I know how to deal with the Delap throw…

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Keep the ball, go up the other end and score more than they do, this Delap throw really gets me, I would be more worried about facing Torres, or Rooney, suddenly the footballing world is worried about an average player being able to throw the ball into the area.

I thought having a 6’4″ keeper took care of that, or maybe a few 6’3″ defenders, move on boys and stick a few in their goal area then convert them, fight fire with fire. Maybe the manager will have a look and see if we can go out and buy some big lumps in the summer, they always used to do a job for us in the old days, maybe a re-think in defence will see us keeping more clean sheets.

This Stoke hex is becoming like the old Bolton one, this lot were the strongest favourites for years to go straight back down, now they appear to be the Wimbledon of the noughtees.

Screw them, they aren’t that good, let’s give them a lesson in football, let’s show them the Delap throw is another way of saying ‘the long ball’ and stick 4 or 5 past them.

Yesterdays post got a record number of bad comments from Arsenal knows best accountants, good to see there are seemingly more people out there that prefer a clean balance sheet to a trophy, but don’t mind spending our transfer budget on salaries, to all those people that didn’t get let on yesterday, it wasn’t because you disagreed with our take on the finances, it’s because you started your post with ‘are you mugs spuds’ and stuff like that.

Well for people that claim to be able to read a balance sheet, you are all pretty stupid to think either of us would write a blog if we supported another team.

Hey and you know what, if I didn’t like something I was reading, I would stop reading it, reading then bitching is what old ladies do.

For all you normal people out there, enjoy the day, enjoy the game and enjoy the result, because I have a feeling the balance between the poor team and the good team will be addressed today. Big win coming up, chavs to draw, us to close the gap, perfect day!

For Micky!

I, for once, feel more than optimistic about today’s game. I think it could be 4 or 5 goals for the gooners today.

  2. Micky Did It 89

Geoff: agree, its an utter joke having to worry about Stoke and a long chuck-in. Less of a satuday call to arms than usual (I look forward to your saturday post Churchillian words), and also unusually, no team.
Ros and Eboue to start for me. Eddy fit?

  3. nishanth

We could thrash them depending on the team wenger puts out(By that i mean if denilson doesn’t play we will thrash tham)

  4. Meneurdejeu10

    Mornin Gooners

The players will be up for it today. Arsene wants this one even more because every victory is a flip of the finger to Alan Hansen. Rosicky has been very consistent for us.

How good is Sorensen? Anybody rate him?

  5. Micky Did It 89

Will someone please tell me why it is so hard to defend this throw in, when
    a. you know its coming, and
    b. exactly where it is going to land.

  6. reggie 57

Its about time almunia showed some bollocks when the throw comes in knuckle dust a few, let them know you are there, in other words stop being a fucking pussy!!

  7. Telarse

    How many posts today Geoffrey?
Hope there’s not too much about finance or Wenger or Stoke or Goalkeeper’s Denilson in today’s posts cos they depress me.

I’ve a 25 year mortgage – decided not to go for 10 or 15 year mortgage cos I wanted lower payments over longer period to ensure quality of life for me and the family NOW – not when I’m 60+ and kids have fucked off!

Can anyone explain to me why Arsenal can’t do this?
(didn’t intend it to be such a good analogy – the kids reference was a fluke!)

No references to finance after I get my answer!

Bring back 4-4-2 a place for everyone and everyone in his place!

  8. Rohan

Chelsea still have to face Villa, United Liverpool and Tottenham and City today. If they don’t lose atleast 6 points there, they deserved to be champions.
As for United if they don’t lose atleast 5 points between now and the end I’ll eat my proverbial hat.
All we need to do is go on an unbeaten run drawing one at most. Can we do it??
Yes we can!!! Comon you Arsenal.
Stand up for the Champions. It all starts today with Stoke.
3-0 to the good guys with Bendtner and Nasri on the scoresheet.. Can’t fucking wait.

  9. Mr B

I think our team should work od it. Ive seen a lot of videos of kids throwing the ball farther than delap.

Looks like they let girls play with guys in the US. I loved it when I used to do that when I was in school and accendentaly squeez the girls AHM.AHM when they tried to hustle me off the ball.

Stop bitching, SIG, I doubt too many people go on to the old post early in the morning. Better than regurgitating the same old thing again and again ala some on here.

  11. Mr B

Yes. Theres nothing in the rules that says it cant be done.

As long as both feet are grounded behind the line and the thrower lets go of the ball behind his/her(dont want a lawsuit) head, its ok by the book.

Ive seen it done in international matches but mostly by women who practiced gymnastics at a younger age(apparently).

  12. Mr B

U know Sabeel what I would find more disturbing, than u cheating, is if u took out an hour each day to make sure u get first post.

If I was someone else Id tell u to get a life. :)

  13. Micky Did It 89

The Delap throw lands in the penalty area, right? So could Almunia please step forward, and punch the bloomin thing.

  14. Telarse

OK, I’ll do it…I think it’s quite impressive how SIG gets first post so often when he’s doing so one-handedly1

Might be using a mouse to cut & paste rather than type but to be doing this while cracking one off is no mean feat – he must have a desktop though cos my laptop keeps slipping off my knees when I try. Course I need both hands………yeah……..I’m a crap typist!!!!

  15. ethangunner

id feel confident if our best option in goal wasnt big Al .or denilson in the middle . Al did better last outing .Sure …

maybe he still can redeem his self ..

    but somehow i doubt it

the damage is already done .
wenger would be mad to not get another keeper in the summer and WHO EVER that will be, will surely be better than al ..

  16. tonyadamsisgod

chozzer – Fucking Asahi beer! That’s stuff is lethal! yet I still drink it! Didn’t win but did manage to maintain my rep for being able to out drive anyone…….

  17. ethangunner

    TAIG

i thought i wouldnt see you do it today either .

with our impotent attack either AA must come back
and hit for or cesc … but with only Nik b etc up front .. i think stoke will always fancy there chances ..

defense is key .. good keeping even more so !

hmmmmm , that doesnt swell me with confidence :)

  18. Rohan

I want Lloris. he’d be absolutely perfect.
Him, Chamakh, another striker/midfielder possibly, and a CB would do nicely.

  19. Vinod

Has anybody noticed that the team while defending does not close down people as fast as at the start of the season…i was watching the first few games again recently and saw that the work-rate was higher… Barcelona seem to work hard when they dont have the ball…that is why they are effective as they do not run about like a bunch of headless chickens…As for Stoke and Delap i would worry…Yes i would like us to hammer them and silence the critics but unless the boys can run about constantly with a high energy performance then we may have some reason to worry…Having a tall Goalie might not be the solution…Shay Given is a top top goalie but could not deal with the Delap throw and no its not because they were intimidated…it was because Stoke crowd the box and even if you have Jaap Stam in your team he can be held off by one stoke player while another can do the damage… I am praying that Song has a blinder…if he does then we wont have to worry about keeping possesion too much…

and lets hope the next “Zidane” does not get to play in this one…

Ill stick my neck out and say 2-1 to the Arsenal!

  20. Rohan

I’m going for a 3-0. I’m tipping Nasri to have a big game. ( he looked very good last time out ) and Rosicky to do something big. Sadly I think we’ll soon see a dip in Cesc’s form soon. I fear it’s already started.
eduardo off the bench might be a good option to have today.

Ethan, I think attack is the key. We need to play to our strengths, play them off the park and take our chances.
    ——————

    Your Dead right chozz .
we should really approach every game like that ..
but with our strike options , things are hardly ideal .. we need a torres – drogba or villa to front a team like this .

Our team is like a feature movie without a star
,we need a clinical striker , the second we get one everyone will be banging them in again !

dick head wenger :) would rather see our club debt reduced by selling players (which must give him a woodie ! ) because i sure dont get one when i see our team play anymore :)

well unless its a late game and im drinking at soi 6 of course :)

  22. gnarleygeorge9

I wouldn’t mind some good old counter attacking against these upstarts. With the likes of Mozart, Cesc, Nasri, etc. we could really break these deluded fool’s hearts.

  23. ethangunner

    PREDICTIONS :)

4-2 US (i expect big al to let a few in )
    or
2-1 US tight boring affair .

    1-1 Draw Z zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Or we take another sound drumming and further misery inflicted ..

    all are very possible :)

  24. Moray

    I may not watch today.

watching them wipe that ball down last time for those fuckign throws made me borderline homicidal.

It’s a pathetic way to play football, but not as pathetic as our attempts to defend it.

problem is no one takes on the keeper anymore since TH14 left ..

no point playing on the break if you cant hit the target .. its better to focus on build up play …

YES – WC around the corner GG … expect it ..

  28. gnarleygeorge9

Yep I know posession ethan, but I reckon Stoke will expect that from Wenger. With the counter, eduardo could come into his own. he is available isn’t he.

bloody hell i hope we see a different Attacking gunners tonight Georgie ! or ill no doubt be nodding off .

MANCHESTER UNITED will be forced into a drastic summer clearout to help keep their massive £716m debts in check. And stars Michael Owen and Ben Foster are likely to be the biggest names to be on their way.

Sir Alex Ferguson will be told to axe 10 to 15 players as Manchester United look to trim their budget in light of their current financial problems Those players will in club’s young professionals in addition to more established stars who Ferguson deems surplus to requirements.

United have close to 50 professionals on their books and the club’s money men have identified the size of the club’s first-team squad as the way to cut costs.

Got a good feeling about this one ethan. A very handy 3 points coming The Arsenal’s way, Chamonnnnneeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  32. ethangunner

i think vela – theo and cesc could score on a break .. rosicky even .. but he seems to be only playing 20 minutes

whats up there ? wenger treating him like a glass statue again ?

wenger needs to play him 90 minutes a game and get him fit again , treating like a special case will only lead to one thing !

    the treatment room :)

Why is everyone so confident today?! I’m not having a go, but this is the exact type of game, with a lot riding on it, that we’ll screw up in. Stoke have proven they have the ability to cause us trouble, and I can see the red and white dropping points tonight. But I’m and arsenal fan, so predction? 6 – 0 away win!

all those big types like to hold the ball up GG .
thats why a big front man for arsenal isnt ideal .

it would be nice to go back to that flowing on the break run and stun football …

i think half the fans forget what we had :)

what we had the pleasure to see , every week !

this is one we should win on paper ,
    FULL STOP

other than a few possible wenger moments (big – al ,
    if denilson starts ).

they made us look foolish at home just recently . i think the team reacts well to this sort of Revenge pressure ..

  37. Geoff

Sorry Grovers, I needed to put this one on.

Gooneriano, 40 years plus. Secondly the tag which says have an opinion doesn’t say you can call me a cunt, think about that before you quote me.

Comment by all means, have a different opinion fine, but the minute a slagging starts, that’s enough.

  38. Joe

Good point about the big lumps, we had the tightest defence around with Adams, Keown, Bould and O’leary. Its weird how no other team in the league has ever thought of it either, oh no wait they have, but they didnt have the same success we did, maybe it’s all the sytem, no…Maybe you just have to understand that we had a great group of players playing together. The reason it doesn’t happen all the time is because those players are a rare commodity. Phillipe Senderos is a tall CB is he the answer? Before you say Wenger just doesnt like big CBs, I remember watching arsenal in mid 2000s and teams beat us by playing tight on everyone apart from our cbs and making us play out from the back. It was embarrassing, i watched us go away to west ham and they dominated us because we couldnt even start an attack. I take it you enjoy watching our football? Well recognise that we need ball playing CBs to maintain this. Having 2 big CBs is nice when you are playing Chelsea and Stoke but surely this season has proved that we dont play those teams every week. I know what you are going to say, “well we dont need to have 4 big CBs but why cant wenger at least buy 4 thomas vermaelens,” sigh. Instead of trying to see the negatives of everything it would be nice if this site recognised the positives as well.

  39. gambon

If anypne saw a slightly drunk, but otherwise amiable chap stumbling down Tottenham Court Rd 2 hours ago you were lucky enough to be in the company of gambon!

Am right in thinking we have the late KO today?!

  40. My opinion

Get Clichy to get on Eboue’s shoulder and stand next to the nearest attacker on the left/right coz we all know he can’t throw the ball all the way to the other end. Get Bendtner, Song and Sagna to help out Vermalen and Campbell and leave Cesc, Walcott and Eduardo to get ready for the counter attack.

  41. Micky Did It 89

RED ALERT: if you want a nice smoothe passage through the day after, don’t put too much “Ring of Fire” chilli sauce on your curry.

  42. Rohan

haha, apparently the City team will not shake terry’s hand. that’s be absolutely cosmic.
I’d also put money on a fight breaking out between Terry and Bridge in the tunnel at FT. :D

  43. gazzap

we have got to get Rosicky in the starting line up today. I dont get why the clubs 4th of 5th best player is so underused.

Eboue was MOTM at right back last week so he should play at right back today. you dont say, you were fantastic last week so we are going to move you to a different position. Stoke wont cope with his attacks.

  44. Micky Did It 89

Geoff: only just saw what you did, just for me, me, me, on the team sheet. Cheers. You’re by far the greatest poster the world has ever seen.
Oh bollocks, there goes any future help from Pedro on tickets!

  45. Micky Did It 89

gazzap, definately agree on both points. Rosicky gets better and better, and has the potential to be a great player. We have waited this long to get him fit enough for a couple of games, so lets see him.

  46. Rohan

I dunno, Rosicky will be absolutely vital in the latter stages of the Champs League and the League as he has the uncanny ability to pop up with crucial goals as he has already shown this season. I think Wenger is being cautious with. Stoke is exactly the sort of game he’d be in danger of getting injured.

  47. Gooneriano

    Geoff,

I agree with you, when people get persoanl then it’s different. I wouldn’t stand for that either. What i’m referring to is people who leave genuine comments. Speaking of which is there a reason why my comment is not above?

  48. tonyadamsisgod

How the fuck am I gonna play football when I feel like this!! God knows how I used to manage Sunday morning football as well!!

  49. Geoff

Micky, yes it was just for you, then I got some cunt on telling me what a prick I was for leaving Song out, he obviously didn’t read the post two days ago when I said we don’t need a DM because Stoke by-pass the midfield and he will then be fresh for the Porto game, of course I forgot Porto was the week after.

Don’t worry about Pedro, I control him!

  50. Micky Did It 89

Rohan, trouble is, Ros is as likely to get injured while training. Every game must be won, and if he is fit and in form, then for me, he should start. He should be able to play every remaining game. Strewth, he’s had years of rest!
    Up the Gunners.
    Goon to the Moon.

  51. freduardo

i wonder is there any rule about taking too long with throw ins, like a time limit.
isnt it 6 seconds for goalies holding the ball?
i was timing stoke when we played them in the cup and it really was horrific, 35-40 secs for a throw in.

  52. Geoff

I had a dog when I was a kid, loved him and he died in my arms.

Then I got an English Setter when I was a grown up, the dirty cunt took 5 shits a day and chewed my kitchen up, he went to a farm, if I’d have had my way, it would have been the vets, but I had kids!

    And that’s my dog story.

  53. Rohan

lol Geoff!!… I quite like dogs..unfortunately living in an apartment renders the possibility of owning one void especially since I’d like a really big one not the one Almunia has. :D

  54. Mayank

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head about the Stoke thing. They’re only as good as we let them be. There’s no way we can go through a game without conceding throw-ins so the best bet will be to try and score early and deal with the throw-ins like you would any indirect freekick. Sol’s experience could come in handy here.

Part of the reason we suffer against them might just be because we expect to do so. We’ve brushed aside better and tougher teams, stoke should be no exception.

  55. Pedro

    Goooood morning Grovers!

Top posting Geoff, I’m getting pretty excited about tonights game… just had the pleasure of the Sun on the train home this morning… NO MENTION OF ARSENAL.

What a joke… still, it was good to read 4 pages about Wayne Bridge and John Terrys supposed hand shake.

I’m hoping City can turn over Chelsea, but I have no hope of that… Mancini seems to be about as inspirational as Gareth Southgate!

  56. Geoff

I’m off to watch the two chav teams, I really hope they all snub Terry with the handshake, yobbo cunt he is.

Anyone who shags their mates bird is a lowlife that can never be trusted, ever.

  57. Pedro

A&N, I don’t know why people don’t stand in front of him.

Do you have to give ten yards to someone taking a throw in?

  58. tonyadamsisgod

Pedro – We copped out and played Chateau Whistler instead. Nice and easy as a mate of mine has never played gold before. Ever. I didn’t think that was even possible.

  59. Arse&Nose

Pedro, I’ve seen a team try that tactic and ti didnt work. Delap just took the throw from further away to get it over the player.

  60. tonyadamsisgod

Pedro – We were sold on the description that included the line “the occasional brown bear sauntering across the greens”.

    Didn’t see one though.

  61. Pedro

    haha! That would be worrying!

I saw this Doco the other day on iplayer about a guy who hangs out with bears… what a loon!
