Wenger, accept your failings and change… or move on.

Comfort food time…

It felt bad last night, this morning, it feels even worse.

I watched the game on my own in a pub in Leicester last night. The first thing I saw when I walked in was Adebayor hugging some of the kids. A very transparent attempt at restoring the Ade-brand that I think was only ever about as reputable as that of an Asbestos salesman.

My pre match thoughts were:

  • I was deeply concerned that our coach is arrogant enough to decide what he will and will not take seriously as a competition. I’d understand if he’d been delivering us consistent silverware over the past 3 seasons, but let’s be honest, our trophy cabinet is emptier than Dubai building site. Beggars can’t be choosers and lets not kid ourselves, we’re beggars.
  • I was not expecting the kids to beat a very strong team full of proven professionals. The power and experience on offer from Man City was always going to be too much for our boys.

Arsenal knocked it around sweetly for the first few minutes. That play was interrupted when Ade secured first foul of the game after ploughing into Traore. Rocky was looking younger than his 29 years, spraying the ball round like a finely honed sprinkler system.

It didn’t take long for Ade to get the first free header of the night after poor marking from Song. The Togan was being heckled by the away support as expected.

Shortly after the header, Song mistimed a slide tackle that allowed Tevez in. There was a lack of organisation at the back and most of it was down to Song and Eboue.

The kids were resorting to long ball football early on which was interesting. Long ball football is usually the by-product of panic football, or a lack of creativity.

Rambo had the first dig for Arsenal, straight into the legs of Bridge. Shortly after Traore fizzed a cross in that was headed back for the corner. It was nice to know that some of the full backs at our club can cross.

The defence was looking very sloppy, Bellamy hit the post after Traore was easily dispossessed on our byline. Very weak defending. The crazy thing was Silvestre looked our most assured defender.

Eastmond demonstrated why he’s not first choice as Tevez held him off like an older brother holding the head of his younger sibling as the he swings wildly to no avail. This is why young footballers take so long to break into the first team, because of the power difference. I really don’t understand why they don’t go to the gym to bulk up?

Eboue went close after Jack slid him in, he cut it back to avoid the incoming Lescott tackle but meekly shot into Given’s arms.

Song took the ball off the head off Lescott from a good City set piece. The next corner flew in and ans something happened…our keeper came for it despite it being a tough ball! Madness… Keepers can claim the ball outside their six yard box!

Kolo handled a Vela cross. Vela was never going to get the penalty… It’d be like God rolling into Richard Dawkin’s local, and expecting a free packet of crisps with his pint.

Song continued to drop clangers as the half went on. The technique of breaking a few dishes whilst washing up sprang to mind! Surely he’s not going to be happy about being dropped back to 3rd choice defender?

Just before the second half kicked off, the camera cut to Ade patting Eboue on the back, Eboue defiantly shook his head, eyes transfixed on the floor. Fair play Eboue, fair play.

Tevez opened the scoring after Rosicky lost the ball out wide, the Argentine bombed into the box, breezed past Eboue who didn’t get in tight enough, waltzed past the Song who weakly dived in and buried the ball in the top corner. Too easy, far too easy. Our defence was ridiculously deep at times last night.

I knew things were going to go wrong when 4 alchoholics came and joined me in the bar I was in. I’m like a retard magnet when I’m having a bad day…

Arsenal continued to plug away. Vela did well to play Rambo in, shame about the lack of composure from the Welshman as he blasted over.

City broke unexpectedly, Song stood rooted, Fabianski did well to put Ade off. My Sunday League team would have reacted quicker. Die for the cause mentality loses its meaning when the coach fucks the competition off as a development exam.

Merida floated a half volley cross, Rambo was unlucky to head wide.

City’s second goal came when SWP flw down the wing, cut inside and unleashed an amazing outside of the boot spectacular into the top corner. A fabulous goal, but to be expected when you’re playing at the highest level and you give top players too much time on the ball.

The final nail in the coffin came when some Eastern European player turned in a cross. By this point, I was so disinterested, I couldn’t be bothered to write his name down.

A disappointing game from a selection point of view, but not unexpected. Did Wenger really think his kids would head into that game with any sort of belief? They were sacrificed in some sort of defiant showing by a coach who is so single minded, it’s embarrassing. If getting spanked by better players is good for your development, then last night was a resounding success. All last night proved to me is that Arsenal don’t have a winning mentality and our kids aren’t that amazing.

If you don’t want to read a rant, look away now.

Arsene-al football club appear to have lost their way over the past few years. They seem to have forgotten who has allowed them to develop the club into a hugely profitable organisation… the fans. We’re the ones who put a high percentage of our cash into the club, more than any other fans, yet we’re only afforded two competitions as a priority.

Football is there for the fans, like it not, we’re the mugs who power the merry-go-round. Arsenal is not there to grease the pockets of young men, their agents and the hierarchy. If the development of a player is in conflict with the winning of a trophy… screw the player. Do you think I care, as one of the 90 percent of the population on sub 50k a year whether or not a player makes it after 3 years?

Do I fuck.

If I don’t deliver after 6 months in my role, I’m out on my ass. Do I get 3 years to develop? Not a chance. Theo does though, he doesn’t deliver and he gets a new 60k a week deal for 5 years based on what he might do.

The whole youth set up is a farce… the model is grossly flawed and I’m sick of it. It’s not even about the money… If someone earns 60k a week and they deliver me success, I’m happy. We’re dishing out 100million a year to serial under achievers. Put that number in perspective, that’d employ you 4348 people on an average 23k a year salary. Or 8872 people on minimum wage. That’s a hell of a lot of money funding something which from a sporting perspective is not working.

It’s time we took back our club, demanded value for money and got over our obsession for a coach who has clearly become complacent in the extreme.

Arsene, time to accept that your old policy of spending money was a good one. Time to accept that every player from the invincibles was a purchase bar Cole and Parlour. Time to think about something other than the clubs profit margins, and your hideously inadequate ideology. Time to grow up when you get out played and stop acting like a petulant child. It’s not Mark Hughes fault he took the game seriously.

Arsene, for an intelligent man, you’re incredibly reactionary. Why don’t we ever make a proactive signing? Why don’t we ever replace players like for like? Why have we now given up on replacing players full stop?

I’ll make a prediction. When Gallas or Vermaelen get injured, we’re going to be in alsorts of trouble because the cover isn’t adequate, just like it hasn’t been for the last 4 seasons. Why doesn’t out coach address that? We’ll all be sitting here in July blaming injuries to one of those two for our demise in February when in actual fact, we should be blaming our manager for not making the correct decisions with his squad. He has the money, there is no excuse for oversights that are so glaringly obvious, 90% of the fanbase can see them.

Grovers, I don’t like writing stuff like this, but seeing us piss away another trophy that the coach had not right to dismiss hurts. The fans who travelled up there should be refunded for that display and the coach should apologise.

The only people who seem to be getting any value out of the club are the staff. Bloated long-term contracts for accepted mediocrity that the fans are supposed to be thankful for! Lovely…

All I ask is that we compete. We’ve not managed to sustain a Premiership challenge past March for years. Not good enough. As Mourinho once said, how many managers could deliver so little success and still be safe in their job?

A total lack of respect for the fans seems to be running through the club at the moment and I’m not happy.

This is our club and I want it back.

    That the spirit Tommo !!

You might wanna make it clear that she’s a woman though yeah…. ;-)

    On that note….

    Night all….

  2. Pynooo...

    DAMN…
I can’t believe the board’s just sitting there and watching the club flow down the drain. Someone should slap Arsene and bring him back to reality. I can’t stand this any more, for goodness sake he’s gotta buy more powerful world class players. Wenger’s too loyal to his mediocre group of players, HE HAS FORGOTTEN THAT HIS NO.1 LOYALITIES SHOULD LIES WITH THE FANS FIRST OF ALL. This is not his team, this team is ours, should we all die of high blood pressure and heart attacks first before something is done???

Almunia is pigs crap, and doesn’t deserve to be 2nd choice in this team. We need, so badly I might add, a world class goalie in the likes of Lloris, Akinfeev and Neuer. That defence is near solid, but for that “curtain” of a keeper called Almunia.

I’ll stick my head out for this present defence, but only after Arsene buy a quality backup for WG and TVerm. We need one of ‘em strong CBs from the italian league.

The Midfield’s almost perfect. All we need is one solid DM – Yaya or someone who can bully midfielders into submission. Wenger keeps on going on about how his boys lack the experience to compete at certain levels, but how does he expect them to gain experience and learn without the adequate experience in the team to learn from???

The attack’s shit without RVP… Ed not just the same anymore, he needs to come from the bench more often to get his form back; Walcott still is not learning and is just set in his ways. I personally haven’t seen any improvement from Walcott, he’s just to injury-prone(yes he’s injured again). He should, like Ed start from the bench until he has learnt how to be effective for the team. We need DZEKO period. He is big strong, and ready to throw his weight around. Before you say he’s a slow player watch the ManU CL match again. Arsene needs to get him before ManU get him.

Four players and we can become the “GUNS” of old.

    Ole Gunners… Ole

  3. SUGA3

    A,

height & power upfront makes a massive difference – putting a player who is below 6 foot upfront on his own and pumping wishful crosses in his general direction is just plain fucking stupid…

if this is AW’s ‘tactic’ then it’s quite poor for a ‘genius’, if the players cannot execute other tactical moves given by the manager, then we should replace them…

  4. RockyPires

I would go for Fabianski in nets to counter their crosses not Manuel Stare at crosses with mouth openia, Silvestre at lb to counter their looking to get big man on the backpost, Traore needs a little time out, recap on his positives and negatives.
If we keep 3 at the back with Gallas,Verm and Sly it should make us more solid than with Traore and Sagna both being caught upfield.

Song will be missed I know your no lover of his Geoff but he will be missed at lacksadaisy Denilson just ponses around the park whereas Song gets stuck in.
Midfield will probably comprise of Cesc,Deni and Ramsey with Nasri,EDS and AA up top. I see a goal in it for EDS and hopefully will kickstart him but would prefer playing Vela as ye previously said he is more lively and likely to slip in.

  5. Geoff

Oracle why would you think I would put your comment on when is was a fucking dimwitted one, do you think I’m as thick as you?

Well I’m not and it’s not, I hope that helps solve the problem.

  6. reggie57

Why is everyone talking about formations 4-4-2,4-3-3,4-5-1 who gives a fuck? you can play any formation you want but you still wont win anything if the players are not good enough, and sorry to say the present ones are not…….

  7. Chris M

Wenger does wat he wants cause David Dein is not in his ass telling him wat he should do to make the club better. CMON ARSENAL!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Chris M

Wenger does wat he wants cause David Dein is not in his ass telling him wat to do to make the team better. Dein always had a big part in our success always whispering in Wengers ear telling him “this is the right move” wen Dein left and said that “there” way was not gonna bring us trophys thats wen we fell apart.

  9. SUGA3

my thoughts exactly Chris – apart from that Dein was the muscle in the transfer market: name a ‘big’ signing AW made w/o Dein…

  10. Micky Did It 89

If AW wasnt going to shake Hughes’ hand, then he should have been a man and Paul Davis’d the wanker. Time someone took the lead and showed some fucking fight.
I said on here about a week ago that if either Ros or Theo got injured again then they should go.
    One down….
Only been away for two days and already been offered three tickets for Stoke game.
Also, as I said on here, watch out for those empty seats!

  11. SUGA3

    Micky,

that was not too hard to predict, was it?

if you charge top dollar for substandard product, people can be taken for mugs only for so long…

  12. goonergerry

Do you really think we lost this game because we played the kids? Our first team lost 4-2 earlier this season against the same mob minus Tevez. Thats 7 goals in 2 games. The kids are no better or worse than the team hammered by Chelsea. Neither of them can defend to save their lives or knock the top off a rice pudding up front. Don’t pick on Walcott when the defence has let in 6 in 2 games. It is the set up which has been exposed-and I have no sympathy when we sold City 2 of our best players at the beginning of this year-players we needed more than them!

  13. Colonel Mustard

hmmm…tomstoned….our manager is not learning from repeated mistakes…year after year.. last time i checked Arsenal are not a Facist club…our rulers are not omnipotent or immune to criticism…to be fair to the blog they pointed out the weaknesses as most educated arsenal fans can plainly see…remember Wegners words that it will fall on him if his policy fails, well tombstone you name is apt…

  14. Pedro

Tom, I don’t think there is rule book to being a fan.

    I write what I feel…

Out of the cup, 3 losses in 4… feels familiar.

  15. Pedro

GoonerGerry, I think after capitulating to Chelsea, the first team should have been played.

We’re out of the league… and any trophy is better than no trophy.

I don’t think I can stomach watching the Manc lift a trophy again…

  16. reggie57

You must realise Tom feelings are running high mate(even higher than you and thats saying something) the most ardent AW fan has had enough of the false dawns, year after year we have to put up with AW saying this team will deliver alas it has not.
Pedro as a fanatical fan is only stating what a lot of us are thinking….
    Dont shoot the messenger….

  17. Geoff

Tom, fuck me that drivel you just posted makes me ashamed that you think you’re an Arsenal fan.

Clearly you have never been to a game, you are acting like a Arsene Wenger groupie, we were here long before he was. And you know what? We’ll be here long after he’s gone, unlike him and unlike you.

If you don’t like Pedro’s post, don’t read it and go elsewhere. Please don’t bother to insult Le Grove with shithead comments like that again, you are beginning to make me feel sick. In a stalker sick way.

  18. Geoff

Hey Tom you can fuck off, I am so incensed that you have the nuts to attack fellow Grovers you can go and blog somewhere else.

    You are banned.

  19. Geoff

Tom just fuck off, how dare you talk to us like that, are you that important that you think behaving like a prick will get you attention, go and blog somewhere where your creeping arse kissing will get you some respect, it won’t here.

  20. SUGA3

    Reggie,

yep, quite pissed off, I just don’t get what benefit there was for the youngsters from getting obliterated in the second half? no plan B, no impact subs? You Watt? I love the Snoopy fella, but that’s just pisstake…

    Vjs,

Arshavin – yep, that is one, I knew I should have added ‘bar Arshavin’, even this one was the most ridiculous transfer saga, almost (?) embarassing ;)

like I said, Dein is the muscle…

‘In every game, you gotta have the brain and the muscle, the game and the hustle…’

  21. Ray in SF

Thanks for the RANT. It helped to ease the anger and frustration I’m feeling — at least a little — just to read it.

There must be something going on behind the scenes that would make some sense of what’s going on. Wenger is a very long way from stupid, yet it is not always obvious from some of his decisions.

  22. SUGA3

IMO Dein was the only person that any sort of consistent influence on AW – no offence to Ivan, but Dein would have him for breakfast…

  23. SUGA3

    Jaguar, RU OK fella?

    Or:

    Are you

    a) an imposter
    b) taking a piss
    c) enlightened to understand the errors of your ways?

  24. Lou

Disappointment drips from the posts of nearly all Arsenal blogs today and it’s easy to see why. But lunatics like that horrible git Myles Palmer and even morbidly obese Jeff Winter just couldn’t contain their glee at Arsene’s refusal to shake the hand of the terribly decent and morally upright Mark Hughes. Winter, Palmer and some other moron named Cretino Breakneck (or something similar) have been masturbating all over their keyboards today, teetering somewhere between orgasm and bile. Hanging is just too good for Wenger it seems. He has sullied the great name of British sportsmanship and, along with that other appalling cheat Thierry Henry, has plunged Anglo-French relations to a new low. I am fully expecting Palmer, with his track record of remarkable and perceptive insight, to recollect the battle of Agincourt as proof that those Frenchies don’t like it up ‘em. I say here and now that footballing God Myles Palmer should be our next manager as he has been telling us all for years that Wenger hasn’t got a clue and I believe him. Who can forget his accurate forecast that Thierry Henry would never make a striker or his insider info that Patrick Vieira would have been an Arsenal player this year if only Hill-Wood had got to the bank on time? And Jeff Winter? He was, you must recall, the only referee who never made a bad decision.

  25. Samir

Dein cared and still does care about Arsenal a lot more that Ivan does imo…
I’m sure he would have kicked Wenger up his arse by now. Ivan does not have the balls. He probably knows nothing about “soccer”…..

  26. reggie57

    SUGA

Agree i cant see what benefit the young players got from being mullered like that, only to experience what is like to be perenial losers perhaps?who knows what goes thru AWs head…….

  27. Geoff

Sure you do Jaguar, Suga, I’ve met Dein a few times, he was the real reason behind our success, he got Graham in, he was on the FA, he instructed Wenger in the transfer market and he warned Arsenal they needed to buy to compete.

He was also a top bloke who would always answer a question and have a debate, unlike Wenger, who must be obeyed.

He even brought Kroenke in and was stabbed in the back.

Now there is no one to stop him, challenge him or stop lunatic Wenger obsessed fans berating us for suggesting it.

I think Dein is the answer, but it won’t happen will it!

  28. Samir

Rather than giving Mark Hughes the finger, a Churchill salute or headbutting him Arsene Wenger chose not to shake hands at the end of the game with Manchester City. A wise course to take I’d have thought, given Wenger’s mood at the time and what had gone on before.

Quite clearly there was an incident for all to see in the game when Hughes intruded into Arsene’s technical area and called the Frenchman a ‘f***ing w***er’. Now if that was myself that Hughes had spoken to an instant knee in the groin would have possibly have been my first thought, maybe a Harringay kiss or whatever.

I certainly wouldn’t have just shrugged off the tosser, nor I imagine would many others. Le Boss chose to express himself in another manner. So here’s the question: If a known thug ponced up in a smart suit called you a ‘f***ing w***er’ would you shake hands with the **** at the end of a game?

No, me neither. Arsene was too polite to tell it like it was in the post-match press conference so I’ll say it for him. Mark Hughes has always been and will always be one of the lower life forms.

  29. Lou

Geoff. I think you’re right about DD. He was and is Arsenal through and through and I know someone who knows him passably well so that statement is accurate. He had fallen out with Fiszman for a while before his departure but the reason is extremely hush-hush. It’s a shame that the Wenger/Dein axis was broken. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

  30. SUGA3

    Samir,

Ivan knows a lot about football (OK, ‘soccer’, he was quite a figure in MLS), but he is nowhere near Dein’s stature in Europe or in England for that matter ;)

he’d sort AW out, if anyone…

    Reggie,

it is unbelievable that he will not let the most talented youngsters mix with the first teamers in later stages of CC – that is a ‘reward’ for doing well ALL THE TIME: now there are some youngsters who were completely out of their depth last night…

since the FA Cup semi, I had my suspicions, now it’s official – if he does not buy big in January, he’s fucking lost it…

  31. Geoff

Samir don’t get side tracked from the real issue, he put out a team to lose, he disrespected the Carling cup and the fans that pay good money to see their team, and he refused to buy players when we clearly needed them and had more than enough money.

Now another season is down the tubes before Christmas.

  32. Lou

People like Winter and Poll hid their general incompetence behind the shroud of imbecility. They now speak with the voice of experts, little knowing contempt they are held in. They actually believe their own hype.

  33. SUGA3

    Geoff,

agreed 100% – everything went tits up since DD left – didn’t Wenger not do the same (youth policy) at Monaco, where it failed miserably and they sacked him? seriously, there is the need to have someone to QUESTION Wenger to keep him fresh, instead of letting his brain become stale by blowing smoke up his arse…

  34. SUGA3

Wenger explains: ‘where do I play all these kids’?

how about not hoovering each and every talented kid on the globe to pay them all fuckloads of money and win shit?

  35. SUGA3

    Reggie,

I think he may go for Chamakh, but he will end up paying the asking price, as Bordeaux know he is desperate and will tell him to pay up or go fuck himself…

I would love to have Kenwyne Jones, but Bruce will skin AW alive, so this is a non starter…

    hattrick?

  36. Samir

What really pisses me off is that we, as fans cannot really do anything can we?
What does Pat Rice actually do, all I see him doing is sitting beside Wenger nodding his head like a cheap Churchill dog……
Could he make a good manager?

  37. BillikenGooner

    ” SUGA3 Says:
agreed 100% – everything went tits up since DD left – didn’t Wenger not do the same (youth policy) at Monaco, where it failed miserably and they sacked him? ”

Also, people tend to overlook that he inherited a defense of: Seaman, Adams, Keown, Bould, Dixon, etc for him to build that sexy offense in front of for all those Cups from the late ’90s early ’00s.

  38. SUGA3

    Samir,

I don’t feel there is any challenge coming from Rice there – it’s amazing that we are so shit defensively having a former right back as no.2, isn’t it?

  39. reggie57

    Suga

Perhaps AW could do a deal with best mate Bruce, Diaby, Traore and 10 mill for Jones and Cana good deal all round methinks…

  40. Geoff

Billiken they also forget that when we won the double in 1998 all but three of the players were from previous management.

  41. SUGA3

not going to happen though – Jones will not be sold for less than £15M, Cana is now worth at least 8…

we could do well with Chamakh, but B52 will be back fit in January and AW will think ‘there, no need to spend’ and will haggle for pennies…

  42. Samir

And he knows the passing game.
He was one that stood out for me for Holland in 2007. But then suddenly after Van Basten went he never played again?

  43. ritesh

we need to sell all the crap players we’ve got…they are not winners..

buy a new team of winners…we can pay 100M in wages to a team of underachievers..

Walcott gets 60K per week and he has played only 2 matches this year…we spoil them too much

  44. SUGA3

    ritesh,

I’d rather remember them as our heroes – this is the worst moment to welcome back a legend, we need monsters who breathe fire and their veins are filled with pure evil

  45. SUGA3

and just to rub it to the fuck in, ATVO are now showing the game v Everton from 2005…

Henry, Reyes, Bergkamp, Fabregas, Flamini, Edu, Lehmann, Senderos (fuck you Wenger), Campbell and (dare I say) Cole…

    *drools*

  46. Samir

    I would be v.happy with this in Jan;

    In;
    Englaar- 3-4M
    A big CF- 10-20M
    A big CB- 5-12M

If that does not happen then Van Basten would be perfect in the Summer to take over from Wenger!

  47. BillikenGooner

I’m not saying we need to or should, especially since we have no idea how a new manager would pan out, but…

A new manager wouldn’t be so emotionally invested in all these project players and would be able to cut the chaff and keep what talent he saw then be able to buy to fill the rest.
Cesc would most likely be gone with Wenger, so that would be a huge kitty of money to start with.

If we are going to wait for this next group of potential stars that are 18-22 to mature, we are going to be waiting another 5 years. And I’m beginning to think that is Wenger’s timeline.

  48. zeus

    Courtesy of the Telegraph……
The Arsenal manager refused to shake his Manchester City counterpart’s hand after being defeated in the Carling Cup. Hughes thought his visitor ungracious and lacking in respect.
“We all hurt when we get beaten,” said Hughes. “No one is more upset than me. But you should always offer your hand.”

Wenger replied: “I think I have nothing to say.”
Before adding: “I am free to shake hands with whom I want after the game. I have no professional courtesy.”
It was a nice line, that, with its implication that there is nothing less genuine than a bad loser pretending to be gracious. And Wenger is one of life’s most evident bad losers.
But then maybe Hughes should not have been too surprised that Wenger refused to participate in the empty ritual of the conciliatory shake. After all, he is French. And when it comes to football, the French have other uses for their hands.

    CUNTS.

  49. Samir

I hope Fabregas would give a new Manger a chance.
It could be used as a excuse to leave however.

But as they say “No player is bigger than the club”. Merida or Ramsey could step up.
    He is not irreplaceable.

  50. BillikenGooner

He has the last 2 years at least (if you count Hleb and Flamini leaving as not what he was expecting) to see that no matter how talented.. how much potential (in his eyes) a team of mostly 18-25 year olds isn’t going to win.
If he is still grooming *more* 18 year olds to soon be 1st teamers… and he expects them to compete with the Chelsea’s and United of the world (EPL..lets not talk Barca, RM, etc), then yeah.. his timeline has to be anotehr 5 years. Or he’s becoming delusional.

  51. wandarah

well you know, this blog values my opinion – and my opinion is that the little girls that are having a cry about losing against man city with the team we put out (and considering how we got there, and why) – are really a bunch of screaming little bitches that cant take it when it’s up them.

some of these clowns were singing wengers praises to heaven when we shoved 6 up everton away.

girls always have extreme reactions. here, there be girls.

  52. rtist

Excellent post today Pedro and I couldn’t agree more. If a manager in the States belittled a Cup Trophy competition, the owners would bury him: no matter the sport. To have a foreign manager sniff at another country’s sporting history is beyond arrogant. Those of you who live and eat in England are entitled to an opinion regarding something that is intrinsically yours. To embrace this demagogue for his position is puerile and a wreaks of grandstanding.

  53. SUGA3

look mate, it’s obvious that our first XI assembled by AW is awesome (considering the unthinkable of everyone being fit), but most of us here said we needed more players and now it’s ‘we told you so’…

it’s not about having a cry about losing to ManCity, as that was pretty much expected given the squads, there are deeper issues that need addressing, clear for anyone bar Our Glorious Leader…

last, but not least, I think this blog does not stand for insulting everyone on here, so again, play nice

  54. Samir

    Wandarah;
    What are you on about?
Of course we are going to be moaning, Wenger is buggering us up.
We are not going to be saying “Oh 3 great defeats, Wenger really is brilliant isn’t he wasting all our money on crap….. I think he deserves a payrise?

  55. Samir

It seems every year I try to believe in this team, but by December that belief has gone along with 99% pride of being a Gunner!

  56. wandarah

i didnt insult everyone on here, i insulted the people crying like woman – tearing at thier hair and demanding nothing more than the sacking of the manager, saying ridiculous things like our quite obviously successful youth policy is not useless because we lost against a team that spunked 1/4 billion pounds on a team.

these people can cry, and wail against the injustice of it all – but i wil gaurantee you now, a new manager may be able to buy 1 or 2 20million players, but that is all we can buy. to suggest anything else shows an extreme misundertanding of our financial position.

2 players will not win us the champions league.

if you sobbing woman want moriniho to come and work miracles, it wont happen.

the only manager for this club, until we are financial viable as a football club (i.e to the point of being able to buy at least 3 20 million players each window) without sinking into the debt which is already afflicating other clubs (and will get worse), is fortunately or unfortunately wenger.

any other agitation is delusional, stupid, and quite frankly at the moment, sad.

  57. SUGA3

    wandarah,

we are just 3 players at £15-20M each away from world domination – that would allow to cut deadwood, put fringe players in the reserves, teach them all to win the fucking lot, like ladies & yoofs ;)

that’s all – don’t mind AW staying if he makes the right moves…

  58. wandarah

oh, i forgot to mention: pointless.

am i happy we lost? no, idiot.

am i convinced by our first team? no.

do i think there are significant changes that could achive a positive result? yes.

do i think a change of first team management, at this stage is the correct way to achieve this? no.

do i think we can compete with chelsea or man city? no.

do i think we are incapable of competeing with chelsea or man city on a financial basis? yes, for the next 4 years, at least.

do i think wenger is quite possibly, the only coach to guide us through this period? yes.

do i think, if once outside of this period that we should persist with a policy of wengers which has inumerable flaws unless first team changes are made? no.

  59. wandarah

SUGA3: the complexity of the situation is not made more simple by purchasing 3 players of X cost, at X ability.

do you honestly think if we go out and buy villa, and Y dm and X cb that we will achieve global domination?

we JUST played a team that quite OBVIOUSLY has not acomplished that.

  60. Pat

    Fabianski
    Sagna Gallas Verm Traore
    Evoue Fabregas Denilson Nasri
    Eduardo Arshavin

    or

    Fabianski
    Sagna Gallas Verm Traore
    Nasri Denilson Cesc
    Rosicky Arshavin Eduardo

  61. SUGA3

besides, I would like the manager to treat the players right – I just watched Senderos of 2005, fuck me, where did it all go wrong? he didn’t just become shit overnight and he is excellent for Switzerland, given lack of proper match fitness…

should have some balls while dealing with cheeky/problematic players as well – they offer something else…

  62. Pedro

Wandarah, you really are a muppet aren’t you?

Who is asking for Arsenal to spend £60mill a summer? When would that ever be possible?

    Never…

Are you seriously telling me that two world class signing this summer wouldn’t have us in a far better situation? To deny that shows a real lack of understanding on your part.

I don’t understand what period you’re talking about, you’re changing facts to suit your argument.

Our situation this summer was £40million plus at least £30million from the clubs profit.

    I don’t see that as a situation…

You’ve even contradicted yourself in your two posts…

  63. leon

another major part of problems is that as a team they dont defend well at all the mentality of the team is to just out score there opisition i cant remember the last time this team kept a clean sheet which at one in a game there has been a defensive lapse and i dont just think thats dwon vern or gallas or song but as a team they have become sloppy defensively because they have gone on assumtion that they can simply score more goals than opisition and the fact is song vern and gallas have been one most consistant performers for the team so its not down to them and now goals are not going hope so easily now keeping a clean sheet is very important.

  64. Pat

Selling Cole was one of Wenger’s biggest mistakes.

SAF fights to keep his players, Wenger doesn’t.

This so-called legend promised he’d stay…and in the same season he left. Yes I’m talking about Henry. Love Arsenal? Bullshit.

Love is Totti, De Rossi, Del Piero who stayed with their clubs through shit times.

We’re a laughing stock and have no icons at this club

  65. Pedro

Pat, I’m getting t-shirts designed at the moment… I couldn’t think of many players I’d want on the shirt.

Vermaelen, Cesc and Robin was the best I could come up with.

  66. SUGA3

wandarah – yes, it is that simple:

    - Beast upfront (not Villa, another midget)
    - Beast in the midfield
    - Beast of a CB
    - would consider GK, but might be inclined to give Fabianski a shot with a team that has a spine in front of him
    - sell some players that are just not good enough (won’t say no names), this will give some of our stars a kick up the arse…

  67. B.B.K.

no lets not go and spend 40 million on better players that won’t help us do fuck all, lets just keep things the way they are and get bullied by all the other top teams,no,spendng all that money won’t put you into a better position will it…..

  68. B.B.K.

sell some players that are just not good enough (won’t say no names), this will give some of our stars a kick up the arse…That’s probably half this team then

  69. Baxter Wall

    Wengers Way Out.

I’ve been thinking a lot about this today and i’m still convinced that Wenger has a face saving way out of the mess we’re in.

Simply state that the his task over the last few years has been to keep the club competitive on a shoestring budget. Whilst at the same time preparing a team for the future. By and large he’s managed that.

Then say simply that the financial situation is now much rosier and in 18 months time this team will win things, but that he wants to deliver success now. Then demand 50m from the board buy a centre forward, a defensive midfield player and a centre back possibly a goalkeeper and once again he’s a hero.

  70. Pat

Wilshere and RVP love the Arsenal the most, imo.

I love wilshere. He seems like a little cunt(in a good way)! The way he niggled at Bellamy yesterday

  71. wandarah

pedro: you’ll have to be a little more lucid and coherent, are you drunk?

who is asking arsenal to spend 60 million? plenty of people are suggesting we should sign, x, or y, or x and y. read your own blog comments.

am i suggesting that a few more signing would not have made us better? perhaps, but we would not be first. we are punching above our weight, and have been for 3 years.

£30 million is not profit in the true sense of the word.

if that money is used to accelerate the exit of our position of debt, it can be construed as an investment. you seem to be of the opinion that £30 not spent, is £30 we should spend.

i am of the opinion that i do not think we could spend all of that money, and bring in a player, or players that would *drastically* affect our position in the table, or progress in the cup competition.

and, if we did – this negates any positive contribution that money has towards us exiting our current financial position more quickly.

essentially, and you may disagree – would i rather gamble on a short term ejaculation now – or would i guarantee a decade in which i could fuck relentlessy.

it is this very conundrum (the investment of an outside party aside) which afflicts arsenal fc, and wenger.

  72. SUGA3

Wilshere is like a little pitbull – I watched him a few times during games (little things you don’t see on TV) and he is just so lively it’s unbelievable: gets stuck in and cruises with his low centre of gravity, ‘Joe Cole on crack’ type…

  73. Pat

    Wenger hasn’t lost it.

He just needs to spend. No one, and I mean no one knows whats going on and whether or not he’s actually getting the money.

We’re constantly fucked with injuries. We have decent depth, but the injuries are ridiculous.

Don’t say everyone gets them, cause thats bullshit. We get the most and they take the longest. Cesc last season, RVP this season.

So United losing CR for a most the season(last season) or Rooney(this season).

CR has never had injuries at United. He goes to Madrid and he sits more than he plays ffs! United have been very lucky with injuries. Brown is better than Rio, who is and always has been vastly overrated.

  74. ethangunner

    wandarah

how can you still have faith in wenger when last season we complained to him about lack of experience during his open forum at the end of last year ,and still this season he ignored to address it ..

is 6 seasons enough of a drought for you ?

    obviously NOT !
i think for REAL fans it is ..
either that or stop bragging that we can
    win things

    - you have AA23 asking questions of wenger ..

wenger typically picks the minimum level of experience to go into each game with .

he played song – denilson when trying to win the midfield battle Vs the chev’s and produced a totally inferior side V’s the northern chev’s .failing on both occasions ..
lest we forget sunderland also ????
If this is what you class as a master mind
we are in serious trouble !

wenger is delusional if he thinks he has a crack at the C.L or the EPL title for that matter this season , his focus needs to be on RETURNING TO WINNING WAYS , and appease his dwindling fan base ! and achieve believable targets like the C.C and F.A !

start small and gather momentum !
going from nothing to winning the C.L in 1 season is a good sports movie plot , but sorry the real world don’t work like that …
    you need consistency

  75. SUGA3

wandarah, why wouldn’t we be first?

yes, we well fucking would be, if we had some more presence – our ‘physical players’ are Diaby & Bendtner, neither of them is defensive, the rest are 6 foot or less and we just get the shit kicked out of us – big players create space for nippers ;)

  76. Pedro

Wandarah, not drunk. I just find your know-it-all statements irritating.

You’re making assumptions based on nothing…

We had a substantial transfer budget going into the summer, an even more substantial figure towards the end.

There is no debating that point.

Our debt has been restructured as a mortgage… you know what one of those is right? You know why you take one out, right? To allow a business to function and pay off debt at the same time.

£30million is true profit in every sense of the word. There is no other way to look at it. There to do with as the manager pleases… as confirmed by the MD.

I mean seriously, spending £40million wouldn’t affect our league position? Dear oh dear, what a statement.

We lost to £250mill worth of talent… so money makes a difference there, but it wouldn’t to us? You’re contradicting yourself again.

You see, you can make your vocabulary as flowery as you like, it doesn’t change the fact you’re talking bollocks.

  77. Baxter Wall

    I blame Ajax.

We played them in the Champs league about 7 years ago and they had a bunch of young lively little players that buzzed around Vieira in the middle of the park and ran the game.

Wenger has been trying to recreate that ever since. I am convinced of it.

  78. SUGA3

Pedro, regarding fitness team: we’ve let Lewin fuck off to England national team – another easy snap from Arsenal, even the groundsman was ‘poached’

  79. Pedro

Pat, Theo has done a hammy… that’s being over worked.

Robin’s was bad luck. Rosickys earlier in the year wasn’t, Denilsons wasn’t, Clichy’s wasn’t… there are some serious flaws in out methods at the moment.

  80. Pedro

Suga, I’m talking about the fitness coach… I’m sure the medical guys are spot on.

I’m talking about the process before the players end up there.

  81. Pedro

Baxter, I understood the logic when we were moving grounds… but now we’ve got money coming out our ears… we should change the mind set… go out and spend if it’s needed.

Waiting 3 years for players to come good isn’t practical.

Is Cesc going to hang around forever, or will he want to challenge for things with a club who will spend?
