Juve say no to Melo but is he the only one out there?

by & filed under Uncategorized.

So Juventus have told Arsenal lay of Melo, first of all I remember when Juve used to bully our club and get who they wanted, Liam Brady and Patrick Vieira to name but two, but these days Italian football is like the Italian economy, poor and potless, so we don’t care what they say anymore, they can’t afford to buy a programme at the home of football, let alone hold onto a player.

However, if the rumours are true and Wenger is indeed after Melo, and I don’t believe he is, surely there are other defensive midfielders out there that we should be looking at.

I saw Inter tear the chavs a new bottom, I saw Barca do likewise to Stuttgart last night, now I’m not saying sign YaYa, but blimey, there must be a ton of DM’s out there we could look at, and a whole lot cheaper, why not try the Vermaelen shop, where we got him?

Luke Ayling become yet another loanee yesterday so that makes what, 14? That’s a whole team plus subs, surely we don’t need that many players that don’t play for us?

I’m sure you have all seen the new Arsenal kit websites, they are all using the same picture, so I won’t bother, it’s nice, but it was nice in the 70′s as well, I wonder if we paid them a design fee for that one! I like it, but I would hope for a bit more thought into our new kit that we are stuck with for another 2 years, retro is fine, but with a few modern bits too.

After watching Barca last night and seeing our ex gunners on show it made me think, why we can’t win the ECL? The big difference as usual was Messi, I think Robin is as good, so maybe if we get him back soon, it will tip the balance in our favour in the run in, Wenger always said he’d be back in April, well April is just around the corner, so who knows.

West Ham up next, and before you get too excited, our record against them at the Grove is not so great, so maybe our new found ability to kill teams off will pay dividends this weekend, if we can’t beat them, then we have no chance, blimey, even the chavs won that one!

I expect a thumping win and we’ll be top, you never know, if results go our way, maybe we’ll stay there, wouldn’t that be something.

Back to the defensive midfielder, yes Song has come good but we still need two in that position, Eastmond is still too young as is Coquelin and frankly Denilson has had so many chances it’s time for Wenger to do a Senderos and send him out on loan, or get shot of him, he has had more games than he deserves and is beginning to look like the player other teams target when playing against us as the weak link.

Yes Denilson, YOU ARE THE WEAKEST LINK! Sorry about that, it was a tad corny.

Before anyone tells me his completed passes are better than anyone elses, let me say that – that stat is rubbish, the only three stats that count are goals, saves and assists. Tackles made and completed passes mean nothing if the ball ends up with the opposition and before someone says completed passes must go to a team mate to qualify, if the player that receives the pass has 3 on his back and he then loses it, or the ball goes sideways, backwards or to him at 90 mph, then those stats are worthless, they do and they are.

Oh and please don’t confuse the goal at Hull with an assist, I was grateful he had a shot and we wouldn’t have scored had he not, but two things there to consider, firstly had Rosicky been playing instead, we may have score 5, and secondly Wenger should encourage his team to shoot more, evrey time Denilson does, something good happens.

Still two more days to go before we go top so lets at least relish in the fact that the chavs are still out and sympathise with one blind John Terry. How is he supposed to see a security guard when he can’t tell the difference between a mates girlfriend and a celebrity loving slapper?

Have a nice day Grovers, we are getting closer and closer to that elusive silverware!

This billy G situation is really getting out of hand and we really need him. The Sol thing in the winter is not looking as bad now. Also given that we don’t have such a congested fixture at this point, he might be okay.

  2. Pedro

Sorry Jaguar… been on a call.

Eboue played a whole season at right back, didn’t do a good enough job… so Wenger got in Sagna.

It’s not Wenger’s fault Eboue couldn’t deliver when he had the chance.

Plus… he only played him on the left once. That’s not excuse for the game he had!

  3. goonermichael

He moved him forward because he kept forgetting to defend and it didn’t work. I love Eboue. If I can’t have Champions on my new shirt I think I’ll have Eboue

From memory annual revenus for the club are now over £300m, including £100m gate receipts. You get over £50m from tv, £10m merchandise, a bunch of commercial stuff and sponsorship and I cant remember what else.

Costs are wages (about £80m last time i checked), stadium (£15m) other (£35m), debt service was £25m but that is coming DOWN as they pay down debt (from selling apartments)and some other stuff i’ve forgotten

Bottom line arsenal made after tax profits of about 35m.

Leaves us in the best shape we could have prayed for. Basically got the new stadium done and have paid down a stack of debt from that. So there IS money to buy players if Wenger wants it. This was less true the last couple of years but its definitely true now. That was probably REALLY dull and half accurate, anyone with better memory pls correct me.

And Pedro is still right about Eboue, Jaguar. I love Eboue too. Bless him and his ridiculous runs.

  6. paul

Anyone going to the game this weekend using the underground check first as there are a lot of line closures.Last game was a nightmare both ways.

reading this post there nothing new for me i have been saying this for long while, having seen delinson play for a good while now he is 21-22 he no longer considerd a rookie ijust dont see him as top 4 player,he niether has phsical attributes to play dm or creative and passing to play in attacking role.in terms of getting a dm player i feel wenger is looking very hard but if he cant it might be an idea to play diaby in that role which i think he has more than enough ability to play inthat role dont get me wrong i would prefer him to in a attacking role.the fact we have more than enough creative players in midfield risicky nasri ramsey fab diaby merida and at least 3 young players comming through on loan plus wenger can buy,but there realy only song and delinson who not realy an option.

  8. chris

    leon chill -
you’d have said the same last year about Diaby, Eboue and maybe Song, I guess.
He’s in the squad, let him improve and see if he’s good enough to force his way back into the reckoning.
There may come a day if that doesn’t happen when his contract runs out or he’s surplus to requirements and someone will offer £4m hopefully when everyone can say goodbye nice. OR he may become the new Didier Deschamps… er maybe or something

  9. leon

chris the big difference is that with diaby always had the natural ability, but the delinson situation will sort its self out if he is good enough he force his past current midfielders we have which i cat see happening

  10. rico

maciek, nah, it was going on when i left my comment and juve were down to ten…

dont get me started on david villa………

gm, we are going to get inter and the mancs will get barca…. trust me – its a fix ;)

Bendtner would be rotting in the right wing, and his career would be in a downward spiral like many of other players. So if we have Bendtner and RVP,why the feck did he go for Chamakh

    —————–

Because Bendtner is shite. And is supposed to be our 4th String Striker. He’s punching far above his weight now…fair play to the boy…but to risk another season on an Injury prone VP and that pink fairy is a sick joke. We already did it this season and all i can say is…thank God for Arshavin

  12. ethangunner

im glad ive got the number 10 shirt however ..

always fancied myself as a bit of a front man :)

although ive never rented anything in my life :)

  13. Maciek

Dave, buy Villa and play Chamakh instead of Bendy. If we does score at WHL and against City, and we win the title, will You change Your view on him?

  14. Maciek

Choy, fair play mate, but do You honestly belive that they will take at least 2 points out of Utd?

Yes, a year ago they have trashed them 4:1 but that was a different Liverpool side.

  15. rico

Hey choy, how are you? Ive been busy trying to write posts, i don’t know how Geoff and Pedro manage to do it day in, day out and always find a good topic to post about …

  16. David

This is bad for the Italian league. Mighty Juve…with all the stars…Del Piero, Trezeguet, Diego, Sissoko, getting walloped by Fulham

  17. Pat

Fulham rode their luck today. Harsh red on Cannavaro and a very harsh penalty as well.

Fulham are shit, don’t be fooled

  18. Maciek

Dave, but what about his aerial play and ability to link up play?

I’m not one of his lovers, but some day he can be GOOD. Really good.

  19. David

Yes but it just pisses me off when these teams are clearly capable of a performance..go to Old Toilet then lie down and take it.

That Dempsey goal is probably the most lucky goal ive seen in a long time.

  20. David

    Maciek

Its a shame our DM situation is in crises…otherwise Id have put Diaby as a CF ahead of bendy…Diaby has a higher work rate and he wins flick on’s with his head for fun…

  21. Pat

I’d rather have Chamakh. He is a better footballer. What exactly does “unproven in PL” mean??

Most overused cliche there is and its utter bullshit to be honest. He’s stronger than any forward we have, the best header of the ball in Europe, work rate, passion.

  22. Denis

Gourcuff isn’t enough fast for arsenal !
If Fabregas leave us, im positive Nasri will do a good job.
I hope we ll see a Bordeaux / Arsenal in champions league ! We ll all see if chamakh can fight vs the best defender in the PL… Thomas Vermaelen !

  23. Pat

Lukaku has scored yet again. Thats 15 in 25 games I think, in all competitions.

And remember, he’s 16 years old and scoring like a seasoned pro in the uefa Cup

  24. ManGoonian

The new kit is fantastic, retro and simple yet stylish, but thats way enough to set Le groves very own Victor Mildew off innit!!!

And, only geoff would see us loaning our kids (you know….18 and 19 year olds) as a bad thing…

Talk about a slow effin week…

    I DONT BELIEVE IT!!!!

  25. dennisdamenace

If The Bindippers defend like this against the Mancs they’ll have a new arsehole torn for them….

  26. ManGoonian

I have it on good authority that mascherano is gonna “do” Rooney in the 1st 5 minutes, then Carragher will, then Agger, Kuyt, Lucas and so on…. A bit of the old rotational fouling…

  27. ManGoonian

The scousers are nervous, their cup hopes are on a knife edge…. They wont have that nervousness or pressure vs the Mancs as no one expects em to do anything on Sunday… I can see em gettin at least a draw…

  28. ManGoonian

I saw the Sky Sports News interview with that poor little urchin, butter wouldnt melt, hard done by cherub; Yep, I am talkin about Ryan Shawcross…

What a complete fuckin horrendous smear job they did…. Not on the cunt Shawcross, but Aaron Ramsey! I shit you not…. The reporter was goin on about how nasty Aaron hadnt even bothered to reply to the devastated Ryan’s text message… What a fucking liberty!!!

It was a full 10 minute PR job that Cameron, Brown, or the Lib Dem guy (whatever his effin name is?) would be proud of…

    Fucking disgusting…

    Yuk!

    Barfff!!!

    Hueyyyy!!!

  29. vinnyjones

this is the best i`ve seen liverpool play in some time, hopefully they can take this form into the weekends game and get all three points and do us a massive favour.

  30. Bini

hahah… I am glad the bindippers got the result… they will be boosted for the manure game…. COME ON BINDIPPERSS…. lol

  31. David

Benitez isnt too bright is he?

Torres and Gerrald shouldve been off and let that Ngog chap disgrace himself some more…its not as if Lille ever looked like scoring.

  32. ManGoonian

True David, but at least Torres got another goal, giving him more confidence and improvin his sharpness ready to do us a favour vs the mancs and chavs…

I can see us sendin a few commemerative league winners medals to Anfield come May time!!!

You know how the Yanks were a bit part help in the 2nd world war???

  33. goonermichael

I didn’t watch the shawcross thing because I really don’t give a fuck for his opinion on anything. I hope he gets a bad injury at some point. unintentional of course. cunt

  34. big dave

    Man G.

Look at the interview again with shawcunt and you see the vile stoke fan giving it the wanker sign to ramsey as he gets into the ambulance

  35. ManGoonian

    goonermichael;

I was expecting Sky to convert him to the ranks of Mother Theresa, but when the interviewer was saying how ramsey hadnt replied to his texts like it was a terible thing and then goin on about “Wengers comments” as if he had said anything out of order really made me effin sick…

    big dave;

yeah, I was there mate, nu=ffin those inbred half wit fans do will ever suprise me after that experience…

  36. ManGoonian

I think there is a bit of quiet optimism about beating the hammers… Although i know I will be well nervous by 3pm Saturday!!! Hopefully Sol can play until gallas gets fit…

  37. zeus

Sol should be fit. Its been a week off. And another week b4 Birmingham too.

You can see why Wenger does not want to offer Gallas that 2 year contract. These things always happens to him at the business end of the season.

At any rate Sol should still be playing a few games even when Gallas returns. Wouldn’t mind seeing him in the North London derby ve Crouch or Man City vs Adewhore.

  38. David

Kazan are a good side…nothing to be ashamed about

Gentner did something Dzeko had been trying to do all past the 70min mark.

  39. ManGoonian

    zeus;

Yeah fella, I have been wanting Gallas to get his 2 year deal, yet this injury coupled with the ones he has had at similar times of the last couple of seasons has mage me wonder if he ought to get it…. At least not on the same deal anyways…

As good as he is, there’s no point using up transfer cash oin wages for yet another player who can’t play for us…

  40. ethangunner

    Oh yes Mg

    are you missing A ?

i can pretend to be him for you it wouldnt be too hard !

and can pretend to forget everything i know about football and start talking out my ass just like him if you wish ! :)

or maybe you haven’t heard enough about denilson being better than melo / and essien put together ..

would you like to know his stats :) ??

Or dudu being the top scorer in the League this season ..

or the classic that Man U , your favorite team will finish outside the top 4 this season !

Or the Chamakh reports are clearly fabricated ..
anyone who things otherwise is just plain wrong .

  41. ManGoonian

Ahh dear old misguided, sphyllus ridden ethan!!! :D

How are you doing old bean???

I think you and A are like 2 peas in a pod on opposite sides of the Autistic spectrum!!!

  42. ManGoonian

    ethan;

You will be delighted to know that Bela is fit, so maybe, just maybe he might get a game on Saturday… Where do you think he ought to play…?

At left back, or in goal is my guess…

  43. ethangunner

    Mg

after watching wenger tinker all season changing about the mid field , totally disregarding vela – rambo and jack … i do doubt it ….

But MG i will ask you this what do you think of lil jacks minutes at bolton ???

can you see where im going this this ???

  44. ethangunner

Also i think Theo would get time prior to vela , and i just cant see wenger deviating too much on the formation currently ..

i think if we see formation changes they will be subtle !

  45. ManGoonian

He’s been getting games lately ethan… I think he will be better for the experience and most probably he will get loaned out again next season… Unless he comes on again during pre-season…

I wouldnt say Wenger has tinkered too much with the midfield though… More like whoever has been fit gets a game!

Vela has been either injured, or on international duty, or jet lagged from international duty, or injured while on international duty!!!

  46. ManGoonian

Oh, I think we will see more or less the same lineups from now on in, there’s too much at stake now to tinker… One or 2 will be rotated, but the likes of Vela and Merida won’t get much of a look in, I don’t think…

  47. ethangunner

    MG

do you think once everyone is fit that song – diaby – eboue even if he goes back to his usual self wont be sacrifised for the up and coming ?!

REMEMBER wenger has a virtual merry-go- round of talent stock piling up behind them fringe 1st team players ..

if you think wengers not going to be forced to off load some ‘soon’ you have another thing coming …

it will naturally force the less talented to the bottom … or out of the club all together .

  48. ManGoonian

    ethan;

of course a few will be moved on, howver, I hope that we keep onto a few for longer this time. I think we have allowed a few to go, so that they can be happy at another club, getting games, when we should loan em out for longer… Players come good at different ages and we might rue letting a few diamonds go…

    I hope we hold onto the likes of;

Lansbury, JET, Sunu, Freeman, Bartley, Ayling, Nordveit, Djourou, Cruise, Eastmond, Watt…

  49. ManGoonian

At this moment in time, Song, Diaby and Eboue are very important players for us… That must freak a few Gooners out!!!

I gotta go mate…. have fun, catch you next time… :D

  50. ethangunner

yes fitness is the vehicle which has forced his hand to tinker ,sure .. but my point is when vela has been available more often than not he has been over looked anyhoo …

and my very point of why people like you :) etc .
get ‘REALITY PEOPLE’ like myself all wild is , think for one second about vela ! on loan since the age of 16 – 3 years on loan to acquire a work permit iin Spain. He obviously has cost the club considerable time and money .. And he is not being utilized , rather to be left in waiting whilst the marmites get their shot ..

and before you give me the… not ready shite :)

think Cesc … ! was he ready ?

  51. ethangunner

    I hope we hold onto the likes of;

Lansbury, JET, Sunu, Freeman, Bartley, Ayling, Nordveit, Djourou, Cruise, Eastmond, Watt…

    ———————-
yes i do too ! especially Coquelin and Wellington .
Vela needs to be brought on .QUICKLY.
    he and theo do !..

they ALL need to come of age .

    ..yesterday!!!.

its important for the wheels of progress .
i think song/diaby/eboue has bottle necked us from trying others too long now ..

for project youth to operate effectively
everyone needs time on the pitch ..
( or loaned out to club who will play them)

it reminds me a bit of raffa’s rotation policy a few years back …

a team does gel better when you use the same LINE UP every time … 100% ..

chopping and changing just hampers the cohesion

  52. ethangunner

    ————————–
not really if they prove their point on the pitch then i dont mind them in the squad ..
    If
eboue’s form is just a small purple patch or not , will been seen soon enough , same with bendy ..

i just dont know how much time the marmites will gt when you have a fit nasri – cesc-rosick-AA23 RVP and chamahk on the pitch ..

surely you play your best players .
and those 6 above will get top bill ..

    somethings got to give ..

  53. ethangunner

hey remember MG you have gibbs troare JD vela jack rambo all knocking on the door too ..

what do you do :) ?

  54. ethangunner

I think most fans will be far happier now !
and its not a question of wenger faith or not ..

lets face it if you break it down , we have been in transition 5 years .. sure you might argue we stood a chance hleb and flamini plus ade scoring 24 , but wenger deconstructed all that success in the off season by letting key members go ..

Wenger has hardly been the staple of perfection
    in recent years …

neglect in key areas like a quality keeper since jens left and continually persisting with eboue – song – denilson – diaby – nikb until it was past painful to watch ..

subing at a religious 70 odd minute mark , never trying to sway the game by sub’ing early or showing any other tactic other than plan A ..

players on the bench who you NEVER use !

you know i could go on !

but i wont because we have turned a corner now , wenger could just as easily fuck it up in the off season by letting cesc go , and we are back to square 1 …

also the rally driver AA23 sounds like He would rather move to Spain ..or somewhere they dont tax him :)

I hope wenger try’s to keep the squad together now .. PRIORITY 1 ..

i think once we have RVP back and a different strike opinion in chamakh , we will be far more better for it .

  55. zeus

Why is no one responding to ethan? haha

Well said on the last point. NO way does Cesc go in the summer. And if he does he has a contract until 2014. Barca will need to BREAK THE BANK to get him. Nothing under 40m and UP FRONT TOO.

But Cesc is not stupid enough to leave just yet. God I hope we win though.

  56. zeus

A tedious question to anyone still up, who plays the more attractive (not necessarily more effective) football, Arsenal or Barcelona?

  57. gnarleygeorge9

Barcelona are in an inferior comp so they will look more effective. I’d like to see them play 38 games including against the ankle tapping clubs from North England, they wouldn’t look so pretty then

  58. gnarleygeorge9

I heard talk that if it wasn’t for Maureen, Italy might have their 4th CL qualifying spot taken away.

Silly me ofcourse England would then get a 5th so that The Poo can qualify. The Poo had better get something from this weekend, coz that will be the only way I will ever have a soft spot for them.

  59. gnarleygeorge9

Where the hell is A? He reignited my hopes for this season, & now that the momentum is building he has disappeared ;)

  60. gnarleygeorge9

AAA its a good day, & now its almost beer o’clock. Hows it for you?

ACLF? I envisage them as a collection of Golloms, who will protect their precious @ all costs.

  61. angeausarsenal

Yeah right, like the coming first on leGrove addiction, the one that causes you to do all sorts of irrational, unfair and childish things
