Oh dear… a lesson in focus dished out by Sunderland. Review and Ratings

by & filed under Uncategorized.

I’m not sure if I’m lacking in enthusiasm or my stream was too poor… because I have nothing in the locker for this post.

The team laid out avoided most of the marmite temptations Wenger usually indulges in and I thought it looked like a side more than capable of dishing out a spanking.

How wrong was I?

The game was a cagey affair, with most of it spent in midfield. Sunderland did a brilliant job of nullifying the threat we posed, leaving long shots as the main goal threat. Arsenal never really got any fluency going with their passing and whilst no one had a particularly bad game, too many of our starting 11 stayed firmly in 2nd gear at about 2000rpm (Low revs is what I’m saying guys…).

I thought Song played pretty well, industrious and creative with his passing. He powered through the Sunderland midfield linking up nicely with Eduardo, who scooped wide. Some claimed Song should have finished it, I’d say the man is a holding midfielder and he was never going to finish.

Ramsey didn’t play particularly well. When he comes off the bench he looks like a terrier, when he starts, he sometimes fades into the back ground a little. I must confess, I wasn’t aware he was playing until about 20 minutes in.

Arsenal left themselves exposed on countless occasions and if it wasn’t for the poor finishing of Marlbranque, we could have been a couple down after the first half. Isn’t it odd how pleased we all are with Gallas-Vermaelen, yet we’ve shipped record goals this season?

Sunderland made it to half time and that was a worry.

The second half didn’t see much of an improvement from the Arsenal boys. The Black Cats created chances as did Arsenal, this was going to be decided by one goal and sadly it fell to Sunderland. A corner was whipped in, it fell to the back post where Frazier Campbell went unchallenged by Rosicky, he cut it back and who else was going to be there waiting to bundle it into the net? Darren fucking Bent… jeez…

A real sloppy goal for Arsenal to concede.

We kicked into 3rd gear after the goal but it was too little too late. Arshavin, Vela and Walcott tried to change the game, but they failed to make an impact.

Arsenal stumbled to defeat in the North in a flat, disappointing manner. Once again, the victims of the International Football curse.

I guess the only silver lining I can provide right now is we have an abundance of choice if changes are to be made in the next game. Arshavin, Theo and Vela will all be hungry to impress and if Wenger doesn’t fancy those three, well, we could always put Eboue and Denilson in there to strengthen things up!

I hope this is a lesson in focus. If you want to win the league, you have to be one your game, every game. The Premiership is too strong to take teams lightly. Wenger didn’t do anything wrong today, the players did. They need to dust themselves down, not let this affect them and concentrate on getting back on the victory path.

Keep the faith Grovers, we’ve got an important month come up, by the end, we’ll know what this team is made of.

Player Ratings:

Almunia: Made a couple of good saves and dealt well with the aerial threat. Had a bit of a clown moment towards the end of the half. Wasn’t to blame for the goal. 6

Sagna: Has become pivotal to our attack with his marauding runs. If he could cross it, the guy would be one of the most valuable players in the Premiership! I thought he defended well today, which is what he’s paid for. 7

Vermaelen: It’s a sorry situation when the player trying to get your attack going is your centre back. He tried the most outrageous volley from a most outrageous angle in the second half… what a goal that could have been! He reminds me of John Terry in an attacking sense. 7.5

Gallas: Booed with every touch today by the most retarded of supporters. Why do they care about the Irish? Had a solid game today, I was a bit worried about the hobble. It’s customary for Arsenal to have defensive crisis around this time of the year, so expect the worst. 7

Traore: I was so happy he was granted a start ahead of Silvestre. Too many people want to slate this lad down before he’s even had a chance. Today, I thought he played well. No hairy moments and great big dirty tackle at the end. I was impressed. 7

Song: I powerful performance in the middle of the park and nearly a goal. He doesn’t always come out with the ball, but he does enough to break up the play. His range of passing is improving by the game and his positional sense is gaining maturity. 7.5

Cesc: Plenty of long shots and creative thinking out there today, just a shame the rest of the team didn’t really work for him. 7

Rosicky: Showed some nice moves in the first half, but still a little rusty for my liking. It’s kind of how I remember him. A very good player, but rarely a game changer in my eyes. 6.5

Eduardo: Another of our new signings who failed to shine today. If he’s not scoring goals, generally he’s not doing much. We have to give him the chance to settle into the centralrole and I’m sure the goals will come… I’m just a bit worried about his overall team play. 6

Nasri: Workman like performance from a player we’re yet to see the best of. Hey, I know it might sound crazy, but I still don’t understand his role in the team… what does Nasri do that makes him a great player? I’d like to think we’ll have that answer at some point this season, but like Rosicky, he seems like he’s just there to link the play. I want more from my midfielders! 7

Rambo: Quieter than all the Spurs fans in my office at the moment. Didn’t really have much involvement in the first half bar a couple of duff shots. I rate this guy, but he didn’t do much to stake a claim today. 6

Subs:

Arshavin: Not enough time to influence the game. Actually scrap that, 30 minutes is plenty… he didn’t influence the game. 6

Vela: Came on, ran around a bit, was denied a nailed on penalty. I really hate that fat little referee… laughing an joking with the players like he’s their best mate. 6

Theo: Loves a scan this boy… Came on, didn’t hobble off. That’s a good performance in my eyes. 6

Have a great day Grovers! See you in the comments!

  1. SharkeySure

Man – Fuck me thats an out there shout..but you know what I’m leaning towards agreeing.

Ok maybe not quite agreeing but I 100% think its a valid question and can deffo see where you’re coming from.

Although if you’ve got a tin hat nearby I suggest you put it on now… ;-)

    INCOMING !!!!

  2. Pedro

Sharkey, I can assure you, Geoff is not my cousin!

Song tries hard, I don’t know whether I quite share the same glowing appraisal of him.

I don’t quite see the link people have with Diaby being out the team and us losing yesterday. It’s like the people who linked our stutter earlier in the season to Denilson being out the squad… we had a bad game as a team… I don’t think anyone was to blame individually.

Chelsea lost to Wigan 3-1! It happens!

  3. Man

    Pedro,

Good dancing, comedy moments, countless debates on le grove and oh yeah some surging runs and the fantastic run to the ECL final in 2006. Eboue was part of a squad you refer to as being unsuccessful but has been out there trying more than some of our favs. Surely you can’t deny that

    SS,
A night for friendly debate eh!

  4. Pedro

I don’t really see it Man… it’s a bit of an empty statement.

    How do you quantify trying?

    It’s merely an opinion…

I don’t really think effort is a problem with our team… it’s knowing how to see a game out, to deal with brutality and defensive mistakes.

Sharkey had a point about the bollocking… no one upholds standards when they’re dropping unless it’s by example.

Bit of a weird set up if you ask me… especially with youngsters.

  5. ethangunner

hey pedro I thought you would be over here by now !

listen we wont ever lift our game
(or trophies)whilst we dont have 3 or 4 key figures still missing .

a reliable as houses ‘goal keeper ‘
    (bring back vito ! )
clinical torres/villa style striker who scores every week ( yes another RVP )
a good solid option as back up CD
(thankfully TV or gallas hasnt got injured yet)
and whilst song has improved to NOT WOEFUL , he still gives it up too much and a EXPERIENCED DM
might help us stop hemorrhaging goals !

those 4 additions ,plus some good luck fitness wise and we are in with a shout .

Selection on Saturday was fine , just the players had no heart !
and further proof that consistency still is missing from the squad, you cant win anything like this !

  6. SharkeySure

Ethan…not gonna argue with you (too much!!)…but you need to watch an Arsenal game with a few Arsenal fans who’ll point stuff out to you.

I’m stunned by anyone who still thinks that Song isn’t AT LEAST a decent player.

It just gets ridiculous when people slate him for not scoring yesterday. He was faced up by two defenders in a pincer movement and skillfully slipped it back to a guy who is one of the deadliest finishers in Europe.

How does anyone, let alone an Arsenal fan, completely ignore the fact that he set up that chance from absolutely fucking nothing after ghosting past 3 or 4 defenders.

  7. SharkeySure

    Ethan you again…sorry.

You also say the players had no heart…Song had more heart than anyone, only Tommy V came close.

  8. SharkeySure

Ooops – “but you need to watch an Arsenal game with a few Arsenal fans who’ll point stuff out to you”

That doesn’t read too well doe it. I mean with someone who likes Song, and isn’t looking for his faults.

Man…loan me that tin hat will ya….

  9. SharkeySure

Man. Oh you jut mean he’s been available more..??

2006 he was brilliant. Since then to call him ‘patchy’ is being very euphemistic..but to be fair over the last 6-7mths he’s improved in a lot of areas.

He’s even won MoM’s (from Ped who doesnt like him) whilst playing out of position.

Three cheers for the Somali Pirate !!!

  10. ethangunner

yes sharkey , if he was so good we wouldnt have had to battle it out in the midfield on Saturday
we would have dominated them .

i dont need to sit down with ANYONE to see him
    cough up possession .

yes .. and you all thought ade was great too !
and it didnt matter how many fuckers you watched the game with !

  11. ethangunner

    sharkey

i can see your a SONG lover …
he is average , over played and over rated by most AKB’s

i admit he is better … so is the whole team !

but he still isn’t great going forward ..
and still coughs up way too much possession .
and is subject to more than his far share of stray passes .
he is capable of a senderos moment every game ..

if you can over look that with all you Arsenal MATES , then fine ….

  12. Pedro

I agree with Ethan… Song’s improvements are massively over blown.

I’m judging him by PV04 standards, Yaya or Essien… because that’s where we need to be.

I preferred Denilson sitting in that role… if he had more pace, I’d have him in their over Song.

  13. Man

zorrO what does KATG mean? I think I was here before MG not I’m sure Pedro can check that out…funny I thought SS was MG

  14. Pedro

Man, ManG has been here under a load of different guises… I think Spike and Angry loner were previous names?

I’m not sure who was here first, I’ll have a look!

  15. Man

that’s another funny one, Wenger sees Song as a CB but hardly plays there, so much so he spends 10m on another CB. Considering the stick he got from le grove I don’t think you can over blow Song’s ‘improvement’

  16. goonermichael

    Pedro
We often talk about players like Essien and Paddy.

They are so few and far betwen though. How many midfielders are there in the prem anywhere near as good as Essien? The mancs don’t have one and they spend shitloads

  17. AA23

Song was very good again yesterday like he has been all season.
Comparing him to Essien isnt fair, Essien is one of the best midfielders in the world, Song has the potential to be as good and he’s improving constantly.
Van Persie isnt as good as Torres, does that mean he’s shit?

  18. ethangunner

I agree with Ethan… Song’s improvements are massively over blown.

I’m judging him by PV04 standards
    ———————————–

even judging him by flamini standards he is no where near close !

but yes in the real world where wenger has about 20 mil at his disposal someone more like essien would be closer to the mark ,and more expected … too many people are settling for less than 100% in my view ..

if you are to believe we are as big as the board and wenger make out then we really need to have better 1st team personnel at our disposal ..

and i didnt need to sit down with a bunch of friends sharkey , i worked it out on my own :)

  19. ethangunner

    AA

i think if RVP stays fit he would prove to be as good as torres providing he gets the service . and can stay fit enough to maintain a run of form !

but if we are to favor the 4-4-2 we really need 2 class strikers .. once one is out .. we look fragile upfront .. Use sunderlands game as the example

2 class strikers would make us stand apart !
and my point all along has been why study the art of attacking football mr wenger when the strikers you have aren’t really upto scratch ..

  20. AA23

Ethan you think Van p can be as good as Torres and you may well be right.
I think Song can be as good as Essien. Essien is 5 years older, in 5 years Song will be as good if not better.
Sunderland yesterday could mean we need more strikers, it could also mean we had a tough away game after a nasty international break.
Lets see what happens next week.

  21. ethangunner

convert your chances into goals and you win …
dont do so and you will get SUNDERLAND ….

so going on that theory we need better strikers !
i hope dudu would come good but largely it hasnt worked so far for him ..

bring in vela – theo .. then you can still save the season arsene ! but not replacing ade with a quality striker will bite you in the ass soon enough !

  22. A

ethan it was less than 2 months ago you were saying kalou is better than vp, now vp is as good as torres?!

we don’t need forwards in the slightest, yesterday had nothing to do with forwards, it was an inability to create the chances, rosicky, nasri, and ramsey really weren’t sharp

  23. ethangunner

yes but do we have to wait until song is 28 (same age as essien ) or shouldn’t our club just fill the spot ASAP to get back on track …

you might call me a glory hunter !
but remember every year this club DOESNT win silverware we lose our swagger as a top flight club , those are the facts !

so either get with the program ASAP or run the chance of being like liverpool …..

    has beens !

  24. ethangunner

yes at least kalou stays fit for a season ..
its hard to judge RVP sustained form , because he cant stay fit long enough !

you know what i mean !

and id rather kalou THAN NO ONE !

  25. zorr0

Kreshnik, I think the problem was Fiorentina, not Juve.

Liverpool? Has beens? 5 European cups says otherwise, even though it’s nearly 20 years since a title.

  26. ethangunner

seeing nik B play 90 minutes against the chev’s is hardly going to be wengers 1st pick !

    is it ?

not in the real world !
id much prefer VILLA if you really knew anything about me at all !

and sorry there are a few strikers playing currently who look far sharper than any one of our squad ..

so your saying you’d prefer an RVP injury prone player than david villa ?

  27. A

Manchester City defender Kolo Toure has spoken for the first time about his move from Arsenal in the summer.

The Ivorian defender left the Emirates for 18.5 million euros during the summer transfer window amid rumours he had fallen out with a team mate, thought to be French centre back William Gallas.

Toure told Eurosport: “I had hoped to finish my career at Arsenal, but there are always banana skins on the road… I had problems with some players , especially one at Arsenal. I will not say the name because I don’t want to fuel the controversy. I never tried to put obstacles in the way of anyone, I never wanted to be captain.”

The 28-year-old added: “Last season I did not receive much playing time as there was a player who told the coach that he and I did not have an understanding on the field, which surprised me enormously.”

lol does kolo really think noone could work out who he’s talking about?!

  28. ethangunner

    zorro

wenger has made fists full of dollars on the transfer market in previous years , the cost should be irrelevant…

we made 64 mil + 11 mil in surplus transfers
    so theres a start ..

but lets face it zorro its just my pipe dream due to the lack of drive the club has to be no.1

we should be after the best players in the world then wenger can make them even more quality after imparting his knowledge on them .

instead we try and turn average players into good ones !

  29. A

Yeah SV I was very happy before the game! We just weren’t sharp though. If Fulop hadn’t made the save from Rosicky I think we would’ve walked it, but they set out very very defensively, and we just weren’t sharp enough to break them down. Cesc had some nice moments but was obviously tired, Nasri and Rosicky weren’t sharp at all, and Ramsey just wants too long on the ball all the time, moves really slow down when they get to him. Nasri, Rosicky, and Ramsey were the three players we were relying on to create, and it just didn’t happen, simple as that! Eduardo is lacking confidence in front of goal too, but once he gets a couple I reckon he’ll be back to his old clinical best. If he did and played regularly in this system I could see him getting 30 goals in a season!

It was just one of those games where it doesn’t click at all, as can happen after international breaks. The good news is that no more internationals for a while, we’ve got loads of players back who will get sharper and sharper, and I reckon we’ll give Chelsea a beating then go on from there. It’s good too that we have a nice home game on Tuesday to get us going again help get over the poor performance.

  30. A

Team for tuesday is going to be interesting, we’ve got so many forward options! I’d like to see Vela start, but also Eduardo, to try and get him a goal, and so that they can rotate the central role both could start. Arshavin is a very likely starter too, but then Theo, Rosicky, and Nasri all need games to get match fit, and a home game would be a nice one for Ramsey to start. Maybe Cesc could get a rest, and perhaps Arshavin too before Chelsea

  31. SV

Steve Bruce said they had to make just one save in the first 5 minutes and were not under pressure since than. He did not believe it turned out to be so easy to get 3 points from Arsenal. We did have some weak individual performances, especially from Risicky and Nasri who are midfielders and not forward players, but seriously we could expect more unwillingless to lose from the wholeteam. Wenger was as close to acknowledging that the side was complacent as it can get. Sickening.

  32. Pat

Song is a much better footballer than Flamini can dream of being.

    Positioning:Song
    Intelligence: Song
    Work rate/running:Flamini
    Passing:Song
    Shooting:Flamini
    Tackling:Song
    Strength:Song
    Pace:Same
    Aerial ability: Song

  33. A

Not sure it had anything to do with complacency SV! It was just a mixture of tiredness from the players who’d been on international duty, rustiness from the players just back from injury, and general disjointedness from the team as a whole, because they havn’t been training together because of internationals

    I’d agree with that Pat!

  34. zorr0

    A, defo Tuesday:

    Ebway, Senderos, TV, Silvestre
    Rosicky, Denilson, Vela
    Theo, Edu, Vela

I would like to see the above, to give some of them a rest before the biggest game of the season so far, we can NOT give the chavs 3 points; a draw is ok, but no way can we give them a win.

  35. SV

A, it’s Arsen’s opinion, not mine: many players came from internationals and expected an easy game forgetting how difficult the PM is. Sounds childish really and shows that we are not progressing. I’m not sure I agree with you that we do not have problems with strikers. Hoping that VP stays fit, Eduardo can play the lone striker in 4-3-3 or that Bendtner is ready is a gamble. We’ve paid for that and will pay again.

  36. zorr0

I think my team above might be too risky mind, as it is vital we win, so we can send a reserve team to Athens in 2 weeks.

  37. A

silvestre zorro?! traore will definitely play, silvestre doesn’t have a chance of coming in! You mean cesc or nasri rather than vela in the mid three?

SV i’ve not heard any wenger comments talking about complacency, poor performance etc, but not complacency. Bendtner is definitely ready, it’s a real pity he’s out now, he’s been superb centrally when played there, it’s only vp who’s kept him out. Eduardo and vela can play there too, and even arshavin, so we’ve got plenty of options. I’d prefer vela there though to eduardo, he’s better with his back to goal imo than eduardo is.

  38. A

ah ok zorro, yeah nasri would be nice. diaby won’t be fit i don’t think? he isn’t fit for a while is he?

speaking of traore – he seemed very disciplined and much less naive defensively yesterday, very promising. If he keeps that up he’ll be our best left back imo! though that late challenge was terrible!

  39. zorr0

Shame that A, as Silvestre is still an option at CB to cover injuries, and he will be better with some game time under his belt! Like it or not, he is one of the options for TV and Billy.

  40. A

yeah true zorro, but only if two players get injured! if he needs to play then stick him in rather than vermy, no way at left back!

  41. Pat

Wenger has too much faith in these chokers. FFS, the entire Sunderland spine was missing and they still had more spine than us!

  42. A

yeah SV, not prepared because of internationals and rustiness etc, not the same as complacency…. No team away at Sunderland would think they’re SO good that they’d exhibit complacency. We weren’t switched on, we weren’t sharp, but not because we thought it was going to be really easy

  43. A

I do zorro, just as much as i trust gibbs anyways, if not more if he continues being more mature defensively as he was against sunderland! If that’s the case then he’s better going forward, quicker and stronger!

  44. Pat

I thought we were good enough to win yesterday. The desire isn’t there imo. Towards the end, when Theo and Vela both whipped in great, low crosses into the box, no one actually slid for them. When I watch the mancs, the players attempt to slide in and tap it in, no matter how far away the ball is. Cesc and whoever else was in there didn’t do that

  45. Pat

    Against the Chavs:

    Almunia
    Sagna Gallas Verm Gibbs
    Cesc Song Nasri
    Theo/Rosicky Eduardo Arshavin

RVP ahead of Eduardo if the placenta crap works!

  46. zorr0

Have to admit I didn’t see the first half as I was playing, but I saw the 2nd and didn’t see a great deal of evidence to put Armand in front of Gibbs.

Pat, we do not have those type of strikers, and it was as frustrating as hell, when Theo put that ball across.

  47. SV

A, I think that’s exactly what Wenger said: some players after easy internationals forgot to do their best in a tough away game. An interesting observation by Lee Dixon today: this season Wenger was always able to find positives in our defeats, not this time however. I do feel for Wenger, he is let down by his players sometimes.

  48. Pat

Arshavin has been piss poor this season. He even said so himself. He said something about Olympiacos being his only good game

  49. SV

Pat, I agree with you. Desire is an issue. Players who talk about winning the title in every interview, do not do that extra effort to win the valuable points. Sometimes I wish they just keep silent and do the job. No improvement here from the last year.

  50. B.B.K.

Untill we stat buying powerful players we will continue as we are, wenger started his reign at arsenal with that sort of players, this is the premier league not the spanish league,if we was playing in spain we would have a chance of winning the league, over here it’s all about the power, not little fucking players who have no strength about them.

  51. Kreshnik

OK, posted this on my site and wanted to share with you guys as well.

    —————————
I generally hate judging players, for good or bad mostly because in the field I have studied and work, the system/strategy/training/style/architecture affects most of the time the outcome then the players/workers/users/people

That’s “most of the time” though, and not always. There’s definitely many times that one player alone can completely affect the outcome, Maradona at Napoli, Ronaldinho at Barca, Arshavin vs Liverpool, and many more examples. The more modern soccer becomes though, the less that seems to happen.

So, in modern soccer seems that depending on which formation a team uses, certain roles are quite crucial. The DM seems one of them on a 4-3-3, and Yaya Toure was the hidden reason of Barca’s success last year. Personally I find Song to be solid so far there, and if I compare him with Yaya he seems on the path to getting better, except the pace factor. He doesn’t have Yaya’s (or even Essien’s) explosive pace and because of the way he plays he might never do. But for a fluid attacking style that it’s a given to leave gaps behind, that sometimes proves to be a crucial feature on that role. The same feature is crucial on the LB and RB and not so important on the CB’s.

So this way we can continue and analyze players according to the adopted system and find out exactly why, Hleb, Flamini etc failed after they got out of their slots. A certain DM slot on a given system might need completely different properties from the player on a different system. In my opinion Arsene Wenger is an absolute genius at this and the reason why I love watching Arsenal play even if they haven’t won much.

But the game at Sunderland also brought something to light that I have noticed quite often at least happen with teams that employ the 4-3-3, or better a fluid 4-3-3 (Milan is playing 4-3-3 these days but it’s not a fluid 4-3-3, seems more like one that interchanges between a 4-5-1 to 4-3-3 only when they’re looking to score, got actually a lot to say about that and why it’s getting them to winning ways even with so many old players)

So what it brought to light is what I call “the soccer law of entropy”. Entropy represents the “potential for disorder” in a system. In an attacking fluid system such as Arsenal’s and Barca’s when they are in possession the game usually becomes a tik-tak-tik-tak – goal, with the fluid passing also predictable and stoppable if the appropriate discipline is used. The tiks and taks are obviously the fluid passes.

On Saturday the team seemed quite solid on paper with the so called unpopular players out and with most fans super excited. But Sunderland was able to intercept the tiks and taks quite affectively and even though part of it was the affect of an international week, most of it seemed like lack of ENTROPY. We simply didn’t have unpredictable players. Such players would introduce Entropy (hopefully) without breaking the fluidity. It seems that in these systems Entropy affects less the fluidity of the system and a lot more the actual opposition which now gets another variable whose value magnifies the amount of work to be done to follow and efficiently break the fluidity. So they end up working out casual defensive methods and are not able to follow the fluidity no more.

That’s why players like Diaby, Eboue, and Bendtner and some others actually balance the team and seem to be needed if added properly to the team. Obviously many other factors also come into play as I mentioned above but these are some pieces that Wenger seems to be very aware of.

Here’s to beating Chelsea on Saturday.

  52. Kreshnik

zorro, that’s right, Fiorentina is the issue, the accident happened to Juve supporters though and it’s really sad how much ignorance those ultras are showing.

  53. B.B.K.

We won’t win the prem playing this way,we do not have the power either.Untill we get the powerful players in were on a road to nowhere

  54. ethangunner

correct BBk 4 needed at least ..

    x1 goal keeper
    x1 experienced DM
x1 striker who strikes fear at any defense
x1 CD back up , fish face not good enough ..

allow who ever wenger picks will be out 50% of the time with injuries and at least we have added 2 players !

the problem is he wont and will keep faith in song – diaby – big Al – senderos and whom ever else that will dent his ego if he moves them on ..

we can see that choices like cesc – aa – nasri – vela are all quality .. but wenger still makes the fatal error of using the easy EPL games as a training camp for fringe players ..

whilst we drop points doing that we wont win shite .

Song is good enough. He bossed the midfield as much as 1 man could against Sunderland. Made Cana look foolish on several occasions.

We need a striker to cover for RVP, and a CDM to cover for Song.

Keeper could win us a few points as well

Song was really impressive against SUnderland and the only positive. That one point when he somehow got past 3 Sunderland players, looked for his teammate(nowhere to be found), and spotted Arshavin with that floated ball to the back post. That was world class material and at this rate, he can become world class.

Its all about how much he wants it, imo. He certainly has the ability

song has been very very solid..infact when geoff has a go at him in the posts for no reason but his personal dislike, it’s a little unfair as it’s read by many people

and it’s funny to see how everyone is leaving rosicky out of their line-up fr chelsea.I mean what’s wrong here? the guy has barely played and whenever he has , he shows his class..jus because he had a half-decent game and missed a sitter , people start having a go at him and out of nowhere diaby becomes the one to rescue us..are fans here that partially sighted??

Rosicky is unique and he should start against Chelsea. His work rate is underrated and so is his ability to thread through a pass.

    Almunia
    Sagna Gallas Verm Gibbs
    Cesc Song Diaby/Nasri
    Rosicky Eduardo Arshavin

yep i agree n i think that actually will be the line-up unless eboue is asked to step up and mesmerize us all with his fear-inducing , earth-shattering attacking displays

Not sure about that Arsenal. He’s very effective as a sub. We don’t know if he’s better or not cause he only played 1 game.

I wouldn’t rule it out though. Looks good against Blackburn and Brum,

Cheeky Arsenal fans have launched an audacious bid to get the Government to stop North London rivals Tottenham building a 56,000 super-stadium next to White Hart Lane.

They have launched a petition claiming the new ground will be a burden on match days to the local environment.

Arsene Wenger accused his strikers of “lacking desire and sharpness” as they failed to score for the first time this season.

In the absence of injured duo Robin van Persie and Nicklas Bendtner, Arsenal laboured and failed to threaten Sunderland’s defence. Eduardo, given the chance to lead the line, was particularly disappointing.

Wenger said: “Going forward we lacked sharpness, we lacked the desire to go behind defenders. We’ve chosen the easy part of the game and not exposed them with our pace in behind.

“If you want to score goals you have to go behind the defenders. We choked a little bit and chose the easy part of the game.

“Mentally it’s a blow. It’s a big disappointment because we know it was a very important game that we couldn’t afford to lose and we perhaps under-estimated how difficult it would be for us here.

“Give Sunderland credit, they defended with a lot of heart and great desire and they fought for every ball. They played it like it was a cup tie.

“We had more of the ball so they tried to stop us from playing. Sometimes they were on the fringe of the rules but that’s part of the game.”

Next up for Arsenal in the Premier League are Chelsea, but Wenger said: “It’s important to win the next game – that is in the Champions League – and to forget about Chelsea.”
