Denilson could win player of the year / Arsenal, lucky to finish 7th

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Ok, so a bit of a silly headline there, but I think it’s fair to say, there were a lot of silly comments on the blog yesterday.

Geoff and I decided to clear the spam list out the other day and give certain folk another chance to post on the site. Some have come back and played ball, sadly, it seems others still haven’t learnt to behave.

Both sections on the positive/negative side are as bad as each other. We have a poor result and the positives come on the site prepared to say anything in defense of the team even if they don’t believe it, the negative come on the site armed with statements akin to a relegation dog fight.

I can accept difference of opinion, but when I look back and see childish sniping and bitching, it makes me a little sad. Even more disrespectful is when people start abusing the authors. Geoff and I don’t give a s**t about peoples interpretation of the Magna Carta because our own version of that document is engraved here. Respect it, or blog elsewhere.

May I just remind everyone, the success of the Le Grove comments section is down to you lot treating each other with deserved respect. Don’t lower yourself to the crap I read on other people’s websites, you’re better than that.

I’m not angry guys, just disappointed… let’s make amends today.

In other news, Alex Song’s Cameroon side were unable to beat the might of Egypt, so he’ll be on a jet plane, I’m not sure when he’ll be back again… I’ve heard for United. If some of you are celebrating Song’s return because you think that’s the end of Denilson’s first run, may I just laugh in your face and point my finger at you… that’ll never happen. Now Senderos has gone, Denilson has been promoted to love child number one. He’s here to stay people! I’m so glad I don’t have to listen to people telling me about how good Song was in the ACN…

It has all gone quiet on the transfer front. Goonertalk reported the news that Loic Remy could be on his way out of Nice after fans were so disgusted with his performance, they queued up outside the ground to spit at him and abuse him. An £11mill move has been suggested. Now, not one to put a dampener on a transfer rumour… but… if he’s not good enough for Nice fans, I’ll be damned if he’s good enough for Arsenal!

Wenger has been justifying his weak FA Cup team on the propaganda tv. He reckons the Frenchman has been on the verge of injury all season. Arsene, which of our players hasn’t been in that situation all season? Kind of like the 15 players we have on the verge of greatness! Jokes aside, Willy G has put in a sterling run this year, if wrapping him up in cotton wool keeps him fit, I’ll post my Tesco’s club card points to Arsenal to help with the cost of bulk buying the white stuff.

Finally today… the news you’ve all been waiting for… yep, you guessed it… we’ve been treated to the news of a young player signing on for 10 years. Yesterday was the turn of Vito Mannone.

A player we all know wont make it at Arsenal has been given a new long term contract! Great business Arsenal, I’m so excited. Vito must be chuffed knowing he has to displace Almunia, Fabianski and Chesney! I’ve got faith Vito, I’ve got faith!

Am I the only one who has noticed we seem to save these announcements for the days after poor results?

Just before I go, I’ve been working with a t-shirt designer on some designs of the hand painted variety. I’ll hopefully be able to showcase them later in the week! I’m looking forward to showing you!

Have a great day Grovers, keep it friendly in the comments section… Jesus would have wanted it that way.

Pedro

    Paow! Paaooww!! Paaaooowww!!!

In the battle between an old lap-top bequeathed to me by my great great great grand-dad vrs ultra modern gadgets et all.

  2. zorr0

Read the post??? Is that part of the rules, Damn, never knew that! ;-)

Arseblog raised a good point about Traore’s defending for the 3rd goal. Now is it piss poor or is he hoping the guy is going to run offside? I vote piss poor, he should have stayed with him and got a block in on the cross.

  3. gnarleygeorge9

Le Grove T Shirts, looking forward to seeing the proto types Pedro. As they say in Arabia, I buy, I buy.

If we have a poor result against Villa then I’ll be :( , but until then I’m feeling good about this year. But some purchases before Feb would make me extra :D

  4. dennisdamenace

Pedro – For the record, I refrained from yesterday’s angst fest, because, and I think you know, that Jesus wants me for a sunbeam 8)

  5. zorr0

Pedro, understand what you are saying about the comments, but the more rational ones from both sides of the fence are what makes this the best blog. I am guilty of getting overheated sometimes, but that is the internet for you. If we were mates in the pub we would have a beer and a laugh, but here, because we don’t really know each other it can get OTT. I do reserve the right to defend myself against other’s insults mind!

One thing; if Fab, Song, Diaby and Denilson were all fit, Denilson would not start!

Senderos = love child #1. Blimey, I hate to see what AW would have done to him if he did not like him then!

  6. Duvee

If I was to go on paddypower now, what would you say the odds are of wenger signing a player(not a child) before the end of the window??

  7. Galviniho

I never thought I’d say this but thank god Eboue is back as Theo is having a stinker at the mo.

Lets hope Bendnter, Nasri and Diaby are back tomorrow.

  8. gnarleygeorge9

I’m Sorta with DDM. I refrained from the slag fest coz I am Jesus’s sunbeam. But you are welcome to take my place.

  9. dennisdamenace

bnsb – I saw that comment on ANR, strange! Foes that plank really think under the current regime that AW is sackable??

  10. Mark C

Hunterlaar rumours – anyone interested in him?
He could do a good job for us – but he wont be first choice if all fit.

I think the cup game showed we are very short in defensive back up.

  11. zak

If Gallas has been wrapping himself in cotton wool all season just to avoid injury why, when Wenger knew he would’nt play senderos and Djourou was injured, did he not buy a CB when he had the chance in the summer?

  12. Galviniho

What puzzles me is Mr Palmer says Stilyian Petrov does nothing, clearly he does not watch football. I’d have Petrov in over Denilson anyday, he is solid and runs his nuts off.

  13. Duvee

Bischoff WAS talented at the time!! He’s now playing in the portugese vauxhall conference last I heard with a persistent groin strain. Oh well!

  14. dennisdamenace

gnarley you old codger, not satisfied with stealing my thundrer on the Chamon/Chamone front, you now try to best me on the Sunbeam from……..swine!

  15. gnarleygeorge9

Arrhh there you go Sabeel you’ve already corrected yourself. You are right, we should all be good chums.

  16. Duvee

Pedro was giving out about the abusive blogging yesterday but he really should be complaining about the atrocious spelling about the place!!

  17. Ali Saljuk

Arsenal’s midfield has three spots :

The Defensive shield infront of the back 4

The Standard Midfield player , defending and attacking in equal amounts

    The Cesc Fabregas Position

Now Cesc can play in all three , he can play in the front three as well , he is that good.

Ramsey has shown he can play in all three but the front two positions are his major areas.

Diaby excels in the top two slots and atleast has the physical presence ( own goals not counting :P ) to play in the holding role.

Song can play in the holding role.

Nasri and Rosicky can play in the Cesc role and Eastmond is a backup to Song.

Now we come to the enigma. Danielson ( he cant be brazilian ) is terrible in the holding role and hopeless in the frontmost position. He marginally does well in the middle position but only when the other two carry him through the game.

At this moment of time Ramsey cant mature soon enough , i think Ramsey and Merida havent played alot with Cesc in the lineup and they both will develope nicely if they do play with him just as he did with Edu and Vieira.

We should grab hold of Merida , atleast he looks a decent prospect compared to Vela who has been hopeless recently.

HARRY REDKNAPP has hit out at the Premier League whingers and revealed a fellow boss was suffering with “half-a-dozen s****” in his dressing room.
The Spurs manager is fed up with pampered prima donnas who expect to walk into the team without putting in the effort.

And he says a few more players should take a leaf out of Robbie Keane’s book instead of demanding a transfer the minute they are left out of the side.

    Who’s that FELLOW BOSS?

  19. KM

glad that Song is back…..however he won’t play on wednesday so therefore DEnilson will and even i’v gotto admit that the Brazilian is not cut out to play as DM. he needs to play with a DM, not as the DM. if i was the manager i would’v bought a tough tackling motherfukker of a DM to rotate/support SONG, however with Wenger i can only hope that he gives Eastmond as a sub in the 75th min.

when are Diaby & Nasri back?

    Diaby > Denilson

    Nasri > Walcott

  20. didee

Hi Grovers, am pretty happy Song Billong is back where he belongs, plus Pedro I dont agree with you on our Italian Mob Boss, he has the goalkeeping record among our keepers this season and i think he will definitely make it

    Improve the world:Rethink,Redesign and Rebuild

thats the world economic forum theme this yr.

I like it,and know a football club that can use that line of thinking.THE ARSENAL.

  22. cashmoe

Y WUD HE PROMOTE DENILSON ? OVER DIABY ?? YH ITS TRUE I DIDNT EXACTLY LIKE HIM BUT DEN HE IS OVERWHELMINGLY BETTER DAN DENILSON !

  23. Duke

Sabeel, yeah mate, I joined in with some funny remarks to try to defuse the situation, but I guess my Jack Bauer skills are not up to notch, getting older and a bit rusty, but lets see, I am going undercover with the Russians and might just shoot people in their knee caps if they don’t tell me what I need to know.

  24. Jay20h

Great how we can re-new younsters contracts (Some that will never make it in the Premier league, let alone Arsenal) but cant see the glaring frailties within the squad. No signing this january then.

Denilson is just never DMF. Not big or strong enough. He has no pace so tracking a run is never going to happen (Cant catch sidebe WITH the ball!) And he cant tackle!!

  25. Arse&Nose

    We missed Song badly.

Its hard to imagine that this time last year we were slagging him off, and now our team doesnt look as solid without him!

  26. KM

    Didee

    the problem with Vito:

gr8 stopper & reflexes but he’s a spiller….he doesnt get rid of the danger. i’m also not sure on Fabianski…. why Wenger didnt buy Shay Given for £8m is beyond me!!!!

    Sabeel

yep i prefer Nadal to Murray.

in football terms Nadal is Brazil/Spain while Murray is England/Germany ;)

  27. Duke

arsenal4ever, nice that you read the post and keeping with the theme of being polite and non-offensive. Good job mate.

Seriously how old are those people? Why aren’t they in school?

  28. Geoff

Great Post Pedro, good morning all!

Denilson has gone backwards, it’s time we got rid of him, start the villa game with Galas and Campbell and let Vermaelen lose in the DM role, I bet he’d be a revelation.

As for Wenger’s lame injury excuses, that’s what a transfer budget’s for.

  29. frichie79

Werent we all jizzing in our pants when Mannone had a run of games, and put in a string of good performances??? Seriously. He has great potential, but the problem i see with the GK situation is…

Keepers always look great depending on where they playing, ie lower leagues, relegation fights etc, only mature keepers can really do the business at the very Top…but how does a young keeper mature if all they doing is training. Eg fabianski, we all can see he can BECOME a great keeper, but if he only gets cup games (which are now fucked) how is he going to mature to take over from Almunia this season.

Solution, send the young keepers all on season long loans, get a top quality keeper in, and Almunia goes to number 2.

  30. charybdis1966

Morning all – just about recovered from the depression of Sunday, what a come down from Wednesday night !
Are we all just about resigned to no new players coming in by next Tuesday or is there any hope?

For the Mankskummers game how about getting someone to manmark the Shrek? I reckon you stop him, you stop the manks, plus his brittle temperament – and hopefully a hostile atmosphere just like against last Wednesday – may result in the cunt getting frustrated and sent off.

That would really piss of Myles palmer – his number one admirer.

  31. Arse&Nose

If people are going to cut some slack for walcott returning from injury, shouldnt we cut some slack for denilson returning from a back injury?? The man scored vs Stoke, he was hardly as bad as Walcott&Vela

  32. Duke

KM, no not at all, why would you want to read people offending each other and getting out of hand, I even stopped reading yesterday, so I don’t see a reason you going back and reading all that bullshit.

  33. Arse&Nose

chary-shrek doesn’t get sent off in the premiership, its just not allowed. Just like Shearer got away with so much shit, englands golden boy plays by a different set of rules.

  34. sarge

GK’s are definitely a Wenger blind spot. I don’t rate any of our keepers. They don’t communicate, they don’t dominate and are not consistent enough in doing the basics properly. You don’t know what type of performance you’re gonna get each game and that’s scary!

  35. didee

    KM,

I agree he is a gr8 spiller but i trust he’ll learn if given some run of games, am not saying he is faultless just not agreeing it was a wrong move to extend his contract, i believe he’ll become a GiGi Buffon. yeah, missing out on players like Given, Cana, Fellani, Cristiano, Ronaldinho and Messi when they were cheap reallly sucks

  36. edatom

    bnsb Says:

HARRY REDKNAPP has hit out at the Premier League whingers and revealed a fellow boss was suffering with “half-a-dozen s****” in his dressing room.

    My guess is Sam Allardyce…..

  37. joey9

Right now, i would take huntelaar. He has van nistelrooy like qualities. Good finisher, can head, is stronger than arsha, ed, walcott and vela combined. His link up play is decent. Not too fast, but he has to be faster than ed. He’s also an out and out CF, so wenger may be able to resist the temptation to play him in CM, RB, or WF. With all the chances arsenal creates, he would score hattricks! I mean we managed 2 make Adewank look like a decent finisher with his goal return that one season.

  38. sarge

Chary – On Sunday we need to dominate possession in midfield and cut out the balls into the channels (that’s where the plastic bin dipper likes to operate). Do that and the game is there for the taking.

  39. Big Dave

As fans do we have to accept that we can’t compete on 3 fronts come this time of the year ? as our squad is not big enough to go for the

    PL

    CL

    FA CUP

We threw the cup 2 yr ago against man u, now either it is the injury we keep getting or something else.

Invest in this squad, why play players out of their position, don’t make sense.

Arsenal fc should be able to go for all 3 competion’s

  40. Arsenal Tom

we suffered with the FA cup draw, if you look at the chavs, every year they seem to get a real piss easy route to the quarters before they play anyone.

only wenger can be held accountable for the squad and team but getting 2 PL teams away in 2 games is bad luck

  41. charybdis1966

A & N – that does seem to be true, but I think it applies for any mank who plays for England – remember the FA Cup game against Leeds where Wes Brown committed yellow card foul after yellow card foul subsequent to his first and yet he stayed on.

What did the fucker have to do to get sent off? Grapple Beckford to the floor with a half nelson ad head lock ?

Still, if we give Shrek as much a rough ride as we did to Jaskalaainen it may wind him up as I believe that weakness in his game should be exploited.

Unfortunately that’s probably not in Wengers style – a more pragmatic manager would probably consider man marking the Shrek though.

The Salford Bankrupts are now truly a one man team.

  42. charybdis1966

Yeah Sarge, as long as we keep Denilson well away from the pitch and have our first choice defence playing we shouldn’t be exposed from the wide positions the way we were by the Ball wipers.

  43. Arse&Nose

    chary, your right.
Rooney is manures main weapon but also their biggest weakness, he can be got at.

This is why its important to have Song back, no other midfielder in our squad can rough up players.

  44. Geoff

Irish most people think it’s heresy to break the centre back up, but I think it could be the answer, we may get more solid at the back as well.

  45. charybdis1966

I tell you what A & N, if we had someone like Vivas he’d stick in a few snide late tackles that would, if sly enough to go unnoticed, wind him up and get him sent off, with any luck.

Of course the crowd at the Grove have to make it a pit of hatred and bile directed at ole 65% proof noses miserable rabble of cunts.

  46. Irishgunner

Geoff – Would you play Song and Vermaelen?

    I.E. Song, Vermaelen and Fabregas

Or would it be Vermaelen, Fabregas, Rosicky/Ramsey?

  47. Arsenal Tom

    irish… silly me!! lol

rosicky and nasri should all play of denilson. now theo’s back hopefully it should start happening if diaby/fab is injured

  48. Pedro

    Ade, Chelsea’s game in hand?

I don’t think it works like that… I don’t think we can technically be top of the league. You have to have enough points to go top.

As for your Stoke statement, have a bit of ambition… you’re making excuses.

  49. Geoff

Irish I would play Vermaelen, Cesc and Rosicky/Diaby/Nasri then use Song and Vermaelen as competition and back up and rest.

  50. sarge

Chary – That’s where Grimandi used to be effective. Slight niggly digs and could give as good as he got. We miss that type of back-up player. No great shakes but a good spoiler.

  51. nishanth

Vermaelen could be a really good DM.But i don’t want to break up the Gallas and vermaelen CB pairing. They are excellent together.I know we have conceded a lot of goals but i think we could have avoided that if we had a better keeper.Song should continue as our DM

  52. Johan

    Good morning all!

    Pedro

What makes you think Crabman Denilson will keep on playing? You can’t mean in the holding role now do you?

    Ali

Nice comment about the midfield, I totally agree..

Finally, I spoke with ET a bit about it yesterday, what do you think of Sol on the starting lineup versus the Chavs to take care of Drogba?

  53. KM

i agree with the call to get Huntelaar in on a 6months loan…he’d be happy because he needs gametime to get into the Dutch team and imo Bendtner is not ready to lead us to the title yet. however i dnt think anything is going to happen in the transfer market. if wenger wanted to do something he would’v already done it…i just get a feeling that we’r going to do jackshit in the window.

    Didee

although i like Mannone too as a shot-stopper, we cant afford to let him ‘learn’ in the 1st team. in the carling cup or FA Cup fair enough, but not in the league and Champions league. We’d be shooting ourself in the foot.

i also believe that Vela could do with a loan nxt year . he needs more regular games than what he’s getting atm at Arsenal. maybe a 6 months loan nxt season if we have Rvp, Eddy, Bendtner & Arshavin fit nxt September.

  54. charybdis1966

Oh yes Sarge, Grimey was good at that too – again we go back to one of the flaws in the balance of Wenger teams, too many creative players and not enough destructive ones.
You’d a thought someone like Wenger who’d lived in Japan would understand the concept of Yin and yang.

  55. Johan

Pedro, now that sounds a bit bitter coming from you! But somehow I think you’re right. I bet Eastmond, Denilson and Cesc in the midfield.

  56. RockyPires

Debilson will play against Villa but surely against MAn U it will be
    __Cesc__Song__Ramsey

If Ramsey s starts V Utd I back him to score and then we will see Neville give him the finger for not joining them.

Denilson should be ok aginst Villa as they are not very aggressive in midfield and not very powerful either. I see midfield being a technical battle and us coming out on top.
    _Young__Petrov__Milner__Downing
is not a midfield to be afraid of and with Cesc__Deni_Ramsey we should have too much for them.

Villas main dangers are Abongalhore’s pace and Dunne/Collins from set pieces.
WE should cope with Young and Abgon pace with Gallas-Verm and Clichy . Diaby will be missed for setpiece defence as will Campbell but we must try and limit their effectivness.

I think we will beat Villa but its ours to loose by lack of intensity.

  57. B.B.K.

Have a great day Grovers, keep it friendly in the comments section… Jesus would have wanted it that way.So would arseneal wenger

  58. Johan

    KM & AT

I don’t think Diaby will be back for the Manc game either tbh. Considering how our injuries have been affecting the squad I’d say a couple of weeks.

  59. gazzap

There is always negativity the day after a defeat. We dont tend to take losing very well. I hope a bit more balance has returned today because its a shame to lose sight of all the good stuff Arsenal have been doing lately.

But my commnets on Denilson still stand, and they were not a reaction to the match. I have consistently said he is not good enough for Arsenal for around 2 years.

  60. nishanth

    Lineup against villa
    Almunia
    Sagna Gallas Vermaelen Clichy
    Denilson
    Ramsey Cesc
    Arshavin Rosicky
    Eduardo
Unless there are any injuries i am sure this will be the lineup tomorrow

  61. Henry14

    Morning all,

I was one of the ones that got a bit heated yesterday – so apologies for my comments if i offended anyone.

    I think we’ll win tomorrow night – 0 – 3.

We badly miss Song in the middle and although i wasn’t his biggest fan last season – we also miss Diaby big time.

The best line up is playing Nasri or Rosicky with Diaby Song and Fab with Ramsey coming off the Bench or if one of the 3 need a rest.

The midfield is so much more balanced with these players.

Song back for Man U – i personally hope the big man cut’s rooney in half!!!

  62. gazzap

Pedro, whilst its hard to know if Den will get in the side on current form when Song returns, what I do know is that there is absolutely no chance of him being cast aside by Wenger. As you say, he is wenger’s number 1 pet project.
I think wenger can get over his love children – he did with Senderos, but it takes time.

  63. sarge

Denilson reminds of Sunday morning kids football (in a lot of ways in fact). He always gets a game cos he’s the manager’s son even though everybody knows he’s shit.

  64. Henry14

Lucas and Denilson are totally different types of players – i would take lucas as a back up DM over song any day

  65. zak

Geoff why not play a diierent formation ie 5 3 2 Just an idea

    Sagna Campbell Gallas Vermy Clichy

    Rosicky Fab Arshavin

    Bentner Eduardo

Has a good attacking look to it and not a bad defensive one.

  66. KM

my team against Villa would be :

    Back 5

    Eastmond FAB Denilson

    Rosicky Eddy Arshavin

    Subs: Walcott for Rosicky
    Nasri for Eastmond (65th min)
    Bendtner for Eddy
