How funny is that then! The £40 million Hughes has spent on two of our rejects have both lost their form and it’s not even Christmas yet! Serves the bastard right. He says they have both lost their form but he hopes it will return tonight, now where have we heard that before???
He also said ‘Some clubs won’t go into the market and spend £5million on an 18-year-old. Arsenal have done that on many occasions. They spend significant amounts of money on young talent and, at times, the experience of the so-called youngsters is greater than you would think’
Wenger is often lauded for his frugal transfer dealings, but Hughes insists that a massive amount of money is instead spent by the north Londoners on acquiring young players from around the world.
Well thats what I’ve been saying for two years, so he’s right there, he claims Arsene says he doesn’t spend on big players because he likes to bring on the youngsters, but it’s a false economy because by the time they get good, we could have bought a ready made that would have worked years ago.
Take Theo, Ramsey and Denilson, between them they cost £16.5 million, add the money they have cost in salaries and then you can work out how much they have really cost, and none of them are regulars, we could have signed 3 world class players and got change out of that and they would have been ready to go 4 years ago. And yes, that included the £4mil discount Southampton gave us.
Anyway, lets hope the kids do us proud tonight and that the rejects have another shit game. Wenger also claims the experience the kids get from the Carling Cup is invaluable, he cites Fabregas, Bendtner, Song and Theo as examples of how that benefits the team, I’m not sure what benefit we got on Sunday, I’m not sure what benefit the kids get from playing 3 games in a cup they eventually get knocked out of, but there you go.
I can’t see how bringing them into the first team occasionally is any different, at least if the first team played in the Carling Cup, we would possibly win something, the Chavs will field their top team, shitty will tonight, the Mancs will by the time the final comes, but we won’t and I cannot see how getting beaten eventually will help our youth players develop.
Still let’s hope they go out tonight and stuff the northern chavs, let’s hope they show the first team what a bunch of losers they were against the southern chavs, and let’s hope we see someone in there, that can can step up, because what we have in the first team is not enough to win anything this season.
Go the kids, good luck, you have the hope of a nation on your young shoulders!
Have a great day Grovers and let’s hope we have a great evening as well! I could do with something to smile about!

Stonroy I ilke him too mate, and it’s nice to see a local boy in the team, but it was asking too much of any of the youngsters to come off the bench and make a difference against shitty’s first team.
Chipo as much as I want Bendtner to have it, he just doesn’t have it and I don’t know if he ever will. his first touch is not good enough, he is too heavy footed. Put it this way who would you rather have Dzeko or Bendtner? That’s the kind of quality we need, I think we have aimed our sights a little too low.
We needed a keeper and didn’t get one, we needed a big fuck off centre back and didn’t get one, we needed a defensive midfield power house and didn’t get one, and we sold a proven goalscorer and didn’t replace him.
Now forgive me for being forward, but in anyones book that’s not very clever is it.
We lost to ManU and Chelsea in the same week last season because our defending was shit, our midfield weak and we couldn’t finish.
One year one and fuck all has changed.
Odub that’s what English players bring, Wilshire was livid, and was getting stuck into it, he’s 17 and he was ready to rip that little gimp Bellamy’s head off.
Liam Lawernce will have a hayday aginst Traore the weekend. Man we are going to get seriously bullied in midfield and up front. Shawcross and Faye will bust EDS, let alone what they will do to a disintrested Arshavin.
We will need to be strong but yet play our intregate football at a faster pace than against Chelsea and be more expansive. The only real performance of note where we took apart physical teams were against Utd at home when we beat em 2-1 and aginst Milan away. In both games we played at seriously high tempos with fast passing and good closing down, we need that agin the weekend not this standing off shit where we let narrow teams play straight down the middle of us.
Careful Stonroy, some will call you myopic/r4cist!! but I agree.
Trophy miss count since 2005 = 21
dare i say and counting
Stonroy again i have to disagree. Thought Wilshere was really shit. Held onto the ball for far too long.
Not as bad as Rosicky though, Christ! Let’s just hope it’s rustiness…
Like a new signing is he?
Oh and Eduardo, he’s like a new signing as well is he?
2 pretty shocking new signings on current form
They can call me what they want Odub, but I want to see a bit of agression from our players, Paddy did and he wasn’t English but they are few and far in between.
Chippo, we lost our two main strikers etc, we sound worst than Spurs saying that in London Chelsea are superior to us because they have a better squad and can cope with losses of player and so beat us 3-0, we have a superior squad to Spurs and beat them 2-0 when they were missing players, its just the way the EPL is gone you have five tiers, Top 2 Chelsea and Utd,mediorc us,pool and citeh then you lower down to Spurs,Villa,Everton overacheivers who fall away towards end of season and then the relegation dog fight teams.
In a perfect world our first 11 is as competitive as Utd and Chelseas but how often will you have your first 11, it would appear in our case never
Chipo I agree he was a little rusty, but this is something different. If the game doesn’t go our way we whimper quietly to the whistle. In Ice hockey (I know a strange one to choose) there are people who’s job it is to go out and have a fight when your team is loosing, pick it up with a bit of aggression. While I’m not saying we should go that far, we do need someone to be that spark and we don’t have it.
Morning Geoff and All
ARSENE ,IM CONFUSED .
You play “the kids ” , they get thru a few rounds and ultimately lose . You won,t buy the two quality players we so need and ..we lose when it comes to the big game .
You had no one on the bench to come on and get us back in the game so the balance is wrong .
TELL ME HOW YOU THEREFORE BREED A WINNING MENTALITY
INTO THIS CLUB !?? WHAT WAS THE POINT OF LAST NIGHT !?..
GEOFF . I totally agree with you . I want ARSENAL FC BACK .
That wouldn’t be rac-ist, but its definitely myopic. Is Essien english, PV4, Cana, Flamini, Gattuso….??
Not really sure why I even bothered to start this list…
then you don,t shake hands , pathetic
Wenger reminds me of someone who refuses to believe that inflation exits and that the prices for players will eventually go back down. No they don’t, quality costs money.
I don’t know how long people can defend wenger. The man has lost the plot!! At the beginning of the season a lot of fans were saying this is his last chance. He has already blown it!! Once again he has failed to bring in the players we need. We need a new goalkeeper, A rock in midfield and a powerful striker who has a proven gaol scoring record. We can’t rely on van persie he is to injury prone!! We have no cover the centre backs!!
bang on Rob , read my 9.35
U still writing the post Peds. The day I tookout the time to get first spot had to be the day u wer elate.
I agree with you Sharkey, I do remember when Flamini came on and nearly drilled Nani into the third row, that was great. I guess I’m just frustrated because we don’t have that smeone.
Fabianski should start on Saturday. He made two top class saves, especially the one right at the end, claimed some dangerous crosses (only fluffed one) and make the right decisions (retreating to goal when bellamy was through and then stopping whore scoring.)
He is a class above Almunia if you ask me.
Wenger needs to re think or we may as well give up our season tickets, not winning is one thing, not expecting to is something else, and that’s what we have at the Arsenal now, even the spuds win the odd trophy.
At least my posts are on time.
Chipo so we should replace Coco the Clown with Bozo the clown?
New post!
I was not expecting to win the last 2 games, i’ve got to admit. The squad is lightweight, so there is no use kidding myself coz its The Arsenal thing to do.
I won’t settle for near enough is good enough.
No worries Stonroy…lets all just try too keep it rational.
Disappointong perfoprmance last night even if I didn;t expet a win. Complete lack of cohesion from start to finish.
Traore put up a decent fight, but the ref fucked him over with that yellow.
My ‘cousin’ Song had his worst game in a long time, some decent moments, but a lot of bad ones.
Wilshire and Merida both strggled badly for me…and as taem they all held onto the ball too long, over passed it, and kept ruinnig into blind alleys.
Was Eboue really playing RB..?? Eastmond left me completely unconvinced.
There also seemed to be two Silvestre’s out there, one average one, and a one legged one eyed one.
We did well to stay in the game as long as we did.
