If he’s 23 and not 18 have him. I have the answer for a new captain of England!

by & filed under Uncategorized.

I talk of Moses of course, not the one that led the Israelites out of the desert and into the promised land, but the one that currently plays for Palace. If he’s really not 18, that’s not a bad thing is it, we have enough of those already!

Perhaps Moses (the real one) is at our gaff, the way we’re going, it may take 40 years to win something!

Today I want to talk about Palace for a bit, no one likes to see a team in trouble, especially a London team, but Simon Jordan has never tried to make the footballing world love him, and employing Neil Warnock, the Andy Capp of managers didn’t help him, or as it seems, Crystal Palace.

Now I’m no expert, but I thought Jordan thought he had bought the ground when he bought Palace, but I understand he got stitched on that one, so was always on the back foot, now I’m guessing so please don’t take that as gospel.

What I do find amusing is watching Ron Noades, now a regular on Sky Sports News,  painting himself as the wise old man of football, and in his day he had to be head cook and bottle washer, he suggested that, not me!

Well I know Ron Noades a bit, in fact he’s a neighbour of mine, I even remember having a lively debate with his charming wife once, anyway, the Ron Noades I know is not quite the Dickie Attenborough of football he makes out to be. So this bloke who comes across as a caring old chap who loves nothing more than helping old ladies across the road, eating jellied eels and watching a game from the terraces is not quite what he seems.

The Ron Noades I know gets on a plane, pays for a ticket in economy but when he needs a leak, he goes through the curtain into business and uses the club class toilet, he does it every time I’ve shared a flight with him, doesn’t want to pay the full fare, but wants to use the facilities of those that do! Now in my book, that’s no different to cheating at golf.

A little bit sneaky.

And someone that does that when flying, may not play life with a bat as straight as he makes out, so for all his digging at Simon Jordan, I’d like to know if he did something to him when he first bought the club, who knows eh? We haven’t heard from Mr Jordan.

Back to Moses, is he worth a punt? I’ve never seen him play, but as we only have until midnight on Monday, he may be our last chance of a signing. All the hope in December, dashed yet again by the end of a window, ho hum.

All we have now is the hope of a miracle that all above us collapse, we beat them both and that Nikki B comes of age and stays injury free till Robin come back and gets injured again.

Red nose said this, ’Sometimes, I can’t make out these chants but I know there’s been some terrible abuse from our fans to Arsene Wenger and there must be a line drawn’

First of all if he can’t make out the chants he must be blind as well as stupid and does anyone else wonder why he’s left it until two days before the game with us to mention it? Cynical or what? I hope our fans near the dug out give him some serious shit.

On a final note, with all the lurid and unsavoury stories about John Terry coming out today, is now the time to finally take the leap and make Theo Walcott captain of England? It could bring his form back, what do you think?

‘Theo Walcott, saviour of England’

Have a great day Grovers one more to go before the defining moment of our season, tomorrow I rally the troops!

    Mismanagement luke

Is it a coincidence that Ferrara got the sacking?

    Ofcoarse not.

Diego went to Juventus at 23…the same age Diaby is now…and was going up in his career…

Wenger is guilty of mismanagement of playser too…everybody is…so its not clear cut and dry…

  2. stonroy

Spot on about Reyes MG, that’s why we need some good strong English players, they like to get stuck in for the physical battle.

  3. Pedro

Wenger would never spend 30mill on a player!

To be honest, there aren’t many that are worth that…

20mill though… there are plenty that I think are worth that.

    Gignac… no way.

I’d agree with David though… Diego is a special player, Ferrara is an especially bad manager.

  4. Pedro

Reyes was always perceived as a shite signing… but if you look at his assists and goals, they were pretty impressive.

Just not compared to Bobby P!

  5. David

    Luke thats what im saying

Diego is worth 25m…not just for the fact that he’s a fantastic player…but the fact that he is young and has …wait for it…Resale value!

  6. David

    I agree with that Pedro

i dont understand why Reyes is looked like such a disaster…for the time he was here he produced more than Berbatov has…hahaha…okay…im couldnt help saying that.

  7. luke

Doubt any club would buy Diego for 25 after his performances this year. Hes been horrible! I have two friends who have supported Juve for upwards of 40 years and they hate Diego! Not as much as melo though…

  8. Pedro

In his last season for us he got 6 goals and 14 assists.

For all the love Hleb got, he never got more than 11 assists.

  9. ManGoonian

    Pedro;

I am not slating Reyes, the player… Nope, he was excellent… There’s no way we’d spend the amount on him and not be a top player… It was the emotional make up of the fella that went against him and meant he never lasted long over here…

I also remember that game up at OT, where, once again, the ref’s allowed the opposition to kick lumps out of us… he was targeted something rotten…

  10. luke

Thats what Im saying Pedro. David is arguing that Diego was not a bad buy for 25 because he is young and has resale value. He was purchased last summer for 25 million, and no club would come close to that for him this year IMO

  11. David

    hahaha  @ “midgets”

Im not clamoring for Diego…im just saying he is not as terrible a signing as you are making him to be luke.

And i dont doubt that if Arsenal had got him…hed have been a beast.

Still if 25m is too much for you we couldve had that dutchman who plays his trade at Inter milan now.

And the whole Anelka thing is looking more and more of a damn shame.

    Pedro

did you get those baseball tickets?

  12. Pedro

ManG, people often cite that game at OT… and it was brutal… but it’s just a game of football… surely he could have got over that?

I think it went down the shitter for him after he laughed at the racist comment the Spanish coach made…

I also heard he couldn’t read or right and language was tough for him.

  13. ManGoonian

I think Reyes was the most fouled player in la Liga, he would’ve been used to rough treatment, but the violence allowed over here, probably put him off a wee bit, plus the shite weather and Eastenders…

Seville is a fantastic City, with glorious weather, fantastic food and gorgeous chicas!!!

  14. Pedro

No David, I was just asking for comparison. I wanted to know whether it was easier to get seats for American sports.

I agree… Diego would have been great for Arsenal. I think he plays like Diaby will do one day.

Just goes to show you… buying from the German league is risky. I’m still undecided about Dzeko…

  15. ManGoonian

    Pedro;

I just think he got homesick… Not as bad as that other Sevilla player who cant even go to away games, or on national team duty with Spain due to being a complete wuss!

  16. David

    luke

now would be a good time to go for Diego imo…Juventus would be looking to cut their losses…

    12m should do it.

We all watched Chamakh today. Good player but he will prob get bullied and kicked around in the prem.

Dzeko i like because he wont get pushed around.

  17. ManGoonian

    Pedro;

I think it is a gamble buying from other leagues…. Grafite, Dzeko’s strike partner scored more than him last season, yet looked like a Pub league player in the Champions league games…

    ————————–

I wasnt advocating we buy him, we have enough skillful attacking midfielders. I was using him as an example of how splashing the cash (24.5) doesnt always turn out good, and I think you’d agree as youre saying we could snag him for half of what he went for last year. I want a transfer as much as the next gooner, and I think we can all agree Wenger has an eye for talent (Arshy/Vermy). If wenger doesnt bring anyone in, I trust that he hasnt found anyone as good as arshy/vermy for realistic prices. Im not an AKB dont get me wrong, but I think we need more of a reason to splash the cash then Dzeko. Im off, COME ON YOU GOONDERS!

  19. David

    yea luke

    Before you go

I am in agreement with alot of gooners that Arsene’s starting XI is good enough to win the leauge.

Trouble is they are never fit and the back up are youth players.

We dont necessarily need players that are “better than what we have” because that would suggest that the Starting XI isnt good enough to win the League as it is.

We need are good squad players to do a job when called upon…our best bench player is Eboue.

So while i do not mind the transfer dealing when it comes to getting a first team player like Arshy/Verm and the patience it takes to get those kinds of deals for the players…it still doesnt excuse that we need able backups at defensive positions.

    God forbid Song gets injured.

  20. ManGoonian

    David;

I think we have good back up in almost every area…. The trouble has been, even our back up have been effin injured at the same time!

However, there does seem a lack of cover for the DM and main striker positions (hardly a surprise to most, I know!) And if we don’t sign at least a striker, then I will be praying we get no other injuries and the likes of bendy plays a blinder for the rest of the season…

  21. ManGoonian

    David;

I think Sol has been a top signing, plus it ticks all the right (or cheap) boxes! He was excellent vs Villa mate…. And even the much maligned Silvestre has done well for us…

Wenger obviously wanted a CB, thats why he went for Smalling, unless he just wanted to get the Mancs to spunk some money they dont have!!!

  22. David

Well im not really convinced ManG

Its only been 2 games even though i admit Sol has been nothing short of stellar. But as i said its only been 2 games so forgive me if i dont get ahead of myself with that one…

The DM situation is a broken record. But what about the GK position? Lehman was at least 2 seasons past it :D

  23. luke

Absolutely agreed David. Fair way to end the debate. Sorry I missed that earlier but I had to go. COME ON YOU GOONERS!

  24. ethangunner

The players will turn up, INCLUDING Bendy! he was outstanding vs Villa when he came on, which all things consided, length of absence etc… Was OUTSTANDING…
    —————————
ill trust ya MG , but if your WRONG :)

  25. ethangunner

one things for sure it will be a cracker of a game ..
what ever the result im sure this is one you wont fall asleep watching :)

  26. iqwoo

By tomorrow, we’ll announce the Begovic deal and probably a loan for Remy/Chamakh or the purchase of some African country.

  27. Tariq

Guys….we HAAAVVVEEE to beat this team full of lil pieces of shit! Is it normal if I hate Batty Man. United more than the Spuds? Where I grew up there are no Spud fans, mostly Batty Man. United fans. And tonight I had to beat the living piss out of some gay ass fan who referred to Arsenal as “a team full of french n!ggers and fans who need to be shoved back up their mothers aids infested cunts”. Now I can appreciate some good old banter, but bringing race and shit like that into it, goes way over the line for me, so I had no choice but to slap him silly with a bottle of Red Stripe! If we lose tomorrow, or even draw. I might have to keep myself at home, because if I run into any United fan, I fear there will be a repeat of earlier tonight! Damn, it’s a good thing I stopped playing football!

  28. nishanth

Robin Van Persie is likely to give Arsenal’s title hopes a huge boost with a return to fitness in the middle of March, rather than the date of mid-April which had been previously forecast.

The Holland striker, who ruptured ankle ligaments against Italy in November, returned last week to training at Arsenal and is now walking freely again.
And though his club manager, Arsene Wenger, has cautiously set April as a projected return date, doctors in Holland connected to the national team expect him to be ready to play in seven weeks.

  29. AA23

if anyone thinks we’ll beat man u YORE DELUSIONAL.
some of you come on here and think we have a chance like A
he thinks he can TELL US WHAT JOURNERLISM IS!!!!
maybe if AA23 or RoSICKY play well we have a chance
    But no thanks to Wenger
he should have LISTENED TO ME

  30. AA23

    Worried about the match.
I think we are the better side and we play better football, but they have a tendency to step up well when the pressure is on and in must win situatuons and we have a tendency to bottle it in the same scenario.
Plus Rooney Vs Almunia will only have one winner, we need to score more than him.
    Come on you mighty reds.

  31. nishanth

AA23-It is all about taking our chances.I am sure we will end up creating more chances than them. But we need to take our chances

  32. AA23

    You are right nishanth
I hope our arseholes dont go.
we can smash man u when there is no pressure, but when it actually means something they tend to have an edge over us.
We are a better side and I hope the boys step up and do the business.

no one gives a shit about the third world dump you live in either. Nonce.
just kidding mate you are a top poster.

  38. Moray

    quote from Wenger:

“Marouane Chamakh is not available because he is playing with Bordeaux and Bordeaux don’t want to release him. David Villa as well, Valencia don’t want to let him go.”

Does this mean we seriously considered signing David Villa? That would be fucking cracking: for Fab, for goals and as a statement of intent that the Arsenal still have ambition. We could thne pay him right midfield with dwarf Arshavin leading the line ha ha.

…or, more likely, is Wenger blowing smoke up our arses again?

  39. AA23

    typical ethan
starts a fight then goes running to Geoff and Pedro for help.
    cowardly prick
just kidding ethan, your posts are quality.

You can try and win all you want :)
however i will kick you like a kung fu master all over this blogosphere !

  42. ethangunner

oh yes A = a person pre – season who said we dont need
a striker pre – season ethan your delusional ! ..hmmmm

    also said …..

dudu is the most clinical finisher in the league
    ..

also says denilson anf flamini are the SAME !

yes his knowledge and yours astounds me !

as for me and MG , we are partners in crime !
he unlike you , does have a sense of humour !

  43. gnarleygeorge9

The game comes on the tele @ 2.55am, but I’m taping it on Mystar. That means a good nights sleep, then get up casually @ say 7.00am & watch it. To be honest I’m not confident about 3 points so @ 5.00am if its all gone pear shaped I won’t kick the cat, etc. through lack of sleep & a shit result.

  44. gnarleygeorge9

So its the 31st of January & Le Gaffer hasn’t bolstered his amo reserves, apart from Sol, so I must admit I am a bit disappointed. Unlike some on here who go a bit early, I choose to wait till it actually hasn’t happened to allow the emotions to start flowing, & they are begining to start.

The papers said he would buy, but it appears that he aint.

The Arsenal are in a position to win the PL & CL but apparently Denilson will save us. Fat chance of that :(

  45. Moray

Here it’s on a midnight, which is perfect.

Gnarley – will you be checking the result at 5am to decide whether to watch the game?

  46. gnarleygeorge9

Moray if I get up @ 5.00am, I will most likely check to see if the recording has completed (I’ve set it to 5 minutes past the 5.00am ptogramme finish & watch the replay. If The Arsenal go 0-2 before half time I will check the final result & move on.

The trouble is with this current squad is that old Winston Churchill quote keeps running through my brain

“Never was so much owed by so many to so few” Cesc, Vermy(now Sol) Billy G, Arswaxin, Rigobert’s nephew Billabong Alex Song (yes Geoff I rate him), Mozart, Nasri & lately Diaby. The rest are just making up the numbers.

  47. nishanth

I will be really really surprised if we end up signing someone. There might be some truth behind the begovic story though

  48. Micky Did It 89

    Morning all.
I feel it is going to be a good day.
Gnarley, since we are on Churchillian quotes, I am reminded of one, in context of AW’s ramblings on transfer activity, WC said of Ramsay MacDonald…. (he has) “the gift of compressing the most amount of words into the smallest amount of thought.”

  49. Pat

The article on Arsenal.com says Wenger didn’t sign a player “until now.”

Slip of the tongue? My money is on Begovic or Chamakh.

Remy came off injured today, unless it was a precaution for a possible deal…

  50. Micky Did It 89

Looking forward to Geoff’s post. A call to arms, I imagine. A ‘once more unto the breach..’ kinda deal!

  51. Pat

“I think it’s done. Victor is going to the Premier League and I think £2.5 million is a snip for one of the best young players we’ve got,” confirmed Warnock.

“Manchester City should have bought him ages ago instead of messing about, but another Premier League club have made an offer.

“I’ve spoken to a lot of managers over the last six months and one of the managers who should have taken him in the last window has come to his senses. I expect to see Victor do very well in the Premier League and I’m looking forward to watching him.”

  52. Micky Did It 89

Pat: I thought he was going to some weird shit place like Bolton. Still, £2.5m is about our price range!

  53. Pat

Actually, I’m guessing we’ve signed Moses. IN the interview, Wenger talks about finding a “Ronaldo.” That implies we bought a player with potential.

I think Moses is ours. I know fuck all about him though

  54. Micky Did It 89

So imagine, we sign Moses, then the young Israeli bloke from Barca that we are talking to. You can see where I’m going with this. Leading out of the wilderness and all that!!

  55. Micky Did It 89

Nishanth: bad news, that. lets face it, its Den, Eboue or Nas. I dont thing Rambo will play there. So I guess the smart money would be on Den. Personally, I would go with Nas.
Hope they dont stick someone like Fletcher on Cesc.

  56. nishanth

Will be interesting if bendtner isn’t fit enough to start today
    Almunia Sagna Campbell(Vermaelen) Gallas Clichy
    Song
    Cesc Nasri
    Rosicky Vela
    Arshavin
No point in playing theo against evra.Might as well use vela against their RB

  57. Micky Did It 89

What’s wrong with Bendy? He will provide the lay-offs for the surging runs of AA and Mozart.
    Al
    Sag Gall Sol/Verm Clichy
    Cesc Song Nas
    Ros Bendy AA

  58. Micky Did It 89

Agree with you on Theo, although not for that reason. I would not pick him as his form does not merit a start. Hate the idea of players selected to find their form. Particularly in a game like this. That is what the reseves are for, or bring player on for 20 mins when you are coasting.

  59. Pedro

“Marouane Chamakh is not available because he is playing with Bordeaux and Bordeaux don’t want to release him. David Villa as well, Valencia don’t want to let him go.”

“We have a team. If we have to add one, even at 30 [million] we can do it, if not we can rely on what we have.”

haha, as if we were in for Villa… as if we’d buy a player fore 30mill!

Good to know the cash is there
