So a quick lesson in what is a Cockney.

Well first of all, you need to be born within the sound of the Bow bells. So the next question is where are the Bow bells?

Well as I spent 17 of the first 21 years of my life 200 yards from West ham United’s ground, I can tell you that 99% of their fans think they are in Bow, Hackney.

Wrong, the are next door to St. Pauls in Cheapside, the Bow bells are actually St Mary-le-bow.

This was because the shanty town attached to the City of London was populated by people that were considered odd by the gentry, hence the word Cockney, named after the Cockney hen, which laid an odd shaped egg, so they believed that people that lived within the sound of the bells were odd.

So if the bells could be heard from where you lived, you were considered a Cockney, now that in my book would be Shoreditch, Spitalfields, Bethnal Green, Clerkenwell, Hoxton, western Whitechapel and a bit of Islington which is where Clerkenwell is. Now Arsenal is in Islington, but Upton Park is some 8.5 miles away and that my friends would have to be some bell that could be heard that far away.

Now I was born in Bethnal Green which is 2.5 miles from Arsenal and that is why I support them, as they are my nearest team, but West Ham are in E6  (Essex) and some 8.5 miles away, that’s not local and that’s why I don’t support them.

So we need to beat the tractor boys (new name) today to go top, not always an easy task at our place, but I’m sure the boys don’t need any encouragement what with the cherry of the premiership summit cake on offer, but West Ham are also in their own fight, the one for the Championship summit, so they will try hard.

I’ve always had a soft spot for West Ham, my second team if you like, and a lot of my mates support them, but today is business and today we must try and up our goal difference, so Manuel, please take note.

5.30 kick offs are crazy as it screws up the whole evening, but a win would sort that out.

It’s all getting exciting now, our team seems to be coming back slowly and maybe the lure of playing Barca will get Robin to shake that leg, come on Robin, your team needs you.

Nikki B likes to play West Ham, I still remember that wonder pass he made at Upton Park last year to Ade the whore, the one that sealed the deal, Nikki made the difference that day, let’s hope he does again.

Go Arsenal go, this one is to go top! Have a great and rewarding day Grovers.

    Also meant to say Bham away is so massive now:
    I still think 5 more wins are needed to have a chance of the title from 7 games with 4 away (that’ll be a bit clearer after tomorrow, maybe)
    Winning at Bham would make that 4 from 6 with three at home.

    Also thought eboue had a great game today.He just kept on running.Why fear messi when we have eboue.A little bit of diving but for once i thought it was okay.We have been pretty nice and honest for a long time now.

    straight red = 3 games
    2 yellows = 1 game

    It’s hard not tot laugh at that. Even if Cesc plays, they will still crumble. Doesn’t Cesc always bottle it against the rentboys and Utd?!     I was pretty horrified by some of Dens recent perfs, but then started to see how little confidence he had, and put it down to him being in the worst form of his Arse career.

    Fair play to him he’s getting more amd more form back with each game.

    It getting harder and harder to doubt any else players these days….let alone give out the unabashed slatings that some bloggers do.

    Watch Diaby’s brilliant cameo today, then remind yourself of some the shite talked about him by some.

    Likewise Song. Less so Almunia, but we’re not having kittens watching him anymore are we….

    He did admirably today…fantastic shot for his goal..we’ve seen he can do that…its important to get these type of goals when you dont really have a CF.

    He didn’t miss a cross (possibly could have come for that one in the first half, as Sol may have been explaining to him), didn’t spill a shot, might even have saved the one that hit the post if it had been on target and saved the pen, pushed it somewheree sensible and got the rebound.

    Credit where it’s due, I think he was better then Denilson

    I think it will be a big problem (though not one the team can’t overcome) – if Sagna could really play CB with Eboue at RB why didn’t they do that today, there were times in the second half where no-one seemed to be closing anyone down as they ran towards our box and a top DM (i.e. Song) would have been handy…

    Re Almunia, up to thios season (or maybe the game before the Spurs 4-4, was it Stoke? last year) he had improved every year (from pretty woeful admittedly) and was looking a fair steady Top4 keeper.
    His standout performance was last years CL semi 1st leg at OT.
    That form would really help the team in the run-in.

    Evening all: That was a briliant all round performance, particularly when we went down to 10 men, Diaby looks so majestic on the ball and Song did a sterling job in both the positions he played. So the Verminator gets to sit out the next game, think we might just manage the next one without him. 3 more points, and we’re top until the manx game tomorrow. Let’s hope El Nino can whip a storm.

    I don’t get it with the pessimism. We managed 3 points, our boys are doing well, we even kept in clean after an undeserved penalty to WHU; why are we having a go at each other here?

    As far as I’m concerned, as long as the boys keep their spirits high and play their game, I’ll always support them as a Gooner.

    What about Sol’s funky swagger near the end as he dribbled the ball outa defense past Cole :D . Big Sol is a great asset.

    when neither party had control over the ball ..

    and it certainly wasn’t a RED ..

    mind you there was not simple reprimand with this official everything was a card :)

    he stamped excessive force on the game with all his stupid card waving and ruined a perfectly good game !

    How good does it feel. Lets watch them play catch up. I have high hopes for Blackburn. There is little pressure on them as they are 10 clear of relegation, so we will see what Chelsea are made of. With Pool; well when you have an in-form Torres, anything is possible. I have a feeling one of them will drop a couple of points. A bit of that every week and we all know who will be Champions.
