Guess where Shawcross is next week? Ratings + Review

Before I start the post, I just want to say the thoughts of everyone at Le Grove are with Aaron Ramsey. Get well soon…

I had a pre-match post dedicated to explaining my finance post the other day. I don’t feel it necessary to post now, all I want to say is that I apologise for the regrettable Gazidis headline. It was a heat of the moment opinion that upon reflection was unfair, irresponsible and clouded the point I was trying to make. I’ll explain my concerns another day…

Saturday kicked off in spectacular fashion. Chelsea dropped 3 points at home to Manchester City and lost ground with their superior goal difference. The Chav’s attacked with little intent and defended shambolically. I’ve been saying all week that I think we can win the league and I’ve been saying all week that Hilario is a keeper of questionable ability. If Arsenal could capitalise on Chelsea’s slip, there would be 3 points between the top 3. This is the closest we’ve been at the end of February since we last won the league.

What a mad season eh?

Almunia

Sagna Campbell Vermaelen Clichy

Fabregas Song Ramsey

Eboue Bendtner Nasri

The notable Absentee from the starting line up was Theo Walcott. Preferred in his place was our answer to Lionel Messi, Emmanuel Eboue. The team looked strong, the results earlier were encouraging, the only missing ingredient was a rampant Arsenal victory. Stoke had become something of a bogey team for us, Arsenal Addict made the point to me on twitter… we couldn’t let the Potters become the new trotters!

Clichy started the game with a mistake, running past the ball allowing stoke to create a move which saw fuller fizz a ball across the goal. Song lost the ball sloppily shortly after, the through ball was marshalled by Sagna, Almunia took and age to come, then crunched Sagna. A worrying start from Arsenal.

It didn’t take long  for Stoke to take the lead. 7 minutes to be precise. A Delap throw, nodded on for Pugh to head in. It’s just so depressing that firstly, Song preferred to play it out for a throw instead of leaving it for the corner or dealing with it more effectively and secondly that we are getting beaten to second balls in our box, what was the greatest right back in Europe doing at the back stick (What he does best, switching off)? Shocking defending.

Individual errors were stopping Arsenal getting into any kind of rhythm, we hadn’t turned up for the biggest game of our season.

Clichy’s tiny throw made me laugh after he took the ball off Delap. The stoke players throw in prep was starting to grate.

Song continued to have a shocker after failing to push up with the defence allowing Shawcross to tee up Fuller.

After 30 minutes we began to find our feet.

Cesc picked the ball up out wide, whipped in a cross, Bendtner squeezed between two defenders and buried a header back across Sorensons goal into the top corner. Superb header, finally, Nik had delivered his first bit of true class this year.

Eboue wasn’t imposing himself on the same way as he was the week before but he was playing for freekicks and winning them, which can be a touch irritating. He has the skill to skin people, he should have the confidence to use it when his chips are down.

Only two question needed answering in the second half. Were Stoke too tired to make an impact? Were Arsenal hungry enough to dig out a result?

Eboue launched a rasping shot that was tipped over by Sorenson.

Then came the saddest moment of 2010, Shawcross flew into a high challenge and snapped Rambo’s leg. Yep, once again, a disgusting high challenge from a so called physical team has ruined 18 months of a young mans life. How many times do we have to see this happen to our boys? Diaby against Sunderland, Eduardo against Birmingham and now Rambo at Stoke. It’s a disgrace… I don’t care what Shawcross  intentions were… he tackled half way up a fellow professionals leg, disgraceful. More disgraceful than the challenge? Stoke fans chanting, ‘your f**ked and you know you are’ and ‘he’s only got one leg’ to a 19 year old boy verged on criminal. Words can’t describe how sickened I was by that. It sums up the attitude of certain clubs though… the fans knew what their player had done, but didn’t care… it was part of their make up and Arsenal needed to be man enough to accept that.

The game kicked off again but the players were shell shocked. I was praying this wouldn’t become another Birmingham 2008 moment. Cesc fired a freekick into the box, Sol Campbell failed to get on the end it and the ball flashed narrowly wide.

Shortly afterwards, Eduardo found himself through on goal after Song played him in, he hooked the ball just past the near post.

Then our moment came, Nik B was searching for an opening on the edge of the box, his flick through was handled, the penalty given. Cesc stepped up against a keeper who had saved his last 3 penalties. He glanced at the goal, ran towards the goal and buried the ball just past Sorenson’s hand. His celebration was a dedication to Rambo. Touching.

We were playing for the third goal, Nik Bendtner was denied a clear penalty after being shoved over blatantly in the box. Ref’s find it tough to give two penalties in ten minutes though. The Rosicky controlled the ball on the edge of the box and low and powerfully, Cesc anticipated the spill, intelligently cut it back to Vemaelen, bang! 3-1… dead and buried!

The team huddle called by Sol Campbell after the game reminded me of the unity and spirit after Bobby Pires busted his knee incident a few years back. Lets hope that spirit brings us a trophy we can dedicate to Rambo… he deserves as much.

Cesc was fiery after the game, he pointed out that he appreciates the English game is rough, but it goes too far sometimes. Today it went to far. It was disappointing to listen to the sky interviewer trying to get Wenger to look like he was a whinger after the game, his message was the same as Cescs, the jist was -

1) There are no coincidences in football

2) The treatment meted out to Arsenal is unacceptable

Andy Gray can talk about players not wanting to injure fellow pros, but that’s b*llocks. Most of us know what people are like in Sunday league, so to think Pro’s have a different mind set is fantasy talk. He might not have intended to break his leg, but the intention was there to hurt.

However, talk that Shawcross is the only person to blame here is unfair. He made a hideous mistake, but be fair, he’s playing in a country where that type of challenge is lauded and he’s at a club where ‘physicality’ even brutality is demanded. When you’re raised in a culture of vindicated thuggery, things like this will happen.

Though it must be noted he has previous and I’m pretty sure he was let go by United because of his disciplinary record in the reserves… I’m open to correction there. I’m pretty certain he smashed Adebayor in the sidelines last year. It’s interesting to note that this type of thing only happens in away games. Even more interesting is the whereabouts of Shawcross tomorrow… According to a Diamond Club member he’ll be at Arsenal’s training ground reporting in for England this week (*I was told last night before I just saw it in the NoTW). I’d like to a be a fly on a wall there…

This is an issue that must be addressed with balance and intelligence. I want to see all players protected, but I don’t want to see the league lose it’s edge. Maybe the introduction of foreign refs would do the trick, perhaps we need proper retrospective punishments for challenges that are blatantly reckless or perhaps fairer analysis of thuggery in the main stream media. I don’t care what happens… something needs to be put forward now because at the moment, Premier League football seems to throw up more nasty injuries than motor sport or rugby.

Just a thought, how would the press react if Rooney was in hospital with a snapped leg?

Back to the team, I couldn’t be prouder to say I support Arsenal right now. Screw the balance sheet, this is what supporting your football team is all about… watching your team battle against the odds to turn in a fantastic result, give the fans the opportunity to connect with them. We showed grit, professionalism and maturity to win that match today. They’ve delivered an inspirational come back which could go down in folklore if we can deliver the league.

We’re in a title race, we’ve got more motivation than ever and as fans, we should all unite… this feels like its about more than just football now. Lets all put our differences behind us and all get behind the team… in ten games time, we could witness the most unlikely of trophy lifts… wouldn’t that be glorious?

Have a great day Grovers!

Ratings

Almunia: I thought he played well today. He made a couple of decent saves and there wasn’t much he could do for the goal. 7

Clichy: Still looking a liability to me. He was better going forward as the game wore on, defensively a little worrying. 6

Vermaelen: Top scoring defender in the league this year, played like a warrior, looked an emotional wreck after the goal. He brushed himself down and popped up as our fox in the box in the second half. 8

Sol: Again, took the challenge to heart and looked the most frustrated. Performed with gusto and helped lead the team through a painful incident. Probably one of those days where you’d prefer Sol in there to Gallas. Good defensive performance from our rock in reserve. 8

Sagna: I thought he played well bar some suspect attacking play 7

Cesc: It didn’t click for him in the first half but he still whipped an amazing cross to loan striker Nik B. He scored a penalty and set up the third. There is no denying Cesc is one of the best midfielders on the planet at the moment, today he delivered on the big stage in an important game. 9

Song: A very up and down game from him. He gave the ball away a lot in the first half and was part responsible for the first goal because he went out of his way to concede a throw. He grew in the second half and put himself about a bit more. 6

Rambo: Was having a blinder. He was winning balls in the air, driving forward with intent and he was doing his bit in the middle to mix it with the rough boys. I’m angry just writing about the challenge, but it was sickening to see the best talent in British football lose a year of his career. 8

Nik B: He was sloppy with his control in the first half, but he was a physical presence. His header was nothing short of world class in a big game where perhaps you wouldn’t expect many strikers to score a header. That set the ball rolling and in the second half he played very well. His deft flick led to the handball and the second goal. 8

Nasri: He tried really hard today but not much fell for him. 7

Eboue: Not his best game and more typical of the type of performance I’d associate with him up top. He did let off a rasping shot and his runs occasionally caused bother. Preferable to Theo. 6.5

  7. North Bank Lew says:

The look on the Verminator’s face said it all last night. My thoughts are with young Ramsey. Best of luck for the long haul back to football.

  8. Sheene7 says:

Tough 1 to take this 1 thoughts are with you Aaron get well soon

  9. Lou says:

A measured post I think. Pullis, Sky and a whole host of people will concentrate on the fact that he didn’t mean to hurt Ramsey. This argument is spurious and totally irrelevant because we will never know one way or the other. We may have a view but it will be conjecture and Saint Shawcross with his lovely family will never admit to anything other than he is a “smashing lad without an ounce of malice in him”. Debate as whether he did or didn’t mean it are avoiding the reality and that lies in a hospital bed this morning with a long period of recuperation ahead. I wish him all the very best. But Pullis and his sick attack on Wenger last night on MOTD really irritated me. AW made no attack on the character of Shawcross at all. He said he found the tackle(s) unacceptable. Pullis doesn’t agree. He finds it completely acceptable as do those lovely Stoke fans.

  10. Gunnersmith says:

i’m sorry to say this but why are you guys always picking on song the whole team was having a mare for the first 21 minutes and after which everybody pretty much uped their game including song. i think Vermaelen was to be blamed for the goal and not song have a good look at the replay he left shawcross unmarked and played Pugh in for the goal we will always concede a throw and blaming a player for kicking the ball to the byline when under pressure is just ridiculous

  11. SongtheGreat says:

    mornin all…

is it just me i really want to kill shawcross…then boil him and feed him to the pigs of stoke….pulis you fecker….get well Aaron…

  14. Thats 3 leg breaks in 4 years but alot of more close shaves from horrendous tackles by players that should even being playing football because they are so poor. When do use see Rio or Ledley King do tackles like that [they dont have as poor touch, read the game & position themselves in a place to pick the ball off opponents unlike that agriculture player].

  15. Jay20h says:

GET WELL SOON AARON, YOU ARE A STAR IN THE MAKING – YOU ARE A TOUGH LAD AND NO DOUBT YOU WILL BE BACK.

SHAWCROSS, HOPE YOU GET CRUNCHED ON ENGLAND DUTY.

  16. gooner-pak says:

and what did roy keane got when he said he had intentionally broken leg of some leeds player…

  17. gooner-pak says:

  18. wandarah says:

    it was unlucky, the tackle.

it was neither high, nor intentional. i suggest you watch it again.

  19. Fabgooner says:

Did Shawcross fracture Francis Jeffer too? I saw that on a forum, but I don’t know if it’s true.

  20. Jay20h says:

Oh and Pulis…. Fuck off. You are a nobody without any idea on how to play football.

Just hit and hope. Without Delap you would be in the championship.

  21. cashmoe says:

    Superb report Pedro.

One of your best, and as you say, today is a day to be proud to be a Gooner

  23. Gunnersmith says:

i’m sorry to say this but why are you guys always picking on song i’m not a song lover but the whole team was having a mare for the first 21 minute after which everybody pretty much uped their game including Song. I think Vermaelen was to be blamed for the first goal and not Song have a good look at the replays he let shawcross whom he’s suppose to be making get to the ball and played Pugh in for the goal we will always conceed a corner and to say a player was to be blamed for kicking the ball to the byline when under pressure is absolutely ridiculous
    just my opinion

  24. goonermichael says:

Pulis is a top class wamker. He said Wenger should keep his opinions of his players top himself even though Wenger had given any opinions on him. Talkshite are all a bunch of total cunts

  25. Jay20h says:

Was shocked at how bad cheslea were yesterday at the back. Ballack and Belleti off as well!?! Love that.

John terry had a horrible game too. Surprised bridge didnt knock him out, rather than just declining hand shake.

We are somehow back in a title race.

  26. Gunnersmith says:

    WTF!!

  27. afc53 says:

Aaron get well soon well done lads lets hope this galvanizes us spot on about Rooney

  28. goonermichael says:

I feel we’ll win the league now I really do. They could have crumbled but they stood up. We haven’t beat those cunts there for 28 years or something

  29. reggie 57 says:

Get well Rambo when you return a EPL winners medal beckons you!!

  30. gooner-pak says:

wenger was spot on when he said tht in press conference we are told that we can’t coup with physical side of game..
physical game does bring these result believe it or not and shawcross did received red card in previous matches didnt he??

  31. bnsb says:

and sky commentator said that ref gave red card after looking at injury it wasn’t red card tackle…screw you arseholes

have pointed out in earlier post. Shawcross burst into tears AFTER seeing referee red card him. The moron showed little remorse for his actions until he saw the consequence.

  32. nishanth says:

Pedro-That was the best post i have read in a long time.Emotional stuff

  33. gooner-pak says:

is there any update on ramsey..

  34. Pedro says:

Just a quick post before I go out.

Wandarah, a kid is sitting in hospital with a snapped leg… today is not the day for playing devils advocate and saying the tackle was ok…

GS, not sure why your comments keep getting moderated… your IP may have changed? Should be good now!

    Have a good morning Grovers!

  35. khalle says:

If I am not wrong here, I think Song is suspended for 2 games and this suspension is timely. He wil be out against Burnley and Hull, meaning he will be back for Birmingham away.

  36. khalle says:

I think the yellow card was similar to what Toure used to get at Arsenal. Just because you are a bloody johnny foreigner you shall be punished. If you see the replay, it is Delap who is pulling Song.

However, as I said before it is better he gets suspended for these two games.

  37. Mayank says:

    Great post!
Will the commentators finally change their stance on Arsenal not being up for the physical side? No chance. 2 months down the line, will they be saying things like ‘lacking that edge’ when talking about our 0 red card season if we fail to win the PL. You can bet on it.
I love the pace and power of the English game but thuggery is indeed as integral a part of it as those 2 and something must be done about it besides applauding it.

  38. angeausarsenal says:

Wishing you the best for a speedy recovery AAron

  39. gnarleygeorge9 says:

    Pedro

Inspiring post. But what is wrong with the general english attitude. Whenever Bridge went near the ball the chavs booed, him as if he was a culprit. And to sing those disgusting words about AR16 when he is down & out shows a sad state of mind for football following people.

To the people of Stoke, when members of your family lose their job, or are terminally sick, or can’t pay the bills, “should we sing stick that up your arse you nothern scum” Well, should we, ofcourse not.

  40. goonermichael says:

we should have had 3 pens in total.

  41. bnsb says:

I think Song is suspended for 2 games and this suspension is timely.

Untimely is the apt word, and why was he yellow carded on 27th of February? People have gotten away with much worse.

  42. Gooby says:

Good luck aaron i hope he can be back in 9-10 months
He’ll play next season i think And praying for it

  43. alex says:

    Emotionald Tribute to Ramsey

  44. goonermichael says:

    Gnarley
If there’s ever an earthquake in stoke I’ll be the first to be singing stick it up your arse you northern scum

  45. gnarleygeorge9 says:

I wonder what Geoff thinks about it all :)

  46. Gunnersmith says:

I think the card for song is a very very poor decision now he’ll be out for two games

  47. agirlagunner says:

We are all really heartbroken about Rambo. We do need more protection. It’s appalling how little of it we get.

When Stoke were at their “best”, the ball was up in the air it seemed, more than on the ground. Credit to our young men, who tried, and eventually succeeded in stamping their authority on the game. It is a testament to their quality and a firm commitment to our football philosophy that the beautiful game was attempted to be played even as the utter ugliness of that horror tackle was weighing on their minds.

A little harsh on the Clichy assessment though. I thought he was outstanding today. And gritty. The goal we let in was one which ought to have been guarded by Verma. And he was the one who approached Cesc after the final whistle; an action that preceded the huddle, right? Eboue, too, was trying to go forward, and he and Ramsey looked to have been getting on their groove before that game-turning 65th minute.

Come on you Gunners, the league is ours for the taking!
And anyone who doubts our mettle, our bottle, our desire can have it up theirs. We have

  48. AA23 says:

    Geoff
Surely you can see that stoke are practitioners of the English game?
Emotions are running high but we must all take stock and be honest.
    Arsenal were at fault yesterday.
We play too fast and “foreign” for true English sides to handle and we need to face up to that.
It’s not their fault. It’s our fault.
I’m starting a petition about how foreign managers and players are allowed to keep forcing English players to suffer the trauma of breaking their fellow pros legs.
Can you imagine how Ryan feels today? Or how embarrassed he was yesterday?
How do you think his mother felt as she had to drive him home?
Imagine how ashamed she was that her son not only didn’t have the talent to make it at Man u and ended up playing for stoke but then had to publicly face the blatant disrespect that Ramsey showed by being a much, much better player?
No wonder she got him out of there as quickly as she could, poor woman.
We are often quick to judge when we feel that inferior sides and players kick us around because they can’t cope with our skill but we need to also spare a thought for Ryan and his family today.
Arsenal are a bunch of whining cheats and the sooner we face up to that the sooner we can start to fix it.

  49. gnarleygeorge9 says:

    GM

  50. goonermichael says:

one of the stoke players stayed with him the whole time.

  51. sanjeev says:

things go wrong sometime to make other things right . Rambo injury was the one which ignited the arsenal team and it was all there to see . `m very impressed with sol . But the team should now play for rambo …give him wht he deserve …….we are all with you ..
get well soon tiger ( we need you )

  52. angeausarsenal says:

Watched Fever Pitch last night before the game.It almost blew me a way when Stoke V Arsenal came up as the first game in the movie.
Is it me or does it feel that the big wheels of The Universe are starting to turn the league our way.
now the team has even more to fight for and even more to prove.

  53. Gunnersmith says:

Oh jeez that looks very bad

  54. slimshady says:

Morning, all the best to Ramsey.

I thought Clichy had his best game in over a season – what with 2 good shots at Sorenson, and that moment he stole the ball of a Stoke player then turned him.

At least a 7.5. Ditto for Sicky.

  55. Meneurdejeu10 says:

This one was for the Welsh Wonder. Get well brother.
We dug deep and showed incredible bottle.

Fabregas will get the plaudits after being at the heart of the three goals. But Nik did well and put in a classic CF header. Eboue solid, if unspectacular.

But my MOTM was none other than Sol Campbell. He rolled up his sleeves and went into 2004 invincible mode on Stoke. Gallas would not have been able to do that. Sol earned himself a contract next year on merit. Sol will go to the World Cup on this form. Terry was struggling for form before his circus show.

It was significant for me that when Welsh Wonder Rambo went off, Le Prof turned to TommyGun and not Denilson. Hopefully he is realising that Denilson is not good enough at this level. Diaby, Gallas and Arshavin need to return.

After what Capello said for Walcott and JCole, looks like Theo will struggle to go to South Africa. WE WERE MORE COMPACT THAN USUAL AND THIS IS WHAT I WAS MOST PROUD OF. Theo is a luxury player at the moment, in the sense that he is occupying a position where defense is not expected. Just decisiveness and Match winning performances every four days now. He is not capable of this right now. I feel Arshavin, with a few weeks rest and no summer football, will return to being a Matchwinner for the next ten games.

He will dominate like the two footed genius that he is.

GUNNERS FOR THE LEAGUE…..It’s for u our Welsh Wonder

  56. innocent says:

Why are we always the target,Diaby,Eduardo now is Ramsey,Not forgetting my guy V.Persy.Ramsey, u are not alone in this trying time, all arsenal family is with u.We wish u quick recovery.

    AA23

    How true? :)

  58. cashmoe says:

now i dont want to sound like a c*nt but i guess we will go back to watching Denilson make a mess of our midfield hmmmmmm dis is bad !

  59. goonermichael says:

Diaby will be back soon cashmoe

  60. Nirmit says:

hey mate good post… i saw the match… and the team unity was awesome… we will win the league for RAMSEY…. Hope he gets well soon…

  61. wandarah says:

    hi pedro,

just because someone continues to live in reality, and not be drawn into emotional hyperbole – doesnt mean they’re playing ‘devils advocate’.

the tackle was unlucky, not intentional, malicious, or high.

  62. Neutral says:

To all Arsensal players – you guys please play to win for the rest of the season, not just for Ramsey, but for Diaby & Dudu who have suffered injuries through nasty challenges.

To all Stoke players – you guys please play like a professional footballers, not like street boys or like in a gangsters’ fight. Stop disgracing beatiful football game!

To the FA & all referees – Please make investigation about the incident. Please take constructive, positive & fair steps to tighten disciplinary actions against players & clubs who play unaccepatable physical games of such. Please stop allowing nasty incidents of such to go on…this is the third time…

  63. bnsb says:

Denilson was not on the bench yesterday, I am sure.

  64. angeausarsenal says:

guys a few weeks ago i got myself a shiny new gravatar.
Its the cover of The Clash’s “London Calling”
Here are the lyrics of the first verse.
We should be playing it before every game.

London calling to the faraway towns
Now war is declared – and battle come down
    London calling to the underworld
Come out of the cupboard, you boys and girls
London calling, now don’t look to us
Phoney Beatlemania has bitten the dust
London calling, see we ain’t got no swing
‘Cept for the ring of that truncheon thing

  65. Val46 says:

Rambo get well soon son you will be back and will be a legend…..well done to the boys yesterday so proud of the way they stood upto those northern monkeys, Sol you are a fucking legend! The way he celebrated the third goal was fucking fantastic welcome home SOL!!!!!! Also the huddle at the end……..so proud of the boys !!!! Fuck em all we are Arsenal!!

  66. gnarleygeorge9 says:

The Brum debarcle in 2008 has been laid to rest. 2008 was the one that got away, but 2010 will be the one we steal. its the ones you don’t really expect that are the sweetest, & its coming. We will win it now. Chamone!!!!!

  67. We dont buy into the crocodile cry after red card

  68. goonermichael says:

England coach Fabio Capello says John Terry will not regain the captaincy while he is in charge of the team.

Capello has morals I couldn’t imagine any English (or red nose alchy scotch) managers with those morals

  69. goonermichael says:

they do play London clling at every game

  70. Big Raddy says:

Diaby back before Denilson …. please

  71. goonermichael says:

BR Denilson should be ok in the next couple of games.

  72. cashmoe says:

y dont i agree with u wandarah its bcos if it wasnt high as u say it wudnt have broken a leg the ankle or th foot shud have been the broken part he did break a leg ! @ goonermicheal i cant wait for that !!

  73. goonermichael says:

The north is a shithole. I went there once

  74. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Someone should take Denilson out into the Yorkshire moors & leave him there till the season is over. We can’t afford him to be anywhere within sight of Le Gaffer now that Rambo is out

  75. angeausarsenal says:

Goonermichael :) then I’ll buy you a beer when I finally get there from Australia

  76. chozzer says:

    Great post Pedro.

  77. slimshady says:

The tackle was irresponsible, but honestly, do you really think he slid in aiming to maim Ramsey?? I don’t think so. Nice to see our Captain getting in a few mean yet intelligent challenges of his own! Sad though at the same time, that the EPL can’t be played in a better way.

  78. gnarleygeorge9 says:

G’Day chozzer, you said you went? It sounded good the old “Dirty Northern Bastards” ringing out.

He would have got his booking sooner or later and i would prefer him to be available against the Yids and the Midland scums.

  80. Big Raddy says:

GM. I don’t share the others concerns about Denilson. I think he is a fine player, but we miss Diaby.

I went UpNorth once as well. Did you know that “it is full of shit” :-)

  81. Big Raddy says:

Wandarah. The point Pedro makes is not about the intent of the tackle.

It is about supporting our own.

  82. Mr B says:

He’ll be back and raoring next year God willing. I think I’m gonna write him a letter and tell him to stay strong and that he’ll be back better than before.

People never mention keane when they talk of comming back from broken legs. I know he’s a manc but still shows u can do it if uve got the determination.

  83. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Where in the hell is Geoff?

  84. Gooby says:

    Aa- yeah london calling mate!!!!

  85. Meneurdejeu10 says:

AA23 is capable of of reaching standards great footballers dream of. He makes Chuck Norris look ordinary.

  86. Mr B says:

Slim shady what do u expect to happen if u swing a crowbar in someones general direction……. for them to end up feeling a little tickled.

  87. sol says:

    When is Diaby back??

  88. indian_gooner says:

    thoughts and prayers with ramsey
get well soon welsh wonder kid!

  89. Arse&Nose says:

I hope England get knocked out of the world cup.

I would be a hypocrite if I suddenly turned around and started a team made up of a bunch of cunts who I hate for most of the year.

You will struggle to name 5 decent characters in the England squad, they are now chav united.

  90. vijay says:

    For the record:

Clichy was much, much, better today. You must have been over-influenced by previous matches: 7/8

Ramsey was good. But not an 8.

Nasri keeps getting played on the left. He will always be at his best on the right.

Eboue makes an impact bringing the ball out from deep, or penetrating from midfield. His shot on goal was *this* close to being screamer of the month.

There shouldn’t be a doubt in the world that Shawcross intended to break Ramsey’s leg – he didn’t. But he was part of a system ‘minded’ to unnerve an Arsenal that is deemed to be ‘fragile for a fight’. In the same way as we’ve had penalty after penalty turned down since Celtic, there’s a ‘we’re only human after all’ psychology going on that only a statistical analysis will confirm. Arsenal don’t get penalties (unless sympathy prevails after an horrific injury) and Arsenal are the most fouled team in the Premiership.

  91. ritesh says:

Yep, thats more than just football now pedro

    Lets go for it.

  92. Micky Did It 89 says:

angeausarsenal and goonerM: please stop all this Clash talk. Righ now, makes me want to storm the north. If you ever make it here from Aus, the three of us should get together before a game. I have many great stories and memories of the boys.

  93. indian_gooner says:

    great post!

  94. wandarah says:

    big raddy,

    obviously i support our own.

the blog makes a big deal out of saying how evil the tackle was. when it wasnt.

    that’s all im syaing.

  95. ritesh says:

We will be without Song and Ramsey.

We are short of cover in midfield suddenly.

  96. Mr B says:

I agree that Wenger id being unfair sending kids out without protection.

cesc used to do the following because he knew the likes of PV4 and Lauren would have his back. Wenger has turned him into a pussy.

  97. indian_gooner says:

well said GG9, the ones you steal are indeed the sweetest
2008 was definitely the one that got away, hopefully 2010 is the one we steal :)

    great post btw!

  98. simon mcmahon says:

pedro top post , my thoughts exactly, the thinhg is stoke are realy a sunday league team with that type of mentality, and manged by a pub manger in puklis, sick to my soul today .
fed up with all the he’s not that type of person speil that comes out every time as a defence for a attack.
i made the same point yesterday to my mates , would the media be so supportive for these thugs(taylor, shawcross, whitehead,) if the recipient of that assault was rooney .
you bet your bottom dollar they wouldnt .

three game ban and the cunt gets picked for england,
    great….

  99. ritesh says:

Wandarah, look at the big picture mate.

3 against Arsenal, 3 Northern teams, away matches.

Their players coming out and saying before the matches they will be in em faces.

There is a fine line…. and it is crossed time and again.

  100. Micky Did It 89 says:

    Three great moments from yesterday:
    Sol and the boys celebration
    Cesc tackle on a northerner
Cesc gesture to the northern manager

  101. es says:

    Clichy was an 8.

  102. Arse&Nose says:

I don’t blame Shawcross, I blame the media and managers.

How can pulis say there was no malice. His players were in the press all week saying they will get stuck in and bully us!

He promotes this style of play, and the media and pundits condone it! They are all to blame.

  103. wandarah says:

    ritesh,

    i’m not denying that.

i’m just saying that the blog says it was a high, late tackle and implies it was malicious.

    when it clearly wasnt.

and that is all i’m saying.

  104. ritesh says:

One newspapers reported that Cesc tackled Shawcross earlier and he had dragged on for 65 minutes in the game before committing that foul.

  105. vijay says:

    For the record:

Clichy was much, much, better today. You must have been overinfluenced by previous matches: 7/8

Ramsey was good. But not an objective 8.

Nasri keeps getting played on the left. He will always be at his best on the right.

Eboue makes an impact bringing the ball out from deep, or penetrating from midfield. His shot on goal was *this* close to being screamer of the month.

There shouldn’t be a doubt in the world that Scawcross intended to break Ramsey’s leg – he didn’t. But he was part of a system ‘minded’ to unnerve an Arsenal that is deemed to be ‘fragile for a fight’. In the same way as we’ve had penalty after penalty turned down since Celtic, there’s this ‘we’re only human after all’ psychology going on that only a statistical analysis will confirm. Arsenal don’t get penalties (unless sympathy prevails after an horrific injury) and Arsenal are the most fouled team in the Premiership.

  106. slimshady says:

Lol Mr. B. I do hope Shawcross gets his nose busted playing for England. Certainly not a leg-break though, even if he’s a right c*nt.

How fantastic was Fab04 shushing the stoke gaffer??! Loved it!

  107. angeausarsenal says:

Micky you’re on, that is such a killer battle cry

  108. ritesh says:

If you look at the background Wandarah, it was unintended malice ;-)

  109. Mr B says:

wandrah then how if it wasnt high did he end up snaping his leg down the middle.

I mean is that what u do when u tackle aim for the top of a guys shin pad. Wanker!

  110. Mr B says:

Sorry I take the last bit back. :)

  111. Arse&Nose says:

    slim-

Rob green was on radio5 calling cesc a disgrace, saying he is a spoilt kid and that wenger has no class because he teaches his kids to have no respect.

Can you fucking believe some people!?

  112. ritesh says:

Cesc is a disgrace….. Please Cesc, make him say that everytime we are there up north. ;-)

  113. wandarah says:

    mr b,

you may be surprised to learn that where it broke, was where the ball was just milliseconds before.

  114. bnsb says:

    A&N

I think that is called systematic disinformation, gullible enough start believing that.

  115. Meneurdejeu10 says:

Any chance we’ll see TV in MF if push comes to shove?

    Al

    Sagna Gallas Campbell Clichy

    Song TV

    Diaby Fabregas Arshavin

    Nik

  116. angeausarsenal says:

Sorry wanderah you are wrong on 2 counts.
Definately high above the height of the ball, obviously late otherwise he would’ve got the ball.
malicious maybe not but reckless, thuggish and part of a systematic approach to kick our players into submission.

  117. wandarah says:

please dont think i’m condoning it – but shawcross isnt to blame here.

the media, the managers, and the perpetual myth that you can kick arsenal are to blame.

  118. Arse&Nose says:

    bnsb?

  119. wandarah says:

    angeauarsenal,

i can’t really argue with someone who i assume has watched the tackle again and again – and seems to see something entirely different than i do.

  120. simon mcmahon says:

c’mon for fucks sake we all know that all these pub mangers
    puklis,
    fat sam,
    hughes,
    brown ,and what their about.
how many manure , liverpool, chavs players in the last four years have been victims of these attacks.

Their team talks are full of “get stuck in and get in their faces ,
This is reported in their comments in the red tops.
The press should also be responsible for whats being said, sky pudits like gray, and keys are pathetic.

  121. ne1 saw bolton play????how did Jack Wilshere play

  122. angeausarsenal says:

Ive seen it twice, the only thing that “seems” to be entirely different is the way you see it compared to the majority of rightminded people on here.

  123. bnsb says:

    A&N

They try to draw away peoples anger on a particular incident by planting a lie and repeating it over and over again. In this case Cesc Fab does not respect Pulis (remember story about Fab spitting at Phil Brown)

  124. choy says:

    Morning all

    Wandarah.. please shut up.

Tell Ramsey who won’t be playing a year or so that there was no intent.

  125. leon says:

i dont feel sorry this showcroft at all it may not have been intentional but it was high it reckless and very dangerious and the fact is it very rare you see top defenders make that kind of tackle evon cesc got injured with the alonso tackle that was a 50-50 it nothing like this, and worst thing about ramsey career could be over and all this player gets is 3 match ban in my view that is not acceptable. can only hope ramsey is back some time next season.

on positive note i was very suprised by how well this team stood up to the phsical battle i have said so may times that without song or daiby this team no presence but i was proven wrong and showed a real team spirit fight and mental toughness.

  126. wandarah says:

    angausarsenal,

    cool story bro.

  127. Arse&Nose says:

    bnsb, agree 100%
people who do that make me more angry than muppets like taylor and shawcross.

These basterds are the ones who create this myth that Arsenal should be kicked to be beaten. Rob green is a disgusting human being, he clearly hates wenger and cesc, i remember him leading the calls for Cesc to be banned after the Hull incident.

  128. bnsb says:

Jack Wilshere played well, he had some very good assists that went waste.

  129. wandarah says:

    choy,

    don’t be ridiculous.

  130. reggie 57 says:

Fucking right why should cesc respect a thug manager like pullis who’s sole objective is to physically bully teams off the pitch fuck him!!!

  131. Big Raddy says:

    Karthik

JW started poorly and looked out of his depth, being over elaborate and going for showboat passes, but midway through the first half he started to impose himself upon the game.

Throughout the second half he was head and shoulders the best midfielder on the pitch. His speed of passing and ability to create space to receive a pass was outstanding, plus he likes a tackle

He was withdrawn after about 75 mins and received a standing ovation !

  132. Confidentgoner says:

    Pedro,
Am not sure about your eague table. Please recheck!

Now my comments on the match.

I still think we are not making use of the width of the pitch well enough. We play too narrow and against teams that defend well, we find them too difficult to break down. Bringing Theo Walcot did not help our game in any way. Rosicky was super. Would have still kept Eboue in there. We need to see Eastmond and Daiby more, now that Song is out for 2 games.

  133. es says:

It’s time for Arsenal to bring in the lawyers. If Arsenal have been on the negative end of a five-year kicking then it can be proved statistically.

  134. angeausarsenal says:

Wanderah, show some respect, if I was your bro I would’ve necked myself a long time ago

  135. choy says:

Did Theo even touch the ball?

  136. bnsb says:

I think I just had a brilliant idea. How about Loaning Denilson to Stoke for a year?

  137. ritesh says:

    Wandarah…..goodbye!

  138. nishanth says:

It seems there is more sympathy for shawcross who cried than ramsey who broke his fucking leg!!!!

  139. simon mcmahon says:

the other point i’d like to raise is if its an obvious red card for a disgusting tackle like that ,the ones like shawcross should recieve a 10 game ban , and should never be able tp play for england during that period.
he was crying such a shame a bet when he joins up with england next week he wont give a fuck for rambo then.
wankers like pullis should have to deal with this with their teams see how understanding they are then .
cesc i loved that shut up comment he made to puklis,
and i watched the highlights on motd, cant belive the clear penalty on bendtner(the push over in the box was not shown ,really poor.

  140. 0.9 Calibre says:

Good post (and thank God, no crappy Boom today!).. To say that the tackle was not intentional and malicious is just being naive.. Few guys who thought that the tackle had no malice in it suggested the forum to watch the replays.. well, pls do.. the challenge was so so late.. Shawcross had all the time to take the momentum off his feet.. if you watch closely Ramsey has already kicked the ball a coupla yards ahead so one cant suggest that Ramsey’s own momentum could have caused that impact.. It was shin on shin and very very late.. the intent to hurt was there.. there was malice.. If you guys suggest that there was no intent then it means that Shawcross wasnt looking at the ball at all.. thats totally reckless and as a footballer Shawcross’ mind would have evaluated the most possible outcome.. whether he meant to break the leg cant be quantitatively defined but it was a rank bad challenge.. and this happens to a 19 yr old kid who just wanted to play football.. I hope his age helps him recover fully.. thoughts are with him get well soon Ramsey… This has definitely galvanised the team and unlike 2008 they wont crumble this time.. twas great to see the Chavs drop points.. we can put ourselves in a good position in May but we have to beat everyone along this fabulous run-in and I believe this team has the courage and mentality to do just that..

  141. bnsb says:

Stoke pitch is narrower than mind of Pulis.

  142. ritesh says:

    Confident,

Eboue was by the side of Rambo after the injury and he was clearly affected. He had to be withdrawn.

  143. Arse&Nose says:

One of the most disgusting things about this incident and the Eduardo break was the reaction of the opposition manager.

In both cases one would have thought it would be best to keep quiet and send best wishes and an appology.

In both cases we got a biography of the aggressor(shawcross/taylor) and how they are nice guys!It absolutely sickens me that they stoop so low in a time of despair to score browning points with the media.

  144. Meneurdejeu10 says:

Sol Campbell organized our defence and led the troops.
McSulk Gallas could learn a thing or two. TV look comfortable having a leader beside him.

  145. ManGoonian says:

FFS! Way over the top wioth the criticisms here…. I dont think Sagna was at fault for their goal and Song did not have a shocker…. But its all immamterial as we all I can think about is poor Aaaron and the fact we have lost yet another player for months because of a “fully committed English challenge” and our thoughts should be with the poor victim here, yep, the breoken hearted nice as pie, never hurt a butterfly Shawcross… And his not at all cunt of a manager, Pulis…

Please God Ramsey’s injury is not career threatening…

  146. nishanth says:

After a lively start against Stoke City, however, Jeffers was on the end of a late tackle from Ryan Shawcross and was stretchered off with damaged ligaments

    He really is a saint

  147. reggie 57 says:

The whore got tackled by shawcross when he was off the pitch!!

  148. ManGoonian says:

    Arse&Nose;

The managerrs send out their players to get in our faces and let em know the opposition are in a game, they fire em up and say its all part of the game and to get stuck in and other such cliched sneanderthal bollocks…

McCleish and Pulis are dinosaurs and should be extint…

  149. ManGoonian says:

As someone said last night, wasnt it Shawcross who injured Ade when Ade was not even on the pitch??? He did him from behind…

  150. simon mcmahon says:

    a/n thats a great point ,
it’s the society we live in that the people who commit these assaults, then get people coming out saying that their misunderstood and are really not that bad, a victim of their circumstances .
fuck off i’m sick of this bullshit,
sorry i hope somebody does shawcross in and he feels as shit as rambo will be,
footnote to the stoke scum fans who sang those disgusting songs you have now joined an evergrowing collective group of scum,
like the b/ham fans who sang about edu, and the chav fans yesterday who booed wayne bridge and Terry,
    CONGRATULATIONS…

  151. ManGoonian says:

    Meneurdejeu10

Who the fuck is McSulk? If you are referring to Gallas, then fuck off…. he has been magnificent this season…

  152. nishanth says:

Where is graham poll now?Usuaully the first one to come out when something like this happens..oh wait an arsenal player got injured!!!

  153. SUGA3 says:

    good read Pedro ;)

I think people who ‘tackle’ like Shawcross should not play at the level where people are that quick, simple as, just like some people cannot drive at high speeds – not quick/intelligent/skilled enough…

  154. Arse&Nose says:

Yes it was, the ball was out of play and he slid in from behind to rupture Ade’s ligaments. The ref couldnt do anything about it because it took place off the pitch …well that was the excuse banded about anyway.

Shawcross has previous, no one can convince me now that he is a nice guy.

  155. ritesh says:

    Ahhh, the EPL!

The country where football was invented ;-) They would know better that the rest of the World.

  156. ritesh says:

Arse&Nose, The ref can caution you even if you misbehave in the dressing room at half time

  157. nishanth says:

Do you guys remember noble’s tackle on hleb? And he only got a yellow card for that

  158. PDT says:

    Good morning!

Terrible day for AFC! To have to watch one of our brightest young kids have his leg snapped in two by a challenge which would never have been attempted in any other league in the world is terrible.

This is not the first time it has happened. It isn’t even the second time it has happened. Its the THIRD time!!

And it always happens to us! Not to the Mancs, not to the chavs, not to anyone else but us!

You know why? Because all the damn pundits and all the damn papers are saying “Arsenal are easy game away. All you gotta do is kick them”. This has been repeated ad nauseaum and now, every team which knows they cant beat us play to injure us.

It’s time for us fans to get up and do something. We have to write to the papers, we have to write to the FA and we have to get the banners out at the Grove that this has to stop. The bindippers had their Hillsborough disaster, the mancs have their air crash. This is our tragedy and we must get up and demonstrate that this is our tragedy!

We have all these “armies” of “fans” who get up and support Le Boss when he screws up. I want to see these fans get up and denounce these tactics, take the battle to the papers and to away games and show that we will not be quiet and let the damn media tell everyone to kick us.

Ramsey is one of the most promising kids in the UK. The EPL took him in and may have killed his career through slack and liberal officiating. This could never happen in any other league in the world!!

If we fans don’t do anything, no one will and we will have our kids butchered by the Taylors and the Shawcrosses every year!

  159. Arse&Nose says:

simon, you are right it is a social problem.

We live in a blame free society. NO WIN NO FEE solicitors make a mint.

No one in modern day England wants to take responsibility for their actions. A kid becomes a drug dealer and you hear about his hard upbringing, a kid gets done for stabbing and you hear about him coming from a single parent family.

Why does their have to be an excuse for everyone?

What happened to taking responsibility, what happened to standing up and saying -he did the damage, and its his fault and he is sorry!?

  160. Yavor says:

Get those Barbarian teams OUT of the Premier League! And better sooner than later!

  161. ManGoonian says:

I said this yesterday and I still believe it…. English football HAS to allow this over aggressive retro physical game as there are not enough English players with the technique of the likes of =Cesc, Torres, Ronaldo, effin Zoltan Gera FFS! How many times do the commentators go on and on and about how Arsenal laxk that British grit??? Bull fucking shite…. Still sooooo effin angry about what has happened to Aaron….

  162. leon says:

it goes to show that tackling is a skill and you will find that best footballers dont make those kind of tackles,i have never seen terry, lambard,or essian, gallas, verm, evans or rio or anythe top defenders make such a tackle and sorry i dont care what nice guy showcross is he broke players leg

  163. ritesh says:

    Yep Nishant…

I think Hleb left because of all these tackles in the end. People like Cesc might move on too. When you can become the best midfielder on the planet, why would you take unnecessary risks of career threatening injuries abroad.

He would be more protected in Spain and I would understand and wish him well if he goes. I also understand why Eboue goes to ground easily. He’s seen all the three incidents, he deserves protection or he will not go into the challenge.

  164. PDT says:

Doublegooner, if you are around, I know you are one supporter who carries signs to the Emorates. What can we do and what can we keep doing for the next year, so the refs who officiate at our games see the signs and think about it? We need to put pressure on the officials!

  165. bnsb says:

The football association gets over a billion pounds from Sky. Football association guys would lick their shoes for that kind of money.

  166. Confidentgoner says:

I like the idea of bring in Rosicky and Eddy into play as subs. He should bring them before 60 mins, to enable us change games. theo should only be brought in like the 80th min, to run at defenders.

I think we need Eboue in this team more than we realise. He is the only direct player we have in the squad, but yes he’s got little end product but its the manager’s job to manage that. I hope he plays against Porto, we really need him. Him and Sagna!

  167. simon mcmahon says:

Well we all know that tommorow we will be listening to talkshite, and others going on about poor old ryan shawcross and how upset he is.
well fuck them and him, why dont the bring out the tackle off the pitch on the whore from the same player last year, from the sky archives bet if one of ours made it youd be seeing it again and again remember willy g against bolton this year they tried to get him baned by the fa, constantly showing it and getting ex ref’s to review it again and again .

I really hope that the team goes on a massive run now if we can get 15 points from the next 5 , I reaLly think we can do WOW.

  168. Arse&Nose says:

English football is at a cross roads. The FA will have to decide whether to stick with the traditional route or modernise.

All of the best players in the world will be playing in la liga because the premier league can no longer afford to pay them higher wages. Top players don’t get protection in England and this is another reason that they will flee.

  169. nishanth says:

If that had happened against chelsea or manchester steven taylor would have got sent off

  170. ManGoonian says:

Last season Pulis sent his team out to maim and innjure our players, Ade and Theo were crocked due to their actions. This season, Shawcross has out done even him self and will preobably get a bonus from that neanderthal cunt of a manager…

Stoke is a shit hole, run by a cunt, supported by inbred retards…

  171. PDT says:

Screw the EPL and screw “English” grit! There is no “beautiful game” left in the EPL!

All we have are the Taylors and Terrys and Shawcrosses!

Plus the Pulis and the Fat Sams to fan the flames!

  172. ritesh says:

I remember writing something similar after Eduardo PDT. Nothing happened.

Actually, the club should do something about it. If that happened to Chelsea, Abramovich team of lawyers would be all over them.

If Usmanov was our Chairman, he would smash their face if they did anything like that to one of his players.

But we have PHW, the Custodian and guardian of our traditions ;-)

  173. Mayank says:

Spot on Man G, according to me there might well be technically gifted players out there the the playing field is tilted in the direction of the more thuggish types. Basically anyone with an ‘Old fashioned typical English ‘ tag is almost bound to be a talentless player.

  174. Rocky7 says:

Good result, bad injury….. And it means we will see more of denilshite… Rambo will fight more battles, just like his cinematic namesake.

    Up the gunners !

  175. nishanth says:

All of a sudden it is our fault that we play nice quick football. How many barca players get injured in la liga?

  176. choy says:

The FA have to do something.

The best players in the world will never come to this league otherwise.

  177. ManGoonian says:

    Arse& Nose;

We all know the only way for anything to change will be for the FA and Premier league (and Sky of course) to feel it in their pockets… Unless revenue drops, big name players decide to ply their trade elsewhere, attendances diminish and marketin g streams to dry up, only then will they even contemplate doing anything to rid the English game of this old school, kick em up in the air mind set…

  178. nishanth says:

Is there any update on ramsey’s injury?

  179. ManGoonian says:

    Mayank;

Being a fully committed (average) and gritty (shite) English player is all you need to be given the freedom to foul and kick opposition players…

    How many times do we hear the pundits say;

“Oh well, there was no malice in that 2 footed lunge there, it was a fully committed tackle…”

  180. PDT says:

Ritesh. the AST have marched up and down the hill supporting the great Arsene Wenger. I want to see if they will show any solidarity to the lad in hospital.

  181. ritesh says:

Its a long process to reverse this…will take maybe 20 years.

I will concentrate more on watching Braca… A pity I write very little Spanish. But from what I read on their blogs, you cant do something like that to their team…You will have 100,000 people waving white hankies at the refs every week if it were to happen.

And thats where it can threaten to hurt their pockets!

  182. nishanth says:

And what the fuck does a honest tackle mean?

  183. ritesh says:

They Should PDT…. They really should. Otherwise, why make an association of fans.

And I hope they are not alone.

Time to take stock, there has been a lot of slating on here towards OUR team over the season.Look where we are now the boys are growing into men.Yet every time we pick ourselves up we get hit again,RVP Gibbs and now Rambo. What an immense response from the players. Can’t wait for the next game we will sing from the rafters for Rambo.Who wants to join me as i may have two spare tickets.

  185. ManGoonian says:

How can these poor, talentless English players be expected to keep up with their dirty techniquely superior opponents???

  186. Arse&Nose says:

    Mang, that is the problem.

It is in their interests to promote English players and condone the rough tough side of football.

What would really hurt the press is if Wenger stopped talking to them. He should have left the game and said no comment, and not talked to any of them for the rest of the season- that would shock them into having more respect for Arsenal.

Notice how when Fergie bans reporters they write stories about how great man united are?

  187. leon says:

nish i think he had have surgery will be out at least a few months but most likely a year if not more but fa need to do something 3match ban for that is realy fair punishment

  188. ritesh says:

AST whould organise protests in front of Sky and BBC

  189. ManGoonian says:

    paul;

I am gonna be there too mate….. I hope the whole crowd get up for this one…. We can do our bit to get us to that title and do it for Aaron….

  190. SongtheGreat says:

wandarah you feck..why dont you just feck off,,,,,get youre kicks somewhere else…shithead

  191. ritesh says:

    A&N

I agree with you on that. Wenger is too civilised.

  192. nishanth says:

Also credit really must go to wenger for signing campbell. It is turning out be a really good signing.Absolutely loved the way he celebrated the thrd goal.I hope he stays for another year

  193. Arse&Nose says:

Sol has been Man of the match in every single game he has played recently.

Superb signing, great attitude from Sol-he really has won us all over.

  194. Mayank says:

Funnily enough the only thing these players have picked up from the foreign influence is diving. To the extent that they do it better than anyone else in the world.

  195. nishanth says:

    sol is a gooner!!

  196. Arse&Nose says:

By the way I dont think anyone has mentioned a major positive from yesterday- Cesc.

An unbelievable captains performance, the type we have been waiting to see since Villa.

  197. paul says:

Song it’s an opinion no need for the childish insults. You did this yesterday.

  198. ManGoonian says:

    Paul;

I thinki we should definitely get behind the team more now than ever… There has been too much slating of individual players as well as the manager, yet we are 3 points behind the chavs! The players did us proud yesterday after that horrific challenge and now its time for us to do likewise…

  199. paul says:

Nisanth how good is the Sol signing looking.

  200. SongtheGreat says:

someone still thinks shawcross tackle was just….morons…he cant play, so he, like the rest of his no talented team and the disgrace of a manager punk(is)resort to killing off opposition..no my dear shawcross i hope you rot in hell….the sooner the better….what a shame on football you are…

  201. SongtheGreat says:

Paul let me make it clear….feck you asshole

  202. paul says:

Man i make you right i am so pumped up for next week

  203. ManGoonian says:

Sol has been great for us and I truely felt he would do us proud…. His celebrations after the 3rd goal was what being committed and full of grit is all about! Not maiming other players.

Cesc was awesome too and his post match interview impressed me loads…

Vermealen’s celebrations right in front of us was top too…

  204. paul says:

Song does it make you feel hard typing insuls from your keyboard.

  205. nishanth says:

Hopefully arshavin, gallas and diaby will be back really fresh

  206. ritesh says:

Last week in one of Pedro’s blog, I said teams will resort to unorthodox means to stop us.

    We saw it.

The thing now is that Refs will not be inclined to give us fouls or pens for the remaining games. It happened after the Eduardo incident.

If the refs were OK that time, we would have won the league that year. They collaborated to make sure we lost… those good gentlemen.

  207. SongtheGreat says:

what is it you dont understand paulis….im not very interested in chattin with half ass fans like you..so i tell you very nicely sissy…bugger off….

  208. nishanth says:

MG-I envy you..Must have been terrific to see us win it in the end except for the ramsey injury

  209. paul says:

I am not sure if Stoke still have the same policy but a few years ago they would not sign any player under 6ft 1inch

  210. ManGoonian says:

    Mayank;

Hahaha! That is soooo true, the English are the world champions of diving now…. it does help that the English media never comment on the diving of Rooney, Gerrard and co though! I am English and always look forward to watching us at the world cup and am always full of hope that we win the dam thing…. Noit this time, I am rooting for Holland and Spain and, well, anyone apart from England…

  211. ritesh says:

    Cesc had attitude yesterday….

Thats what we need…he picked himself up after the tackle and showed the way by his determination and desire…He more than compensated for his lack of physical presence with his desire.

That’s what we expect from a captain. Great stuff.

  212. SongtheGreat says:

    agree nishanth…and well we showed some steel yesterday…lets hope diaby’s back…soon….and Arshavin too *the russian assasin*….we might just nick it..;

  213. Raz says:

I was disgusted yesterday with a lot of the tackles on arsenal players and its was only a matter of time until one of them caused some serious damage. This has been the choosen way to play arsenal by many teams this season and its only beacause they have no chance against us if they tried to play football the way it was intended to be played. Lets not forget also, its A NON-CONTACT SPORT.

SHAME on any one who condones these tactics. Dont be mistaken there will be more to come during the remaining games but lets take some comfort from the fact arsenal used thier anger in a proffesional manner and ended the game 3-1 unlike the brum game.
This is another test of our title credentials and we passed unlike chelsea who fell apart when things wern’t going thier way, haha.

Arsenal know how to deal with this. We’ve already seen edu come back from a similar injury. I WISH arron a quick recovery.

    Gooner4Life

  214. paul says:

Now Shawcross has been selected for England be prepared for the Red card to be taken off.

  215. ritesh says:

We will be short in midfield with Song out for the next 2 games.

  216. ManGoonian says:

    nish;

It was very emotional mate…. I was sickened and sad for Ramsey, then it was electric at the end man….. Truly awesome… The players did it for Aaaron, they didk not buckle and are more together than ever…. This horrible, terrible incident may well be the catalyst for us to go on and win…

The Stoke fans were scum BTW…. But they know they are!!!

  217. nishanth says:

Songthegreat-Yeah this break would have really helped them. And it hasn’t cost us yet except for maybe the porto game.Hopefully arshavin’s right foot is slightly better now.It will be an interesting choice between gallas and campbell though.Campbeel easily handled the likes of fuller and sidibie yesterday and that is not something which gallas cannot offer.

  218. paul says:

Le Champ should be our away support they have been brilliant

  219. ritesh says:

I hope we dont slate RAmbo when he has average matches on his return like many did for Eduardo :-(

  220. nishanth says:

I can imagine MG..I am sure the players are all fired up.I just hope we don’t lose any player during this useless international break

  221. REDORDEAD says:

    QUOTE FROM STOKE SCUM
The Britannia, it’s like a fortress, and if we do play to our strengths I don’t think Arsenal can deal with the aggressive play.

It’s been proved in the past that Chelsea and Bolton have roughed them up and tried to bully them.

We can also be rough and aggressive when we need to, but we have quality too, and so we can mix it up.

  222. nishanth says:

Soo many contenders for le chump.Tony pulis, stoke, shawcross, media, martin o’neil etc.

  223. Geoff says:

Morning all, I played football for 15 years at a reasonable level, I never broke anyones leg. Also, I do wonder about the effectiveness of shin pads, if they don’t work, why have them, maybe they should spend as much time on them as they do football and boot development.

  224. big dave says:

The stoke manager can fuck off, You listen to the radio and it’s unreal you think it is all our fault.

    Get well Aaron

  225. ManGoonian says:

Just seen that Ridgewell challenge again too…. Fucking disgusting but seemingly fair tackle…. Cunt

  226. nishanth says:

Everyone knew straight away what had happened. The referee [Peter Walton] said it wasn’t meant, but because of the injury he had to send Ryan off.”

This is exactly the problem.Players have to suffer horrific injury for cunts like walton to send thugs like shawcross, taylor, nolan etc off

  227. gambon says:

    Great post Pedro,

I have never been so proud of this Arsenal side. That may have been a turning point for the team as a whole, they have finally been able to go and get the points in a very tough game. 2 years ago we fell apart when this happens, this time it will drive us on to the title, i genuinely believe that.

I dont want to dwell too much on the Ramsey/Shawcross incident, but as someone that has broken a collarbone & leg playing 6 & 4 years ago, and ruptured my ACL in almost identical circumstances to Rambos injury, i will say it was far from the worst challenge ive seen. Sometimes its luck of the draw who breaks a bone and who doesnt, we just seem to be on the recieving end of bad luck in the last few years.

There needs to be a punishment, but it needs to cover bad tackles, not just the ones where someone breaks a bone. 10 game ban & a months wages seems right to me.

Rambo is a tough kid, he’ll be back from this next season.

  228. gambon says:

Geoff, shinpads do work, but remember what happened yesterday was the equivalent of Rambo running full speed and kicking a metal bar with his shin.

One of them was gonna break a leg in that scenario, even with titanium shinpads.

  229. gambon says:

Liverpool have signed that Raheem Sterling from QPR, who we were supposedly interested in.

  230. SongtheGreat says:

just like Eduardo is back Gambon ???

  231. Arse&Nose says:

Geoff, as a fellow player would you agree with me that when you go in for a dangerous tackle you know for a split second that it could end badly.

I was trying to argue this case yesterday, I think this ‘no malice’ thing is a myth. Every player I know agrees that you know when you are going in tough and it could hurt someone.

  232. Arse&Nose says:

Goals on Sunday talking about the tackle just now. All in agreement that its nobody’s fault because “Arsenal are too quick”.

  233. gambon says:

    STG

Although i dont think we know the exact nature of Rambos injury just yet, Eduardos injury was more than likely far worse. Serious ankle injuries are only behind knee injuries in terms of career ending.

It looked to me like a clean break of the fibia, which would be as good as it can get, in a weird way.

  234. gambon says:

    *tibia

  235. ManGoonian says:

Yep, pesky Arsenal and their too quick players are to blame. How can the likes of Shacross possibly keep up with them?

  236. Jonathan says:

Hey mates, couldn’t help but wonder how Rambo’s doing now. Bet he’s in pain, undergoing surgery and all. Damn!

I’ve had a fractured and displaced clavicle once; and that in itself hurt like hell. Can only empathise with what Rambo’s goin’ through…

  237. SongtheGreat says:

Gambon ..wishful thinking mate…its isnt really the injury, its the psychological affect it has on the player….Ramsey will never be the same again ..much like Eduardo never will…i hope to God im wrong..

  238. Geoff says:

It was definitely Tibia and Fibula, but not ankle damage, the trouble would be that it may have been compound, which is a big dent, this can be sorted with bone grafts though and a clean break should not take that long.

    Maybe 6 months.

Eduardo’s injury broke the skin and smashed the ankle ligaments, much, much worse.

I’m no expert in this, though having just broke more than twenty bones, I am an expert in recovery.

  239. gambon says:

    STG

Ian Wright broke his leg 3 times and it never changed him.

Djibril Cisse has broken both his legs, and Diaby suffered a far more dangerous injury.

Hopefully Ramsey will do what Cisse did and be back in 5 months.

  240. Jonathan says:

Geoff, you’ve had plenty of broken/fractured bones before? Umm, yikes?

  241. ManGoonian says:

    SongTheGreat;

Jezzzzus fella! You are forever thinkin the worse man….

  242. B.B.K. says:

We’re in a title race, we’ve got more motivation than ever and as fans, we should all unite… this feels like its about more than just football now. Lets all put our differences behind us and all get behind the team… in ten games time, we could witness the most unlikely of trophy lifts… wouldn’t that be glorious?…..I AGREE

  243. gambon says:

    20 bones = clumsy! :-)

  244. gambon says:

    ManG

Its come to something when im providing the optimism eh? :-)

  245. ManGoonian says:

    Gambon;

Hahaha! Well, lookm at BBK!!! Even he is feeling it mate!!!

Nice one BBK! Lets get behind the lads, lets do it for Ramsey!!!

    Come on Arsenal!!!

  246. Geoff says:

It was one injury, on my way back from watching the Athletico Madrid game and Pedro text me we had sold Senderos, in my rush back I turned into my drive in my buggy too fast, torpedoed out and landed awkwardly, broke 11 ribs, punctured my lung and broke my wrist in 8 places.

I got up, went on the internet, got some beer and watched the game on Sky again, the next day I went to hospital.

That was in August, I was back on the course 5 weeks later but my golf was shit, I’m as good as new now though.

  247. SongtheGreat says:

well Mangoonian you couldnt really saythat eduardo is back at his best now..can you….and how long has it taken Diaby to start to show that he might be back..and one other thing how many injuries have those two had,..in recovery…look at Rosicky…once a crock always a crock im afraid..me i just want to feckin kill shawcross…..and just maybe pulis the ape too..and then…ill better stop…im so feckin angry…

  248. SongtheGreat says:

    so Geoff you aint a crock then ;

  249. gambon says:

Breaking your leg and being a crock are 2 very different things.

The injuries that keep on recurring are ankles, knees, ligament & tendon problems. This shouldnt affect Aaron.

  250. Arse&Nose says:

gambon, you forgot to mention the psychological impact of injuries.

Some players never get back to playing the same way, I just hope it doesn’t effect Ramseys game because he was due to be one of europes brightest talents.

  251. skins says:

What game were you watching, Eboue and Fabregas were our best players, Clichy was not far behind. Ratings for Clichy and Eboue should be much higher.

  252. Truth says:

G’day all. Pedro, Brilliant post mate. As expected all the talk this morning is about the aggressor, and not the victim. I listened to Talkshite this morning, and some of the comments have left me even more angry than I was yesterday. Apparently, ‘Aaron moved the ball too quickly’, ‘His legs was planted and broke before Shawcross made contact’, and ‘if he [Shawcross] had wanted to really hurt Ramsey, he would have gone in much higher up’. You really couldn’t make it up! And, Arsene is of the biggest hypocrite as he failed to condemn Gallas’s late challenge when we last played B’ton.

  253. B.B.K. says:

yeah m.g that was emotional yesterday, lets do it for rambo and ourselves…..c’mon you gunners……

  254. Jonathan says:

I feel ya Geoff. But how the hell did you put up with all that pain and your messed up state whilst doing all that you did and only had yourself admitted to a hospital the NEXT DAY?? Your zeal for football certainly surpasses a lot of what I see these days.

BBK and Mangon, spot on mates. Let the optimism and Arsenal camaraderie overflow and show the rest of the Premier League how menacing a team we can be!

  255. Truth says:

    *course*

  256. Geoff says:

Jonathan, I was more embarrassed than hurt! Also I had had a few pints and felt no pain.

And I wanted to see the amazing Arshavin goals again!

  257. jlp says:

    Afternoon all,
    Any new news on Aaron?
I would think Arsenal by this time have gotten the full extent of the injury but still no word???
I’m not entirely sure why they would assume gooners wouldn’t be waiting around to find out the full diagnosis…kinda bullshit really.

I had almost the same type of break near as i can tell (similar tackle in the same area of the leg anyway) around middle of june but I was up playing competitive hockey by the late fall. 5.5 months in total
Hope for a clean break.Fingers crossed.
I cringe every time I think of what happened last night but then I am kind of a pus when it comes to this shit.
Fuck Pulis for green lighting their ‘get stuck in’ bullshit. The fucking ape needs a suspension as well.
Anyways my heart goes out to Aaron and the players.

  258. treze13 says:

hey guys, LOVED the spirit shown yesterday, thoughts are with ramsey, have never been so moved emotionally by football (apart from when we lost f.a cup to liverpool, i may have cried but i was like 11 so yeah)
are there any tickets going for the burnley game? i’d love to be there, let me know if there is please :)

  259. big dave says:

No silvestre or denilson on the pitch yesterday thank god.

Eastmond to come in for nxt 2 games while song is out

  260. Billy says:

Ryan Shawcross is the same person who broke Francis Jeffers’s ankle with a tackle from behind in 2007. He nearly broke Adebayor’s ankle when he wasn’t even on the pitch in our match with them last year and nearly broke Cesc’s foot in the cup match a couple of months ago.
He’s a thug and went into that tackle recklessly high and with completely unnecessary force. He had one aim and that was to get the ball but hit Aaron as hard as he could in doing so. He may not have necessarily wanted to break his leg but he certainly wanted to leave his “mark”.
He’s a disgusting individual but once again its not his fault cause he loves his mum, has no previous and wouldnt hurt a fly. B******t.
Get well soon Aaron. It’s a pity your not able to play because off a thug not the innocent, honest English professional he is portrayed.

  261. lennie g says:

Excellent post. However I can’t agree that Clichy had a poor game, he’s been out for quite a while with injury he’ll be firing on all cylinders soon. Just one other point fancy having to watch the rubbish dished up by Stoke every week, if Arsenal served up that rubbish I thing I’d have to call it a day and take the wife shopping. Who on earth wants to watch a bunch of louts just leathering the ball as far as they can then kicking lumps out of the opposing team, and there so pleased that nearly all their goals come via a throw in.

  262. Just Stick It In! says:

    Get well soon Rambo.

I dreaded the moment when the team could just collapse after the incident.

Cesc was distraught in the background and I was hoping not another Brum episode in the making.

But somehow, the boys pulled through and now they have a binding reason to win something this season, now that is something to look forward to.

As for Rambo, he went down for the cause.

He truly is a warrior in my book.

  263. bnsb says:

Look at the end of Ramsey injury video. Sol Campbell said some kind words to Shawcross I guess.

  264. Steve says:

    Lets pray for Ramsey.

Another disgusting and irresponsible approach to disrupt arsenal’s total football style.

this ‘rough em up’ attitude is just foul.

There really was no need for a challenge like that. malice or no malice, the tackle was uncalled for.

I pray that Aaron will have a speedy and strong recovery and that mentally he is able to deal with what has happened to him.

    All the best Rambo.

  265. Mr B says:

We need to work on our free kicks, since we get a lot of them from playing around the opposition box.

If we strated scoring from them, it would also make other teams think twice.

  266. Mr B says:

We need to win the PL for Aaron. I hope the fans start singing that.

    Win it for Aaron.

  267. bnsb says:

On Sunday, Arsenal Football Club released the following statement:

“During yesterday’s match against Stoke City, Aaron Ramsey sustained fractures to the tibia and fibula in his right leg. Yesterday evening he underwent surgery.

“The operation successfully reduced the fractures and whilst it is too soon to state an exact timescale for recovery, Aaron will certainly miss the remainder of this season. Our thoughts are with Aaron at this time and everyone at the Club wishes him all the best in making as speedy a return to action as possible.”

  268. gambon says:

The fact that it doesnt say “multiple” fractures is a very good thing.

If its a clean break of both bones he should be back early next season.

  269. Swed says:

On Sunday, Arsenal Football Club released the following statement:

“During yesterday’s match against Stoke City, Aaron Ramsey sustained fractures to the tibia and fibula in his right leg. Yesterday evening he underwent surgery.

“The operation successfully reduced the fractures and whilst it is too soon to state an exact timescale for recovery, Aaron will certainly miss the remainder of this season. Our thoughts are with Aaron at this time and everyone at the Club wishes him all the best in making as speedy a return to action as possible.”

  270. Swed says:

    Coments of above?

  271. The Ruler says:

I hope the injury news is more positive than first feared and he recovers well, he is a great prospect, if he recovers I think he is the type of player that can get back to his best.

  272. Gunners The Stunners says:

    Morning all,

A great result yesterday. We showed the grit, determination and special character that we can’t be bullied anymore by these Northern pieces of shit.

Also, feel really sad about Rambo incident. All our thoughts are with you. Get well soon…

This game was by far the most important of our remaining 11 fixtures, not because Stoke are good at home. It’s because they always try to bully us with their 6 foot plus players who all look like criminals escaped from prison.

10 more games to go before we can potentially become Champions…

    COME ON GUNNERSSSSS!!!!

  273. Jonathan says:

Well Swed, it’s nothing conclusive yet. We’re still pretty much waiting. But some news is better than no news. Thanks mate.

  274. Jay says:

Come on Aaron, hope U get better. my brother and I were up from 4:30am watching it, knowing how important this game was..

watching that leg injury brought me back to ‘that game’ at birmingham…

i agree with the player needing to sit out the season, much like the injured one..

we’ve matured since that incident, its time to step up and take the league, against the odds.

bring it home lads, we deserve this than any other club, at any other time in the history of the EPL!!

I also think Sol has been a great great addition to the team, bringing that old Gunners spirit!

  275. Jaguar says:

Gentlemen’s comments from Wenger.Wonderboy will be back with a bang next season. :)

  276. Dutchman says:

I’am happy that the injury is not as serious as the one from eduardo. He will be out for the season but he may will be back for the new season. Good news!

  277. Gunners The Stunners says:

Sol has been immense since he re-joined us. It seems like he never left and it’s great to see him talking to young players on the pitch and sharing his experience with them. Also, he doesn’t look like 35 based on his recent performances…

    We’ve got Sol…

  278. ManGoonian says:

    Billy;

    Spot on post there fella…

Whbo ever asked about tickets for the Burnley game, paul has 2 spare, so get in touch via LG man…

The Ramsey news is as positive as it could be I guess…. No ligament damage or other complications…

  279. Gooneriano says:

I can’t believe the Stoke fans sang that. I didn’t hear it while i was watching it. That is awful. I believe in Karma and Stoke have something coming to them.

An absolutely wonderful result marred by yet another disgusting tackle and injury. I was pacing my living room when it happened, i was in disbelief and it instantaneously brought me back to the Eduardo incident in Birmingham. The reaction of Campbell, Vermaelen and Cesc said it all.

I loved Clichy’s reaction, he tried to focus the players which was needed because after all there was a very important football match to be won. Unfortunately he had the experience of the Eduardo incident and knew that the game could have been thrown away just like it was against Birmingham. Cesc’s celebration was a fitting tribute and the team huddle at full time with the Welsh flag had me pumped up no end.

We can win the league. It is there for the taking. If we stay focused and dispatch the “lower teams” and put in professional performances against the stronger of the teams left for us to play we could be lifting the Premier League trophy come May. And what an achievement that would be considering our rivals might in the transfer market. This would be the purest league win in years. In my eye’s it would be up there with the Invincibles albeit in a different way.

Come on Arsenal, you’re heading down the straight now. Do it for Aaron…..

  280. blazon says:

    Pedro…

why should your apology for the ‘disgusting’ tirade be any more convincing then Shawcross’ for his tackle?

both directly reflect an underlying attitude that produced a predictable result…we reap what we sow…

do you see any fundamental difference?

your match reviews/player ratings and your general knowledge of the game are second to none…leave the other stuff alone.

  281. Arse&Nose says:

but but shawcross cried, and went home with his mummy…that makes it ok right?

  282. Confidentgoner says:

    Pedro,

I thought that Clichy had a good game yesterday. He deserves at least 7.5

  283. gonner says:

the O.P and choy – shut up

his ankle broke b4 he mage contact with shawcross

    http://i.telegraph.co.uk/telegraph/multimedia/archive/01587/stoke-ramsey_1587372c.jpg

  284. Arse&Nose says:

None of todays papers have talked about Ramsey and his family.

Instead its all been about poor Shawcross, his mummy and his tears.

The British media truly disgust me.

  285. Truth says:

I thought Shawcross started crying, only after he was shown the red.

  286. Arse&Nose says:

    gooner that is total bullshit.

  287. Zak says:

Firstlt I want to wish Aaron a full and speedy recovery, and if every cloud has a silver lining then I’m sure this incident will galvanise the team for the run in. Remember fuck everyone else WE ARE THE ARSENAL. Come on.

  288. Arse&Nose says:

Have the radio, papers or tv mentioned anything about Ramsey crying?
    about his family being distraught?
about Cesc crying, about Vermaelen throwing up after the game?

    nah…that doesn’t matter because they aren’t english.

  289. ManGoonian says:

Shawcross’ crocodile tears are enough for me, he deserves the Oscar, Bafta and Britains Got (No) Talent awards…

    Gonner;

    You are joking right???

  290. BozinT says:

Great result form the team yesterday, though my heart is with Rambo! Get well son!

I just hope he comes back for preseason or by August.

Winning the league for Rambo would be ecstatic!

  291. Men, Aaron get well so man,
we will miss your defensive abilities
And to think of it he was playing very well the whole
    game.

  292. ManGoonian says:

    Arse&Nose;

The media are disgusting. They decide exactly who to castigate and who to canonise… Then the FA follow their lead…. Wankers…

  293. gambon says:

    Gonner

That pic is a millisec AFTER Shawcross had broken his leg you muppet.

    A&N

The NOTW says it was a “sickening tackle” so youve got the old persecution complex on the go. And why would they talk about his family?

  294. gambon says:

Is that really Ramseys twitter? I would be surprised.

  295. Zak says:

Secondly, I think the reason behind Aaron’s injury is fourfold.

    1. The way teams play against us. ie “get in among them, let them know the’re in a game, lets ruffle a few feathers” etc etc. I believe the madia perpetuate the myth that Arsenal don’t like it up em.

    2. Our type of play. Quick one touch pass and move play to create space. This invites challenges from behind and therefore we suffer more injuries.

    3. The type of player we buy. I’m no medical expet far from it but surely a 5’10 11 stone young player is not going to cause as much damage as a 14 stone 6’3 more mature player. If aaaron had tackled Shawcross in the same manner would Shawcross be lying in a hospital bed this mornin? Has a larger 14 stone player more muscle mass which acts a buffer in challenges and are the larger stronger type of players less likely to break bones as there bones are more dense and stronger?? I dont know.

    4. Just bad luck.

In summary just looking for someone to blame really, not just for yesterday’s challenge but the overall larger picture of our injuries.

  296. BozinT says:

There is an official statement regarding Aaron’s injury.

He’s had a surgery and I personally feel it might not be as bad as first thought. I hope he has a speedy recovery!

  297. ManGoonian says:

WE are apparantly bullied when we play the chavs, yet I cannot remember too many violent challenges???

It is a myth and a lie and is basucally a sad excuse for opposition teams of limited ability to use over physical tactics and fouls… They use this old school violence as a tactic to make up for their complete lack of technique…

Fuck em and their inbred fans….

  298. Kreshnik says:

    way tooo emotional yesterday,

I don’t know how our players kept themselves, I don’t think I’d be able to not kick the shit out of “the crying angel”

  299. ManGoonian says:

    Zak;

Are you insane? If a player went in hard on a fellow pros ankle/leg theren you can be sure it would cause damage… Are you trying to excuse this shit now> Just leave it the fuck alone man….

  300. ManGoonian says:

    Gambon;

Come on fella, after the out pouring of sympathy for poor tiny taylor last time, you cannot say it wont happen again for poor mummy’s boy Shawcross…

  301. gambon says:

    Tiny Taylor…lol!

  302. ManGoonian says:

    Zak;

I think we have had soooooo many injuries this season…. I have counted about 10 serious long term ones. That is unheard of and to cap it all, we have had to watch yet another of our players suffer att eh hands of an average clogging English player, to such an extent that his career might be over (thankfully after the early prognosis, that looks unlikely now)

Some of these injuries could be deemed unneccesary and the club should perhaps look at reasons why they occur…

However, in this instance, i do not feel any of this applies… He got done by a player who’s manager sets his team up to bully, kick and be overly aggresive…

It is fucked up whatver way you care to look at it…

  303. Zak says:

    MG

I’m not suggesting that at all, i was asking the question and looking at the far braoder picture of the reasons behind our injuries. I was in shock last night and still am and the media must take a large portion of the blame. I’m not insensative the actions of Shawcross, read my last paragraph. Best wishes to Aaron for a speedy recovery.

  304. Honest Bill says:

I think it was a perfectly fair challenge. It’s perfectly fine to kick Arsenal players, everyone knows that.. It’s not Shawcross’ fault that Johnny foreigner doesn’t like it up him, and that they can’t play up north in the cold weather. Who the fuck do they think they are anyway? comin over here trying to play football… Fuckin’ ave some o’ that, good old fashioned challenge… jumpers for goalposts.. back in the old days it was a man’s game …. Bobby Charlton… FA cup …

  305. Stu says:

Im not so sure thats Ramseys actual Twitter, if he even has one. One twit…or is it twet/tweet..whatever, one says “the media are full of shit”. He doesnt seem like someone who would curse in a place where everyone could see it.

  306. Honest Bill says:

Sorry. I had an English media Rhetoric attack

  307. Stu says:

Of all the reactions and over reactions that have been on here over the last 20 or so hours the most ridiculous ones were posters actually saying they hope the premiership gets ruined, players stop coming here and the whole thing just ceases to exist…or something along those lines.

Be angry to whatever extent you want but if all of that was to happen where would arsenal play? Supposedly the club you love and you are calling for it to have no league to play in. What would the club do? Move the stadium to france or spain and play in that league?

    Truly amazing.

  308. El Tel says:

    Nostradamus moment.

Last week we had a little review of how this game would go and mention of the fact that the Stoke fans hate Cockneys ( The disgusting response to Aaron with his leg hanging)by myself (Clock end Memories)and the pre match talk about how they will TELL us they would get in our faces and rough us up as we don’t like it up us would be said (Fuller).

The point is we knew already what was coming didn’t we.

The fact that the Team didn’t get bullied by these events tells a story that Wengers mental toughness comments are true.

There wwas comments made a few days ago about Fergie choosing toughness over skill with some agreement on here, well I am not one of those in agreement as although we shouldn’t ban challenges we are also not in a war.

Football is compared to war in this country with talk of battles and fight.

I remember as a kid in the 70s talk of Engerland being 10 years behind the continental teams. What has changed? I reckon we are Dinasours compared to Europe in Football terms.

The media show racism at its highest level even though they try to hide this.

Fergies Pals strike again by doing the dirty work while they get the chance to brainwash everyone that they play wonderful football.

They play football unchallenged, thats where the uneveness comes into play.

Have we ever heard talk of how to stop them? Can’t say I have. Teams play them with half the passion they do us, and why isd that?

I believe its because we are Cockneys, Southern softies, Jessies as Lawrenson once said. The French Team.

We are THE ARSENAL. So fuck em all.

Aaron get well soon lad as you are our future Captain and playnaker. we are allwith you Pal.

The Team must go for broke and win the League for Aaron and us Southern softies.

The FA can go fuck themselvees, I for one will switch off in the World Cup finals and go mow the lawn or rip up the road on my bike.

Couldn’t give a fuck wether Shawcross (shaven headed thug) meant it or not as the mandate before the match was set.

Pullis told his Team to geet amongst them, give them a kicking and hurt them. We will never know if this is true but hearing one of his players saying it pre match means it is a good guess.

Even if we win the League the headline has been written. It will be the poorest Team to win the title in years. Nether mind the FACT that an average one man Team has one three in a row.
Come on The Arsenal. We can do it.

  309. Honest Bill says:

Stu. I dunno who’s been saying that (can’t be bothered to read back) but of course we don’t want the prem gone, we just want the rules of football enforced and to see the league become fair. It would be better for the football, if the league was actually populated by footballers

  310. Just Stick It In! says:

    Amen to that El Tel!

  311. Stu says:

I dont remember exactly who said it either Honest Bill but they seemes pretty serious about it. Probably heat of the moment stuff as usual but why even think it.

  312. Stu says:

The carling cup final will be interesting. 2 counter attacking side up against eachother.

  313. ReVELAtion says:

Get well soon Rambo.. We’re all hoping for a speedy recovery…

I don’t think there is anything left to be said really. The FA and premier league will never attract the worlds top talent if these shocking tackles continue to go unpunished. I have no problem with commitment, passion and whatever other buzzwords the british media like to use to dress up players and teams with very little technical ability…

The whole media “arsenal don’t like it up north, get stuck in, get in their faces etc” rhetoric is just bullshit spin that the media to use to dress up the distinct dislike of our team..

The whole opinion of arsenal, full of the dirty johnny foreigners, soft touches, divers etc shows up the biggots in the media for they and this country on whole truly are. When the sole attention of the sunday papers focus on shawcross in tears and going home with his mother instead of the horrific ramifactions of the injury on the boy ramsey, the affects on his long term career and the effect on his friends and family.. Truly disgusting!!!

To truly protect the game we believe in, the belief our manager and players have in that the policy will bring rewards, we as arsenal fans must unite with the seige mentality roaring accross the finish line for the biggest prize in english football..

COME ON YOU RIP ROARING, GOAL SCORING GUNNERS!!!!

  314. El Tel says:

We have lots of negatives regarding Wenger but at least he is big enough to say what he thinks.

This gets changed to whinging yet the media all want Maureen back as he says everything they want to hear, he says he is special that he found African players that he won the CL blah blah blah.

So an intelligent speaker is a blind moaner, yet one who talks verbal shite is an Angel.

Well look now at Maureens has beens and how they turned out to be wonderful human beings.

  315. Stu says:

The media here love Mourinho because they think he is their friends. Everyone in italy fucking hates him, fans and media alike because he is a cocky bastard who thinks so highly of himself.

They love him here for the same reason they love Redknob, because he is a character who tells it as it is and is a cunt.

  316. Stu says:

DId united not celebrate the carling cup last season?

  317. Arse&Nose says:

Stu, you may be referring to my comments yesterday about he premier league.

It was in the heat of the moment but I don’t take it all back. I think the premiership does need to suffer to realise that fans want to watch football not thuggery.

Sometimes the only way there can be change is when there is a shock. The premier league has to feel the shock of losing viewers to change its approach.

The majority of premiership games are piss poor ‘hoof em’ matches. The league needs to prioritse football not thuggery and the national team will also benefit from it.

  318. Stu says:

    No Rooney starting for united.

  319. Stu says:

I agree to an extent A&N, but surely if there is a shock big enough to have all the fans turning their backs on the teams etc then the best players and managers wont want to come here and could potentially force english football backwards to when thuggery was more dominant and football was secondard.

  320. gambon says:

I wish we didnt opt to throw the domestic cups, would love to be watching us in action now!

  321. SongtheGreat says:

Stu….you might even think that the premier isnt that attractive anymore…my gut feeling yesterday was Cesc’s turning point…he has had enough of the shit..media…and shit clubs..my gut feelin ..he’s off…hope not..but…well

  322. Arse&Nose says:

    Stu, good point.

I just think the FA and premier league need to protect skillful players more. it is a problem that goes down to grass roots level.

Skillful players are kicked out of the game, and clumsy oafish players are condoned and promoted! The only reason the premiership got the best players in the last 6-7 years was because of how rich it was, that has now changed and la liga can match premier league wages.

So put your self in a foreign players shoes, which league would you want to play in? one where your not protected or one where your allowed to play with freedom?

  323. Stu says:

Yeah me too Gambon but it was City that knocked us out. Not many teams play their full strength in the CC in the earlier rounds. And it was away too..even the first team lost away. The FA cup is different though…but we could still be facing chelsea is we beat stoke and then city.

  324. gambon says:

    Peno to Villa!

    Come on!

  325. Stu says:

Hahah penalty already. Gotta be a straight red ffs!

  326. Stu says:

How is that not a red for FUCK SAKE!!

    At least they scored.

  327. gambon says:

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  328. gambon says:

Yet another example of a ref who doesnt know the rules of the game. Its a joke.

  329. Alex says:

fucking ref didn’t even give a card

  330. Honest Bill says:

    Vidic shown up as usual

  331. Arse&Nose says:

Referees think they are orchestra conductors, they should get robots in at least theyd be consistent.

  332. gambon says:

The only reason hes still on is because it was the first few minutes, if thats in the 2nd half he’s off everytime.

Its pathetic how bad the standards of officiating have got.

  333. Stu says:

Yes i definately agree with that A&N. Its always going to be difficult though because its all about survival in the premiership, a results business and because the average english players is fairly shit then managers will use other tactics instead of trying to play football.

Its more about not losing than winning here and thats one of the main problems.

In every other league the smaller teams still try to play football to win even against the bigger teams.

Ways around this might be awarding teams by the amount of goals they score. Something Wenger does with the EMirates Tournament. Or even follow Rugbys lead and have bonus points for scoring high ammounts.

In terms or the disciplinary aspect in english football, again Rugby may hold the answer. Sin binning players would calm them down and make them think about flying into tackles and leaving their team a man light even if just for 10minutes, and just because of a yellow card tackle.

Believe it or not im not actually a rugby fan..not in the slightest bit, but i do admire how well disciplined their players are and how much authority their referees have over 16 stone men.

  334. Stu says:

Vidic has always been troubled by Pace mixed with even a bit of power. Torres rapes him everytime they play Livershit.

  335. gambon says:

    Very good goal.

  336. gambon says:

Fucking commentators suggesting this one goal might get Owen to the world cup.

  337. Honest Bill says:

If Vidic played for any other team, he would just be an average player at best. He’s just allowed to be a dirty cunt at Utd

  338. Maurya says:

The worst guy on the pitch is Referee. He is a big scum. He deliberately let the kicking going on. He never bothered to protect players and bothered to give any penalties. Blame should go on referees. Referees do not behave like a professional.

  339. Stu says:

Addint to my previous points teams like WBA, Reading, Middlesboro (under southgate) and all the other relegated teams all went down because they tried to play football as best they could and suffered because the other small teams resorted to playing statistical football like Blackburn and Stoke now do and Bolton used to under Fat Sam.

Obviously it would be next to impossible to award a team more points for a win if they win by outplaying their oppo rather than if they win via long balls and set pieces but if thuggary is to be removed then something along those lines would have to be done. The only fear is that football would become americanised….and i dont think any of us want that.

  340. Hello All

    Top post Pedro

Like i said yesterday so many times,Balls to shawcross, and the media

It is the stupid mentality against us,thats making this suffer this, the menatlity of managers, media and those clubs players, that they can GET away with foul play against Arsenal..and no bloody asshole in the authority does that, becos we dont have enuf english players…what a bloody joke..

  341. Stu says:

United could win this now and it would yet again be thanks to the ref for not sending Vidic off. Did he even book him?

  342. gambon says:

Lol this referee is way out of his depth.

  343. Stu says:

WHAT THE ABSOLUTE FUCK! Villa 2 fouls 2 bookings United 2 notable fouls 0 bookings and one should have been a straight red.

    This is just beyond believable.

  344. Stu says:

Has anyone else ever noticed that whenever arsenal players wear gloves people say its because they are foreigners and dont like the cold or some bullshit like that. But both Ashley Young and Agbonglawhore are wearing gloves and have long sleeved but not a word.

  345. gambon says:

    Stu

No i havent noticed that at all. Think you may be looking for things that aint there.

  346. Arse&Nose says:

Stu, if refs got tough with bully boy tactics teams would be forced to try and win by playing good football dont you think?

It works in Spain where lower league teams are simply not allowed to kick big teams so they are forced to try and outplay them and use skill. In the end that is what brings up the standard of football.

  347. Maurya says:

Come on. Why should Referee bother about if the matcth is in first few minutes. It is a final match and they should not hamper the final with red card. These are professionals. They should know it is a final. It is not referees role to decide the results.

  348. Henkamp says:

I dont always leave a comment but i’m a avid reader of this blog and today pedro you have wrote your best article in my eyes…brilliant post mate!

Teams give us shit to stop us playing, its a shame they feel they have to cheat in order to compete with us but they are aloud to do it so its time for the arsenal board – or whoever deals with the fa – to stamp it out and make the refs do there jobs so none of this nonsence becomes a recurring issue. Wenger hasnt been looking for special treatment but he has been refs to protect our stars all season

  349. Stu says:

    NNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like Pato just pulled his hamstring and will probably definately be out for the manc match. Lucky fucking bastards!

  350. Stu says:

Errr maybe not then. He collaped holding his hamstring and was stretchered off. But then got up and walked down the touchline…

  351. jlp says:

    Fuck the FA,
they will continue to do fuck all to protect the players and in no way will they bring in foreign referees, not a chance.
The only way out of this kinda shit sadly for the Arsenal is the creation of a Super League where football will be the showcase not this kinda shit thuggery.
Even saying that though, Porto seemed to run through us at the Dragao without much being given.
But looking to the FA to sort this out ,before and especially after allowing that stupid fucking hack to represent them is as likely as a few facelifts turning Rooney into an average looking guy.

  352. Keyser says:

Stu – Heh, remember Arshavin still had his woolly hat on and I think the commentator remarker how it showed he didn’t want to come on because it’s a bit cold, he’s from fucking Russia.

  353. Chipo says:

Clichy only 6/10 are you kidding?!!?

the boy was one of the best players on the pitch!

  354. Keyser says:

Stu – Did he come back on ? You can walk if you’ve pulled your hamstring.

  355. England 3 – 2 Australia

Not bad England beat australia in there opening group game of Hockey world cup, starting today..

  356. Gooby says:

guys i need to watch the game. i couldn’t see it yesturday. anyone knows how, please???

  357. Gooby

Full match download link is NOT up yet…

but till them hope this following link helps..it is good

    http://arsenalist.com/2010/02/27/arsenal-vs-stoke-city-highlights/

  358. Gooby says:

    thanks a lot sabeel

    cheers mate!

  359. Stu says:

No Keyser, he went off for Abate and just sat on the bench. Probably not too bad then. I assume if it was bad he would have went to the treatment room.

  360. Gooby

    Soft-drinks cheers mate (i am non-alcoholic guy) :-)

  361. Stu says:

ANother fucking header. What the fuck!

  362. gambon says:

    Lol, another header for Rooney.

Cant people stop a 5’10″ guy scoring headers anymore?

  363. ALl those guys ridiculing me and Franchise

    Again,Valencia cross and Rooney header….

how many bloody headers has rooney scored…my god..

just proves u need a good pick-out of player like valencia picks out rooney so manu times, and goal is possible..

u dont need neceassarily towering tall guys up front..

just people/good wingers who can pick out people in box with good crosses..

  364. villa 1 – 2 manure…

  365. paul says:

    Nikki’s header was better

  366. Stu says:

If only the ref had the balls to send vidic off.

  367. Valencia picks out rooney again….its so simple to see…it could have been 3-1 to manure again,,

  368. post saves another valencia cross–ronney header to go in and make it 3-1

  369. paul says:

I think Villa have borrowed our defensive coach

  370. paul says:

Hate to say it but Rooney is class.Hope he does his hamstring though.

  371. Geoff says:

    PEDRO:

    Afternoon guys!

Shocked at some of the Shawcross love earlier this morning and still struggling to work about whether AA23′s post this morning was satirical or completely mental?

I think Blazon said my tirade about the financials was disgusting… I thought that was funny as well.

    A bit gutted watching United…

I thought Clichy was suspect… he grew with the game, but I didn’t think he was amazing… still, the ratings are there for you to disagree with!

  372. Geoff says:

    PEDRO:

Sabeel, Valencia average… the headers are more down to Rooney and bad keeping than anything else.

  373. timao says:

stoke said the exact same words about shawcross after he broke jeffer’s ankle with a dirty tackle from behind. the EXACT same words. they also brushed off criticism after shawcross narrowly avoided breaking adebayor’s leg last season with a filthy lunge, after the ball went out of play. adebayor spent weeks in recovery, in the same game stoke players also hospitalised Sagna and Walcott. What the fuck will it take for people to see these evil bastards for what they are?

  374. Gooby says:

can’t stop watching the celebration after verminator’s goal. fuck stoke.

the comentator words say it all(foreign):”bravo arsenal; bravo football”

  375. paul says:

Hasve Sky shown these other challenges from Shawcross or are they still busy showing Eduardos dive against Celtic.

  376. timao says:

that said, why is it always us that the fuckers target? surely it is because we have folded up under physical intimidation in the past. once that gets known teams will always try it on. now the ONLY way to stop this is to dish it out a bit more. If I was AW I would make a point of doing unto Shawcross what he has done to Ramsey – even of I had to sign Tony Soprano to get it done!

  377. Geoff/ Pedro

    thanks for the message,
it definitely true, that valencia is average and more down to rooney, shit defending..

But can we agree to give credit to valencia to consistently pick put rooney, scoring is a different ball game..i agree…

  378. paul says:

Linesman just earnt his win bonus for man scum

  379. bloody red nose, and manure win another trophy…okay..micky mouse cup…but trophy nevertheless

  380. paul says:

Yes Sabeel but we’ve got loads of money

  381. Storing money != “Joy of trophy”

but we r the generation in history of arsenal..that will be sacrificing the trophies for the long term which is NOT gaurenteed…

  382. gambon says:

So how many trophies have UTD won since we last won anything???

  383. timao says:

in fact I reckon UTD’s board would trade all their trophies for Arsenal’s money at this point

  384. Jay20h says:

Another trophy goes the Manc way – Depresing really.

26 trophies for Rednose now, lets top him getting the 27th!!

  385. gambon

attempting to put “Salt on his wounds” and most arsenal fans wounds..:)

  386. paul says:

Gambon but have their directors earn’t the bonuses ours have from not buying players.NO

  387. the only reality is Manure are in a mountain of debt..and ferguson could well me remembered as a selfish manager, like twitchy rednapp…

look what has happened to southampton, portsmouth and so many of his ex-clubs..

  388. paul says:

Maybe if we play our Champions League games at Wembley again,we can say we got there.

  389. gambon says:

Ferguson selfish??…how?….he hasnt put the club into debt.

They are an exceptionally well run club. Its the Glazers that fucked them over.

  390. Ja_Gunner says:

    http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/2194/horrifictackle1.jpg

    http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/4702/horrifictackle2.jpg

Hey guys check out these pictures….that fucking idiot swung violently at Aaron… If I were on a panel reveiwing the pictures/video I would ban him for life…

Or for as long as Aaron is out for…and the off season does not count….

  391. gambon says:

    Ja

See that yellow thing in between the 2 of them…its called the ball.

  392. paul says:

Ja my first impression when i saw it,was that it was not a foul, having looked at those pictures mmm

  393. Keyser says:

paul – honestly, why did you not think it was a foul ?!

  394. Arse&Nose says:

Another trophey for man utd, I wonder if the officials got winners medals too?

Everyone will forget that Vidic should have been sent off…once again officials have a major role to play in handing man utd a victory.

  395. Keyser says:

gambon – Exactly, you’re supposed to kick it, not kick into the shin of the player behind it as hard as you can.

  396. Big Raddy says:

Dowd won that game for MU. They would have struggled being 1-0 down with 10 men after 4 mins.

If I was MoN, I would be fuming

  397. i am hinting at the recent fergusons costly signings for his trophies conquest in past 4-5 yrs…just like chavs do..

    `

  398. The Ruler says:

From those pics it looks nowhere near the ball and maybe there was intent (not neccesarily to break his leg but to foul hard.

  399. Dutchman says:

There are many positive things from this ramsey-accident. – I saw the celebration of cesc and it makes me happy because he will stay.
    – This can give the arsenal players a big boost, because they won the game
    – This was needed for the team spirit!! Just look at the end of the match, fabregas put all the players together and said something. Love it.

The negative of the accident, do we know all.

  400. The Ruler says:

Also excessive force at the minimum seems to be proven there, I think they need to extend the ban.. 3 games it’s ridicuous like Arsene said, it’s only 1 more game than Song, compare both and their results to the players and see which was worse and by how much.

  401. Arse&Nose says:

Martin Oneil is always quick to have a go at Wenger, but he will not say anything against Fergie. He knows Fergie is untouchable in the media.

  402. Big Raddy says:

SAF did nothing wrong so why should MoN have a go? It was Dowd.

  403. chozzer says:

Paul, you were asking about crowd reaction. Just found this.

    http://www.youtube.com/user/Eastrek#p/a/u/0/NM0JNYYhAJA

  404. Arse&Nose says:

by moaning about the ref he is questioning how deserved united victory is, and that would be a dig at fergie.

  405. The Ruler says:

Lol at Adeybour STILL talking about how he didn’t want to leave Arsenal, that’s gonna really endear him to the City fans lol.

  406. Dutchman says:

Does somebody know how long ramsey will be out ???

  407. A says:

Noone knows yet Dutchman, things need to be assessed first.

  408. Dutchman..

officially no word on time…but going by predictions…6 months could be the Max time…

  409. Pedro says:

Most of my football team were of the opinion that if Rambo hadn’t snapped his leg, the most Shawcross would have got was a yellow.

    I’d have to agree…

  410. Gooby says:

i don’t think the mickey mouse cup is some kind of special trophy.

i m not THAT sad that we missed on this one

  411. Pedro says:

Just incase you hadn’t read this:

Was it a joke? I’ve never really blogged with AA23 to know!

  412. Big Raddy says:

    A&N Hardly a dig at SAF !

  413. Gooby says:

    dutchman

a year at most i think. but i’ll go for 8 months

  414. Arse&Nose says:

    6 months is optimistic sabeel!

  415. CescGod says:

Regarding yesterdays game, I believe Gael Clichy deserves enormous credit. Not only did he play awesome (signs of him getting back to his best!) But after the Ramsey injury, I felt he showed leadership in that he was rallying the troops so to speak. Was touching to watch. This game is without doubt the turning point of our season. Written off a number of times, the class of ’10 is beginning to shine through!

  416. Gooby says:

    pedro,

    that was sarcasm

  417. Arse&Nose says:

Pedro, that is a joke…a very well written piece of sarcasm.

  418. Big Raddy says:

It has to be a joke Pedro.

AA23 is a Gooner. Are you sure it was really him and not a doppelganger?

  419. Pedro says:

It was from him Raddy… I just don’t blog with him enough to know whether he was being serious or not.

It seems it was a top comment then!

  420. Big Raddy says:

Me neither Pedro. But it is well written !!

  421. Big Raddy says:

Shame the Spuds won today. Donovan missed an absolute sitter, and this from a player some LG’ers wished for !!

  422. I have read AA23 blogging comments earlier,
Majority of the time he sounds like a angry young/old man…

Only AA23 knows what he feels sarcastic or not..

  423. AA23 says:

It was sarcasm. I was absolutely fuming yesterday and I still am.

  424. Pedro says:

Raddy… some suggestions border on the insane!

    Loved Nikki B’s header…

  425. Stu says:

He was only joking Pedro. But honestly with him you can never be 100% sure. He is proper mental and confusing at the best of times.

  426. AA23 was fuming yesterday…told u..normally he is angry young/old man…so yesterday he was fuming..

BUT i was like a volcano…active one….who else would not have been angry..

  427. Stu says:

    Bendtners goal…header of the season.

  428. Stu..i actually wanted to write AA23 as a confusing angry young./old man..but deleted the word “confusing”..u took that word out of my brain..

  429. Arse&Nose says:

AA23, you should go on talkShite radio and say all of that to stan collymore…i bet they would be too thick to work out you were taking the piss out of them.

  430. Pedro says:

    AA23, top comment!

  431. Keyser says:

I’m kind of dissappointed there, thought that was going to be like Run DMC vs Jason Nevins.

  432. GoonerJohn says:

Rooney scored 5 headers in the last 3 games ! fucking hate this cunt.

  433. Alex says:

    Cesc, Legend!

Sky just showed that we’re the 2nd most fouled team in the league, 2 behind Hull. By the end of the season I expect we’ll be at the top, proof that we are given harsh treatment and no protection.

  434. chozzer says:

AA23, your sparring with Ethan overnight always makes me laugh.
Not really sure how anyone could have thought it was anything but sarcasm.

  435. Arse&Nose says:

Alex, Hull are only above us because they have Stephen Hunt the biggest diver in the league since Ronaldo left.

  436. Keyser says:

Pedro – What do you think ? That the challenge should only be a yellow no matter the consequences ? Or that the ref was right give the red once he’d realised the leg was broken ?!

Song got the only yellow of the game for a completely innocuous challenge mind.

  437. ethangunner says:

    Pedro

    AA23 is a ACLF’er …
he used to be critical of me , now i think he try’s to emulate me :)

yes i have noticed his weirdness recently ..
he is saying things .. that… well sound more like…..

    me :)

in fact he is me on steroids recently :)

  438. Stu says:

Some cunts were even saying that it was only a yellow regardless of Ramseys leg being broken.

  439. Alex says:

    Most fouled teams:
    Hull – 384
    Arsenal – 382
    Everton – 376

And Blackburn 1st at committing fouls and Hull 2nd

  440. ethangunner says:

gotta say i like the change thou :)

we can now concentrate on meaningless sarcasm in the mornings without interruption :)

  441. Stu says:

So basically Hull are always involved in high fouling matches..not surprising tbh.

  442. out of the so called Top4 group, we r the most fouled

  443. gooner love between AA23 and ethan…tears…so cute :)

  444. ethangunner says:

    Stu Says:
    February 28, 2010 at 17:54

Some cunts were even saying that it was only a yellow regardless of Ramseys leg being broken.
    ———————-
stu thats bollocks the tackle was way too high ..
if they need any proof just look at the X-ray :)

  445. Pedro says:

Keyser, when you snap someone’s leg… you go, regardless of intentions etc.

However, I agree that if he didn’t break his leg… a booking would be the best we could have hoped for.

  446. gambon says:

You have to punish the challenge….not the outcome of the challenge. Otherwise you’ll never stamp it out.

  447. Stu says:

 I know that too Ethan.

  448. paul says:

Woman beating dogger having a go at Wenger on Talk Shite now

  449. Mayank says:

I think the fact that Ramsey had the ball, the break was mid shin and studs up ensures its a red. The break otherwise should not effect the card.

  450. Stu says:

The way Shawcross flew in he was always going to clatter Ramsey regardless of whether he was going to get the ball or not.

  451. Pedro says:

Gambon, spot on… or you have to retrospectively punish rash challenges if they get missed… ala Gallas versus Bolton.

  452. Stu says:

The studs werent up thoug Mayank. I agree it was a red but not as bad as Taylors straight leg, studs showing tackle.

  453. Pedro says:

Paul, the arrogance of the man never ceases to amaze me… he truly believes his opinion is the only one.

  454. we are such a good team,i think we havent got a red card for >1 year right

  455. Pedro says:

Stu, you don’t tackle someones shin… studs up, studs down… it’s reckless

  456. Mayank says:

Exactly what gambon said. You can’t allow players to go for the player and you certainly need to send them off for such challenges.

  457. Pedro says:

I haven’t read around the press today… what’s the feelings amongst the MSM?

  458. ethangunner says:

you have to punish the club responsible with wages and rehabilitation ..
    thru-out the injury duration …

that could stamp it out… MONEY !

  459. Mayank says:

Stu I haven’t seen the challenge but there is no way to break a leg like that without burying your studs in it. If its studs down its going to send the player flying.

  460. petrovic says:

the managers of these two bob outfits are as responsible for these horrific injuries as the morons who carry them out.wankers like pulis should be held accountable as well,he sends them out to “play to their strengths” or in other words just take one or two out if you can.

  461. gambon says:

    Sabeel,

I dont necessarily think thats a good thing.

  462. Pedro says:

    That’s a great point Ethan…

  463. paul says:

Pedro most of the media still want to dicuss Eddies dive especially Sky

  464. Pedro says:

Agreed Petrovic, never understood how acting like a thug was a strength… hardly a skill is it?

  465. Pedro says:

    haha! Eddy is a cunt.

  466. petrovic says:

it`s now arsenal against the world,no better motivation than that!

  467. Stu says:

Mayabk, i reluctantly watched the clip. Ramseys foot was planted and Shawcross swung full force and kicked Ramsey clean in the shin. Had he kicked a ball with that force it would have gone about 200yards.

  468. Aaron will be back as a RAMBO!!
England reduce Australia to ashes 3-2
    India otclass Pakistan 4-1
what a weekend (Ramsey’s injury sours it a bit but it happens so many times with The Arsenal you have to concede its a part of rich tapestry of life i.e playing the correct way in modern football where winning at any cost is everything)

  469. ethangunner says:

the ruling would need to be carried out by a 3rd party like the FA or some such …

but who is going to pay for rambo’s wages / rehab for 1 or 2 years ? (the fans)

shit add another to the list ….

  470. gambon

not sure abt not getting a red card as not a good thing,

we lose our players almost every match due to injuries, dont wanna lose more on red cards..

it would be okay to lose players to red if we had more experienced,non-crocky players in squad..

  471. Keyser says:

Pedro – I think there’s a difference though, I don’t think either of Shawcross or Gallas’s challenges were malicious.

You look at Adebayor’s on Van Persie, or Jiminez on Diaby, a boot to the face and one of them could have lost an eye, only one was punished retro-spectively, but if the player had lost an eye, what then ?!

Clattenburg was the twat in charge of both games, on a sidenote.

  472. Mayank says:

Question Pedro, do you still believe the media are unbiased and are just following good marketing practices? If so, good marketing practices should be regulated.

  473. A says:

Anyone else think Cesc is gone in the summer as a result of this?

I did think it very unlikely him leaving this year, but reckon that’s probably turned the tide.

The next time it happens because of the ridiculous mentality in this country it could very easily be him, especially with the targetting he’s getting now.

If I was him, or any talented technical player I’d move away very quickly to somewhere I’d get more protection.

  474. Stu says:

There is a clip of it at 9:36 is you feel like vomitting Mayank.

  475. shawcross swung wildy recklessly,poor ramsey…

u cant recklessly like that with a fellow professional..

  476. Stu

that 9.36 clip has been withdrawn by youtube..

  477. Stu says:

Oh…well i dont know then. Im sure there is a clip somewhere on here.

  478. Ja_Gunner says:

Guys just to look ahead abit I would play this team for Burnley assuming Diaby will be out still..

Gallas and Arshy should be back…

    ……………………Al……………………..
    Sagna……..Gallas………Verm/Silv………Clichy
    ……………..Eastmond/Denilson………………
    ……Cesc………………………Nas/Rosick….
    …Theo……………Bendy…………..Arsh/Eddy…

  479. Mayank says:

No, thank you Stu, I avoided the Eddy break for the best part of a month and I plan to do the same here.

  480. Pedro says:

A… Geoff thinks it’ll spur him on to stay.

Mayank, I’m not sure about a media bias. In the tabloids, probably… their reporters need to appeal to oafs.

In the broadsheets… not really. You should read how much they all ripped Terry today.

Keyser, I don’t think anyone ever means to snap someones leg… but he certainly meant to let Rambo know he was there. Clumsiness (spelling) isn’t an excuse for me… If you do that in Sunday league, you can be sued.

  481. Keyser says:

A – I think it makes him less likely to leave, I think it just makes his will to succeed with this team even stronger, like he’s beginning to enjoy and grow into the role of captain along with the team.

They say he won’t get into the Barca team because of Xavi, but I think he’s already getting a more rounded education.

  482. Happy Holi to all the fellow India Gooners
    Chak De India
    Chak De Arsenal

  483. Mayank says:

Not really A, I believe things like this bind you to a team. The strongest bonds are made in the hardest of times.

  484. Gooby says:

we are the arsenal, fuck the rest!

  485. Pedro says:

A, I also think you have to expect and element of danger in any pro sport role.

  486. Jonathan says:

Stu, with that analysis of yours and with one’s imagery of the incident, there’s only one way of saying this…. OUCH!!!!

Shawcross, let’s hope you start thinking more before you lunge like that for a 50-50, regardless of what your manager tells you to do. Professional footballers are thinkers as well, and you clearly displayed what lack of common sense you had then on the pitch.

  487. Arse&Nose says:

Does it fucking matter if his studs were up?

FA rule book states red card for :

“Using excessive force” means that the player has far exceeded the necessary use of force and is in danger of injuring his opponent.

He went in with enough force to snap two bones in half, on its own that merits a red card for excessive force.

  488. Lou says:

“He’s not that sort of lad” says Pullis. “He would never go out to injure anyone”. Well, he broke Francis Jeffers ankle in 2007, put Adebayor out for a while last year by tacking his ankle when he was off the pitch and now he has destroyed Ramsey’s leg. I suppose we must all assume that he’s just unlucky that people keep putting their legs where his studs are then.

  489. Keyser says:

Pedro – Dunno really what to think, I thought it was a good commited game up until that point, we seemed to be relishing the physical side, because in reaction we seemed to up the technical side, we controlled balls better and were thinking about the pass quicker.

Those people saying it’s a mans game and we should just shut up and get on with it I think are talking shite, imagine if one of your kids was on the end of a tackle like that, malicious or not, would you really be so forgiving.

  490. A says:

Yeah Pedro, but there’s much more of a danger in England, and especially playing for us. How many players have snapped their legs playing for Barca and Madrid in the past 5 years, or even past decade? Or in Serie A?

The British mentality, “giving teams a kick” etc being an apparently justifiable tactic is getting worse, and will take more and more away from the Premier League imo.

I agree that it’ll bind the team together, they’ll want to win for Ramsey etc, but at the end of the season I can see Cesc assessing the likelihood of a career ending injury here compared to elsewhere, and thinking “fuck that”.

  491. Stu says:

There is a still picture of the break at 17:10, the second link. It shows that Shawcross actually kicked Ramsey, rather than broke by studs up..

    Its still fucking disgusting though.

  492. Mayank says:

Ripping Terry isn’t surprising is it? he’s fair game. That’s not what I mean by bias though. A similar tackle and break to Rooney or Lampard would have a different reaction. I’m sure a lot more focus would be on the tackle and lesser on the perpetrator for one thing.
You could argue that they’re English heroes but doesn’t that show and propagate Xenophobia.
People with Xenophobic tendencies get positive reaffirmation, while Wenger is portrayed as a moaner.

  493. Stu says:

Its not as broad as “give teams a kick” imo A. How often do other teams have players get their legs broken. We have had 3 horrific injuries in 5 years, far more than any other teams.

  494. Mayank says:

Also how much has the media ripped into the chelsea fans for booing Bridge and cheering JT?
    Not that I expected it.

  495. A says:

Yeah Stu – because the way to beat Arsenal is to “give them a kick”, that’s widely accepted in the media! It’s a disgusting attitude and mentality, but totally justified by most people in our game.

It’s a disgrace, and isn’t going to change anytime soon

  496. Arse&Nose says:

    A, agree 100%.

I cant believe some people are still debating whether it was a bad tackle or not..it broke someones fucking leg is that not enough proof?

Excessive force = red card, but refs don’t usually apply the rules by the laws in England.

  497. paul says:

I think we are all being a bit unfair on Shawcross. I hear his eyes are still quite red, lets show some compassion to the other victim.

  498. Keyser says:

Yeah, that pepper spray I bought worked quite well.

  499. Gooby says:

fucking international week, hope we’ll not lose players again

  500. ethangunner says:

i do actually think the same A ,

    RE: cesc departing

because i always said we would never see the best of Cesc in an Arsenal shirt ..

and now he’s REALLY coming good he’s off …

thanks for the 4 years of keeping me in the team when there were times i didn’t warrant being in it …early on …

this is how ill repay you ..

    asta la vista …

i got the same pit in my stomach when TH14 was supposedly injured prior to leaving ..

and all the denial …. , only to go once the season was over …

if we won something , all bets are off , but i think cesc will fuckoffski in the summer ,

it will fund wengers spending spree gazidis is talking about :)

  501. Mayank says:

A&N the question is whether the card would’ve been given without the break.
    lol Paul.

  502. Pedro says:

A, I agree with the premise of what you’re saying… but I think you forget that a lot of the foreigners love the blood and guts style of football we play. I reckon Cesc likes the physical side of things… It’s also reflected in the overall passion this country has for football… unrivalled anywhere else in the world.

Mayank, I don’t like the xenophobic brush people tar UK media with.

You’d expect the press to be up in arms about an English player having their leg snapped wouldn’t you? The same way you’d expect the press to cover the abduction of a blonde British girl over the abduction of a foreign girl.

The newspapers are meant for English people. I’m sure there is plenty of evidence that foreign newspapers back their own as well!

Keyser, I didn’t really feel that Stoke were being terrible yesterday… but that a challenge like that seems to be part and parcel of playing shite teams… it needs to be stamped out without killing the game at the same time.

  503. Jonathan says:

I’m goin’ to bed guys. If you don’t already know, where I live, it’s an addition of 8 hours GMT. Can’t emphasise this enough, let’s keep Ramsey in prayer for a speedy and full recovery and for us as fans to remain united for the club.

These are tough times indeed as it’s almost clear as day that nobody out there really gives a rat’s ass about our welfare. Ever more the reason that the Arsenal should win the BPL and show that even with us getting pushed around, we overcome the supposed insurmountables with flowing and technical(proper) football and prove wrong the “rough-them-up”, “physical sport” mentality. (May as well switch to American Football then, eh?)

    Cheers mates.

  504. Gooby says:

shawcross was too high on his tackle, that’s against the rule. bad tackle, disgrace to football…end of story

  505. gambon says:

    A

No, i think Cesc is a tough kid, he enjoys the physical fight.

He may leave in the summer, and one day he certainly will, but i dont think what happened yesterday will have any bearing on it. These challenges happen all over europe….look at the Axel Witsel challenge in belgium.

  506. Pedro says:

    Have a good one Jon!

  507. titan49 says:

Good post. Pragmatic and optimistic. I feel Clichy deserves a slightly higher rating though, he showed some real passion at times.

Every Gunner’s thoughts are with you Aaron, and we all look forward to seeing you in the red and white again soon.

We now have to rally together guys. The boys showed true passion, and the skipper and sol were imperious. Let’s show our love for them in every game now. Let’s push them over the line. We have to let them know that we are here, we are together, and we stand with them. If they are willing to fight for each other on the pitch, then we will fight for them on the stands. If ever there was justice in this world, then we should win the league. Let’s make sure they have all our support

  508. Arse&Nose says:

    Mayank the answer is …

if you go in with excessive force you deserve a red-break or no break.

but refs never officiate that way, they seem to bottle these decisions.

  509. Mayank says:

Pedro, what if the girl was working in England and abducted by an Englishman would it still be okay?
I’m not calling the media Xenophobic, I think they cater to the Xenophobic tendencies within people.
Case in point the word French is always attached to cunt across all blogs while abusing Wenger. As if being French compounds thee cuntiness!
I believe papers have the responsibility to be truthful in their analyses even if it means making the readers read something their uncomfortable with.

  510. Mayank says:

I agree A&N. At least retrospectively.

  511. ethangunner says:

    gambon

i think his notice is already in ….
    myself…

he said if he was going to ever leave he would tell wenger 1st ..

well im sure wenger wouldnt want to drop that bomb shell now …

it would blow any chance of a title if cesc came out now … POOR TIMING by definition .

also did he sign his improved deal ??

cant say i heard the outcome on cesc being offered the best paid arsenal player ever new contract …

  512. Arse&Nose says:

Pedro I dont agree with your simplistic justification of xenephobia in the media.

We English know better so should aspire to higher, fairer standards.

England isnt a third world country, or an fundamentalist state we are a civilised nation and our media has the responsibility to reflect that.

  513. Keyser says:

Mayank – Doesn’t it just come down to money, if football had no money in it and was just some conference teams playing each other every week, the media might resort to the condemnation of xenophobic tendancies, but it’s just not in their best interests to do so now.

You get tits on page 3 because it sells papers, not because they’re especially nice tits, though it helps, or newsworthy tits but because they make people open their paper.

Who’s going to make the papers enforce any sort of moral responsibility like that ?!

  514. Pedro says:

Mayank… I think you read into it too much.

Look around the blogs… Cockney cunt, Chav cunt, bindipping cunt, yid cunt…

It’s nothing to do with Xenophobia.

If it was an English child abducter, I can assure you firstly, it wouldn’t be ok… and secondly it would get coverage in the press. Look no further than Gary Glitter to see that.

The English press caters to the English, just like the Indian Press caters to the English. Our press still love to rip into locals… Terry, Cole, Vernon Kay… whatever sells!

I think you’d like Arsenal bias… not rational analysis. You can never please everyone… becuase football is so subjective.

  515. Mayank says:

    Ethan,
In a very recent interview when Wenger was asked if players might leave for the lack of Silverware he said Cesc to Barca is nonsense.
So I don’t think the notice is in, Wenger could have spoken in much less categoric terms if it were so.

  516. ethangunner says:

    A&N

we are a civilized nation and our media has the responsibility to reflect that.
    ———————————–
you wouldn’t have thought we were a civilized nation last night hearing the bullshit things the stoke fans chanted ..

you give western society way too much credit .

  517. tonyadamsisgod says:

    Evening all….

For the first time I have found myself questioning whether we do get harshly targeted by opponents. Its always been well documented that they way to beat us is to kick us but this attitude is getting out of hand. I am absolutely convinced that foreign referees would put an end to English players taking the ‘English’ game too far. I am sure that referee’s have it in their minds that Fabregas or whoever must be a weak little girl because he is foreign and therefore the oppo probably didn’t do anything wrong.

Something needs to change. Get well soon Rambo, you’re still gonna be the man!!

  518. Mayank says:

Exactly Pedro it wouldn’t be okay, if anything it’d be worse. Why don’t the same rules apply to Arsenal?

You might be right about the Chav cunt etc bit but in their case being a Manc or a Chav does compound the cuntiness!

  519. Pedro says:

    A&N, I’m not justifying it… I’m explaining it!

I’m a massive fan of great journalism and a big hater of tabloid gossip bollocks.

I think papers are missing a trick… people love good journalism more than smut. But because they’ve all got it in their heads that sordid affairs sell… they keep going to ridiculous lengths to expose it! They get a peak… then a bigger dip, then a peak… etc etc…

You don’t get loyal readership with trash… becuase you only get your spikes from the lowest common denominator, which turns of intelligent people.

    Just my opinion of course…

  520. Pedro says:

    Well said Ethan!

  521. Arse&Nose says:

ethan you have a point, sometimes it makes me ashamed to be British.

Sometimes you look at poorer nations and see that they might not have the riches we do but at least they haven’t become morally corrupt.

  522. Mayank says:

“just like the Indian Press caters to the English”
I’m letting that one go down as a typo…

  523. ethangunner says:

    mayank

you are possibly 100% correct .
im just going on a gut feeling ..

plus i see some similar traits to when TH14 left .
also remember wenger was asked if TH14 was going to leave also … (prior to him leaving)

and he answered the same , as you stated above , only for us to watch him walk out to barca in the summer for 16p ..

    opps mil :)

  524. Pedro says:

A&N… I hope we can sort that out… because I think people are getting tired of it over here.

The shame of it is… we’re morally corrupt by design. Force people into becoming selfish… watch them take their eye off the ball…

  525. Pedro says:

Mayank… apologies! haha! That could have looked like an insult there!

    *correction

‘The Indian press cater to the Indians.’

  526. Mayank says:

Even I’m a great fan of good journalism Pedro, I sometimes enjoy it more than reading books etc.
That is why i think steps need to be taken to utilise it’s full potential. I see Indian media trying to ape it’s western counterparts and the standards deteriorating.
A suggestion I once heard was to take the NEWS agency license from these tabloids and give them an entertainment license.

    ———————————–
    i think everywhere is corrupt A/N …

just in some countries like thailand for instance the corruption is on the street level , and in western society its in politics at the other end of the scale

    :)

youll never lose the taint , its human nature .

  528. Journalism is on a low down with no accountability,

if there is a new newspaper talking trash, one can say, that they will not make it big,
    but,
the worrying factors is popular newspapers/media are turning into gossip providers..

Naturally when Many leading media houses who already have a reach fight to out for more reach, they turn into gossip providers..thats why journalism is a new low,as there is no accoutability

Most media houses use freedom of speech with NO accountability..

  529. ethangunner says:

anywhere the rules get Grey in color, corruption
    breeds ..

    wow thats Heavy :)

  530. gambon says:

The problem is these newspapers are a business, they will write whatever their research tells em will sell best…that will never change.

And as Ethan says, corruption is a human trait, it isnt any worse here than it is elsewhere.

  531. hand on Heart,we all are a little bit hypocrytes,we may bash bad gossip journalism, but we also do enjoy gossip stuff…

now arent we part of the masses who fuel and motivate the gossip providers even more..there is a but of hypocrisy involved when we all say,we enjoy “good journalism”

  532. Arse&Nose says:

Excellent piece here, sums up the reaction to the diaby, eduardo and ramsey breaks…

    http://www.onlinegooner.com/exclusive/index.php?id=1558

  533. Pedro says:

Mayank, the Icelandics passed a new law that gives freedom to investigative journalists.

We need to encourage great journalism, not shrug our shoulders and huff that it doesn’t sell.

Why do alternative news sites do well? Because money is rarely the reason behind the sites!

The same with blogging… people like blogs becuase there aren’t ulterior motives.

  534. Arse&Nose says:

    Pedro, that is the future.

No one buys papers anymore, that’s why the murdochs are getting their knickers in a twist and trying to shut down newsnow!

The future is free information on the internet, in fact its happening now.

  535. gambon says:

    A&N

I agree with the idea of free information on the internet, but the people with money will find a way to stamp it out. You can be sure of that.

  536. Pedro says:

A&N, you should check out the doco’s on iplayer about the internet.

Berners-Lee invented the web so there could never be central control! Thank fuck for that eh?

Mind you, I wouldn’t be surprised to see big government try and amend that!

    WEB LICENSING FOR ALL!

A scary thought… but not beyond the realms…

  537. Arse&Nose says:

gambon, i don’t think they will. People power has stopped them banning free music and movies, they might be able to shut down the odd site but in the long run they will fail.

  538. Arse&Nose says:

Pedro, so far only china has tried to control the web and they have failed!

My mate was out there for work and he told me everyone with half a brain cell knew how to get around Chinese web blocking tactics.

People power will win, that is what makes the web so powerful!

  539. A&N

if u not aware, there are technologies coming up which will whitewash the newspapers altogether…and have a greener environment..

for ex..Daily Newspapers on mobile,no need for paper, saves trees, keep it green..

  540. Mayank says:

True about that, I always try to get world news from an alternative site. You have to weed out the crazies but we’re all capable of that. But the best writers would need to be paid. To be true its only fair.

Hopefully they won’t be able to curb the internet’s potential.
I feel an anti-capitalism rant coming on but I’ll save it for a different time on a different site.

  541. Arse&Nose says:

Pedro, that is scary but i really dont see how they will be able to control the web technically.

ISP’s cant even track p2p encryption, it would cost them billions to implement the technology needed to track people.

  542. Gooby says:

i am looking at the table

top 4 is top 3 now.

we, chavs and mancs are so much ahead of the others

  543. Mayank says:

    That’s a good link Pedro.
I think Even music piracy might do the industry some good. Store owners may not agree and rightfully so.
I think the sooner the labels go down the sooner we go back to people making music for people and themselves and not their bosses. They’ll earn enough by touring.

  544. leon says:

its common knownedge the smaller teams like stoke birmingham ect is sick arsenal off the park they did fisrt time we faced stoke and they injured quite few arsenal players and what did pundits say that arsenal need stop complaining its part of the game it happend when faced birmingham with horror show of tackle by that taylor, and its pretty clear alot of these players dont know hwo to tackle, old fashioned defenders like terry bold adams steve bruce ect were extremly tough tacklers but fear tackles would never have such poor tackle and its the art of tackling lost art,the big problem is the alot players try comeup with big tackle but because they not high quality players they cant handle the better quality players and they are cant pull it off,and i dont want hear how sorry this player is and what kind gentle player is either

  545. ah
ACTA – nice plan by content owners to make even more money…at expense of democracy…

  546. Kreshnik says:

Pedro technically the Internet is built in such a way that favors communities and groups. It’s basically how the graph theory and how routing and nodes work that make it very hard to be controlled to begin with. Case in point are intranets. Nothing can stop us from having our own internal network inside of my company. It will be completely closed and monitored from the IT dept and there’s absolutely nothing external policies can do about it. Sure enough major nodes and ISP’s can be controlled but there are technically too many advancements and complications that policing such systems can quickly become outdated and given how static policies and politics are, it definitely makes it inappropriate.

  547. gambon says:

    Gooby

But for how long?! May not be long before City are up with us.

Hopefully Liverpool will finish 5th and fall apart.

  548. Gooby says:

    paul

i don’t think wenger will even bother answering this cunt.

  549. paul says:

Pedro i have sent you an e mail

  550. gambon says:

I dont see Adebayors point. We all know Wenger wanted him out, because he was a cunt and a waste of £100k pw.

  551. Gooby says:

    nite sabeel

  552. Jay20h says:

Ade just cant stop talking about Arsenal. Every now an again he comes out starts talking about us.

    He really is a prick.

  553. paul says:

If Ade looked to his right he would see the offside flag again.Concentrate on that you twat.

  554. Pedro says:

Gambon, it’s like he is so deluded, he thinks we all missed the press conference where he contradicted himself within ten minutes!

I was told he was asked to leave in March.

I think it’s hilarious to read that he thinks he’s not a trouble maker… Ade dear, we all saw you head butt Nik B during a game!

  555. Maurya says:

Other than that sad incident, we did bullied Stoke lot of times. Verminator, Compbell and Song just brushed them whenever possible in our own half. Clichy, Sagna and Ramsey stood up and even roughed them up whenever possible. On top of that, Bendy just treated them like ants.

  556. Maurya says:

Patric is standing up to Arsenal and makes good observations.

    http://www.skysports.com/video/inline/0,26691,13989_5991357,00.html

  557. Kreshnik says:

what hurt a lot yesterday as well was Jaguar slating the shit out of anything and everything and the usual pissing all over Wenger and then … after the shock and after all of us expressing how shocked we were, he disappears. Ofcourse, it’s really hard to support ur team when in need. It’s fucking easy to take the piss at everything.

might as well join the fuckers on sky now.

  558. Arse&Nose says:

Patrick Barclay is the only one on sunday supplement I respect.

  559. Dutchman says:

Sure cesc won’t leave next season. Just saw the interview with someone(i forgot his name). He said that he asked cesc if he will leave and cesc said three times that he won’t. I believe cesc. From his reaction yesterday you could see that he loves arsenal and the players around him. Legend!!
    He will stay.

  560. nn says:

anybody know when arshavin, gallas and diaby will be back?

  561. A says:

Arshavin was called up to the Russia squad for Weds so I guess after that, though more likely the fuckers will play him despite his being injured, and he’ll be out for another 3 weeks when he returns.

Gallas and Diaby aren’t in the French squad, though Diaby probably wouldn’t have been anyways what with not being fit. Hopefully Diaby will be back for Porto.

  562. gambon says:

Diaby doesnt get into the french squad anyway does he?

  563. goonermichael says:

I’ve spent 5 hours in the car today listening to talkshite. I hope collymore fucking dies the dogging, women beater

  564. Pedro says:

    Well said GM.

  565. Wiseman says:

Please correct me if I am wrong – the three players who broke Arsenal player’s legs (Diaby, Eduardo and Shawcross) are all English?

That’s why everytime it happens we are told that “it wasn’t malicious” and we should leave these poor boys alone. Fuck off stupid English media.

  566. Wiseman says:

The person who is responsible for Ramsey’s injury is Tony Pulis, for telling his players to some out and rough us up. I hope he is happy with himself.

  567. zeus says:

Still gutted about Aaron. guess this means bye bye to Merida. Why should he stay? He is skillful, and no doubt in a couple of years time these uncompromising barely talented players lower league twats will break his leg too.

  568. Pedro says:

Wiseman, I don’t think that is the common denominator… there are plenty of nasty foreigners in the Premiership.

  569. Zorr0 says:

What was the basic gist of dogging woman beaters comments pls?

  570. Pedro says:

Zeus, we’ve got the best league in the world… if people want to go, they should go…

We have the best crowds, the most passion and most exciting football.

    We also pay quite well…

  571. goonermichael says:

Does anyone on here have a good grasp of maths (I don’t)
Statistically could 3 leg breaks in 5 years in the prem to players in the same team by English players from teams managed by british coaches really be a conicidence. Mathematically speaking? As a qualified hairdresser I put it to you that it is impossible

  572. Zorr0 says:

GM, that might not be true, but I bet you can do a great French crop!

  573. goonermichael says:

    Zorro
One of his phone in questions waa “are Arsenal fans embarrassed by Wengerrs comments?”

Earlier on someone else’s programme ha accused Wenger of wanting to make English football a non contact sport and that he should go and coach in Spain or Italy.

He also said pound for pound rooney is the best player in the world.

  574. goonermichael says:

I’m off now. I met a chav fan today who told me he’s backed Arsenal at 9 to 1 to win the league. I’m having money on it in the morning. We didn’t fold like we did at Birmingham last time.

  575. Gooby says:

    gambon

he gets in the french squad sometimes

  576. Pedro says:

GM, you have to take other leg breaks into consideration, the fact the lower league teams have a higher percentage of Brits playing for them etc…

Hull are the most fouled team in the Prem… I’d have never thought that!

  577. Pedro says:

    That’s a good bet GM!

    Have a good night!

  578. A says:

Pedro that’s very much subjective, in terms of excitement, passion, and crowds!

In terms of the atmospheres and crowd passion I’d disagree totally!

Our league will suffer too if things keep going the way they currently are, and we will return to being a level below the spanish league, and even serie a could make a resurgence and overtake us.

In terms of entertainment value, I’d put the average la liga game certainly above the average premiership game.

  579. gambon says:

I cant see you getting anywhere near 9-1

If I can get them odds im definately wacking a ton on it.

  580. A says:

Pedro there are fouls and fouls. Fouls against Hull aren’t because it’s a widely accepted fact that you can get into their faces and stop them playing if you give them a kick or two.

Same with lower league football, there aren’t many teams that are full of foreign technical players, therefore there isn’t that mentality to an extent, and teams don’t target other teams in the same way.

  581. zeus says:

Could everyone just stop this nonsense about Rooney being the best in the world. Okay fine, he is a top footballer. I’ll admit that, much to my chagrin.

But the notion that this guy is anywhere near the level of Messi, CR9 or even Kaka is completely outrageous. This is his first stint as ‘the main man’ in his team and fair play he is doing well now, but anointing him the player of the year in February is about as premature as a teenager’s first time.

This is very typical of the English, pretty soon we will hear that they are favourites for the WC too as if they have some divine right to the title. I’m calling it now, England go out at the 1/4s if they are lucky enough to get there.

  582. gambon says:

The drama and entertainment of the premier league is far ahead of La Liga, and more importantly the marketing is light years ahead.

The PL is going to get bigger & bigger, and richer, which will keep it ahead.

The only league that will be any bigger will be the inevitable European Super League.

  583. gambon says:

    zeus

I dont know, he cant be that far behind.

What will he have to do in your eyes to be as good as them 3?

  584. A says:

That’s subjective gambon. Entertainment wise I’d much rather watch Athletico Madrid – Valencia, than Villa – Everton

Or any lower league la liga game than any of Stoke, Hull, Blackburn play anyone.

There is awesome drama in prem games at times, but just taking the average prem game compared to la liga, and I enjoy watching la liga much more, the standard of football is just so far superior

  585. A says:

I wouldn’t say Rooney is close to Messi, or could ever be, nor currently to an on form Kaka, but he’s better than Ronaldo imo

  586. Honest Bill says:

The standard of football is better in La Liga i’d say, but I do agree that the PL is marketed better, and our media know how to ham up every little aspect, whcih makes for further entertainment

  587. zeus says:

    @ Gambon

For starters he has to win a major trophy as the ‘main man’. No matter what he does however, he can’t be on Messi’s level.

As for the PL being marketed better.Duh. They have employed an aggressive American style advertising campaign where its all ‘the best league in the world this and that.’

  588. gambon says:

I think Messi is far ahead of everyone else in the world.

Theres a lot of world class players such as Torres, Cesc, Rooney, Ronaldo, Gerrard etc behind him and I think Rooney is as good as any of them now he’s scoing regularly.

  589. A says:

Yeah I’d agree with that gambon, this season Rooney has stepped up a level to being in the same league as the likes of Ribery, Cesc, Kaka, Ronaldo, Gerrard, Torres when they’re all on form.

  590. zeus says:

    Fair enough Gambon.

But my point is we are in February, and this is the first season really that he has been scoring like this.

He has to do this same over the course of next season and the season after. Prior to this season, he was much like Adebayor, he scored in batches and went missing for weeks b4 another purple patch.

  591. Honest Bill says:

Well i just hope this pressure gets to Rooney and he dries up for the rest of the season

  592. Mark c says:

    Hi guys.

    Did
anyone notice song is banned for two games now.

Campbell was great yesterday and if gallas
is back I would move tv into cm.

The titled is on now. We are properly in
it. If we win all our games we will be champions and If we are Ramsey must get a medal.

  593. zeus says:

Isn’t it eerily similar to WC 06. The guy broke his metatarsal and England pinned their hopes on him to win the title. Quite unbelievable. Same this time round I feel.

  594. A says:

Speaking of Rooney, he’s a “major doubt” for the England game, what a joke

  595. gambon says:

Mark, he gets one anyway for playing 10 games.

  596. zeus says:

I guess having so many players for us injured is a blessing in disguise.

F-off NTs. No Arshavin, Gallas, Diaby for you. We should make Nasri and Rosicky major doubts themsleves.

  597. A says:

Arshavin is in the Russia squad zeus.

Mark I wouldn’t do that, sol is a good sub. Denilson will be fine as DM home to Burnley, and then away at Hull. Song got his booking at the best possible time, Burnley home is a gimme, and Hull isn’t the nicest game these two were certainly the best pair of games imo. If Diaby isn’t back it’ll be interesting who plays though, if Merida is back from injury could be a big opportunity for him, or if not I guess Nasri or Rosicky in there.

  598. zeus says:

    FFS. Why?

  599. Ja_Gunner says:

Yea A I was about to mention that conveniently Rooney is feeling discomfort in his knee…

This is very typical, they find ways to weasel out of the pointless friendlies….

  600. Ja_Gunner says:

I would play Nasri in the midfield now..I hate when he is on the left wing…he is very frustrating out there….

I would play this lineup for the next game…

    …………………Almunia……………………
    Sagna…….Gallas…….Sol/Silvest….CLichy/Armand
    ……………….Denilson/Eastmond……………..
    …..Cesc…………………………Nasri………
    ..Theo/Rosick……..Bendy…………….Arsh/Eddy..

  601. Stu says:

    No Vermaelen Ja?

Seeing as we are at home i would start Eboue at right back too. Other than that i more or less agree with the team.

  602. A says:

Nasri was awesome against Sunderland Ja, but especially away he hasn’t taken responsibility alot of the time this season, just gives it simple rather than making stuff happen. Though not in last weekend’s game.

Why no Vermy in your line up??

I’d rest alot of players who are gonna start against Porto.

    Start Eboue, Sol, Vermy, Traore

    Cesc Denilson Merida/Nasri/Rosicky

    Nasri/Rosicky Bendtner Eduardo

That’s assuming Theo and Arshavin starting either side of Bendy for Porto, with Diaby and Song in midfield

  603. leon says:

i feel the next 5 games will determin weather this team will win the prem i feel delinson will most likely start next game but diaby will have part to play if fit as will aa but i have no dought that chelsea will bounce back they will drop points but to many so this must win every game for me there little margin for error

  604. A says:

Or maybe Rosicky against Porto rather than Theo, so Theo start against Burnley

  605. Stu says:

When are Gallas and Diaby due back? Surely if they are to start against Porto they should get some playing time against Burnley and/or Hull to get thir sharpness back.

  606. Stu says:

And Vela, whats the news on him. He hasnt featured in ages.

  607. A says:

    Porto is before Hull.

I wouldn’t say they need match sharpness, especially with Arshavin off out to Hungary, and the game coming on the Tuesday too with a short time to rest. I’d start Cesc, Eboue, Bendtner out of the starting XI for Porto, but hopefully we’d be comfortable enough to take them off give them a rest before the end of the Burnley game.

  608. Ja_Gunner says:

A…I know CBs dont need much rest…but that is exactly why I left Vermaelen out…I would rest him..remember he is carrying a niggling injury(that feared leg break)

I would rest Vermy against Burnley because it should be a comfortable game…I would get Gallas back in if he is fit to get his shrpness back….so thats why I would play this..I would also give Rosicky the day off so that he is 100% ready for Porto

    …………………Almunia……………………
    Sagna…….Gallas…….Sol/Silvest….CLichy/Armand
    ……………….Denilson/Eastmond……………..
    …..Cesc…………………………Nasri………
    ..Theo……..Bendy…………….Arsh/Eddy..

If we were comfortably leading Burnley in the second half I would make these subs

    Merida for Cesc
    Vela for Arsh/Eddy
    Eboue for Theo/Sagna

  609. gambon says:

Nasri is the most frustrating player in the team.

So much ability, but rarely does anything! I used to watch him at Marseille and he was much more exciting & direct.

  610. A says:

Vela was back in the squad for Sunderland Stu, and yesterday, but Wenger said he didn’t feature against Sunderland because he’s got a groin niggle, so only on the bench if we’re in trouble I guess.

I’d definitely start him against Burnley, if it wasn’t for the fact he’ll be kicking off his game for Mexico at 4am Thursday morning, so he won’t be even in the squad I’d imagine.

  611. Stu says:

Yeah thats right A. I was getting my dates mixed up.

  612. Ja_Gunner says:

I would play this team for Porto….
Note( This is assuming Diaby is out)

    ………………..Al…………………….
    Eboue…….Gallas………Vermaelen……..Clichy
    ………………..Song……………………
    …..Cesc…………………….Rosicky/Nasri….
    ..Theo…………..Bendy…………..Arshy…..

I play Eboue because we need to score goals…we cant afford to wait til the end of the game to step it up…Its very possible that they will come to the Emirates for a 0-0 draw…we cant let them get too comfortable…

  613. A says:

Yeah that’s what I’d go for Ja, though really hope Diaby is fit, and maybe Rosicky rather than Theo, but that’s a tough one.

  614. Stu says:

Porto would never play for a 0-0 imo Ja. Possible set up for counter attack so as to keep it tight at the back but sich an attacking team wouldnt set out for a draw…much the same as we would never do it.

For Hull i think Sol should be strongly considered because Hull have Altidore in fine form for them and he would easily get the better of Gallas and Vermaelen in a physical contest imo.

But then again we dont ever seem to select certain players just to combat the opposition so why start now.

  615. A says:

When we do do that we get beat Stu, like Stoke last season.

Hull shouldn’t be that easy, but shouldn’t be that hard. Poor man’s Stoke really.

  616. Pedro says:

A, did you see that Hull were the most fouled in the league?

    I was surprised.

Stu, agree there… it’s not in their make up and I don’t think they’re good enough to play for a 0-0

  617. Stu says:

We lost to Stoke last season because of stupidity. All our tall players were in midfield and attack and naturally arent that keen to attack a ball defensively. Silvestre, Toure and Almunia lost us that match because none of the attacked the ball despite it being in the 6 yard box.

ffs Toure didnt even jump for Fullers goal.

  618. A says:

Yeah I saw that Pedro, does surprise me, where is that stat from, is there a table of the other teams?

Stu imo we lost to Stoke because we tried to put in all our tall players, and therefore were never going to be able to click offensively and play our own game. Very poor decision imo

  619. ManGoonian says:

    Pedro;

That foul league is bull shit, as it has to be what the ref classes as a foul first mate. The amount of fouls we get against us that the refs wave away aint considered in this league table fella…

  620. Pedro says:

I’m not sure A… Chary is the master of those stats! He gets them from somewhere… maybe he compiles them himself!

  621. Stu says:

Yes A, and all our tall players were in attack which kept us shit defensively and stopped us being quick in attack.

That day we had no defenders over 6ft. Against a team like stoke i call that stupidity.

  622. ManGoonian says:

We lost to ZStoke last season coz we had no appetite for the fight and were goin thru some lacksidazical hiatus or something… I remember telling everyine on here to put their mortgage, or dole money on us getting beat that day!

  623. A says:

I wouldn’t say that made us shit defensively, not from set pieces anyways. Bendtner is one of our very best defensive players in the air, Diaby is decent when not heading into his own net, Song is pretty good, Ade even cleared a fair few when he could be bothered.

If we wanted to pick a team to combat Stoke’s set pieces then Wenger picked the right team, but the stupidity lay in trying to do that, when we should’ve taken advantage of their weaknesses, rather than trying to pick a team to defend against their strengths

    Ah ok Pedro

  624. ManGoonian says:

And dont forget, we were maimed by the stoke twats as well that day… the refs didnt exactly give us the protection we were entitield to that day….

  625. A says:

Mang we lost to Stoke because we dropped VP, Theo, Nasri for Song, Diaby, Bendtner, and that was when Song was in his “worst player to play for Arsenal” phase, Diaby was being written off by fans saying that he was never going to make it, and Bendtner was playing like a self-confessed sunday league player!

Yet they were all picked for their height, which was ridiculous imo.

  626. charybdis1966 says:

Pedders/A – I got the fouling stats from the BBC website for each match report. It was a case of going to each game report and adding up the fouls/yellows. A bit laborious but I was in one friday evening and had the time, Scarlet Johansen blew me out that night. :(

  627. ManGoonian says:

A; Although I really dont wanna go over past shit performances, I think we did play into Stokes hands as instead of playing our best 11, we played a team that, on paper was sposed to combat Stokes game plan… Plus last season, we contrived to put in some of the most lack lustre performances I have ever seen man…

But fuck that, its history and will be soon forgotten…

  628. gambon says:

    chary

    Yeah she blew me once.

..oh you said ‘blew me out’ :-)

  629. ManGoonian says:

    Samir;

Graham Poll has grown some finally…

  630. Pedro says:

Samir, someone told me Poll is actually a gooner! I reckon he read my rant last week and sorted his game out…

    Chary, that’s good stat gathering!

  631. charybdis1966 says:

    LOL Gambon.

  632. charybdis1966 says:

It’s the wonders of an hours excel drudgery Pedders – just like being at work !

  633. Pedro says:

Chary, I had that guy from 7am over here bitching the other day! He claimed Le Grove was formulaic…

  634. Pedro says:

I didn’t have the heart to say his best writer was a regular over here ;-)

  635. ManGoonian says:

When we played Bolton in 2003 ,we had 3 players taken off with injuries sustained by over the top challenges. The media said nuffin, apart from how Arsenal blew the league etc. I would like to know what these teams team talks were just prior to the games starting and at half time… coz I am sure they were full of hysterical macho bollocks about getting into those soft arsed Arsenal players and doin em….

It aint about malice, unless the player is a cunt like Barton, it is about using excessive force because they have been geed up by a cunt of a manager… encouraged by the constant media barrage that Arsenal are there to be kicked and sythed down…

  636. ManGoonian says:

    Pedro;

    Well, he has a point… :D

  637. ManGoonian says:

Poll aint a Gooner, never has been…. He is a Manc…

  638. Pedro says:

He’s a Yank Mang, he probably meant ‘fucking amazing’.

  639. Pedro says:

    Are you sure?

    Regardless, he’s still a cunt.

  640. Pedro says:

Ethan had a good idea… fine the clubs for the players misgivings…

  641. Pedro says:

    Properly though… not 2,500

  642. A says:

Ah ok chary, you sure you didn’t mistake fouls for with fouls against?!

  643. A says:

In the Fair play table for the prem they’re 17th, so 4th worst team for how dirty they are when it comes to cards

  644. charybdis1966 says:

I think it was the anti US stuff that was the thing Pedders. Still he runs a great site that makes me chuckle in my middle aged way.

  645. A says:

    1 Fulham 29 1 31
    2 Man City 34 2 38
    3 Arsenal 41 0 41
    4 Man United 34 4 42
    Burnley 38 2 42
    6 Blackburn 39 2 43
    7 Aston Villa 41 2 45
    8 Chelsea 38 4 46
    Everton 42 2 46
    Wigan Athletic 44 1 46
    11 Tottenham 47 1 49
    12 Birmingham 49 1 51
    13 Liverpool 42 5 52
    14 West Ham 47 3 53
    15 Wolves 48 3 54
    16 Bolton 51 2 55
    17 Hull City 49 4 57
    18 Stoke City 50 4 58
    19 Portsmouth 57 4 65
    20 Sunderland 55 6 67

That’s yellows, reds, and fair play points

  646. charybdis1966 says:

A – the yellows given and “fouls committed” were put next to the team, not fouls “suffered”. It tallies up with my experience of just about every game I’ve ever attended – foul upon foul on us and a yellow given eventually – first or second infringement by us and a yellow comes out straight away.

  647. ManGoonian says:

As I said already, these foul leaguen tables are not worth a shit, as they ahve to be con sidered a foul first by the refs and as we have witnessed time and again, the refs turn a fucking blind eye when we are on the receiveing end of opposition tackles and shit…

  648. gambon says:

    ManG

They also turn a blind eye when we make bad challenges ie- Gallas vs Bolton.

Referees in this country are just useless, they arent against us, they are making mistakes all over the place.

  649. charybdis1966 says:

ManG – the fouls I used were those actually penalised as such by the ref, .i.e. he blew up for them – of course those not called are another issue open to conjecture.

  650. Keyser says:

gambon – So you truly think there’s no difference when it comes to how referee’s treat us as opposed to other teams ?!

  651. gambon says:

    Keyser

I think the standard in this country is appalling, but i dont think there’s a concious conspiracy against us.

  652. Pedro says:

Chary, they’re not very good a poking fun at themselves… maybe that’s more of a British thing.

  653. Pedro says:

Keyser, I have to agree with Gambon, there’s not conspiracy…

Stoke rough everyone up… we’re just more susceptible to it because we’re light weight compared to other clubs.

  654. gambon says:

Here’s an interesting fact from the half year results.

Between them Ade & Kolo were on £150k pw.

So does that mean Kolo was on £70k pw?

  655. A says:

ah ok chary, so were Hull the most fouled team, or the team that committed the most fouls??

  656. Pedro says:

Gambon, I think we bonus our players up to their eyeballs…

  657. ManGoonian says:

    Gambon;

Oh come on mate! Look at the foul booking count yesterday. Song gets booked while Stoke platyers get off man…. We shouldve had 3 penalties FFS! Gallas is the exception to the rule… Its like that cunt Cundy saying we are just as bad for doin Terry (which was funny!) as a retort to the 3 career threatening assaults we have suffered…

  658. Pedro says:

I think Cundy is sleeping with JT…

  659. Pedro says:

You can’t take a booking in isolation to prove the refs hate us…

  660. Gooby says:

and we have skillfull players with quick feet. it gets opponents frustrated

  661. gambon says:

    Pedro

No that was £150k from the wage bill, which i assume means the basic salaries theyre on.

  662. charybdis1966 says:

Yeah, a different quality of humour Pedders – I mean I think “Two and a half men” is a hoot, while I find Little Britain too vulgar for my sensibilities.

As for Hull A, I’m guessing it’s fouls against Hull, although that doesn’t seem to make sense but Hull weren’t in my table of matches I looked at so I don’t know.

  663. Pedro says:

Gambon, wouldn’t it all go in the same pot?

  664. Pedro says:

Chary, have you seen Peep Show?

  665. ManGoonian says:

    Gambon/Pedro;

I dont think there is a concerted effort on the part of refs to fuck us up, however, there definitely is a bias, in favour of big name England players and for what ever reason, some refs seem incapable of penalising certain players for fouls, as well as bad mouthing officials… We suffer as as a result of the widely held belief that we are a team of foregin fancy dans, it is most probably subconscious, but the constant media mantra about us being soft targets comes into play, IMO…

The amount of tackles it takes for us to get bookings compared to opposition players kind of bares that shit out to me, anyway…

  666. Gooby says:

united are pathetic about rooney, red nose:

“He got a whack right away,” said Ferguson.

“He has been complaining a little about that for a few weeks and was holding it a bit today.

“In fact, I thought we might have to take him off but he wanted to stay on so it was good.

“The doctors are assessing it and I don’t know what England are going to do.”

always happen before a friendly. no coincidence. chavs and mancs always do it(ballack, fat franck…) roooney will be running like a baboun next weekend, mugs

  667. Honest Bill says:

    Peep show is hilarious

  668. gambon says:

    Another interesting one.

At the same age, here are the respective PL scoring stats for Cesc, Gerrard, Lampard.

    Gerrard 5 in 34 games
    Lampard 7 in 30 games
Cesc 13 in 24 games so far

He would also be much higher in assists as well.

That underlines just how far ahead of these guys Cesc is for his age. We absolutely have to keep him, whatever the cost.

I actually think when we look back in 10 years we’ll be talking about a guy who was as good as Zidane.

  669. ManGoonian says:

Cundy is bound to be sleeping with Terry, everyone in his vicinity is, for some reason…

  670. Pedro says:

ManG, I agree on the England thing totally… that’s why I think foreign refs might be the answer.

When I managed Sunday league last year, we went with the one person talks to the ref rule… no back chat.

In the end, it worked against us because decisions didn’t go our way.

I know it’s horrible, but sometimes, if you can’t beat them… join them. If United, Chelsea and Liverpool get away with it, maybe we should get involved?

  671. Keyser says:

Pedro – It’s not about conspiracies or hate, it’s more subtle than that, and I don’t think there’s anything lightweight about Ramsey either.

We matched Stoke all over the park yesterday, and somehow the only yellow of the game went to Song.

It’s like the Eduardo thing, do I think the refs decided we must always be cheating ? No, but do I think the whole media thing planted something in their mind, I think yes.

  672. gambon says:

I agree that certain England players may get a lot of favourable treatment.

  673. Pedro says:

    Great stats Gambon…

The amazing thing about Cesc at the moment is even when he’s off his game, he produces.

  674. Stu says:

Gooby, not to forget Livershit do it with Gerrard quite often too.

Before the final kicked off they story with Rooney was that he was ill and sat out the last training session because of it. Its apparently a kick he got now…clearly a load of bullshit.

  675. Gooby says:

cesc is going to be the best in the world.

  676. Pedro says:

That Diamond club member I mentioned was at the training ground in the week and said that Rosicky and Fabregas are amazing finishers in training and display unbelievable technical ability.

  677. ManGoonian says:

    Gambon;

I think Cesc has not only developed as a player, but his performances as a captain and human being recently have been exemplory… Yesterday he was immense, during the game ad in his post match interviews… The man is a legend…

  678. A says:

Adding up fouls there isn’t actually that much of a difference between the number of fouls we suffer, and concede. Average of 14.2 fouls against us per game, 12.5 conceded by us

  679. Gooby says:

    yeah stu,

if we had done this we may have kept RvP. hope cesc doesn’t play for spain. although the french don’t play too rough? they are usually proper tacklers

  680. Pedro says:

Kesyer… by light weight, I’m talking literally.

    He’s a kid… talented, quick and tenacious… but not very heavy…

I guess if the refs do read the papers, they are going to be affected by the media.

No ref wants to give a penalty for a dive… that’s why I gave Eduardo so much shit when he did it… because it’ll always be the club that pays for diving in the long run.

  681. Pedro says:

Right chaps, I’m off, have a great night!

  682. ManGoonian says:

The thing is though, it not only works for the England players, it helps their team mates too! Look at Vidic today, he should have been sent off, and a few other mancs should have been booked too… Villa have a fair few England players, but obviously they aint as high profile as Rooney so they had to suffer!!

  683. gambon says:

    ManG

I think thats a bit of a stretch. Refs love Rooney so they wont send off Vidic?!

  684. ManGoonian says:

    Pedro;

Night, but saying the diver’s team pays aint really true… We have a player who dives ONCE! We have paid for that all season, yet the likes of gerrard, Rooney and others before them are guilty of it yet donjt pay any consequences…. We are the cheats in the eyes of the media…

  685. Gooby says:

    i m reading paul merson’s predictions.

he got our result right 3-1

also blew it by predicting a 3 nil for chelski, those wankers got humiliated instead

  686. ManGoonian says:

    Gambon;

Vidic was the last man, he didnt even get a yellow card man… As well as a few other mancs who deserved bookings… But thats probably just the pro United bias, not putting it all on Rooney!

  687. Gooby says:

    nite

  688. A says:

The Hull fouls thing does surprise me, they average 14.96 fouls against them per game, 14.89 fouls by them, but some really weird games.

Against Liverpool they only fouled them 5 times, Liverpool fouled Hull 11, and Liverpool won 6-1

  689. A says:

gambon it’s more that refs love utd/fergie and are scared to send them off, as well as loving the players a bit much!

  690. ManGoonian says:

I think a refs job is fucking almost impossible, players cheat all the time, for every little thing, not just dives, but throw ins FFS! Their job is made even harder by clueless pundits who scream for consistency, yet aint even consistent in their criticisms… What also doesnt help is the media picking and choosing which incidents to highlight and blow out of proportion… In the same week as Eduardo falling over Boruc we had Ashley Young diving not once, but twice in a game the day after. Did we hear about it? Did we fuck!

  691. Stu says:

There is no logcial reason as to why Vidic didnt get sent off. He was last man, pulling Gabbys shirt, and tripped him to give the pk away.

Dont say it was too early in the match because thats bullshit. It was a red card offence and should have sent him off.

Villa got 2 bookings from 2 fouls, then Carrick fouled some Villa midfielder and the ref just waved him away. Its not a bias towards english players at united…its just a united bias. If the ref gives something against them Fergie will go ape-shit and they’ll get the worst of it.

  692. Keyser says:

gambon – Like in almost everything, the richest and most powerful people/clubs get preferential treatment and can use it to their advantage.

We’re just too nice to exploit it, and people in this country confuse surrounding the ref and going into tackles with the sort of force Shawcross did as a sign of passion and commitment, there’s no co-incidence that Shawcross broke Ramsey’s leg and Gallas didn’t break the Bolton players.

Referee’s are poor overall, I think the level the Premiership has got to has made it a lot harder for them, but I don’t think it’s a co-incidence say, that Vidic didn’t get sent off today, 5 mins into a Cup-final no Enlgish referee is going to send off a Manchester United player.

Didn’t take long for the ref in the Champions League final to make his decision though.

  693. Stu says:

What about fouls that the ref plays advantage for? DO they get counted?

  694. ManGoonian says:

When we were supposedly a dirty team, how many legs, ankles did we break? I cant remember…

Can you imagine if we had smashed the bones of 3 English players in 4 years…

  695. gambon says:

    ManG

Its not like the same team were responsible for all of our breaks, it was 3 different teams.

  696. A says:

Keyser imo reffing should be unified throughout Europe to create an overall accepted standard, refs rotating from country to country etc

  697. ManGoonian says:

    Gambon;

That is the problem, it is a given tactic and standard practice for these teams to go in hard against us…

Look, I aint saying Shawcross went in to do Aaron, however, yet again an opposing player went in with enough force to break an Arsenal players leg…

How many other players has this happened to? Apart from Modric, I cant think of one…

  698. gambon says:

    Djibril Cisse, Alan Smith.

  699. ManGoonian says:

I aint saying it doesnt happen, but it is fucking rare to happen to one club in a pretty short period… Then again, obviously our players are made of bolsa wood… Is that it?

  700. Stu says:

Gambon, do you even remember those leg breaks. Smith was blocking a shot and Cisse was a tangle of legs when he was running at full pelt.

Neither of those leg breaks were because of an oppo player going in hard. FACT!

  701. A says:

Cisse and Smith were different though weren’t they – neither were bad tackles, they were unfortunate tangles of legs/bad falls.

I really do think it’s significant that all three of ours in the last 5 years have been bad tackles, by English players, managed by English managers, who were towards the bottom of the table, encompassing the “English fighting spirit” that’s so glorified in this country, Bulldog spirit etc.

  702. ManGoonian says:

I recall the likes of David Buust ( I think) breaking his leg and it was big news as that kinda injury rarely occured… Now its all part of the game and we should just accept it and move on, its a man’s game after all…. The fact it aint happened to an England player before a big International tournament is by the by…Oh hold on a minute, can you recall the abuse dished out to that Argentinian fella who did Beckhams metatarsal??? Now that was vicious…

  703. gambon says:

    Stu

Thats my point. Legs break, it doesnt always mean its an awful challenge. What happened yesterday woulve largely gone unnoticed if it wasnt for the broken leg. 99 times out of 100 no bones are broken.

    ManG

Who knows. Maybe its a coincidence, maybe it isnt. Ian Wright broke his leg 3 times, im sure he never said there was a cinspiracy against him.

  704. Ja_Gunner says:

    Gambon..you always quote stats…

Dont you think its significant that it has happened to to one team 3 times 4 years…

Remember it happened to Abou In May 2006…

Again remember these injuries are rare..therefore if it happens to one team 3 times in 4 years….then you have to say its significant…

Its because its the accepted tactic against Arsenal..its as simple as that….

They might not intend to end player;s careers but they certainly do play us extra physical

  705. Stu says:

Obviously not all breaks are because of awful tackles but when the break is at the hands (or should that be feet) or another player then it is an awful tackle imo, otherwise there would have been no break.

  706. A says:

ian wright broke his leg because of his nature, it was generally him doing crazy things, no conspiracy, but it was because of the way he was.

We’ve suffered broken legs because of the natures of the teams they play against us, and the way they are against us.

  707. ManGoonian says:

    A;

I have said it before and I will say it again… This English preocupation with grit, overly physical challenges and a clinging onto a past where by “doing” an opponent was fair game and an acceptable tactic is holding us back… The only problem is we do not produce enough players of sufficient technique to erase this from our national sport…

  708. ManGoonian says:

What did Abou do wrong that merited him getting fucked up for a year> Nothing, he was done by a clogger who was just pissed off his team was being outplayed and wanted to dish it out…. Eduardo was done by a playewr who wanted to show his more talented and techniquely gifted opponent that he wasnt gonna be in for an easy game… Completely over the top and unneccesary “challenge” and Ramsey… he was the victim of a given and accepted belief that to unsettle Arsenal, one has to go in hard… No malice, obviously, but the manager has told us to get stuck in…

  709. A says:

Yep, agree 1 billion percent Mang, even studied that in a module at uni!

Technique and genuine footballing ability is put on par with what is essentially thuggishness as a positive when assessing a player in England!

And technical players are looked down upon almost if they aren’t thugs!

Diving means players are the scum of the earth, but intentional fouling, blocking players etc, except in extreme cases, is “clever defending” or “experience”

    etc etc etc….

I don’t blame Shawcross nor Pulis as some do, they’re just victims of the culture they’re playing in, and have been brought up in, and caricatures of that element of our game.

  710. Ja_Gunner says:

I am watching the replay of the game..I dont think Shawcross was actually crying…

He looked as if he was forcing it….didnt look all that genuine to me…..maybe I am biased….

BUt he really looked as if he was forcing the tears out….now everyone is feeling sorry for him…

    Shawcross actually looks retarded….

  711. Stu says:

100% agree there Ja_. I saw no tears either…just an ugly face.

  712. ManGoonian says:

    A;

We live in a country where the consensus amongst the ex-pro pundits is that to spit in an oppnents face is far worse than breaking their leg… Never mind having foreign refs, the more foreign players we have as pundits might help the situation… The likes of Andy Townsend and Mark Lawrenson are relics from a past I would rather forget…

  713. Stu says:

Exactly MG, most of the pundits see little to nothing wrong with leg breaking challenges because when they played football it was the ONLY way to stop the opposition.

  714. Ja_Gunner says:

Yeah Stu..he was making ugly faces and trying to force some tears out…it didnt look natural at all..and as someone else said he only started to do all that when he saw the red card…..

Oh well lets just hope we can win the league for Ramsey because he will get a medal as well..its a pity Sol cant get one too….

The medals should be given to even players making one appearance in my opinion…

Reason being…look what Macheda did for Manure last season….he only made a couple appearances but he scored 2 vital goals(the last one being a deflection)

BUt the point is a player could make one appearance and make enough impact to affect the outcome of the league…..

  715. ManGoonian says:

Basically it all boils down to English Imperialism…. We cannot accept that we invented the game, yet are are 2nd rate in football, as we can’t accept we are 2nd rate in terms of a world power… We need to be top dogs in something FFS! If we lose the right to go in hard, call it firm but fair, not malicious, trot out statements about how the perpitrator is a good lad, loves his mum and adopts orphaned, we are seriously doomed!!!

  716. Keyser says:

gambon – When did Ian Wright break his leg three times ? The games supposed to have moved on since then and it’s supposed to be a lot less physical yet, in the last 4 years we’ve had 3 players break their legs, how many does it take before you think there might be some sort of correlation here ?!

  717. A says:

Speaking of diving and such like as well, foreigners all divers British players honest etc etc, I was at Sampa Fiorentina couple of weeks ago, and it struck me that British players are just better divers! Players in the Spanish or Italian leagues don’t dive more than those in the Prem, but they just aren’t as good, when they dive they’re twice as flamboyant, arch their backs, flail their arms all over the place, whereas the likes of Young and Gerrard are much more quintessentially English, more reserved and subtle in their diving!

A serie A player will arch his back, flail his arms, and roll 37 times, but Gerrard or Rooney will just drag their feet trying to make contact, going down so that should contact not happen, it could just be that they lost their balance, and the look to the ref wasn’t a hopeful one….

  718. ManGoonian says:

    A;

That is some un patriotic shit there fella!

Are you suggesting we are actually a world leader in something??? :D

  719. AndAPrayer says:

I don’t think Shawcross wanted to injure Ramsay but it seems to be yet another unfortunate product of the “in their face” tactics adopted by certain managers and that the media continues to perpetuate as tactically valid.

There has been a significant part of the media suggesting that Arsenal play too quick a football and that some teams struggle to cope with this, thus meaning such injuries are bound to happen. I would counter that if a team is unable match Arsenal within the rules of the game then they should not be allowed to profit through reckless lunges whether they happen to cause injury or not. Tackles like Shawcross’ seem to be made in an effort to force the better team to not compete for 50/50s for fear of injury and such an attitude should not belong in the game. Teams should be scared of committing fouls against a superior opposition rather than said opposition being scared of receiving them as seems to have become the accepted norm, especially when Arsenal play less adept footballing sides.

Within the game itself I see challenges such as Shawcross’ as a lesser evil than the constant niggly fouls Arsenal suffer as those are there purely to foul rather than to compete but the consequences of these over-zealous lunges is potentially far more devastating and both aspects can be directly attributed to certain managers trying to counter better teams with tactics that go beyond what is reasonable.

It is up to the FA and referees to adjust and the rules and their enforcement to root out such approaches. This could be most easily done by actually blowing for fouls and carding where needed, no matter how early in the game. I would also like to see referees speaking to the captains and letting them know that the next player on their side who breaches the rules will be carded (as done in rugby), hopefully stopping the team wide fouling used by certain clubs.

It would also be good to see certain pundits shut up about their frankly mundanely stupid and incorrect views regarding the rules (Lawrenson is the prime example). If a player deserves a card in the first minute the pundit should not bemoan the referee for using it even if it “ruins the game as a spectacle”.

Here’s hoping that Aaron has a speedy and completely successful recovery and also that the resilience shown by the team in getting the win under difficult circumstances can continue for the rest of the season and lead us to the trophy.

(Might post this tomorrow as well as I think it’s says what I’m thinking well).

  720. A says:

Ha I do apologise Mang, Rule Britannia and all that…. It was just something that struck me when I was watching the game in person – an objective observation. The number of dives wasn’t dissimilar from a Premiership game, but they were just SOOOO bad at diving, whereas it’s something that Gerrard, Rooney and Ashley Young are extremely skilled at….

Maybe it is just a cultural thing, British prudishness vs continental flamboyancy?!

  721. AndAPrayer says:

On the English thing: I’m not sure I agree Mangoonian. England do have some very good and skillful players it’s just that they also have some truly woeful ones, but so does every country.

The trouble is in England the difference between skillful and wholehearted is whitewashed over in a media led shitfest that basically stops the national team stepping up to where it should be. I’m not suggesting the England team is the best in the world at all (it isn’t) but it’s not as bad as some would have you believe. It would just be a lot better if certain players weren’t held a high simply for running around a lot and going in “full bloooded”. Not only does it becoming achingly embarrassing when those players play against very good teams like the current Spanish team but it also stops the cream from rising to the top as those who are just very good at doggy paddling keep getting encouraged along with it.

  722. ManGoonian says:

I just think we British are just too reserved and dont like to blow our own trumpets… We are world class at diving, yet are too self conscious and humble to shout it from the roof tops!

This kicking Arsenal out of games started with man United and their over the top fouls on Reyes and his team mates… it has been an acceptable tactic ever since…

If it is OK for Fergies mob, then that means the rest can do like wise…

    Nighty night…

    All the best Aaron…

  723. ManGoonian says:

England have a ,lot of skillful players And a Prayer, trouble is, the way these players are coached, they get overlooked in favour of the big lumps due to the ancient training methods and practices… Just sign up the big lumps who dont mind dishing it out…

  724. ManGoonian says:

FFS! I have to get up in 4 hours…

  725. AndAPrayer says:

MG – agreed, it will be interesting to see how Wenger’s up and coming English players who seem to be pretty good (as we know) will be greeted by the media when they realise that they aren’t going to play like the average English shire horse.

In some ways (and I’m loathed to say it) the fact that Rooney and Gerrard and a few others are as good as they are despite the coaching makes me think what could have been had the coaching been better (not this season for Gerrard obviously and I hate admitting that the twats are good at all).

  726. ethangunner says:

    that’s a ridiculous statement A !

the English game is faster , tougher
and if you think the English players dive better ,its only because they have a thing called Reflex action , it helps you avoid contact in a high paced game ..

the theatrics of European and south American teams far supersedes the English game ..

Ronaldo was a prime example , every dive a European award for best actor .
But so dramatic its clearly fake ..

thank fuck he’s back in Spain where he can now do it all day long and they lap it up !

Also Ref’s arent fuckin stupid !
they catch 95% of the play , and the Brit Refs are brutal !

thats why we DONT DIVE ..

and yes some are good at diving eboue springs to mind , he’s done some classics ..

    Dudu …

    we are all guilty ..
but i think the Italians are still the best at it ….

  727. A says:

“thats why we DONT DIVE .. ”

lol, that’s one of the funniest things I’ve read in a long time!

Gerrard and Young are the two biggest divers in the league by some distance, both in terms of the ridiculous ways they try and cheat when there’s no chance of a foul, the way they throw themselves over, and the number of times they try it EVERY game!

There is just as much diving in the English game, but foreigners are just more dramatic, more flamboyant.

Eboue compared to Gerrard is a perfect example, though Eboue has calmed it down a bit. Gerrard and Young have ALWAYS dived more often, and in situations where they’re trying to cheat much more, but they dive in an English fashion, a Franny Lee fashion, the kicking the ball past someone, and dragging of the legs as they throw themselves to the ground to manufacture contact.

The Italians aren’t good at it at all, they’re REALLY bad at it! It’s just that we’ve gotten good at it, so you have to look at replays over and over again to see if it was a dive or a genuine foul, the British have become amazingly skilled at it. Whereas everytime an Italian goes down the flailing of the arms, arched back, and rolly pollies mean that you can’t miss it.

  728. A says:

Though actually that our not diving thing could well be tongue in cheek, like the AA23 comment earlier, in which I apologise, and agree with how ridiculous it is the British mentality that some people genuinly think that, and that diving was brought to England by foreigners, ignoring our history!

  729. ethangunner says:

think about it .. in simple terms A …

how many fatal accidents happen in a car park ? and how many happen on a freeway ?

players like theo and cesc get straight back up again because they know OUR refs wont buy it 90% of the time ..

i have nothing against drawing a foul ..
its done in all sports ..

if someone is playing on you heavy you push back ,

here … i think there is one english player here in the whole lot … with cameo’s from bobby and jens .. BOTH NOT ENGLISH :)

    crespo’s ones a classic :)

  730. leon says:

a what realy impressed me about the players is they matched stoke and showed they stand up there style but i feel there a bit of confusion between tough tackling and recklessness steve bruce bold adams keon these are the old school defenders and they tough rugid defenders but they new how make clean tackles yes they got some of players sometimes but they got the ball first and new how time there tackles they know way they would have made such clumsy reckless tackle like that, so what if this players was crying is tears will try up soon enough and ramsey will be out good long long while thanks to this players recklessness

  731. ethangunner says:

    A

you obviously don’t watch A lot of other football then other than the EPL ..

    broaden your horizons ..
some of the most blatant classic dives EVER go to European and south American football ..

cheating is a part of the game there ..
everything from match fixing to diving …

anyhow why do you waffle on about the most Unimportant subjects in history and drone on about it sprinkling the stats about like some pre-rehearsed school play /?

    Your a Rare Bear …

  732. AndAPrayer says:

Ethan – English players seem to rarely adopt the purely ridiculous ones shown in this clip as I genuinely think they’d never be able to live it down when they next go to the pub.

They do, however, dive just as much as anyone else with some (Gerrard) doing it more than most. Just because they avoid the purely crazy ones doesn’t mean they don’t do it.

Also, does anyone else think that Pires just looks like he loses his balance in that clip? He did some great dives so it seems an odd choice to use.

  733. ethangunner says:

    ———————
stoke were all over us for 30 minutes
testing al with long bombs and scoring 1st ..

you make it sound like they didnt turn up …

as ever we had a better 2nd half … WHATS NEW ?

  734. leon says:

ethan yes they scored early but we scored we all over them and the team stood up there style extremly well at the first half arsenal had them and in second half sorry but arsenal were starting dominate stoke and they way i see it at this point in time its not hwo well you play its about getting result and we did and that all that matters and showed alot stronger mentaly

  735. ethangunner says:

    &aprayer .

yes i think the game is getting a bit to quick for poor old bobby in that clip and perfectly ear marks what im implying …

you have less time for decision making in a fast paced league like the EPL…

and if any of them fluffs happened in the EPL
(from the above clips) it would be in the tabloids for weeks ( like dudu’s one)
which i thought was crap , he was just avoiding contact .. and given his recent injury …
    SO WOULD I !
an instant knee jerk reaction of self preservation in fast paced game to avoid a collision ….

But the above CLIP happens every week in Europe !
yet somehow we have the best divers in the world :)

  736. ethangunner says:

    leon

we did well V’s villa also then slumped V’s the chev’s and man U …

i dont know what your trying to imply but i think the table is an accurate reflection of form in the EPL …

1-2-3-4 are all were they should be …

its now up to Arsenal to lift it a knotch ..

    can they do it >?>

    time will tell …

the Ramsey thing wont help …..

give the players a few days to reflect ,TO DREAM ABOUT IT , its exactly the same as post dramatic stress syndrome .

i hope wenger doesn’t make a fuss and just gets down and professional , we will get a more sympathetic view from the media if wenger doesn’t cry like a baby about it ….

  737. leon says:

ethan how do you expect wenger to react to such a reckless chalenge mean ramsey is out at least 6 months if he is realy lucky wenger extremly angry and he has a right to be and as for media wenger could not acre less about that he has alway s been very protective of his players no matter what the media as has to say,i think players deminstrated there mental toughness and the fact they have player slike sole around has been huge help.the fact is with fixtures we have left is laot easier than both manu and chelsea this best ever chance of winning the prem

  738. ethangunner says:

sure leon in private wenger should be using it as motivation ..

but to create a media circus about it only piles pressure on our players on the pitch …

———–the fact is with fixtures we have left is laot easier than both manu and chelsea this best ever chance of winning the prem
    ————————————
yes and if we still dont end up winning what will that tell you ?

because your not listening to me now :)

  739. ethangunner says:

Leon im a great believer in the law of averages .
and may the best man win !

in our back to back year the best men won …
pretty much in most seasons the EPL winner is deservedly so ..

    points accumulation cannot lie ..

i do think the chev’s will choke and Man U will skip past AGAIN … like usual …

    OR

    the law of averages

  740. ethangunner says:

and sure we always have a chance like you said
if we take it game by game and dont let outside influences affect the team .. we ALWAYS have a shot …

im worried V’s the manc’s mkII and the spuds …
they are both teams with a point to prove and if wenger goes in light , it will be carnage ..

those 2 games could wreck us …
the engraver is far from penciling in any name on that cup currently …

and only a fool would predict an outcome ..

  741. ethangunner says:

but its clearly a 3 horse race now ,

so the odds are looking far better than usual ill give you that :)

  742. ethangunner says:

if wenger should be stating anything it should be that , its a 3 horse race and we are hungry !

dedicate each game to Rambo … and focus …

if wenger de-rails over this tackling business
he could be the catalysis for defeat

  743. leon says:

ethan i dont think wenger will wont to make a big circus over it he said just down the fa and he should leave at that i thought after the tackle and the way the palyers shaken up by it i though they would choke i think this best chance of winning prem however weather manu winns will depend on rooney if gets injured that huge dent for them i feel also if we can keep aa diaby song cesc edwardo fit great chance chelsea will not drop many more points though

  744. leon says:

ethan i ahve agree chelsea have choked several times this season realy with squad of players thwy have they should at least 15 point sahead of arsenal, and i feel arsenal real threat is manu

  745. ethangunner says:

    Leon

the fixtures do favor us , but by no means is the spuds or man shitty a cake walk , once those games are done and over im sure our fate will be all but revealed ..

until then its going to be good football ..
and its always good football whilst your still in with a shout …

thats why i cant abide by dropping out of 2 cups every season … half the fun to be had ..

at the end of the day …

  746. ethangunner says:

and a bit of a cop out if you were led to believe all the TOP FLIGHT CLUB banter our management describe us as …

top flight clubs by definition are clubs who could easily do cup doubles, trebles ..

sorry i dont feel it with this team even if we
jag it this season .. plenty of tinkering still needs to be done

    FUCKIN PLENTY ……

    startin with Alumina !

  747. leon says:

ethan i can kind of understand wenger policy because for if this were to win carling cup and finish in 5th place i would not be to happy with that for the fa cup game i realy cant blame wenger for on this season against stoke we injuries all over the place plus champeons legue game as well and he still put on his big guns as well in the second half however this team need to win something bad and having bigger squad would have helped manu have been lucky roony has stayed injury free

  748. jaymin says:

so then ethan, even should we prove to have been the most consistent team over a grueling 38 week campaign, punctuated by horrible refereeing, media witch hunting the likes of which would not be uncommon to eccentric young women in salem circa 1600, and a season ending injury to the best player on our team in November, we will have “jag[ed]” it (sic)? my god man, you are something special!

  749. ethangunner says:

yes but if you considered yourself ‘TOP FLIGHT’ (as management does)
you wouldnt finish 5th would you ?

    EVER :)

so thats not an option , when i considered us top flight we were NEVER OUT OF THE TOP 2 !

and if we did ever finish 5th it might jolt our board to start crackin out the money clips .

if we dont win this season id rather finish 5th :)

we might buy some REAL players ;)

  750. ethangunner says:

    winning the double …
    REMEMBER THAT ANYONE ?!?!?!

how can you say the FA cup is shite when in the same breath us as fans fondly remember winning the EPL and FA cup double as almost the pinnacle of Arsenal all time achievements …

its our main highlights under wengers reign .
Ever in fact … well in the modern terms .

too right cups off like the FA ,is doing yourself a disservice to the fans ..

what sort of message does it send about the clubs ambition ?!

  751. jaymin says:

leon, if we won the FA cup and League cup double and came in 5th place we would lose tens of millions of dollars. Fair or just? hell no. True, though

  752. Jonathan says:

    Ethan,
We’re not in the shoes of Wenger, so we’ll never know why certain decisions he’s made WERE made. But if anything’s clear, the weight of the BPL trophy outweighs that of the FA cup. He probably understands that he’ll risk contention for the BPL title if he’s to go all guns blazing for the FA Cup. You’ve already said our squad strength isn’t all that impressive; so what makes you think Wenger’s confident that we’ll pull off a double?

He’s probably trying to increase our chances of lifting the BPL trophy than end up with neither the FA cup, or the BPL title and ending up in positions lower than 4th. But as it stands, I say we get behind our team and let is show when we play the remainder of the games this season. The game against Stoke is no-doubt an eye opener for the lads.

  753. ethangunner says:

    Jonathan

take each game as it comes and play your best players , not have them on the bench until needed .

rather start them , get them to do the job ,then sub em off …

if we did that they would be chasing us now !

  754. bnsb says:

    Good morning all.

    Ethan

None of the next 10 games are going to be easy ones. Our team is edgy and nervous in the first 20 minutes of game.

  755. bnsb says:

    Kushagra

From the link you pointed out:

The bad news is that Sven Goran Eriksson will not be going to the World Cup as coach of Nigeria after all. The good news is that a Nigerian chief still wants to give him £500,000 and all he has to do is email back his bank details. So things are looking up :)

  756. Jonathan says:

Well Ethan, I’m guessing that everyone prefers it that way, including myself. Like mentioned earlier, we’ll never know exactly what Wenger has in mind but he’s made some pretty strange calls; that I agree.

Football has always been subjective; nothing’s definite or absolute. If Wenger did play the best teams for the Cup contentions, who knows where we’ll be standing now. In the running for a treble, a double or in the worst case, out of the title race altogether, we’ll never know.

All I DO know, is that following our last premier league game, I’m gonna get behind the boys because they’ve put up with so much rubbish, it’s hard to imagine them NOT winning the league this season. We’ve need to have a SAY this season, wouldn’t you agree mate?

  757. ethangunner says:

    Jonathan

He’s probably trying to increase our chances of lifting the BPL trophy than end up with neither the FA cup
    ————————–
odds are we will end up with neither anyhow ..
whilst we are in with a shout we are hardly odds on certainties .

I dont like wengers mindset , its very defeatist … it makes me feel the same …

negitivity breeds , and id prefer wenger to take each game seriously .. from scratch matches to C.L finals …

  758. ethangunner says:

    bnsb Says:

None of the next 10 games are going to be easy ones. Our team is edgy and nervous in the first 20 minutes of game.
    ———————–
    Agreed …

but on paper we ‘Should’ be favorites ..

i suppose what im saying wenger HAS the ability to choose a strong team for each of the remaining games ..

If he does so or not …. well thats the gray area isnt it …

Eg eboue back to right wing ..

    enuf said …

  759. nishanth says:

We absolutely must win every home game. The away games will always be tough. And you can be sure of the fact phil brown, allardyce, alex mcleish all will do their fucking best to stop us from winning it.

I just hope we come out all guns blazing.I just hate this waiting for the opposition to get tired tatic. Also goal difference might play a big part.

  760. bnsb
Yep there are some very funny kinda clowns that make most of the world’s population

  761. ethangunner says:

    Jonathan

he has fielded far better ‘squads’ since Christmas i admit, but at the start he made some poor team selections and they were due to being reluctant to over use his regulars for fear of injury …

    very apparent ..

  762. nishanth says:

Ethan-In case if we get into latter stages of UCL it might affect his selection in the league games. At most we have 16 more games to play this season.I am pretty sure all our players can handle that. And they all must be relatively fresh.Except for vermaelen and song every other player in our team has missed a few games with injuries.

  763. Nishanth
    Happy Holi

  764. Jonathan says:

    Ethan,
It’s apparent indeed. I completely detest the mindset of a defeatist as well, but what’s in the past is in the past. We’re all at some level “unamused” with Wenger’s selections at times, but now is where he needs to make the vital and right calls for us to lift silverware this season.

And there’s only one clear way in doing that. Playing our best team for each and every game remaining. It’s just as you’ve said and I concur to that much on your end.

  765. nishanth says:

    Happy holi kushagra!!!..where you from?

  766. nishanth says:

Also does anyone think we should continue with campbell as our CB?He has been excellent and gives us the strength that gallas can’t offer.I think wenger should rotate between those 3 and keep them fresh.Vermaelen could do with a rest.

  767. Jonathan says:

    Nishanth,
Sol has been integral for us! Aside from him being a former gooner, to see him boost our team morale and to bring about the ol’ Gunner spirit is a joy to watch. I agree with you there. Rotation between them sounds bloody fantastic.

And where are you guys from by the way, Sabeel, Nishanth and Kushagara? I fly to India quite frequently due to work.

  776. zeus says:

no doubt they can handle it fitness wise .
just result wise is my concern :)

we must start scoring 1st …

despite what people said about our grit when
facing stoke and what happened to rambo , i cant help but think if we put the game to bed before the 1st half rambo might still be walking now …

  783. ethangunner says:

and that wont happen when players like eboue are back at RM and rosicky is on the bench ….

shuffle it and play your best 11 …

  784. bnsb says:

Re the Big Sol comments, his experience seems to cover for his lack of pace, & yes he has added something. I can’t help but think about Geoffs idea of Vermy between the backs & midfielders when Billy G comes back. We only need to win 1-0 to get 3 points.

  786. gnarleygeorge9 says:

  808. ethangunner says:

yes i said it when we were all debating who was going to take over from song during the ANC ..
but glad Geoff took it on board , as its a epic idea ..

and one that would work well …

he loves a shot and he has a clinical edge too him … great at CD ,a real defender to cover the back 4 .. but could be so much as a DM …

and whilst sol wants a game , once gallas comes back … why not …

  812. ethangunner says:

plus a class defender is usually cheaper than a top shelf midfield player so wenger could elevate TV , save some cash and get 2 new CD’s in during the summer and 1 striker …

get shay given away from that crappy outfit up north ..
banish almunia to the bench ….

    job done :)

  813. nishanth says:

If all that has happened doesn’t inspire denilson to put a decent performance then nothing will.

  814. gnarleygeorge9 says:

    bnsb

Its ironic that gooby says move to the top of the table @ spuds, then you say Geoff drunk & passed out. Spuville is the place he threw down 50 pints or so when we clinched the Title in the invincibles year.

  815. iceman says:

I’d drink to that mate :)

  816. bnsb says:

Just to play is “back breaking” for Denilson now. While everyone wishes Ramsey well, I have not seen a single soul wish Denilson recovery from back problems, on the contrary… :)

  817. gnarleygeorge9 says:

    *spudville

  818. nishanth says:

Tevez is brilliant.I wish we had signed him

  819. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Tevez is like a terrier, he just chases the ball, he wants it so bad.

Gotta say this. When Shitty went 1-4 up John Terry looked like the biggest dickhead. The bloke has single handedly, no he is batfuck & cashley is robin in the fight to stuff the chavs chances

  820. bnsb says:

Some kind soul posted a run_in.pdf here, Bless him. I have downloaded it. Never fails to bring a smile on my face whenever i open and read it ;)

  821. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Where is Geoff I miss him as much as Rambo ;)

  822. bnsb says:

Again that run_in.pdf tells me we could have a strong chance to be top of the table on 3rd April, touch wood.

  823. chozzer says:

    I’d heard it was 70 pints, gg9. :)

  824. Back from a long meeting

    GG9,r u mentioting sachin there ;-)

  825. gnarleygeorge9 says:

    Sabeel

Are you tying to rub it in ;) Yes I mean sachin :)

  826. chozzer says:

    Geoff’s in the woods.

  827. gg9

i say Ricky is also 85% as good as sachin..only issue is would he have dealt as well as sachin in dealing with unrealistic screaming 1 billion fans..

    and by the way

Geoff shares his name with a cricketing legend “geoffrey boycott” ;-)

  828. bnsb says:

 chozzer, I remember that, “and sometimes in the pants”

  829. Maybe Geoff “IS” geoffrey boycott

  830. Geoff says:

Morning all, I was writing todays post! I think TV would be a great DM, Gallas and Campbell in the middle.

I agree that Tendulker is great but I think Bradman has to be the best, what was his average 99.9?

  831. bnsb says:

    Geoff,

You dont read all the posts do you? :)

  832. Geoff says:

I was indeed in the woods, but don’t confuse me with Boycott, he was a northern monkey, me I’m a London boy!

  833. nishanth says:

The Liverpool captain blew his top when he felt Nikola Kalinic had dived and ex-Reds star Diouf stepped in to stir things up.

Gerrard getting upset at some playing diving..hilarious!!!

  834. Geoff says:

bnsb I write 6 a week unless there are two match reports, if there’s a post you don’t like, it’s probably Pedro’s!

  835. gnarleygeorge9 says:

    Geoff

Where the bloody hell have you been? It was actually 99.94 Geoff.

  836. bnsb says:

I Like both, yours, Pedro. I meant comments :)

  837. Pedro says:

    Bnsb…

Pedro: Most Angry Responses to a post award winner

  838. 1)Bradman didnt tour all countries,
2)Bradman didnt play Non-Stop ODI and test,t20 cricket like todays age for that much fatigue
3)Bradman didnt have un-realistic 1 billion screaming fans Pressure..dont know how he would have performed to “That” scale of expectations…

BUT..BUT…BUT..BUT…Importantly,We cannot blame Bradman for that..it was not his mistake..He just did his best…

Hence,Bradman is the Best,No doubt about that..because of average 99.9..awesome one..

  839. nishanth says:

Why is it that players who are usually terrible, don’t get any oppurtunities and never score always manages to play well and score against us?

  840. bnsb says:

    pedro,

How dare you slag our accounts :)

  841. bnsb

can u explain the award u just got…what was it about?

  842. Geoff says:

Bradman was a poof, now Grace, he was the best.

  843. bnsb says:

Bradman is the best, a thorough gentleman-rarity amongst Australians :)

  844. Bradman a poof,never knew that..interesting

  845. Geoff says:

    Ha, ha, I like it!

  846. bnsb

Gentlemen australians are NOT a rarity dude,i have many australian friends..

  847. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Bradman didn’t play on batsmens paradises, Bradman played on wickets that weren’t covered overnight or when it rained, bradman didn’t play against Zimbabwe or Bangladesh or india much coz they weren’t up & about in those daze. If he did play against them he would have had an average of 199.94

  848. bnsb says:

    gg9

Bradman would have had his head turned on Indian “spinning pitches”

  849. gg9

Your points are also imp..but doesnt mean my points are void..

personally Bradman is the best..period..(except i just dont know how he would be able to handle 1 billion expectations)..

  850. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Cricket is so yesterday here in Oz, we are hoping to host a World Cup of football. The only people who give a XXXX about cricket are indians. Well our country does stop when we play the Poms but thats about it these daze.

  851. bnsb says:

Did they have leg pad, arm pad and the pads to cover bollocks in those days.

  852. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Its the well over the used by date food that would have fucked The Don bnsb

  853. gnarleygeorge9 says:

In Australia we like to eat fresh. Have you lot heard of that type of eating up there. Oh currys ;) I guess not

  854. Pedro says:
