The hand of CESC: When cheating is cool + the return of the ratings!

by & filed under Uncategorized.

I didn’t want to have to write another depressing match report. I didn’t want to write about the same old problems again. I didn’t want to watch the same game plan repeated unsuccessfully.

We’d gone from competing for the league to competing for 3rd place. If tonight went sour, we could have found ourselves fighting it out for 4th. That wasn’t a scenario I wanted to consider.

Almunia
Eboue Gallas Vermaelen Clichy
Diaby Song Cesc
Nasri Bendtner Arshavin

Well, I liked the team. Eboue got his first start since returning from the ACN, the midfield looked good and finally we could boast a striker. I expected a big game from Arshavin. He is to Liverpool what Drogba is to us.  I was expecting Nasri to show some steel and prove he wants a future at the club.

We wanted fight tonight… blood, guts and thunder! I wanted to see proof these players cared.

Well, it didn’t start well, the first Liverpool freekick bounced on the 6 yard line.

Liverpool set out to stifle like they always do. They are incredibly effective at that and so it proved during the first half.

Gallas went close with early header. He should have done better.

Nik B broke the offside trap and blazed over. A Good run regardless.

Reina weakly punched a corner away. Nasri snapped at the shot which was blocked.

The rest of the half played out in tepid fashion. It was good to see a striker gracing the pitch and despite him not playing amazingly, he was nodding on balls and putting himself about.

Cesc needed to pick up his game if we were going to win this.

Ngog broke through on goal, Gallas slid in and tackled, the ball travelled straight up the other end, Rosicky was slipped in by Arshavin and was so scared to shoot he pretty much ran it into Reinas hands!

Then came the penalty shout. Bendtner burst into the box, Agger clipped him, Howard booked Bendtner for diving. It was a penalty by the letter of the law, even though I’m not a fan of that type of gamesmanship.

Then came the moment we were waiting for. Fab played to Bends whose first cross failed, the ball came back out, he fed Rosicky who crossed to Diaby who buried the header! Get in! No more than we deserved.

Almuina spilled a freekick he should have caught. If newsnow allowed naughty words, I’d tell you what the whole country shouted in the direction of the Spaniard at that moment. Don’t worry, I noted who gave the freekick away.

Al made amends with a super save from a Babel shot.

Arsenal were holding on for dear life. We were giving away space in a most casual fashion…

Theo managed to pick the ball up in Liverpools half, instead of holding onto it, he played it back to Reina! What a muppet, that put us on the back foot almost immediately! Gerrard and Kuyt both dived one after the other, Howard Webb gave a freekick. After much kerfuffle, Gerrard smashed it at the wall, Cesc decided to clear it with his HAND! Superb, couldn’t have  asked for a better finish!

Oh but wait, it could… Spurs lost, ManU drew and Chelsea lost! Was I dreaming? No! We’re back!

Do I think we’ll win the league? No. Will I enjoy the rest of this mad as Gazza season? Yes! We’re back from the ashes of defeat… AGAIN! Crazy… I’m elated… so elated in fact, I don’t care that I have to go to a gift wrapping factory in Bradford today… honestly, I’m pleased as can be!

Fantastic result, heart, guts, blood thunder, sloppy last gasp defending, dangerous play… who cares about the bad stuff, we won! That’s all that matters. Like Ballack said in the week, football is a results business, if you get them, the crappy stuff is ignored.

Great substitute by Wenger late in the game. Eboue was proving to be a liability and Wenger brought on Sagna who provided solid cover. The timing of the sub was strange…

The team ground out a win, having Bendtner back helped. We had a target man. He’ll grow with the season. Diaby was very good today, he made up for an off Cesc game. Arshavin also looked much more effective. I’ve heard he may have a thigh injury, lets hope that’s not the case.

Gallas was immense. He was a warrior tonight and easily my man of the match. The best way to ensure we keep a clean sheet is to make sure Almunia doesn’t have to deal with anything too tricky. Willy G recognised that and  made sure he was largely untroubled.

A word for Gerrard. You disgust me.

A word for Kuyt. You disgust me in a footballing sense and a visual sense.

I hope Liverpool finish 5th and lose out to Everton.

Speaking of the league. Chelsea and United both have a horrible fixture list compared to ours. We really are back in it. Are any of the top 3 capable of winning all their games? Not this year. This really could be one of the most exciting finishes in the history of the Premiership.

It’s not quite there for the taking, but 6 points is hardly insurmountable…

Ratings

Almunia: Still looks like he’s just been given the bad news after his X-factor audition. He looked shaky tonight but he did pull off a superb save late on after Babel escaped his marker and flew a shot at the goal. 6.5

Eboue: I have more love for Peter Sutcliffe than I do this man. He played well in patches but his constant feigning of injury and crazy decisions were driving me up the wall. 6.5

Gallas: His best appearance in the red and white. He was commanding, took responsibilty and dealt with everything thrown at him today. 10

Vermaelen: Wasn’t equal to his partner, but helped hold the defence together. 8

Clichy: Still gaffing like George Bush without an autocue. His positional sense was off tonight and his passing was patchy at best. He pulled it together late in the game though. 6.5

Diaby: He’s cut out the rubbish passing and he’s turning into quite a player. He held the midfield together in the absence of the normally immacculate Cesc. His header showed great persistence and hard work to get up the pitch. 8

Song: I felt he was back to his bumbling best today. He was giving away fouls all over the place and his passing was less than desirable. He fails to shut down people with urgency sometimes and that really does worry me. Give Song the tenacity of Flamini and you’ve got something very special on your hands. 7

Cesc: An off day for the main man. His passing was poor and he didn’t really orchestrate the game like he usually does. Great handball at the end… a fitting way to end the game! 6.5

Nasri: He wasn’t playing very well before he was subbed, lets hope his injury isn’t a serious one. 6

Bendtner: You couldn’t say his performance was vintage. His touch was off and he didn’t really impose himself like I know he can. Still, he offered something different and he can win a header! 6.5

Arshavin: I thought he was having a good game. He needs to cut out those selfish tendencies when he has better options available, but overall, good to see him out wide again. 6.5

Subs:

Theo: His pace caused problems like it always does and he worked hard. I’m still aghast at his pass back to Reina in the ninty second minute. That was embarrassing regardless of his age. He needs to be pulled to one side over that incident. 6

Rocky: I prefer him to start ahead of Nasri. I think he offers a lot more to the team. So it proved with his deft cross to Diaby for the goal. 7

Sagna: Strange to bring a right back on for the tallest player on the pitch when you’re defending a dangerous freekick… but hell, I’ve seen Nikki B turn the ball into his own net or gift the oppo a goal many times before in similar situations. Sagna strengthened the right side of defence and helped us see out the game.

So Grovers… then there were three…

See you in the comments! Actually, that’s a lie, you’ll see Geoff. I’m in wrapping paper land!

Franchise – and you’ve never done the same ? Heh.

Please tell me you searched through old posts using google or something have haven’t spent all that time looking back through old blogs ?!

  2. Rohan

*take anyone for him that is. :D
I wish we were in the FA Cup… Where’s Sabeel, any idea? Has his keyboard finally succumbed to the incessant pressure?

  3. Ja_Gunner

I just re-watched the highlights of our goal against Liverpool…..

WIt was Diaby that started the attack by passing to Cesc….then Cesc- Bendy- Rosicky back to Diaby…

It was beautiful, only the 5 attacking playings were in the frame….Cesc Diaby, Bendy, Rosicky and Arsh…..Song was no where to be seen which is excellent…..we should do it more often…break at pace and allow our attacking players to do the job…instead of attacking all out and getting burned on the counter…..

Our 5 attacking players totally outfoxed Liverpools 7 defensive players…8 including Reina….

Yes sometimes we need to go all out..but not all the time…

  4. Franchise

Really for anyone to say Denilson over Barry, Denilson over Barry, Keita over Barry is shocking

Then also how does he guage intelligence, cos he is fond of saying players are not intelligent enough to play for us Jeez

  5. Man

    Tony
Please name me those players better than him based on their performances this season…Its true I saw the potential in Song before many but I wouldn’t have made the statement about Song last season or the season before…his standing is both based on his performances and the performances of alternative players

  6. tonyadamsisgod

Keyser – There is no point in me listing players I’d prefer because I know you wont agree. Why does it have to be a player from the EPL. Is there anew rule that says we can only source DM’s from the EPL?

The point is I have seen some very good players take up that role and I can’t be happy with someone who is no where near the standards set by those previous players.

  7. Rohan

Fine he doesnt rate Keita or Barry, big whoop. it’s his opinion, you cant take that away from him. I thought that’s the mantra of the blog. Argue it with him using valid points instead of just dragging up old posts.. I also think you’ve run him off… :D

  8. tonyadamsisgod

Man – Are you saying you haven’t seen the many mistakes he has made? He was lucky to stay on the pitch against Chelsea! he was committing a foul every 37 seconds!!

Again, I am not saying he is shit. I am saying I want better. We have had better. We can have better again.

  9. SUGA3

    let me chip in here:

I rated Song since the last ACN where he bossed the middle of the park – I know that it was not the same level, but I could see the potential and I just waited for it to explode…

    Denilson on the other hand…

  10. Keyser

tonyadamsisgod – It’s just easier, because the Premiership differs from other leagues, different players adapt in different ways.

I’ll agree if you back it up with a good argument, the only thing I see which Song lacks right and gets him caught out is pace, but as the team improve defensively so should he be able to adapt his positioning and awareness to accomodate his lack of speed, which he has to the most part.

  11. Keyser

“He was lucky to stay on the pitch against Chelsea! he was committing a foul every 37 seconds!!”

    - But then so were Chelsea, which is what people describe as experience and gamesmanship and what supposedly seperates us from them.

I don’t think he was lucky at all, Dean let almost everything go for both sides.

  12. Man

Tony – I’m not sure of the stats, but I’m sure you can check it up, players in that position are likely to make more fouls others. What if he didn’t make those fouls but instead allowed the situation develop into something dangerous. I agree with you he’s no Essien or Vieira but he’s doing a damne good job…mind you players like Essien, Vieira, Keane etc come once in a while.

  13. Keyser

Franchise – I dunno if it’s one of your wind-ups, but why twist what he’s saying, go back and quote me, I’d have said something similar.

Villa played Sidwell – Petrov – Barry in that order advancing up the pitch.

Just like Liverpool played Mascherano – Alonso – Gerrard in that order.

People were saying lets buy Alonso or Barry and stick him in next to Fabregas in a 4-4-2, which is not really the style they’ve excelled through.

    Why twist it ?!

  14. Big Raddy

Franchise. Is it really 2 years since I wrote that??

I really have no life !!

As to the Theo incident. He had two players around him and clearly expected the ball to rebound off one of them for the corner, it didn’t and he looked an idiot.

  15. chris

I think the jury’s still out on Song especially as to how good he’ll eventually be but the thing I really like about him is he’s willing to take responsibility – those games when it’s looking like the team will never score he will take people on on the edge of the box, similarly when he’s got the choice he will often pick the forward pass even when it’s more risky.

Just to say cos he gets a lot of stick for it, I also like his preparedness to foul in the midddle of the park if this hasn’t already been discuissed to death, I did’t read the chat that far back.

I personally think he’ll end up as a CB still, where he can hopefully rely on his positioning and be deceptively quick arther than obviously slow when trying to get back – but at least he is trying.

  16. insidealbania

I used to think Song was not worthy of the Shirt last season, but this season I have to say that I am enjoying his development. Again I am not saying he is PV04, all I am saying is that I enjoy watching him improve and become a better player. I thought I would also enjoy the development of Theo but he has thus far failed to impress.

  17. tonyadamsisgod

Keyser – Its not only his pace but his concentration/intelligence/awareness. That has improved undoubtedly but he still getting caught out. But because he has improved so much people are starting to think he is some sort of god.

I want the worlds best players at Arsenal. I’m not stupid enough to think we’ll get them. But I do expect a team that has made its success on the shoulders of players such as Vieira, Gilberto & Petit to look for better options than Song.

Song is doing a job. I wont deny that. I just think we could have someone better in there.

  18. Keyser

Big Raddy – I dunno, I thought someone might of called for it, can’t remember who was near him, but then he might’ve thought Vermaelen had continued his run and played the pass blind into the space he thought he would be.

He’s had 7 starts all season, people need to get off his back, whenever he’s on and the games stretched he always looks a threat.

  19. ritesh

If another player had played like Cesc yesterday, he would have been slaughtered.

I wonder how many balls he lost. Did he even have a pass rate above 50%. Very overrated kid.

  20. tonyadamsisgod

inside I thought bringing in PV4 would have been the perfect way to push Song on and to see if he really had what it takes. He could have learnt a whole lot more from him. Shame.

  21. tonyadamsisgod

Keyser – “He’s had 7 starts all season, people need to get off his back, whenever he’s on and the games stretched he always looks a threat.”

I don’t like it when you make sense!!!! :D

  22. Franchise

Keyser im like a media hack innit

I bet you are aware of what Im getting at. A lot that have been on here for a while have?

    ;)

    Stop the Bullying Campaign :D

  23. Man

…another thing I think Song is probably more creative than the average DM, his forward passes are better than most…but yeah he could work on his pace (if that were possible)

  24. Franchise

How can you say that Barry can not read the game like Denilson beggars belief especially in that year 08/09 that he had a blinder and made it back into England’s first 11

  25. ritesh

Yep Tony. He does much better generally.

Diaby is a monster. I love this guy, forget about Viera, he is going to better him next year. He can be one of the best in the world.

  26. A

lol you mean players you think are good players Franchise.

I don’t rate Keita, and I don’t particularly rate Barry either, many players way better than both of them, and at our club.

Well said Keyser regarding the Alonso/Mascherano, Barry type stuff, that’s exactly what I was saying, but obviously analysing things a bit deeper, anything further than one player is better or worse than another, or different types of players suiting different roles, is far too advanced for some, and goes straight over their heads!

“Players are either shit, or awesome. If players are shit, then they’re worse than every awesome player in EVERY way, they don’t have a single attribute that could possibly be better than that of an awesome player.”

  27. tonyadamsisgod

Keyser/Man – You’ll like this. So I was watching the game last night and noticed that I have the same boots as Cesc (or he has the same as me, you decide)! So there I was comparing myslef to the Godly Cesc Fabregas when who runs past wearing the same boots…….Alex fucking Song. Not happy.

  28. A

Franchise in 08/09 he did well for England, but didn’t play DM for Villa, as Keyser said. There were TWO DMs playing behind him!

Barry is a reliable, decent centre mid, not exceptional at anything. The only thing that he has about him that’s exceptional is that he’s left footed, that apart he’s just pretty good at everything, and reliable.

  29. Keyser

tonyadamsisgod – Honestly, no-one listens, but I think these players are good enough, the thing I think we lack most is continuity and consistentcy, they mentioned that we’ve only been able to play an unchanged line-up once in 101 times, I hope the stats right.

Diaby sat with Song yesterday and interchanged with Fabregas when he wanted to advance, he done that against Chelsea in the second half to effect aswell.

How many times have we played them together this year ?! Thats what I thinks missing from the team, they are all young and talented and learning together, they need to be able to play more than one game together before they are asked to change.

The thing is I think no matter who we bring in, it won’t mean a single player will change it, it might improve/ it might get worse, we need everyone to work as one.

  30. Franchise

Analysing stuff deeper is where your problem lies.

like how you said Crsi Ronaldo would not fit into our system

    Delusions of Grandeur

  31. insidealbania

TAIG – that would have been a perfect scenario.

I also think a lot of people come and defend Song because he gets unfairly singled out this season. You have people that sit and only focus on mistakes made by Song when they completely ignore crimes committed by other players. So that produces such a reaction. Just my opinion. Also there are those out there (like my brother) who will not here on bad word against any Arsenal player. Criticism of anything Arsenal is Blasphemy, and he is not an AKB.

  32. A

Cristiano Ronaldo wouldn’t have fitted into our system, but the system would’ve been changed to accommodate him, as would the general way in which we play.

How can analysing stuff deeper be a problem?!

  33. ritesh

Every team needs a player like Song. He is useful with his physical presence.

Remove him for a few games and you will see what you are missing.

  34. A

When did I say Denilson is exceptional?!

And again, but talking about individual attributes, that isn’t the same of talking about the whole player, seriously can you not understand that?!

If I said Senderos was better in the air than Messi you’d come out with “You’re saying Senderos is better than Messi, what a load of fucking bollocks, you can’t be serious, that’s ridiculous” etc etc

  35. Franchise

System would have changed to accomodate him

    DOH!!!

Do teams play to their strengths or what. What the hell is our system anyway?

if you think a world class player would struggle to play for us based on your ‘great knowledge’of football then I dont know what else to say to you

I bet Kaka wont fit into our great system too

  36. A

Denilson though does have close to exceptional reading of the game imo, but that’s set alongside a number of attributes which are sub par. Denilson’s reading of the game in terms of analysing opposition patterns of play and attacks is superb, and the only reason he’s at a big club, but his physical frailties limit him massively in terms of his effectiveness, and weaknesses

  37. skandibird

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha AND ha ha ha ha ha; just heard on SSN that poor Cashley is out for 3 months with a fractured ankle, am I sad? NO! Ah well, that means, possibly, Bridge could play alongside Terry in the World Cup. That’s a shame then…..Chelsea slowly crumbling

  38. Franchise

keyser what do you ever get? You are the master of whining people up

A is full of shit and for once I just thought i let him know :D

  39. Mayank

So here we are, most on here agreed when I and a few other’s said if we were within 7 points of the leaders after the Pool match we’d have a shot. Yet, I didn’t really think there’d be two teams ahead of us on nearly the same points.

We can win it from here but we need to go on a great run, actually we have to go on the best run we have in the last 4 years. Can we? Yes, if you take into account we’ll have RvP back for the run in as well as the fact that we don’t play the games with much pressure since we’re not top. Is it up for grabs now?

  40. A

Franchise do you not get that different players excel and struggle in different systems?!

World class players will be ok in any system, but will be BETTER in some than others.

Cesc was fine in last year’s system, he’s been better in this year’s system though, which is designed for him to be better.

Last year Utd’s system was built around Ronaldo, and Rooney was good, but not incredible, this year it’s built to suit Rooney, and Rooney has been much better.

Is it just that you aren’t willing to analyse anything deeper than players being “good”, or “shit”, and therefore get pissed off at people who confuse you?!

  41. Keyser

Franchise – So is everyone, but if I said ‘Franchise thats a load of fucking bollocks’ everytime I thought it, you’d just get upset like you usually do and try to come up with cheap insults.

  42. ritesh

Our midfield is Diaby Cesc and Song…..

Denilson cant get into this team

But I can see Ramsey challenging one of thee three players next year.

  43. SongtheGreat

    afternoon..

anyone who doesnt see the importance Song have in this team…well…

is Song world class..no of course not one doesnt become world class after one good season…can he be..yes of course…will he be..well we just have to wait and see….

he could turn out to be like flamini(god forbid)a one season wonder…

  44. skandibird

Oh, question; is this current (undercurrent) rumour that Daddy Cesc has indeed spoken on Spanish Radio stating that they (the family) will review Cesc’s future in the summer. The scottish bloke reporting from Barcelona claims a 8 and 1/2 % procent chance Cesc will play for Barcelona next year, do any of you reckon any chance of this at all, and if so, surely AFC would ask for mega bucks, in particular as Cesc is contracted until 2014?

  45. Big Raddy

    Senderos is better than Messi….

Was Messi part of the team that didn’t concede a goal to the CL in Paris? No?

    Has Messi ever Captained Switzerland?

    I rest my case.

  46. SongtheGreat

    Skandibird..

barca is a disgraceful club when it comes to transfers and should in my book…be thrown out of all european cups…full stop

  47. A

skandi to me it just looks like the media causing trouble again. The quotes seemed to be basically them asking cesc’s dad about it, and him saying if arsenal accepted a bid then they’d talk to barca, but barca are no different from anyone else, gotta make a bid etc.

Sounded to me just like him saying absolutely nothing, but the media wanting to cause more trouble!

If he went then it would have to be a good £50 mil at least surelt.

  48. ritesh

    Mayank,

These African teams indeed use voodoo. I was watching once a match of ACN and the commentator, Guy Roux one of the senior coaches in France said that one night before the match, there is frantic activity on the pitch with people digging to put bones in front of the goal posts and things like that.

When the ball would inexplicably not go in during the match, Guy Roux shouted, its the Voodoo…

    :-)

  49. Big Raddy

Suga. That is the classic rapist argument…. She said “No, but I could tell she really meant Yes”!

What more can Cesc say? Of course you are right insomuch as Barca have a history on underhand dealings, but not with us. The Silvinho, Hleb and TH sales seemed above board from a supporters viewpoint, but who knows?

  50. Mayank

I actually think there’s more chance of Cesc leaving if we win the PL. Although not immediately of course. As it stands if he leaves Arsenal now he’d be leaving as a player who wasn’t good enough to win the EPL. Winning will give him some closure.

  51. skandibird

Big Raddy – I’m a beleiver; but there are always those (clubs, agents, media etc) who like to stir things…. and it upsets fans like me. I’d like to think he (Cesc) will stay on for at leat one more year.

  52. Ojaimo

    Big Raddy Says:
    February 11, 2010 at 17:30

As to the Theo incident. He had two players around him and clearly expected the ball to rebound off one of them for the corner, it didn’t and he looked an idiot.

    B. Raddy, your excuse for Theo is as laughable as Theo’s display last nite. What Theo did last nite was not different to what Eboue did last season against Wigan and almost everyone shouted for him to be shipped out. Theo had been shit this season end of story. Make no excuses for him.

  53. Mayank

Also he has in-directly said that the PL is better than La Liga by saying that in Spain the CL is more important whereas in England the League is the true test. I think he realises that his career would not be complete w/o Arsenal winning the PL with him.

  54. SongtheGreat

    Ojaimo

being a little harsh on Theo eh….considering all injuries that young lad have had..you couldnt really expect that he would be any better right now..give the lad a decent run of 10-15 games…then we can judge him….me im not sure but i think Theo will come good…

  55. skandibird

‘Mayank’ and ‘A’ you make sense to me; I’m off to Chiswick for a meal with a friend and a belated celebratory drink to toast the win last night, so at the moment it is all good; until …………

  56. A

I love the fact that you won’t present any sort of logical argument to anything Franchise, instead you just try to twist things I’ve said to score points!

Denilson is more of a defensive than offensive player, he was a DM back in Brazil, a DM for Brazil’s youth teams, and the only reason he’s at a big club, is because people saw his defensive capabilities! He’s slow, weak, and short, which takes away from his technical abilities, but his technical abilities coupled with physical abilities would make him a very good DM in my opinion.

Oh i’m sorry though, we shouldn’t analyse things, Denilson is either awesome, or shit, therefore he’s just shit

  57. Keyser

Franchise – Why don’t you point out what you disagree with ? and see if you can come up with an argument yourself ?!

  58. skandibird

I think Theo will come good too; lacking games and confidence, so I’m prepared to give him a bit of slack. As for Denilson, I’m with Geoff on that one. Have a lovely evening boys, enjoy your ‘chatting’.

  59. Big Raddy

Ojaimo. Thankfully I have a different viewpoint to you.

Theo doesn’t need me to make any excuses for him. There is no comparison between Eboue & Theo, one is a man , the other a boy. Theo will be twice the player Eboue ever will be, and I happen to like Eboue as a player. Sadly not as a man.

But football is about opinion, you have the right to view Theo as “shit”, and I have the right to think you are totally wrong.

  60. ritesh

Daddy Cesc said will consider his future at the end of the season. Little Cesc has to concentrate on winning things for the Arsenal for the last 12 games.

So kind of him to say that, thanks for your consideration towards the club.

  61. Mayank

The Denilson situation is a funny one, his performance in the 50 odd games last year had me thinking that he’d be a big player for us this season but his form, or lack thereof has been shocking.
Have to agree with the hacks on this one Denilson just isn’t strong enough. Maybe he should spend the summer bulking up too. Look at the difference to everyone’s favourite Frenchman.

  62. vaardo

Big thanks to Landon Donovan for the boot-to-boot exchange with Cashley. Ash-ole is done for a few months …and lots of tough fixtures ahead

  63. Ojaimo

Songthegreat, Clichy is also coming back from Injury but does that make pple not to criticise him? Some even want him shipped out or demoted to lb no 3 behind Gibbs and Traore. If song or Eboue makes one bad pass or tackle, it is always over hyped in the negative sense. Plain bias I suppose. Yet Some are thinking for Theo to the extent they are telling us what Theo wanted to do.

  64. insidealbania

Fran – I think everyone here knows what you think, so why carry on? The fact that you go and dig 2 year old comments makes you a bit of a sad case imo. And Sharkey was slated for coming on and talking about what people were saying on the blog, which is what you are doing. I think you made the point that you think A is full of shit, why cant you let it go?
As football fans we are all full of shit at times.

Finally we won yesterday and you came on here not to talk about the game, but to talk about a Grover? why is that?

  65. SongtheGreat

    about Denilson…

much is said..and one thing is clear, he has been a massive dissapointment this season…statistics is one thing…how he functions in the team is another..overall.he sometimes seems lost to me…ill put that on young age and not enough experience..still in my book he has to step up to defend a starting place in this team…
one fact he seem to be to unsecure and not strong enough yet…given experience…lets hope he steps up..
and its not unusual that you players have some ups and downs..

  66. insidealbania

Raddy – Do you think Theo will go to SA2010? I personally hope he doesnt, because I think it will be a bit of a reality check for him and spur him to do better next season. And he is young and has 2 more world cups ahead of him.

  67. Ojaimo

    B. Raddy, I’m not questioning your right to opinion. My argument is if Denilson, Song or eboue did what Theo did last nite, will you still be making a positive excuse for any of them as you made for Theo?

It is your Opinion but based on current form, Theo is not worth an Arsenal shirt let alone the 60k a week that he is rumoured to be on.

  68. Mayank

IA, With Beckham and Lennon ahead of him it will be very biased of Mr. Capello to take him as a 3rd RW. However i wish he goes so I have a reason to see England matches.

  69. dennisdamenace

TAIG – It’s just been refurbished, i’ve not been there since this refurbishment. I’ve been about five or six times and the food is amazing. I’d highly recommend any lamb or venison dishes….

  70. tonyadamsisgod

DDM – Cool. I’m a lamb lover so I’ll be getting stuck into that! Had my tasting the other day for my wedding. I told them I loved the lamb but we chose fillet steak for everyone as the safer option. She’s doing me a separate rack of lamb especially for me!! Fuck it, its my wedding!! :D

  71. mark

Bendtner wasn’t, isn’t and never will be good enough. Why oh why didn’t we buy Carlton Cole … good header, fearless, natural goalscorer, leads the line well and not intimidated by the terry’s and ferdinands of this world. Also bound to score against us again when we play West Ham.

  72. Franchise

Nice point Inside. I will stop now. Sorry guys. And re the the comments from 2 years ago it was an easy find. I’ve got a good memory. Being here for hours daily is sad in itself if you wanna look at it that way. We are all sad people :D

I should be ashamed of myself 8O

  73. incesc

theo and clichy will be fine, we have had 4 incredibly hard games in a row, not easy for anyone especially people coming back from injury.

  74. ethangunner

I wouldn’t say Flamini was handy technically, he did some nice things, but I think people forget how unreliable his passing was at times.
    ————————
oh please give it a rest , like denilson or song can pass any better !

flamini – cesc- hleb just about single -handedly responsible for our 2nd place success that year , they were possibly the best midfeild force on offer that season ..

shame our striker woes happened during that season with 19 goal ade prior to Christmas and 5 goal ade after Christmas . As ever in the run down to the important games we just about muffed them all ..

but how can you not react to the stupidity of the above statements .. keyser and A need to get a room !

I’d absolutely have Denilson over Keita, better on the ball imo, and more intelligent, all Keita has over his is pace, power, and size.

    ———————–

Obviously dont know what the fuck your talking about.

Kieta at Denilson’s age was an attacking midfielder and was the heart of the Mali midfield in Ghana/Nigeria 99′

you need to go to New Zealand then :)
i hear marriage to sheep is legal there :)

  77. El Tel

How old is Carlton Cole? I think Cole is a decent CF along the lines of Darren Bent and The Fulham Dude who’s name I forgo but Arsenal class! No way.

Nikki B is a decent CF who is more than just a goalscorer and it was no coincidence that our 3 goals per game dried up when he was injured.

I know RVP was in the side too when we were scoring forr fun but that carried on till Nikki got injured too.

He looks cumbersome at times but he has good Team qualities and he really is a Young Player.

We will be sorry if we let him go.

Re: Theo, He is an enigma who IMO hasn’t done anything forr the Team but it would scare me to see him go as he could become awesome.

Maybe Theo will go to the World Cup as a CF therefore he won’t be competing with Lennon or Beckham.

The pace Engerland could have with Fat Bollocks,Theo and Lennon up front would cause lots of worry for thee Opposition IMO.

  78. zeus

Denilson better than Keita? Hang your head in shame A.

Even for an optimist like you that is surely going too far. I suppose walcott is better than Messi too then…….

  79. A

I can’t say I’ve seen him David for anyone apart from Barca, and for me he’s stuck out for them as way below the level of the rest of the team pretty much every time i’ve seen him

  80. Mr B

Denilson is the greatest DM in the world in any system.

End of debate…… well atleast until A and Keyser come up with some other articulate load of shit like Almunia is the greatest keeper in the world because he once earned an assist by throwing the ball to Cesc

  81. A

Just speculating there choy or you heard something?

Wenger said we won’t know until tomorrow didn’t he? or was the interview from yesteray?

  82. David

Its a new system. Even Sebastian Baron struggled in Utd’s team still the player was World Class.

Zidane took a couple of seasons to settle in Madrid to prove his worth.

Barca have been playing at the highest level and i dont know any player that can just come in and fit into the system without adjusting?

  83. El Tel

Cech was blamed for Saha’s goals last night by some who praised our Fake Keeper for making his first save of the season.

I saw the Saha goals and is true Cech could have saved them but the second one Saha hit very early and unexpectedly, it was a great finish unlike the Dogshit goal where our Keeper saw him turn inside two players and still get a shot off.

Cech also saves a pen, so although the Chavs lost thank fuck he actually kept them in with a chance of drawing the match.

I am a Chav hater and can’t stand the helmet headed Cech but if people on here think our fake Keeper is even close to him they are deluded.

  84. Mr B

Buffon is utter crap…. did u know his team got relegated a few seasons ago. How anyone can think he’s better that almunia is baffling.

Pep is a dud. Arsene knows

  85. A

i think cech is as bad as almunia would be a more accurate description incesc!

yeah David, and their style of play certainly doesn’t suit him either. He is 30 though, not like he’s a young player developing, and he’s been better this season than last, playing in the diaby role as such suits him more, but still don’t rate him at all

  86. ethangunner

    El tel

diaby and nik B for height make them keepers !

actually i wish it did make them ‘keepers’ then we could piss off coco :)

but you know what i mean ! these lads will come on in time , but song and denilson either need more time to develop or wenger should just cut his losses and use their proceeds to get in the RIGHT PLAYERS for the job .

covering the back 4 is too important a job to
give it too a newbie !
you need a commander in the position …
    a veteran… experience…

strengthen some key area’s and we would be a far better team with not that bigger outlay either ..

im sure wenger will have a sell out in the off season . might be a few shock departures also .
either way im sure he has to address some problems next season …. and you will see him sell, prior to buying ..

  87. A

oh ok choy, well that’s ok then! we won’t know until tomorrow, scan results etc. Song worried me, when he did it I thought he might’ve done his knee badly, it was when maxi or insua jumped across him out on the right wing, similar to kolo doing it in the box the other day against bolton

  88. El Tel

    Hi ethan,

    Agree mate,

I also see Diaby replacing Cesc when he goes and not Ramsey or Nasri.

I think Ramsey will play deeper with Song and Nasri will play left of a diamond shaped midfield.

    Song

    Ramsey/Rosicky Nasri

    Diaby

    Just an opinion.

  89. David

I dont know any keeper that couldve saved Saha’s header.

Saha noded that from just outside the six yard box and it was low.
