Wenger absent from Colney and early press conference, does that mean?…

by & filed under Uncategorized.

So Pedro heard from his ‘man-in-the-know’ yesterday that Arsene was not at training and did his press conference early, does that man he was meeting our new star forward, or does that mean he overslept? We can only hope, but who knows eh???

So the Senderos move may not happen, there is no news about young Jack going out on loan and the only transfer crumb out there, I just gave you, still only 12 more days and we can stop all this speculation, he did say yesterday that he can’t believe the injuries we are getting, I can Arsene, we always get them!

Even more reason to get busy then. Still we cannot influence that so I’ll move on. I did notice after watching the mancs lose to the chav mancs last night that they have 4 ex-Arsenal players in their team now, last night we only saw one of them, 48 year old Silvinhio, I did like him, and a lot more than Cashley Cole, he is way past it these days though, and it was sad to see him running out of breath so easily, so I really can’t see the logic to that purchase.

I did say yesterday, if they are so keen to sign all of our players, why on earth did they not buy the Arsenal in the first place, it would have been a lot cheaper!

I was with a Vice President and sponsor of Chavski yesterday, and he told me the EPL had the rights to the perimeter advertising and that is one reason they give so much money to teams, so that answers one of my ‘how can they afford to do it’ questions.

Tonight’s the night then Grovers, tonight we get to go top and show the footballing world we mean business, it’s all pointless if we don’t add to our squad though because we were here last season in terms of promise, and bombed out of two semi finals, yes we have added Vermaelen, but we’ve also lost Ade and Kolo, yes some of the kids have stepped up, but we need more players, the cupboard is bare. Both cupboards before you ask!

I will try and put my team together tonight from who I think is fit, here goes.

Almunia

Sagna Gallas Vermaelen Clichy

Rosicky Cesc Diaby

Walcott Eduardo Arshavin

I think that will be his team, at least I hope so, but he may put Denilson in for Rosicky and Vela on the left with Arshavin on the right for Theo.

That’s my guess, but either team should do it, Rosicky gave us that added bite on Sunday and I think Traore needs a breather.

We need to smash them tonight, I would be disappointed if we only just win, as this is the game that could make the other two wobble, the chavs have had no threat all season and the mancs lost to the chav mancs last night, so with both these teams in our sights, and both these teams to play, I would hope he starts to play the same team if he can, avoid injuries and start to get some consistency.

We were magnificent at the Reebok, play like that at our gaff and we’ll be top of the league, ‘We are top of the league, say we are top of the league’ I haven’t sung that for a few years so let’s hope we can all belt that one out tonight, I’ll be there screaming and being generally silly so let’s all make a noise for all those Grovers that only get it on the wireless set, because we aren’t on the box.

Maybe a cheeeky bid for Steven Ireland? Yes I know he’s butt ugly, but he is a top, top, playmaker.

On a final note, watching the chav mancs last night, it emerged that their manager rates Given as the best in the premier league and in the top five worldwide, and we didn’t think he was better than Almunia??? And before you say he wasn’t on our radar, I have a source that says he thought he was coming and he was gutted when he didn’t, what a shame, he was inspirational last night, and even though he plays for them, I really like him, he’s worth 10 clean sheets a season and 15 points.

Have a great night all, tomorrow we’ll be top of the league!!!

Thanks Sabeel, so many good articles I’ve missed out on, and I shall of course be voting for le-grove for best community.

  4. finestcuts

I’m confident of a win today Sabeel, of course we may be unlucky as can happen in football, but I don’t envisage that so anything other than a win for us would be a massive shock.

  5. stonroy

Yeah I was thinking how fantastic Given was as well. Not grabbing him has to be one of the stupidest things Wenger has ever done.

  6. stonroy

Sabeel I hate to stand in your way there mate but when I clicked on here today there was no comments yet. It’s just that I come here to read the blogs instead of type first.

  7. AngeAusArsenal

Great to be back on LeGrove after having 10 days on beautiful Hamilton Island.
Cant wait for tomorrow and at the very civilised Sydney time of 6.45 am.

  8. finestcuts

Yes good post, if Arsene doesn’t know of a good forward, who does? By beating Bolton tonight we’ll be in an excellent position to lure top quality players. “Would you like to join an EPL club in with a realistic chance of winning the title?”

    Finest

    yes u r right,

I like the team put out by geoff,i felt Diaby there showed that he has matured enough to “not go on attack’ all the time,

in the final 20 mins at reebok,we saw that diaby didnt look out of place, when merida came on for eastmond..

i hope Diaby keeps that discipline in protecting the back 4,if we set out the team that geoff has put in today…

  10. Duke

I like the team, but I would put Fabianski in, as would 99% of all Gooners I suppose.
I noticed Diaby held on to the ball for too long when he went back, he learned to let go of it quicker, and when he is higher up the pitch it’s okay, but on Sunday he almost lost the ball right in front of the defence. He could do one stupid mistake like that and cost us.
I think he will play the same team as last time, only Denilson in for Eastmond.

  11. finestcuts

I love the team above, full of attacking flair but…..the unsung Denilson needs a spot so he can develop as well.

  12. camdengoon

Wenger’s press conference consisted of him stating clearly that we are no closer to a signing and having Walcott back and Bendtner back soon will be like new signings. I don’t expect anyone coming in- hopefully it won’t show at the end of the season as what will Wenger’s answer be then? I personally think we need a defensive midfielder as much as a forward as well.

  13. Duke

Sabeel, I know and if you enjoy it, then it’s your right, I don’t get my panties twisted because of it, specially with a regular like yourself.

It’s like they say, “Tits and computer games are both intended for children, but grown ass men have much more fun with them.”

  14. stonroy

That look that Willy gave Manuel on the weekend could stop a bull in its tracks. Wenger must know what’s going on. Is it that he trusts Manuel or he doesn’t trust Fabianski?

  15. arsenal4ever

Wenger is so desperate to scupper any deal for Sergio Canales. I am sure if he wants go abroad we are the likely destination.

  16. stonroy

I saw that Choy but then I got a little nervy when he says at the end, some people would never understand it if I leave…I was like hold on, stick with that I’m proud to be an Arsenal player bit and forget this leaving stuff. Just me reading into it too much.

  17. Gunner UNIT

I’ve been around just reading the blogs , no time to comment – thanks anyway.
@ stoneroy – whether you post first or not you aren’t gonna beat SIG or TAIG

GUUYS!!!!!!!! WHEN IS “SONG” GOING TO BE BACK..

    ———–Almunia

    Sagna Gallas Vermaelen Clichy

    —–Denilson Cesc Diaby

    –Rosicky Eduardo VELA

    Subs– Arshavin,(He should rest)
    Walcott(Crappy !! shuldn`t start at all)
who else is thet every1 is injured!!!

  19. NigerianGunner

Been a while Grovers! we’ve had a good run and we need an even better one over the next few games for the season not to collapse. I mean what’s the point of doing so well up until now to be dumped out of various competitions and lose sight of the mancs and chavs.

Our transfer activity isnt exactly encouraging and yeah Arshavin was right when he said we’ll need a miracle to win a trophy this season

  20. Sabeel Indian Gunner

    Sam

No Sam,it isnt there, only pool match is on espn, and on star they have the australian open,

but since pool match was abruptly decided to be broadcasted,i do have 2% hope that ours may come on star sports.

espn by the way are Liverpool ass lickers, buggers…

  21. OM

I heard that Wenger was seen on a quick trip to Paris this week? Adding a personal touch to a bit of business or seeing a friend for lunch!?!?!?

  22. Ken

I said two years ago on this site that we were completely stupid to not get Given. I was dismissed by most here. Imagine what we would be like with him now.

  23. Jaguar

Even after a string of great performances,we have people like A who come here and say that Clownmunia is better than Shay Given. What a joke!

  24. Gunner UNIT

Yep he is long overdue a goal or two.
also about the “tuf” games ahead i’m gona put my money on us to win all and i don’t give a fuck wat anyone says!
15 points for the next five games!!

  25. stonroy

Ken I was the very first person on this site to say that Almunia wasn’t a world class Keeper, it was a couple of years ago and I got a shellacking. My simple answer was, he saves the ones you expect him to save but never the ones you hope he would save…Err I was a little wrong there, now if he saves anything it’s a bloody miracle.

  26. Duke

Sabeel, hahah, Wenger is just very very stubborn, I don’t know how he could drop Jens, but is not dropping Almunia, I guess because Jens was getting on a bit with age, but he still expects Almunia to be number 1 for 3-4 seasons to save money. That is why he won’t drop him. He knows if he does, that is the end of him, and if Fabianski doesn’t work, he will need to spend.

  27. rob green

Ha ha ha Almunia better than shay given. That’s the funniest thing I have ever heard. Surely nobody thinks that?

  28. stonroy

Duke I think he missed Cesc. Brilliant players play well with other brilliant players. Now that Cesc is back I reckon will see him hit home a few.

  29. patthegooner

Sad and Very Predictable, Groundhog Transfer Window is upon us

    http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard-sport/football/article-23797252-returning-stars-will-be-like-new-signings-says-arsene-wenger.do

We have so many players out that our talks are more focused on ‘when is he back, when he is back’ and it looks like any player we can get back is like a transfer because we have not seen some players this season – like Walcott, like Bendtner.

Jesus Fucking Christ. So I guess Theo is like a new signing evey month, he is out injured that often. Does he honestly think that Theo will now go fit till the end of the season? and Bendtner too?

Come on Arsene dont miss a fantastic opportunity here.

  30. Sabeel Indian Gunner

    Duke

if it is abt money,i hope wenger sells almunia “ASAP” in summer, and get better keeper with that money + somemore..

becos at this rate in 2-3 seasons,we wont get any money for what almunia will fetch in the summer

its another issue,if almunia would attract any club

  31. stonroy

Rob I can’t prove it mate. It was more a sense of frustration seeing it all come to realization than a challenge to who said it first…It’s all good.

  32. Le Foxe

Granted Ireland is a good player but do we really need another playmaker?! What we want is someone to finish off the moves for us…just an out and out goalscorer that hopefully Eduardo will become when his confidence grows even further….hopefully!

  33. Sabeel Indian Gunner

    yes Suga

we were discussing that at start of transfer window, remember…

    and it is happening again

Bottomline,we have got anyone yet in jan transfer window who will help us “significantly”

campbell is just gap filler, thats is all but no Serious signing yet..

  34. Sig

that was one of my favourite chants at the cup final against Liverpool a few years back

    “we’ve got Silvinhio, you’ve got our stereo…”

nice to see him again last night

  35. Jaguar

Do you really admire it when he spews out the same old crap of new signings,Pedro? Why the fuck cant he shut up about it!

  36. patthegooner

    SUGA3

To be honest I am numb to it now. I said at the start of the month I was not going to get caught up in transfer frenzies as it always ends in dissapointment. So have taken the mindset that we are singing nobody (Sol does not count) and anything else is a bonus.

They always follow the same line

    1) Wenger publically recognises where he is short

    2) Wenger says he is looking but ‘honestly’ is not close to signing anyone. And he will only add if he finds somebody better

    3) Propaganda.com post stories about how great up and coming player is and how round peg can play in square pegs position

    4) Injured player A and B are like new signings

    5) September 1st and Feb 1st. I have belief and faith in this team, Average fringe player gets new long term contract.

  37. Sabeel Indian Gunner

    Jaguar

i know it is frustrating, but hopefully we wont be 3rd this season, becos unlike other season we used to see the same wenger chant that ‘returning player are like new signings’,this year, the kids are one more experienced..

hence solely on the fact that we have one moe year experience in the squad,we may hope a bit more i feel..

as transfer is not in our hands, only hope and support is..

  38. Duke

Sabeel, well you see Wenger doesn’t really care about the selling money, you can see this by how many players he lets go for free or for much less money that they are worth, because they asked him to leave.
Campbell, Henry, Viera, Edu… I can go on and on.
He just does not want to spend, so he will play Almunia until he is way to old.

  39. Dublin Gunner!!!!

Great post geoff!! I can honestly say! This is no lie!! I met Shay given in portmarnock (where the Irish team train) an just before he signed for city I asked him was he going to arsenal, he smiled an said I wish!! I do rate him as one off the best, such a shame wenger didn’t go for him! We would be at least 5/6 clear off top, and geoff I think I was the one who said about Stephen Ireland?!?! :)

  40. Big Dave

So when RVP comes back he will also be a like a new signing. !!

Even that cunt Brazil said that we are only 2 good signigs away from winning the league

  41. gnarleygeorge9

    Evening all

Geoff you touched on the northern chavs earlier. How good a form is Tevez in going to the World Cup ;) I reckon the Argies will win The World Cup 2010.

    Now for the main course.

For The Arsenal to go Top of The League would stick it fair & square up the knockers of England’s finest Club. Going into February @ the pinacle would be devestating for the rest of the comp, not to mention the English press, etc.

  42. JoeBaker64

You can add number 6 to that, Pat. Wenger – ” We were a little bit short towards the end, I recognise this and plan 2 or 3 super, super signings”. Sure, Wenger, but only after the season ticket money has been trousered and you can once again tell us you don’t want to kill Denilson et al.

  43. Big Dave

Ivan is the one who sees the players and agents.
the reason AW was not their is because he had a stomach ache and the runs so he had to dash off early

  44. JoeBaker64

Snow watch. Snow is moving east (towards London) but may not settle. Heavy rain is forcast for later, so it looks like I am going to get wet again on my way to the game.(4th time this season).

  45. Duke

Sabeel, I am terrified myself, but he can’t get even worse can he? And if he hasn’t been dropped yet, then we can’t expect for him to be dropped later.

  46. Gunners The Stunners

    GG9,

I agree with you on the English press thing. I believe you meant English media not only press. But that’s true, it would be devastating for the media and all those pundits who wrote us off to finish even 4th at the start of season. Also, it’s funny how all of them pundits have now started praising our style of play, our talented young players who are scoring goals for fun.

I mentioned this on Monday here that the only reason Sky showed our game against Bolton on Sunday was that they were hoping us to crumble and lose there so that their pundits could go on & on about us not having enough spine to compete against Mancs & the Chavs. I can’t wait for tonight’s game when we get to go top and I’d wanna see what those pundits would have to say after tonight.

  47. Sabeel Indian Gunner

    Pedro

its been sad to see arshavin underperform becos we all know he is playing through the foot injury as wenger is saying,

such is the injury crisis, that we do have buffer to let arshavin recover so that he can play at his peak..really sad..

  48. gnarleygeorge9

    GTS

Well you don’t have long to wait. As for me, like AAA said, 6.45am tomorrow morning on Fox so I’ve gotta sleep to go yet.

I will be listening out for the “We are Top the League, say we are Top of The League” Bring it on all who are going

  49. Gun Show

First time post, always read the comments though!

Geoff, top post. I’m keeping all my digits crossed and hoping the main man is in talks to bring in a super star today!

I think we’re going to win tonight, but don’t expect it to be easy. Sabeel, no offence, but you should slow down with the posting.

    Peace out Gooners.

  50. GMR

Why does everyone rate Given?? I don’t think he’s particularly good, I’m not pretending Almunia is better because he’s pretty useless & I said on here before the season even started that I would like to see Szczesny in goal, the guy is fantastic & proving that at Brentford.

The fact is though that nobody can say we’d be in a better position if Given was in goal, after all Man City have conceded more goals than us & Given hasn’t prevented teams like Burnley getting a draw at the council house.

We need a new keeper, but lets make it someone world class, not just another average one.

  51. Arsenal Tom

wenger wants him to come good so he doesn’t have to buy someone else.

plus he probably thinks if he drops him he’ll have less chance of selling him in the summer meaning less money to put in the bank if he does ship him out

  52. Pedro

    GMR, I’d rather recruit internally.

Fabianski is going to be a world beater and if Chezzers is any good, why not blood him? Cech and Iker played from a young age.

  53. GMR

Pedro – thats what I said, I would like to see Szczesny play. I don’t think Fabianski is good enough from what I’ve seen, he is too much of a headless chicken. However, if Wenger won’t try Szczesny then buy a world class keeper. The last truly world class keeper we had was Seaman & he made a massive difference. Lehmann was better than others we’ve had but still too rash at times & did cost us goals.

  54. Pedro

GMR, I think that’s just youth from Fab. That wont take long to get out of his system.

I agree we need a change. I’m worried about the upcoming games and whether the pressure will get to Almunia.

  55. embryo

Why do people keep banging on about us needing a DM? Song has that position covered, who would we sign that would be happy to sit on the bench waiting for Song to get injured.

looking at AW comments, no way will we be signing anyone, real shame. let’s just hope B52 comes back full of fight and does the job, cos Walcott will be injured after 30 mins tonight if he starts.

  56. Cescs_MyBoy

    Geoff –

good post – but I would rather not over stretch some players and win, then smash them and get an injury or two. 3 points is the most important thing.

    Also

We didn’t have the money for Given. Arshavin personally had to finance part of the deal to Arsenal at the 11th hour.

Dont think we had the £6 million – for the transfer fee – and the further £5-7 million of signing on costs / fees lying around.

  57. GMR

Sabeel – I don’t think Given is better, although he’s no worse either. At the beginning of this season there were a lot of people on here still complaining about our defence, yet we’ve conceded less than city. They have Lescott & I lost count of the people saying we should’ve signed him. We also leave ourselves open to counter attack far more than City do, so really there goals against column should be better than ours. If Given is as good as he’s being made out to be why have City lost so many points to poor teams??

All I’m saying is that I don’t want either keeper, either play someone with real potential or buy a truly world class one.

  58. Ken

Sorry GMR but to even compare Almunia to Given is an insult to Given. And to call him average is an even bigger insult. When I watch Almunia I end up thinking how did he possibly fuck that up but when I watch Given it’s usually how did he keep that out..

  59. GMR

Pedro – I think Fab is better than Almunia. He has this bad habbit though of running like a steam train to the edge of the box when he’s about to throw the ball out & he’s gone over the line several times without being pulled up, the trouble is, that luck won’t last. I’d feel much more comfortable if he curbed himself from doing that.

  60. GMR

Ken – thats your opinion, I don’t agree with it. It’s easy to blame the players around him, but it’s hardly like Given has won anything. I remember Ben Foster looking like a world beater at Watford, because he had shot after shot to save, put him in a team that doesn’t have that & he looks awful.
