So good news all round, we now have all our kids on long term deals, well apart from Merida, Campbell says he wished he’d never have left, Cesc and Clichy are back for the Bolton game and Ade says he was naked and asked someone for a shirt and didn’t realise the shirt he put on was an XXL Arsenal one, I believe that, he never knew he was offside either. Twat.
Lets talk about the Bolton game today, I think we have a good squad to choose from but we lack height up top, all our tall players are out so I would maybe try something different for the game, mix it up a bit and see what happens.
Here’s my side for the game on Sunday.
Fabianski (not Aluminia please)
Sagna Gallas Campbell (Silvestre second half) Clichy
Nasri Cesc Vermaelen
Rosicky Diaby Arshavin
I would give Vermaelen the DM spot to see what happens, I would start with Campbell to see what he can do, he’s big and is desperate to prove himself and if he doesn’t last, then bring on Silvestre to finish.
Nasri, Cesc and Vermaelen in the middle with Rosicky and Arshavin out wide with big man Diaby up front, that way we have a target man, strength in midfield and a solid, going nowhere back four.
It’s time to drop Almunia, he can’t keep giving him chances any more than he could Lehmann when he went missing. Time to be firm and make some tough decisions.
I have always been a fan of Campbell, he is so strong and against bullies like Davies, he would be perfect. If we don’t play him, why buy him?
Why break up Gallas and Vermaelen? Well they are solid true, but we do still concede at set pieces, freeing him up to break up play could be a masterstroke, if we go at them with the same team that played Everton, they’ll know what to expect, and we won’t win.
I’m not saying replace Song, I’m saying Song isn’t here, so forget him for now, we can’t play kids against Bolton and I think Vermaelen could be what we’ve been missing. I also think Nasri could do the job, so if he doesn’t change the back four, then put Nasri in, bring Diaby back and try Thomas up front, either that or Vela.
We have all these players, they all have long contracts, so try them out, as for Merida, don’t play him again until he signs a new and extended contract, show him who’s boss.
We can win this, nay, we have to win this, we have to start showing the Premiership we are going nowhere but up, the others could drop points, but my fear isn’t those in front, it’s those behind, we should respect that and stop experimenting with the young’uns, experiment with the proven players for once.
I like Thomas and anyone who can score a hatrick against a good West Ham side deserves a run out, he’s big, awkward and very, very skillful, but he’ll never get better if he doesn’t get games, you give them to Denilson, now share it out.
I back us to beat Bolton and if he picks a team with intent, he will send out a message, no matter how many we score, we concede too many, Clichy back will add some steel, Campbell back will add some experience and against nasty sides like Bolton, that’s just what we need, so if any of you harbour a prejudice against Sol Campbell, give him a chance, this is his sort of game. And he says being back is like coming home, and I like that, welcome home Sol.
Two more days to debate, I’ve stopped speculating about new signings over the age of 8, so I won’t anymore, enjoy today, at least Cameroon lost, so Grover’s favourite Song could be back sooner than expected, I watched him give the ball away and then his uncle made a howler to let Gabon in to score, thank the good lord we didn’t sign Rigobert eh!
Rumour is new signing (if true) Samuel Galindo, will go straight into the first team squad as a left winger, hmmm, so what about new long term contract boy Vela, what happens to him? So maybe this story has no legs. Having said that another site says he will go to a Spanish club on loan as we can’t get him a work permit, meanwhile Pravda (Arsenal.com) remain tight lipped. We’ll see!
Have a great day people, only two left to show the flat track bullies who the new Arsenal are!
P.S. Check out dog of the week in the side bar —>

Le Grove is now smart phone compatible!

stop sleeping guys
Morning all…
Blimey read the whole thing and still top 5 Impressive
campbell wishes he never left….well almost all ex-gooners agree with that…
Where are you grovers?
i read that Galindo will be straight into our first team,if he gets a permit……
i dont know, what to make of that, becos guys like denilson, song, diaby went straight into first team, and we suffered the agony of there learning for 2-3 yrs..
I Still reckon (Hope) we may have a couple of signings announced at the same time and thats why they havent as yet officialy announced campbells return on Prada please be true !!!!
wow impressive geoff
campbell straight back into first team,so soon
Morning all, speaking of the Verminator did anyone see his interview on MOTD after the Toffees game? He had a fat/swollen lip – I like seeing warriors like that playing for us. At the moment it’s only him and the Arsh who show some steel.
And yes, the Tapas waiter MUST be dropped.
Oh and “Boom……Boom….in the battle against me and trigonometry.”
Time for Ramsey to play in the middle if Cesc can play, and I think JET should be on the bench.
Another option for DM could be Clichy…..
Good post Geoof…i would love Verminator to star as the DM for now and Campbell as his cover….
Let me repost what i had posted earlier.
THESE STATS AR SO PREDICTIVE OF OUR STYLE OF PLAY……..
Arsenal have not won consecutive away games in the Premier League since last April.
Arsenal have won their last three visits to the Reebok in all competitions, scoring three goals on each occasion.
Arsenal have won the last six meetings with Bolton in all competitions.
Kevin Davies has been booked against Arsenal more often than against any other club in the Premier League (9 times).
Tomas Rosicky has scored in each of his two Premier League appearances against Bolton.
65% of Bolton’s goals have been netted using the left foot and just eight per cent via the right foot, league high and lows respectively.
Ivan Klasnic has scored five goals in his last six Premier League matches.
69% of the goals Bolton have netted have come from set plays, the highest proportion in the Premier League.
top 20
chary
what has trigonometry gotto do with getting top spot at le-grove
morning all
It’s a variation on your “battle against me & a school lesson” theme, Sabeel. A bit childish, I know.
top 20
chary thats okay, but u havent answered me why u used “trigonometry” there..is it used just as a representation of a school lesson as u say
by the way–to all-> avatar is a must watch..
Not sure Campbell is ready to start, what I cant work out is, if he’s been training with us for 3 months surely Arsene should have signed him on the 1st of Jan then we could have used him earlier!!!!! Whether he’s good enough we shall see.
Kenya if we read those stats to the team, it would be a good move!
i wonder if campbell hadnt left us..would we have won atleast One trophy…i know..no point dwelling on past…
Cos yesterday, Sabeel, when I used trigonometry as an example, I said something about it being a three sided battle. A blogger here from a couple of years ago, Chris, gave me that avatar – I’ve actually met the guy in the avatar BTW, and had a picture of me with him printed in a London evening newspaper. Not much of a claim to fame really.
Good post! Flamini back any one?
Bolton has scored the most goals from set pieces in the prem this year. If that isn’t a red herring I have no idea what is.
If big Sol can play I say screw it, go with the lineup Geoff proposes. We know TV can run up and down the pitch like a mad man, has an excellant left foot for a pass, is terrific in the tackle and in the air. Of course there is the small matter of tactics/positioning and all that but a quality determined fighter like him will show up no matter what.
That is a big IF Sol can play the 90 though (no way I want see Silvestre back there in a prem game unless we have an injury crisis). I saw the highlights on ATVO (which is absolutely pathetic now they don’t even show the whole damn ressie games anymore) and he looked like he was huffing and puffing with his hands on his hips at one point.
I think the signing of Campbell is a bizarrely backwards move…
while we’re at it why not re-sign Luzny & Stepanovs
and we need an attacker… Francis Jeffers anyone?
cool chary,
& seems like evryone is still sleeping
Morning Le Grove – you have surprised me Geoff about Sol, but I guess whilst he is all for showing what he is still about, good time to throw him in..
morning all, good stuff geoff although i cant see it happening.
i dont think sol is even properly registered with us yet so he cant play till thats all sorted with the league.
dublin… more chance of me playing for the arsenal than him mate!
I hope you take this the way its meant Geoff/Pedro
I wrote a peice this morning and got accused of being as bad as the ******* who writes on Le Grove –
I thanked him for the compliment, and that I felt honoured
Nice pics
Suppose ur rite Tom, any rumours off any good players sign?
Coyle will want to put his mark on Bolton, so expect em to try and play proper football! So, no hoof balls up to Davies all the time…
Sol aint match sharp yet, but i would start him vs Stoke in the FA Cup game…
I agree JET should be very close to getting a run out and hope he is on the bench…
As for our other new signing! He may well be part of the 1st team squad IF we can get a work permit…
Hope Fabianski gets the nod ahead of Al…
Morning…
Sig;
How is signing Sol backwards?? He is short term cover… And get off Luzhny’s back! He was a dude!
Comparing Sol to Stepanovs is a bizareely backward comment too…
rico;
You really need to work on your titles for those posts though! very inflamatory, if you ask me… i was gonna call you a bad name on there too!
geoff
i’d rather have a proper striker up-front, yeah we don’t have many. so i would stick with the only one eduardo play nasri up and put diaby in the middle and sicky on the bench for the 60′ sub.
wenger really needs to buy a CF
i agree when will arsene see alumini has no prensence in the box for good sake get riof him we will win nothing with him between the sticks…
MG – thats so cruel
will fab start??
i liked the idea of TV as DM
Fabianski WILL start vs Bolton.Almunia will pick up some mystery illness, you wait and see….
Laters y’all…
Here’s to a new signing by the time I return…
dublin! not that i know of mate! everyone we get linked with wenger dismisses as too expensive or he’s just not interested
Morning all!
Good post Geoff! Not sure I’d go with Sol, he was only good for 45 the other night… Fabianski looks like a starter… hopefully he’ll have a blinder and end Almunia’s season!
Ha, ha Rico, welcome to the club!
Pedro, he was only allowed 45, he’s strong and fit.
Its hard at first though Geoff, being a sensitive soul as I am
Any tips?
Yeah, tell them ‘why read it then pencil dick’ then call them ‘sad bastard blog stalkers’
It works for me Rico.
Rico, there’s always a small section of mouthy twats on the internet. Ignore them and take their comments as a compliment.
Pedro, someone’s having you over with the dog bit, they don’t live for 25 years!
Sol Campbell joins a large number of players who thought the grass was greener elsewhere, soon to realise the grass doesn’t get much greener than the red grass of Arsenal. Or something. Look at Alex Hleb, back at Stuttgart after his Barcelona adventure flopped like a high jumping fish. Or how Mathieu Flamini’s career has nosedived since he left. He’s being played at full back for Milan, when he even gets on the pitch, and from being one of the most effective central midfielders in the Premier League he’s now even being linked with a move to Sp*rs. It doesn’t get much worse than that…………
Thanks Geoff/Pedro – you two do make me chuckle
Billie is only 14 weeks
Kenya, I once said ‘let he who has never sinned cast the first stone’
Only because no one other than me could.
i’d put campbell up front….lol
Cant drop Traore Geoff, the man has being doing well, ok errors in his game but with each 90 mins he is improving no end, maybe play him furhter up field but I wouldnt drop him. Diaby up top is an intresting one no doubt he has all the attributes but do worry that he wouldnt be very good with his back to goal.
Worth a gamble though especially against these shit kickers.
The pairing of Obrien and Cahill is not what they had in the past with Jaidi and Pederson so it may favour Arshavin and players who play on the floor.
I would go for
_______________Fabi
Sagna____Gallas___Vermie__Traore
_____Nasri____Cesc__Ramsey
______________Diaby
__________Arshavin__Vela
Dam its very hard pick a side
Could Eastmond do a job CDM at the weekend or Francis Coquelin?
Sunu is big and strong enough to play up top but seems to behind Watt in the pecking order.
Jes its slim pickings all I hope is that Randall was taken off after 45 mins aginst Westham and I hope thats not a sign that he was being saved for the weekend. Scrap my last team start Eastmond alongside Diaby and Cesc, they’ll mind him.
Morning all.
Nice post Geoff. One thing that Campbell will offer that no one else does in this team is a level and experienced head who can be called upon when needed. Vermaelen is still too young within this team to lead them with any real confidence and Gallas never has and never will be that sought of player. Our pathetic collapse against the spuds last year in the 4-4 draw proved that Gallas hasn’t got the sense to order his kids to play into the corners for the last 4 minutes of the game.
And as for Samuel Galindo….what the fuck is the obsession with left sided wide men?? We have Vela, Rosicky, Arshavin and more who can perform on the left. Even Nasri and Diaby have played a lot of games out there! We need someone on the right hand side ffs!! We have to choose between Theo who clearly isn’t a winger, Bendtner our target man striker or eBay the right full back replacement!! This problem has had me baffled for years now!
Rocky I thought Traore had a mare against Everton, Eastmond is too slight I believe.
taig – agree re Sol’s experience. We have cried out for someone to sort the defence out, maybe he will do this at Arsenal when he finally hangs up his boots. Just think what the defenders ‘waiting for their cahnce’ can learn over the next few months…
TICKETS IN THE SIDE BAR —->
Hello gents
Geoff I see where you coming from with the VErminator but play him in his position is what I feel. He has probably been the best defender in the league this season so I wud jus leave him where he is.
John Terry believes Arsenal pose the biggest threat to Chelsea’s chances of winning the Barclays Premier League this season.
The Blues boasted an 11-point lead over Arsenal after beating them at the end
of November but Arsene Wenger’s side have cut that to just three after Tomas Rosicky’s late equaliser them a 2-2 draw against Everton last weekend.
Champions Manchester United remain firmly in the hunt and are just a point adrfit of Chelsea.
But Terry believes the way the Gunners have brought themselves back in contention proves the North Londoners mean business after being out of the title race in recent years.
The Chelsea skipper said: ‘We cannot afford any more slip-ups.
‘Thankfully the teams in and around us have been slipping up as well, but Arsenal are right back in the frame again. When we beat them 3-0 I thought they were out of it to be honest.
‘We need to concentrate on ourselves because apart from the Watford game, when we were brilliant albeit against a lesser side, we haven’t been playing as well.
‘Hopefully that game will give us a boost and we can kick on now, and pull away when the other teams are slipping up.’
The 29-year-old also revealed how Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti took the squad and coaching staff out for dinner last week to in a bid to boost morale.
Late, late show: Rosicky levels for Arsenal in the dying seconds against Everton
‘It’s the first time since I have been playing that a manager has taken everyone out and paid for it as well,’ said Terry.
‘It was a little bit of team bonding. We are with each other 24 hours a day and in each others pockets, but everyone enjoyed it and had a good meal.”
Chelsea have been boosted by the return to fitness of Portugal midfielder Deco, but the 32-year-old is unlikely to be match fit to face Sunderland this weekend.
Ancelotti is more likely to hand Deco a recall in the FA Cup fourth-round tie at Preston a week later.
Prefer Cocquelin to Eastmond.
Campbell wont start on sunday, he needs more games under his belt.
Seeing that dros last night L’fool, no way that Chamakh will sign for them
whoever we play up top is really gonna struggle on sunday, watt is rubbish and probably wont even make the bench and eddie is a shadow of himself these days, gonna be a tough one
Ya traore wasnt at his best but was going well in his last match, needs a game to get into it I think.
It really is hard to pick the team this weekend.
I scheee Schteve MACC LAARen wants little jack on loan. You benefit from EPL moreso in my opinion if indeed we do let him out on loan.
What you think of Sunu guys, he is also stalling on a deal simular to Fran Merida.
He is powerful and determined perhaps worth a go in some game and he might do an Anelka
delighted to see Sol but he is far from the answer. thing is if he plays we cannot play a high line.
Morning All,
I love the idea of TV as DM i really think that would work. I agree with some of the earlier comments about Sol’s fitness though and whether he is good for a start. Is his mindset right though? This is the man that “disappeared” against WHU
Well done to Reading last night btw and does anyone know how serious Torres injury was?
This is a nice read groovers…..
http://youngguns.wordpress.com/2010/01/13/galindo-trains-with-arsenal-before-completing-move/#comments
sunu has looked better than watt but still nowhere near ready.
I’ve seen Sunu a few times, reminds me a bit like a very young, raw Kevin Campbell, doesn’t do it for me yet to be honest.
I’m really fed up with playing AA as a middle man. he’s wasted there. I believe dodo is back to form, he should be the target man, or even Vela should take his chance.
Also, did anybody notice how bad has Sagna became, specially in Everton match?
Denilson is always under pressure, but lately Sagna and AA had their poor run of form too.
I dun think Campbell could make right now. I believe he needs more reserves matches to be able to cover our back.
I wouldn’t trial TV in the midfield for an away match; assuming he has played there before.
if sol was too slow to play in our system we wouldn’t have signed him
Sol is slow Arsenal Tom…he has not got quicker has he?
‘Arry thinks we can win title
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/2807031/Sol-cant-make-World-Cup.html
Pravda – ha ha! it is a bit is’nt it….misinformation and outright lies.
colonel… i dunno mate, but wenger is a stat maniac so i cant see why he’d have got him if he wouldn’t work the way we play, sol’s already said they’ve been putting him through all sorts of tests and had a “massive dossier” on him.
Fuck me Sol is twice as quick as Song and you all think he’s brilliant!
Sol has been around for ever in the top division, he doesn’t need bedding in.
lets up he has a purple patch a la Dennis
Sol is moreover a WINNER,song has not won anything yet for us to woo him like that…
lets hope he has a purple patch a la Dennis!
What do you think about this quote…
Gael is forcing his errors back!
Geoff and Sol, sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g…..
Song & Song-lovers on a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g and $$&*&$$
Sol is mentally unstable
Saha wants a 3 yr deal 60k a week, we wont offer him that
Sol will do the business for us. he’s experienced and he’s a big lump who will bully opponents. I think it’s a very good signing since he will just be there for backup
NOW CAN THE LIKES OF HLEB, FLAMINI…etc and those aspiring to quit Arsenal in future learn from Sol Campbell quotes below:-
He said: ‘You go away and you realise what a top club Arsenal is. ‘I think both sides
realised that (we missed each other). But you’ve got to apply yourself and I’ve worked bloody hard to get to this situation. It’s been great, it’s fantastic being back. It’s like being home, really.’
Yeah, I agree HB. Sol is there as back up, not to take the place of one of our centre backs!
If he doesn’t storm of the pitch honest bill
Don’t see why he’d storm off, he will just be happy to be back in the top flight.
RG, Willy G did a similarly ridiculous thing against Birmingham. We’re not worrying about that now are we?
Pedro, we need 4 centre backs, not just for injuries, but for rotation and for my team selection against Bolton.
Is there a problem with sitting in a tree with Sol then Simon?
Lucas Neill has confirmed he has joint Galastasry so Senderos to Everton should follow suit shortly and maybe the Saha deal if rumors are to believed
Don’t think Wenger really signed him for the sake of rotation. It’s the one area he doesn’t really like to mess with
Song is also unstable, he came on laughing against spurs when we were winning 4-2 and we ended up 4-4, what the fuck did he find so funny.
Simon, do you hate Sol because he’s black then?
Pedro – willy came back Sol then walked out on his contract at arsenal!! I am personally not happy with returning!! We have a couple of passed it granddads as backup!! I think arsenal.fc can do better!!
Rob if we wanted someone else Wenger would have to spend his pocket money.
Rob, any one whose good enough, wont want to leave to be Arsenal’s back up in the lead up to a world cup.
Sol is more than capable of doing a job. The old back 4 didn’t retire till well into their 30′s. Keown was about 37 I think?
sol did fine at portsmouth didn’t he?! he’s won more than we have since he’s left!
Eduardo is not back to form… He is really struggling still. 1 good header doesnt make a summer..;-)
Sol will be fine. Let’s at least give him a chance. He was part of our invincible side, he’s a big dirty bastard, god knows we’ve been missing one of those. He can still do the business.
I think Adams, Keown and Bergkamp were all 36.
Sol’s a baby, anyway we have spent too many years waiting for kids to grow up, how many games did Senderos play before Wenger realised he was hopeless?
Now we are doing it with a bunch of others led by Denilson, then one day he’ll realise it and someone else will appear.
Notice no one has said to Wenger, ‘I told you so’ about Senderos.
Got that right Tom!
I’m off for a bit.
I really don’t see the problem with signing Sol, he is only their as a stopgap untill the end of the season, he may not even get a game in the end, anyway much prefer him to Silvestre
I back up Sol to do the job….i remember during the incible run. He was up to it and he will do the job for Arsenal…MARK MY WORDS
apart from carling cup we didnt changed center pair – not even in fa where every one was expecting a rotation. so thats simply points out that we were either short in defence or didnt have confidence on the bench. and this is the reason v signed sol
Pedro- keown wasn’t playing for a team trying to win the champions league, premier league and FA Cup though.
I’m sorry but I don’t trust wengers judge in defenders.
re Sol = AKB
Sorry Rob? His last season was played with the invincibles!
On Saha I like him, he’s a real chancer, hard work rate knows where the net is and gets in great positions both goasting off the fullback and nipping in between the centrehalves but something which he may bring to our game which we currently dont have enough off is he will make space for others by making dummy runs and pulling the centrehalves apart.
Currently were very static up top but Saha could create more space for AA to operate in which in turn should leads to lethal consequences.
He is good in the air not that we cross the ball or anything and also still retains quiet a bit of pace.
He will be more useful than an off colur EDS, or is this the real EDS?
One thing I worry about if it goes ahead is nearly all our strikers are left footed.
even If sol is shit, id rather see a legend trying but being shit than a manc
ArsenalKenya – that was 5/6 years ago. He is 35 and hasn’t played for 6-8 months.
I think people are over hyping sol. If you’re happy with him and silvestre as backup then that’s fine but I expect more from my 1500 pound season ticket
Tom – well said old boy
Keown played till he was 37, pace is not a major issue unless you positional pace is useless ala Senderos and Slyvester, see Danny Blind,Blanc,Maldini,LeBeouf,Dessaily,Cannavro,Matterazzi,Vidic,Puyol none of them are or were fast
Pedro – Was known 37 in the invincible season?
No Rob, he was 38.
Sorry, 37… closer to 38 though…
I don’t hate anyone Geoff. Except that guy in Currys!
known = Keown
Simon… and Josh from those t-mobile adverts
I hate Allardyce; 0n a scale of 1 to 10; its 10.
Geoff, I agree with what you are saying about the team. It needs Vermaelen in midfield, no one else is up to it. If you bring a kid in, he could make a really basic error Verm can mix it with the big boys like Bolton. His reading of the game and passing are definitely good enough. The way Verm has been striding forward of late is more like a midfielder anyway.
I would probably keep Diaby in midfield but have him playing right up behind the centre forward with Cesc a bit deeper.
I say it almost every season when we have an injury crisis – but we have the players at the club, its about using them in the right way.
Geoff,
Great post, i agree with you…especially that line up. It has steel and height in it and can contest with the more physical sides in the premier league. I just hope Arsene has the same thoughts as well.
Also like you i have belief that Sol can be extremely useful for us and i like the idea of using fishhead as a half-time sub for Sol, it makes sense to me.
morning grovers

)
surely we aint gonna sign saha french injury prone and free….we are aint we
is it true numbnuts is as good as liverfool player
(lucky we never signed him
If Cameroon cock up their group Song will be back for the Villa game. What a result that would be.
A nice draw vrs Zambia following by a adequate trouncing by Tunisia would be lovely!
Morning Nick!
goonerman… well said old boy.
allardyce = cunt
cant wait to see him get sacked
Big News
Wenger has offered the entire U10′s team long term contracts with huge signing on fees!
And people wonder where the moneys going! Its going on building the best U18s team of all time, and perpetual 3/4th place finishes in the PL!
morning pedro, have I missed much???
I am Gooner,
I’m hoping that Cameroon lose the next match against Zambia on Sunday but i think the Zambians are physically smaller even though technically better with the Katongo brothers & Chamanga orchestrating. They may get a win and against Tunisia in the last match i think they will have too much for their Northern brothers. I hope i’m wrong though.
team on sunday will be
almunia
sagna gallas tv traore/clichy
cesc denilson diaby
nasri arsh eduardo
If denilson isn’t fit then diaby will probably move back to DM with maybe nasri moving back into midfield and tom coming in up front. Or Ramsey will come into midfield and nasri will stay up front.
We could see clichy coming straight back into the team as AW has said he is looking very sharp and a sharp Clichy is one of the best LBs in the world so you never know. Oh and traore was dog shit against everton, oh and kevin davies will hang out on his side to exploit and bully him, so clichy’s experience of playing against davies would come in handy.
There will be no experimenting with Sol, TV as DM, JET or Diaby at CF or any other wild reconfigurations of the team. This is the league, away up north, its three points we desperately need after the everton draw. AW will go for stability and experience. I expect us to win and Cesc to score because he is a god.
It’s so quiet in here…
zzzzzzzz…..
Hat-trick…
Rayman, I also think that’ll be the team on Sunday. But I think Sicknote will come in if Denilson is not match fit.
Cesc is not god… He is Jesus
4
Yeah, it’s been pretty lively the last few weeks!
Transfer window is always a good time to have a moan on here! haha!
Where you been?
dffsfs
Edmond, you can come on if you stick to the blog rules.
You are right Denilson – Cesc is Jesus and God is dutch, blond and wears a number 10 shirt(as modelled by Kate Lawlor in BB years ago).
Am very happy the way our club is being run at present, look at the shit Man ure / L.Fool are with their finances and we are in a healthy state.
£20 mill Aquilani !!
£30 mil Berbatov !!
Nuff said really
Well done to wenger and the board steadying the ship
http://www.sport.co.uk/news/Football/32562/Chamakh_to_decide_between_Arsenal_and_Barcelona.aspx
So Liverpool was bulshit and now its Barca. They’re using old quotes!
So basically, we’re the only ones interested but they’re trying to scare us into overpaying him. Nice try.
Howdy all,
good post today geoff, positive in the right places and constructive as always – full marks :p btw I was planning on saying “I told you so” re Senderos when I next see Wenger, it may be a while.
Just a quick point on the site in general but I’ve been trying to use it on my iphone and when there’s a mass of posts it takes an age to scroll down to the bottom of the comments, is there a button that does a go to end thing that I’m missing and if not could there be one please. Oh and the injury list needs updating.
Rob Green -
I’m not sure who you think we should get as back up for the defence, only Chelsea have any really good backup central defenders that I can think of, Liverpool are starting with Carragher who is surely the worst defender in the league atm; Man Utd are using youngsters as backup – much like we would be with Djourou if he were fit; I guess Man City might be an example but the amount of money they’ve spent isn’t feasible for anyone but them and Chelsea. Given all of this I’m quite happy with Sol as backup.
That Chamakh story about his telling the world which clubs are interested at the end of the window is all down to what wenger tells chamakh after he knows about Bendtner. Everything hangs on Niks fitness.
AndAPrayer,
Check if you have ‘End’ button in your iPhone touchscreen keypad. Just press that button and it will take you right to the bottom end of the website.
Gazzap,
Remember last January window and whole Arshavin Saga. It looks same to me as Arsh was linked with a move to Barca as well. Even Spuds went close to signing him but in the end he came to THOF.
Interesting thoughts in the post as usual but a little bit confused about whether you want to give more younger and fringe players a go (JET and Campbell) or not -
I would put Fabianski in (though Wnger’s probably waiting for some kind of training injury) but I think it’s much too soon for Campbell, who could only play a half at WHam and the Vermaelen thing is too radical – maybe pre-season, if Djourou is back but don’t do stuff you can’t do against the top teams in the big matches coming very soon now.
If Vermaelen/Gallas are going to play those games you have to get the DM sorted out now – if it’s going to be Denilson or even Diaby (I’d be looking at Eastmond if Wnger rates him higher than Coquelin on the round pegs basis) they need to play now. I like Diaby up top but I don’t think it’sd going to happen except maybe by accident if he gets one or two at the end of games.
I think if we want Chamakh, its time to stop messing about. Give Bordeaux a couple of million to secure the player now, and stop him talking to other clubs. Loan him back to Bordeux if thats what they want. then pay the player a normal amount.
Otherwise you get into all this signing on fee and massive wages business like we had with Milan and Flamini.
but I dont know how good he is, so this is all assuming wenger really wants this player.
Big Dave
Football clubs are supposed to win trophies. Do you have a tshirt with “60m Operational Profit” on the back?
Or a DVD of the finance department arranging the accounts?
I for one would rather boast about how we won the league the last 3 years, as well as a CL and a CL runners up than how we have £100m of retained profits in 3 years.
no end key on my iPhone. Its so annoying!
Gazzap
Why would he leave now for £40k PW, when he can leave in the summer for £80k PW.
He isnt a complete retard.
Gambon, you’ve got to congratulate the PR machine. Arsenal fans actually get excited by profits they’re never going to see the benefit of!
nope, none there, you can do a return to top link on a website so something like a return to bottom one would be very useful for the iphone version of this site – if it’s possible and you can be bothered of course
Again… totally agree with Gambon again.
Not only that, his team are also in the Champs league. If he joins us, that’s it for the season for him.
Gazzap, I think Wenger really wanted Charmakh back in August cause he wasn’t sure how will RvP adopt to the new formation.
Now that he knows, I kind of get a feeling he doesn’t fancy him that much any more.
Pedro busy new year and all
I can put newest comments at the top
You still have to scroll to the bottom for the comment box though!
not sure if it can be done but if you could do something to improve the site (its difficult I know, so close to perfection and all) then I thought I’d let you know it would be appreciated.
Pedro
The thing that annoys me is when people say “look at Leeds/Pompey”
These clubs borrowed enourmous amounts to try and buy success. We have well over £100m in the bank, there’s a huge difference.
Ultimately the PR machine needs to keep everyone brainwashed while they spend the money on building properties throughout N5
I know Pedro likes Gambon and I got told off for saying financial stability was important at the weekend but I’ve got to say it again:
Man U haven’t spent the Ronaldo money
Lpool are looking at financial meltdown imo
Chelsea haven’t spent that much for maybe 2-3 years
No-one is buying anyone
Pompey, West Ham are in all sorts of probs
(and did you see David Sullivan’s comments on football finances generally)
Of course Man U fans (and maybe still most Chelsea fans) will tell you all that money on players and wages are worth it because they’ve won lots of things – but Liverpool fans will say it wasn’t because they spent the money and didn’t win stuffand long ago Leeds fans are still paying the costs of 2-3 fantastic seasons (where they still didn’t win anything).
I don’t want to be too defensive but if Abramovich turns up and buys more expensive players in every position (except JT I guess) and pays much higher wages, it’s going to be hard to compete and you’re gonna win less trophies if they get some. But buying expensive players doesn’t guarantee anything even if they fit in and play well straight away – if they don’t work out it can be a disaster.
That’s not to mention all the Champiobnship and lower teams -
Are Arsenal really so different with that massive wage bill (and just saying but much as i hate the Usmanov possibility, Stan could easily come in and saddle the club with debts in a Glaser/ Hicks stylee).
Chris,
You have a fundamental misunderstanding on both the argument im making, and the debt in top flight football.
Businesses dont go bust by spending the money they have in the bank. When you get paid do you lock yourself in a room for a month to avoid “doing a leeds” ?
And who said anything about expensive players?
Look how much Utd paid for VDS or Pool for Reina. Why the fuck do we have a spastic in goal?!
Chris, what about the Veron, Ferdinand, Rooney, Vidic, Berbatov, Valencia, Carrik, Hargreaves, Nani, Anderson, RVL, Tevez, and every other cunt they bought over the years for huge, huge, money.
What about trebling the size of their ground money, what about the money the Glazers took when they sold the club back to themselves?
Sorry mate, one players fee counts for fuck all against what they spent.
As for us, we’ve spent nothing, extending all those contracts destabilises the market as much as buying a players for £30million does. And who’s guilty of that???
Gambon-
it’s a bit of a trap 22 in that you want to have some money in the bank in case things don’t go the way you want and you don’t get champs league etc, that way you’re not in the schtum financially. However, by spending that money you might be more likely to ensure that you do stay in the champs league and get more success.
So far we’ve walked that line pretty successfully (although obviously not as well as we’d have liked with the no trophies and all) but it could easily slip away. It’s very difficult to know what to do, if we don’t get champions league football for a prolonged period then we won’t have enough cash on our budget no matter how much we have saved but spending the cash only increases the chance of success not guarantees it and if it goes wrong with that money spent we are definitely up shit creek.
It’s one of the main reasons why I get a bit wound up with people demanding we spend money as it really isn’t as simple as that, both spending it and not spending it could have really serious implications for Arsenal until the stadium is paid off and the board and Wenger are having to do a pretty neat balancing act within that remit.
Chris,
Totally agree with you on this one. I saw Liverpool being knocked out of the FA cup by Reading last night and you could see the faces of Liverpool fans. They call themselves one the biggest clubs in Europe but they’ve been playing like a Championship team this season. If they can’t manage to qualify for next season’s CL, they will become a mid-table club and they won’t attract any top class players.
Every manager in the PL is envious of our self-sustainable model and our young talented squad. All of these managers know that the future belongs to Arsenal. You won’t see a single manager in PL and even in Europe (bar Mourinho) criticising Arsenal’s system & style.
Gambon-
in answer to your “When you get paid do you lock yourself in a room for a month to avoid “doing a leeds” ?” comment. No of course not, but I do make sure that I have a bit set aside so that if things go tits up I can keep up the mortgage repayments for a while.
Cool
my comment just vanished
Okay Chris, care to answer? Stunners, what self sustainable model? We’ve won fuck all, over pay kids, bribe everyone to stay with massive contracts.
I’d sooner have Barca’s a nice mix, one kid, the rest ready mades, a trophy every season and the occasional treble and playing to packed houses.
Which clubs have actually said they were envious then? Reading.
Geoff
the point is Most fans are so frustrated with a trophyless 4-5 years, that they are trying to come to terms with whateveer positives they can draw from the CURRENT STATE of Arsenal FC…
Hence we have such things abt self-sustainable ..etc etc…Look at Ajax guys, what has happened,if u keep talking abt on only one phrase “self-sustainbility”
The more we(wenger/ArsenalFC) try to become stubborn in False veil of Sustainability theory ,we will end up
as another Ajax…
Liverpool are envious Geoff
The more we(wenger/ArsenalFC) try to become stubborn in False veil of Sustainability theory *at the COST of First Team ,we will end up as another Ajax…
Sabeel, eventually those young players will play for the first team or be moved on – if they play for the first team and develop into the players their potential would suggest then surely that is to the benefit rather than detriment of the first team?
If not then players like Arshavin and TV fill the gaps. Also, once the stadium is paid off we are in a realyl strong postion if we can stay where we are now or, obviously, improve.
We are a well run business that’s why the rest are envious.
manure won the league a cup champs final and still had to sell their best player to make a slim profit. what happens when they win fuck all this year???
oh and Sabeel – are you suggesting that we should screw sustainability? that’s an awful idea that will only lead to massive problems sooner or later.
Nick what happens when we win fuck all this year, at least they have won the league 3 years on the trot, the Carling Cup and the Champions league, what did we win, the Emirates cup and the Amsterdam trophy, whoopee fucking do’s.
As for Liverpool, they won the Champions league, got taken over by 2 sceptics and bought a bunch of shit players, we bought 1 and sold two.
Fuck me, apples for apples please girls.
and another thing Sabeel,
we are of course frustrated at a lack of trophies but if you look at who has won those trophies that we haven’t you’ve got Man Utd and Chelsea as the prime candidates. Chelsea are bank rolled by the Russian oil industry and, dare I say it, mafia. While Man Utd have been over spending like crazy fools and it looks like it might well bite them on the arse, those debts need repaying at some point and i’d be a bit surprised if Man Utd went on a spending splurge for the next few years as they look to tighten their belts – that will effect them. Who is the team doing the best without having either overly burden themselves with debt that doesn’t seem to have a clear repayment plan or a sugar daddy owner? It’s arsenal, it may not have equated to trophies in the last couple of years but it’s probably going to be better for the long term future of the club.
As long as we get the players we need, i dont care how much they cost as long as their up to standard the board can then spend the rest on flats for all i care
Geoff – while I’d agree that Man Utd have done well with their model thus far can you really see it continuing on an ongoing basis? That money has to repaid at some point and that will eat into what ol’ rednose can spend. Over these last few years they’ve done exceptionally well but there seems to be a reall danger they have mortgaged their future to pay for current success – much like labour and the country.
It means labour might get re-elected and man utd fans have started to hate the glazers slightly less but it could well fuck over the next generation.
I am at work
I lie the why do we have to have a spastic in goal line if it matters
I believe a lot of Chairmen have identified following the Asenal model (Newcastle deffo maybe Celtic but also some others) although i don’t think there really is an Arsenal model they could actually follow.
I do think ManU was finacially stronger before the takeover but how many ManU’s are there and how many clubs who overstretched themselves on the back of anticipated TV money – which was fine when it kept on going up but not so good in a recession.
Other clubs folding will affect the game as a whole whatever our finances but that’s not a reason to overspend. As i have said before transfer fees are not always that important in the big scheme of things (and i saw a transfer spend plus wages analysis somewhere that showed Arsenal was one of the biggest speners in that way) but expensive players also have big wages and long deals and want longer and better deals if they work out almost straight away.
Of course I sympathise with the we’re just a couple of top players from world domination view (although I don’t think so – unless you can guarantee the right players) but like I also said before how many of the players you’ve all bigged up at different times do you think now would have brought trophies to the club compared to the number that you think on honest reflection we were lucky to miss out on?
I fundamentally disagree on the contract re-extension thing though – the way contracts are structured it’s the only way to retain the value of the squad, never mind keeping the team together – everyone complasins about Flamini but he just made a sensible choice for himself – if you don’t renew you’ll end up with a different less stable structure and lose your best players much more frequently with less recompense.
Geoff,
Being self-sustainable doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed to win trophies, it brings security to the club, trophies will follow soon. Same goes for those big spenders as buying Berba, Aquilani & Sheva for crazy money does not get you trophies.
Your every argument starts and finishes on only one thing that we’ve won fuck all. Liverpool bought Torres for £27m and Aquilani cost them £20m. In January, they’re already out of everything. On the other hand, we’re still in 3 competitions and so are many other teams. No matter how good a team is or how many multi-milliom signings they’ve made, they’re not guaranteed trophies.
Secondly, we don’t over-pay anyone cos if we don’t pay then there are other clubs who will. Extending contracts isn’t bribing. Every club in the world extends their players’ cotracts to keep them as longer as they can. Why do Barca have extended Messi’s contract until 2016, pay him £250-300k a week and have a buy-out clause of £250m in his contract? This isn’t bribing, this is valuing your player.
You prabably don’t other managers’s interviews before Arsenal games, every manager praises AW for keeping this club where it is on a regular basis. The most recent was David Moyes praising AW for believing in his team and keeping the team there & there-abouts in every single season he has been here.
AndAPrayer
I would like to draw the attention to a fact that we have to invest the yearly transfer budget directly onto the team
Is there so bad a need that we have to extend contracts of 17 players???
why doesnt part of that money go into buying couple of more experienced signings of class just like Verminator type of signings proved?
What is to be questioned is This type of stubborn policy of wenger to extend contracts blindly ONLY to follow that rule to invest money on the team,INSTEAD of using it,majorly to get the MUCH NEEDED experience for the first team..
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is set to become a pawn in this year’s Barcelona election.
El Mundo Deportivo today says United’s financial worries and the lack of new contract talks for Rooney has all of Barca’s presidential hopefuls on high alert.
Real Madrid have also been linked with Rooney, where Cristiano Ronaldo has publicly urged his former United to join him next season.
Barca, meanwhile, could also be a destination for Rooney, with any serious candidate sure to attract a huge voting boost with the England star’s commitment.
Anyone remember the front pairing of Kiwomya and Hartson with Selley and Hillier behind? I do, guess who changed that – Mr Wenger.
If Arsenal fans actually feel that the club is not in a good place to challenge then you are in crazy land. Where we were in 1996 to where we are now then you are mental. This nip-picking at the team is a joke. Wenger has some faults but jesus, do does Ferguson and Mourinho and if you want to add the far Spanish waiter, he is not having a good time now. Liverpool have not won the league in 20 years.
Get a reality check.
Geoff
Accrington Stanley won the league
I’d probably like to dominate like the mancs for 20 years then go tits up. I’ll be 71 then and wouldn’t really give a toss.
Sabeel, I get the impression you’d be happy for us to let our players contracts run down instead?
What a refreshing change to have the mancs destabilised by rumours from Spain.
* million
**don’t see
Geoff but we still made a record profit, thats what im saying utd and liverfool as a business are flawed. utd and liverfool will be in risk of meltdown we will still make a profit win or lose.
Its bollocks but as a team were good but as a business we are world class and to be fair if we got the players in the departments needed we would be world class on the pitch as well.
Its frustrating at times but arsenal is model of how a club should be run, all the players and wages spent winning cups with small financial incentives is short sited imo
.. and it’s not like we’re not bothering to sign players.
We’ve made a great signing in Sol and no one has said we’re finished yet.
Stunners, so what Theo is good at £60k a week for 4 games a season is he?
If everyone had our buy them young model, there wouldn’t be enough to go around, so then people would buy them for more, the same as they do now, see my point?
If everyone stopped spending then it would be great, we could get Dzeko for £7million.
But if Wenger stopped paying silly wages for unproved kids, perhaps we could afford to buy more players.
Anyone see that Arsenal cannot show reserve team games live now on ArsenalTV – what a joke. Gazidis needs to sort this out for the fans they pay £45 a year.
On the extending contracts thing –
I think we probably are being overly cautious and offering players new longer contracts too quickly. However, I think Wenger has been incredibly annoyed over the past 4 seasons when just when things look like clicking we lose some of the players fundamental to that and have another period of rebuilding (eg flamini and hleb – would have been interesting to see what would have happened had they stayed). By signing these players up longer term it ensures they are less likely to bugger off and leave the team needing to re-adjust yet again. for the younger players it means that those who have obviously been deemed talented enough are tied to the club for the future as well, some of the young players don’t seem to have had such contract offers coming their way and i’d expect a bit of a clear out this summer because of it.
The club is probably going to far with these extensions and probably paying too much in doing so but I think it’s an attempt to grow the team long term and not let anything interfere with that, whether it pays off who knows but Wenger obviously believes in it.

Great reason to sign experience!
off out!
Geoff
I bet you wished it was £60 a week
Pedro
I am against extending contracts “unnecessarily” other than the Most Imp players in our club like Fabregas,RVP..
If we WIN trophies then from the prize money, extend the contracts of others, otherwise Why KILL the transfer budget “Unnecessarily” is what my main concern is…
Extending contracts to not-much-proven-players has to be done from prize money,so that we can invest that same transfer money that goes into “unnecessary extensions” of contracts INTO getting some MUCH NEEDED experience (like Verminator type of signings),so that we have better chances of WINNING things…
Nick we made a profit because we sold more players than we bought, not because we have some magic business model.
Michael I said £60k a week, you need to go to SpecSavers!
helb going didn’t make that much diffrance as we signed naz he can do the same job but with goals flemini is the one that fucked us little shit read spurs are ready to make a move for him as his disgruntled in Italy we should sign him on loan for the rest of the season if thats the case imo hate the little shit but his what we need
Liverpool have not won the league in 20 years.
Get a reality check. But they have won the c.league and the fa cup while we have won fuck all, they also finshed 2nd last season when was the last time finished that high up
Anyone know what Wenger has said in his press conference today.
I personally expect Sol to be announced as signed tomorrow, perhaps with one other player.
Well we can all dream !!!
B.B.K. – big deal we won the Premier League unbeaten and loads of FA Cups when they were winning nothing. Do you want to swap places with Liverpool fans and have a sh*t team and out of all competitions bar the Platini League Cup?
So you did Geoff. I do indeed need to go to specsavers
BBK.. I think its even more heartbreaking to be finishing second than 3rd or 4th!
Geoff we have you pay the most to watch us thats got to help profits a few mill a home game.
When we sort out the sponsorship deals getting them in line with what they should be and as we seem to have fallen behind in the marketing department in general the model can get better and the signs are the board are addressing this im happy with where the club is.
This ain’t all ways the case but for today the world is good
Geoff,
Theo’s been out injured and I’m not using this as an excuse. When was the last time he had a run of 15-20 games in a row? It’s very easy to judge a player who is on the treatment table for a long period. Re: his £60k wages, it’s only a matter of time when he will start showing his worth. Tell me, why Joe Cole is always injured but he is still getting paid £110k a week by the Chavs. Same goes for ManU’s Hargreaves and Pool’s Aquilani. See my point?
Nick, in fact you’ll see that the commerical side of Arsenal has expanded greatly and its now turning into a true business. A Marketing director was announced yesterday. Its a good step forward.
Geoff –
Theo for £60k a week has been appalling value thus far this season. Has he stayed fit then he could have been excellent value as he looked pretty good at the end of last season. Some you win some you lose, bit of a bugger it hasn’t worked out thus far this term.
Gts they aint just got massive pay rises for doing not much
We have to pay more than Madrid and Milan combined, our sponsorship deals are shit, but I told them that at the time, so now Gazidas is bringing in fuck knows how many people at fuck knows what cost and that’s Ok.
Why didn’t Wenger take the fall for shit deals when he wants the credit for everything else?
The money Gazidas is spending we could have bought a few players with, this is a football fucking club, not corporate USA or the MLF.
I dont know why we keep using this nice bate about flamini
the only thing we lost from flamini is the transfer money and Even if Flamini has 3 more yrs on contract,he would have ANYWAY gone out of club, becos he would be offered more by FAT salary from other club..
point is,we DIDNT replace flamini and suffered like shit…WHY?? ASK WENGER…we lost more midfielders too..but still nothing happened to fight in that seasons
its like wengers mentality…he would have said, great flamini, hleb, gilberto and later diarra gone…Lets use this year to experience of denilson, diaby, song etc….INSTEAD of using denilson, diaby, song on part time with some much needed experience along with Nasri he bought….
which ultimately killed our chances of FIGHT in the season
Because he wouldn’t have had anything to do with negotiating the sponsorship deals perhaps Geoff?!
I don’t get this credit thing, when things go right he says it’s the players, when they go wrong he blames luck, the ref, or himself, never the players, it’s just that things havn’t gone right for a long time, so he’s taken the stick for it all
Sabeel
“I am against extending contracts “unnecessarily” other than the Most Imp players in our club like Fabregas,RVP..

——-
the trouble is it’s all very well saying save money on wages and sign some big names but those big names also need paying as well as being bought so it doesn’t really tally up.
As I said, i think we are being overly generous with contract extensions but i think there’s a good reason for it.
Geoff..
I have not read all the post, but in reference to your last comment, this football club, nay, every football club is following the road towards corporate america. Its a horrible truth, and the heart of the game we love is slowly dying.
But, its imperative to be at the forefront of the changing landscape, and that’s exactly what the excellent Gazidis will oversee
Kerrea Gilbert looks like he’s about to seal his move to Peterborough, good move for him, and for us, no idea how he’s managed to stay at the club for so long! Just a pity we can’t ship off Randall along with him.
BBK – that’s fine but over the past 20 years or 10 years, who’s won the most -
If Gerrard had been booked instead of given a penalty, If Dudek hadn’t somehow made that save, if that lineo had bnoticed the first Barca goal was offside you could have the opposite outcome if if if blah blah etc.
Of course Istanbul was an amazing thing and i know a Lpool fan who says going there weas the best thing he’s ever done but it’s not about occasional success against longer term consistent performance for me, anyway – I don’t think you’d find too many honest Scousers who’d say the last ten yars was a better time to be supportintg Lpool than Arsenal.
The question is is the team getting better and by how much (and maybe what can be done about the injuries)
I think it’s obviously better than last year and we’ll see about trophies.
Incidentally as a final opint on the finances thing, I thought the Lpool aren’t in trouble cos they can pay £25m for Chamakh based on a bit of paper talk was a bit unnecessary (oh look they’ve got that Maxi from Atletico for £0, at least they got someone, that 17 yr old captaining the Bolivian u20s doesn’t count) so I’m not going to say anything about the Rooney for sale stories but it will be interesting to see if they really turn into a selling club (I like Anderson, myself for anything under £10m and sensible wages – see in my world price is always important).
I asked a question last night that no one could give a reasonable response to;
Why have we got 7, yes 7, playmakers/number 10s at youth level at the club?
Why on earth do we need 7 playmakers?
Which 7 gambon?
Galvinio thats my point we are a good business and a good business recognizes when change is needed.
The invincible team of yesteryear was strong but the business was to small to push on, so we have used that success and money to evolve the business side move home and still stay in and around the top clubs on the field yes the team has had to persevere but over all has done well.
Most clubs would have spunked it on massive contracts and over hyped and priced players that would be coming to the end of their careers now leaving the club in the shit financially as the players have no resale value like chealsea’s situation
The business has grown and is geared to grow with the new success the team will bring to maximise the profit and be able to maintain the playing side at the highest level with out risking the clubs long term existence
A,
Funny you mentioned AW never blaming the players. There’re many examples where he has blamed the players this season. A few examples,
- We never looked sharp
- We didn’t play well in the 1st half / 2nd half
- We dropped the level in the last 30 mins
- We were not good in the final 3rd
- We didn’t take our chances
- We didn’t kill off the game
In all these quotes, ‘We’ is referring to Arsenal players.
Attacking football gambon.
We intend to score more than the opposition at every level.
I wouldn’t call that blaming the players Stunners, it’s always we, not they, sharpness is down to training, all of it can be said to be down to tactics, team selection etc.
That isn’t blaming anyone, it’s analysing the balance of the game, he doesn’t talk about the reasons for that.
Obviously when analysing the game he can’t talk about himself, he isn’t on the pitch!
A,
Merida, Barazite, Wilshere, Henderson, Ozyakup, Aneke & New buy Galindo.
Apart from Aneke theyre all on pro contracts.
Ridiculous waste of money.
geoff, those people being brought in by gazidis really won’t be on anything comparable to a football player’s wages and really will make not an ounze of difference to our overal wage budget, unless we’ve signed up the head of RBS that is, in which case ouch.
On the sponsorship side of things yes they are pretty poor but by having a guaranteed income stream over such a long term of the loan on the stadium it makes us a more appealing investment so allowing us to take on such loans at lower rates. It was a pay-off on that front, an annoying one and maybe we should have pushed harder for a better deal but it did allow us to move stadiums relatively pain free.
Sabeel, on the Flamini thing the only we lost was not just his transfer money we lost him as well. Had we signed him up early that probably wouldn’t have happened. No, we didn’t get a replacement in that season we used Song, who this season has shown us why that wasn’t such a stupid idea (sorry geoff), had we used him and others part time he may not be anywhere near ready for the first team.
A he took all the credit for the ground and now it’s killing us and he’s blaming the economy.
Each team should have a couple of playmakers, Ozyakup, Henderson, Aneke are still youth players, Aneke will still be a youth player next season! Ozyakup maybe too?
Barazite, Wilshere, and Merida are first team squad members/reserve players
Galindo hasn’t actually been signed yet….
I think you’re looking for a problem that doesn’t actually exist there!
Geoff why do you think the ground is killing us??
Did he Geoff? I don’t remember him personally taking the credit for the ground?
I wouldnt be at all surprised if the club have many more property projects planned, and if Wenger had a share in the property company himself.
Hes probably looking to generate a nice retirement pay day all while earning £6m pa for not winning anything.
Gambon,
I’d imagine some will be shipped off this summer, Barazite and maybe merida leaving are the ones most likely imo.
We have so many as not all of them will make it, however, if one of them turns into a Cesc style superstar then paying 7 of them £1k a week each for a bit seems like a real bargain compared to the £80m it would cost to buy such a player. Those players will also be more loyal to Arsenal long term as well so that’s nice.
Geoff, Apologies mate by if we were in Highbury we could not compete with the top teams in the Champions League not provide other fans the chance to go to the game, the staidum is not the problem. Its a 10 year plan.
Arse&Nose, it’s not their salaries, it’s their overheads that cost.
I’m in marketing and said at the time the 15 year naming rights deal was a joke, the 8 year shirt deal was a joke and the Nike deal was a joke.
They backed Edleman and when they too realised it was a joke, they sacked him.
So how long do they give Ivan and his overhead before they realise they have made another howler.
You have to have a squad in each age group gambon, we don’t have too many playmakers in any age group. Just because we need first team signings doesn’t mean we just don’t both having an u18 or u16 team!
Galvinho yes we could, we were debt free and competing very nicely, we had won two doubles as well.
As for competing, well we can’t now can we???
£1k a week….lol, yeah they choose us over Madrid/Utd/other clubs for £50k pa.
The point is 90% of the clubs planning and energy goes into youth, which is exactly the opposite of what it should be.
Geoff – Don’t suppose you’ve got any work experience type positions opening in your work anytime soon?!
Gambon
he answer is , because we already have cesc , nasri ,diaby , arshavin , rosicky and ramsey
six is not enough , you need thirteen !!
you clearly don,t need a striker and a good goalie
the answer , sorry gambon
gambon the kids aren’t paid much more than that. Gilbert has been on a pro contract for a good while, and I know that he doesn’t earn more than £2k a week
Geoff didn’t you need a new punch bag
http://www.sportspromedia.com/notes_and_insights/_a/angus_kinnear_is_doing_things_the_arsenal_way/
an old article but mentions some interesting figures about the ground, he’s also the guy who’s just been promoted to the marketing director.
As for more property projects gambon, I’d be amazed. We had 2 projects on the go as part of the stadium move. At the time it was looking like the rise in property prices would last long term and it was suggested that the profit from highbury square could actually pay-off ashburton. As it turned out the economy went to shit and it’s just about paid for itself, bit of an arse. That was the only reason we were involved in property at all, to suggest otherwise is simply stirring thigns up to find fault with the board and wenger.
Geoff, the game has moved on…we need to plan ahead not get stuck like the Evertons, Spurs and Liverpools of this world with a stadium that cannot bring in any cash not provide other fans a chance to see games. I loved Highbury but the Emirates makes sense, I don’t care about short term gain I ensured the Stewart Houston years.
I meant endured!
Galvinho
Funny cos we used to win trophies and get to CL finals when at Highbury.
Now we’re at the Emirates we dont win anything.
But im sure Wengers pay is significantly higher now!
A, funny enough I am taking a girl on in March 2 weeks from 6th form college, (a clients daughter) trouble is I have nothing to give her as we are so quiet.
If you need some advise I’m happy to help but as we have no volume it’s difficult to offer anything.
Email me and we can have a chat.
stan is a property developer and all the arsenal boards are bankers (merchant as well
) and well connected so i expect the arsenal holdings to evolve into a building/developer firm full time in some guise.
Gambon, The debt is a hindrance for the short term…the long term gain is significant. We won things at Highbury due to Wenger mate not the Stadium.
Gambon-
“£1k a week….lol, yeah they choose us over Madrid/Utd/other clubs for £50k pa.
The point is 90% of the clubs planning and energy goes into youth, which is exactly the opposite of what it should be.”
————
ok first point, youth players will be on about that if they are well paid, some of West Hams’ first team are on £3.5k a week for god sake, not all players are paid as much as the papers would have you believe.
I’d disagree with your second point and the percentages involved but would suggest that a healthy proportion of the clubs planning and energy is focused on Arsenal’s future and long term success, which is exactly what I’d hope the club was doing.
Geoff i can give her something to keep her occupied if the pays right
Galvinho, the Emirates generates massive amounts of cash, that’s us my friend and they have to understand, without us, they are wankered, they need to deliver success, we’re delivering the money.
All I see is Theo buying his 21 year old bird a Ferrari, what has he done, apart from been given a shed load of money by a benevolent manager who takes it off us.
Houston didn’t do that.
Yeah that’s cool Geoff, I’ll give you an email, is your email address on the right hand side somewhere?
Grovers I have to go, back later!
A yes, or Pedro’s, same deal!
Nick
Funny , that went thru my mind too .
AndAPrayer
I think you yourself not sure what u want? as u sound both “for” and “against” for it…
whats wrong with paying the experienced people ? u will earn & more, that back if we win in the prize money, with the increased chances of winning…
AndAPrayer
If we had signed Flamini,he would have still gone
Becos if one player has made up his mind to leave,U CANNOT STOP him, like Alonso.
its then better to sell the disgrunted player than have one..
Flamini ONLY used it as a an excuse that they didnt offer deal stuff,so that he could not be seen as a traitor
on SONG,Yes we used him,i say we should him also, but on on FULL TIME at that time, but with rotating song with some experienced better quality at that time..
and mind u verminator type of signings has proved,we ddont need to break bank to get GOOD players,as it is a team sport
AndAPrayer Gilbert has been on a pro contract for a long time, and the most he could be on is £2k per week.
I know that because Peterborough Utd have been trying to sign him, and now looking like they will, but their internal wage limit is £3k a week. When they offered for him in November the deal didn’t happen because he wanted too much money, and they had offered him much more than he’s already being paid, but he wanted to more than double his current wages.
jules just shows perverted minds think alike
Ah ok, thanks alot Geoff, toodles.
laters Geoff and happy new year fella
Birmingham manager Alex McLeish is considering a fresh approach for Red Bull Salzburg striker Marc Janko. The 26-year-old, who is 6ft 5in and has scored 67 goals in 92 games for his Austrian club, is available for £6.5m.
Apart from being healthy and not speaking French, perfect?
I’m desperate for us to sign Saha Ray!
Geoff-
“As for competing, well we can’t now can we???”
———
Yes we can, against nearly every club in the world. We certainly compete on the pitch with everyone, hence our standing in the table this season and continued involvement with 2 club competitions.
There are, however, some clubs who it would be suicide to compete with financially. Chelsea and Man City have seemingly bottomless pockets while Man Utd have borrowed in an attempt to compete on that front.
Real Madrid and Barca also spend big, the former more so obviously. they do this largely because of the tv rights system in Spain and also because they have already got incredibly large stadiums. To try and compete on an ongoing basis with the revenue stream from highbury would just not have worked, Ashburton bring’s in so much more and once it is paid off then all of that income can be spent as the club see fit, in the mean time the debt needs repaying which is a shame but short-term pain for long term gain and all that.
RE youth wages, I’d imagine the first pro contracts players sign are around the £2k mark, then when they’ve proven they’re gonna be around for a little while, they get improved terms.
AndAPrayer
The debt is no hindrance to spending money.
In the last 4 years we have gone from £0 to £140m in the bank, so clearly the debt is marginal.
I just cant for the life of me think of a single reason why he is so scared to buy senior players, he didnt used to be.
I just dont think he cares about winning anymore, he cares about his project.

I do know what I want and that’s the continued success of arsenal both now and in the future. My point wasn’t that we should definitely sign players up or that we shouldn’t, it also wasn’t pro or anti big name signings, merely that big name signings aren’t a guarantee of success (both on the pitch and financially) and that arguing that reducing player wages will free up enough money for transfers isn’t strictly correct. As I have stated above repeatedly, I think we are probably being overly cautious in signing players up at the moment but that I can also understand why.
Re Flamini, I disagree, I think had he been tied down earlier he would have stayed. I agree that had he gone on to decide to leave that ultimately we couldn’t have stopped him but had been signed up I feel he would have been a lot less likely to make such a decision. This is a personal take on both our parts and probably won’t lead anywhere as a long term discussion so let’s just agree that I’m right :p
A
Theo & JW were both straight in on £10k pw. Id also imagine the likes of Ozyakup, Merida, Nordveit are the same as they were heavily in demand.
Either way, the ratio of young;experienced players is way too unbalanced.
I have no problem buying great kids, but buying great kids while Eboue plays regularly in MF & Denilson plays 45 games per season is reckless.
Hello Grovers,
Anybody know how much debt weve still got to pay off?
A… Im with you on saha, you think theres any real chance of it happening though?
Arsenal could remove their trademark white sleeves from their home kit as they celebrate the 125th anniversary of the club in 2011 by replicating shirts worn by the club’s founding fathers.
Founded by workers at the Woolwich Arsenal Armament Factory, and taking the name Dial Square, the sociable amateurs played their first game in December 1886 before quickly adopting the name ‘Royal Arsenal’ and acquiring in 1895, from former Nottingham Forest players, a set of red jerseys.
It is believed that kit manufacturers Nike, in conjunction with the Gunners board, are keen to highlight the historical significance of the dark red shirts although it is as yet unknown whether the kits will be worn for an entire season or for a one off occasion. Given the success of the all maroon shirts, worn to celebrate the last year at former stadium Highbury, it is thought that a more long-term option could be adopted to maximise revenue.
It was only in 1925, and the arrival of legendary manager Herbert Chapman, that the famous white sleeves were added to the red shirts to give the dashing effect which has since become Arsenal’s trademark style.
North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur sported a special shirt to celebrate their own 125th anniversary in 2007 when they played in a half sky blue, half white shirt during their 4-4 draw against Aston Villa. Interestingly the Lilywhites did themselves sport red shirts between 1890-96 but appeared to quickly change to white, via a two year flirtation with brown, when the Gunners adopted the colour.
A re your conversation with Geoff, what are u into?
Atom really??? saha was good but his always injured we have enough of them types of players average and healthy beats great but always injured in my book with time admittedly more then usual amounts in songs case has shown with regular playing time average can get better injury prone just gets worse saha can stay away imo
How do you know that gambon? Theo I’m sure was on a decent wedge, but I’d imagine Wilshere was on a normal youth contract, which is why it was then renewed shortly after.
In the first team certainly, there is an unbalance, especially with those fit.
To complain about youth players is very strange though, the likes of Ozyakup, Nordveit are at every club, and wouldn’t be on bigger wages than at any other club.
Merida, Theo, Wilshere are special cases so would probably be on a bit more.
“I have no problem buying great kids, but buying great kids while Eboue plays regularly in MF & Denilson plays 45 games per season is reckless.”
Those things are totally independent of each other though.
If we hadn’t bought great kids, we’d still have the same people playing regularly, it isn’t one or the other. The Academy pays for itself, and its purchases, with player sales from it’s own graduates.
It’s when you look at the first team that there are choices that had/have to be made.
It’s buying a Nasri for £12 mil, or a £12 mil player at his peak, who would have an immediate bigger impact than Nasri, but will never become world class.
Same with Denilson, we could’ve gotten a player who was immediately better for the £4 mil, but who Denilson will be much better than in a couple of years.
Nick where have u been?

Interim Accounts will be out soon, to give you a rough idea.
Stadium £245m
Highbury Square – not sure on the figure but we will make a profit on this, the debt is paid off from sales anyway, whatever debt is left (probably very little) doesnt affect what we can spend.
There are some long term Debentures as well, this isnt worth considering as its £25m with ultra long term repayment.
So basically its £245m for the stadium which we pay £20m per season for.
We have £140m in the bank (likely) so our net debt should be £130m (if we ignore the stadium debt)
Which conversation Franchise? Job wise?

———
In itself no it is not a hindrance but there still needs to be some money available should it no go as planned. Having a mortgage doesn’t mean I can’t go on holiday but I still try to keep some money there none the less incase I lose my job. The same with Arsenal, with a slush fund available the debt can be repaid whatever happens (for a period) that gives the club some breathing room. What level that should be at I don’t know but it would largely depend on how risk averse the club are and what the debt repayments and terms of those agreements may be. I also really do believe that we are going to try and shift the debt off more quickly than we have to (repayment structes allowing), it we cut into short term spending but will put the club in a far stronger position long term.
I’d also suggest that he isn’t scared of buying senior players at all. In the last 3 transfer windows we have ahd TV, Arshavin and Nasri brought into the club. I can’t think of a single window in Wenger’s time at the club when he has actually bought in loads of senior players, this is also true of nearly all other clubs with Chelsea Man city and Real being the obvious exceptions.
I appreciate that this is a patronizing point of view but I really do believe that SSN and the boom in football blogging has lead to an incorrect assumption that we some how get less senior players now than we used to.
AndAPrayer
Ha Ha Ha..
Then i would say “Same to You”
i read ur comments, and see that u r bringing and explaining all those things, for example ur comment 14.25,so manu more on those lines..so much explanation..
and my answer is that, simple,as i gave to Pedro at 13.39, i put it down here for convinience
Surely all this can be done..and we have increased chances of winning things..
Arsenal Tom I really could see it happening. Everton sold Neil to Galatasaray, so need a centre back. Senderos wants to leave us, so that makes sense. They have Vaughan back from a long term injury, just brought in Donovan, Jo should be available soon, and Yakubu (although he’s at the African Nations) so they do have other forwards, and could let Saha go without having to purchase anyone.
Then there’s the fact that they don’t have much money, so face losing Saha on a free, and having to pay a decent fee to sign a new centre back, or they could get a centre back for free, along with a small transfer fee.
Maybe I’m just trying to rationalise it all out of hope, but it does make some sense!
franchise how you doing buddy?
Loads to sort out this year and more on its way, looks like im going self employed by taking the company I work for over SHITTING MY SELF but nothing ventured nothing gained.
Brake in the load today so thought I would SEE whats happening in the world of Le Grove and the mighty Arsenal
We have spent at least 10 mill on youth players in Jan itself.
Yeah A job wise
Thanks,Gambon.
A
Theyre not independent though. Once the 1st team is sorted you should look at the youth team, we only seem to look at the youth team.
For example, you get paid £100 per week, do you spend it on food etc or pay into a pension?
As a club we pay more into a pension than we should, while ignoring the food we need to eat right now.
Hope you get the analagy.
Currently looking to get some work experience, preferably in marketing or finance but currently anything would do really. What line of work are you in?
frans a pimp
Saha??? he is just another Man U reject, what makes anyone think he is good enough for us?
OK guys,if you were managers how much wages would you pay a week for a youngster youve bought,or from the academy?
choy how do you work out we’ve spent that much?!
gambon they are independent, the football club encompasses a number of ages, and different costs, not just the first team.
That analogy doesn’t work though.
A more apt analogy would be you get x amount per week, do you spend it on food, or do you spend it on drink. Just because you want some nice food, doesn’t mean that you don’t need to drink, and vice versa.
As Banfield said we’ve generated over £50 mil in recent years from the youth academy, the player sales from the youth team pays for any transfer fees for youth players brought in.
Just because you need first team players doesn’t mean you scrap the youth teams, or every other arm of the club! They all have to be kept going.
Nick… yeah mate, i think he’s quality, i know he’s injured allot but at the moment we need to be look short term which make him ideal… we need cover while bendy beds back in and RVP gets fixed up, when robins back they can fight it out, plus he can play in europe, plus if nick can play on the right im sure saha could… if it really doesnt work out we can move him on and get our money back in the summer.
A… i had the same trail of thought mate but seems a bit too logical for our club!
Because he’s scored 10 league goals this season in a struggling side timao, only 5 players have scored more, and he’s proven quality?!
Saha isn’t a(n?) Utd reject – he was allowed to leave because of his injury problems, nothing to do with his quality.
Now at Everton he’s gotten over them and featured in 18 of their 20 league games this season, and been one of the best forwards in the league.
Nick thats good. Men good luck to you. I might be calling you soon for tips
A im into Software development, i would see what the program is here for internships and all that
Small sized company with too much work
the work force has increased by over 400% in a few months
Sabeel -
while I am in agreement that extending contracts with improved wages eats into the transfer budget (although we don’t know the details of these and without improved wages then it merely ties that outgoing to a longer period than effects that years available funds) my point on is that not doing this would be insufficient to pay for new signings in itself. The reduced wage demand will pay for some of the new players wages but the transfer fee still needs to be found as well as any extra the new player gets in comparison to the savings.
Before you say it, I agree that it probably could be found but it needs to be the right player. This, however, happens anyway with players like TV being brought in while contract extensions for others are agreed.
Choy –
“We have spent at least 10 mill on youth players in Jan itself.” what players have we brought in totalling that? Wellington and the bolivian guy are the only ones I can think of, otherwise its wage increases that aren’t going to paid in one lump sum are they.
forgot to add Nick. Im doing great and Im ‘SINGLE’ now
loving it
A
But the Mens senior team makes up for 98% of the importance of a club.
Yet we sign more U18 players than senior. We are one of the only top flight clubs anywhere in the world who make a transfer profit. Why?, we spend less (net) than the likes of Fulham, Everton, Bolton, which is an utter joke & completely unnecessary.
Wenger always talks about balancing the budget being important, which is bullshit.
Well if there is anything available I’d be very interested Franchise, pretty rare to find a company with too much work and expanding their workforce at the moment!
i suggest these players, although i think they are unlikley to come:
-lisandro lopez
-fernando llorente
-edin dzeko
-karim benzema
-lukazs podolski
-balotelli
i really think those players would rock our fw line, just a thought
afternoon all Grovers….
Geoff…couldnt agree more..Thomas should get a chance…after a very good showing in the reserves..and he is a difficult player to play against..and Fabianski spot on..and its nice to know that we have Sol(muscles)back..
Vermaelen in midfield..i hope not..give eastmond another go…
Gambon -

While I like your analogy I think that your conclusion is incorrect. We have enough to spend on both and do. I’d also point out that we are 3 points off top spot at the half way point of the season and still in 2 cups. If we’re not eating well enough right now it’s because we’re on the Bollinger rather than the dom Perignon.
I agree gambon, and the Mens senior team makes up 98% of the costs of the club too!
We sign more u18 players, because all clubs do that, it’s just the rise of the internet, blogs etc that means we know about it all now! We don’t spend anywhere near as much money on the u18s as the first team
Timao, Saha would fit right in with silvest and campbell!
A.. we’ve extended contracts for eastmond, rhys, emmanuel thomas, lansbury, watt
Signed a couple of strikers, attackers for the youth team?
Gooby apart from Benzema I’d rather we signed Saha than any of the others.
yeah A u would be surprised how meny women actually pay for sex (Nick
)
just kidding
its a strange one A, most of our clients are from emerging Telecomm markets in Asia, Africa, Mexico and South America
yes also please factor in agent charges and you have at least 10 mill minimum.
we’ve not actually officially signed anyone choy. Wellington Silva is the only one we can be pretty sure we’ve signed, for around £2 mil. The others are just paper talk, Gallindo the latest, who would cost £500k, and if that happens then Zezinho isn’t, which was just rumours anyways.
Eastmond, murphy, JET, lansbury, watt are not going to be on massive contracts
A,
lisandro lopez is an amazing player too
Agent charges for who choy??!
Nowhere near £10 mil.
You’ve got maybe £3 mil at most, if the Wellington Silva deal is done!
AAP, but wheres the Crystal!
AAP/A
Put it this way.
Do you honestly think we cant improve this team by signing 4 top players, irrelevant of price. Lets say a GK, CB, CMF & CF?
Clearly AW could improve our squad, clearly we can afford it, so give me one reason why we shouldnt do it?
It makes no sense. Why would you want to have a squad that isnt as good as it could be.
Wellington is around 3.5 mill A.
Zezinho and Galindo are happening soon enough
AndaPrayer..
a quick reply to yesterdays comment..sorry for being so late…the fact that Song has been carefully monitored by wenger and groomed into being one hell of a player..is very true…well done wenger..
but then again to agree with everything wenger does when it comes to our youngsters…well that would be stupid…blind faith ..have never been very clever..
but admitting you had a fair point :
Gambon –
under 18s cost significantly less and they won’t all make the grade so buying more increases the chances of getting the good ones. Also the men’s first team while definitely being more important is also a lot more picky and has a lot less space for signings. No point bringing in 20 first team players 18 of whom won’t make the grade at that level but there is a point in doing so with youth.
Also your argument about transfer profits is largely answered by your previous point; by having a really world class youth setup it allows you to turn a profit on the transfers as you can sell players off and bring in a youth player just as good. The purpose of transfers isn’t to make a profit but if it happens to do so that’s no bad thing.
what about the salary A?
Eastmond, murphy, JET, lansbury, watt are at least on 5-10k a week contracts.
lol Franchise.
Well if you have an excess of work then get my email off Pedro, and I’ll send over my CV, see if there’s anything you think I could be suitable to help with!
le grove should start an employment agency
We’re looking for an assistant A
minimum wage
you don’t suppose Wellington does not have an agent?
im not a wenger fan…still the wellington buy ..must be seen as very clever buy,..that (kid) is sensational…nothing less
wellington silva was £3.5 total, around £2 paid now, the rest paid when he arrives in a years time.
watt will be on around £2k, it was his first pro contract, Murphy would be on similar, Lansbury, Eastmond, JET would probably be on a bit more, but it would certainly be under £10k. Still even if they were all on £10k, how is that spending £10 mil?!
choy agents get a cut of the transfer fee. Agent fees are included in transfer fees, not on top of.
Well thats the scousers fucked then Toress out for 6-8 weeks and gerrard 2-3 bye bye 4th spot and hello financial meltdown
Oh and they should both miss our game against em, will make a nice change as we always seem to play them when they are at full strengh, and we are missing half a side!!
Yeah SongtheGreat, I’ve not seen him play properly, but was chatting to the Brazil researcher for a computer game i’m a researcher on, and he said Wellington Silva really is one of the top top young Brazilians. Could well be our Pato!
Also that it’s crazy we got him for so little.
A what game??
What line of work are you in GM?!
yes but we also have to pay the agents of all the players who have signed contracts as well!
A, my mate is buddies with someone who got a pro contract at Spurs. He said as soon as you play your first game for them you get £15k a week.
I highly doubt we pay our young pros as little as £2k a week…
Gambon -
in order GK; CB; CMF; CF => yes; not really as i have no idea who would come in as back up (within a realistic wage structure) or if we’re looking for the first team then who would be better than gallas or tv; for one month yes but who would come in for one month, more long term you’re into a group of players of Essien or, um, maybe Yaya Toure (both of whom also not available for that month, what’s happened to the good european holding mids?); for 6 months yes but I’m genuinely a bit hard pressed who’d be better than RVP in our formation.
Now I know Wenger’s comments about bringing such players in killing younger players isn’t looked upon with glee here but if you were to do this then you could expect a lot of the younger players like Bendtner to leave. While this may not be a huge loss currently to the first team (although I do think he’ll go on to be really good) it will be pretty frigging hard to find replacement players to act as long term backup who are that good.
I dont see, where he plays A.
Vela, Rvp, Eddie, Walcott, Nasri, Wilshere, all fighting for the same spots
I’d rather not divulge that information Nick, a football management game.
Yeah choy we do, how much do you think they’d get paid, what do you think the commission is on a £5k-£10k contract?! maybe £1k?!
Not to mention the guy I know who played for Arsenal got a £50k signing on fee 10 years ago!
Nikki B as well.
Pedro –
that honestly sounds insane to me, Rob Green is only on £25k a week and he’s a seasoned pro, a regular at a premiership team and one often talked about in high esteem by those looking at goalies.
Pedro I know for a fact that Gilbert is on £2k max….
Well.. like he said.. we pay much more than 10k!
A… despite what people say about football manager, it’s an incredibly well researched game.
chippy… thats fucking beautiful news mate!!
and yossi out for a month!!!
i think the technical term is “well and truly fucked”
And arshavin choy
AAP
That is an awful transfer policy. You cant replace experience with youth cos a young team will never win a trophy.
This is the whole problem with the system boiled down to one line…..’Young teams dont win things’. I remember at the last world cup the commentator was talking about average ages of WC winning teams, and it falls within an extremely narrow band, to the point where you could discount a teams chances if it has an average age outside of this.
Also a youth policy & winning is totally unsustainable in the long term, as the only way to make the policy a sucess is to continually replace experience with youth, which will leave you perpetually missing out on trophies, remind you of any team in the last 5 years?
No players will wait until theyre 23 to break into a team, but they arent ready to consistently contribute at the highest level until then.
A… really? You know him personally?
A…
wenger has one big problem when it comes to the youngsters…he cant just pile em up,,and he is to slow to pick thoose who can make it..its been proven again and again..that the best teams have a fair balance between younger and older players..so havin two or three experienced players at an age where they are gettin close to retirement is important..then one could introduce younger players carefully and withoouth disrupting the balance…the way wenger does it now..makes us both soft and weaker than needed be…on the upside in ten years we maybe have that balance in the team..
Hard life isnt it only 2k a week
Choy,
while wages may have committed us to a spend of £10m (debatable) they are not the same as having actually spent £10m in january.
We pay the kids a lot, no wonder most of them want to come here, it is a well documented fact.
Tom, I know how Funny, Dont hate the fans just the ex players that have turned pundits like thomo etc they are all biased twats and are going to get what they deserve
Didnt see the Yossi Injury news thats made it even funnier as he was one of the only bright spots !!!!
I agree Pedro, obviously people shouldn’t go on a game like football manager for judging players, but those who put the data in will have watched players alot, and they generally try and get people who seem to have a very sensible head on their shoulders when it comes to analysing players.
Relative unknowns, who are awesome on football manager, often come out of nowhere and do very well. Though there are always those who don’t! Ibrahima Bakayoko was one of the best players in the world on one of the old Champ Mans, then he arrived at Everton and was terrible!
A, I buy your logic re: Saha…would also like to see him join, but, following your logic, he wouldn’t be too expensive if Senderos went the other direction.
and it’s not exclusive with getting Janko, who is cheap enough to be on AW’s radar.
Janko would add something new — that we desperately need — and would still be a valuable addition when RvP & B52 are fit again
Saha would add something that we need right now, but long term would only add more of what we already have…though still be a useful addition to the team
Probably for 10 million we could have both, and add plans B & C and best of have AA playing to his strengths
Put it this way, Merida was ordered to pay Barca £2m personally. A court would never make someone pay what they just dont have.
Theres a clue to the kind of sign on fees & wages we pay kids.
Apparantly Ramsey went straight on £17k pw at the age of 17.
Gambon –
“That is an awful transfer policy. You cant replace experience with youth cos a young team will never win a trophy.”
————
that sounds remarkably like a certain mr hansen when referring to Man Utd.
A, that’s because he lied about his age!
That same game predicted the emergence of Thierry, Trezeguet and Bobby P!
yes.. where will that youth striker get his chance?
No Pedro, don’t know him personally, but have first hand info about his dealings at Peterborough Utd, and although I don’t know the exact values for him, they don’t have any player on more than £3k a week, and when they offered him a contract in November, they were increasing his wage significantly, but he wanted to more than double it, which would have gone over the £3k barrier.
It got too complicated for me after 98…
AndAPrayer, if you actually look at the team UTD played, they had only a couple of youngsters.
AAP
I knew someone would mention that.
Check out how young that team was. It really wasnt very young, 5 kids who played a squad role, and they were all 20/21 ish, not 17.
gambon Merida and Cesc were special cases, though Merida didn’t have £2mil in the bank, we paid that, not him!
Ramsey is also a special case, being signed to come into the first team squad, very different from kids getting their first contracts having come through the academy, who aren’t in the first team.
Yeah Pedro, Ronaldinho too, Cristiano Ronaldo
AndAPrayer
U have pro and cons in any strategy, but the one i am mentioning with my comment at 13.39,atleast increases our chances of winning..
U say this happens with VM type of signings, and thats exactly the point,we need to do it couple more times i guess, which we arent doing it,which will take us “from just competiting for the league” to “More likelyhood of winning league” in past 4-5 yrs…
Pedro
Just after u went,i left a reply post to u at 13.39 in the earlier context that we were discussing
That interest has reportedly continued into this transfer window, and Toure admits that he would like to play in England’s top flight one day.
“I was disappointed and never understood why [Arsenal manager Arsene] Wenger did not want to close the deal,” he told Spanish newspaper Marca, referring to the potential deal in 2005.
“But one day I would like to play in the Premier League.”
A.. how is that we have the third highest wage bill in the country?
The Observer:
1) Liverpool has the highest number of players on the payroll – 62 no.
2) ManLeeds and Arsenal has over 50 players on the payroll.
3) Chelski has 46 no.
4) Bolton has the least – 27 no.
Yeah same for me to an extent Pedro, still get and play the games, but every year that a new one has come out in recent times the only change has been clicking more things to tell the assistant manager to do for me. Training, press conferences etc, adds realism but far too much hassle!
Incidentally, Wellington Silva is amazing on Football Manager!
Pedro
how can i change my gravatar picuture here…
AndAPrayer..
for sveral seasons now it has been very clear that wenger’s team has been to unexperienced and suffered from that…heck he evens admitted it himself…and youngsters doesnt have the capability to perform week out week in…look at Ramsey..brilliant one week..not very good the next..
so my question ..why would anyone put a team together knowing that it is weaker than necessary…im baffled…and annoyed..i think im not alone in claiming that 2-3 top notch players would have made us a damned fine team…and heey the youngsters would have loved it too….
and what did bartley say today..i can learn from (Sol) well proves my point…
Franchise,
what Domain of Software development are on u..
I cant remember where i read it but a pro contract would see a player easily earn 10k a week
danny wellbeck is on like 15k a week apparently
We pay over 100 mill a year on player wages.
No idea choy, although the papers report it all as facts, they’re all still just estimations, clubs present their accounts different, include (or not) different things etc etc.
Sabeel the company I work for specialises in LBS – location based services. google it
Wilshere, too is apparently on 15k a week.
Sabeel, there is always a reason to extend a contract, otherwise it wouldn’t be extended.
Gambon -
“A court would never make someone pay what they just dont have.”
—–
really? not sure that’s actually true now is it, otherwise noone would ever go bankrupt.
SongtheGreat -
“wenger has one big problem when it comes to the youngsters…he cant just pile em up,,and he is to slow to pick thoose who can make it..its been proven again and again..that the best teams have a fair balance between younger and older players..so havin two or three experienced players at an age where they are gettin close to retirement is important..then one could introduce younger players carefully and withoouth disrupting the balance…the way wenger does it now..makes us both soft and weaker than needed be…on the upside in ten years we maybe have that balance in the team..”
———-
it was an acitve decision to go down the youth route to make the stadium move more affordable and Wenger has been interviewed on the subject several times. I’d agree that it does leave us weaker than would be ideal and but it made the stadium move go through financially, the team has always achieved champs league and it looks like over the next decade Arsenal will be blessed with a very strong first team because of it. while trophies are nice, when put like that I can see why Wenger considers it his biggest achievement.
Lacina Traore is also very good on Football Manager, usually ends up at Barca
AAP, if you’re made bankrupt, you’re debt is absolved…

We paid it, but the court ordered Merida himself to, they had no legal recourse against us.
The fact that we paid it is irrelevant.
A the days of 2k a week are long gone. why do u think clubs detest agents?
wilshere was chased by an agency that was going to get him a lucrative contract with Inter Milan, do u think he stayed on to receive like 5k a week and play reserve football?
Players certainly don’t cross borders for £2k a week!
The hypocrite a.k.a Mr.Wenger changes his philosophies according to his crazy whims and fancies. If he doesnt recruit a quality player,we will win nothing this season.Bastard is saving the transfer money, for his no spending bonus. What a mug!
To end this debate, A we pay a lot of money to the youngsters, probably the highest in the country.
Gilbert has been at the club for a number of years and is on more or less £2k a week!! Why would he be on so much less than everyone else?! Our top top kids, the Wilsheres/Ramseys/Meridas will be on a fair bit more, but our standard pro contract for kids will be around that much.
How much is wenger on?
100k a week?
Jaguar have you signed some sort of agreement whereby you have to include the word “hypocrite” in every post?
AAP
Bankrupcy is when youcant pay your creditors. It has nothing to do with courts fining you.
A
Yes he has, it was a long term deal at £30k pw
Soon to be announced on Arse.com
when talking about 2k a week, why not just say 100k a year, so everyone can put it into context.
Or 15k a week is 750k a year. Not bad for a teenager.
Pedro
I dont think extending all of 17 players contracts had any reasons of nature of “Emergency” reasons
as i mentioned earlier
I am against extending contracts “unnecessarily” other than the Most Imp players in our club like fabregas,RVP..
Extending contracts to not-much-proven-players has to be done from prize money,so that we can invest that same transfer money that goes into “unnecessary extensions” of contracts INTO getting some MUCH NEEDED experience (like Verminator type of signings),so that we have better chances of WINNING things…
as i mentioned earlier,
Sabeel –
U have pro and cons in any strategy, but the one i am mentioning with my comment at 13.39,atleast increases our chances of winning..
U say this happens with VM type of signings, and thats exactly the point,we need to do it couple more times i guess, which we arent doing it,which will take us “from just competiting for the league” to “More likelyhood of winning league” in past 4-5 yrs…
——–
while your strategy may increase the chances of winning it if it doesn’t work it also leaves us with potentially a significantly smaller squad. On the Verm style signings, looking at Arsenal’s first team:
GK
Sanga,TV,Gallas,Clichy
Song
Diaby, Cesc
Rosicky, RVP, Arshavin
(my take on it, not the point of the debate)
who would you replace and with whom?
Franchise,
Marcotti, critically acclaimed sports journalist and winner of multiple industry awards was on record as stating that some of the West Ham first team are on £3.5k a week. Much though I agree that some youth players will be on big salaries by no means is that all of them.
Choy-
doesn’t the £100m annual wage bill also include the entire Arsenal staff not just players?
2009 accounts summary (million pounds)
—————————–2009—————-2008
Total wages—————- 104.0————- 101.3
Additions to intangible assets (player registrations) —————41.3————— 27.5
Profit on sale of player registrations
—————————–(23.2)———— (26.5)
Net expenditure ————122.1————– 102.3
Mark C.. when you think that we could have given that to flamini and he might have stayed!
When you have more kids to take care of.. yes you will have to employ more staff
agreed Choy..
and we also have the best youngsters in the country by far…so if one accept the fact that wenger chooses to walk the path of developing Arsenal in this fashion…well then he is doing a great job..
me im seing Arsenal as one of the best teams in the world..and in my eyes this project youth..is just wrong ..Arsenal should always try to be as strong as they can be…and it leaves me with a bitter taste when w know that we could be so much stronger…buying experience and class..wenger used to do just that…he’s changed and let us down..
The only reason why Mr.Wenger extends the contracts is that he wouldnt need to spend anything on quality players, and blame injuries come every May,for not winning anything. And on top of it,the bastard,is going after every fucking kid,as if we are a nursery chasing the best of affluent kids.
Sabeel the money to extend their contracts will come from the player sales of last year’s youth players, not from the first team transfer kitty.
A fair few of them HAD to be extended too because they were expiring, for others it was time for their first pro contract.
The contract signings were more or less all necessities, not throwing money away.
Sabeel,
just out of interest when is it necessary to extend a contract? when it’s about to run out may well be too late and the player may feel that there performances thus far haven’t been adequately rewarded thus more likely to leave.
As I said I agree that the club may be too proactive in this area at the moment but as Pedro says there will be reasons for it whether you consider them valid ones or not.
it cost £41.3m for player registrations up to may 2009
jeez
Sabeel, you make out it one or the other… extended contracts or players.
That’s not the case.
Give me a team full of players tied down any day of the week. One seasons failure is another seasons star man (Flamini).
who are the 17? Can’t think
Rosicky
Lansbury
Murphy
JET
Watt
Wilshere
??????
in 1 year it cost £41.3m
football is gone crazy
Liverpool really are buggered – Torres having knee surgery and out for 6 weeks!
Gibbs
Diaby
Song
Eduardo
Bendtner
RVP
Walcott
We have 50 plus players on our payroll.
All necessities?
Theo, Diaby, Bends, Denilson, Song, Rambo
Oh yeah, forgot about them, that’s 13
pretty much choy, when they aren’t they’re sold
AndAPrayer
My points were more on history of last 4 years including this year…
My point is where are the “Good Experienced Quality” backups ?
Do consider the phrase “Good Experienced Quality backups”..
i dont think Denilson,Vela,Walcott, wilshere,Ramsey, senderos,Silvestre FALL in this category
example We sold Ade and didnt replace him with someone..look what happens now,we would be leading a league,if not for this striker crisis we have..
we have clearly NOT learned our lessons…
Winnign titles is ALL ABOUT HAVING GOOD SQUAD..Period i feel..and i am not saying expensive backups, someone who is just Good enough to do the job with experience, and it doesnt break the bank…VM signings proves that
Choy, we can afford them. So what’s the problem?
You can’t have a team of 50 world class players. You have to fill the teams with players don’t you otherwise the good ones would have no one to play for?
helb flemini (merida, gallas) edu wiltord all left for nothing because they ran down the contracts so its good to tie them down for as long as possible imo but choose the right players for the right money is all. if gallas dont sign dont play him or get rid now and buy replacement now. His and merida need sorting asap not the others for now.
A spokesperson confirmed on the club’s official website: “Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres both underwent scans earlier today.
“Steven has a hamstring strain and will be out for a fortnight, while Fernando has torn a cartilage in his right knee.
“The injury will require surgery and he is expected to be sidelined for six weeks.
“Yossi Benayoun also suffered a fractured rib in the game and will be unavailable for between three and four weeks.”
The FA Cup elimination ensures the sole competition left for Liverpool to fight for is the inaugural edition of the Europa League. They are currently in 7th place in the Premier League, five points behind Manchester City – who are in fourth.
I doubt there is a first team budget.
Wenger gets his transfer kitty and he decides to spend it how or when he likes it or not.
AAP
Bankrupcy is when youcant pay your creditors. It has nothing to do with courts fining you.
——–
it has everything to do with court findings against you, if you are ordered to pay damages that is money you owe and hence a creditor. Example, I sell you a tv, you don’t pay and claim it is faulty, I take you to court and win you’re ordered to pay and go bankrupt because of it. Contract violations for services are no different just because there isn’t a physical item involved.
The court is also the place where bankruptcy filings are made so to become bankrupt (unless voluntary) then you need to have a court order against you.
Sabeel, who do you imagine would want to come in as a ‘good’ back up?
A
I’ve got a hairdressing salon. That’s why I always disappear without notice making women look beautiful (or less ugly)

Wenger has the nous but dont spend the cash

could we get a clone of benitez and wenger?
Benger
Wengitez

Eduardo
Walcott
Murphy
Watt
Rosicky
Wilshere
Lansbury
Diaby
JET

That’s 15
A,Pedro
pls see my comment 15.46 for both ur points..my concern is all about good quality experienced backups who can do the job…
AAP, you can’t sue someone with no assets for money they don’t have, unless the intention is to bankrupt them.
Pedro.. we could’ve sacrificed or in (wenger’s words killed a couple of the young players) so that a couple of first team players bought in or in some cases, make them stay.
Sabeel, you’ve put Rambo, Theo, Vela, Denilson and Wilshere in your ‘not’ good category.
That is absurd.
GM could u give Pedro a free makeover? U spend most of your time here, a reward would be in line
a nice wig for DDM (shhhhhhh dont say nothing)
Ok Choy… that’s in the past. This is the now. Who are you looking to replace?
Geoff and myself are handsome enough
Those players which i am sure our scouts all around the world can find, those players who are good, experienced, and HAVE THE ASPIRATIONS TO PLAY FOR A BIG CLUB..
we shouldnt look at those players who are at BIG clubs, rather those who are like VM signings,at lesser clubs…those players will have the desire to play for Arsenal atleast for 3-4 yrs..till the youth comes into MORE EXPERIENCE..
Our wage bill include all staff and agent fees I believe.
The likes of Chelsea and Man U do not include manager wages (Wenger earns 5 mill a year) and all non playing staff – which could be another 5 mill.
I do however agree players are getting paid too much, especially average players, and injured players.
Does anyone know if we claim insurance against players who are not fit – long term injured.
Last point – not one player at Burnley earns more than 15k a week (750k a year)
“We sold Ade and didnt replace him with someone..look what happens now,we would be leading a league,if not for this striker crisis we have..”
You what sabeel?!?!
We’ve scored more goals up to this point than ANY team in the history of the Prem, if we still had Ade imo we certainly wouldn’t have.
We need a forward, but we don’t have a “striker crisis”, and scoring goals certainly isn’t the reason we’re not winning the league!!!!
Sabeel, who has aspirations to be second string?
I put them into the catergory of NOT SINGULARLY “NOT GOOD” CATEGORY
i put them into the category of combination of “GOOD + EXPERIENCED”..
if there is no experience,i am sorry they are not good enough backups for a LONG STRUGGLE of title push..
Sabeel -
“My points were more on history of last 4 years including this year…

until the last 4 years a good squad often didn’t really come into it, it was a combination of having a good first team that didn’t get injured too much and replacements that weren’t too much of a liability. Look at the actual squad we had when we won the league the last few times, beyond the first team there wasn’t that much depth, Cygan, Stepansov etc.
Chelsea changed that, they bought players of first team standard across the squad it worked but it cost them a fortune. such large first team player bases have since become more normal but the cost is incredibly high. While the Arsenal backup players you mentioned may not have the experience they are of significantly higher quality than most backup players across the country, certainly better than Man Utd and Liverpool’s.
Replace?
I just think we need players from the youth team that can step up when required.
But wenger doesn’t trust them enough does he?
Which again takes it back one full circle!
Pedro
people will not come only with aspirations of second string agreed, but they come to FIGHT for a place,Competition…and when they know they have a chance, they will come..
but i hope u do get the point of “experience + quality” in out backups..
Sabeel, you put Walcott in the not good category. Who would you sign?
You can’t just say half the squad is not good, then offer no solutions?
A
we have scored more goals, but recently we have dropped points mainly because we are not having a front man…and why is that becos we never replaced Ade..
It seems like you want to make our squad like Man Citys.
When you have backup players, who are as shit,as some of the first team players, you would still call it a very good back up.ie,When you have Eboue to replace Diaby in the left, its a very good back up,because, both are shit.
Jaguar, when you are as miserable as you are, you should seek anti depressants.
Or an all day Disney session.
Pedro,
Do “I” need to suggest names,
i am sorry, but i dont have time to watch so many leagues all over the world..so am not in a position to suggest lots of names
but i will say this,
Did we hear anything abt Verminator before signing him..
i believe in our network around the world,to get us such “Good + experienced” backups..
Things could be different at Arsenal at the moment, but how you can be so miserable when things like Glazer-gate or Liverpoolfuckupgate are going off is beyond me.
Good afternoon Pedro, Geoff and Le Grovers,
Sorry to go off topic (again) but I find it funny how quick many Gooners were to write off the FA Cup before the West Ham game but now United and Liverpool are out it takes on a massive importance!
Hmmmmmmmmm.
Sabeel, you do.
You can’t say our players are shite, then not suggest who is better and would be prepared to be good quality back up.
hello groovers,
“Just a quick point on the site in general but I’ve been trying to use it on my iphone and when there’s a mass of posts it takes an age to scroll down to the bottom of the comments, is there a button that does a go to end thing that I’m missing and if not could there be one please. Oh and the injury list needs updating.”
Same issue I have as well.
Also putting “#respond” at the end of the link does not work as well since iPhone’s Safari is stupid enough to reload the page instead of getting to the div with that id.
BUT if there was a link in the page that had “href=’#respond’” that seems to work since it works to get at the beginning of the comments.
Diaby upfront has been my thought for the past 2 weeks now. Let’s give it a fucking try, I really think he’ll terrorize em fuckers, he might even learn how to head in the process
Cheers fellas
Pedro –
“AAP, you can’t sue someone with no assets for money they don’t have, unless the intention is to bankrupt them.”
——-
Assets and money are different things, by suing them you can force the sale of assets in order to meet their debts. If they can’t meet the debts or have more than one debt over them then bankruptcy will liquidate the assets (exceptions such as homes or cars used to get to work notwithstanding) and split them as appropriate.
That’s the reverse of an AKB.
You have to justify your thoughts.
pedro
Having (exp + good) backups is not about being a mancity team, thats what all title winning teams should have i suppose…
i cant remember any team winning a league, with a weak and inexperienced bench
Read that Article Wrighty… it’s a big chance!
Afternoon all, how goes it?
I’d think most top clubs would love to have a guy like Eboue on their bench, along with most quality teams have him as a starter.
Hence the interest he seems to get from Spain and Italy every summer.
On another note. I’m too lazy to do it, but I wonder what % of goals we’ve given up have been when TV and Gallas are up top for a set piece and loiter up there thinking the guys left back will regain the ball. That 2nd goal for Everton seemed too familiar to me.
Theo is shit, i would be over the moon if we sold that loser, and could reccomend many better players.
Sabeel only in 3D…Avatar that is…extraordinary experience
Kreshnik, that’s why you get a blackberry
Gambon-

Jaguar, when you are as miserable as you are, you should seek anti depressants.
————————————————————–
2 weeks gone following the transfer news of my beloved club, and all I hear is Mr.Wenger bringing in more and more toddlers to the club.No real news of any quality players coming in.
If we dont win anything season, due to the lack of quality players,Mr.Wenger can fuck right off to Monaco, and before that he would have to apologise to all of the fans, for our lost expectations during the four years. But I know that wont happen. We would still be looking up to that bastard come next season, forgetting the crap which he has talking all years.Vicious cycle.
Kreshnik do a search for and type : leave a reply.. you’ll be taken right down to the comments window.
Honestly speaking,Eboue on the right wing is as good as anyother RB.But that senile bastard, has tinkered with his playing positions to suit his crazy fantasises, and poor chap doesnt know whats his role in the team.
Not to be anti wenger but he takes home one of the top salaries in the country, but refuses to pay top salaries to world class players?
pedro
i think u are not getting my point.
Dont u believe our network in the world to find us that type of signings..till the Denilsons, walcotts, meridas, get more experienced…
It cant be two ways, that u wanna win a league with an inexperienced bench…
what i said above applies to earlier 4 years
if u consider this season alone
“chamakh” for Ade
“Sakho” for Senderos/Silvestre
“Given” for Almunia(he wanted to come here)
“a DM from our scouting network”
these things could have prevented us from dropping more points….we were NOT prevented for any injury to gallas/VM..
wenger just cant star season hoping nothing happens to them..right..
how fucking good was it when we signed sol?the first time that is.i remember exactly where and when i was when i heard,do you?i was in my van having a break and put on the radio,”it`s official, campbells a gooner” stated the presenter.i stayed listening for over an hour as arsenal and scum fans rang the station to either laugh and gloat or rant and rave, the scum fans were choking back tears,it was just beautiful.big signings are exciting and we need one now, surely it would lift the whole club ,the fans would love it,the players must appreciate it and i don`t see how the finances would suffer.when you buy a big name do you lose money?if he`s a success you reap the rewards for many seasons,if not ,you sell him and at least recoup your money.
Jaguar,
how about if we just don’t win anything as sometimes you just don’t win things?
Who would you like to get in and in place of whom? I’d like a list of players that are available, aren’t going attract interest from every other club on the planet meaning that we’re priced out, are actually an improvement, would be happy to come along for the role we need them to fulfill.
Ray
yes Avatar in 3D is awesome,we have 3D here…
Bangalore is only after California for whatever tech gadgets u need…
This is what Liverpool fans received after 85 mins last night
Definitely Pedro.
It just makes me laugh to see people saying it aint worth the hassle and now because of the exit of those two its important again.
I maybe wrong but (in the blogging world) I’m sure that only myself, you, Geoff and On-line Gooner were bothered about the cup before the West Ham game.
And I’m sure we got stick for it!
Duke … on the Blackberry that I had I couldn’t even read websites at all to begin with
… or I needed a pair of binoculars and a bunch of advils to keep my head from hurting
choy … you can search on iPhone’s Safari ?
Wrighty – read your article.
I think most arsenal fans prefer the CL as they have not won it.
It does not mean that I do not want to win the FA Cup – I would just prefer to win the CL.
A FA Cup final is a day out at Wembley – something that cant be sniffed at.
JAguar calm down. Really
There is a time to vent like you do….. u do it all the time
Sabeel –
would chamakh or sakho actually have come to play second fiddle, if we’d have played them as first choice who’s to say we’d have anywhere near as many points as we do now.
A GK would be nice (promote Sczeny now imo, he can’t be worse, and could grow to be great for years to come) but I’m not so sure Given is that great, good at stopping shots but his actual stats really don’t make for fantastic reading.
A DM from our scouting network, so you;d like an experienced DM to come on baord for the purpose of playing one month of the season? who would be better than what we have who’d be willing to do that?
Can’t you? I use a Nokia.. and use the search function to get to the bottom of the page.
You dont get no players,if that bastard table a bid of £2m, for players worth £10.On the other hand,he pays over the odds for unproven toddlers. The only way I see some quality players coming is,is if some one convince Mr.Wenger is that players like Villa/Y.Toure are 16 year old French speaking injury prone toddlers, who would be the next big thing in 2015.What a disgrace to my beloved club!
If we dont have no money,FFS stop piling up the number of unproven kids.If that bastard cant find better players in the world than Shitvestre,I can find some better jobs for him, where he wouldnt be paid a fortune,at the expense of the fans expectations.
I rememebr when I was the miserable fucker on here

just out of interest jaguar, how much do you think that Villa and Yaya would cost given that Chelsea and Man City would be all over them?
You stance on the kids element, although entertaining, is a bit OTT and I’m not sure that the amount of money we save by not buying them would make a slight bit of difference in comparison to the cost and wages of the players mentioned in the first paragraph.
DDM with all his money why bother
AndAPrayer
yes,and it is a fact that he was interested to come in summer..
pls do not use second fiddle thing, becos on a long run of a season everyone gets there chances to play in 4 Competitions in a year..
Given would be definitely better than Almunia for Sure
as i mentioned,in 4 competition u Cannot afford to play ONLY one month a season…
There is a reason why they say that winning titles is all about having a good squad, and i am not sure out bench strength in experienced enough to do that…
Thank you for your compliment,Franchise
.But I would rather be happy with that, than being a blind, stupid wanker ranting ‘Arsene knows best’ bullshit.
jaguar you really need to give it a rest mate.
Calling wenger a bastard is a huge lack of respect and class to a person wh really deserves some credits even if it’s 4 years and we are all frustrated and stuff.
Be sure that the manager is doing what is good for the club. Wenger is person who loves arsenal to win just like we do. if he could buy he would have. and if he can he will. before the emirates he was winning loads of trophies. it is the restricted budget that make the situation as it is. it is not that bad though. look at pool and spuds, i really feel pitty for the especially the last.
Sabeel should win ‘aesthethics’ blogger of the year award at the Le-Grove annual awards ceremony
im happy with my funniest blogger of the year
Arsenal can wreck our chances of winning the Premier League, insists Chelsea’s John Terry.
John Terry believes Arsenal pose the biggest threat to Chelsea’s chances of winning the Barclays Premier League this season.
looking
Can we make “restricted budget” a banned phrase.
Its a myth, just like the fairies, goblins & eskimos!
gambon- always liked rakitic
and franchise being funny
Arsenal V Chelsea Final in the FA cup.
That’s my prediction
Cant wait til the annual Le-Grove awards.
Wanna see Jaguar accept his award from Diaby.
petrovic – I remember exactly where I was too, in the queue at Wimbledon! Really was amazing when we first nabbed him, came pretty out of nowhere, everyone was reporting that he’d already signed for Barca!
http://www.goal.com/en/news/9/england/2010/01/14/1744977
Enough of his ‘judgment’ skills. This was another opportunity gone abegging.
Yeah I saw your comment Mark C mate.
I’m not trying to compare the two, I’ve admitted before that I would plump for the CL over FA, (admittedly I’d be torn) because we haven’t won it before it.
What I’m saying it that some Gooners thought the FA Cup isn’t really worth winning anymore and all the sudden it is because those two are out.
It just seems slightly hypocritical to me.
wide attacking forwards we have: Arshavin, Rosicky, Nasri, Walcott as first choice players.
Eden Hazard – available but young so would no doubt feel the wrath of jaguar, also wont be cheap.
Marek Hamsik – actually better than what we have?
Ibrahim Affelay – actually better than what we have?Eljero Elia- actually better than what we have?
Seb Giovinco- actually better than what we have?
Ashley Young- not available and when Aston Villa bought him was a young unproven player much like we are complaining about, also overpriced at that age.
Ivan Rakitic- actually better than what we have?
Juan Mata- actually better than what we have?
David Silva- would probably do ok and be of an equivalent level but I don’t deem him to be a massive improvement. Would also attract a lot of attention so we’d probably be priced out.
Frank Ribery – definitely too expensive.
Seb Sessegnon- actually better than what we have?
Angel DiMaria- actually better than what we have?, big reputation but I’m really not sure, on top of this he would probably be expensive as hell.
Gervinho
I think it’s vital we don’t play Diaby in defensive midfield. We all know he can’t defend and the only reason he’s been playing well for the last few weeks is that he is playing in attacking midfield, his natural role. But now Fabregas is back I suspect it will be a midfield of Fabregas, Diaby, and Denilson, but if Denilson is injured Nasri will play there.
But what about Campbell in DM. Yes, he is probably as fast as a turtle but Song isn’t really Usain Bolt either.
Wrighty u are 100% spot on with that observation
Good on you
Certain fans would rationalise any thing to back Wenger. Wenger didnt plan to lose the game but i remember many justifying his starting line up by saying that the FA cup wsnt important
Gooby says
it is the restricted budget that make the situation as it is. it is not that bad though. look at pool and spuds, i really feel pitty for the especially the last.
—————————————————————
I wouldnt have no complaints,if we dont buy players, because of lack of funds, which is not the case.Mr.Wenger keeps on buying unproven kids for mercurial amounts, and overlook the obvious shortcomings of our squad, which are there for anyone to see.
Thank you Franchise,
Being funny is the tuffest thing in the world..
http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_5859770,00.html
not sure if you guys have seen this?
AAP
What do you mean “better than what we have”
I said theyre all better wide forwards than Theo, thats all that matters.
As for asking that about Mata, thats just ridiculous, hes far better than we have outside of Arshavin.
Send him to Wandsworth no bail
Twitching crook
samir, hope so… just hope he doesn’t rest Arshavin!
There is no point talking to some people who are having a prejudiced notion, that there are no better players in the world, than some of our mediocre players. On the other hand,if Mr.Wenger shows an interest in any of those players, they would be back ranting about how that player is better than our current lot,and how they would improve our team.Blind double standards.
Arry Redknapp’s been arrested for Tax Evasion! Haha!
Cheers Franchise,
I think you are right. People will rationalise any thing to back Wenger.
I love Wenger to bits but I’m Arsenal through and through. I want us to win things and to be honest;
Beggars can’t be choosers!
People will rationalise anything to back Wenger, but people will ignore ALL rational thought to criticise Wenger too, you have extremes on both sides, from my experience more on the negative side though!
Jaguar, I’m not prejudiced per se but just don’t agree that we need new signings particularly at the moment and if we do it’s for short term issues. Yes there are better players but most of them aren’t available and if they are we will likely be priced out of competing. It will be unknown or little known players who come in and make a name for themselves that will hit the button and I’m all for signing them if they are an improvement but such players arent easily found.
Also given our position as one of the top teams in the world to describe any of our players as mediocre is either praising Wenger to the rafters for maintaining such a position with such players or is simply deluded.
We have some extreme dick heads on here, you are right A!
http://inarrywetrust.blogspot.com/2010/01/lets-all-laugh-at-top-4.html?
Ha ha these twats think they should laugh at us?!
I’m the anon commentor at 08:39!
about that last point of mine – apart from Almunia who I have simply given up with.
Shut up MG you dickhead!
True,MG
Hahaha! Jag & W7!
MG you dick head how you been
yeah A there are ppl on both sides and I know who they are
see thats been done already
how are you anyway?
Anyone staying north of Birmingham is a dickhead
north of the watford gap is a bit odds on
laters grovers have fun
they’ll have to change the name of that spurs blog when redknapp goes to jail. HaHa.
Nick;
Ya twat! How are ya!!!??? Sorry, if I missed ya fella!
Franchise;
Ha effin ha!!!
And while we go out and buy these “world class” wingers I think we should buy Veloso and Freddy Adu because they have been great in Football Manager.
Wrighty7;
Nice work on that spud blog, I just had a pop too….
A
But a few years ago no-one had a bad word to say about Wenger.
I am good friends with about 7 AFC fans, and all but 2 have just had enough, people on here that slate him werent doing that 18 months ago.
I suppose everyone who has changed their opinion of him either a) isnt a real fan or b) doesnt know anything about football?
The fact is opinion is changing not cos of the trophy drought, but because he is baffling fans with his decisions.
If you had put me incharge of Arsenal in May 2004 I couldnt have fucked the team up as quickly as he did.
Can’t say I think we need any wingers myself, then again, I am the Wenger Raitonaliser In Chief (WRIF)
WE have a variety of great options, when bleedin fit, and it would be a waste of cash, IMO… Better to spend it (oh pretty effin please! Spend it man!!!) on other positions…
Having a blog myself MG I shouldn’t really do it but they are spuds after all! So bollocks to ‘em!
ManG runs the Northern branch of the Wenger club!
gambon;
I think, like politics, if you hang around long enough, people will get sick of you! Happened to fergie and itis definbitely happening to Wenger…
Plus, I used to frequent a blog about 3 years ago and there were several rabid AW haters who near as hell pasted the same vitriolic bile every day…
I am not saying you and your friends are care in the Community cases or anything, but perhaps you are a small sect, or its just down to an anomoly that you all feel like that???
I think the hostility stems from not winning anything… We win a pot this year and about 60% of those haters will change their tune, and their medication too…
Personally, I vere from one opinion to another, I can’t help it. It all gets too much! Last season was horrible, I was up for a change at certain times last year…
But a change aint necessary a good thing and I think being Gooners, it is almost impossible to look at things Arsenal related with any sort of objectivity… Well, if you can do that, then i would suggest you aint a fan!
ManG
Well we do have to get a special minibus to the games!!
Its not the lack of trophies that annoy me so much, as 95% of clubs dont win anything every year.
Its the fact that 1) He wont improve the areas that every ex player, pundit, fan says he needs to and 2) The lies he tells to fans to keep them spending on tickets.
He is held up as a bastian of honorability when infact he has no issue lying to the fans that pay his wages.
We all know that lies make baby jesus cry.
There’s no point wishing wenger away anyway because he will go in his own time, when he wants to leave. and I think he will go when the time is right.
But when the day comes, I will look forward to the new manager with optimism, not fear. No manager is perfect and that includes wenger.
It would be fun having
Sharkey, Geoff, Jaguar, Jimbo, Keyser, Mayank on question time
i will be in the audience
lol Franchise.
I think I would get so angry I would get thrown out.
Oh and you forgot David !
I’d wanna see BBK in there too Franchise
Sabeel would be the first person in the audience, shouting out BOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM!
random, some much delayed responses
likes…
TV as DM
Clichy to take care of Colin Davies
Diaby as target up front
Saha for Senderos (Goodbye, Goog Luck Phil, sorry for the poor treatment)
Janko for 6.5 million
Janko for 6.5 Million
Agrees…
Eboue is a talent and has been poorly managed, hope this changes
Theo (sorry Geoff) out this summer to balance the books
FA Cup or Champions League…let me think, er don’t rush me
All over the Champions League (top 4 and CL over PL and another piss-poor exit from the CL)
Nice article about the marketing potential to Asia…might even pay for Gadzizis’ overhead
“Good” Luck Phil
gambon;
I think there is an assumption that Wenger has no one to voice a strong opinion that goes against his… We dont know for sure if that is the case, I did read a while back that this was poo pooed by the club (well, they would do that)
I just have to remember that the guy has been around soooo long and has the best interests of the club at heart, that I will forgive any perseved mistakes, fuck ups or stuff like that…
That doesnt mean he is beyond accountability or criticism, however…
lol Gambon
oh forgot
BBK, David
thanks A and Raddy
Janko wouldn’t get near our squad though ray if we signed Saha.
Saha and Bendtner would rotate, then VP entering into the rotation when he’s back, Arshavin, Eduardo, Vela can/will all play centrally if the opposition is suited to that too, no space for Saha AND one more, debatable whether there will even be enough space for Saha once VP is back!
Theo WILL be an amazing player for us…. I think this anti-Theo agenda is very sad… I will pray for you…
A;
Now that Neill has effed off, perhaps there is something to this Senderos/Saha swap thing then?
Sorry, if this has already been done to death today!
ManG,are you in favour of signing Saha.Would you be happy for a swap with Senderos?
Franchy;
Who would be the anchor on the panel then?
And, I said ANCHOR BTW!
ManG
Theres nothing to suggest he will be a great player, other than hope & the fact he’s english.
He just isnt very good. I stood up for him against anyone who slated him for 3 years, but ive come to the realisation he isnt Arsenal material, not even close.
78692;
You know what mate? I think I would be in favour of that. Saha is proven, experienced and has been bangin the goals in this season, for a team, that for long spells created virtually fuck all…
Yep, as a short term solution, till the summer…
Then again, I was in favour of us signing RvN or Adriano too…
Yes indeed Mang, seems he’s staying to play their match on Sunday, then off after that, so the needing to wait for Yak to return from African may not be the case as they’ll hardly have any league games before he returns, and already got in Donovan.
I really would be delighted if it does happen!
Mang don’t make me point out how putting forward RVN is like saying Ashton!
gambon;
I think it is still too early to make that kind of call, personally…
I have seen him, live a lot, particularly away from home and he just shits up opposition defences and gives the players a lift…
This season has been sooooo frustrating for him as he has hardly featured coz of injuries… But he has still shown glimpses of improvements in his movement, etc…
ManG it will have to be Raddy or Chary. there is none fairer on here. No Agenda bloggers
U are too angry to be on the show hope you enjoy the it from home
Adriano though would’ve been nice, I’d be torn between him and Saha if they were both possibilities, but Adriano not willing to leave Brazil
Saha would be a very Larsson like signing. Could work very well
A; I know, I know! My RvN fetish was a stoopid waste of time!
Franchy;
Me, angry???? Grrrrrrrr!! Why I oughtta….
oh ManG ive witnessed your metarmophosis
from SuicidalLoner
to DepressedLoner
to AngryLoner
to somethingelse Loner
to Mangoonian
did I miss anything?????
A, if it was between them, then Adriano for me.
Rarely injured, powerful, 2 footed, great shooting, set pieces, better technique than Saha.
I’d take Saha though!
ManG, do u still frequent ACLF?
my producers have asked me to include yourself and Ethan
its a wrap i believe
Adriano looked immobile when I saw him last live. I think it was at the last Emirates cup or maybe it was 2 years ago???? Cant rememebr
Looks like Manu is in pathetic situation. Selling their training ground for few bugs. What a waster of all fungus achievement.
Saha would be a fine signing. A very Wengerish player.
I think Theo is definitely a quality player. If Wenger and Capello (esp. Fabio) consider him to be a world beater, I am happy to be patient and let him develop. He is still a baby FFS
gambon
what trigeered to have question time panel,as franchise suggests
Janko and Saha would both be valuable additions…not mutually exclusive
Janko would make defenses change the way they defend against us and give us a whole new look when teams park their bus at the Emirates
(unless of course AW buys him and puts the 6ft-5in center forward on the wing)
I see nothing wrong with have a squad that allows rotating/resting the forwards/attacking midfield players…playing them when they’re carrying sub-critical injuries is the best way to give them critical injuries
Imagine having a fit and rested squad when we play Barcelona in Madrid, May 22, instead of our CC team
No doubt about Theo potential. But not the expense of Arsenal first team.
About Harry.
My boss met the old Hull Chairman recently. Said he was a brilliant for stories on football.
One included that Harry is DEFINITELY gonna be made to leave the Spuds this season.
1 – tax dodginess
2 – his history with clubs and fucing them up financially.
Franchise.
I am a trained arbitrator, but even I would be concerned at the level of disagreement amongst your panel. And I would be worried that BBK would top himself!
HAs anyone seen Avatar on 3D? i had fantasies of having an Avatar or being a NAvi in Pandora after watching the movie
is that strange?
I still wondered why Diaby not played as a front man.He looks the one to do that in the absence of RVP and Bendy. Maybe boss wants to play him the middle that is where he can play to his full potential.

Avatar..is awesome man..i saw it today…still cant take my out of avatar…its like i have become avatar…
avatar by the way is a hindi word from india, which means re-incarnation..
Launching soon
Arseneknowsbullshit.wordpress.com
maurya we need Diaby in the middle, im surprised that Arsene hasnt persisted with Eddie in the middle
Arshavin has only been great there for a combined total of 90mins. May be not up to even
BBK would turn up like Michael Douglas in ‘Falling Down’.
Just make sure you give him breakfast if he asks for it!
Jaguar
on that note..there has to be
BlindlyArseneknowsbest.wordpress.com
Sabeel, Do you speak Hindi Gujarati.or both?
Jaguar.
In a moment of seriousness. Can you explain to me what pleasure you get out of being an Arsenal fan?
Paul that would be terrible news if true, would fuck up any saha swap
I saw Avatar yesterday. Fucking brilliant
78692
I know only hindi, but smart question i must say,i know why
Senderos just wants to get as far away from Drogba as possible!!
what..
I think I AM AVATAR…i could co-relate with that character so well..like its me..Only if i can execute acting with excellence,i would have auditioned for it
Need a couple of those Navi fellas as strikers
Senderos should take tips from Drogba..on how to play him,and then play him..still drogba will score hattrick..
Franchise,
Agree with you. Lack of players in the middle. Otherwise, we could have him as a target man.
Sabeel, may sumja ke Avatar ka meaning hai “halat” yanay ke “apki halat dekho”
Sumje?..nuy sumje?..sumaj jayege!
is ‘arry going to jail then?
The “Beast” our Julio (Baptista) is moving again…from Roma to Inter
after the Everton debacle, there seemed to be a groundswell that the attacker should be expected to win one-on-one situations with a goalie
out of a painful blur I seem to remember we had a couple of break-away one-on-ones in Paris ’06 that we didn’t profit from — TH & FL come to mind.
I may be wrong again, but maybe we shouldn’t give Almunia so much benefit-of-the-doubt in not stopping Pinnear
78692
allah ke fazl, hum kush hai yahan..
Avatar ka mutlub hota hai Re-incarnation…
Chelsea been ordered to pay 3.5M which could rise upto 6.5M, If Merida does leave us for Atletico i expect us to get the around the same amount if we go to tribunal
Sabeel.
Do you rate WG and TV? I am sure you do.
Well, they got trashed by Drogba a couple of months ago, so I don’t think we can use Drogba as the benchmark. Everyone gets done by him.
There you go BigRaddy

Spuds fans seem to think Hughes will be the replacement for Twitch if he ends up leaving
Tottenham are reportedly close to signing Slovakian goalkeeper, Jan Mucha fromm Legia Warsaw.
Redknapp is still keen on bringing in another goalkeeper as cover for Heurelho Gomes, after Carlo Cudicini was ruled out for the season in a motorcycle accident.
Mucha’s contract is up at the end of the season and is interested in a move to England, with Legia understandably keen on cashing in on their man as opposed to risking losing him for nothing in the summer.
A transfer for the Slovakian stopper would cost in the region of £2.5million, with the player hinting at a possible move himself.
Mucha said, “I can’t say yes, I can’t say no. Everything will be sorted out in the next few days.”
Stoke have also been linked with a move for Mucha, whilst other reported Tottenham targets include Stipe Pletikosa and Watford’s Scott Loach.
Fuck. ANd we’re still stuck with Almunia ffs.
Sharkey
Come post something today…
If youre going donate $100.00 to any charity of my choosing…
How bout Haiti?
Loius Saha is a NO NO. We dont need another Left Footed forward.
Fuck me we have been taken over by the Klingons I have no idea what is being written recently.
David, whats wrong with a left footed forward?
What do you think about adriano, David?
http://goal.com/en-gb/news/2558/news/2010/01/14/1744843/barcelona-star-yaya-toure-baffled-why-arsenal-never-signed
But we cannt sign him, He’d kill eastmonds development!
We have too many left footed players Pat.
Its becoming a joke.
When RVP gets back…what do we do with SAha?
Mr B that was 05, he wouldn’t come to us now after kolo left
Only one of them would play David,
This is todays article.
Yeah Mr B, Yaya talking about nearly signing in 2005, not now
It’s Klingon to me too El Tel, but not to Senderos, Hindi and Gujurati are two of his 27 languages
Did I mention that if we’re not going to get any value from Phil on the pitch at least we should get some value from him on the transfer market?
letting him go on a pre-contract with a Serie A club, such a waste, such a waste
Might have known nothing good would come from agreeing with A about a Saha-Senderos swap
Carlton cole name keeps coming up, it maybe bull but it not going away
Not the sort of singing we need Pat.
We need more right footed or more importantly two footed players.
Adriano would fit the bill. But he’s also a natural lefty.
Ray u should know nothing good id gonna come out of agreeing with A about anything
Coles name does keep coming up
I always thought that this month was a case of Chamakh or no one.
Maybe it is Cole or no one, but it is all dependant on him getting fit.
I would take him though. Not my first choice, but he would improve our squad. Chuck in Parker too and I am well happy.
Even with a fit VanP we still wouldnt have the squad to win the CL imo…
We need a right footed player…good in the air…hold the line up with back to goal…etc..etc..
We’re not looking for Mr Right, we’re looking for Mr Right-Now
Janko 6.5 million, Saha who knows, Cole, Kenwynne, who gives a flying…
to continue the Mr Right-Now analogy…we need a warm willing body who performs adequately and is available right now
better than have? yup, cos the ‘best’ we have at the moment are lame or on their way to becoming lame
Not sure what right footed has to do with anything, though I do agree about the Champs League, I wouldn’t be confident regardless of who our forward was because of our defensive naiveties as a team.
I think a right footed forward should and would speak for itself…specially when we’ve had Eduardo in positions to score and he’s had to cock it up because he tried to put the ball on his left foot.
Defensive naiveties is a major problem ofcoarse. But Having only one right footed forward means there is no balance.
you know in spite of the naivety defensively, we have conceded 4 fewer goals this season compared to the same fixtures last season
Maybe we should make a cheeky bid for Carragher.
Carragher…. He is all over the place with Pools for the moment.
Why not Agger ? Carragher would get slaughtered playing for us, we don’t get much from refs and he’s always all over players.
Carragher!!!!!
I would rather have Titus Bramble
Carragher is overated imo, not that good at all.
Keyser
Agger or Skrtel would be better than Carragher
I know Skrtel is not having a great season, but it is hard to judge the real ability of Liverpool players at the moment as I get the impression none of them want to play for the Fat Spanish Waiter
Maybe not David!
Carragher and Campbell against Spuds at the Lane1
Carragher passes the ball quite well from defense.
Agger? Thats a good shout…he can score goals too.
Agger/Vermalean partnership….either can score from 40 yards out.
Didn’t Agger nearly leave in the Summer as well.
Maybe we should get Nic B to have a word next time there is an international break
Carragher??? – i’ve killed for less!
So could fishface to prison for that Tax Evasion charge?
Agger would be a great signing, Wenger wont spend that much IMO on any defender though. He hates defenders & GKs.
Unless, they are French, cheap and crocks like Shitvestre
Ac Milan after Guy Demel haha
Villa up 1-0 away to blackburn. They’re all over them
The current chase for Guy Demel pretty much sums up why project youth cant ever work.
Gambon, can you expand my brain by briefly telling me a bit about him,if you dont mind please?
I wouldn’t say theres a chase. Sunderland and Milan, although I reallu doubt the milan rumor
Agbonlahor yellow for dive in the box haha
786
About who? Demel?
Gambon, about Demel.
Boos at Ewood park haha
786
As far as i remember he was a clairefontaine graduate who joined us about 1999, big strong CB/DM.
Wenger called him “the new vieira” then a year later sold him to Dortmund & he became a RB who covers in DM.
Twitter: just heard from a club doctor mate that Carlton Cole reckons he’ll be joining us soon
Thanks Gambon.
You’ll forgive me for being a bit sceptical for now big dave.
Is cole even fit?
“..Wenger wont spend that much IMO on any defender though. He hates defenders & GKs.”
How much would Agger cost ? and what are you on about ?!
How quick is Carlton Cole ?! Bendtner, Van Persie, Eduardo, I’d want someone quick to add to those lot, unless Walcott beefs up.
Keyser
He would cost £15m plus if we wanted him.
And check how much weve spent on the back 5 positions vs the front 6 since Wenger joined.
Its ridiculously weighted towards attackers. Hence why we have never been able to defend and we have a retard in goal.
“Its ridiculously weighted towards attackers. Hence why we have never been able to defend and we have a retard in goal.”
You’re not even trying now, you used to at least back up what you said with something rational or reasonable.
Vermaelen cost 10 million, I think Liverpool would accept a bid in that range, if we really wanted him.
Carlton Cole is quick but not lightning. Good signing if it happens, would give us a great option.
I dont think it’ll happen though.
I dunno about great, Adebayor was pretty quick, but was also lumbering and awkward at times, Cole seems even more heavyweight.
A young Carew might have been nice.
Don’t know if it’s been posted before, but I think you’d like it gambon.
The first part is almost obligatory but somewhat neccessary for the second.
http://www.thefootballnetwork.net/main/s378/st153160.htm
I just think he has everything we really miss. Height, power & directness.
A team like Chelsea for example wouldnt really need him, but we dont really have any of them types.
Also Carlton Cole & Nik on the bench would give us the best squad strikers in the league by far.
geez keyser.. its written by celine dion!!!
Reports are saying we are after the Mozambique goalkeeper, João Rafael Kapango, after some impressive perfomances with the Mozambique national team, such as this one.
Yeah ive read it Keyser, good piece.
Franchise;
You forgot Lovedup!!!
Big Dave;
Were you the fella who said we were signing Sol a few weeks back?
Buenos Noches Muchachos!
So, who do I have to separate tonight then?
Haha! Not sure there’s any shenanigans goin on tonight Zorr0!!!
Maybe it’s time to start some then.
COME ON, WHO WANTS SOME THEN!!!!!!!
Oh fuck me! You want proof the twats ONLY replay and replay dives by foreigners and make them into massive public enemies, while letting English players off scot free…
The fuckers on Sky refuseing to go on about Agbonlahors diving!!! And O Neill still goin on about Young being carded when they played us!!!
Bangalore was just on sky saying it was a pen. Was it?
Was it bollocks!!!
If it was Eduardo, they’d be replaying it ad effin nauseum innit!
Whether it was or not, the fact they give the English players, the benefit of the doubt, ALL THE TIME!
Aww fuck em…
where is loved up ?
he’s not rubbing himself up against someones couch is he ??
Nah, just sitting on the washing machine during the spin cycle!!
Hey Ethan!
How’s the breast augmentation goin? You got those tits you were eyeing up yet? How long before you go the whole hog?
Man G.
I did hear about the Sol rumour 2 week ago, can’t remember if I posted it on here tho, cause like everyone at the time I thought it sounded like bull and wenger would not re sign him
You got those tits you were eyeing up yet?
—————————————
no but she will be mine about midday today
she paid 20 k for em .. and im sure she would never drown in a boating accident either ?!
and its mammaplasty you uneducated fool
Nice imagery there!
And thanks for the ejumication ethan!
thanks for the great read Keyser
enjoyed the keeper video — the coach’s expression at the end of the clip says it all
come to think of it there are a lot of Arsenal fans that wear that expression whenever we defend against a set piece
but that’s all changed now Sol’s here
as a dyslexic I thought you said mammalpasty
completely different image
How fast is Sol? faster than silvest?
well if you think that imagery was graphic …
proverb of the day

there’s something just not right about dragging your colon across your neighbors lawn at 6 am in the morning …
its easier just to remember to buy toilet paper ..
or Kee -Kadart as we say here in the land of smiles ..
i should stop having those dog dreams
Stephen Hawking is faster than Sylvest.
Hahahaha!!!
Nite all…
Fuck. Teddy Pendergrass. RIP
Adios MG!
Theo mystery injury. Supposedly out of both Bolton games and Arsenal will try to see if the recent injuries are linked with the shoulder surgery
gambon – I’d want pace though along with it, we haven’t had surpreme pace for a while, Henry, Anelka, even Wright.
Ray in SF – Heh, just saw it on newsnow, thought it’d be perfect for the Grove.
we should let theo be henry’s avatar
supreme pace= theo
only if he got football brain of henry, anelka.
i would be curious to see what can happen on 100m sprint involving
Sol vs shitevestre
i really can’t stand to see shitevestre in a arsenal shirt.
100m sprint between those two Gooby?!
I reckon Sol would collapse and pass out around the 70m mark, Silvestre might make another 10m before passing out.
Sol would get a taxi home halfway through, Silvestre would be out of position (in the wrong lane) as usual.
spot on gambon! lol
i reckon our CBs are becoming too old these days. 32 33 and 35 we need some kids here.
C`mon wenger bring us some young CB’s.
I reckon that’ll be the big signing in the summer Gooby, a centre back around vermy’s age
right sided centre back that is, so he can play with vermy
A jogging Sol Campbell would beat a sprinting Shitvestre, hands down.
A- that would be great mate. two CB at 25/24/23 each for a long term partnership.
i think wenger should a make a move for a stiker after the double bolton games.
lol jaguar. i am not that optimistic about sol’s speed. But sivestre is a huge disaster and senderos is miles better than him, i don’t know why wenger is doing with him he used to like him before
I reckon the wheels are already in motion for a striker Gooby, though it might not happen until then. Please let us nab Saha, be an amazing signing.
I agree too, a right sided CB to play alongside Vermy for the next decade! Fabianski in goal too, that defensive core that’ll become synonymous with the club!
I wish I were a injured, cheap,French crock footballer. It would have been a highway to a £50k per week contract at Arsenal.
i wonder if kyle bartley can be the answer to partner vermy.
all these english kids signing extensions means they will get a chance to prove themselfs at the next level.
i believe that Gibbs, JET and aneke are going to be great players for us along with jackie boy.
Jaguar, the key is to be talented.
Yeah possibly Gooby, though I can’t imagine it’ll happen anytime soon. Maybe that will be the plan eventually, but I still see someone coming in in the summer.
Next season Bartley will most likely go off on loan to a Championship side, maybe even second half of this season, though maybe more likely to be a league 1 team right now, then at the end of next season he could be ready to make the move into the first team squad.
Next season I see us having Gallas, Vermy, and JD, with one player signed as additional back up.
Unless Nordveit returns in the summer and comes into the first team squad, which is certainly a possibility. Maybe he’ll come in as cover at DM and centre back if needs be, or Song will drop back to centre back.
silvestre really needs to retire and i’m saying that for the good of the arsenal and for the player himself.
at one stage players become ridiculous. they have to know when to stop. Berkamp for exemple played until 36 and still looked class, what a legend.
silvestre needs to stop playing football, and sorry if i am a bit harsh but it’s my opinion.
A
i would rather keep song in the DM. he may turn into a CB at a latter stage when he’s got enough experience.
nordveit seems like a good player, he is tall too. we’ll see what he can do in the prem hopefully next year!
i’d sign jaguar to cover rosicky too
Talent went out of the window, once we signed Shitvestre,Pat.
Yeah I agree Gooby, I’d much rather keep Song there, currently there are very few players I’d have over him at DM, but just saying as cover, perhaps. It’s a pity Nordveit has been playing as a DM in Germany, would’ve been good for him to get a season at centre back under his belt.
I agree about Silvestre too, I reckon he’ll either retire in the summer, or head on back to France.
A
i hope so. can’t wait for saha to come if he is coming. i wasn’t too excited about the idea first but thinking about it he can be massive addition for us, he is still fast, bloody intellingent, and a can grab lots of goal.
in our system wich is a heaven for stiker he will even score more. imo, get saha it is less riscky signing.
We should sign Hargreaves once Rosicky returns.
once rosicky returns? he’s been fit for a while now, played in the last game….
yeah Gooby, VERY few players I’d want us to sign more than Saha, and none that are realistic or rumoured!
Though I wouldn’t agree our system is heaven for a striker to score loads of goals, no one player gets loads of chances, but Saha could certainly fit in, put away chances that came his way, and be a valid part of the goalscoring machine that is our attack in general!
yep jaguar we really need to keep it up on the top of the injury-list league and extend our curent lead.
all these english kids signing extensions means they will get a chance to prove themselfs at the next level.

more like it is done to ensure wenger gets his pound of flesh when selling them on …
only a small fraction will make it to the 1st team ..
most kids cant improve to that level without years of experience ..
project youth if flawed , its also a way for wenger to get top bucks on his young bucks,
im sure he will have no problem moving on whoever he wants ..
but one thing that is very noticable is wenger’s choices of new young signings ..
it started with nordveits
wellington and the new Bolivia boy ..
are definitely a lift in quality since the song / eboue days ..
i think even he realizes you need TOP TOP TOP draw youths to take the element of luck out of the equasion when it comes to securing quality .
RvP was on a good run before getting that stupid injury.
a proper physical goal scorer like saha may get more chances by acctually creating them. it would allow arshavin to get free and show us some magic again!
You mean since the Cesc/Merida/Clichy/Bendtner/Traore days ethan?!
Neither Song nor Eboue came to the club as youth players….
We’ve not signed Gallindo yet either, wonder if it’s actually true
You’ve missed Diaby,A
A
song came at the age of 17 and i remember he was awefull i used to swear a lot when he played CB in the carling.
Players get better by experience,Gooby. The only exceptions I have seena re Diaby and Shitvestre.
Oh yeah gooby, i’m sure he’ll score goals, we create many chances a game, but no one player actually gets that many. Looking at the attempts on goal, our players havn’t actually had anywhere near as many individually as the majority of players on the top scorers list, despite as a team our outscoring everyone!!
Jaguar Diaby didn’t come as a youth player either!
Gooby Song was 18 going on 19, and 19 when we signed him permanently, so young, but too old to play for our youth teams!
lol so Jaguar, you’re saying Diaby has gotten worse?!
jaguar- i never said the opposite, i agree with you on silvestre but diaby came good and if injuries leaves him free i’m sure he is gonna be massive mid man.
there are other exeptions of players who acctually don’t need experience to shine: messi, ronaldo(the real one), dinho, rooney(euro 2004), owen (98 he got worse with experience like silvestre).
A
your right mate he just turn 18 when we signed him he is born the 9th of decembre, was he a summer signing? i think so nah?
septembre i meant sry
not sure gooby, can’t remember, though pretty sure he never played for our youth team
Torres out fr 6 weeks.Benayoun out a month.Good chance of these 2 missing the game against us
Cesc/Merida/Clichy/Bendtner/Traore
????????
cesc yes
the rest arent no where near the 1st team
and clichy is 24 .. he joined us 6 years ago as an 18 year old ..
not sure he really qualifies as the youth program , joined 2004 and in 2005 covered for cole if you remember ..
gael was not some random youth signing he clearly was back up for cole ..
even cesc it must be known, was bought at 16 and almost played straight away ..
sorry A, project youth has only really manifested into this beast in the past 2 or 3 year’s.. which coincided with the C.C rants .
before it seems players where bought for a purpose , now they are more like collectibles .
with no clear vision on their own future’s .
Clichy was bought in 2003, but yeah he did come straight into the first team that was my point though – back then we bought top top quality kids, Clichy, Cesc, no different from now with Wellington Silva!!
Back then,we had quality players like DB10,TH14 from whom, the kids could learn. Now players like Eboue are looking upto Shitvestre for advice. What a disgrace!
What and VP, Arshavin, Gallas, Rosicky, Cesc aren’t quality players the kids can learn from now?!
clichy’s last season for cannes was 2003 A !
he pretty much joined the start of 2004 .
Ethan he joined in the summer of 2003, at the end of 02/03, he played for us in the 03/04 season
Back then,we didnt have shit players like Shitvestre.Even Cygan was far better.
Clichy was the MOM against the Chavs at Stanford Bridge.
Not sure I’d agree with that Jaguar, reckon I’d rather Silvestre than Cygan, though it’s a close call.
VP, Arshavin, Gallas, Rosicky, Cesc
well if RVP or Rosicky wernt always in the sick bay the youths might learn something .

——————
thats correct 2004 and within 1 year he basically took over from cole as he did an ankle ?.
he was injured anyway …
same with cesc almost straight in the team ..
within a year .. if you wish to include clichy or cesc into the banner of project youth i think your incorrect to do so ..
To be brutially honest NO ONE has really made it . cesc was touted as paddys replacement
straight from the off .
if you want to include him just because he was young when he joined, then you go ahead and believe it .. but the truth is cesc wasnt some long term youth project , he was just gifted ,and joined us ..
id go with traore and jack sure .. even nik b .
BUT NONE OF THOSE 3 would get into the 1st team setup if we were injury free .
not bad for a conservative 3-4 year stint ..
wenger has aproximately 0 1st team players from this venture ..
and we still have to bring in the likes of fish face – AA23 – sagna – tv05 – cesc – nasri ..
gallas and rosicky from a few years back …
no real 1st team player of project youth as yet can say they have a monopoly on a 1st team spot .
ethan doesn’t that tell you that “project youth” doesn’t actually exist and is just a myth?!
ok maybe song , but personally whilst he isnt dreadful , im sure there are far better options out there .
and besides gone every 2nd year is a pain in the ass ..
What is project youth if it isn’t bringing in talented young players, ie cesc, clichy, and bringing them through into the first team, rather than buying established stars?!

—————————
yes i would think so !
but then every time the C.C or F.A comes about we are reminded ..
and the pundits all start making a fuss of wengers line ups .
i think its more like this 4 or 5 year old fruit tree is only just starting to blossom
,but that in itself spells failure to me . .
we would have been far better off focusing that money on a better breed of ‘now’ player ..imo
What is project youth if it isn’t bringing in talented young players, ie cesc, clichy, and bringing them through into the first team, rather than buying established stars?!
———————————–
hey i have no problems in wenger getting a 21 year old benzema or pato ..
sure get them young . but ensure the quality is there 1st .. ( like nasri )
no one really complains about him as we can all see he will make it .
and like you said with cesc and clichy ,
there was no guess work in it for wenger these players might have been young but they were ready … or close enough ….
where as others NOW are no-where near ready , but
we would rather throw money at them just the same .
YOU DO AGREE A WE NEED 1 OR 2 QUALITY PLAYERS TO GET US OVER THE LINE THIS SEASON ?
RIGHT ?
Hiddink to Liverpool?!?!?!
one things for sure pat it will be someone other than raffa unless he does a 180 , like yesterday .
cause his days are numbered ..
morning all.
i’m very optimistic this morning.
we are going to win all of it this season.
FA cup for sure
prem alsmost sure
CL no doubts…
HIDDINK TO LIVERPOOL….THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN.
Good morning all,
We are having a solar eclipse in this part of the world right now.
Gooby
Pssst.. whats your poison?
Morning all.
In my opinion we will see the project youth bearing fruit in the near future (in 2 years if you want a timeline on it). Also we should not forget it is because of the Arsenal’s growing reputation of letting young players in the team that we get hold of players like Ramsey and Cesc.
Project Youth is unnecessary and a farce.
Waste of our bloody time and even more so hard to stand by it while we win feck all year in and year out.
We coulve had Wesley Sneider who is for all intents and purposes a free-kick specialist.
Instead we persist with the likes of Ramsey who atimes shows brilliance but often times goes missing completely as was the case against Everton.
We couldve signed Diego. We can still sign Van Dar Vaart…
My fear and Worry is that this approach is selling us a future that we may never realize and completely foregoing our present ambitions.
Whose to say they wouldnt take time to develop like diaby has? Or what about Song? Will we suffer till they become good however long they take to come good for the sake of saving a couple pennies here and there?
Project Youth Must End now…and we must buy a quality Striker ASAP.
bnsb-
Morning all.
Financially, Utd look a little unsteady, and Pool, Everton, Spuds have all got to go through new stadium projects. (cant include Chavs, Southern or Northern in any real-world discussion), so future looks quite bright.
So with just two quality signings now, we can dominate not only in the years to come, but this season as well.
Reading yesterdays post, it must be noted that three days ago on here I suggested Verm as Song cover, with Diaby centre top. Only AW to fall in line now!!
Loving the Dog of the Week. Rico’s hound on Avenell Road. Local lad.
A NICE READ……..
http://blog.emiratesstadium.info/2010/01/vermaelen-wins-best-player-award-and-reveals-allergy-to-grass-and-spain/
That’s all we’ve ever said 2 players and a keeper and we’d dominate, only Wenger refuses to acknowledge that.
We already added a 17 year old another twice that
Morning!
1st!
New post!
Geoff/Micky
evevn news now has given up , no one linked .
I don,t think we will sign anyone now ,
” i will do business early ”
yeh ok , arsene , you know , don,t bother talking in windows anymore cos we are sick of you
