Theo, Bends and Nasri steal show! Jack Wilshere sickens me…

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Friday night turned into Saturday morning, so excuse me if this post is a little hazy…

I wont give you the normal blow by blow account of the action, but I’ll give you the jist of the match and let you lot dissect the rest like you normally do!

The opening goal came from a magical piece of Samir Nasri ingenuity and a superb piece of finishing from our main man. Nasri was about 10 yards from the edge of the area surveying the blockade of Burnley players for an opening, he ended up playing one of those chipped passes I normally despise, up and over the Burnley back line where Cesc was on hand to half volley between Jensen’s legs… absolutely magical.

The next goal came from an Arsenal defensive brain freeze. The ball was cleared, our defense bombed forward, Burnley headed straight back, the ball managed to sail past the whole defence, Nugent chipped into the top corner. Completely against the run of play, yet typical of our defending this year.

Arsenal proceeded to batter the Jensen’s goal, the Dane continued his long run of excellent form against us. He hadn’t banked on Theo finding his shooting boots… he ran at the Burnley goal, cut inside and slotted the ball into the far corner with his left foot! Superb play and well deserved. Not sure what the celebration was all about… I’m sure the match of the dayers will be able to tell me!

The game felt like it was on tenterhooks despite Burnley rarely threatening our supremacy. Our fears were eased when Arshavin took it upon himself to beat a couple of men and bury the ball neatly inside the beasts near post.

Arsenal took the three points everyone expected them to and the quest for the title was kept alive.

There will be a lot of talk about Nik’s finishing today… it was appalling, but a few things need to be taken into account. His scoring record has been pretty good recently, he hit the target plenty of times today and he worked really hard. Today was one of those days, I’m pleased he’s making more intelligent runs, I’m pleased the crowd backed him the whole way and I’m pleased he’s playing for us. He’ll be a player and a half, mark my words.

Theo Walcott displayed the best parts of his game and the worst. He scored a great goal and far more of a goal threat today… he used his pace and played with far more decisiveness than usual, but there were still plenty of shocking decisions and very poor passes. If Theo is to become a legend, he has to work far harder than someone like Thierry, because he’s not naturally as gifted. Still, if Lennon can become a player, so can Theo. Hopefully he’ll make the world cup squad. Loved watching him kick off with the Burnley player who slid in rashley… more of the same Theo!

Samir Nasri looked the business today, he was all over the park and really stepped up after Cesc went off. Diaby also played superbly, he really is starting to deliver on his massive potential. Denilson didn’t have much to do, what he did do was sloppy and poorly executed. I don’t like to pick on players, but his form has been very poor in the second half of this season.

Manchester United wobbled against Wolves and were out of sorts. Unheard of in seasons past. They never normally stutter, so great news for us. We continued to beat weak opposition which is arguably the key ingredient to winning the league. It’s also worth noting that potential banana skin, Birmingham City slumped to a loss against Pompey. If we can take Spurs and City, we could make this one of the most memorable Championships ever.

Keep em’ crossed for Cesc’s hammy!

Overall, a great day out. Bring on the next game. I believe, I hope you do to!

P.S. A big well done to Jack Wilshere on scoring his first goal for the Trotters. I can’t tell you how pleased I am you have contributed to Bolton’s Premiership survival (Do I have to put some sort of wink there to indicate jest?). Oh, and a big thanks to all those I met before the game, a pleasure as always!

  1. Pedro

Vinny, what’s that for? A hair transplant!

I think Berbatov is the closest player to Bergkamp in world football.

  2. The Ruler

Just rewatched the whole match, Eboue was exceptional, a pretty much perfect game, he offered a lot.

  3. David

    LOL

Stu thats not fair! Its hard to think of a game Sagna plays well offensively?

Yea Walcott can be difficult to play with because you dont really have that much defensive cover. He always wants to fly…but to be fair to him he did come back and defend a few times.

  4. Pedro

    Oh really The Ruler?

    The perfect match!

I’d love to know what parameters you used to come to that conclusion!

  5. leon

stu at first i thought vela was a bit light weight but he is anything but he is very tough ruged he can hadle him self very well tons trickery and deadly finisher,i realy gallas merida and cambell stay but i think gallas is in driving seat on contract negogeations he knows full well there be at 4-5 clubs wanting him he is young 32 he is great form he leader in defence and extremly experienced, every time seen sole he looks very solid, and i know merida is real talent,i think silvest will stay if he happy to 4th defender at left back position

  6. Pedro

I’ve read that Denilson was man of the match and that Eboue had a perfect game.

Anybody want to tell me that Bendtner is a world class finisher just to cap it all off?

  7. David

Bendtner is a world class finisher.

    You heard it hear first.

What is stopping him is his age. Nothing more.

  8. Pedro

I think it’s important to remember Wenger plays Eboue at right back against the shite teams so he doesn’t have to defend too much.

  9. Mayank

Eboue had a good game, better right back than Sagna atm.
Does anyone think AC have a chance if Man U are w/o Rooney and Carrick and AC have PAto?
Also is anyone else pissed off with commentators calling Ferguson, Fergie? The Sir is bad enough imo. You’d never catch them calling Arsene, Arsey.

  10. vinnyjones

pedro, i read he needs surgery on his knee but will wait till seasons end. i love berba, his touch, control and creativity are very denis like. denis just had the killer instinct

  11. Gooby

    mayank

AC got a big chance if rooney is not there an even bigger.

but if united are out of the CL they will be concentrating more on the league and have less games and less injuries and tired players bla bla bla

  12. Big Raddy

“I think Berbatov is the closest player to Bergkamp in world football.”

No Pedro. Kaka is the nearest to DB10….. in my humble opinion.

Lovely second goal by Everton. Hull look strong, but nothing creative. They still play Nick Barmby!!

  13. gambon

The difference between Berba & Bregkamp was their respective workrates, both on the pitch & the training pitches.

The world seems to be devoid of these type of forward playmakers at the moment, which is a shame.

The previous generation had Bergkamp, Zola, Cantona, Baggio & the best of the lot Michael Laudrup.

Now I cant think of any in world football.

  14. gambon

    Raddy

I would class Kaka as a midfielder, but Bergkamp as a forward.

I think Kaka is in the same group as Zidane, Cesc, Moeller, Gerrard etc.

  15. freduardo

it would seem that only one team in the top nine of the league has conceded as many or more than us( 32) and that is Man City.
We have conceded as many as Stoke.
worrying from a defensive point of view.

  16. David

    Actually I agree with Pedro

I do think Berba is the closest to a Bergkamp type…Kaka relies less on skill and more on speed…and i dont think he is as creative.

It just hurts to say because Berba is an ex spud and now a Manc but he’s class.

  17. vinnyjones

yeah david rodwell is class. loved the goal vs united
berba doesnt have the killer instinct of denis, not by a long shot. denis was called the iceman for a reason. cold calculated winner.

  18. vinnyjones

it was hard to stomach watching such a class player in a spurs uniform. but i always appreciated what he did. look wht he did for keanes career.

  19. chris

Bendtner is a good striker and will get better -
Unfortunately right now all that matters is the next 10-15 games maybe even less IF RvP could possibly be back and effective – It’s Nik’s job to say to Wenger of course RvP is No.1 but just back from injury at a super critical time of the season you’ve got to leave him ont the bench because you know what you’re getting wit me – and it’s got to be a major contribution to a winning team and/or goals

Incidentally, Freduardo (good name) Wenger is quoted somewhere today saying “when we defend properly we’re a match for anybody” I think everybody can see the problem (but we’re still where we are)

  20. vinnyjones

i have a feeling RVP will be back for the derby and city games. he`ll be rusty but it will be nice to know we can call on him if needed

  21. David

Donavan is a good Striker if Moyes can go in the window and get a striker on-loan why the fuck cant Wenger?

  22. vinnyjones

As he walked on to the pitch (DUH DUH)
you could tell he was a man of distinction, a real big Gooner,
    Good looking, so refined,
He wouldn’t talk to Ade so he’s one of a kind,
So let me get right to the point (DUH DUH)
I don’t sing a song for every player I see,
    HEY NIK BENDTNER,
SCORE, A LITTLE GOAL, FOR ME …

  23. vinnyjones

i missed it dammit, switched over to chavs v joke city, and madrid v sevilla which is a good game i might add.
toff`s are running away with this. doing well without fellaini and cahill tbh

  24. big dave

With no song for hull match, Just hope that cesc does play, they are getting smashed but it’s not easy up their

  25. Maurya

Arsenal’s league record since March 2009 excluding games against Manu and Chelse:

    Played 34, Won 27, Lost 2, Drawn 5, Scored 95, Conceded 30.

That is giving me some hope about out title challenge.

  26. Kreshnik

    good day grovers,

so here’s the deal, I would take RVP over Ibra any day, absolutely so. And I would take Bendy over Ibra for now. Yes, you heard it right. I’ve watched quite a bit of Barca and I’ve come to realize that Barca’s attack is just going to garbage because of Ibra, Etoo’s movement, positional sense and all round game was really good, and that aided Barca’s style of play a lot. Same with us and Bendy, he has those qualities and that’s why we had sooo many chances to begin with. We obviously can’t afford to miss so many anymore … but as long as there are chances there will always be a high probability for goals too.

IMO it really matters which player plays in which system. Ibra is a great player, he really is, at Inter he was running the show, and doing a great job, but that’s because Inter’s system was built around one attacker. Arsenal (and Barca) aren’t … we are an 11 men attacking team, our defenders can fuckin score shitloads, let alone that, Denilson can score shitloads :D :D

  27. Alex

No i wanted the link you gave where there was alot of match compilation which you could download

    Villa – Chavs
    Spuds/Fulham – Pompey

fuck that means spuds could be in a final

  28. A

I wonder whether Rodwell will actually end up as a centre back still. Most Everton fans seem to think he will don’t they?

Wonder if Song will for us too

  29. gambon

    Gooby,

Yes, i think he will if he has the right training, i worry whether we are the right club for that, but he has a lot of talent.

  30. Geoff

Rodwell for Song? In your dreams, Wenger wouldn’t swap Song for Messi and Kaka and a bag of cash.

Me I’d swap him for Flamini or a bag of cheese and Onion crisps.

Rodwell for Song would be a fantastic deal but Moyes isn’t stupid and Wenger doesn’t think like a football manager when it comes to Song.

Or Denilson and Almunia for that matter, we get a great prospect like Wilshere and loan him out to a cunt team like Bolton, but keep Denilson, go figure.

  31. A

I hope so Gooby, needs to bulk up a bit, and you never know how a centre back will develop as it’s so much to do with mental strength, consistency etc. Senderos had all the talent in the world, really thought he’d be a wonder centre back!

Bartley certainly has a fair bit of ability though, Sheffield Utd seem to be critical of his heading ability though which surprises me, just compared to their big fuckers maybe it’s comparative!

  32. Stu

BULLSHIT! Fat head Richard Keys just said Scholes should be given player of the season because he hasnt won it before. What the fuck kind of united bias is this. They dont even try to hide it,

  33. patthegooner

    Stu

Maybe they should give it to Titus Bramble or Kevin Davies as they havent fucking won it either.

Manc Sports News strikes again hey.

  34. patthegooner

    Hey Geoff

Alex Song is 2nd favorite behind Lennon to be PFA Young Player of the Year. With Lennon injured you never know, he might get it……

  35. Gooby

player of the season has to be cesc. it can’t be anyone else.

young player of the season has to be sol cambell

  36. patthegooner

    Gooby

I would say that, but unfortunately I think Shrek will get Player of the year with the Man Ure Bias.

  37. Geoff

Pat, that says it all, one players who’s been injured all season against a player with no talent, who nominates these guys, ha, ha.

Never mind about Nasri, Theo, Milner, Young etc, etc.

  38. Gooby

    PTG

i agree, i thought that rooney is going to get it because of the biased media and fa.
but when the players are voting it could go to cesc

  39. Gooby

oh how sweet is hulk, he thinks he must stop cesc and they win.

we have nasri, theo, rosicky and diaby!

  40. Pat

    Arsenal
Arsenal’s league record since March 2009 excluding games against the top two:

    Played 34, Won 27, Lost 2, Drawn 5, Scored 95, Conceded 30.

  41. Stu

It means 87 points in our last 38 league matches. (the 4 missing matches being the ones we lost against Utd and chavs)

  42. Tim Stillman

    Blah! Blah! Blah Bendtner!

I went to build a fence today for my next door neighbour….I completely balls it up, it was all wonky, leaning over to his side, nails sticking out all over the place but I told him to stop moaning…I said “hey!…I was in the right position all day…what’s your problem?”

  43. colonel mustard

I think its great gooners could see the value in Nikki B at least getting in there to make a chance. we were missing that. An article I would like to see from Geoff and Pedro is the slide and slide of Eduardo…..I think Arsene will sell him….his limited pace, concentration and courage are gone. where to go from here with DuDu…discuss.

  44. zeus

Wasn’t Djourou expected back this month?

So RVP gets injured in November and ended up with 8 goals, while 3 months later Arshavin only just got on 10. I love the little Russian but he should be doing more.

  45. Pedro

Tim, sorry to hear about your fence.

I assume you have to be talking about your fence in the truest sense of the comment… because if that was an analogy, it was pretty weak.

  46. AndAPrayer

I thought his (DuDu’s) close control and link up play was pretty good yesterday (a couple of poor touches but not too many). However, he was far less able than Bendtner to hold the ball up and bring the midfield runners into play which effected the team’s dominance for the last 15 minutes of the game.

His pace was also really worrying, that run down the left wing where the Burnley player just skinned him, it looked like me running with a hangover.

He still does some things well, I’m just not sure if he does them well enough to justify his inclusion given the things he doesn’t do any more. Without his goals I don’t think he has enough about him and his goals have been missing for long enough that I’m worried.

Mind you the last player I completely gave up hope with was Diaby and he’s since turned it around so here’s hoping the next couple of months see an Eduardo revival where the shots he has placed 6 inches wide of the post now go 6 inches inside.

  47. Pedro

Gambon, you’ve made some remarkable analogies recently.

A, is still working up to your level… I’m keeping faith in him… he’s young enough to come through this barren patch.

  48. Pedro

Gambon, I think A’s have suffered recently… could be due to injury… his alround team play has been good though.

  49. Pedro

Colonel, I’ve never been a huge fan of Eduardo.

His intelligence and finishing were his main asset… but both have disappeared… and his pace is woeful!

I think Huntelaar would be the same!

  50. Man

Hull getting trashed should soften them up for next week, if we score in the first 20mins the match will be over

  51. goonermichael

Did anyone see Brian laws this morning say Bendy was his best player yesterday? I thought it was really funny

  52. Man

I see, then it’ll be difficult shifting him if he fails to recover his form…with Chamakh coming in he might benefit from a short loan move to get a good run

  53. A

I reckon we could get rid of Eduardo easily enough if we wanted to. Doubt it’ll be in the summer though, see how he is after a proper pre season, and if he’s not up to scratch next season then he’ll be gone in 18 months, or maybe even January, depending on how far he’s fallen down the pecking order.

Guess he COULD go in August if it’s obvious that he’s not gonna get to a high enough level after pre season.

Hopefully he’ll get back his old touch though

  54. reggie 57

    gambon Says:
    March 7, 2010 at 21:46

Eduardo did, along with half the residents of the highbury & islington area.

You fuckin kill me gambon haha!!!

  55. A

Did Sunu sign a new contract in the end before he went on loan? Derby seemed to think he had done, but don’t remember seeing anything on Arse.com

  56. gambon

I cant see Merida signing, he just wants to play and wont get the chance here.

He only really has one position and the best midfielder in the world currently has that spot.

  57. big dave

    Watt is better then sunu.

As for merida, do u honestly beleive he has an ankle injury.he played 10 min v bolton that day, ans he did not get kicked on the ankle like they are saying.
    He is off next year

  58. gambon

I think Sunus a far better player than Watt, but Watt is a more reliable goalscorer.

Neither will be up to it here.

  59. A

I don’t agree there big dave, prefer sunu myself.

Yeah merida did have an ankle injury, made his comeback in the reserves, but was rolling around on the floor half the time after getting kicked on his bad ankle a good few times. Made comeback from injury midweek as a second half sub for Spain’s U21s

  60. A

Though he certainly could be off.

gm – he definitely hasn’t signed yet, or we would know – same with chamakh, nothing’s been signed and sealed, but could be in talks.

  61. big dave

Eduardo was off the pace a bit yesterday, Arshavin is such a talent but he is one lazy fucker at times

  62. big dave

    A.

For me personally Watt is a better player, and the club rate him quite highly.

It’s like the Lansbury thing. He is better then Randall. JET needs 2-3 more years before you will see him in the 1st team

  63. zeus

If Merida does go, can you blame him? He is competing with Fabregas and Diaby aged 22 and 24 respectively.

Aaron Ramsey who is a year younger was further up the pecking order, Ramsey is out on loan sharpening his skills. In a couple of years I imagine JET will be banging down the door to offer some much need strength through the middle ala Diaby….

I like the kid alot, but the same thing that happened to him at barca is happening now. Might as well go to Sevilla. I wish him the best of luck

  64. colonel mustard

On Eduardo, why buy Chakmah?….let say injuries aside. If you have say miracle of miracle then all fit for a sustained period….who is the 1234….Robin, Chakmah (depending on hype), Bentner and then Eduardo……thats how I see it.. Something is wrong if the talent of Eduardo is now regulated to 4th choice striker. thats how I see it. On Arshavin, he put the F***kin ball in the net….Bang bang , babooska…

    as a aside

Jeeess….it gives me shivers to see Silvestre on the teamsheet.

  65. Man

Chamakh impending move to us is a bit like how Nasri’s was…open secret? inevitable?

I’ve been banging on about how Arsh can contribute more to the team but I’d rather not bench him…he could be anonymous for 89mins but score that important goal in the 90th or maybe 4 goals even…I’m not sure a ‘Capello-like’ manager would pick him tho, unlike Bendtner he actually knows how to shoot a ball :)

  66. gambon

Merida is behind Cesc, Nasri, Diaby, Ramsey & even Wilshere.

Of course he will leave, Wenger only wanted him to sign so he could sell him.

  67. Pedro

‘Mind you, it matters little what formation Wenger deploys if he insists on playing the Spanish waiter in goal.’

    ANR

I’m pretty sure ‘Spanish Waiter’ was started over here.

    Honoured.

  68. A

Of course Lansbury is better than Randall – don’t get the comparison there! Randall has an embarrassing attitude, and will never make it at the top level.

imo Sunu has better technique, and a better all round game, but is lazy at times and a bit inconsistent.

Watt is quick and tenacious, but I’m doubtful he could ever make it with us because of his all round game not being amazing.

JET I agree, big fan of him, only his attitude worries me in terms of his making it to the top level. He could become a left footed Diaby.

  69. big dave

    Pedro.

One of his problems is that he doesn’t help clichy out at times when he should and that leaves clichy exposed, he can track back from time to time it wouldn’t hurt him.

  70. Pedro

A, I’ve never heard anyone use spanish waiter before!

I think Bud started it right at the beginning.

I reckon there is a chance we could be Nigel Bidemeads secret vice…

  71. Gooby

eduardo could turn into the goal scorring machine but isn’t reasy physically.

it could come with time though

  72. colonel mustard

nasri is shining now…got a kick in the ass he needed….impossible to get the ball off him…

  73. Man

Eduardo is one of my fav, used to compare his finishing to Villa’s…but now its just sad, but the thing is he looked promising when he came back initially. I think its all psychological with him…
if we get him going we’ll be pretty handy next season but we’ve still got a double to win this…
on that note I’m off have a good night grovers

  74. reggie 57

No I think eddie has lost his nerve now? he seems to shirk away from any type of physical challenge understandable really!!!

  75. 71-2004-2010

JET is playing centre forward now NOT dm which is exciting, by the way.
we will win the league at the lane if the spuds get to the semi… 3rd time! (i was there for the last 2)
we were fantatic yesterday all over the pitch, we made dozens of chances, fabulous movement/
denilson? had an awful game again really awful, is it his back? lets wait and see, remember flamini, song, eboue were all awful and look at how they improved… if he doesnt arsene will let him go dont worry… he was playing aaron ahead of him, thats such a shame..
bendtner? ditto, yes awful finishing but a good game, but he did score a wonderful header last week and scores for his country, he is no ian wright but again he could come good… hopefull next seson rvp & chamak and JET anyway, with arshavin.. eduardo has a problem with his foot, i know this for a fact, so maybe he is never going to be the same again but lets see what happens next season, he could come good… i hope so, so this season we are right in it, with lots to be positive about for next season.. it seems that we will finish better than last what ever happens, big night tuesday, come on you rip roarers
