That was on an individual performance basis.
He has to be a match winner if he is paid this kind of money. But I am realistic, he plays in midfield, he has no physical presence like Gerrard and Lampard and he cannot turn a match around when he is playing against the best. He is already puching beyond his height, so good for him.
What I dont agree is that the Arsenal team puts hope on players like him in the big matches. He tries but its beyond him, so Wenger must be realistic and accept he needs players with pedigree. Like Arshavin.
I even like Eboue in the big matches, he is not phased, he goes for it, he wants it. Not like Sagna or Clichy. Some players are good against Hull, Portsmouth, Bolton.
But on the big stage, they cannot make it….. Its a french disease which was prevalent duing the Michel Platini days. France was World Champion of frieldlies. But when it counted, they would blow it away.

I think it would be wrong to question cesc’s quality.He is absolutely top class.It is unfair that he has had to play with the likes of denilson diaby and song(Diaby and Song were rubbish for 2 good years and i still have doubts about diaby).If wenger goes out and buys the right players i have no doubt that Cesc will stay with us

Arshavin recently said we have players with talent. He also implied that our players lack class. He cannot go past Clichy in training but Nani tore him apart.
This means we have good players but they cant make it on the big stage. Clichy is but one example of a number of such players.
We should be more careful on how we spend our money. Not just through little millions here and there until wage bills suffocate us so much we cant sign players.

Why are we worried about giving one of the worlds best players a £20k pw pay rise, especially after losing the likes of Flamini, Hleb, Cole over similar things.
We should be worrying about why Almunia, Fabianski, mannone, Traore, Hoyte, Gilbert, Djourou, Denilson, Randall, Walcott are earning any wages at all.

well said, gambon. If Cesc leaves in the summer, there;ll be a huge outrage. Wenger is a real no-win situation. As gambon said, the likes of Gilbert, Randall and other substandard players probably will have a greater cumulative impact on the wage bill.
The real question is whether Cesc is angling for a move threatening to leave in retturn for higher wages.

Gerrard also plays with some crap player. But he is constantly a match winner. Plus he is not phased in big games.
Rooney also played with many crap players for many months when Manure was a joke team. But he kept turning up. And not go missing in big matches.
