Hazard, Moses, Dzeko, Sakho on my Christmas list but what about Reyes?

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Okay settle down, wipe up the cornflakes, this is my wish list and I will go through them, but what about José Antonio Reyes? Word has it Everton are about to make a loan move, yes I know he was a homesick pikey, yes I know he only had eyes fro Real Madrid, but like Flamini he made a king size cock up.

I remember watching him on his debut at Highbury, he had something, I would love him back in the team, he could resurrect his career, and don’t forget he was a member of the invincibles, he was a great winger, you don’t lose that, I would have him and Flamini back in a heartbeat.

Onto my more realistic list, first up Eden Hazard, we could have had him last summer for 3 shillings and sixpence, his price has now gone up, but you know what, it will continue to go up, make a move now, yeah, yeah I know he’s only 18, and I hate project youth, but if we could have signed Ronaldo, Kaka or Messi at 18 we’d be laughing now wouldn’t we!

Moses, Ok I’m not really sure where he plays, on the wing? attacking midfield? up front? either way he’s on the radar and at £5mil, we could do worse, so I’d have a punt. Dzeko would be cup tied but like Numchucks, he’s the type of player that would fit right in, so again, worth the money and finally, Sakho, a big imposing lump, but a lump with not only skill, but a footballing brain and pace, which is a big plus for a centre back, again, we could get him at a good price, after the world cup, his value will go up, if of course he plays.

Don’t forget we have at least £40mil we got from our new benefactor Sheik Mark Hughes, before he was so cruelly tin-tacked, and reports are we have already made £45mil from this years Champions league (true including beverage and broadcasting rights) but £40 should do some of that comfortably.

So I have mentioned midfield, the front men and a centre back but not a keeper, why not? well we won’t be dumping Almunia anytime soon, the boss made that clear when he trotted out as captain against Hull, he won’t replace Song either and we now have Diaby who has thrown his hat into the defensive midfield ring.

I think he coulld do it, I really do, he’s certainly big enough, if he could learn to defend, he could be the answer, and don’t forget until Flamini had his wonder season, Diaby was going in there, had he not be injured, he most certainly would have been our DM.

I’m in a positive mood today, I’m thinking if Santa brings us the above signings, it would add to the squad, it would give us cover and we may have 2 starlets for the future that could change our game plan a bit, give us some width and trickery without changing the way we play, there would be no ego’s to contend with and it may just kick us on, and with the business end coming up, it could be at the right time. Don’t forget we have to look over our shoulder this season more than ever before.

I would also blood Jay Emmanuel Thomas, see if he has what it takes to play at the highest level. I would use the transfer window to clear out some dead wood. It’s a shame really because I saw big Phil sitting next to Cesc at the Hull game, I thought, top man, not even in the squad and there he is, watching the team, if only he could play.

One last thought there, what about him as the defensive midfielder? Just an out loud thought, if he made his usual once a game howler, Vermaelen would be there to pick up the pieces, he is solid, he is big and he can head the ball, hmmmm.

That’s it for today and as we are getting closer to Christmas, my posts will become cheerier and more festive, I will give an amnesty to all the people that have been nasty to me over the years and let them on, goodwill to all mankind and all that.

Arsene if you’re reading, and I know you are, climb aboard and let us know what you think to my suggestions, you always liked Reyes, in fact you once broke the bank for him, and I know you like Senderos, and I like his grit.

Have a great day Grovers, today I’m out for another lunch, the last one of the week, and like the BBC we will be broadcasting on Christmas day as we always do, so take your PC’s and Macs somewhere where you can blog in secret, I know we will!.

  1. luke

actually, probably not. WHO KNOWS! I always start pretending to be Wenger and everytime, I just realize how little I know about the mans plans.

  2. Pat

Although Pandev would be great in our team. Very intelligent, great linkup play, and will score goals. Amazing technique as well.

  3. luke

He single handedly terrorizes defenses for Macedonia, imagine what he could do with fabregas, arshavin by his side. WOO!

  4. Pat

I do think Wenger will really try buying though.

The fact that he said the play can be cup-tied makes it even better. Not sure how Dzeko would fit into the system, but I’d definitely take him.

Pandev, Gignac, Saha, Villa could all play in the CL if they came. Dzeko wouldn’t be able to

  5. A

    luke I don’t think that’s what it’ll be, i reckon

    Rosicky/Nasri/Theo/Eduardo/Vela–Bendtner/new signing–Arshavin

Yeah pat since i heard that rumour i’d be quite up for it!

  6. A

I wouldn’t want Dzeko Pat, and Villa won’t go anywhere until the summer.

    Cole, Pandev, Gignac, Saha

    wouldn’t mind any of them

  7. A

No way Eduardo will be going anywhere in January. Against Hull he looked much much better than recently, if he can continue getting his sharpness up then he’ll be a very important player in the second half of the season

    Cole better than Dzeko?My foot!
A would want the rest of the players because
    1)Pandev is FREE
    2)Gignac is French
3)Saha is French and crocked, which would make him a perfect choice for Mr.Wenger.

  9. A

Yeah he did luke, but he made it superbly, his overall performance was very good, had an awesome dribble, almost scored a nice curler, and absolute class to create that change, though poor to miss it.

yep jaguar, his all round game is far superior, the only thing questionable about him in the last couple of years was not scoring enough goals, but now he’s added goals to his game. Dzeko doesn’t have the all round game for us imo. Cole would be a very good addition, very underrated player.

Saha has scored 10 goals in 12 starts this season, technically very good, all round game is good, and we know he scores goals in the prem.

Gignac is French, and relatively highly rated, shouldn’t be overpriced, though I’ve not seen him enough to be able to have a valid judgement on him one way or the other.

Pandev is class and free, so no problems with availability.

Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger to buy striker in January
Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger will dip into the January transfer market for a striker and will not be put off signing a player who is ineligible for their Champions League campaign.

Pressure has come from a group of board members eager to see the Wenger augment his squad to mount a title challenge in the second half of the season.

Arsenal received some welcome news yesterday when Samir Nasri escaped a three-game ban for his stamp on Hull midfielder Richard Garcia.

Arsene Wenger: Fabregas out for eight to ten days But Wenger still feels the addition of forward power would benefit a team that is likely to be without Robin van Persie until at least April, though he will not be held to ransom.

“Yes, I would sign a striker who is cup-tied,” said Wenger. “We have an interested eye on the transfer window.”

Bordeaux’s Marouane Chamakh, Toulouse striker Andre-Pierre Gignac and West Ham’s Carlton Cole have all been linked with Arsenal in the past six months.

However, Wenger’s willingness to buy a player who has already appeared in the Champions League this season opens up the possibility of Wolfsburg’s Edin Dzeko and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar of AC Milan being targets.

Bayern Munich’s Luca Toni is also available on a free transfer.

There was more good news at the Emirates Stadium when it was revealed captain Cesc Fabregas looks likely to have recovered from a hamstring strain in time for Sunday’s meeting with in-form Aston Villa

  11. BigRaddy

Just more re´hashed media crap. Guess with no games and the Jan window coming, they have to make stuff up.

Nice to see us cited for the fight. Just like the Old Days

  12. WB

pandev will most probably go to inter, imo.
saha would be quality signing, though injury prone but still class, and probably wont cost too much as he is in last six months of his contract.4-5m would be enough.

  13. Samir

I totally would not be in favour of Saha. NO WAY! Not another Man U reject…….

Any of Chamakh, Gigniac,Dezko,C.Cole or Pandev would be good however……

  14. A

If he’s fit to start 3/4 of games, as he has for Everton, and scores close to a goal a game when he does play I’d be happy enough!

  15. Gunners The Stunners

Guys, Ajax have just thrashed a team called WHC by 14-1 in Dutch cup. L. Suarez scored double hat-trick. Unbelievable.

  16. Metal Gear

Geoff this is by far you’re worst post imo you seem very comfortable with the idea Diaby is gonna be our DM and u even try 2 explain this by noting that had he not got injured he would have been first choice during Flamini’s breakthrough season but u fail 2 realize that if Diaby is defensively poor now are u suggesting he would have been better 2 years ago? Diaby has 0 and I mean 0 defensive instincts when he does react it’s just impulse more then a man who understands where 2 be in that crucial position. Secondly why on earth would u wanna blood some1 in this case Jay Thomson we haven’t got time 4 that sort of shit we need 2 win a major trophy cuz I can see Fab, Arsh and even Clichy having there heads turned imagine Barcelona with Clichy and Alves as full backs imagine Xavi (who can play the DM role pretty well), Inesta and Fabregas in midfield then Imagine our number 1 match winner plying his trade elsewhere. If Wenger does not either sign or loan a keeper that’s at least twice as good as Almunia (which wont be difficult 2 find) a CB 4 the sake of cover and stiff competition, a DM in the Y,Toure who Pep clearly doesn’t fancy and Barcelona who have made there intention clear as 2 regards 2 Masherano and bring in a Dzeko or a Dzeko esc type player as Bendtner is pure garbage only then could we be strong enough 2 win a major trophy.

  17. Pat

Aston Villa are the only Premier League team who have never lost at the Emirates Stadium.

Villa have only won one of the last 21 Premier League meetings with Arsenal but that came last season at the Emirates.

None of the last six league meetings between Arsenal and Villa has ended as a home win.

Abou Diaby has scored three goals in five Premier League appearances against Aston Villa, including his first for the club.

John Carew has scored three goals after coming off the bench in the Premier League this season, more than any other player.

Arsenal have scored own goals in their last two league meetings with Villa at the Emirates.

Arsenal have won 11 and lost two of their last 13 Premier League home games – their last draw came in February.

Villa have kept four clean sheets in a row – their longest run in the Premier League is five set in 1998.

Martin O’Neill’s side have won four Premier League games in a row. If they beat Arsenal they will equal their longest ever run set in 1996 and repeated in 1998.

Aston Villa have scored nine headed goals this season, more than any other side and conceded the fewest in this way (one).

This match pits the league’s best attack (Arsenal 44 goals scored) against the best defence (Aston Villa 14 goals conceded).

  18. Roy

What’s the appeal with AW and Manuel the clown. It depresses me to be honest.
    Worst keeper in the league,
Jeepers Creepers were do we find our Keepers..

  19. Baxter Wall

A bit over the top that Roy tbh. Almunia is not in good form but he’s not the worst keeper in the league either.

  20. gambon

I think Almunia is more than likely the worst in the league, he is truely useless.

He has faced less shots than any other keeper all season, yet we have let in 20 goals. A really really poor keeper, no doubt. Lets not forget how he got in, because Lehmans form fell apart, up until then he hadnt got a look in as a number one at any team he’d been at.

  21. A

why would there be a bidding war gambon?! we’ve got just as good a chance as anyone of getting pandev, it’s just a case of where he wants to go

  22. A

Didn’t the whole contract thing happen because Inter wanted him, and he wanted to go, but Lazio wouldn’t accept a bid? Gotta assume whole thing is for him to go to Inter

  23. gambon

A, Hes a top quality player available for free. There will be some stupid offers, as a result Wenger wont get involved.

  24. A

yeah but no transfer fee gambon. Obviously if City got involved they’d offer silly money, but the player won’t necessarily go to the place that offers the most money!

The only previous time someone high profile has been available on a free it was Sol, and Wenger snapped him up despite interest from all the top clubs, and paid him a fair wedge.

Still, would say he’s 90% certain to go to Inter

  25. gambon

If wenger has the choice of a 9 year old congolese kid or Pandev he will almost certainly go for the former.

I reckon he might bring in Melo on 6 month loan with view to buy. Call it a gut feeling.

  26. A

There never is a choice between one or the other gambon, kids getting snapped up doesn’t have anything to do with signing first team squad players.

Melo could be a good shout, if Juve really do want rid, then you never know. A loan would be awesome too.

  27. finestcuts

Why would we not get involved because there are other interested clubs? We have to give it a shot. Because there is no transfer fee involved the club should be able to compete, I mean if we can’t compete for a player on a free transfer what has Arsenal come to?

  28. Samir

    Pandev would be nice.

Melo could be another Bergkamp/Henry signing…. Failed in Italy and dominate here with the right management from Wenger….

Maybe we should do all our Christmas shopping in Italy?
    1) Pandev
    2) Melo
    3) Zapata

  29. Samir

Wenger could be up to it to. He could keep alot of our transfer budget back ready to renew some contracts :)

    1) Pandev– Free
    2) Melo- Loan (If proves well 6M fee arranged?)
    3) Zapata 10-12M

  30. choy

he’s never played here reggie.. so its a risk…

but gilberto was babysitting him the last time i saw him play..

    for the brazilian national team.

  31. A

Thinking about it, Melo still starts pretty much every match for Juve, no chance of them letting him go anywhere on loan, and if/when he went permanently they’d want a decent sized transfer fee considering they paid over 20 mil Euros for him 6 months ago. A good £12-£16 mil minimum I reckon.

  32. A

Fabianski is the main man gambon, he’ll take over soon, Almunia number two until the summer when szczesny will take over, unless he goes on loan somewhere

  33. gambon

    A. I personally dont rate Fabianski that highly, good second choice, no more.

I also think Szczesny will have a season loan next year, hopefully at a high level.

  34. Samir

I doubt Wenger would go for a midfielder anyhow.
Striker is the only real position he would reinforce, that is unless Sendy does leave in Jan.

In the Summer we’ll defiantly buy atleast 1 CB maybe 2 if Gallas leaves as well as SILVESTRE who is defiantly off.(Crossed fingers)

  35. gambon

    reggie,

He’s like a cross between Denilson & Song. Tougher & bigger & more agressive than Denilson but not as defensive as Song.

  36. A

I don’t see how anyone rates him as a good second choice gambon?

He’s either a very very talented keeper with alot of potential, capable of the spectacular, but who makes mistakes, or he’s just a hopeless keeper who makes mistakes and doesn’t have the potential to get over them. Surely you want a number two to be solid and reliable?

I agree, szczesny may well have another season on loan next year, depends what he’s like when he returns. He could spend the second half of this season on loan somewhere at a higher level….

Akinfeev, Neuer, Frey are all far from guaranteed to be good keepers in the prem, so they would be a risk.

I expect Fabianski to iron out the mistakes, and he’ll be one hell of a keeper in a short space of time.

  37. A

Samir i wouldn’t compare him to Mikel. He’s much more aggressive, and very dirty. Mikel is dirty, but not as aggressive.

Big strong, aggressive, but not very bright, generally plays with another DM who’s a better reader of the game

  38. Samir

Arsenal are keeping an eye on the evolution of Felipe Melo’s current troubles at Juventus amid reports claiming the Brazilian is set for a January exit.

Itasportpress claims Melo could be shipped out just six months after his €25 million summer transfer from Fiorentina with Arsenal waiting to pounce. He has become unsettled at the club, with voices suggesting a strained relationship with coach Ciro Ferrara has festered following his substitution after just 32 minutes against Catania on Sunday.

The downturn in Turin has fuelled speculation that Melo could be shipped out, and Arsenal are on standby. The Premier League club fought alongside Juventus during the summer, and they were close to landing the midfielder. However, it was Juve who won the battle for his signature and came away with their man.

But Melo has failed to fulfil expectations thus far, with a number of rumours claiming a move to Arsenal will revive his career. Earlier, Brazil coach Carlos Dunga claimed Juve “were ruining the player’s career”, as he voiced his World Cup concerns.

  39. A

Samir he did do well in Italy though, Italy is where he’s been at his best, but at Fiorentina, he’s just not been very good since he moved to Juve.

  40. Samir

Fabianki has never been given a real chance though really….

He really missed out when Almunia got injured and Mannone took over.

If Fabianski had been fit then we could be in a total different position now!

  41. A

Yeah Samir, Wenger even kept the place for him imo, keeping in Mannone until Fabianski was fit, so that he could take over after the Spuds league cup game, but then he got injured so Wenger was forced to stick in Almunia, and now it’s more difficult to displace him. It’ll happen soon though I reckon.

  42. AA23

    Carlton Cole?
    fuck off!
Why do people only ever want to buy players that scored against us? scoring against us is easy doesnt make a plyer any good. And Cole isnt any good.

  43. Samir

If Dzeko really is available then he would be the first striker on my list….
IMO he is better in all aspects of the game compared to Carlton Cole….. And less injury prone!

  44. reggie57

Adriano was a great player a few years back now too much of a disruptive influence imo

Imagine him in london too many night clubs welcoming him with open arms,no i dont think so!!

  45. A

He’s a great finisher reggie, but doesn’t have anything like the all round game to fit in with our system, or our players. He’s a great player, and could do superbly at the right team, but not with us.

That’s before we even start to get into the fact that he’d cost silly money, and he’s totally unproven in a top league, so would be a big risk.

AA23 I disagree totally regarding Cole, one of the most underrated players around imo. His link up play and intelligence has always been very good, and now he’s started scoring goals he’s got it all. I reckon he’d be superb for us, though probably unlikely because he’d be overpriced being English and in the prem.

  46. Samir

Dzeko is also younger at 23.
He has scored 41 in 77 appearances for Wolfsburg.
14 in 23 appearances for Bosnia and Herzegovina :)

  47. AA23

A you normally make a lot of sense on here and you clearly know your football.
But Carlton Cole isnt underated, he’s rated correctly, as shit.

  48. gambon

Cole is OK but just a bit of a blunder bus, not really what we need.

Dzeko is superb, only problem is RVP would find himself on the bench when he returns.

  49. A

Samir he’s much slower, and his link up play is worse, he’s a much better finisher though.

reggie i don’t think he’s a disruptive influence as such, not seen reports of him arguing with teammates, or being a dick like robinho, he just has personal problems that affected his own game for years and hurt his own performances. If he’s over them then he’d be a good acquisition.

  50. A

We’ll see AA23, imo he should be leading the line for England, he has everything Heskey did at his best, but better link up play on the deck, and now he scores a fair few goals as well.

Very intelligent in build up play, and good touch, which is unusual for a big man like him.

    Cole has everything imo.

  51. reggie57

So in your opinion A who will we be most likely to sign then ? as every one seems out of our price range…
Are you sure you are not related to AW

  52. A

Dunno reggie, most likely would be someone like Gignac I guess. Cole may not be THAT much out of price range, Dzeko is the flavour of the month so would be ridiculously priced. Saha could be a possibility, and i’d be happy with that.

  53. A

He’s their best player SUGA, and a late developer. If he stays fit and keeps scoring goals as he has recently, he’ll play at the top level.

  54. SUGA3

    Saha?

I think it was about trying to win the title – buying secondhand Manure rejects is not necessarily the way to get there, but that’t just my opinion ;)

  55. A

His all round game has always been superb, pace, power, great intelligence and link up play, brings others into play very well but never scored enough goals, which is why he didn’t make it at Chelsea. If he keeps scoring goals now he could become a top top player, and would be awesome for us.

Much more to work with imo than Ade had, Wenger could do miracles with Cole.

  56. gambon

Ill start by saying im not a huge Carloton Cole fan….but if you look at Didier Drogba, they have a similar style, and Drogba has a similar scoring record prior to joinging Chelsea, and Drogba didnt start playing for IC til he was 24-25.

If we could get our own Drogba than superb*

*I dont for one second think Cole is a Drogba.

  57. SUGA3

if he stays fit and that is a massive IF – he is said to have some underlying injury that just won’t go away…

we can surely do without another sicknote…

  58. A

reggie, i mean the saha who’s 4th top scorer in the league this year with 10 goals in 12 starts, for a side who’s struggled a fair bit this season.

  59. SUGA3

    A,

it is usually easier for the decent striker to score playing for the opposition presumed to be a lesser one, as opposition hardly ever parks the bus – Keane at Spuds and Pool may be a good example of this…

  60. A

Well despite his injury proneness he’s scored more goals than any of our players this season, if he continued to do that with the more chances that he’d get for us, then I’d be very happy!

  61. SUGA3

I don’t want any player that has a tiniest glimpse of injury waiting to happen…

considering Rosicknote’s case, buying another crock would be the dumbest thing to do, given the limited funds…

one who buys cheaply buys twice, simple as…

  62. Sion De Freitas

I think A is on to something in what he says about Dzeko, but of the games I have seen him play in, he seems to have a competent enough link up play to be able to play in our team.

Carlton Cole is definitely underrated IMO.

  63. A

We’re getting someone in whilst VP is out, as back up for Bendtner! It isn’t like whoever we sign is going to play every game of the season for a number of years….

  64. SUGA3

    A,

you know RvP would surpass him by now without breaking sweat if he was fit, don’t you?

no, no and for zillion times no…

  65. A

    Cheers Sion.

Owen Hargreaves isn’t the 4th top goalscorer in the league this season AA23, though if he’d played enough this season to be one of the top players in his position in the league, I’d love to have him here. Likewise Ledley King, if he’d been fit most of the season and looked like he could stay fit, I’d love to take him if available on the cheap.

  66. A

SUGA VP might’ve surpassed him by now, but they’d be on something similar. He’d do a job for us imo as a stop gap whilst vp is out

  67. SUGA3

his goalscoring stats at Manure when he was in his prime are 28 goals in 86 games…

fuck me, it’s comparable to Kenwyne Jones for S’land (23 in 76) and you just can’t compare these 2 clubs, can you?

  68. gambon

    A,

The thing is no players gonna join us as a 6 month stop gap. As arsene said this week, any striker he signs has to be able to play for us in the long term.

Said it before & i’ll say it again…Mirko Vucinic.

  69. reggie57

The thing is SUGA when is rvp gonna be fit? after this latest enforced injury what chance will he reach the standards he has set this season….

  70. SUGA3

    gambon,

IMO not good enough and not too prolific either…

27 goals in 101? his best haul for the season was 17 goals – we need to do better than that…

  71. A

SUGA3 if you’re claiming that saha was in his prime at utd then you’re just trying to manipulate things for the sake of your argument! Same as counting sub appearances as matches!

    08/09 6 in 10(14)
    07/08 5 in 6(11)
    06/07 8 in 18(6)
    05/06 7 in 12(7)
    04/05 1 in 7(7)
    03/04 20 in 28(4)

he’s never had a bad scoring record

    Jones

    08/09 10 in 25(4)
    07/08 7 in 33
    06/07 14 in 26(9)
    05/06 4 in 17(17)

If saha is able to stay fit he’s got a very good scoring record, and has so far this season. imo he’d be a very good stop gap, and since the rumours started the idea has really grown on me

still, it’s lunacy to spend any serious wonga for another Manure reject and a injury prone one for that matter…

we need a player who will be able to play in CL next season – do you seriously think that he is still capable of that?

    SUGA

He is a winger / striker playing in a lower scoring league. He is quick, very skillful, can play in behind & drift wide.

Put it this way, he’s way more classy than Chamakh.

He is like a quicker Van Persie with more tendency to go in behind.

gambon wenger didn’t say that any player who comes in has to be for the long term at all.

He said IF someone is cup tied for the Champs League, but is a player who would be a long term acquisition, then it wouldn’t rule him out.

SUGA3 that’s not true, his first season at Utd, which is the only time he’s been fit for over half a season, he scored 20 league goals!

    gambon,

quicker RvP? you’ve gotta be kidding – it’s the Serie A that makes him look quick, that’s all…

    A,

‘…which is the only time he’s been fit for over half a season…’
