I am responsible for United defeat says Arsene Wenger

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Yeah we know Arsene, who’s fault did you think we thought it was? Pat Rice’s? Anyway if that’s your way of saying sorry, I accept, what I don’t accept however is this statement…

‘It’s very important that we win something, we’re here to win trophies, but it depends on what you call trophies, Is it the Champions League, the Premier League, the League Cup? If you win the League Cup you cannot say you win trophies for me’

Well at least he’s finally admitting he doesn’t recognise the league cup, something I have been saying now for a very long time, perhaps some of the sycophants will now believe it, as he’s finally admitted why he fields a youth team, that hasn’t a hope in hell of winning it.

What was more sinister though was this outrageous comment…

‘Of course [finishing third is better than winning a domestic cup]. It’s much more difficult’

So after reading this on Pravda, he has now finally got round to telling us, he isn’t interested in the FA Cup either and qualifying for the Champions league is his target, and why? It’s because he gets a huge bonus for qualification and the club earns good money.

I know that  4th place also qualifies but only for the qualifying rounds and not straight in.

So there you have it, from the horses mouth, Arsene and the board are only interested in the continuance of the gravy train, the Champions league shilling. At last it’s out and the doggedness of Le Grove sticking to our guns against all the abuse from certain quarters, that our leader won’t spend money on building a great team because he and his board are just not interested in silverware, it all about making money.

Onto today and our trip to Stamford Bridge, a big well done to Fabio Capello for being man enough to rid the country of that lout Terry from the England captaincy.

That turgid little arse kisser Pearce tried to tell the world, knocking up your best mates bird has nothing to do with football, Stuart, I bet your wife is proud of you mate, what a nice bloke you are, and another great example of celebrity loving, broken Britain.

Fabio, all I want to know is why it took 12 minutes, was it because you laughing yourself silly for 11 minutes and 50 seconds after you tin-tacked the mug and he was begging you to phone his bint?

Well let’s just hope as you are reading this that Cashley has been revealed by the News  of The World as being the 5th man, I’d be surprised, as I always suspected that wasn’t really his thing, girls that is.

So I was offered the chance to sit in the directors box at the Bridge, by a very good friend, I declined his kind offer because it’s a long way back and I wasn’t that confident, that was however before we heard all the news about their shagging, I’m now hoping that will serve to distract them and we’ll get a result, well that and the way they played against Hull.

Mind you, I did say that last week. If he drops the hapless Denilson, we may have a better shape, if the team mans up and act like they want to win then we may have a chance of getting a result.

With the Mancs starting to play football again, we need to win to stay in the race, and with the scousers winning again, we really need to look over our shoulder, so a win will take away some of the pain and maintain a healthy gap in the table.

We absolutely have to play Bendtner and Diaby today to have any chance, I also hope we don’t see Eboue on the wing.

So this is my guess for the team, well it is if we want to show the chavs we mean business, please don’t make them laugh as hard as Fergie must have last week when he saw that team sheet Arsene.

Anyone but Almunia

Eboue Gallas Vermaelen Clichy

Song Cesc Diaby

Rosicky Bendtner Arshavin

I have never in my footballing life heard any manager, let alone an Arsenal one say that finishing third is more important than winning a trophy, so Arsene, let’s at least do that then, and start by winning today.

So the player we tried to sign was Sorenson, if that’s true he needs to drop Almunia, today, but the final word belongs to Cesc, we are offering him a new 5 year contract to stay, why? He already has one to 2014 doesn’t he??? What is the matter with us, that’s 4 years!

Have a great day Grovers, this is a must not lose game.

SS – I don’t know that he could now. If you want to go from ’98 then quite possible. I could be wrong but I think only Mancini & Ancelotti earn more in the premier league (Ferguson maybe….???). Real Madrid are the only definates that would pay him more, but as I say unless he won straight away they’d sack him. He’s better off at a club where his future won’t be questioned by his employers.

I do agree with you partly though, all this talk of bonuses for not spending & the like I just don’t believe it. It’s not like he leads an extravagant lifestyle so why would his bank account mean more than success!!

  2. SharkeySure

Song. The talk of Arsene’s salary and ‘bonus’ is very common on LG, and came up again this last 30mins. go look for yourself

  3. Keyser

Mr B – Why are you looking for an argument ? Try and find a reasoned response and stop being a gimp.

We’re all Arsenal fans, if you want to know what an AKB is, go and look it up, up top.

  4. SharkeySure

Song, that was more harsh than I intended it to be…but the sentiment is basically why talk tyo me if you really think I have no opinion of my own.

If you call someone an AKB, surely thats akin to having no label/thought/insult of your own.

I hope thats a little clearer

  5. colonel mustard

The way I see it, all this will come to a head one way or the other. Either Arsenes philosophy will prove us wrong (unlikely) or one of the other two options,he will improve the team with money or continue like this and run the risk of being replaced. The point being the fans wil not take another year of being a selling club with no improvements and same mistakes being made. Today again, he wished to prove us all wrong by playing Wegnerball. Fine when you have Henry, piries in their pomp but no F***kin now…now way no how …AND not signing a striker. unbelievable. Who going to score. Bentner…!! ha-f**kin-ha….not with his pink concrete boots. Its just sad at the moment so much potential not being realised. oh yeah and we will lose Cesc.

  6. Pedro

I’ve read interviews where Wenger says that he fights for every penny he can get as a manager because of how much he gives.

Plenty of rich people aren’t extravagant, that doesn’t mean they don’t like earning loads of money!

The Billionaire who runs Ikea still drives a Volvo!

  7. Man

This would interest LG readers…just listening to Jazz fm and there’s a football chairlady who just suggested that most teams are looking to run their clubs like proper businesses, a bit like the arsenal, for them to be sustainable ventures…

  8. trindle

It’s not experience we lack, it’s experience of winning. Winning trophies, winning big games … oops, almost forgot, we’ve one a couple of pre-season competitions and we also beat Burgerking 20-0 a couple of years ago.

  9. AA23

well the premiere leage is out of the question now and we’ll get knocked out of the CL by Man U or Chelsea if we can get past Porto.
    Business as usual.
i just cannot believe we never replaced Adebayor or Van Persie.
every single person in the world could see we needed a few additions and we refused to do anything about it.
    fucking shit.

  10. Keyser

Man – Thought that was more down to poor communication, Vermaelen just left Drogba out there and expected Clichy to teleport across of something, than didn’t get the challenge in when he did get back to his position.

  11. dennisdamenace

Young, talented defenders come to us, and have their defensive abilities beaten out of them. Look at the state of out two first choice fullbacks, they quite simply go backwards as defenders, Vermaelen will be next, mark my words, next season he’ll turn into yet another ‘rabbit caught in the headlights’ defender!!

Sol & Gallas are immune to AW defensive “coaching” as they have already grown and matured into proper defenders before they join us…..

  12. skandibird

I said in my post earlier this morning that I did not feel confident, and I was proven right, again, just like the game against Man U………………….. what are we (supporters) suppose to do now then??? Be glad for 3rd (doubt it) or fourth (hmm, not sure even about that now)- I have made a decision based on today’s result; to have my tattoo of ‘Arsenal’ on the inside of my wrist to be covered by, well anything really. If I said to you all that I am very depressed, would it be much of a surprise? How will I sleep tonight.NOT VERY WELL actually!!!!! Thanks a bunch Wenger (mind you what is the point of that, he doesn’t give a shit).

  13. SharkeySure

GMR Think of Scolari now. he has a new job, and is being paid by his new employers whils effectively still being paid by Chelsea (spread out his contract settlement).

Managers who are after personal gain don’t stay at on eclub so long.

    Surely you can see that..??

  14. GMR

You’d drive a volvo if you were Swedish (some of the safest cars in the world).

Wenger did say he fights for every penny but thats in contract negotiations. I don’t believe he earns extra just because he doesn’t spend.

  15. SharkeySure

Pedro…no offence but I don’t believe that you know exactly how the link between his pay and club profit works.

If you or anyone has a link for those quotes then I;d like to see them.

Ps. Apolgies to Geoff as I meant to add earlier that I don’t know if they have been posted before.

  16. Alex

I’ve done the Premier League predictor and we will win the league by one goal on GD! :D

    TEAM P GD PTS
    1 Arsenal 38 +59 86
    2 Chelsea 38 +58 86
    3 Man Utd 38 +55 85

thats if we win all our games and a draw away at stoke

  17. GMR

SS – If Wenger left Arsenal for Madrid & was sacked after 8 months his top earning potential could be over. Of course he’d get another job but whether he’d get another top job on the high income is debateable. Why take the chance when your income is guaranteed & you have no pressure??

  18. Pedro

GMR, a 30 year old Volvo if I was a billionaire?

I wouldn’t drive a volvo is I was a bum and I needed a car to sleep in for a night.

He admitted his pay was linked to the success of the club off the pitch. It’s not up for debate.

  19. Dutchman

It is difficult to swallow a defeat like that when we felt we were the better team.

“Chelsea defended well until the last minute so you have got to give them credit.”

The Frenchman added that he still feels his side could capitalise on dropped points from their rivals.

On the title race, Wenger said: “We are outsiders but we will fight until the last day of the season.

“I believe everyone can drop points. Let’s come back to win our next game first and then see where we stand.”

What an absolute bullshit. Yeah wenger , we are always the better team, huhuh!! And we give always goals away!!! And always the other teams drop points, we too!!!! And always the defeat is hard to take!!!!!
    FUCK OFF!!!!!!!

  20. SharkeySure

    Deduced what Pedro..?? Scolaris pay…??

4 or 5 year contract ended early with pay off. Its like getting two years free pay. He’s getting paid by his new employer isn;t he..??

  21. Pedro

Sharkey, it’d be tough to find out his contract details.

He said it… it’s in the public domain… I wont be hunting it out though.

  22. colonel mustard

to clarify… Vermaelen was the fault for Drogbas second. His head was spinning. Slating Clichy for it is wrong. Two games in a row and our defense melts on a counter.

  23. Man

Keyser – I understand that pressure and just share adrenalin might have clouded their vision/reasoning/reaction etc…but I could have predicted what Drogba was going to do moments before he did…ok he benefited from some lucky ricochets but 2 of our main defenders should have dealt better with that situation, whether it was down to poor communication as you suggest or just simply human error…
I don’t like ascribing blame but in this case its simply too glaring…just hope we do better next time

  24. gambon

    Sharkey

I do think we would be better off with a new manager.7

Mourinho came in in 2004 and raised the bar in this league. ince then Wenger has got nowhere near it. Thats 6 seasons hes had to get to that standard, hes got nowhere near.

    Its time for new ideas.

Wenger vowed to make us better defensively, now we’re worse. That alone is an example of a man who is lost and out of ideas.

  25. dennisdamenace

Individually they are all excellent defenders, Jesus any other EPL club would take a punt on all four of our first choice defensive lineup. The problem is they defend as a unit much like a Sunday League outfit. The fact that they have such a liability inbetween the sticks behind them doesn’t help. AW’s obvious priority with defenders must be ‘can they pass the ball’, secondary to that comes the ability to actually fucking defend!! Who is actually our defensive coach? Anyone know??

The whole defensive issue costs us time and time again, but nothing’s done.

Get a ‘keeper worthy of playing for our great club and get a defensive coach in that knows the skill of defending as a unit.

Then buy a fucking goalscorer to turn al our possession and pretty play into goals.

Until these three areas are addressed we’ll always be playing second fiddle to the real big boys of Europe.

  26. SharkeySure

Funnily enough as bad as these last two weeks have been, we are that far off the best we could have hoped for at this stage, and I’d hazard a guess that not too many expected us to be third at this stage.

Another funny thing is that being so bloody close for a while almost makes it worse.

We’ll continue, and see where we end up.

    The world hasn’t ended.

Raynors earlier posts made a lot of sense to me

  27. Man

Pedro, I think in 2 or 3 years we would be able to spend the sort of money many fans would like us spend…and we would not have to worry less about our sustenance

  28. Keyser

Abramovich came in around 2004 and raised the bar, fuck me if you’re going to look at it like that than Avram Grant got them further than Mourinho did.

  29. GMR

Pedro – what do you mean it’s not up for debate!! Get off your high horse. One minute your talking about people being allowed opinions & then you’re claiming its not up for debate!!

If Wenger said his salary was linked to not spending then provide a link. Of course you won’t be able to so you’re wrong!!

  30. Pedro

Keyser, how well the club does… which is judged by…?

    You guessed it.

*And it ain’t trophies if the board are judging.

  31. Dutchman

DDM, i totally agree with you. If we had defenders who do their defensive work as a unit, we could be fight for the title but when wenger hasn’t got his defence right we can shake it!!

  32. letsGUNN'em

“I am completely happy with the performance and spirit. We didn’t turn up against Manchester United but today we had the expected performance.

“We were completely dominant. I always had the feeling we could come back but you have to give Chelsea credit. They are very experienced at the back.” – Arsene Wenger.

    yeah right!!

  33. SUGA3

    evening all…

no presence? I told you so.
no plan B? I told you so.

Bendtner and Rosicky should have started instead of fat ponce Nasri and Walcott…

  34. Pedro

Getting the high horse chat from you GMR! haha!

I’m not rummaging around for a link to a story I know I read and a story that was debated on Le Grove.

You want the story, you find it amongst the 2000 or so articles on Arsenal.com

The structure of his payments is up for debate, that he said it is not.

  35. SharkeySure

    Slight twist there Pedro !!

Its a thought of mine to ask why some players/managers stick with one club, when there’s more money on offer elsewhere.

It could be love of club, sense of power, freedom to do as he please.

Anyway, I don;t wanna go roundin circles on this. My origonal point is that all this talk of Arsene and his salary/bonus shoud only apply if someone thinks he’s only at Arsenal for the money !!

  36. Keyser

Pedro – A number of factors from the board’s perspective and the managers aswell.

There are bigger clubs than us out there, and while we may not match them on the trophy front right now, we can still be successful in building the club up to where they are, in the future.

  37. SharkeySure

Pedro – so no contract details (understandable) but its stated on LG by all and sundry God knows how many times that theres a link between Arsenals spending and his personal bank account!!!

  38. vavavoom

Just got home from the game, and I really dont know whats wrong with all you people!! What Arsene has done for our club is amazing. Do you remember life before the great man?? We have a team that plays the best football in world football thanks to Arsene. The best ground in the world, thanks to arsene And players with great mental strength and big spirit………Im joking!! Fuck off you nutcase french cunt!!!!!!!

  39. GMR

Pedro – I’m not the one who talks about allowing opinions & then states things are not up for debate.

Of course you won’t rummage around after all why look for something you know doesn’t exist? It’s your site so you should be able to find that post pretty quickly. After all if he said it Geoff would’ve had a field day.

  40. leon

dennis well said gallas verm are very good but when i look at chelsea and manu they defend as unit 5-6-7 players behind the ball this defend as indivuals and is clear have not learned there lesson happend when we played everton again when we played manu and again against chelsea who showed how defend and some fresh ideas is very much needed a defensive coach, for team that wishes to be title contenders we dont have top keeper either.another thing in thi steam is brut stregth particualy up front some with realpower and can score at least 20 goals

  41. colonel mustard

“in the future”….Keyser…..”in the future”……so who is up for sale this summer keyser for the future like…

  42. SUGA3

    Keyser,

will the future be so bright when the attendances drop to somewhere in the area of Highbury capacity, the brand value plummets and we won’t be able to attract players?

  43. Keyser

gambon – He still got them to a Champions League final, heh, if I’m going to go by the gimps rational, he also outwitted someone Mourinho couldn’t, but thats by the ‘gimps’ rational.

Mourinho is also a massive gimp.

  44. Keyser

Colonel Mustard – I dunno, why not wait and see..

..But I don’t want to, are we there yet, are we there yet are we there yet….

  45. SUGA3

    Keyser,

look at the ‘wishful thinking’ starting line up in today’s post, then go and read mine where it is exactly the same – is it a coincidence?

Wenger got it wrong today, simple as…

  46. Man

A little exercise, lets look into the future…

How about we conduct a scenario analysis, the starting point being that all clubs were run like proper business so only winning/taking part in the most profitable competitions became the priority for clubs, players were only bought on the bases of their long-term worth…the FA cup goes the same way as the CC…

  47. Pedro

GMR, Drogba scored today. You can’t debate that.

The same as what Wenger said about his pay.

You can debate the ins and outs all you like, but he said it.

I’m not going to rummage around for something you can look for. You’ve got the same google as I do.

  48. gambon

Dein was a football man, the current board dont give a fuck.

The likes of Ken Friar never did, during his time as MD no money was made available to any Arsenal manager, george graham hated him.

  49. GMR

Pedro – you’re right I can’t debate that Drogba scored, but I can challenge what you’re saying. I’ve been on google & nothing comes up about Wenger saying that (as I’m pretty sure you know).

  50. SharkeySure

Pedro – even with the ‘quotes’ I remain unconvinced of the general interpretation of them found on here.

But surely its fair to ask that you ‘support’ your comments.

Its your ‘comment’/'assertion’ and GMR’s challenged it…you can;t then ask him to go fiond the support for your statements. Thats a little insane, Shirley..??

  51. SUGA3

    Man,

I would rather discuss this ‘nonsense’ – why is that a ‘nonsense’? since Dein left, we have won fuck all…

when Dein bought shares for some louse few hundred grand, PHW said it was a poor investment and is still incapable to grasp the whole idea of modern football…

I would love to hear some reasonable counter arguments to that ;)

  52. SUGA3

    SS,

I am not going to get into some kind of ‘did not – did too’ crap ;)

it was simply a right and reasonable starting lineup, using your best available assets to their strengths…

  53. Man

    Suga, are you being serious??
Dein like most people looked after himself, he did well from his involvement with arsenal…I’m sure you can find out more info on this, its quite boring we’ve had this debate on LG several times!

We’ve been to two cup finals since Dein left, was pretty close to winning the league in 2007/8 season…need I go on

I think the word you are looking for is ‘coincidence’

  54. gambon

    Man

So Dein used to travel with Arsene to all away games, and go and watch all reserve games to look after himself?

  55. SUGA3

    Man,

I think the word I’m looking for is ‘delusional’ – there are no ‘coincidences’ with this kind of money on the table: if you compare the overall quality of the squads before and after we lost teeth in the transfer market you will know what I’m getting at…

this team would get shat on and left for dead by the team we had a few years ago…

  56. Pedro

Sharkey, I’m not sifting through google or the Le Grove archives to find an article that is over a year old… that I know exists.

If you didn’t read it, that’s fine.

If you think I’m lying, that’s your call. However, I can assure you the comment is there if you want to take the time out to look for it.

Anyway, I’m off to write tomorrows post.

No calling each other cunts when I’m good!

  57. MM

There is surely a lot of misconception on the board about Wenger. Its not a bout the money for AW, its about Principles. The man is obsessed more about proving his theory (of developing talent etc) than about money. Unfortunately obsession with principles is worse than obsession with money. AW could have been a very rich man by opting to buy shares in the club, he refused because he didnt want to be conflicted. Its sad to see better stats in todays game, yet still lose. if we had a top striker upfront we would win. AW has made a monemental mistake by not buying.
If i was Arshavin or Cesc i would be thinking that there is no point performing your best because evrything breaks down at the final hurdle.

  58. vavavoom

I know David Dein very well, and let me tell you now, he loves the club and wanted what was best for it!!! He was shafted by this shit board. And for all those who will come on now and say he shit on the club when he sold his shares, It was done to try and get rid of the board and get this club back on track, as he could see what was going to happen! That is a fact! To his horror it hasnt worked out the way he planned. David dean was Arsenal football club and the day he was pissed on was the day we started to crumble.

  59. Man

    Suga

The difference in the team you rightly observed is a change in strategy, I can’t see how you can be attribute to the absence or presence of Dein…

    Gambon

That he looked after himself and being passionate about Arsenal are not mutually exclusive objectives…

Dein did a good job and got rewarded for it, how he chose to do his work is neither here or there. Since he departed AW has remained and carried on working and by all accounts Arsenal are in a better state than ever…

If you guys are have a soft spot for Dein, congrats, you keep worshipping
    I’m forward looking

  60. El Tel

I wasn’t impressed with the Chavs at all and in all honesty the 4 shots on target they had was not going to be a team with a decent keeper. However everyone but Wenger can see that this is the worst keeper in living memory.

He certainly was the reason for the first goal as it was form a dead ball situation and he didn’t again organise HIS defence, he is our vice fucking Captain ffs, he also didn’t make himself big on the first goal yet this man is enormous.

The 2nd goal was even worse as Dogshit did nothing more than welly it on target, yes it had power but if the CUNT stood up it would probably have hit him in the midriff, apparently he closed his eyes too.

I can’t remember the 3rd shot on target but I think it was Cuntleys effort from a wide angle that he dived on, as although it was a very wide position I thought it had him beat too.

The free kick that hit the bar was the final effort and yet again HIS wall was non existent, HIS wall.

Does he look angry NO does he care NO as long as this joke is in goal we will suffer and even though I don’t want Wenger out yet his reputation is fucked when he believes this waste of space is a keeper.

I also think Clichy is the most over rated LB in football today. Can’t tackle, out of position all the time, can’t cross, can’t head so what the fuck does he do? Ah yes he talks French.

Eboue was outstanding when he came on and scared Cuntley shitless by running at him. Shame Walcott and Sagna couldn’t do that in the time theey were on.

If we started with the Team that finished we could have beat them instead of giving them a game for 20 minutes. Wenger was running scared and gave theem far to much respect just as some writing on here are doing.

IMO the Chavs are a falling star and the Russian will have to spend massively to get them back to where they should really be. The Mancscum are average too this year and if Fat bollocks gets injured they will struggle.

We MUST hang in there as there is a chance. Liverpool were nowhere a month ago and their fans wanted Benitez gone but through hard work they have turned it round.

This isn’t delousonal just how it could be.

Wenger this year although unlucky with injuries has also been below par tactically in the games that matter.

Wenger has already signed a player for the summer in Chamakh, he will get him for nothing which is annoying but understandable. He could have loaned someone up front till the Morrocan arrives so yes he has failed us.

The fact he hasn’t got a keeper is beyond belief though and to wait till the final day of the window to sign Sorrenson is crazy.

I think we will do better in CL too unless we get the Chavs or the Scummers as we have the past couple of seasons.

A one off game in the Final against an English Team wouldn’t be too bad but over 2 legs no chance.

    Up The Gunners.

  61. SUGA3

    Man,

you seem to fail to understand the way Dein was and still is influential in the world football…

he’d have Ivan for breakfast any day IMO…

  62. SharkeySure

Naah no accusations of lying Shirley…I just have a fear that its been taken wildly out of context and is now used by the Anti Arsene camp as another stick to beat him with.

Arsene’s ‘bonus’ has become almost ‘factual’ amongst most of this community.

It dangerous. I saw the same thing happen on here with the ‘Arsenal have cancelled our road beer’ article back in the summer. A lot of posts that morning were ‘complete outrage’ at the club, until it was clarified that it was Islington councils doing !!!

    Beware the urban myths !!

  63. BozinT

Guys I think now I know how not to be depressed about our results and position (and winning titles). The solution is simple, we are not a title winning side yet, we can not much the great powerhouses of football (they let us have possession, not that we are very good to have it as “Le Professor” says!).

We should be happy with top 4 place, and we will still be happy and praise our team when we beat Sunderland next Saturday (if we can that is).

    Cheers for being happy!

  64. SharkeySure

The Chesney loan extension was very surprising…well more disappointing actually.

    He’s 19 and about 6’5. Its not like he’s 15 or something.

Oh, and will someone please tell Coco that we already have all the evidence we need of his ‘unique inability’ and that he can stop the pre-rehearsed fuck ups now !!!

  65. El Tel

Leave Ken Friar alone, he has The Arsenal running through his veins.

He was discovered kicking a ball up the wall as a kid outside the Arsenal Stadium and his dream came true when he was given a job with the love of his life.

Hill Wood is a City Banker and IMO is the reason the Club is run like a Bank.

I loved the Old Etonian valuse The Arsenal have stuck too but that was so last Century.

  66. Ja_Gunner

Again guys I think Wenger should take a long look at his failings and move forward with this team/formation for next year…

Since Chamakh will come in..go to 4-4-2 diamond when atacking and 4-5-1 defending

    1st team

Walcott is not a fucking winger..he does not have any tricks…lets just get him thinking about scoring only……..If we play him with Bendy, Chamakh or RVP, I think he will do well….

  67. Man

    Suga,

I’m quite liking this now…so you mean Dein was actually Tony Montana?…Maybe those wins/trophies we won maybe be put down to his intimidation of opposing players’ families rather than AW and the players

  68. El Tel

How can the Chavs take the credit tactically by some of letting us have the ball.

We made them look like slugs throughout the match and apart from the counter attacks and shit goalkeeping we didn’t look in too much trouble.

We had them on the back foot forr long spells of the game.

I don’t watch many matches other than the Arsenal so I was expecting them to be much better than they actually were.

We need a striker or two and a goalkeeper.

The full backs can be replaced with Eboue and Gibbo when he returns, I just don’t see Wenger dropping Clichy.

  69. BozinT

El Tel, sorry mate but I dont agree. Chelsea was sinning 2-0 and they know that we are not dangerous when in possession. Even if we had additional 90 minutes we wouldn’t have scored. They just play good defence.

Teams with quality defenders know how to play us and we can’t do anything about it. It hurts me to say it, but it seems true..

    I hope I am wrong….

  70. El Tel

    SUGA

Thanks for the you tube clip on Schezney.

It has upset me big time to think we have a talent like him and persist with Coco.

The Pole made more saves in that 5 minute clip than the imposter has made in 3 seasons.

I think Wenger is trying to prove you can win the League with 9 men/boys.

  71. SharkeySure

Almunia did some things pretty poorly today but conceding the two goals wasn’t anyone of them imo.

I’d like to know why he never told Clichy to get back on his fucking post when he saw him tiptoeing past him ON THE INSIDE !!!

I thought it was odd that there was none on that post as I know we pretty much always ‘do both posts’.

Watching the replay made my stomach drop….

I’d watched 9 yr old footballers with more sense only two hours earlier !!

  72. A

    Honestly SUGA?!

I don’t rate Almunia at all, but to blame him for either goal today is just deluded imo!

First goal was just terrible all round, poor organisation, Vermy, Song, Cesc, Clichy all at fault, maybe included Gallas too as the experienced centre back who should be organising things.

Second goal Clichy and Vermy, don’t get how you can blame Almunia for it!

  73. El Tel

    BozinT

I saw a different game then as their defence was opened up many times but Cech saved them plus the fact we have no forwards.

I don’t rate the Chavs and can see why teams like Stoke and Hull nick points off them.

  74. Wrighty7

Must say as well that Graham Souness deserves a gee-up.

He and Charlie Nicholas are the only two on TV who give Arsenal praise.

Also the away Gooners; DIFFERENT CLASS!

  75. A

Sharkey we re-watched that time and time again after the game to try and work out what was going on!

Carvalho was unmarked on the edge of the box, Arshavin came back shouting that he was unmarked, Clichy reacted to that and shouted to Cesc, Cesc moved towards Carvalho to go and mark him, though didn’t even get halfway towards him, Arshavin eventually dropped in to try and mark him, and Clichy went to cover Cesc’s position, but there was noone to cover Clichy!

Absolutely terrible organisation all round there, poor by all of them, especially the experienced players.

  76. El Tel

Not in a gay way I hope Wrighty mate.

I smell a fight as Arsene (A) has entered teh building.

Bet you he is an expert on Keepers now.

  77. SharkeySure

I agre that we bossed it El Tel, I just worry that the scoreline left the Blue Scum happier to let ys hsve the ball.

Yes they would be happy to play us on the counterattack at at 0-0, but the crowd would really be on their backs.

Even at 2-0 down, our possession seemed to piss their crowd off.

Its really starting to look as simple as bringing in a defensive coach/bringing back Keown !!

Arsene’s got to be looking at the defensive stats, and recognising that what he promised to fix hasn’t really been fixed JUST by signing a pretty good CB in TV.

Although how you plan for a loss of form like Clichy’s of late is beyond me.

Even re Coco. Whilst he’s never been great, he really is giving me nightmares these days. Before he had very few wonder saves, but also very few blatant fuck ups..so he was bearable.

  78. El Tel

    A

I do agree that the defenders were at fault but the Keeper does little.

Cech was exposed a few times but he read the situation and made the saves.

  79. A

Fair dos SUGA, though I don’t believe it’s possible to say ANY keeper in the world WOULD have saved either.

Either would have taken a wonder save. Wonder saves are like wonder goals, some keepers make them more often like other, but like a 30 yarder, or a top quality free kick taker, although the better the player the better the chance of it coming on, no player does it every time.

  80. A

I dunno about that el tel, Cech was pretty lucky with the saves, especially the arshavin volley, he made alot of mistakes too – really is a shadow of his former self.

  81. El Tel

Love you too Wrighty and your blog. Always a great read Buddy.

    SharkeyS

The only thing coincidental about all the chopping and changing in defence is that haphazard fake in goal.

Be honest he has never been reliable since day one.

I remember having a bet along with the other Stewards on the scores and it was always Arsenal however many v Nil to the Opposition.

Over the past 3 seasons it is always 4-1 3-1 even fucking 3-2.

He is fucking hopeless. Keepers do win games on their own as that guy Mayhill has done the past few weeks.

  82. A

Really hope Szczesny will be ready to take over in the summer, give him a chance in pre season.

I REALLY expected Fabianski to be number one by now, if it doesn’t happen by the end of the season I reckon that’s him done, he needs to play.

  83. SUGA3

    A,

please stop this ‘Cech is a shadow of former self’ bollocks – tell me that you wouldn’t love to have him between the sticks, I dare you

  84. A

Lol that would never happen SUGA! A new keeper could potentially not come in though because of not wanting to kill Szczesny….

  85. SharkeySure

Fair dos A re the disorganisation…but an experienced pro leaves his post like that.

Leave the near post to prevent/defend a short corner possibly…but the back post completely unguarded like that..??

Time and time again I looked at our defensive line on set pieces and was astounded to see the likes of Terry and Ivanovic unmarked or being picked up by Theo. Coco does not seem to say or do anything about it

Defensive header at set piece from Theo today !! Good header from him, but a very bad sign for us.

  86. A

I’d rather him than Almunia SUGA, but would rather not have him! Wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Chelsea replace him in the summer. You saying you didn’t notice the times he came inexplicably for crosses and missed them today? He even injured Terry with one of the worst ones!

  87. El Tel

    A

You are right about Cech but he snuffed out a few chances today and his handling was confident.

The point I have always maintained about our fake keeper is this.

If a striker has to think about what he is doing when shooting then the longer it takes the harder it becomes.

With Coco they don’t need to think to long they just have to hit the target and generally it goes in.

He is suspect from any angle and any distance.

  88. A

Yeah SUGA, but if he hadn’t left his post them there would have been noone at the six yard box blocking a ball into the front post, which could’ve cost a goal too. Either way it’s absolutely attrocious for a team to either have a man like Carvalho totally unmarked, noone on the back post, or noone in Cesc’s position, and whatever happened one of them was inevitable, such was our terrible organisation overall!

  89. Man

Cech did a good job today I’ve got to admit that.

Maybe a loan spell for Fabianski might help him…we could a stable cheap duty for Almunia…Next season we’ll have 2 poles for the goalie position, AW is obviously paid to decide who’s number 1.

You could actually be young and still be number 1 goalie for a big team, see Casillas

  90. SharkeySure

    Agreed El Tel.

Silent keepers who do not communicate well are the absolute worst to play in front of.

Its like a cancer of disorganisation spreading up thru the team.

We’ve all seen the ‘looks’ he gets from all the back line…even from someone who appears to be as even tempered/mild mannered as Sagna.
