gonner. We do tend to balance the transfer books, and I see three players coming in. Really hope I’m wrong.

  62. kelsey

    ethan,

the tax law has now changed. It is 43% from 18% to 23%. Also he is 29 this year.My bet if he goes is back to Russia, but I hope he stays,he has that bit of magic seen once in a while. Our sort of Berbatov

  63. Micky Did It 89

So I reckon: AA out for a fat profit, Toulalan, Hazard, Chamakh and Lloris in. That’s four in (one free).

  64. ethangunner

29 wouldnt stop RM giving him a 2 year mega deal
i was talking about Spain Kel , the taxation is 9/10th of fuck all over there ..

if he was on 100 k a week he would more or less get most of it ..

as against 60% of it ..

  65. kelsey

    ethan,

I am talking about Spain, the tax law has changed since January, as the country is skint. 20% unemployment and more new builds for sale than the whole of the USA

  66. ethangunner

    sounds painful :)

    KEL,

yeah ? well AA23 wont have anywhere to go but italy then :)

they still pay stupid money out there too ..
and taxation is better … my friend works in milan for that very reason ..

  67. iceman

    Cheers Ethan…

Ok now I maybe crossing the line discussing a spud but is O’hara eligible to face the spuds at SHL?
