Watch the Liverpool game today, I’ll bet you there are a minimum of 10 incidents of cheating, go on count them, and I mean, gaining yards at throw ins, claiming corners that weren’t, claiming goal kicks that weren’t, faking injury, getting away with fouls, being offside and shaking their fingers at the ref, fouling someone and putting their hands up and saying they didn’t.
All the above is cheating and no worse that what Henry did, you can’t say I’m not a murderer because I only murdered one person, cheating is cheating no matter what you did, you can’t only cheat a bit, remember that when you watch today’s live game.
Onto today and the Sunderland game, we will probably rest Gallas and Sagna, as they played extra time on Wednesday, I expect to have Robin back leading the line and as he has has horse placenta injected, I also expect an increase in pace, we’ll see.
So at the back I think it will be Eboue, Senderos, Vermaelen, Silvestre.
In the middle I expect Rosicky, Song and Cesc and up front Arshavin, Eduardo and Nasri with Theo, Wilshere, Denilson, and Ramsey on the bench.
Diaby won’t play as he is injured otherwise he would have played up front and I’m putting Rosicky in the midfield but I wouldn’t be a bit surprised to see Denilson in there partnering Song.
With players like Walcott, Nasri, Rosicky, Ramsey and Wilshere available, it could be a very exciting team, but with players like Denilson and Eboue around it could be a very average team too, I think the chance for Wenger to have Eboue, Denilson and Song all on at the same time may be too much for him to resist, I hope to god I’m wrong, but we’ll find out soon enough.
Either way we need to win today, do that and next week’s showdown could be fantastic, especially if Wolves can get a point against the chavs.

I think of Roy Keane a bit like I think of your website, at times I can’t stand him and at times I think he’s the only person who has the balls to tell it like it is. This is one of those latter times. The sheer hysteria and hypocricy demonstrated by the Irish FA and the media has taken my breath away. Robbie Keane handled and tried to get away with it; he didn’t run up to the referee and apologise the second it happened. I know it shows my age but, for example, Francis Lee dived throughout the 70’s to win penalties.
The difference now being that we have the Sky 24 different camera angles slow-motion microscope to highlight any instance.

geoff, i disagree that cheating isn’t by degree. that doesn’t make sense at all to me. what’s worse, stealing 6 inches from a throw in or 10 yards?
you use murder as an example. but murder has several degrees in law and different punishments. equally the degree of the crime will result in different degrees of media coverage and public condemnation. you can kill someone and in a certain set of cirucmstances get downgraded to manslaughter. if you kill all your family and torture small children and bury them in your garden you’ll likely to be faced with global outrage and stronger public reaction.
TH’s cheating was cynical, deliberate, blatant and had a big impact and changed the outcome of a high stakes game. no doubt the nausiating sanctimonous response from the media is an attempt to make a moral stand. sending a message to fans and kids that its not acceptable. in a way this is fine, they’re just trying to make the game better, or prevent it from getting worse.
so when there’s high profile cheating its right, and only natural, for people to make a stand. TH deserves to be condemned. it’s probably unreasonable to expect all incidents of cheating, big or small, to receive as much attention.

agree cheating is cheating. i dont play golf but i imagine it’s a zero tolerance sport. any kind of tempering by a pro will likely result in massive loss of respect and widespread condemnation, even fines and bans.

MoW, that is my whole point, if you go down the route of pulling up cheats for cheating, you have to pull every cheat, for any kind of cheating.
Otherwise they’d have to say, getting a penalty falsely is cheating, but getting someone sent off by feigning injury is not. And so on.
You would have to have a ‘what is cheating’ handbook.

Yes Geoff as you can see above we agree cheating is cheating! But you’re hardly going to begin cutting down on the culture of cheating by addressing those cheats which dont clearly effect the result of the match. I think what you are saying is that basically all players are technically cheats and they probably are by definition.
What we have at present is a situation where it is acceptable to cheat all over the pitch. And if the Ref (or linesman) doesnt see it then its their fault. If we want this to carry on being acceptable then next time it happens to us all we can do is bitch knowing nothing will change.
Maybe we should just accept it knowing it could also work in our favour??

We have been previously cheated out of qualification twice through referees playing rediculous amounts of injury time until Belgium could score. Two bad or bribed refs or systematic fixing against small nations? We don’t know but certainly there must be more transparency and justice and Platini and Blatters cosy clubs have shown that they are unwilling to deliver this. If this travesty resulted in Video Replay being introduced it would be a victory worthy of the Irish teams performance. And maybe Cowen and Sarcozy and the other EU leaders should exercise some controls on UEFA+FIFA. Government funds, using their national identities? Should they allow them to pervert the essence of sport to suit their own financial ends, creating ill feeling between entire populations? Totally against the aims of the EU project and the purpose of international sport.
As a kid, I didn’t watch football for 2 years after the first Belgian experience. ‘What’s the point when it’s fixed anyway’. Not the lesson our kids need to learn.
We have to have as much justice as possible in the game, a lot more honesty and fair play (even if it’s only to keep the new video ref happy) and transparency at the top.
As for FIFA’s fair play and respect campaigns. They don’t even know the meaning. – Fucking hypocrites.

Song hung on to ball to much and apart from his pass to arsh his distripution was shit. Cana on the other hand must have broken down 60% of attacks and was much more composed and quick to ditribute. Lets face it its not just song but if we had Cana we could do that to other teams.

Bit of a mixed bag that.. Needed a point at least, even if it was just to keep the run going. Thought we needed to adapt back to a 4-4-1-1/4-4-2 without bendtner and van persie.. Eduardo, nasri and rosicky gave us nothing going forward and ramsey was too inconsistent in an away game like that, but it’s to be expected given his age and opportunities.
Vela did more than eduardo in 10 minutes and walcott gave us a directness we lacked from playing in that wide area.
Gibbs can’t get fit soon enough as traore is exactly what his squad position suggests he is.. 3rd choice left back at best. More suprised that sylvestre didn’t start to be honest..
Sagna and gallas gave very good performances albeit their expolits in midweek..
Nothing to panic about, we’re still in the mix with a game in hand and 5/8 points at this stage is nothing if we can mount a run of form from the back end of decemtber.
A good win against liege on tuesday is vital now to put us in the right frame of mind for the game against chelsea..
But wenger must learn to make better tactical decisions based on players available for the formation.. How did that 4-1-2-3 work 2day? Not very well. Until wenger can learn to play away from this 4-1-2-3 for every situation just like the 4-4-1-1 and 4-5-1 away in europe before that we won’t win anything, but be very good and do just enough to keep the ship steady.

It was a narrow loss but Sunderland’s gameplan won them the 3 points and we’ll be back on track. Based on today’s performance, I’ll take a draw against Chelsea, I just hope some of our big players will deliver some goals, Fab 4, Arshavin, Eduardo, they can still beat Chelsea but there has to be more fluid movement, hopefully Wenger will go through the game and sort it before Chelsea.
You occasionally lose and you just have to focus on the next game there’s no point in thinking about it now. Wenger will go through all the changing points in the game. Darren Bent just got the ball right in front of the box where he couldn’t miss, but a goal is a goal and this one was worth 3 points.We are bound to have a blip of one game where we don’t score.

Arshavin has been awful for a long time now. Probably worst 2 leg performance from a player I’ve ever seen when Russia played Slovenia. Completely anonymous, awful passing, dribbling didn’t work. Somethings wrong with him.

First off we did miss Van Persie today. It’s not the goals, it’s his overall game that is always dangerous to the opponent. Here’s to a quick magical recovery against the chelshit game.
Second, i might get a lot of stick for this, but I think Diaby instead of Ramsey would have been better. I don’t like when he loses the balls and misplaces passes either, but I really think he gives balance to our team, strength also.
Third and this is an important bit, passion and strength were mentioned often above, but to me those mostly translate to character. Fergie surely knows how to inject the piece of character needed to his players to actually come out on top even when the ugly mancs play shite. Wenger simply doesn’t have that gift. Having said that, the reason I am an Arsenal fan is because of the beautiful attacking game, and not winning games the crappy way, but if Arsenal wants to win something we surely need that in these kind of games

My two pence on that pathetic lost was all of our attacking players had an awful game. The ever reliable rosicky and nasri who before this seldom misplace any passes were both ok in the first half but in the second half both were caught ball watching and misplace quite alot of passes. Sagna and fabregas looked knackered and Traore has never impressed me as a left back.
And I think we will miss RVP more than just his goals and he’s overall play. RVP ,being Mr Arsenal this season, always plays with passion and aggression. Sometimes you can see how rvp gets angry to any arsenal player when they don’t pass the ball to him or misplace a pass. At least it shows that he cares and really wants to win. Just now, it looked like no one really cared.

I am not throwing my toys out of the pram on that game. a lot of things went against us today. bad fixture list luck (furthest PL trip after the 2 week break), should have had a penalty, Sunderland hardly created anything but scored from a set piece (got to sort that out).
OK I accept a few players were below average but I dont think its the end of the world. I felt united and West Ham game results were far worse.
what it does do is put huge pressure on the chelsea game. those 3 points are imperative. without a win next week, I honestly think it would put the title beyond us, barring a complete chelsea implosion, which doesn’t seem likely.
I always thought we needed to beat the chavs next week regardless of the sunderland result and I was actually just predicting a draw today – I knew it was a tough game at a difficult time. so we dropped 1 point. Lets just make that point up somewhere else down the line – maybe we can beat Liverpool at Anfield this season for example.

Reggie. I am disappointed obviously but I’ll wait and see how the team react over the next couple of weeks before I get too down about things. If I didn’t I”d be up and down like a yoyo. I watched the game live at the Emirates and thought Sunderland set out for a draw. I thought we were the better team but didn’t get it together on the day. Perhaps Rosicky, Nasri and Traore are all short of games. Perhaps the International break had an effect. As Wenger says, with football you get a chance to put things right pretty quickly so personally I won’t get too down quite yet. Having said that, I do understand the feelings of others.

A lot of analysis of the game will be detailed on here but, in short what went wrong is that The Arsenal give away a goal a game, & that is what happened again. So until this problem is remedied where as much emphasis is placed on keeping clean sheets as scoring from wonderfull build ups, The Arsenal will not win the PL.
This was a game that had to be a clean sheet. & no blame can be put on “marmite” players coz the only one out there was Song & he was very good IMO.

Until, highly skilled attackers are played who have a regimented defence to their game when required, this sort of result will happen again, & again.

I waited a couple of hours before facing the drama that will ensue with this defeat. Arsenal followers are just that! Dramatic….As well we should be because we are attacked and criticicized always…I enjoy defeats like papercuts or sunburn or death itself. But, I always love my team and am grateful for what pleasures I get 95% of the time! Should Rosicky scored? Of course! Should Eduardo have scored to answer the The RVP stupidity? Yes! Should Vermenator have won the first head ball that bent won and miraculously got a lucky give and go to score. Of course! I knew when all of this played out the way it did we would eventually lose….But, let’s not be so damning with this season..Let’s cerebralize things causing the setbacks of this game. Start with the positives: Traoure for one. He is massive in my opinion! He has more skill than both Gibbs and Clichy at the moment. His potential I would say is equal to or greater than the best left backs in the league currently Oh by the way have played consistently game in and game out this season. Alex Song is playing massive proving all critics wrong…Gallas continues to be massive as well! And, Almunia is just solid…What about Eduardo just clicks from scoring yet another goal in another game; His runs and what he does is equivalent to the best chess players that have ever played. The setbacks at the moment are very little in my eyes other than the win…Give credit where it is due. Sunderland were very good today which I believe was the reason they won! Bent was amazing today. He bullied our defense in both ends of the field. He got his reward when he scored. Cana was also a contributing factor in the win. Look at what was new in this game; Our whole lineup was new and was different from what I have seen this season. I believe though we should have won and we would have won “ugly” if a bit of luck was on our side!
