So first things first, I don’t think that Wenger would bring in RVN, it’s not that he was a problem for us in his Manc days, it’s because he’s injury prone, and we have almost 10 players like that already, I wouldn’t be surprised though, if as usual, he bought no one.
There are plenty of players that would come, he won’t pay for them though, Milan would, and they are not in our league, no Italian club is, yet the press still refer to them as a giants.
If it were my money (actually, it is!) and I had to juggle need, want, and balance that against Wenger’s stingyness I would do no more than go out and bring back Paddy and Thierry, they would snap his hand off, for a season or two they would be perfect, they would also help the kids, so they’d be no killing, they are also Arsenal to the core (unlike Anelka) they would be like the ManU signing of Larsson and the crowd would love it. REALLY, LOVE IT!
Imagine Paddy protecting Cesc and Henry alongside Arshavin, I’m salivating as I write, fantasy blogging if you will.
Then the following season they could join the coaching staff, bring back Dennis and we then have a succession, and perhaps my friends that’s precisely why it won’t happen, as Wenger has to be the centre of attention, that’s why he has the mild mannered Pat Rice sitting next to him, that’s not a slight on Pat, I love Pat, but he is very quiet and I’m not sure Paddy would be the same, and the crowd may start singing their names if the team is having a wobble.
Anyway, sausage and sizzle, a sausage will sell itself as it’s a commodity, but with good branding (ads) the sausages will sell much easier (sizzle) and the public will become brand loyal, so the branded sausage will outsell its non branded rival.
Now for our team, read great sausage, in other words the ingredients are all there, nothing wrong with the forward line save it’s a bit small, now if they were given the right service (sizzle) we would take teams apart, like we did against Stoke, where it could have been 10, not 2.
What??? I hear you say, okay, take the chav game, there we were, ripping them new arseholes and when it came to the final ball, we whipped in high ones that went nowhere other than onto their defenders heads or straight to their very ugly, helmeted keeper.
How should we have played then? Well, like the spuds did yesterday, Aaron Lennon whipped in at least 6 crosses that bounced on the floor in front of the dwarf named Defoe, everytime Lennon crossed, I thought they would score, nothing went high, they all came in low and curling, and if the spuds were any good they would have won 6-2, they aren’t, so they didn’t, but I did wonder why with our vertically challenged front line, we don’t adopt the same tactic, either that or buy a player that can do that, Roberto Carlos used to be able to do that for Madrid, Alves can and Cole did it to us twice, neither ball was higher than the waist.
That’s it then, the closest I’ll ever come to giving a spud and a phone receiving chav a compliment, solving Wenger’s problem and saving Arsenal millions in the transfer window.
All that though rests on the stubborness of one man and his silly girl like rules. Arsene, that would be one decision the fans would never give you shit for, bringing back two of Arsenal’s greatest ever legends to save our season would elevate you to even greater greatness, I know the English is bad, but hey, you get the gist!
Call them today Arsene, sound them out, Thierry needs a home before the world cup and Paddy needs to play to get to the world cup, and us, well we need them like never before and we don’t want to kill the kids, do we???
Oh and of course, you save money.
Have a great day Grovers, we clawed ourselves back in the race and we went ahead of Spurs, a perfect weekend!

Chipo – I think so too! And if any manager can get the best out of someone, I hate to say it but its Wenger!!
RayG and his stats – a class apart.
Keep up the good work mate. *hi-five*
vela and eduardo are unarguably talented forwards but the physicality of the premiership is making things hard for them.
wenger hasnt exactly helped of recent by playing them on their own in attack. the 433 we have been playing of recent has been more 451. even arsh was so isolated at times on saturday and this was just stoke at home
Fran saturday was a 4-5-1 and not 4-3-3
We basically played with five midfielders and a lone striker
what’s the status of Chiellini? We did well with Vermy (another RvP contestant.)
I like the idea of a new CB (an experienced monster who could come straight in and play) and moving Vermy to DM. Then if the CB’s have an injury Vermy moves back and a rested Song moves in as DM.
That and a battering ram to give us Plans B & C in attack.
Guys, I have a SUPER plan.
We have 40 m from Ade and Kolo sales.
5m-Jaskelainen or Sorensen
10m-Cetin from Galata
Pandev-5m he is out of Lazio in January
Sissoko from Toluse for 20m- big, strong powerful , old fasioned cdm in Vieira style. Sorted.
And please stop this crap that we are skint.
Ready made Rosicky replacement!
The agent of Arda Turan Ahmet Bulut told TodaysZaman.com:
“Arda needs to go. And it would be much better for him if he were to leave as the captain of Galatasaray. What more can Arda really give this club? Every season here, Arda plays in the championships.
“And even if Arda were not here, the team would still be a championship contender. Both Emre Belözoglu and Hakan Sükür were playing, and then they too went, but Galatasaray was still a champion. For Arda to go and play on an important team abroad would not belittle Galatasaray, but would actually make it greater. And nothing could be better than that. It should be examined not only from a trade perspective, but also from the perspective of prestige.
“But if there is an offer, I think the club needs to consider it thoroughly and then maybe sell him. If they decide not to, however, I respect that too. Because after all, he does have a contract, and the contract needs to be fulfilled, otherwise, what use are contracts?”
Sport.co.uk spoke to Ahmet Bulut regarding his client’s link with Arsenal:
“At this moment in time I have no contact with any clubs. I had a lot of interest in the summer for him, but the club did not want to sell him, even for £50 or a £100 million. Arda is the best player in Turkey at the moment. He is now the new captain of Galatasaray and the club has new elections for President in March, so I don’t think he will be sold in January. However, I do think he will be sold in July. I think they will sell him in the summer.
“There are lots of big European clubs interested in him. In the summertime Arsenal made contact, but the club did not want to sell. We also had offers from Spain, Italy and Germany.”
When asked if he thought Arsene Wenger would rekindle his interest in the player, Bulut replied:
“I hope so. He is interested in working under Arsene Wenger because he is very good at working with young players, and Arda wants to work in England. As I said there was interest from other clubs around Europe but his first choice is England.
“Arsenal are interested, and if they want him, Arda’s first choice is Arsenal.”
http://www.sport.co.uk/news/Football/31089/Arsenal_target_in_come_and_get_me_plea.aspx
I think, the next Freddie Ljungberg will be Arda Turan.
Havent you heard Maciek…we has no monies.
39m spent since last summer might account for the lack of big cash to spend.
Turan is another small player. If we get him then we are gonna have to get rid of someone else similar size and get in a bigger midfielder.
As for a striker- Antonio Di Natale, anyone?
Too old and another smallie Maciek.
Stu, he is 100 times the player Walcott will ever be. Theo is overrated.Sorry, I like him, but he is crap and very prone to injuries.
Well guys, what have we taken from this weekend, well we have seen how to beat west ham courtesy of man united and also man city have shown us how to beat chelsea, cesc could not have given any more clue to sorensen of what way he was intending to go,what a poor pen that was.Yet again rosicky is injured he’s finished i.m.o same as eddy.the only decent point of the weekend was the s.d.i.y throwing away a 2 goal lead and missing a pen in the last minute….
B.B.K and we also learnt that we have a new striker in our midst lollllll
How about we go for one of Helmes or Kiessling from Bayern Leverkusen. Both are 25, german and have good scoring records.
Keissling is 6’3 so would defo add height. Helmes has the better scoring record but is only 5’11. Thoughts?
who’s that then g.s
Stu ze germans i know nothing about
’tis a shame Fran…
I find it quite amusing that the boy wonder who scored a hat-trick for England against Croatia is now being dimissed as ‘crap’ by a lot of Arsenal fans.
Form is temporary, class is permanent.
He will come good, he just needs some time. If i was Wenger I would stick him in the reserves for 2 games to get him sharp again. Too much pressure to come straight back in and have the crowd expecting the old Theo.
There is no point in going for another 5’11 striker Kiessling might be an option but I’ve never heard of him
who’s the old theo then
B.B.K Arshavin
Chipo, i brilliant game for england means shit in terms of arsenal. He doesnt do it even nearly often enough for us to be considered class.
I dont think he is shit but i dont think he is brilliant either. Time will tell….he has had a lot of time so far and has been injured for a lot of it.
Gunnersmith it’s ability with back to goal and strength that’s important more than height
Just realised Helmes in injured so he’s a no-go. Kiessling this season has 12 goals in 15 starts in the Bundesliga so he is doing well.
B.B.K. Says:

—————————————————
B.B.K Arshavin
Chipo, was the hat-trick against Croatia form or class?
*my post 16:05 should have started with “1 brilliant game”
All the speculation is great, but this is Wenger afterall. Best odds are to put these parameters around who might come in:
Under age of 27.
Under 15mil (probably under 10, but I’m being generous)
Not cup-tied.
Someone 80% of people have never heard of.
I know A, but we’re lacking height in our team we have a lot of midgets already why go for another one (another injury prone one)
theo’s been injured cos he’s still a kid playing in a mans game
http://www.sport.co.uk/news/Football/31091/Huntelaar_tipped_to_quit_Milan_in_January.aspx
what this then?
nah g.s it’s only a temporary fix, don’t get to comfortable with him playing there.
Humtelaar should just go back to Holland on loan to get his confidence and goalscoring touch back.
yeah gunnersmith, but 5’11 isn’t a midget! I wouldn’t say much smaller than that though.
maqit that’s huntelaar heading back to play at his level after failing in the two big leagues he’s played in
you sure it’s loan stu? i’d imagine it’ll be a permanent move, if anyone is willing to stump up the case
No A. I was suggesting he should go on loan.
“was the hat-trick against Croatia form or class?”
What a stupid, ‘trying to be clever’ question
Do you think if you, Ray in SF, played in an England game, you would score a hat-trick if you were in the best form of your life?
No, cos you have no class.
Or Senderos in part ex for Aguero? Give them Eboue and Vela/Eduardo too.
Any more straws out there I can grasp in vein?
(And probably cos you’re a yank as well, so wouldn’t be able to play for us anyway
)
Gay in SF. A novel Nick.
Chipo i don’t think it was a “stupid, ‘trying to be clever’ question” it was just a question
I agree GS.
When Geoff bangs on about Walcotts Croatia hat trick, I always roll my eyes a bit cos for me it was very much a one off.
Theo’s never thretaened to score a hat trick before then or since then.
Some days every thing just goes for you…
Theo undoubtedly has moments of sheer class….just not enough of them to ‘bring the jury back in’ – so to speak
Scoring an hatrick against a croatian side does not neccesatily means you’re class i reckon Baptista scoring four against liverpool in the FA cup you could be in the form of your life and score an hatrick and yet be classless sorry about the English, but you get the gist

Chipo, i brilliant game for england means shit in terms of arsenal. He doesnt do it even nearly often enough for us to be considered class
========================
Are we talking about Walcott?
Because Walcott hasnt played enough games to be considered “crap” or “class”
What is sure is that given a run of games he improves and is arguably more influential than most of the youths…say for instance someone who fancies wearing pink.
From F***365.com. Looks like great SteveG dived again.
And From That Autobiography…
“If I saw a team-mate doing it (diving), I would definitely have a word.”
Presumably it’s going to be a confusing morning in the Gerrard household as Stevie has a word with himself.
Chipo, I like Walcott, and not in a San Francisco way, and want him to be successful…but he doesn’t inspire confidence this season, poor decisions (passing instead of shooting or vice versa), and loosing the ball way too easily.
And, Yes, he probably has ten to one hundred times more talent than me, but is that enough for Arsenal?
And for the homophobes on the Blog I saw a T-shirt that might amuse…
It’s hard to think ‘Straight’ when you’re in San Francisco.
And From That Autobiography…
“If I saw a team-mate doing it (diving), I would definitely have a word.”
Presumably it’s going to be a confusing morning in the Gerrard household as Stevie has a word with himself.
That’s funny sharkey because that what I do when you bang on about Song, but he really is shit and can only dream of scoring a hatrick. Let alone doing it for his country.
Theo has bundles of talent, he’s already proved it, Song hasn’t.
Also how easy we forget how influential Walcott was before he was crocked in that loss to Stoke. Last Season.
His first game back and he caused the own Goal/Arshavin Goal in the first 4minutes?
Wenger not using him right.
Walcott needs space. Simple As. Never going to be effective when a team decides to “park the bus”
Ray how could he not inspire confidence this season – he’s barely played, and nowhere near full fitness! There was a marked improvement in him last season, and I expect the same this season. He’s far from the finished article, but offers us alot and when he’s back to full fitness I expect him to score a lot of goals in this system
I’m happy for ya Geoff.
Unlike you I don’t have sleepless nights over Theo’s progress or lack of progress, or call him out for imaginary shit games.
I simply ain’t happy with his progress so far, and think that he needs to do more. You’ll note I implied that the jury is still out, not that I called him shit.
One day you’re gonna realise that ‘goals scored’ is no yardstick for judging a DM.
*Sharkey kicks himself for waking Geoff up*
Carlton Cole will be my best pick. He has physical presence, pace and can hussle defenders. He can score goals and will develop further when he comes. However, AW won’t buy him because he’s English. These days, he prefers buying average French/Foreign players than buying English quality. So we have Denilson, Eboue, Almunia and Fabianski all average but playing week-in-week out.
Unless the French mafia is broken, we’re not going to see any progress soon. AW will continue to renew the contracts of injury-prone and average foreign players at the expense of the Arsenal club.
Geoff how can you compare Song scoring a hat-trick to Theo?
When did Vieira ever get a hat-trick?
This English quality he seems to have passed on will you care to elaborate? Last i checked we have the most promising English talent there is, besides the Welsh kid… And don’t mention A. Young…
“english quality” maturks?! There’s a contradiction in terms!
Eboue is better than any English right back, Fabianski would be England’s number one, and Denilson I’d have over any English DM apart from the crocked Hargreaves!
You’ve got things the wrong way round, foreign quality costs the same amount as English averageness, and doesn’t usually come with the same attitude problems.
Sharkey, interesting you think I have sleepless nights, you are very odd.
Chipo, it was that sharkey thinks Song is something special, I said scoring a hatrick for England is something special, especially when it’s against the team that formerly knocked your country out.
I then said Song could only dream of doing that.
You need to work on your reading.
He also said this…
‘When Geoff bangs on about Walcotts Croatia hat trick, I always roll my eyes a bit’
I was sitting working and enjoying myself until I read that comment, I responded and he doesn’t like it.
Id take Barry over Denilson.
My guess is if Denilson was English. Capello would take Barry of him too.
Id take Barry over song.
well if we’re extending tolerance to Walcott, I think Eduardo is going to come good.
The ‘form versus class’ debate is already settled for the latter
I agree Ray, totally.
Gunnergetyou I’d take a case of Lucozade over Song.
I wouldn’t David, don’t rate him at all, massively overrated imo
Geoff – u do have sleepless nts about Soncgs youtube videos
Lucozade and Songs videos b4 bedtime? Sleepless nts AND a semi !!
Against Olpmi.. I would start
___________Fabi
Eboue___Senderos__Bartley__Sly
_____Eastmond_Denilson
__Walcott_Wilshere_Merida
__________Vela
You got that right sharkey, now that would give me sleepless nights.
Dont doubt that he’s over-rated A,
But I cant see how anyone would take Denilson over a proven International when Denilson hasnt even kicked a ball for Brazil Yet. I seriously doubt he will.
A
I’ll take Ashley Young over Nasri because he’s direct and his play is not centred only on cut-ins. I’ll also take Defoe over Eduardo. Barry will play any day instead of the glorified Brazilian.
Our team is so average now and we can’t win anything with these foreigners who have no heart other than improving their abilities and leaving. Aw hasn’t tasted the coffee yet and will be too late by the time he realises that the so-called great Swiss-Tonys, Djourous, Diabys, Sylvestres, Denilsons, Almunias are just clowns.
I really hope our kids dont get another spanking, but this time wenger would be right to play them i guess.
For the Record i thought Barry was absolute Shyte against Chelsea.
But Denilson is the epitomizes of crab football.
***is the epitome**
Is there any doubt that Project Youth is a failure. There was no doubt whatsoever against Shitty in the Carling Cup.
Wenger by his own admission said they were too strong for the kids.
But Summer 08 pre-Arshavin Wenger told us the same bollocks that the kids were good enough to win the EPL.
Very worried about a so-called quote from Wenger in a paper i read today. About the January transfer window he said something like ‘It will be very difficult to find a star player in the January transfer window that is not cup tied and is available for free’
What the heck! So these days Arsenal will not buy any players or what? I really hope that was a miss quote, otherwise i am now sure that Wenger has lost the plot.
Regarding players i would like us to buy i feel that a keeper is the priority, and for me one of the best out there is Julio Cesar in Inter. Deffinatelt the best keeper in Italy at the moment and has been for awhile. I would guess that he is not for sale but why not put in a cheeky bid of 15 mil plus Mannone?
huh maturk – all young’s game is is cutting back onto his right foot, or do you mean the only other element of his game, constant diving?! Young will never get close to Nasri as a footballer. I wouldn’t take Defoe over Eduardo, he doesn’t have the all round game, and talking about average, Barry is Mr average, there’s nothing he’s actually exceptional at, just decent at everything! The only reason he’s anywhere near international football, or even a top half Premiership side is because he’s left footed so gives teams balance, as an individual player he’ll never be anything more than average.
Bobby he said free, not available for free. Free as in available, not without a fee….
He also meant free as in cheap. Wenger wants to find a world class player, not cup tied and for under 10m.
A, do you think that Denilson is better than Barry??
“Barry will play any day instead of the glorified Brazilian.”
Glorified Brazilian?
And no…
I think almost any player is ‘free’, as in possible to buy. As long as you are willing to pay for it, which of course Wenger is not.
David, the Carling Cup result is not indication that project youth had failed. Our kids cant be judged against their 1st team.
Stu I’ve never heard free to mean cheap, but undoubtedly we won’t pay over the odds for anyone….
ggy yeah I do, I don’t rate Barry at all. If he was right footed then he’d struggle to be a premiership player.
Bobby noone with any sense would be willing to pay more than a player is worth
‘Project Youth’ will fail when we stop bringing youngsters into the first team. Chelsea can be classified as a failed project youth. What that does to your long-term future will be evident in a few years.
GGY
Why not? If Wenger says that the kids are good enough to win Silverware then by all indications that is a failure.
ANR website such a miserable place to visit.
I really don’t know why I go there for a read. It’s just a knocking shop.
rocky…that’s a better team than I expected without using the guys we need for Liverpool
David, he thinks the older kids can win silverware, that team he put out against shitty didn’t stand a chance, although they battled well for 60 mins.
David project youth is judged upon whether cesc, clichy, song, denilson, vp, theo, bendtner, vela can bring us proper silverware.
The league cup is a developmental stage in the kids’ careers, not what it’s created for.
So ray are u gay or do u
just like the sunshine in the bay
P.S. Im a homophobe
Umm… It doesn’t mean the youth team can win the PL, even Wenger’s not that conceited…
Well A we havent won anything in 5 years and counting, havent realy come close either apart from the CL final but the average age of that team was over 13yrs.
A
Our players are better than all the other team’s players. Denilson is the best midfielder, so do Almunia, Eduardo, Eboue, Sylvestre, Se4nderos, Djourou, Diaby and all the rest in their positions yet we’re getting beat every season.
Is the league table incorrect? It will be too late to smell the coffee.
The foreign players farm at the London Colney has to be dismantled very soon. So should be the French mafia on the loose.
By those indications then Project Youth is more of a failure then.
Arshavin was indeed the savior of our 08/09 campaign. As he was again against stoke.
Good evening Grovers!
Top post Geoff, informative and interesting.
People keep saying Thierry is over… I’m not so sure I’d agree with that… old players adapt their game, I’m sure Thierry is capable of that, if not, he can always get away with using his hands!
who loved cardozo? he have scored hattrick
Hey Maturks watchit with the Sarcasm alright.
The only ones telling the truth are AW and his trusted sideb@tch A.
:0
maturks,
what are you talking about? foreign mafia? have you seen our ressies/youth teams lately?
Why did we buy Arshavin then? Why not another Walcott or Nasri?
Foreign players farm? SO we arent winning anything because we have too many foreigners…what a load of bull.
Just because we dont have many english players doesnt mean its the reason we arent successful. The invincibles had 2 english players in it.
Its all to do with the individual…not where they are from.
My scouse friend said Lucas was supposed to be like Denilson. I told him…..He is just like Lucas.
Denilson That is
A, Arsene defines what is over the odds… which is usually the market value.
Ribery would have cost £25mill… a season later he’s worth £60mill…
He wont pay market rate for developed players, but he’ll blast everyone out the water when it comes to kids who have a much lower chance of succeeding.
Arsh was bought to win us games… Him being good does not nullify all the young players. Also this was his first MOTM performance of the season.
Maturks, read the paper much do you?
I struggle to think of any player that wasnt bought to win us games. Bendtner?
Mayank, sometimes I get the impression the love for Arshavin irks you?
He’s played 14, scored 6 and got 3 assists… and he’s playing badly…
David we bought Arshavin because we needed to replace Rosicky, so experience and ready made with experience and ready made.
Pedro the market value isn’t the same as a player’s worth. Just because that’s the going rate doesn’t mean a player is going to bring that level of value to the team. The market has become massively inflated by clubs who aren’t interested in acting within their means, so money means nothing to them.
We didn’t lose out on Ribery because we weren’t willing to stump up the cash though – he just chose Bayern….
Can’t understand why he went for Denilson’ when there were better Brazilian midfielders (I like the Brazilian midfielder, Silva now playing for Milan and keeping Flamini out)
The current foreign players are just not good. Almunia is not even considered as a bench warmer in the Spanish team and yet AW is still hanging on to him. A club that used to have great GKs like Jennings, Seaman and Lehmann who all won us titles and cups.
A? I believe in your eyes Almunia is also the best that ever happened to the Arsenal.
Umm no Pedro, I’ve liked him from day one(which was pretty late, in the Euro’s), BTW I didn’t do a post on him being a false dawn which you did.
What does irk me is that people treat him like he’s a player apart from Wenger and the club’s philosophies and thereby him being successful equals Wenger and the club’s philosophy are wrong. Whereas i see him as a part of a team which was founded on these two things.
Also i hate the fact that people use Arsh as an example to take jabs at our own players!
good stats for Arsh, not quite cesc but still impressive.
As for the stats you just quoted all I was saying is that this was Arsh’s first complete performance where he gave it his all and got results as well. You being a match reporter can surely appreciate that.
When did I say he’s playing badly?
Maturk,
Almunia not good enough to warm the spanish bench so he must be shit. Valdez isnt considered good enough to get a call up either. (damn! now it looks like im defending Al when im just pointing out the flaw).
Also Milans only Silva is Thiago Silva who plays CB..not in midfield.
No maturks Almunia is very average…. Fabianski is far better, and I want him between the sticks asap.
Who is the brazilian midfielder at milan?! pirlo, seedorf, ambrosini and gattuso are the men who keep flamini out of the team, though flamini is average anyways so that isn’t a big deal.
When we went for Denilson he was very highly rated in Brazil, and the Brazilian u20 captain
What?
ARshavin replaced RosickY?
Are you serious?
I had as many goals/assists/games as Rosicky did in the 08/09 season!
You cant replace something that was never there.
Yes David, as Wenger even said himself, Rosicky was expected to be back in September, then November, then had yet another set back, so Wenger decided he couldn’t rely on him and needed to replace him with another player like him, similar position, creative, role, experienced, and ready made, and Arshavin ticked all the boxes.
A, Arshavin replaced Hleb not Rosicky
He replaced him because he wasn’t there David, the same way we’ll need to replace Arsh after he leaves/retires.
Nasri replaced Hleb. Arshavin was just bought…not as a replacement but because he was needed.
No Smith, Wenger himself said Arshavin replaced Rosicky! Nasri replaced Hleb
Mayank – “Chelsea can be classified as a failed project youth. What that does to your long-term future will be evident in a few years”
Its comments like that keep me coming back here, cos you and a few others offset the ranting WAC brigade !!
Stu – well said re the ‘players passports’
Mr B – you’re on and off your moral high horse every ten mins !!! I wish you’d just make your mind up about whether PC has any value or is just a pile of shit.
Stu Wenger said the reason he bought Arshavin was to replace Rosicky
If that is the case then why didnt we buy him in the summer? Surely we would have had a much better season had we bought him if Rosicky was to be replaced?
Mayank
Im not sure that Rosicky has left or retired yet. I mean he Arshavin “replaced” Rosicky, surely that means he’s no longer at Arsenal?
Rosicky hadnt kicked a ball for Arsenal in months so and the way he’s been treated hes being eased slowly back into the team (understandably)
Assuming there were no “setbacks” Wenger wouldve eased him back into the same.
And his impact on the team would be as minimal as it is now.
Cheers Shark!
Wenger may have said it but i just dont agree. You cant replace someone that didnt leave. Rosicky may be unreliable now but if both are fit both will start and in different positions. Therefore i dont consider Arshavin a Rosicky replacement.
Perdo – “He’s played 14, scored 6 and got 3 assists… and he’s playing badly…”
Do you think he’s been playing well…??
For me he’s done Ok, but to my eye he has been playing well within himself for whatever reason.
Hopefully Sat is/was his launchpad..
Glad you liked it Sharkey..
If Arshavin replaced Rosicky then WTF is Rosicky doing at arsenal
Okay, again.
Wenger thought Rosicky would be available shortly, as did we.
Rosicky did not concur.
Wenger bought Arsh to replace his goals and assists.
Rosicky hasn’t left us yet but is not considered someone we build our season around. Hence the phrase “like a new signing” every time he comes back…
arshavin was an emergency signing when it looked like we would finish outside the top four
David we didn’t buy him in the summer because the coaching staff were confident that he’d be back in September, but after loads of set backs, it was decided we couldn’t rely on him at all, so we needed someone to play that role, who had experience, and alot of quality.
Stu I agree, both will start if fit, but Arshavin would never have been bought if Rosicky had been fit and playing.
And again Rosicky was never going to start and play consistently after coming back from injury in the summer.
I struggle to remember what games he featured in during preseason?
And again. How do you replace something that was never really there?
A, what defines worth?
Market value…
It’s not dipping is it?
There hasn’t been a crash has there?
So therefore… a players value is defined by the market.
Wenger only buys a player if they’re way below market value. Let’s be honest, we got a bargain with Arshavin… the same for Vermaelen.
We would have got a bargain if we’d purchased Alonso for £15million as well… or Sammy Eto’o for £20million…
Exactly Mayank.
We didn’t buy Arshavin in the summer because we expected Rosicky to return early on in the season.
Rosicky had set backs therefore we needed someone in his position, with his experience, who could provide what he would if he was fit.
Therefore we signed Arshavin.
Rosicky playd in the emirates cup and one of the first pre season games…not sure which one.
Denilson is the new donkey, very slow to play for a counterattacking team like Arsenal. His back and sideways passes don’t help our counterattacking play. He looks good playing against lower table teams but bottles it against bigger teams. He’s often bullied and pushed off the ball, has no height and is substandard technically. He’s never played for Brazil while Anderson and Lucas have done so several times.
I don’t see anything special about him to come in under special talent visa
Rosicky played in the 08/09 pre-season? dont remember that at all.
Can expect a player who was out for that long to waltz into the team and become a consistent starter. Especially one with a history of injury problems.
I believe Wenger threw away our 08/09 season.
Denilson is good player.
He’s much better than anderson and lucas.
His job is not to make needle sharp passes and make assists. Just try to dispossess and pass it on.
Dearie Me.. denilson has great technicality.
He maybe physically developing but you can’t doubt his technical ability.
Not the 08-09 one David. Obviously he was still injured then..
I wouldn’t say Arsh and Verm were bargains, it’s more like they didn’t have the media hype surrounding them so we got them for their real value. Both would go for much more now though.
Choy Denilson?
Technical ability? Really? I think he’s rather disgraceful for a Brazilian.
At the time we bought him Vermaelen was anything but a bargain. 10m for someone on awful form and never tested in a good league. He was a massive gamble that has seemingly paid off.
Pedro I define worth as the value the player would bring to the team, not market value.
Market prices have gone up, but not the worth a goal, or assist, or just a good performance by any one player brings to the club.
Market value has gone up because clubs have more money than sense, therefore are willing to spend WAY more money than a player is worth, because they aren’t interested in balancing their books.
I’d say both Vermy and Arshavin were good prices, but not bargains. Only compared to silly money other teams are willing to spend, when money isn’t an issue.
i feel people are unfaily comparing delinson to seasoned top class player he is ok player but he is only 21 realy should not be starting same for diaby andevon ramsey its samething comparing ramsey to gerard which be totaly unfair these young players need time but because they in the position which are starters and regulers in the team they dont have thar luxury
Choy
I’ve not seen him get out of tight corners like Nasri, Ramsey or Song do very often. In the house of blind men, the one-eyed person is the greatest. That’s how I see him. Arsenal has fallen so sharply that most of our players now can’t get onto the bench of Chelsea or Manu but look great playing Arsenal. A team with Almunia as No.1?
He doesn’t do tap ins :

David 08/09 was the season just gone, when we signed Arshavin half way through because Rosicky hadn’t recovered from injury, this really shouldn’t be hard to understand!
