The destruction of the Premiership and why you should be worried.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Times are changing Grovers. The tectonics of the footballing world are shifting and after the impending earthquake has struck and the dust has settled, a New World Order in football will arise. There’s nothing you can do about it either. It’s been craftily engineered through bad management of finances, greed and a little something the elites like to call ‘debt leverage’.

The next 3 years are going to see the emergence of new super powers in the Premier League and sadly, the decline of current mega clubs. This is a fact that many of us have been in denial about for a long time, but Leeds MK II on a slightly less severe level is about to happen and I fear the impact it’s going to have on the Premier League.

I’ve been reading up over the last few days into the whole Manchester United debacle and it is apparent that they’re in a world of trouble. The Glazer’s have massively underestimated the volatility of the financial market and they’ve found themselves in a financial hole George Soros couldn’t dig them out of. They are currently looking to issue £500million worth of bonds which will help steady the ship, not get them out of trouble. They’re also looking at the possibility of selling their stadium.

Reading through the list of threats they put forward in their proposal, you have to say investing in their bonds would be a pretty bad business move. Manchester United as it stands are going to have an extremely tough 5 years ahead if the predictions of doom come true. The Glazers have taken a club so profitable they struggled to spend the money, to a club so debt ravaged, they struggle to find the money to cover interest payments.

Also on the financial doom hitlist are Liverpool. A club that hasn’t ever hit the financial highs of Manchester United, but a club that made solid profits and had a fan base that was the envy of the Premiership considering their lack of success over the past few years. Well, they are in a similar situation. Their owners are finding it difficult to handle the debt mountain they’ve accrued and with Liverpool looking increasingly like they are going to drop out of the top 4, things could really be heading south for the scousers. They are so strapped at the moment, sacking their failing manager is almost an impossibility.

So, that leaves Arsenal. Through superb foresight, our board and management team have built us a shiny new stadium which generates money like a Columbian drug gang, we’ve restructured our debt so it is manageable and we’ve found stability on the pitch which means it is unlikely we’re going to drop out of the top 4 this season. Off the pitch, we’re 10 years ahead of everyone else. On the pitch, we’re still in the hunt for the Premiership and with the right moves this transfer window, we could have our break through year.

So with all this doom elsewhere in the Premiership, Manchester City, Aston Villa and Spurs could loosen the strangle hold on the top 4. We could see a new order in the Premiership. The reason it makes me a little bit sick is that none of those clubs are going to gain that place organically. They’ve all had massive input from sugar daddies. Is having a Manchester City in the top 4 good for the Premiership globally? Is it good to have a weak Manchester United or a mid table Liverpool? Doesn’t it weaken the overall brand of the competition if our big players are no where to be seen?

It’s like a blockbuster in the cinema. You’d much rather pay your money to see a legend of the screen play the lead role rather than some unknown. I think it’s the same for the Premiership. Who wants to tune in to see a top of the table clash between Spurs and Manchester City? If you think I’m wrong here, imagine the same was happening in Spain and Getafe and Athletico Madrid became the dominant players with Barca and Madrid dropping away? Would it make the league more watchable? Not in my opinion. People who say the Premier League is boring right now generally support weaker teams and their ill-informed comments aren’t back by TV figures. The Premier League allowing big clubs to be overrun by unscrupulous owners is tearing the league apart.

David Gold said this recently,

“We`ve looked at 20 clubs since we left Birmingham and the state of the finance of football is frightening.”

“Many clubs have pre-sold their Premier League income, television money. They`ve borrowed against one, two and three year season ticket money. They`ve borrowed against everything.”

“I think it`s probably odds-on one Premier League club could go.”

That is a frightening situation. I read that Alan Sugar once said,

‘It doesn’t matter if the TV money is £3million or £38million, we’ll still end up p*ssing it up the wall on wages.’

If that was the case, surely the Premier League has a duty to make sure clubs only spend what they earned back when the issue was highlighted? Surely it didn’t need a man as backward as Platini to look like the saviour in this situation? I’m just staggered that all these hugely wealthy men who are in the main, self made mult-millionaires, can make such obvious mistakes. It’s a real shame, because if more great clubs hit the wall, we could be looking at a Premier League that is almost unrecognisable within a few years.

My biggest worry is that if the big teams look like they’re being pushed out, will that push us closer to a super league?

Brand Premiership is sick and that’s not good for anyone.

See you in the comments!

    Interesting that Pedro :D

CSKA Moscow winger Milos Krasic has rejected an approach from Roberto Mancini’s Manchester City, saying he only wants to join either Manchester United or Arsenal.

  2. Ja_Gunner

Who is gonna play DM if Denilson is out?

Sendy does not seem to be fit….if he was I would play him alongside Gallas and shift Vermaelen forward….

I dont think we should put Diaby or Ramsey or any youngster there…just my opinion…

    ……………………..Al………………………..
    Sagna………Gallas………….Silvest/Senderos….Traore
    ……………………..Vermaelen…………………..
    …..Fabregas…………………………..Diaby……..
    ..Rosicky/Nasri…………Eddy………………..Arshy…

    Home game 3 days later

    ……………………..Al………………………..
    Sagna………Gallas………….Vermaelen…….Clichy
    ……………………..Denilson…………………..
    …..Fabregas…………………………..Diaby……..
    ..Rosicky/Nasri…………Eddy………………..Arshy…

  3. Ja_Gunner

    FA Cup game

    …………………….Fabianski…………………….
    Coquelin/Gilbert….Sol??……..Silvest………..Traore
    …………………..Eastmond/Senderos………………
    …..Ramsey…………………………..Merida/JET……
    ..Rosicky………………Vela………………Sunu/Watt

I know this team seems weak…..but after this FA Cup game….we play

    Villa away Wednesday
    Manure home Sunday
    Chelsea away Sunday
    Liverpool home Wednesday

We must rest players for that stretch of games…..Wenger is stubborn why doesnt he sign a striker on a short term deal?

Bendy will probably be available for Villa or Manure but he will not be 100% until after that stretch of games is over…we a good striker for this run….and I am not sure Eddy and Arshy can carry all that load by themselves…..

Plus we need to rest Gallas and Vermaelen in that FA cup game so that they will be ready for that gruesome stretch of 4 games….I just dont see which top player we can risk in that FA Cup game….its unfortunate that we drew Stoke..why couldnt we have gotten lower league opposition?

I would not risk Fabregas, Diaby, Gallas , Vermy, Arshy, or Eddy in that FA Cup game….its going to be difficult to get that team right.

I would not play Denilson in that FA cup game either…

We can always have Fabs, Diaby etc on the bench for that game if we need them…

  4. zeus

    @ JA

Both United and Pool are out of the Fa cup. Of course the PL and CL take precedence but we can’t afford to take that competition lightly because we have a VERY GOOD chance of winning it as well.

  5. Ja_Gunner

Zeus…I want to win the FA Cup as well….but looking at the schedule….which of our top players would you risk in the FA cup….knowing that you have

    Villa away Wednesday
    Manure home Sunday
    Chelsea away Sunday
    Liverpool away Wednesday

Its very difficult to risk our injury ravaged squad against Stoke in the FA Cup when we have those games coming up…

I know I certainly would not risk

    1. Fabregas
    2. Diaby
    3. Gallas
    4. Vermaelen
    5. Arshavin
    6. Eddy
    7. Denilson(given his recent injuries)

As I said maybe Bendy will be available for Manure at best..and he wont be up to speed until after that run of games is over….I think we really needed a striker to come in straight away for that run..but Wenger thinks that Eddy and Arshy alone can do it…..I dont think so given the fact that Eddy is not as sharp as he once was…

He should have signed a striker at the start of the window..tha fact that he is signing Sol is good it gives us defensive cover…but other than that is taking a huge risk not bolstering a injury ravaged squad….

  6. El Tel

We need to take the biggest risks in the next 6 matches as this could all go wrong with the chopping and changing which will leave us not only with tension in the reasonable third part of the season but with sod all to play for again.

Always play the strongest side in ALL the matches it breeds consistency and there is continuity.

We have some big players ready to return from injury in the next couple of months who might be needed at the right time for us.

If we play certain Teams in certain games its more likely that we will get unpredictable results.

We must Be Bold and go for It, wouldn’t it be right to say at least we gave it a go if it all goes wrong rather than say well we didn’t try hard enough because the Team was different every time.

Yes we could end up with more injuries but that could happen in any game. There are still some good Teams in the FA cup and I wouldn’t say it was easier because the scummers and Dippers were out.

In fact there are more Teams thinking they have a better chance because of those 2 being knocked out. Some of those left in it like Citeh the Spuds and Villa see this as THE trophy for them which is their goal from the beginning of the season.

  7. ethangunner

well if thats so geoff ,

torres could well be on the market by may , id get cesc dialing his mobile if i was arsene ..
    NOW !

    we’d take him for 15 :) ….

hell we’d even let them have him the rest of the season just so they dont get relegated :)

  8. El Tel

What I was trying to say is this, before the Chavs knocked us out of the Champions League in the QF we were always playing for 3 trophies in the final 10 games of the season, the reason we didn’t win as many trophies as we would have liked was due to fatigue.

I think Wenger started tinkering from that season on trying to keep players fresh for the run in but it has been flawed as the team became inconsistent due to the changes.

We must take a chance and play the strongest Team in all matches and if we are still in all 3 then for me it would be woth it.

If we play a weak Team and lose to Stoke then lose 2 of the difficult matches coming up then we will build up more pressure and end up blowing the lot.

If we are close to the top with 10 League games left then maybe with some of the big players coming back we will have a great chance to finish with something.

  9. El Tel

    Hi Ethan mate.

Would you take Torres now even if he was out for a couple of months?

Does anyone else think the same even though we need someone like him now.

  10. ethangunner

    El Tel

its going to be a real lotto draw this season ..
i spoke with a man U mate today and he said dont worry 2 points off the lead , dont you worry about us …

    WANKER !

then you have the chev’s , its crazy not to get
a few players to over ride this usually flat time for us , it didnt happen last season this time because AA lifted the spirits ..

but i do expect a lull like the season prior to last .
so arsene buy someone and avoid this slump .
    lift the teams spirits

also didnt arsene say some bollocks like

IM GOING TO BUY EARLY !?

did he mean campbell ? or a 17 year old ?

  11. luke

Is a striker or CM/CDM more of a priority? Or is GK the one to fix? Such a weird situation our squad is in right now.

  12. El Tel

You are right Ethan, this time last year though we had your friend Ade there to piss everyone off.

I think the spirit is high at the moment mate and I think Eduardo will start scoring again when the balance of the Team is right.

There are guys on here knocking Eduardo recently but his finishing is sublime.

we need a beast up top though to act as a foil for Arseshaver and Eduardo imo.

  13. ethangunner

    HEY EL TEL !

im sure he would still be sold for 30 +
but it would be nice to dream … :)

but it does raise an interesting debate of who will fall out of the top 4 or change spots , and will the club that loses out down size ?

will they get rid of some top players ?!
would they want to move clubs after not being in the top 4 like most players do once they hit relegation or little success …?

    HLEB :)

well what ever the case arsene should be able to feed on the bones of the team(s) that are in hardship .

mind you so will man shitty .

  14. luke

Eduardos finishing the past month or so has been very poor. I do believe he will start scoring but I think that he is the sort of striker that is great with another great striker, but cant lead the line. I like him either on the left or the right with RVP central but when he has to do more, I feel he cant take the pressure. Hopefully he proves me wrong in the next couple of weeks though and I think he might be able to

  15. El Tel

Luke, a Keeper for me always mate.

Ethan, I hate the Mancscum and the Dippers mate but they are not like Newcastle who always pretended to be a big Club.

Citeh haven’t got the pull yet imo for the very top stars although a greedy cunt will take the dough.

  16. ethangunner

yes well in last outing you could clearly see AA getting double teamed and put under huge physical duress . every time he was close to getting the ball .. they would either cut supply to him or just bully him ..

but weaker teams know now , pressure the front man , and all this possession game is rendered useless if you cant get inside the defense .

  17. El Tel

Luke, Eduardo has hardly had a kick in the past few matches and I agree he needs a buddy to help him but that header at the Shammers was class mate and he actually scored 3 in 2 even if the free kick did take a Lumplard like deflection.

  18. luke

Hes missed some sitters and I think it can hardly be disputed his confidence is a bit low right now. I really hope eddie comes alive again. Eddie hattrick sunday, 3-1 to the arsenal!

  19. El Tel

Ethan, Would you take that unknown African kid and chuck him in for a few matches if we also got Torres even though he would be injured?

I think Wenger would buy Torres for 30 large mate.

  20. Pat

The Arsenal manager, Arsène Wenger, has signed the 17-year-old Bolivian midfield prospect Samuel Galindo, although he will send him straight out on loan to Spain, as he once did with Carlos Vela, in order for him to secure a work permit.

It is likely that Arsenal will have to pay compensation of £500,000 to Galindo’s club, Real America.

“He is a player who has good technique,” said Wenger. “He’s intelligent, 6ft 2in, left-footed and that’s plenty of qualities. He also has good stamina and can give good balls, he has good vision and we like that here.

“It’s true that he was at Everton but he was offered to come to me on trial. I said yes, I liked what I saw and I signed him.”

  21. ethangunner

dudu had a real career ending injury ..

most would be lucky to even return to this level of football .. it must be hard for the lad , but
ive seen this in all sports , someone who has a injury of this magnitude seldom .. SELDOM ever comes back as good as before . be it physical, or mental im uncertain ..but if he is to make a come back he needs to get with the program because things of changed since the ade camper days ..

im not sure he is as dynamic as we 1st thought .

dudu made ade look good during that 19 goal spell in 4 months ! 07/08

  22. luke

still think we need a CDM. THink we need competetion in that spot. THe only thing scarier than Denilson starting, is Denilson having a guaranteed spot. I think a 20-22 year old CDM would not only give us more depth but push Ramsey, Denilson, Diaby to develop more and fight more. ANyone know matuidi well? Will it matter anyways as Wenger doesnt seem to be looking for CDM?

  23. El Tel

Hi Pat, what about the 8′ foot African boy who has an amazing scoring record at Cljug?

Would he be a nuisance player that we need?

  24. luke

El Tel, maybe not sitters, but I meant that Eddie had missed 4-5 chances that he usually puts away like its no big deal at all. Sorry about the confusion.

  25. Pedro

El, by Eddy’s standards, he’s missed some sitters…

Ethan, I reckon he’ll make a come back.

The way Jet played for the reserves, I’d give him a goal up top on his own. He’s big enough!

  26. El Tel

Luke, seeing as we are now in the market for geriatrics how about that Senna geeezer? he was amazing against us last year.

  27. El Tel

Hi pedders, Sun talk fella (sorry)

I hope Eduardo returns as imo he has been the most natural finisher we have had since Wrighty and maybe Super Nic.

I think them media cunts done Eduardo’s head in calling him a cheat.

I agree with Ethan that he will never be what he was physically but he is a great player imo.

    ——————————-
it would be nice if they needed a cash flow now and were forced to get rid of torres during this window ..

with us only supposedly having money to spend
and the EPL’s best on offer id say even tight ass wenger would be chaffing at the bit to secure him ..

liverpool look the most likely to fall.. dont they ?
stevie g will go to spain and we will land torres , and they can get used to championship football :)

as for the africans . no race debates intended until they re-schedule this ACN to fall in line with the EURO’s there’s little point to sign them .

every 2nd season at a vital time 2 or 3 players go missing and it puts our title push under huge pressure ..

id rather him pool from France or Europe even Germany ..

  29. El Tel

I know it was only a couple of games but I like what I saw with Senna, he was probably the best opposition player I saw against us last season.

He destroyed attacks and was lethal going forward with that long range shooting.

  30. Pat

The term physical is a bit misleading. It helps, of course, to be physical, but great balance is just as important if not more so.

I remember last season messi was clattered by Vidic, Carrick, and I think Rooney(who tracked back) and Messi got out with the ball despite a lot of contact.

  31. luke

“Denilson will have a test on Saturday and he is likely to be out,” said the manager at Friday’s press conference. “Ramsey had a muscular problem today and it is likely to be out too. The injury is high up on his thigh but I think it is short-term.

“I am very short in midfield at the moment so even I am trying to practice at the moment!”

    -Wenger

    LETS BUY A CDM!!!

  32. Pat

El Tel, that wasn;t one game. He’s a great player and was the real reason Spain won Euro 08. I thought it was an injustice to him that Xavi won player of the tournament. Without Senna, I think Spain would have folded in midfield. Once they lose the midfield battle, they’re not as fluent and controlling.

  33. El Tel

Ethan, I like what you say mate you are right again mate.

I disagree regarding Gerrard though as I believe he is a typical Prem only player.

  34. El Tel

Pat, I do agree although the Spanish midfield is awesome mate.

Messi is just the best in the world mate and Eduardo will never be as good but I like the way Eduardo improvises with his shooting, like the one he missed against Everton that I think was blown offside anyway. Could have been a spectacular goal.

  35. El Tel

Ethan, I hate that cunt as I have many Bulgarians working for me who buy the shirt because of him, he has also played for the 2 Teams I hate most.

Football wise he is a good player and for me was better wwith the Spuds as he didn’t have that fat cunt next to him there taking all the credit. He would be good forr us as he links things up well.

  36. ethangunner

    pedro

i think if dudu was going to come good he would of by now .. he is useful dont get me wrong , but with wenger basically saying in December ‘show me boys i dont need to buy a striker’ ..

i thought he would of already secured the spot (minus RVP ), in fact if anything since wenger has said this, he’s been blundering more ..

i really did rave about dudu when he 1st joined , i hoped he would of knocked ade out instantly .

i live in hope for dudu!! and diaby, denilson nik b, theo and all those who aren’t up to standard currently .I just worry that wenger isnt killing the up and coming (rambo-vela-jack)
in the process ,because some arent living up to the hype .and others need to have a shot ..

i think who ever wins the EPL title this season it wont be about who does the best, it will be about who does the least wrong and remain injury free..

  37. El Tel

Fucking hell Ethan I thought my midfield trio was tasty but your three make things seem even more awesome. If Vela is used in midfield that is.

  38. Stu

Fucking dell laptop with its shit harddrive wrecking my fucking head. Finally back working..

Having read back and seen the free players for the summer i would go for Van Bommell. He may be a cunt but he is a winner and would certainly help whenever we need a battler in the middle if/when Song isnt available.

In other news im disgusted about Campbell signing. I dont know what everyone else things but i just dont see the point in signing him seeing as we already have Silvestre to be the old back up. IMO Wenger only did it and only bigged Sol’s fitness etc up is so he wouldnt have to bring in a qualty defender. Not happy about that in the least…

  39. patthegooner

Does not get more official than this

    http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/-we-ve-loan-agreements-with-spanish-clubs-?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+arsenal-news+%28News+Feed%29

so two kids and a grandad (I am not upset with sol signing)

But seriously, we are half way through the transfer window. Fuck the kids and fuck the pensioners. Where are the players that are going to make a difference this season. We need a DM and we need one now

Enough fucking about Arsene, you have had long enough to sort this out, and it should have been sorted out before the season began.

Going into a season with one REPEAT one Defensive minded midfielder is an accident waiting to happen. Surely in the whole of world football, A Defensively minded Midfielder that is quality, is available and wants to play for Arsenal.

Jesus you are like the most over possesive father in the world where no Bloke is good enough for your daughter, apart from some goody two shooed crab loving orphan from Brazilian who can only pass sideways and can be brushed off the ball by a £5 hairdrier from cash converters.

    El Tel Says:

    Luke,

would you as Manager try the Verminator as DM cover for a bit? I would.

    —————————–

Its tempting, but fact is we are mid season, Gallas and Vermy have a fantastic understanding and that will get better with each game they partner each other. To disrupt that now could put our defense back to square one mid season…to me that is suicide. Having said that, our defense has been shitty this season, hence me saying it is tempting to put vermy in CDM. However, if we do that, we would need to buy another CB on top of Sol as Shitvest and Sol are too old and probably not good enough to start every game at CD. It seems like more work than it is to put Vermy to CD, and I think we would be better off buying Mascherano, Gago, Toulalan, Matuidi, Senna etc. It would improve ramsey, Diaby and denilson to have more competition and we need depth in midfield right now.

  41. patthegooner

    Stu

    Van Bommel Great shout

Always liked him. Get than nasty fucker in now.

Don’t agree with you on Sol though. I think he is a asset on the training ground as well. I am sure he will double up as a defensive coach. Most importantly though, he knows what is like to WIN. We need winning mentality and if an ounce of that rubs off on the very young players in our squad, then it can only be of benefit.

  42. El Tel

    Hi Stu,

Yeh Van Bommel the dirty cunt I will go with that too, there are options when a bit of thought goes into it.

I reckon theres more to this Sol signing than we know. He probably has a replacement lined up if Billy goes and if he stays then it will be a temp cover job. Sol probably won’t play much and doesn’t bother me mate.

  43. David

    Stu

howz it going man..where you been?

So the Galindo rumors were true…with all these attacking midfielders coming in…its either Merida is off…or Cesc is off.

If Ozil comes in…I know for sure Cesc is off.

  44. luke

    Imagine a midfield of

    Cesc-Song-Ozil

We would score 5 a game with the assists Cesc and him rack up not to mention their finishing not to mention our forwards.

  45. Pedro

Sadly I’m not on the Peroni’s tonight.

Ethan, I don’t agree. It’s taken Diaby an age to get some form together after his ankle break… plus Eddy keeps getting played out wide!

    El, what was Sun talk?

  46. El Tel

PG, Good starting rant mate. There are lots of good names who are not linked being discussed this evening with no one analysing them.

I am not an AKB but the injuries are things you can’t see at the seasons start really so losing RVP and Bendy together was just shit luck but the DM thing is a different matter as many don’t even rate the only one we do have.

  47. patthegooner

If Denilson and Ramsey are out

I reckon he either go 4-3-3 with

    Diaby
    Cesc, Nasri

    or go 4-4-2 with

    Nasri, Cesc, Diaby, Rosicky

I would go 4-4-2 and try and score one more than them.

That midfield four is very attacking but we are a top four team and need to start acting like on. We need to go to Bolton with no fear, and go for the throat.

  48. Stu

I just dont see why Wenger brought in Sol. If its for helping the kids in training etc then why do we have Silvestre. I was always told thats what Silvestre was for and i’ve never been happy with him here.

Now we have 2 defenders that had successful careers but are both past it imo. Especially Campbell who was always about power and pace imo. Now because of his age he surely has no pace left and he essentially built a career on his physical attributes more than speed of thought.

David, i’ve been better but cant really complain considering other things happening around the world. I’ve been cut off from all knowledge because of a shit comp. Going back to teletext and sky news for football info is fucking awful..not something i recommend.

  49. El Tel

Pedro, calling you Pedders mate. them cunts at the sun call everyone by nicknames like Becks JT and Lamps.

I fucking hate it. If you don’t know these players you would think you were reading Klingon like them Dudes yesterday who tried taking over your site.

  50. Pedro

I said this after the Manc games last year:

‘There will be a million and one excuses flying around the net… injuries, youth… bad luck… but when it comes down to it, Wenger selected his squad for the year fully aware that people are prone to injuries and he told us that if you are young enough, you are good enough.’

  51. ethangunner

he liked coming in from the left thou pedro when he scored those 8 goals prior to the injury , and he was feeding ade … ade the barn door who cant fucking score ..

now he is feeding AA cesc and still isnt coming up to the top .

hey pedro you know i like dudu , always rated him .. but i always thought it was a big ask to come back season 1 after a accident like that …

wenger should of never taken the gamble , you knew i was against going into the season minus a top class scorer … thank god the other teams have also made a hash of it too ..

it makes wengers short comings not so obvious .

  52. patthegooner

It does make you wonder Pedro

I still think that nobody is coming in though, unless he can ‘jedi mind trick’ the opposing manager to let him go for £10.

I still think that it is his way to success or no success, and that means doing it in the way that he considers to be the right way, and that does not include spending money in these type of situations. I also believe that if he did, then it would take gloss of winning the league.

In his mentality I honestly think he would see more success in staying as is and coming second than spending 20m and winning it.

  53. Pedro

Mark Van Bommel is on a free from June… we’d pick him up on the cheap now… his big money making days are past him now.

  54. El Tel

    Pedro,

Yeh The media like to think they are friends with all the players and use made up nicknames, the modern English Literature is appaling these days.

I know I am not one to talk but these guys are supposedly highly educated.

  55. patthegooner

    Behrami is another great shout.

He is a winger on paper, but in the same way Wenger sees Eboue as anything other than a RB, I see the quality in Behrami to say he would be a nasty little terrier in midfield.

  56. Pedro

El Tel, have you heard the dunce they get on the radio from the Mirror on talk shite?

An apt ambassador for such a shit rag…

Pat, that’s what I was thinking… he’d do in right midfield for the tough games and I think he’s talented enough to slot into the holding role…

  57. Stu

No David, not a virus or anything. I just have awful luck i guess. I”ve had 2 different laptops and had to get at least 6 new hard-drives fitted in the last 2 or so years. Annoying as fuck!! Oh well…

  58. El Tel

Van Bommel, Behrami etc all very good shouts tonight. The options are massive but no we will buy some skinny little 5’7″ kid.

  59. El Tel

Pedro, thinking about it most of them are thick as shit mate.

I like Steve Stammers the Gooner who writes for the Mirror he isn’t a dunce Pal so it can’t be him you describe.

  60. patthegooner

It just really worries me that we seem to find no problems in scouting these kids who may/may not make it, yet we dont seem able to scout ready made players for the positions where we need them today and not in 5 years time.

I am delighted that we seem to get the youth right but where is the balance?

  61. patthegooner

    And again today

Bendtner is STILL 2 weeks away

FFS, I am sick of this 2 weeks away. It is the same story every fucking week.

  62. El Tel

    PTG,

How many of them kids will get into the Team? Are they ambitious or do they see us as the new Ajax the finishing School for Teams of their dreams?

  63. patthegooner

And I am sorry but things like

“Ramsey had a muscular problem today and it is likely to be out too. The injury is high up on his thigh but I think it is short-term.

Has to be down to our training, either that or we are over cautious with our players and will sideline them when others wouldn’t

Go back 20 years and pitches were shit, boots were rubbish, GBH on the pitch got a free kick at most, and squads consisted of about 15 players.

What the fuck is going on. We now have great diets, bowling green pitches, 30 man squads, unbelieveable conditioning, and basketball rules regarding fouls and we are constantly injured.

  64. patthegooner

    El Tel

I think you are right there, I think we are becoming a finishing school.

It is becoming a law of averages. Ask every bird in the nightclub if she wants a dance and you might get lucky!!!

  65. ethangunner

i am sure PTG , if wenger doesn’t buy , we will say the same thing we do every window , HE FUCKED UP ..

this window will be no different ..
actually it will be different because we actually have a chance this season if we can get points off the chev’s ….

so id say buying now from a common sense perspective is essential to success.

  66. patthegooner

Agree with every word there Ethan

It seems that at this time of the year, many fans bring up the ‘Faustino Asprilla’ excuse as to why you should not strengthen,

But for me, firstly this is something that should have happened in the summer, and if it had, I think we would be 10 points clear.

And secondly look at Arshavin. He saved our season last year, and I honestly believe without him, we would have fought with villa till the last day of the season for that CL place. He lifted us on and off the field.

  67. Stu

I remember a few weeks ago there was an article saying that Hazard would shun Arsenal in favour of Real Madrid. Some idiot in the comments (from London so i assume he was a gooner) said that Hazard should join us and then go to real in a few years when he is ready.

If he was serious (and im sure he was) then he is a fuckhead who needs a smack across the face for even suggesting it. DOes he not realise that us developing players only for them to leave before their peak is one of arsenals most annoying attributes? No arsenal fan should want this…let alone think it.

  68. patthegooner

    Stu

what is even more idiotic is the player that leaves for either Barca or Madrid.

I am trying to think of one player that has gone on to better things at either club?????? I know Henry won the CL but that was also down to those around him. I dont think you could argue that we had his best years.

  69. ethangunner

    pat

its quite simple really strengthen now , observe and have a re-shuffle / sell off at the end of the season ..

some need to go , some will want to go ..
and some fuckers have to go :)

big al and senderos definitely comes to mind :)
    even eboue yes EBOUWWWEE !
his wage must be too large to be used as back up . common sense prevails ..

    EL TEL
yes i think babbel is a far more complete player than theo and he was purchased a bit young by pool ! i also think wenger would do wonders with him …

he seems intelligent and pacey enough ..

  70. Stu

Yeah thats true ptg. Its the arsenal curse. Players that want to leave dont reach the same level of performances after they go.
Like Cashley. He won a few cups with the chavs but compared to his time with us he is a shadow of his former self.

Couldnt be happier with the way it turned out for Hleb and Flamini. We missed them the season after they left but they Must regret leaving.

  71. ethangunner

I know Henry won the CL but that was also down to those around him. I dont think you could argue that we had his best years.
    ——————————
i still think he would have a few left in that tank for Us fans too !

we were fucking mad to EVER let him go ..
back injury or not , if we can hold onto rosicklist then we could of secured him like wenger holds onto cesc …

he still is the closest thing to perfection for a striker and its not like he doesnt know our game ..

a tailor made .. fuck up on wengers behalf .

yes he was getting pissed off with the kids ..
sooner or later we all did !

he just felt it 1st for obvious reasons ..
we all got over it thou !

well some of us did :)

  72. A

lol ethan, did you just refer to babel as “intelligent”?!

The lease intelligent footballer in the league, along with Nani and Agbonlahor, the three musketeers of idiocy!

Babel has all the physical attributes, but is just WAY WAY WAY too unintelligent to ever make it at any semi-top club, his passing and decision making is just hilarious.

  73. Stu

Babel should get enough opportunities now to impress. Liverpool have no other attacking options left anymore so he has to play.

  74. A

Stu he’s not in the squad tomorrow because he’s on the verge of going either to birmingham or marseille. Though I guess with the latest injuries maybe that’ll be put on hold, or even cancelled, though maybe it’ll be pushed through so they have the funds to try and bring someone half decent in

  75. Stu

Rafa is crazy. Insua shouldnt be playing right now. Aurelio is only not starting because he wont sign a contract imo. BUt he probably wont sign because he isnt playing.

  76. A

If there’s noone else then I wouldn’t hate that Pedro. Surely Saha could happen though?! I refuse to give up on the thought of that!

  77. Stu

Saha? He is pretty injury prone though and another ex manc. Not questioning his quality but i would rather avoid getting an injury prone player to replace injured players.

As for Zaki…never liked him but wouldnt mind him on loan i suppose.

  78. patthegooner

I dont actually know if Babel is a good player or not.

I dont think you can judge any player based on the muppet that is in charge of them.

  79. patthegooner

Wiki reckon it is Hull that is the un-named club

But can’t see that. Tango Man shouts everything from the fucking rooftops when he is interested in a player.

  80. A

Saha has played in 18 of Everton’s 20 league games this year Stu, been fit most of this season, and scored alot of goals, been very impressive.

Ah ok Pedro, I thought he’d be just under 6 foot and a bit heavier than that!
