Prove to me you don’t need a new striker

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Oh – oh, the latest rallying cry was for Arsene Wenger to challenge his team to prove he doesn’t need a new striker, a big target man is not neccessary, here we go again, one week we’re all excited, the next we’re all thinking, bollocks, not another season down the pan.

Arsene, we have lost 2 strikers permanently, Ade and Robin. Eduardo is injured every other game and that may stop him getting back to being the player we bought and Bendtner is out for at least a month, and we all know that could be more, Theo is injury prone so can’t be relied on so that leaves just Arshavin.

And you don’t think we need to sign a striker? Help!!! Maybe have a word with Wrighty7, he has a good idea!

It seems that Johan Cruyff wants Cesc released to represent Catalunia in a friendly over Christmas, Wenger has told him to whistle dixie, well done Arsene. Why Cruyff, how long has he been Spanish?

Please don’t tell me he played and managed Barca, I was being ironic and bitter!

Rafa has got himself into another row, this time with loudmouth’s Souness and cheater Klinsmann, I have to say I’m backing Rafa on this one, but this row could not have come at a better time, lets hope he gets distracted.

We may have Diaby back tomorrow so that could make my selection prediction closer, I think we really have suffered from a lack of height and he may well prove to be what we need, I hope he has one of those Villa type of games and not the Manc type that cost us.

I like Diaby and believe he can be a big player for us, he just needs to know when to pass the ball, he already knows when to shoot.

With two away games on the trot coming up, a win tomorrow will set the ball rolling nicely, we really are playing them at a good time, if we maintain our passing we can roll them over, beware the chav type game, we had 65% possession there and lost, still Liverpool don’t have a Drogba do they? They only have a Torres, Ha, ha!

Ho hum, what price a Gerrard penalty anyone?

Let’s hope the results go our way today and tomorrow we are playing for something with an edge to it.

Have a great day Grovers, tomorrow is but a day away.

well A look at the leader board who is 1st and 2nd ?

    mr facts man !

that means on paper they are more consistent STILL than any other ..

plus i think we should be more concerned with our own problems dont you think ?

  2. Paulinho

What a wanker Adebayor is. Tevez scores the equaliser, everyone goes to celebrate with him except Adebayor, who walks off like nothing has happened.

  3. SUGA3

come on A, losing to Citeh should never have happened – there is no excuse whatsoever…

about the loss to Manure – it was pretty much self inflicted, as we have few fucking clowns in the squad: Al should have taken a leaf out of Boruc’s book and learn to take the arms away like the latter did, making Dudu look like a mug…

  4. ethangunner

    A

ethan if we were home tomorrow i’d put money on us to give them a beating.
    —————————-
well now youve confirmed that , im not so sure anymore if we would win :)

  5. A

ethan win our games in hand and we’re level on points with utd and ahead on goal difference….

I don’t consider us to have big problems we need to be concerned with

SUGA City havn’t lost at home for nearly a year now, they just beat chelsea. It shouldn’t have happened in terms of the fact we outplayed them, and we did throw it away, but a loss away there is a game before the start of the season that you’d look at as a potential loss

  6. SUGA3

    A,

each to his own – Jones is big, strong, agile, has good attitude and should be affordable…

not what we need? I beg to differ – we could do with a battering ram upfront, such players draw attention from more than one defender, he should be able to create space for Arshavins and Velas of this world…

miles better than Carlton Cole IMO…

  7. ethangunner

    suga

i still think alumina’s poor keeping doesnt help
us during set pieces … really for the whole 90 minute match actually … :)

he is not world class AT ALL , and our team requires one. Id already give fab2 the reigns he couldnt do much worse REALLY!

  8. A

SUGA big, strong I agree, agile though?!

I wouldn’t mind someone like him as a plan B, but never to start.

imo Carlton Cole is a way way better footballer, and more what we need because he’s more intelligent, much much quicker, and makes runs in behind as well.

    —————————————
A whilst i do acknowledge your back door approach to winning the EPL by avoiding the big names yet getting more points from lesser games ,YES in theory it could work , but the problem is you have to be more consistent in the lesser matches ..

    WHICH WE STILL AINT !

we all know the chev’s and manc’s had hic-ups
    this weekend …

Dont think liverpool hasnt noticed that fact either !

  10. SUGA3

    ethan,

that is what I meant actually – Almunia is not good enough, as far as his overall game is concerned – good shot stopper and that’s it – we need an international, given that the outfield department is beefed up, I would go for Fabianski with Szczesny as no.2…

  11. A

we’ve dropped points in two games this season against lesser sides ethan. Utd have dropped points in 3, Chelsea 3, so we’re more consistent than them thus far….

  12. SUGA3

    A,

no he ain’t – Jones scores one in two games, Cole one in three at best…

and yes, he is quite agile for a big fella – pisses all over Ade in this department and is more of a team player…

  13. ethangunner

i like carton cole but your still aiming too low , plus he’s english wenger would never go for it .. and you know it ..

he will go for numbchucks – dzeko or benzema
prior to going for a english lad ..

and i bet you wenger will have a bid on benzema if they do offer him out 2 man U in 2 weeks …
we will probably fail negotiations however , but i think wenger is interested in his fellow countryman !

  14. SUGA3

how on earth did you come to a conclusion that we are more consistent that MU & Chavs?

I’ll have some of what you’re smoking

    ——————————–
yes weve lost 4 out of 5 games also !
your right ..we are consistent :)

  16. A

SUGA3 this season Cole has 7 in 13, Jones 5 in 12. Cole has a much better all round game too. He used to be a very good link player but didn’t score enough, but he’s really matured and has now added goals to his game, he has much more to his game than Jones.

ethan the fact that Cole is English would probably mean he would be very overpriced, so yeah it would be pretty unlikely.

I don’t see us being able to afford Benzema, nor Madrid being willing to sell him

  17. bk

i would love to have jones with us.he wouldnt have to play in all games but there are a lot of matches he would be a huge asset

  18. A

lol SUGA you not read what I wrote?!

This far we have dropped points in 2 games against lesser sides
Utd and Chelsea have dropped points in 3 games against lesser sides

Therefore we’ve been more consistent against lesser sides, and that’s factual, not a matter of opinion….

lol ethan as if you can count the league cup and champs league games as first team losses, or having any relevance to the first team! We did lose two on the trot though, which wasn’t great obviously.

  19. SUGA3

    A,

Jones did not score as many, as he is there mostly to create space for his partner…

plus, you have to compare the respective clubs’ fixture list so far and league positions ;)

and the consistency cannot be split between playing bigger and smaller teams – that is some serious smoke and mirror shit…

  20. A

I agree SUGA3 – Cole has done that in a team really struggling at the bottom of the table, whereas Jones is playing in a team that’s been doing very well this season!

Obviously it can be split between playing big teams and small teams, they’re completely different occasions!

Against the smaller teams thus far we’re more consistent than Utd and Chelsea, and if we continue that then we’ll give ourselves a very good chance of the title, as long as we don’t get beaten at home by the big teams as we have away.

  21. A

Because that would be breaking our transfer record Goonerman, for a player who is good but nowhere near THAT good. And 2 days ago Wenger said we won’t be breaking our transfer record for a new signing!

  22. A

Just because Utd paid over the odds for Valencia doesn’t mean we’re suddenly going to be willing to pay double a player’s worth! £10-£12 mil would be doable for Cole, but I don’t believe we’d go over that, certainly nowhere near £20 mil, and I also don’t believe West Ham would sell him for what we’d be willing to pay, he’s far too important to them.

Much more likely would be someone like Gignac

  23. Goonerman

well I was quoted £20m but the price is irrelevant. Cole is a planned purchase. WHu need the cash badly and can replace Cole easily with what they get for him.

  24. SUGA3

    A,

what I was getting at was that Sunderland arguably had tougher games, so Bruce must be doing something right…

this may have something to do with having a few MEN in the team – I would pinch Cana & Jones from them and they could have Diaby & Denilson ;)

  25. A

Goonerman if that’s true I’d be happy about it, Cole would be a very good signing imo. Wenger could do wonders with him, more ability than Ade imo, be good for the English national team too!

SUGA3 imo Cana isn’t fit to clean Diaby and Denilson’s boots!

  26. SV

Compared to the previous season’s similar games, we are 3 points ahead. In the games comparable to the next 3, we gained 4 points last year. If we get 7 points this year, we will be on the way to get more than 80 points in the season which means the title challenge. I would be happy with a drow tomorrow, but think we will lose as we do in every single important game.

  27. A

speaking of midfielders who are nowhere near good enough on the ball to even dream about playing for us – muamba today was hilarious on the break with bolton, he really can’t kick a ball properly to save his life!

  28. SUGA3

    bk,

I would rather have a player who would not take time to adjust to the Prem but one to hit the ground running…

besides, Wolfsburg would skin us alive…

  29. SV

    bk,
yes, a bit negative. We are more consistant against weaker teams, especially at home, and this means a lot. But our speciality is also to provide our troubled bigger opponents a chance to kickstart their season because beating Arsenal is a big moral boost.

  30. A

bk i really rate Cole, he’s got what Jones has, the size, strength, aerial ability, but he’s also got good technique, good link up play, and is quick and makes runs in behind.

We can’t have someone slow like Jones or Dzeko imo, it just wouldn’t work.

SUGA3 we’d destroy Wolfsburg! Decent team in a substandard league! They couldn’t even beat Utd’s joke of a team in Germany!

  31. A

imo Cole JUST has the all round game to be able to play for us, the pace, intelligence, technique, as well as the size and strength of a big man. He’s borderline, but his all round game is far better than Jones’, and Dzeko is imo too slow, and not good enough when it comes to his link up play.

  32. SUGA3

    A,

yes, we would crap all over Wolfsburg on the pitch, I was referring to transfer dealings: you just don’t sell your star player for peanuts to someone who is known/rumoured to have pleanty of dough – the very moment you hear the ‘offer’ of £12.50, you just laugh the fucker out of the room

  33. A

ah ok suga3. Yeah Wolfsburg would create an auction for Dzeko, and big money would be offered by teams for whom money doesn’t matter, therefore we’d be priced out of the market. He’ll almost certainly end up at Milan, though whether in January or the summer may depend on whether they can find anyone willing to pay for Huntelaar

  34. A

it depends what you’re talking about bk. Theo has a very good footballing brain imo. Off the ball his intelligence is absolutely exceptional, his movement is as good as ljungberg’s was imo, and he usually makes the right decisions too in terms of what ball to play, but it’s his composure which is lacking more than anything else.

We need pace and we need someone who will run in behind, that’s currently holding us back more than being physically weak or small imo.

  35. SUGA3

    A,

Theo failed to win a single one on one since he came – what is the point of having pace if that’s the case? to hit the brickwall harder?

that is why we need some battering rams to create space for speed merchants…

  36. bk

A now you are talking thru your hat mate,,,he is a clown.ade wasnt as bad as theo at losing possesion .and theo loses it further back the pitch.if he wasnt the next great white hope hed be getgting booed worse than ebuoe

  37. A

what do you mean a one on one suga3? his pace is combined with his intelligence off the ball to get him in behind the opposition defence. He’s not match fit, but even playing with the kids midweek he got in behind 3-4 times. That’s going to be his game, and in this system he’ll get a good 10 plus goals in the second half of the season, and set up a fair few too

  38. reggie57

Why is it we are being priced out of every transfer target? is it because we are potless, or is it AWs valueation which is set in the 19th century!!

  39. Pat

Senderos to Bayern, Mexes to Arsenal?

Anyway, do you guys believe there is any hope of Villa coming to Arsenal. Of all the big names, I see him as the most probable since Cesc can influence Wenger, hopefully.

He can play in the CL. I wish the directors of Valencia weren’t such cunts and they let the player choose. No way is he worth what they’re asking for.

  40. Pat

Theo should play striker, no matter what. He’s a useless winger. His movement is similar to Owens, although his finishing is shit.

Overall, he hasn’t improved much since he came.

  41. A

Pat I see his movement as being similar to ljungberg more than owen. Starting out wide and darting through the middle, makes it harder to mark, and I prefer him out wide. I wouldn’t say his finishing is shit either, he just lacks composure and panics at times, but when he’s relaxed his finishing can be class, Vilarreal was amazing

  42. SUGA3

    A,

how can you gauge Theo’s current ability from a game aginst a shit and unmotivated side like Olympiakos on the night – how about him bouncing off Chavs each and every time he ran at someone?

on top of that, he is just another square peg in round hole – should be played on the left to shoot with his right peg…

  43. A

I’m not SUGA3, I’m using that as an example of main strength, not as a guage of his ability.

Against Chelsea last year it was the same for the first half hour, got through time and time again, but his final ball needs to improve because of his panicking.

I like him on the left too, though there are pros and cons depending on which side he’s on, on the right he’ll get more assists, on the left he’ll get more goals.

I think if he stays fit for a while now he’ll give us something different that we’ve been lacking recently.

  44. bk

suga he bugged the shit out of me in that match too…
losing possession constantly and he only has one trick! sonic boom .and if no space…0 tricks

  45. SUGA3

‘…I wouldn’t say his finishing is shit either, he just lacks composure and panics at times, but when he’s relaxed his finishing can be class…’

relaxed? are you serious? he is not on fucking holiday, he gets paid to play…

  46. Gooby

maybe theo just needs the extra confidence. when he was new at the club, exciting english talent satuts, everyone was behind him and he was playing better back then imo

if fans chant his name and encourage him, he may perform better

  47. bk

A , got through time and time again, but his final ball needs to improve because of his panicking.

basically hes not worth a wank!

  48. Pat

theo was actual a decent dribbler at SOuthampton.

He should use Torres’s strategy. Run at defenders, slow down, and automatically accelerate again.

  49. A

Nah Gooby, that’s only because they’ve put in all the supposed niggles that are nothing! Theo, Cesc, Arshavin, Traore, Eduardo, Diaby, Gallas are all ok, so there should only be 7 there. Would put us down in 3rd! Rosicky inaccurate too, he’s only 10 days not 9th Jan return!

It’s because we’re a self-sustaining football club rather than a rich man’s play thing reggie
    ———————————-
your only a stable club if your fan base is growing , not on a decline !

and any future football fans who are not from north London wont jump on board to be a fan of AFC because we are NOT WINNERS any longer ..

liverpool have a HUGE fan base still in thailand because they used to win things decades ago .. they wont get any new fans now either .. now theres more chelsea and man U stickers on cars than ever before ..

no need to tell me how popular we are ..
go to any football section of a department store
they have man U shite and chev shite .. and thats it …

ok occasionally liverpool or barca ..
i can see how well our club has progressed over the past 5 years A …

i dont need you too cook up some stats that try and bring a silver lining to your argument .

the facts remain we are on the edge of 4th spot
and if we lose tonight .. we will lose ground and possibly kill off our chances of C.L football !

and the truth is the stats that count like POINTS on the EPL ladder is the only shit you should care about !!!

  51. SUGA3

    bk,

someone who would scare the shit out of the bruisers by his very presence: Invincibles were big and PV4 was the enforcer…

but Wenger got the idea that he should fix what was not broken…

  52. ethangunner

    A

….and also going by your rational of avoiding the top 4 but still being consistent , well that could work for the spuds too couldnt it !

to remove us of our C.L spot ..

there is reason for HUGEEEEEEEEEE concern currently A and if you cant see it …
    well…..

    no comment

  53. bk

A if your not from north london and you are 4 or 5 you are not going to see good football, your going to see silverware..cups remeber them

  54. ethangunner

    A

everywhere ! around the world , NOT THE UK !
china – shen zheng – russia – hong kong – thailand ok lets say asia .. australia ..
    even the USA ….

you need to get out more A !~

  55. SUGA3

and funny thing is that Denilson has fuck all pace and – despite big improvement to his overall game – Song is not a sprinter either…

  56. Pat

Cana is a very mediocre player.

We lost against Sunderland, but we dominated the midfield and Song made Cana look like the pub player he really is.

Cana, are you taking the piss?

  57. A

Yeah ethan i don’t see that – I see us as being in the best state we’ve been in in the clubs history so the need for “HUGEEEEEEEEEE concern” is pretty limited in my eyes!

bk Cana went to Sunderland because he isn’t a very good footballer, poor technique, no footballing brain, all he can do is kick people. He isn’t nearly good enough for a team close to our level.

No bk you’ve got it the wrong way round – if i consider a player too slow then i don’t fancy him for us….

  58. Pat

Problem is, Fletcher is useless once he gets a yellow card. And only United get the special privileges where he never gets a yellow

  59. SUGA3

    Pat,

he is much better than Denilson though and at £5M he was a steal – trust me, we will be going like ‘why the fuck did we not buy Cana’ watching Denilson getting raped by any half decent midfielder when Song fucks off to ACN…

  60. A

in fact there are a number of criteria on which i judge a player, and if there’s a fundamental attribute that a player lacks then I don’t want us to sign him. I prefer that criteria for analysing players rather than just parrotting the papers and blogs, or hitching rides on bandwagon after bandwagon!

Anyways, past my bedtime, nite people

  61. A

SUGA3 he’s nowhere near as good as Denilson imo. He’s stronger, and more aggressive, that’s all he has going for him over Denilson, who’s better in every other area of his game!

  62. SUGA3

    A,

have youy seen Cana ‘kicking people’ in the Prem?

he got booked 5 times – compare to Song with 4, does he kick people?

  63. Pat

Cana is stronger than Denilson, thats it. He’s not a better tackler even though he’s a natural CDM.

Denilson will break up play more often than Cana, using his intelligence.
Denilson will provide more assists and goals
Denilson won’t lose you the game with a stupid tackle

  64. SUGA3

    A,

like which area? pace? strength? and don’t start with this ‘positional awareness’ nonsense – like I said earlier that counts for fuck all if you get knocked off the ball most of the times…

and we could do with some aggression, as right now we are just a bunch of pansies…

  65. luke

What striker is Wenger realistically going to buy. Hes obviously not going to buy David Villa, Pav, horse face, dzeko. Would he really buy cole or gignac. They are decent players but an answer to rvp? uhhhh. I trust wenger when it comes to buying players, he really did good the last two transfer windows with verminator and arsh, but shit, I just cant seem to find any reasonable targets…

  66. SUGA3

    luke,

how about you name a few players that are:

    - not garbage
    - more or less available
    - within Ebenezer’s price range?

    huh?

  67. bk

different strokes for different folks, cana or “other like” dont have to be great passers once they give it to cesc ..10 yards away

  68. luke

thats my question if you bothered to read my post…Im talking about strikers not dm. There are no good available dm’s around to my knowledge. Matuidi has hype but he is under 6 ft so I wouldnt want him too bad. Cana is nothing but a thug, we need a thug who can also contribute something else IMO.

  69. SUGA3

    luke,

you don’t become a captain of Olympique just because of being a thug…

I am yet to see anything thuggish from him (bar the YT video, that is)…

  70. luke

hahaha bk. Ill post some flyers. ;) .

SUGA- He probably has a good footballing attitude, and he does play with a certain intensity, but he really isnt that good when it comes to football IMO. Agree to disagree i guess

  71. SUGA3

and yes, quality players are available, but we just don’t pay good money for players, do we?

I say fuck resale value, sometimes you need to spend some money on quality without the embarassment of Arshavin like saga and sometimes finances have to be used…

  72. luke

I wish stuttgart didnt buy pogrebnyak. We could have gotten him on a free. Ive seen him play for Russia and we could use him. Tall, strong, presence in the box, good heading, and decent footwork surprisingly. Not to mention a decent finish.

  73. luke

we are much too soft this season. We need more verminators on this team. Denilson, a dm who needs to play with a very high intensity, is more likely to hug someone then injure him. Walcott, rosicky, and eduardo seem to get injured every other game. We are a glass team, need some steel.

  74. luke

Suga, I rate Dzeko. Think he could do wonders with a good passing team around him. Wenger wont go for it though. I cant think of a striker that is good enough to full rvps boots and cheap enough for wenger. Wenger! Youre crazy!

  75. Pat

Crab football with Denilson. ha, and you’re calling for Cana?!?! Clueless

Matuidi, Makoun, M’Bia, Denisov, Flamini, Moussa Sissoko, the list is endless SUGA

Sissoko is my favorite, followed by Flamini and Matuidi.

  76. luke

Suga- Either Cetin or Subotic I think would be great CB’s. Cetin scares Drogba, and Subotic is 6 ft 4, and plays similar to vidic IMO. CF- Dzeko.

    Almunua
    Sagna-Cetin-Vermy-Clichy
    ———Song————–
    —–Cesc——-Nasri
    –Rosicky–Dzeko—Arshavin

…need I say more. Lets whip out the wallet.

  77. SUGA3

    clueless? jaja sobie robisz?

Cana oozes confidence unlike Denilson who is a bag of nerves and plays it safe each and every time and needs a fucking nanny in the shape of Song…

mark my words, we won’t capitalise on Chavs having their beasts away on ACN, as we will be lightweight as fuck and vulnerable to kicking from Boltons of this world…

  78. luke

    bk

    1. I never said anything positive about denilson. I dont rate him at all. He is a horrible passer, weak, lacks concentration. I would like to get him out and replace him with Matuidi as they are similar but matuidi is more in the flamini role and overall better.
    2. The correct way to write that sentence is “luke what would HAVE been wrong”
    3. Cana is not a good footballer. He plays with intensity, and is overagressive (thug). Those are good traits but when you have no talent to back them up…well, why bother?

  79. SUGA3

    luke,

simple question: given there are no other options would you choose Denilson or Cana?

and stop this bull about him lacking footballing ability – Wenger wanted to sign him a few years ago, would he want to sign a thug just for being a thug? please…

  80. luke

Ill compromise. I would rather have cana then denilson, but that is not saying much guys. We are the arsenal, not fing sunderland for god sakes.

Suga- Wenger obviously didnt want to sign him that bad seeing as how we didnt…

  81. SUGA3

Wenger wanted to sign him a few years back, but there was some issue with obtaining work permit (Cana held Albanian passport back then)…

this time around he would not sign him, as it would mean getting rid of some of his ‘wonderkids’…
