ACCIDENTAL BACK PASS! / My beef with Cesc / Wenger fails to deliver again

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Pretty much the first thing Denilson did was generously play Falcao in behind Sol Campbell, however, using his experience the giant defender managed to make a world class challenge.

Seconds later, the Hulk found himself in front of goal again and somehow managed not to miss. We were looking a shambles! Where were Denilson and co?

Diaby lost the ball in the middle of the park, retrieved it well… ran up the pitch and set Nasri up for a toe poke at the keeper.

Then the first key moment arrived. Varela crossed badly after skinning Clichy… Fabianski looked like he had it covered, but let slip into the back of the net. One of the worst goals we’ve conceded this season. And to be fair, we’ve seen a few!

If there is one position you can’t afford a learning curve with… it’s goalkeeper.

Rosicky did well to cut Bends in, his ricocheted shot was unlucky not to go in!

The following corner hits Vermaelen, then Rosicky played it back across goal and who else was there to finish? Big Sol Campbell!

Rosicky was playing really well, he was creating space and running at players the way you’d have hoped.

Watching Denilson potter about the pitch was grating to say the least. He doesn’t have the hunger to be an Arsenal player. I watched Ferguson spit blood at Evans during the game yesterday, would Wenger do the same to Denilson at half time? Time would tell.

Bendtner got on the end of a Cesc cross, his header forcing a great save.

The rest of the half played out with a number of dirty challenges, cynical you could say.

Rosicky had a great shout for a penalty turned down. Stone wall in fact.

The ball headed down the other end. Campbell marshalled the ball, got a touch on it, Fabianski picked it up! The ref blew for the freekick. Arsenal switch off, Porto take the kick quickly, Falcao slots home. A fair goal, another embarrassing piece of defending. Ok, I’ll say it… THE worst piece of defending this year.

Those two goals were so poor, they’ll be in the advert for Danny Bakers footballing gaffs.

Arsenal didn’t have an outlet, Nik was getting pulled outwide and we didn’t have the pace over the top. Walcott came on with the aim of rectifying that. He didn’t.

Cesc did well to smash his 90th minute corner 20 yards past the back post.

I usually welcome Eboue as much as I do another Pfizer special offer e-mail, but I have to give it to the lad, he did fantastically well when he game on. With 92 minutes on the clock he beat his man with a superb dummy, he cut it back to Cesc but  Portos centre back got in the way, the ball fell for Diaby who didn’t have the confidence to hit it first time. Failure to shoot… the story of the last 5 years!

So, we lose the easiest tie of the last 16 in the champions league last 16. What does that tell us?

Well, firstly that Arsene Wenger likes to suffer in the name of his art. If someone tells you you’ll get problems with your car if you don’t get it looked at, but you insist it’ll be ok, then it breaks down on the QE2 bridge. Well, don’t come crying to me when your cam belt snaps and you’ve got 2000 people driving past you bibbing their horns calling you an idiot.

Here are some of the problems under the bonnet of project youth.

Denilson doesn’t have the athletic capabilities to be a top class footballer but worse than that, he doesn’t have the attitude to be a top class footballer. Watching him fluff challenge after challenge, miscue passes and saunter back to defend at his own pace made me feel a little bit ill.

If Wenger watches Fabianski in training everyday and he does things like that, why is he our back up keeper? If he is amazing in training and he does things like that in matches… that just goes to show, judging a player by what they do in training and banking on them replicating that in a champions league last 16 is suicidal and tantamount to negligence. Trouble is, could you have bet against Almunia doing any better?

Gael Clichy was absolutely woeful again, he was roasted time and time again by a second rate winger. However, like the keeping issue, who do you put in his place? We have a squad lacking in good back up. Where are our Wes Browns or Alex type reserves? Ours are either pulling their pension or sitting their GCSE’s.

How about overall team attitude?

Cesc hit the nail on the head. His voice trembling with anger when he pointed to the ‘school boy error goals’. He said maybe our team is a bit soft. When we lose goals, Cesc says we’re not good enough to pick ourselves up.

A defeatist attitude at this level? Are you kidding me? That is a diabolical thing to hear from the captain of Arsenal.

As much as I love him, HE should be lifting the team. Would Tony Adams let heads drop? Would Patrick Vieira let Denilson get away with jogging. Not in a million years. Who is leading this team? What have you got to lose when you know you can get overtaken by a ref in a game against Man United and still have a place in the team inside a month? That’s two weeks docked wages in my eyes… or a proper day working with underprivileged kids to realise how good you’ve got it.

Theo Walcott? Why bother bringing him on. His pace is his asset, he’ll run for 20 yards, have a brain freeze, then cut it back. My pals jack russel Barry has more instinct for the game… at least he’ll run with the ball at full pace until he hits a boot bag. Shame he doesn’t earn £60k a week…

Finally onto Wenger. We’ve got a great player in Ramsey sitting on the bench. A player we know can either do an amazing job, or the same type of standard job we get from Denilson week in week out. The Wenger of old would have taken the risk on Rambo… the new Wenger… well, he’s to interested proving to the world he was right with Denilson. A demise of gutting proportions.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCWjioIR5MM&hl=en_GB&fs=1&]

Wenger can moan all he likes about the freekick, but it was within the rules and we’ve seen Thierry Henry do the same before. Instead of venting your anger at the officials, why not vent some at your inept squad of highly paid flops? It was funny to listen to his post match reaction, he didn’t know where to go with it, when the commentator asked him if Cesc’s appraisal was correct, he gave that ‘I’ve just spat my cornflakes out’ look. Sometimes, it’s ok to call a cock up a cock up.

The fact is, you can’t win games when 2-3 players aren’t up to the job. It’s unfair on the rest of squad. All these problems are rectifiable, but Wenger seems incapable of making the tough decisions. We knew we needed a keeper, we knew Gael was playing poorly/unfit and we knew Denilson was a liability. We know Theo isn’t a game changer. That’s enough to lose at this level.

Still, despite my rant, it’s important to not get too wrapped up in misery, we’re not out of this by a long shot and I’m sure we’ll qualify at home. However, we want to win this trophy, not brag that we’ve made it to the quarters 22 years in a row.

With with an attitude like the one on show tonight, I struggle to see that culminating.

Ratings:

Fabianski: Two of the most ridiculous pieces of keeping I’ve seen. The first was inexcusable, the second was inconceivable. He scares the defence as much as Big Al. 1

Clichy: Roasted time and time again. His crossing was poor and you always felt nervy with him in the box. Love him as a gooner, but he hasn’t been cutting it for a while now. Needs a rest or some proper competition. 3

Campbell: I thought he had a very good game. There was no accounting for Fabianski picking up that back pass. The goal was superb and some of his defending was world class. You have to do double the job when you have a midfield as disciplined as ours in front of you. 8

Vermaelen: Some real sloppy challenges out there today. He looked annoyed and a bit aloof. Not his best game, but adequate. 6.5

Sagna: I thought he played ok. Nothing too scary from him bar his crosses. He needs more cover like Clichy, he is too often exposed alone. 6

Diaby: Attacking wise I thought he had a very good game. The second half saw the sloppy indecisive Diaby come out to play and no one in midfield can say the did a good defensive job. 5

Cesc: Not good enough for me. You’re supposed to be motivating everyone around you, you’re supposed to stick corners in the dangerzone. I love you, but I’m not going to start justifying a Barcelona move to you like so many fans keep on doing. You’ve signed to us, you get paid handsomely, you need to deliver. You wont get away with performances like that in Catalonia. 5

Denilson: Look, if you let a monkey drive your car and he crashes it, would you get angry at the monkey? Of course not. That monkey doesn’t know how to drive. Same with Denilson, why get angry at a weak footballer? Everyone knows he is poor bar Wenger and it’s not his fault he gets picked every week. The worst performance I’ve seen from him all season… and that’s saying something! 2

Bendtner: We saw the best and worst from him. He won a lot of headers, his passing was good at times. However, he was pulled out wide too often and his reticence to pull the trigger is infuriating considering he is a striker. 6.5

Rosicky: In the main he played pretty well. He claimed a great assist for the goal and forced a couple of handy saves from the keeper. Went missing in the second half. 7

Nasri: First half was pretty average, the second half was pretty anonymous. Same old, same old. He doesn’t have the personality to do great things for me. There is no edge to him. 5

P.S. Any spares to the game this weekend will be welcomed!

If diaby, song, arshavin are out. I can comfortably say there goes the tittle.

    But hey…we still have Bendtner…

Too pissed off for this shyte. Laters.

  2. zee

zeus – i aint the manager, was just pointing out why we wont get him. if you think we’ll spend 25m on someone who’s 29 later this year, fair enough. may as well spend the same on dzeko who’s what, 24

  3. goonermichael

Franchise as you are probably aware I’ve never played football but shouldn’t the ref be watching play and not have his back to it? The decision and the quick free kick are fine by me. I think we’ll spank them anyway

  4. insidealbania

Exactly DDM, the bottom line is we Fabianski ALONE gifted them two goals, and the team yesterday was not good enough to out score Porto.

    Lloris admits foreign ambition
But highly-rated shot-stopper is happy at Lyon for now
By Patrick Haond Last updated: 2nd December 2009

Hugo Lloris would consider a move abroad in the future, but is currently happy in France.

The 22-year-old is carving a reputation as one of the best custodians in Europe and was in especially fine form in his club’s UEFA Champions League games with Liverpool.

France’s No.1 also frustrated Republic of Ireland on several occasions in their World Cup play-off to add fuel to reports that Arsenal are among a number of sides watching with interest.

Lloris confesses that he would be interested in a move away from Ligue 1 at some point in his career and he wants to win trophies, but he is content at Lyon.

He said in L’Equipe: “Playing abroad later? Why not? But you cannot control that.

“At Lyon, everything is here for me to improve. I just miss the titles.”

    @ Zee

I like dzeko, but he is another link type though he can certainly lead the line better than our cumbersome Dane.
I fear if he comes he would just be another in the long line of gun shy players that are tidy in possession.

We need more penetration and a world class finisher, we have enough link players.

Manuel Almunia and Alex Song could return to the Arsenal squad for Saturday’s game against Sunderland.

According to Arsène Wenger, the keeper (finger) is “50:50″ and the midfielder (knee) “80:20″ to feature at Emirates Stadium this weekend. But Abou Diaby will be missing because of a medial knee ligament injury.

William Gallas (calf), Andrey Arshavin (hamstring) and Eduardo (hamstring) are still out. The first two of that trio are also likely to miss the trip to Stoke a week on Saturday.

“We lost Abou Diaby last night [at Porto],” Wenger told Arsenal TV Online on Thursday afternoon. “It is not understandable. I don’t know how it worked. But he has a medial knee ligament injury.

“We discovered it today. He came in today and he had pain in his knee.

“However Song could be available, we have a test tomorrow on him. I don’t know about Almunia, we’ll have a test tomorrow on him too. I’d say Song is 80 per cent to be back in the squad. Almunia 50:50. But Diaby is zero.

“Arshavin, Gallas and Eduardo will still be out.”

i give up with arsenal!! what the hell is going on!! somehting is wrong!! training or medical staff!! this is a joke!!

  9. Moray

Why would Lloris come to us if he is looking for titles and trophies?

He won’t come to us either for money, as we don’t pay well at the tope end.

Oh well, he IS French. That’s something to hold on to

GM good point about the backing ref. he was doing his best to give porto the advantage with the quick free kick. i bet he trurned around and thought fuck who is this fatty

  12. incesc

any computer guys on here? I need to switch my sony viao laptop on but the on switch has stopped working (Its hanging of…) Is there any thing else you can press on a laptop to start it up?

  13. gazzap

Tariq, yes in wenger world Denilson MUST play but in reality most normal brained people would use Cesc, Ramsey and Song in midfield.

sol to continue at the back. I would get Vela in on LEFT wing, NOT striker. Rosicky on right, Nasri on bench, Denilson in the Thames.

  14. leon

sorry i just feel this team is to light weight there is not enough power in this team both in midfield and upfront,i feel fab is good up comming keeper yes he made some huge mistakes but i would still keep him but he is not number 1 keeper yet,i think for few defenders like sole would a huge help he old fanshioned defender who does forward as much

  15. dennisdamenace

Seriously, what is fucking wrong with our players? All these muscle strains and pulls, wtf is going on at our club?

To me, it’s obvious that it’s yet another area that the Arsenal management is fucking up, the training and welfare of the players….

  16. gazzap

Oh and I know Fabi was terrible but I would give him the game against sunderland anyway, even if Almunia makes it. He isn’t that bad, and he needs a good game to just show that he isn’t that bad before he is benched again. clearly we pray he doesn’t drop a clanger or his Arsenal career could be over.

  17. Sabeel Indian Gunner

no denilson, the screwing legend will play…

unfortunate thing is dont know how long diaby will be out

eduardo “small small small” problem is really very small small small

I have even lost faith in wengers injury comeback dates..

  18. Geo

WE simply need to stop playing inept players.

Arsenal suffers when we play a tall lumbering striker up front, with little or no flair, and who couldn’t hit water if he fell off a boat!

We saw it with Adebayor, we are seeing it with Bendtner. Arsenal needs an Henry/van Persie player to pay up front.

Kanu was a bit part player, and that’s all Bendtner should be and all Adebayor should have been! They are an option to bring on if we are in trouble, or need to change things slightly. They are not what we want to start a match with.

I would have rather seen Vela start, he has just signed a new contract and he will be up for showing what he can do. He has flair, composure in front of goal (something Bendtner lacks) and has great pace and spacial awareness.

We just cannot continue to play with a lumbering striker up front, not if we want to play the way Wenger wants us to. It limits our play, our full backs cannot cross to save their lives and Bendtner often ends up going out wide anyway, where Vela would have been better.

And on Fabianski, well, him AND Almunia are not good enough for Arsenal. That’s been made clear time and time again, by gaff after gaff. Almunia won’t EVER come for the ball, is weak physically and mentally and has no command of his area or defence whatsoever. Fabianski on the other hand charges out for the ball, often misses it, and/or ends up making costly mistakes. The FOUR he let in at Anfield last season and now these 2 last night should be enough we need to see, and he should remain THIRD choice.

I would like to see Mannone given a real chance when we inevitably go out of the CL and get too far behind in the Prem.

Next season we must buy another striker and goalkeeper with Mannone and Szczesny 2nd/3rd choice.

  19. SFOGooner

    pedro,

I think campbell takes a majority of the blame for the second goal. First he plays a needless back pass and then suffers a brain freeze. Ends up not standing there blocking the ball..

You also have to ask where were the other defenders ?

  20. Barnaby

Last season the fans showed their disgust with the performance of a player – Eboue. The unthinkable happened – his pathetic performance was highlighted by the fans who continued to boo his every action. A distraught Eboue was removed from the field of play by his manager – the whole episode an embarassment to both of them.
After a period away from first team appearances Eboue returned and has improved as a player. Last night his cameo role was well received and he played with effort & determination – proud to wear the shirt. Perhaps the lesson the FANS dealt last year needs to be repeated? Unfortunately I think Denilson is beyond ever becoming a good player – why should he – he is paid an extraordinary amount of money to play no better than my 78 year old mother.

  21. Ray in SF

I think there is plenty of blame to hand out for the second goal

even TV was walking back and vaguely pointing

no one showed any urgency…at least on our team

  22. nishanth

Diaby injured again.Under normal circumstances ramsey should get a chance. But this is arsenal we are talking about!!!!!

  23. SFOGooner

Wenger has cesc in damage control mode .. Cesc now saying Fabianski will come good and he needs support ..

I am sure Fab will play the next game(s), just for wenger to prove his point that he is a good keeper!

  24. B.B.K.

F.F.S If these players were animals they would of been put down by now,i think they should apply this at the end of the season.

  25. B.B.K.

It’s fucking bollocks all the fucking time, now a.a,gallas, eddy not back, so fucking annoying…get these cunt’s out i have had enough of them, always being injured..

  26. max

the analysim of Walcott is way off..he can operate if you get the ball to him early. So he can run at/past players..but Arsenal dont..they pass right to left, left to right and allow the opposition to get at least 9 players goalside of the ball..as predictable as shit. Then the back four push up and as soon as we lose the ball we are up against the counterbreak. But whats the point of bring Walcott on anyway, if your going to take the CF off?

  27. Truth

It needn’t be a massive clear out, we just need to be shot of:
    Almunia
    Fabianski
    Denilson
    Silvestre
    Clichy
    Bendtner
    Eduardo
    Walcott Loan-out

Well maybe it is a massive clear out!

Add a Top class keeper, a Defensive midfielder and a Striker. Promote Gibbs to LB, and bring in a right sided winger, job done.

  28. B.B.K.

well fab will be off to barca with a.a so that’s them out of question,r.v.p is a player id give the chop to likewise diaby, gibbs i don’t rate vermaelen aswell, the g.k’s are shit all 4 of them, clichy and sagna have become shite.Yeah so id promote the youth team and add experience

  29. reggie 57

What so you reckon we need a complete rebuild?start from scratch promote the yutes then, and oh by the way i agree about cesc going at the end of this season!!

  30. Samir

How I’d love us to sign Bruno Alves!
    What a bloody great player!

    ……….Lloris………..
    Sagna–Alves–Vermy–Gibbs
    ….Fabregas–Song–Diaby..
    ..Chamakh–RVP–Arshavin

Thats what I call a team!
I agree Fabregas will most likely be off, but if we buy quality early we might be able to presuade him!

Knowing Wenger though he will talk his usual shit of buying class, fans renew their season tickets, we sell 2 of our best players and buy 1 sh!t one!

  31. israeli gunner

I hope that you understand now why i was moaning in the last 5 years!!!!
    Wanger (and the board)must go!!!!
Arsen scarifying arsenal football club on behalf off his sick ego, shame on you, please do us a favor and go,,,,,now!!!!

  32. leon

i have to i cant realy disagree that a clearout is needed almunia clichy, delinson silvest and senderos are out of contract, delinson.this so misses some presence and organisation i would realy keep some he may be 35 but he very needed experience and organisation,i see vela and thoe as wingers, but i realy think a powerful winger and another striker.there is no dought that wenger given time but some of the players wont,i feel players like ramsey merida, thomas will overtake him but wenger needs to find some experienced beasts into that position and evon though bretna is there they need some real power and pace in striker position henry type player

  33. reggie 57

Yeah agree there it is the same old bollocks year in and year out, sweeping changes need to be made starting right at the top with the doddering bumbling board? time to move with the times!!

  34. incesc

fabianski to barce in the summer for 60 million??

maybe we could obscure the paperwork a bit so they think it says fabregas.

  35. B.B.K.

right zorro basically we go and kidnap them lock them away somewhere then me and whoever else is up for it go and take over ultra style, who’s on it,reggie???

This is a superb piece of writing http://arsenaltruth.squarespace.com/arsenal-truth/2010/2/18/i-burst-out-laughing-when-porto-scored.html

    My favourite bit is;

“The man behind the microphone asked Wenger whether Arsenal fans were becoming impatient with the club’s lack of success, and when the Frenchman tried to dodge the bullet he simply asked the question again – at which point Wenger’s face went into spasmodic twitching mode.

In that moment, I read so much from that nervous, Mr Bean-like face – a mixture of stubborn denial, an acceptance that underneath it all he’s fighting a losing battle with himself, and finally anger that anyone dare ask him such a challenging question twice.”

Well, it depends…. If we had Lloris, thenNeuer would be the best and vice versa…

  38. Samir

I wouldn’t be as angry as I am now if I knew things were going to change in the summer.
I do however know that nothing will change. This time next season we will be out of everything again…

  39. gambon

    You certainly did ManG

The problem is its not like theres anyone we can put in that will reassure us.

Its like having to decide if you’re gonna pole Ann Widdecombe, Maggie Thatcher or Dame Edna.

  40. ManGoonian

    Samir;

You are young and being frustrated is something you have to work thru on your own!!!

I am sure things will change come summer…. The weather should be better for one thing…

  41. gambon

    Samir

Exactly. the Wenger of old took no prisoners, now he hands out long term contracts.

We used to know the dead wood would be shipped out.

  42. ManGoonian

    gambon;

I would stick with Fabianski mate, I know that sounds crackers, but its for the best, trust me…. He cannot possibly fuck up like that ever again…

I asked this last night to my mates and no one has answered it…

Has a ref ever allowed a quick free kick like that, IN the box? I aint ever seen one. I seen quick one’s outside the area, but never in it…

Where’s A when you need him???

  43. big dave

We are a bloody joke with injury’s Diaby out again he plays 2 games then out, this is why results are all over the place, we never get a settled team

    sack the physio

  44. gambon

    ManG

That situation probably hasnt happened before, but then again most teams dont think quick enough to do it.

I would drop Fabianski for the simple reason the players need to know they cant get away with that kind of performance.

I would toss a coin between Al & Frankenstein then kick them all out in the summer, and have a Lloris & Szcezny partnership.

  45. ManGoonian

Its weird, coz I read a blog where the author reckons it wasnt a deliberate back pass, others where it was and for me, it couldve gone either way…

And I stillmaintain that the ref shouldnt have let Porto take that free kick soooooo dam quick… Its like letting a player take a quick penalty beofre any knows its happened…

  46. Maurya

Henry and co are used to mug teams like Chelsea. Now, every sundry team on the planet mugs us and even referee don’t care us any more.

  47. ManGoonian

To be honest, I am more concerned about the form of Clichy…. The way any bog standard player gets past him like he aint there, we might as well not have him on the pitch…

Now that for me is a huge worry…

  48. ManGoonian

I thought most of our players were poor last night too. Soooo many shite mis placed passes, by cesc, Diaby, etc… Rosicky and Sol played well, but apart from that…?

  49. Zorr0

While we are on a Tarantino tip; I am just introducing my boy to the delights of Pulp Fiction!

Social work MG? Don’t fuck up mate! Not like chucking the ball into your own net, far worse situation if you go wrong in SW!

  50. chozzer

I’m going to the next six games. Perhaps it was a bad time to start going to away games too!

    Sunderland H
    Stoke City A
    Burnley H
    FC Porto H
    Hull City A
    West Ham United H

I agree about the quick indirect free kick in the box, ManG….I’ve never seen one. Fabianski obviously thought the ball was dead once the ref asked for it.

  51. ManGoonian

    chozzer;

I think we will win all those games regardless who is fit, or in goal…

    Zorro;

Thats probably why I dont carry on with the gnashin of teeth and refrain from the Joe Pesci in Goodfellas impressions a day after the games…. There are a few more serious things that could happen to me!!!

  52. gambon

Surely Diabys injury has to be the final straw, we need to bring some experts in to work out why this is happening.

Diaby was starting to show promise and now he could be back to square 1.

Its gotten to the point where its affecting our results but also hampering players improvement on an individual level.

  53. ManGoonian

After we beat Porto 3-0, all this will have been forgotten….

Look into my eyes… You are getting sleepy…. You will wipe this from my memories…. Fabianski is a brilliant young misunderstood keeper…. repeat after me…. Fabianski is a….

  54. ManGoonian

    Gambon;

I agree ( put a note in your diary!!!) the injuries have gone way past bad luck and coincidence…. It has become the mainstay of our seasons, every year too many injuries for the squad to cope, not to mention the damage it does it player development…

    Something is rotten in Denmark…

  55. reggie 57

I can see us getting thru to the next round but when we come up against the better quality teams we seem to get hammered rather easily!!

  56. JAY20H

Dunno if anyone is watching the pool game, but I wonder if/when liverpool are not winning in last moments if we see a Gerrard dive?

    I would go for a a yes!!!

  57. goonerpress

Zorr0 Jamie can’t come because hes on-loan from the Cunts next door. Gooby Jamie was an Arsenal youth player.

I wouldn’t mind James as a temp. He would do a much better job than the two clowns we have. I also wouldn’t mind Boateng, he is much better than Denilson. I know he didn’t do well for the Cunts but can you blame him?

same lame excuse at the end of the season… i have faith, judge me at the end of next season, the team is maturing…

how long does the team need 2 mature… denilson never seems 2 mature… fabianski instead of making one mistake per game now is making more…. is that maturing or regressing…

Nasri has lost faith big time, clichy is doing so bad i remember wenger playing eboue at left back vs portsmouth last season before the champs league home leg vs manure(semifinal) than why not give eboue a chance…

he can play LB can play RB and also midfield… all in all he doesnt need 2 make so many changes.. at i think right now sagna is quite bad 2 whenever passed to he looks panicky and has left a few passes go astray…

i think bring eboue back… he can do wonders.. he has the pace and ability but he just cant shoot or finish..

Up Front, Where do we start,
Since VPs Injury we have been about as penetrating as a castrated altar boy how Wenger has let it get to the point that when Bednter the prolific gets subbed our hopes of scoring go with him ill never know its fucking embarrassing in the extreme

I’m not sure why we are so surprised: though am gobsmacked that Wenger is surprised!

Porto is OUR level: that is where we are in European terms – not Barcelona or Madrid or Inter and certainly not the Chavs or ManYoo – this is how good our team really is. I don’t know why we are surprised. Third place in the league has more to do with Benitez as with our supposed improvement.

Goalkeeper is a joke since mad Jens left (and Jens knew that)
Gallas and Vermaelen are good players – but probably fed-up. Campbell is a welcome addition and I like how he made the “Hulk” look more like Bruce Banner.

Clichy – something is wrong there – he must now be the 20th best left-back in the Premier League – something is wrong with the boy

You have said it all about Denilson – I think he must be Pat Rice’s son: He does so little – though Wenger will likely quote some stats about accuracy of passing or something – shame he doesn’t look in the only stats column that counts and that is matches won! Denilson might be a good player in Portugal or even a low level Spanish side – but not on last night’s performance.

Diaby is a waste: he is either really good or really poor – but mostly injured. Only Song is doing well this year. Poor Cesc is going the sam-way as Henry. It was a mistake making him captain – he isn’t one! It will only weigh on him and he will be relieved to get away to Barca soon. Personally I will be pleased for him – a chance to win something “cheers Cesc”

I’ve been telling people for seems like years Bendtner is a Championship player. We could have signed half a dozen better centre-forwards just from the Premier League – even Nugent is better (though Zamora is just too ugly to contemplate). Can’t wait till next season when RVP gets injured again and Wenger moans about bad-luck with injuries.

Just imagine if Moaniho took charge – the players that would be out the door: Clichy, Diaby, Denilson, Bendtner, probably Gallas like a shot, all of the goalkeepers. At least he would bring-in some winners with teeth and balls like (the horrible) Drog and Essien or some other monster for midfield – and a goalkeeper.

I think they should have a tournament for the last Champions League place – It would give us something to look forward to in May!!!!

I wonder what Pat Rice’s new job would be

same old problems with this team …

we go to water at the business end of the season .
Morale is low because wenger aspires to try and win unachievable targets ..

And after years for fans it gets depressing , for a footballers career’s id say it would feel a shit load worse …

Project youth has one major failing, the readiness of these recruits to step up ..
it cannot be timed .. its all guess work ..

and unlike the invincibles who all were great at the same time (similar to the NOW chev’s and manc’s ) this team is riddled with players who arent up to scratch ,thats all wengers failings .

not the players .. denilson dont put his hand up every week to play , well maybe he does , but if the boss is still stupid enough to follow thru .. well its not really denilsons fault .. or fabianski’s really …

i would ask who thinks this guy was good enough to buy this early on ??
Fabianski ?also who said he was ready as 1st reserve ?

its frightening how under prepared wenger into this season …

id have vito over all of them currently ..
it seems the best goal keeper we owned we loaded out for a season also !

    smart move ..
