Country before club, when you’re being paid £80 grand a week, sorry those days have long gone.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Robin Van Persie has now put a nail in the coffin of our chances of silverware this season, do the good people of the Netherlands pay? Not unless they support the Arsenal they don’t, no I’ll tell you who pays, we do, the Arsenal fans.

It’s total bollocks, yet again another worthless friendly, yet again fragile Robin goes down whilst representing his country and yet again Arsene Wenger can blame injuries for wrecking our season.

Arsene, we get injuries every year, last season the big ones were Theo, Rosicky, Eduardo, Cesc and Gallas, this season the big ones are Rosicky, Theo, Bendtner, Denilson, Djourou and Robin, the pattern here is we will always get injuries, so if you sell a world class striker, replace him, because as sure as eggs are eggs, we’ll need one soon enough.

When players got paid £2k a week and England paid them the same, there was some method behind the madness of players turning out for their country, MONEY, when players are getting £80k a week from their club the priorities have changed, it’s not equal anymore and the fixtures should change in order to reflect that.

Why not carry on the EPL during the Internationals and do it with the players that don’t travel with their countries, it would be the same for everyone, I don’t remember this many England games years ago, I really don’t. I also remember when George Graham was manager we played Saudi Arabia and had 6 Arsenal players on the pitch, I was dead proud, now I’d be horrified.

When you speak to fans, most of them don’t give a rats arse about England games, except for the World Cup and the Euros. I remember always going to England home games, I remember watching Overmars and Bergkamp scoring to make it England 2 Holland 2 and more or less knocking us out of the world cup in 1994, I can even remember going to Frankfurt to watch England play Paraguay in the last world cup, but now, I’m totally uninterested, for me it’s Arsenal, watching England is like watching the odd rugby game or the 20/20 cricket.

It’s time the teams that paid these players wages hit back and said no, we pay the player extortionate wages, if you want them to play for you, you can use them in the holiday period. We’re independent enough now not to need UEFA.

The BBC just said that Robin could be out for 6 weeks, well if that’s the case, that’s good news, but we all know the boss and injuries, so expect 2-3 months, either way we need to buy.

Arsenal against all the odds have a real chance to win the Premiership this year, injuries are part and parcel of the game, so we need to ready our fringe players, get shot of those we have no intention of keeping and buy a few that can genuinely help us over the line.

We can’t do anything until January, but at least we can start the process. Come on Arsene, do the right thing, we have been patient. It won’t cost much.

Its kinda difficult for me Goonermichael, what with having an Irish mam!

But I have to say, Ive got more beef with the scots! Now, there hatred for us is unbelievable…

  2. Pedro

Who could hate the New Zealand team eh?!

Did you know they have the highest percentage of rape per 1000… in the world. Wellington is not a place to be out on your own if you’re a lady.

    Who qualified from Africa?

  3. tomstoned

    Afternoon All..

Great post Geoff Thx mate…its an easy solution to all this…get RvP well and then sell him asap..then we should also sell Rosicky…and Senderos are sure to be gone…then if Theo doesnt show that he can stay injury free..sell him too…its as Geoff said the internationals seems to be nothing but trouble…seemingly Diaby is injured too..sell him…
Let us at least get rid of those injury proned feckers..and then buy some MEN..who can tackle a tackle :)

other than that its another snowy but splendid day in Arsenal Paradise…Ramsey starting to shine..Wermy got a goal..Arshavin played very well…and Vela is back…lets rockn roll…

A christmas wish..a new first aid kit which i will personally send to Wenger including a fiver..lets hope he gets the hint …

    tom

  4. Nick

Pedro new Zealand is a scary gaff…looked into going out there for the best interest of the kids thought it was best for them to be foreign in some one else’s country rather then their own.
The crime figures are scary, safer here at least you know where not to go and the types to avoid out there who knows

  5. ManGoonian

    Nick;

    All good bruv…

    tom;

Has the Sun completely disapeared already? That 24 darkness is clearly affecting you dude! I suggest one of them lamps that gives off Sunlight and vitamin E too…

This Is Appreciated: An Instant Update On RVP From A Dutch TV Viewer
He was just on the phone with Jack van Gelder on the tv program Studio Voetbal. Robin says he will be out for about 4 to 6 weeks. He will get another scan tomorrow and will also consider going to Yugoslavia for a special treatment.

    With regards,

    From the BBC

Three British men have been killed and two others seriously injured in a car crash in The Netherlands, after they allegedly raided a cash machine.

Two men from Liverpool, aged 21 and 27, and a 25-year-old man from London were killed when their car hit the central reservation of the A12 near Utrecht.

Two other men, aged 25 and 28, and from Liverpool, suffered serious injuries in the crash on Friday night.

They have been arrested on suspicion of burglary, Dutch police said.
    ————————————————-

I know its tragic, but they had to be from Liverpool didn’t they.

    Mangoonian mate..

Sun hasnt all disappeared..even though in the darkest international moments it would seem like it..nope still three -four hours of light each day..and i not being affected at all MG…heck im being realistic..lets sell all injury prone player we’ve got..its clearly hampering our team…on the other side…there are clubs who actually buy players with injuries included..a kind of a package deal(l’pool)maybe thats the way to do it…not sure…

but seriously Rosicky should go…and so should RvP..better to get some money now than to risk loosing it all…he’s been nothin but trouble…Theo looks like he doesn have a decent bone in his body..so sell him…Senderos is another cup of tea..he’s just missing a brain that poor fella…Diaby…wont go there MG… :)

it seems that injury players are holding us up..and that we pay for a whole team that plays 10 games a season at most..not very financial clever…

and i actually am thinking about buying some crotches would go nicely with my Arshavin shirt..and then i would fit right in..maybe even gettin a call from Wenger..God knows i would be cheap enough :)

still MG we are the Worlds grestest team only gettin better…

    tom

I’m reading a book called Football Emperor about Chapman at the moment. Has anyone read it? It’s interestnig, Written in the 80′s before the premier league

  10. tomstoned

    Pedro..

breaking News…the l’pool lads was ripping of a coffee shop.and escaped with all guns smokin…

stil may you rest in peace..too young is all i can say..

    tom

  11. tomstoned

muy bien Pedro..and true…i was gettin somewhat bored with all the whining…ManGoonian pardon mate…i lost it there for a few didnt i…:)

  12. Arse&Nose

Diaby is injured again, I expect Ramsey to start the next few games. The kid is on fire at the moment and should be able to grab his chance now.

  13. Mayank

I wish the news situation stayed the same. Sure we were fighting a lot but atleast everyone was fit.
Also the placenta talk had me removing all the mozzarella from my pizza.

  14. Mayank

Sunderland might be missing some muscle in the middle if so then we can give Ramsey a start. IMO the more chances he gets the less likely he is to have an ordinary game because of trying to hard.

  15. tomstoned

    Pedro…

i am thankful for the fantastic job, Geoff and yourself puts in ,keeping Le Grove the best blog by far…and sometimes my own redneck self shoots to quick and post to soon..merde..

then again its all allowed in Arsenal Paradise ?

    tom

  16. Pedro

Mayank, as long as Song is playing… Diaby isn’t a loss…

Rambo plays that role with so much more conviction for me…

I really think we’re going to roll Sunderland! I have no worries! Eddy is back scoring as well… so hopefully the impact of losing RvP wont be so bad…

  17. Ja_Gunner

But Ramsey has a back problem as well….

Pedro..the African countries that qualified are

    1. Cameroon
    2. Nigeria
    3. Ivory Coast
    4. Ghana

Egypt and Algeria have to play off Wednesday…

P.S. I didnt know New Zealand had much crime..seems strange

  18. Mayank

Diaby will be missed in games like Villa away if he’s not playing. For all his mistakes he does get in the opposition’s way a good amount.

  19. Mayank

Yeah even i thought both New Zealand and Aus had the ‘No worries maite’ mentality. Doesn’t fit the image of a rapist!

  20. Ja_Gunner

This the team I would play against Sunderland…

    …………………….Al…………………………
    Sagna/EB…….Gallas/Senderos………Vermy………Gibbs
    ……………………Song………………………..
    ……Cesc…………………………….Nasri…….
    ..Rosicky…………….Eddy………………….Vela…

I bring Arshy off the bench only if we need him….

Also Gallas will coming back late…so not so sure about him…

Song only played one game..and so far Cesc has only played 30 mins….Eddy played only one game as well

Nasri and ROsicky have would have been resting for 2 weeks so they will be ready to go….

  21. Arse&Nose

Vela is the chip master, that is true.

Did you know he had a near fatal accident with a lawnmower when he was 6 years old. They rushed him to hospital and had to replace the broken bone with a lob wedge iron golf club, and this is why he is the chip master.

  22. SharkeySure

    I think Rambo’s injury is a ‘I don’t do U21′s anymore’ type of injury.

Funny though cos it will mean he played the Scots in a friendly then missed the U21 qualifier !!

  23. SharkeySure

JA_Gun….NZ and high crime ‘eh…not quite giving JA a run for its money yet though are they. ;-)

I’m pretty sure that the Dons of TG or Arnett Gardens wouldn’t be quaking in their boots walknig thru Wellington day or night !!!

  24. SharkeySure

    True that ManG.

I had most of Sept at home unemployed/between jobs.

Passing the time was a right struggle. DaytimeTV – WTF !!!

  25. ManGoonian

    True Sharkey mate..

I am struggling here. Ive had this effin lurgy for 2 weeks now! Got noooo energy, achy as fook, so cant even use the time off work to indulge….

Oh and BTW, co i am sure you all need to know, April is the most injured month, November 2nd!

  26. Big Raddy

Spent a few months in NZ. Brilliant place and am shocked by the rape statistic.

Nick. Best place to raise kids in the world IMO. A functioning multi-racial society that retains a belief in decency and honesty.

That said some f*cker stole my sunglasses, but the perp was probably a scouse backpacker.

  27. choy

Why can’t we just bring back fab and verm.. its just a friendly.

Arsh and the french contingent have an important game. The rest should be called back.

  28. gunnergetyou

with denilson coming back from injury and ramsey in great form the competition for places is really hotting up in the midfield.

    I think our strongest midfield trio is;
    —–song——
    —cesc-nasri—

but we do have other good options.

  29. Nick

Big raddy thats what i herd my mrs mate lives out there and she came over full of it got excepted in princaple then the crime figures put me off a bit.
Got mates in oz myself but they have tooled up insects which aint a bit of me.
So looks like i will stay here for while yet :(

  30. ManGoonian

    choy;

Well, hopefully the Spanish and Belgian coaches are prepared to make sure the players dont get over used. I dont think Cesc played much Saturday, so expect him to start tomorrow…

Why they need to play 2 friendlies in 5 days is beyond me…Oh yeah, for the TV rights & sponsorship cash!

  31. Big Raddy

Do you think that the Spanish equivalent of the Mail writes about MU/Chavs/Us tapping up all their players?

    Hope so

  32. Big Raddy

    Nick.

I spent time in Oz as well. Great place but the wildlife and the climate are bastards. Had some of the scariest moments of my life confronted by Oz insects and snakes

NZ is like England 25 years ago (as I am sure you have heard)

England is a great place too, if you can afford to live in the right areas

  33. Pat

The agent of Ricky van Wolfswinkel Louis Loras told Sport.co.uk editor Nigel Brown:

“I have heard the rumours linking him with a move to Arsenal, but I can confirm that there is no firm offers or contact from the club. Ricky is happy at FC Utrecht because he is playing regularly, playing well and learning.

“I do not think that he will move abroad right now, I think he will maybe look to go to an Ajax, or an AZ Alkmaar before he goes abroad. I can confirm that scouts from Arsenal, and Premier League clubs have watched him, but this is obvious, because he is a top young Dutch striker.

“I think a move to Arsenal is something that could happen in a few years, but at the moment Ricky wants to learn, and play regular football. If he went to Arsenal he wouldn’t be playing as regularly as he would want.”

When asked what type of player van Wolfswinkel was Loras replied:

“He is like Marco Van Basten. Obviously not as good as Van Basten, but their styles are similar.

  34. Pat

Casacrino told the Times: “Have Arsenal’s title hopes gone up in smoke now that Robin van Persie is injured?”
“It was just about the worst possible news for Arsène Wenger, the Arsenal manager.”
“Van Persie has been brilliant and he’s arguably Arsenal’s most important player after Cesc Fàbregas.”
“He’s also the best dead-ball specialist in English football, now that Cristiano Ronaldo’s gone.”

  35. ManGoonian

    Pat;

Cascarino was only too happy to tell all and sundry at the start of the season that Arsenal had NO CHANCE, now he is acting like one of those hacks who are pretending it was other people saying that and he always thought we’d do well…

Only Andy Gray said we’d challenge… That is effin weird innit???

  36. Big Raddy

    Right MG.

What pisses me off is at whose expense do they play?

Do the players get a cut of the match fee?

Do the clubs get the players wages refunded?

Do the National teams insure the players over & above the clubs insurance?

Why should any club be forced to foot the bill so that a National Federation can make a ton of money, and get 1st class flights, entertainment and a huge wage packet for prostituting our players?

It’s bollocks. And I am sure it is that fat shit Platini’s fault. UEFA trying to re-establish International football as the prime product over the EPL/La Liga etc

  37. Arse&Nose

“He’s also the best dead-ball specialist in English football, now that Cristiano Ronaldo’s gone.”

haha even when he compliments arsenal Cascarino shows how thick he is, when was the last time RVP scored from a free kick!?

  38. Big Raddy

First up against the wall. Alongside Phil Brown, Fat Sam, Sparky. The swine who fucked Eduardo, Ade, Bellamy, Lee Bowyer, Joey Barton, Platini, .

The list is too long to contemplate.

  39. Mayank

On the club v/s country thing, while its true the players should have the club as it’s priority as the club pays them more playing for your country generates money too. Just how many ads has Walcott features in after the hat-trick?
So while common courtesy says it should be club before country there is money to be made on both sides.

  40. Big Raddy

GGU. The man is a scouser. He must be very happy at the state of his beloved L’pool. It would be fantastic if they go out the CL in the early stages, and finish outside the top 6 (Us, Chavs, MU, MC, AV, Spuds . in that order)

    Oh, how we would laugh….

  41. Mayank

If i had to pick someone to go out of the top four it’s be Man U. Can’t stand their cuntiness. Of course that would give Ronaldo too much credit. Life’s just not fair.

  42. Big Raddy

Mayank. I fail to see how Theo having a high profile benefits AFC. TW gets the income from his image rights.

The only benefit to AFC is the potential cash in value should he be sold. But set against that is the increase of his wages as a high profile star.

But …. I have to say I was very proud when AFC won the WC with TH, PV & MP.

  43. Big Raddy

    Mayank.

If I could choose the Top 4 it would be Arsenal, Brighton, Barnet and Cheltenham.

    but I would take

    Us, Wolves, Fulham Burnley

  44. Mayank

No it doesn’t benefit us in any way, I was referring to the main post which suggested that player have no personal stake in the internationals but national pride.
Anyway, shirt sales for a successful Theo would be more that those for a successful Vela.

I used to support France because of the Arsenal connection as well as one of my favourite players ever ZZ. Now it’s Spain.
Such is the wandering nature of a football fan from a football starved country.

  45. gunnergetyou

It seems we are a club in deep crisis, our main striker rvp ruled out for the season, eduardo’s off to liverpool and vela no longer exists.

The media are truley bunch of cowboys who cant wait to turn on us.

News of The World – “Last Sunday we wrongly stated that Arsene Wenger had threatened to quit Arsenal and move to another club.

We now know this to be incorrect.

We also accept Mr Wenger is happy with Mr Alisher Usmanov as a major shareholder and does not believe he is seeking to interfere in the club. We apologise for any upset this story has caused.”

  46. ManGoonian

    Mayank;

    Indeed s/he does…

Sure there are many fans who detest England games and dont want their players flying off for tournaments and qualifying games, let alone friendlies!

Yet most fans have no problem with it, although if you ever go to Old Trafford, they like to sing Argentina (although they might have to change that to South Korea, or sumfin?)

It is the pretence and sabre rattling from Blatter and Platini trying to justify their fat salaries by comin up with more and more pointless games, like the Confeds Cup, and others and the fact alot of countries will play 2 friendlies this week to raise some cash, when there’s billions sat in FIFA’s coffers…

To then slate a nation (England) and brag about your own, is, to, offensive and I would say, xenophobic… Something I thought only the haCKs revelled in…

  47. gunnergetyou

Mang, i guess thats why we’re stuck with Silvestre, a player with no future, who has no complaints about playing 2nd fiddle to the first choice.

Still are gonna need stronger back up.

Maybe we should just go for a a strong DM, so that we can move Song into defence if Gallas gets injured.

  48. Mayank

The truth is club football can survive and thrive without Intlnls whereas the reverse doesn’t apply. That is why some respect should be shown by the teams to the clubs who’ve invested huge amounts of time and money in developing a player for them.

Indeed players should play for the countries in the tournaments but when it comes to such friendlies and other unimportant matches i think a little discretion would help. Even if Holland won that one 10-0 what would it achieve?

  49. Big Raddy

    Great link Mayank.

    B. Lots to say about your rant.

Firstly, I am proud of my nation but do not accept that illiterate thugs like John Terry represent me. If Terry (the Captain no less) chooses not to play in friendlies, what is their real value.

I have no problem with the WC. In fact I love it, but meaningless friendlies that only serve to fill the pockets of the FA are a waste of time. For any country – even yours

Would I play for my country ahead of my club ? Of course I would. But if my employer refused to pay me, I would still play. How many of our England team would do the same?

RvP chooses to play for Holland, fair play to him. But I do not believe it should be his decision.

Club over National team? Every time….

BTW. Where I was born is a REAL country. A proper nation. A land that is inclusive of all ….. can you say the same?

  50. Big Raddy

Didn’t see B’s follow up comment.

What a silly little boy. Probably whacking off to on the porno channels by now

  51. Big Raddy

GGU. I don’t understand the call for a back up DM or CB.

Song is only out for 5 weeks, and we have replacements. (Nasri, Denilson). At CB we have JD to return who IMO will be a terrific player.

  52. Mayank

The guy’s my favourite YT guitarist.
Also positive brigade? I resent that generalisation! I’m plenty negative, for example it’s cold and it’s raining and i don’t have my winter clothes out yet. Tomorrow morning isn’t something i’m positive about.

  53. Pedro

B, you’re from Norway, your home league is pretty weak, so of course you’re going to enjoy international football more. It’s the only chance you get to watch semi decent football (Usually the opposition if you get a nice group draw).

As for being a real country to be proud of, did you qualify for the world cup this year? I think not…

As you’ve probably never attended the Emirates, I won’t even dignify that point with an answer.

I’ll politely ask you to fuck off to another blog and to turn the spell checker on before you drop childish comments on someone else’s blog.

  54. ManGoonian

    GGY;

To be foar to Theo, I think he was in a very difficult position. He would’ve been slated by the hacks and his National pride and other such jingoistic shit called into question…

I am sure things would be different next time…

Although, did anyone see that Pearce has been playing Gibbs inh central midfield??? You know? Just to mess withn his head and place him in the most dangerous position for an injury!

    What a genius…

  55. rico

    Evening Le Grove,

Great post, and it is time that we follow other clubs and make excuses for our players – worthless matches are just that and they have no purpose, especially as Holland are through and dont need ‘training game’ to ensure their are at peak form to play an important qualifier..

Hey Pedro, just want to say thanks :)

  56. gunnergetyou

mang, you could be onto something there with Pearce, Gibbs said that Pearce wanted him to play in midfield so that he could put the opposition under more pressure. Sounds dodgey to me.

  57. Pedro

ManG, I just read that… he’s quite a tall player, very quick, good at defending and good going forward… could be the dream ticket in a few years!

  58. rico

    ManG

I am with you on that, Bloomin Pearce says he could ‘do better’ but plays him in the wrong position!
Play him at LB and then judge him I say…. gggggrrr

  59. ManGoonian

Seeing as its Movie Monday, just a quick word for Edward Woodward…

He who starred in The Wicker Man…

    A feckin awesome film…

Oh and the Equalizer was cool too! Well, I loved the theme tune anyways!

  60. Pedro

It doesn’t hurt to get a few positions under your belt!

Flamini started of in centre mid, did half a season at left back, then went back to midfield.

    Gibbs will be fine!

  61. Pat

Well, RVP is probably the best dead ball specialist. That doesn’t mean he has to score. No one takes better corners imo, same goes to free kicks, when he’s not shooting.

Whats amazing about Andy Gray saying we had a chance? I’m 18 and when I started watching football, or at least whenever i heard Gray commentate an Arsenal game, he always struck me as an Arsenal fan. He was always praising us and saying only good things.

I don’t understand the hate towards him on this blog, just as I don’t understand the hate towards Palmer who is the most reliable when it comes down to Arsenal news. He may not always be right, but he’s “more right” than everyone else

  62. ManGoonian

    Pat;

Each to their own fella… Maybe its due to the goading of Richard Keys whenever he and Gray discuss “selective” football matters. I have seen way too many negative, slurs spread by the pair of em. The fact he is seen as one of the most impartial pundits, is more down the sub standard quality of the field.

    As for Palmer…

Jeeez, that twisted old fool is soooo wrong on soooooo many levels…

It isnt even anything to do with the fact he aint a Gooner either…

He is sooo quick to slate… (RvP is selfish, lazy, not a team player and will fail in the 4-3-3, Clichy is shite, Vermilli wont work, Henry will never be a decent striker…) Just 1s I can think of, which I would rather not thanks!

But, its a free world, apparantly…

  63. ManGoonian

    gunnergetyou;

Yep, he flies off to Lithuania on Tuesday to probably play in central midfield!

Brilliant prep before our weekend fixture… But I am sure “b” is probably shakin his non-wankin fist at the PC screen for that one!
