Manuel back to his best says Arsene, that’s good then! Eastmond travels.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

So the boss says Manuel is back to his best, that sounds to me like to manager is happy with his keeper and that’s a worry, if we had a Seaman in goal I could understand that comment but we don’t, so if he’s content, get used to it people, he won’t be looking for another.

Ok, word on the street is, that young Craig Eastmond travels today, perhaps Wenger is looking at his replacement options for the ACN, I would like to see if this kid can have another good game, blooding him against Wolves could be an inspired moved, if he does, good luck Craig.

News that we’re after Ozil sounds like complete bollocks to me, as the article says he is a replacement for Cesc, well as Cesc is going nowhere, that makes it a non story, and anyway, we have Ramsey and of course, Fran Merida, which brings me onto todays question.

You could say that losing Wiltord and Edu on free’s was a little careless, and that losing Flamini for zip was a bit daft, but to lose Fran Merida for nothing at the end of the season would be staggering. I’m sure we wouldn’t have allowed his contract to wind down, especially as we spent all summer getting the rest of the team on long term contracts, Gazidas is way too smart, isn’t he?

Carlo Ancellotti sees us as his main threat this season, nice little compliment that, and high time we were talked about as potential champions again, today is a good test, but anything less than a win would be a major disappointment, so let’s hope we go at them as if they were some foreign team.

I watched ‘The Damned United’ last night, boy that took me back to what a real tackle was! If you haven’t seen it, get it, it’s so well acted it ought to get an Oscar, it takes you to the day when football really was a mans game, and when I see teams now roughing us up, it makes me laugh, watch this film and you’ll know what roughing up is!

Have a great day Grovers, it’s in our hands and today the Arsenal will close the gap, and don’t forget, we’ll score more than they do, and that’s all that’s needed!

Not sure how long some of you have been following The Arsenal i reckon i may be one of the longest.Without doubt this is the best football i have ever seen, enjoy it.

  2. colonel mustard

stupid goal to concede yet again. you could have bet your house on it we leave one in. takes the sheen of this great win as you can see this achilles will cost us in bigger games no doubt. we just cannot lose this habit

  3. Emperor Gooner

it jus pisses me off that we having won the game 4-1 and that too away , still have moaners and whiners who instead of appreciating the solid performance would rather pound on that 1 goal that we conceded..it’s almost like they want that to happen so they’ll have something to kill time by cryin about it!!it’s like when a woman sees another woman who’s more attractive than herself , she has to bitch about her even though whatever she says sounds absolutely ridiculous!!

  4. izham

guys we should stop with all these petty arguements..let’s bask in the glory that we’re now 2nd in the league..

We should stay focus for the whole game and should make clean sheet a habit..it’s not about we will outscore u, it’s about leading 1-0 and knowing that the opponent won’t have a chance of scoring against us..

the goal we conceded was because Vermaelen was outsmart by the wolves player for making good runs, leapt and headed well..

we shouldn’t point a finger to a player for conceding the corner in the first place, it should be the team’s responsibility to defend at set pieces..Song came on give our team a nice balance and shape and yet was slate for conceding the corner where he blocked the path of the cross earlier..

sorry for the long post and poor English (not my first language)

  5. Keyser

gambon – Bollocks, how the fuck can you apply sweeping generalistaions to vastly differing performances, games and team sheets.

Randomly choosing games we’ve conceeded in spanning two seasons shows how silly your argument is. This ‘big test’ thing is a load of nonsense aswell, last year we lost to teams like Stoke, Hull and Fulham, this year we’ve gone to Citeh and United away and lost quite evenly contested games, and even fucking then with players out and decisions that went against us.

That doesn’t mean we haven’t improved since then, it doesn’t mean we won’t improve with players coming back and decisions going for us, all things considered we look quite well placed.

  6. gambon

    Paul,

I agree, along with the team of 02/03/04 its awesome.

Just need to tighten up at the back before the business end of the season.

  7. ikon

Mayank, Vermaelen was tracking someone else, and lost him when he saw the to be scorer taking the leap. He was just about to leap to get the ball first, but he was a bit too late. He wasnt ducking. If you see almunia, he decides to come forward and then goes back. At the end of his petty movements, he is nowhere. He looks confused most of the times, something Vito wasnt when he played.

But I can not complain if we concede one goal after scoring 4. Maybe the guys remember that in the next game and it helps to maintain the defensive level.

Pat as far as i remember Song played shit against all teams last season. It is only this season he has started showing consistency. Against both city and united he was below par imo.
Let us just wait and watch a full season and then make our judgement. I am still suspect about him solely due to the fact that he plays in a position which requires mobility and he lacks that more than anyone in the squad. Yes he makes that up for good positional sense and immense strength. But against good passing sides he will be found wanting.

  8. finestcuts

What if we keep winning with this habit colonel mustard? I don’t think it will tbh, as long as we’re firing on all cylinders we’ll keep winning. Have a look at past stats with Sol Campbell et all, Wenger teams are never hailed for their defensive prowess. We’ve only ever won one cup defending and that’s the FA cup, other than that, it’s high scoring wins that have seen us through.

  9. Keyser

Mayank – Song uses his physicality, but he doesn’t impose himself as much as others do, he plays the percentages game defensively, keeps things simple and ticking over, thats pretty much what Denilson does to.

  10. namibian gooner

great win. we looked in trouble until song came on. and we cant keep a clean sheet. we asked for 3 points, what did we get? so be happy. AND I GOT THE MATCH PREDICTION SPOT ON.

  11. colonel mustard

the point on the late concession is we dont have a abilty to close a game. its was keeps us below Chelsea and United for now…

  12. Stu

Just watching the prem highlights from todays games. On the spuds game. Defoe looks like he kicked Gordon in the face. Gordon had to go off injured but i havent seen a replay of the incident yet. Looks like the dirty spud bastard meant it. Anyone see it?

  13. patthegooner

    Ikon,

This time last year, you would not have found a more anti-Song Gooner than me, but I am really warming to him now.

I like to think I say it how I see it, and for me, he has been pretty consistent and our most improved player since January.

I Honestly believe that if he was turning in these performances for Villa or Everton, we would all be hoping we would sign him, but he has been pretty shit early on in his career and I feel a lot of Gooners can’t get past that and Appreciate what he is now.

  14. ikon

    Totally agree with finest.
The reason we were all worried about our defenses last season because we were struggling to even create chances. So a slim 1-0 or 2-1 lead was always vulnerable. This season has been (at least until now) a complete turn around.

I bet you will every attacking team being on the edge in defending, due to the attacking mentality. As an attacking team I rather feel we have done marvelously well in our defenses.

  15. Emperor Gooner

“the point on the late concession is we dont have a abilty to close a game. its was keeps us below Chelsea and United for now…”

i think the game was pretty fukn well closed by then!!

  16. namibian gooner

watch the spuds game and sunderland we playing very well but couldn’t locate a goal even with gps. if they play an open game like today then we will score another 4 goals in the next game.

  17. gambon

    Emperor,

Do you remember newcastle circa 1995?

Theres a fine line between Barca last year, and that fragile keegan team.

I dont wanna take anything away from a good win, but we need to be careful.

  18. ikon

Its good seeing that players look a bit disappointed at giving up the clean sheet.

Anyways I am off. It was a perfect win for us imho. And here is to hoping we put in the same level of performance against the rest of the sides starting Sunderland.

I am just getting the feeling that we might have a bit too much for every team except maybe for Chelsea.

  19. goonermichael

doubt it. I don’t know anything about boxing now. I stopped watching it after the fight when Benn brain damaged maclellen. I thinnk a lot of it’s fixed anyway

  20. namibian gooner

Geoff, since you no good with predictions maybe you should let me do the predos from now on. i seem to get them right these days. RE: 09:44. check the comment.

  21. goonermichael

You have to say valuev is in the blue shorts. A bit fucking obvious though. Can’t say David Haye is the small black one.

  22. leon

i felt ramsey had a pretty good game for a rookie,i feel its to early to say weather he can play dm i would say dm with diaby or delinson could work but its important remember he is only 18.all round once agian they defended very well vern did not have his best ever but he was still very good, what is so laugheble is because man city spend all that money they ever a threat to top 4 and we can see that there defence and dm is that great at all and barry is not that good at and both lescott and toure are not that good either

  23. gazzap

vermaelen was trying to get out of the way so Almunia could just deal with it. he was fully expecting keeper to come and punch or catch. he looks up and see manuel nowhere near. he was very disappointed. he will have learnt not to trust him!

Ramsey was good. I think he preferred the attacking role after song came on.

  24. Confidentgoner

Great win, did not watch, glad Diaby had to go off at 20 mins. Changing gear to boring boring italian league: Melo scored a nice pile driver against Inter Milan

  25. patthegooner

I Think the Russian is toying with him. I think he could up his game and knock him out in a second.

    Fucking Boring

  26. ManGoonian

Yes I! 4-1 to the mighty morphin power Gunners!

Fuck me, dunno whats more annoying? This fight or Jim Watts shite punditry???

  27. ManGoonian

    reggie reg;

Haye needs to hit Valuev in the bread basket dont he? Well, thats what my grandad would’ve said anyways!

Stick and move, bob and weave…

  28. patthegooner

I think this should be a boxing first

Instead of declaring a winner, they should declare they were both an embarrasement to Boxing and give everyone there money back

  29. Rhyle

Ah…ManG – giving away some Oirish heritage there wit yuir cheeky fillum!

It is a very dull fight, but give Valuev some credit – his defence is solid. He’s tight and everything that Haye throws falls on the gloves, arms or shoulders.

  30. ManGoonian

Haye was the better fighter for me. Should’ve gone for it a bit more though. For the good of boxing, haye should win.

  31. Rhyle

Apart from the last round Haye spent that entire fight on the back foot and offered nothing going forward. Bit like Wolves.

  32. ManGoonian

There’s nothing in the rules that says you cant hit and move. Sugar Ray Leonard did it loads and given the size and weight difference, you cannot blame Haye for adopting that approach.

  33. Rhyle

FUCK HEAVYWEIGHT BOXING – in fact, fuck boxing. Bunch of corrupt fucking bullshit. There is no way on earth that anyone (bar the almost annoyingly psychic ManG) could give that fight to that wanker.

  34. Rhyle

ManG – Haye landed pretty much fuck all relevant until the last round. Fuck all!!!

Valuev was the more aggressive and threw / landed more and should have scored more.

    I call SHENANIGANS!

  35. ManGoonian

    Truth;

    Agree 100% mate.

    Rhle;

I used to love boxing asmuch as football. But I havent bothered for several years now, it is corrupt and dodgy as fuck, with too many ordinary fighters having their careers stage managed by snide managers and promoters.

Heavy weight Boxing needs Haye, maybe thats why he got the decision?

    Wouldnt surprise me…

  36. ManGoonian

    Rhyle;

I just thought haye was the better of the 2 fighters, overall. Considering how shite a fighter the russian is, they aint difficult! he is just a big ugly c*nt who is very hard to knock down, although I think haye couldve done that too. Apparantly Haye did his right hand in after the 2nd round too…

  37. Rhyle

ManG – it’s a shame if Haye is the last hope of the heavyweight division – scratch that…SHAMEFUL.

I’m with you – fallen out of bed with boxing, don’t even train any more. There are few fighters now who’ll keep me up to the wee hours and make me part with £15 to watch. Haye isn’t one of them. He’s an embarrassment.

Here’s to someone knocking ten barrels of snot out of him next time out!

  38. Rhyle

Valuev has one speed and one style I’ll give you that.

The epitome of one dimensional, he was still better than Haye tonight. I’m amazed Haye didn’t hit the deck out of dizziness…

  39. Rhyle

Truth – ring craft? Really? His defence was tight…he’s just not the most mobile. When you’re 7’2” and fighting guys a foot shorter than you it’s a pretty good idea to sit in the middle of the ring and invite them in to you. That’s common sense – what did you expect him to do?

  40. ManGoonian

Yeah Valuev was like one of those journeymen fighters who are soooo predictable. Any kinda movement by a half decent opponent would fox em good stylee.

How he was a World Champion is a feckin joke!

  41. Truth

Exactly my friend, Haye being the shorter of the two was not gonna stand within reach and just get picked off, hence his tactics of using his speed and mobility to out fox his opponent seems to have paid off.

  42. Rhyle

Truth – if by ‘out foxing’ his opponent you mean not throwing or landing any punches – yes, he would have won. Boy…boxing has changed since I was a kid. I remember it being about scoring with punches and being aggressive, both of which Valuev did and Haye…well…didn’t.

  43. Rhyle

ManG – I know but you can’t blame them – that’ll be the FA’s dodgy goal panel crediting it as an OG surely?

  44. reggie57

I always thought the aggresive fighter got awarded more points? haye done fuck all in the fight and the result makes a mockery of the noble art!!

  45. gnarleygeorge9

3 words describes that performance, Premiers In Waiting. We must be a real chance coz the northern chavs are slagging off Le Gaffer, again. We are a threat, & when we are a threat, manure fans switch on their defense mechanisms, their single diget IQ’s.

ManGoon, mate how lucky are you going to be till May,& beyond, in amongst the baron brains giving them the shits. Enjoy :P

  46. incesc

    WE ARE ARSENAL

we score 3 – 4 goal every game

something special is happening, i doubted arsene but potential is turning into reality

    its exciting.

nasri rosicky and walcott havent played this season and we have scored more goals than ever before

  47. gnarleygeorge9

Is, um, you know, whats his name, I’ve forgotten his name, anyway is he out injured for mancity or just plain useless. Heres a clue, he used to be off side alot for us, but his name still slips my mind

  48. gnarleygeorge9

2 seasons a go, Cesc was scoring @ will, then they dried up. The rest is history. Cesc is scoring @ will again, this time Le gaffer, please keep that flood of goals coming all the way to the end, even if they come from Nascar, Mozart, Arswaxin, Theo, Eddie, etc.

Ladies & Gentlemen, we have the amo, its the battle plain that must be spot on.

  49. incesc

    adebayor??????????????????

    hahahahahahaha

    enjoy your money you cunt

    man city champions league hahahahaha

if we get 2nd its a tradegy if citeh get 4th its a miracle

  50. gnarleygeorge9

oh did he Rhyle, but didn’t score. He must have scored the goal he planned to score, 10 seconds before he ran his heart out to be near The Arsenal fans :) that time.

  51. Rhyle

Agreed incesc…We’re going to need depth across the pitch and players of the quality of Nasri, Rosicky certainly have the potential to give us something extra when the tank is running on fumes.

  52. ManGoonian

Evra has once againj been mouthing off. he really is an annoying twat. Hope he gets fucked up tomorrow and breaks Drogba’s legs in the mass brawl that follows Lampard and Rooney’s red cards…

  53. Lou

Having watched the game at a friends house this evening I have to say I am pleased I never extended my Sky package to include ESPN. It beggars belief that a professional sports channel can make such a monumental cpck-up where the PL coverage is concerned. In Joe Royal they have picked the most unimaginative, partially sighted co-commentator I have ever heard. He makes Andy Gray sound like a footballing genius. According to Royal, Arsenal were quite fortunate not to be 3 goals down after 20 minutes. Has no-one told him that defending is part of the game too? When a Wolves striker leaps in the air with his arm outstretched above his head in an effort to palm the ball into the net Royal considers him unlucky to be booked. The list goes on and on. The man sees virtually nothing and makes comments that teeter close to insanity. We are so poorly served where sensible comment is concerned. Don’t even get me started on Shearer, Redknapp and the rest.

  54. ManGoonian

    Lou;

ESPN make Setanta’s efforts look state of the art and high brow!

Pundits are, on the whole, stoopid, clueless, cliche ridden, lazy and biased. Royle is particuklarly bad and I am soooo glad I didnt have to suffer his crap tonight!

  55. Jaguar

Majestic performance in the second half.Just goes on to show, how well Arsenal plays with out that retard Diaby.I hope he doesnt get selectyed anymore this year.Wanker, has done fuckall, apart from keeping better talents like Ramsey on the bench.

  56. keith

Some of the much earlier comments about letting a goal in are unbelievable – yes at times perhaps we weren’t out of 2nd gear and yes we want perfection but jeeez some of the negativity that we let a goal in is just bordering on lunacy get a grip.

I, in my youth had to endure the crap teams under Don Howe, Terrry Neil and the end Graham years-we are so spoilt now and yet some people still moan. I am not having ago at the persons bloggging now but those on earlier.

I know a number dont go to games and I am privileged being a season ticket holder myself but i have seen sooooo much negavity on this site that people have to realise we do have it sooooo much better than other teams -just think what its like to be a Liverpool supporter now!

  57. nishanth

Great performance yesterday.Did struggle a bit in the opening 20 minutes but then we were playing a diaby-ramsey midfield whic i don’t think is the rifht combination.Song played really well after coming on.Some of our moves were just sublime and our third goal was top class

  58. LAzer

    My thoughts on the game..

First off, I may earn a yellow for this later but I thought a lot of the commentary on the Grove was a disgrace. Some of you lot are such whining moaning bitches, first you endlessly berate Song and now you want him in the 11, then you can’t wait for Ramsey to get playing time and then you whine when he starts. The bottom line I have had to accept is no matter what their will always be a debbie downer in the crowd but when the comments start applauding injuries it comes across as very twat-ish imo. Their were fellows on here who couldn’t wait to start rubbing their clits at home with news of Diaby’s injury, and that’s a bloody shame. Ok RANT over.

    Lets talk football..

It was a typical EPL away sort of fixture so many of Arsene’s team have had trouble dealing with in the past with complacency setting in too often mixed with a lackadaisical approach. But this team, SO FAR they have proven us all wrong bar the nervousness in Manchester. As expected the first 15-20 mins Wolves got amongst us and tried to challenge for every ball and close our play down hard. They succeeded for the most part but lets be honest we all should know by now that that cannot go on for the full 90. Once the floodgates opened it was always going to be pouring. It would be interesting to see how we would react on a similar fixture where we concede first but that has not happened yet so fingers crossed.

    Sagna
Was good in defense and solid all around I thought. He was not exactly marauding down the sides but all in all a solid stable performance from a very reliable player.

    Gallas
Had a few balls he had to chase and make last ditch tackles for, one which earned him a yellow. He was a little behind the run of play at the start and this is the type of game we would have conceded in early with Kolo’s nervousness and similarity at his side last term. Not the case anymore, and I thought he picked up his game well and good for him his tackles came off.

    TV
Good solid game again. His left foot almost provided some wonderful route 1 assists more then once when Wolves were amongst us and chasing every ball in midfield. A gem of a find he has been and call me AKB all you like on this one but credit where credit is due, their is only one Arsene Wenger to buy a 5’11 left back a few months ago and have him be a dominant CB in the most competitive league in the world. He lost his marker for the set piece in the end but I can guarantee the way this man plays he will be beating himself over it more then any of us will.

    Gibbs
Young Gibbs is coming along slowly but surely. I think he is better in the tackle then Clichy already but leaves a bit to be desired position and passing wise. I would also expect more interceptions and disruption of opposition play from him. He had several passes not come off but I will cut him some slack for having too much nervous energy. I think he will settle soon, decent game but I look for improvement.

    Diaby
I felt he was having an ALRIGHT game, this was preciously the type of game he needed to step up in and not get caught with the ball at his feet. He had some misplaced passes but in the 20 odd mins it seemed he would grow with the game. I am not trying to defend him, but like everyone else I seem to notice his performance/mistakes a bit more then others and am trying to cut him some slack for once. Maybe I just feel bad about an injury, but I STILL think he has a role to play for us during the course of the season and we will need his particular physical game at times. The wall looked tiny for example. Hope its nothing serious, recover well Abou.

    Ramsey
Rambo showed a lot of things today. He has an amazing engine and was running the entire game, I for one did not know that before today’s performance. You could tell he was really up for it, I am glad Wenger has the lad motivated to prove a point and claim a starting role not just given one for the sake of it. But he also showed his naivety at times, his passes did not come of too well and his teamwork and understanding with the squad leaves a bit to be desired. Also like Gibbs he has too much nervous energy atm but let me stand back and say he is one of the most physically developed and complete 18 yr olds I have ever seen. The teamwork and interplay will come for sure, seems like another Wenger gem he will need to polish properly. I think we have a beast on our hands.

    Fab4
Cesc was majestic, he is becoming such a complete player and to think he is only 22. Long may he stay and long may all of us love him, not much to add here really.

    Arshavin
Great performance from the little Russian. I feared he would not show up to this game and play down to the oppositions level but him and the squad look motivated and focused right which should cause a lot of fear for opposing defenses in the coming months. You could tell he wanted to get on the score sheet when the tie was secure, good for him.

    Eddy
He had a solid game, I say this quietly and while throwing some salt over my shoulder but since his return from the ghastly injury he looks faster almost and his teamwork and interplay is off the charts now. We know he is clinical and will pop up in the right place at the right time, two O.Gs were both caused by him, brilliant performance, enough said.

    RVP
Mr. Arsenal showed up to the party yet again. Like Arsene said he is fully ingrained in the way we play now. Maybe I won’t go as far as saying he is the best CF in the country but in our setup and our style I cannot think of a better player who is both able to do the setup work for others and be a constant goal threat himself. When was the last time Torres and Drogba climbed up the assist ladder like that?

    Song
So I’ll put my hand up and admit I had a rant about him till midway of last term and I was wrong as wrong can be. Geoff may go on berating him all he wants but I fear there may be some humble pie in the long run for him. I have had half of my pie already, yes there is still some ways to go yet for Song but he has really really grown on me. Most improved player I have ever seen in 6-8 odd months by a country mile. Very assured, calm and stable performance today.

  59. LAzer

We’ll see him at Eastlands soon enough, I wonder if Wengs sticks with Sendy and Silvestre how they deal with him. I know he will unless injury concerns so its not even worth worrying about. Would be nice to see him dominated by our 3rd and 4th choice pair.

  60. nishanth

Sagna has been really good recently.Easily our best defender. One can never accuse him of sloppiness.Top performance yesterday

  61. gnarleygeorge9

Just a quick summary of the game. 1st 25 minutes Wolves looked likey to score, & pretty much controlled the game IMO, then BANG! BANG! BANG! & it was in the bag for The Arsenal. I like it when you can enjoy a 2nd half like that :)

Rambo will become a sensation with more starts & expert guidance from those around him. Song was good coming off the bench. A well deserved 3 points, coz this was a fixture in the not too distant past that might have been a draw or even a loss.

  62. ethangunner

    THE HEADLINE !

Manuel back to his best says Arsene, that’s good then!

yes i saw he was back to his best in the 89th minute !

  63. ethangunner

Rambo will become a sensation with more starts & expert guidance from those around him.

    so correct GG ,
thats why we dont need to burn precious game time developing twats like diaby – eboue etc. when you have vela – jack and rambo WAITING !!

wenger is worrying about creating new stars who will eventually want the stardom matched in wages !

cant think of a reason to stunt jack off hand …, they didnt with cesc ..

we could do with 2 of him couldnt we ????

  64. Micky Did It 89

Feeling GREAT this morning. Looking forward to Chavs-Utd. No pressure either way. Great to see either lose! (3-0 Chavs, I say).
We have the most potent, fluid and interchangeable attacking 5 in football.
    Truly happy days.
Have a great sunday Grovers. Its roast pork and crackling down here in the woods of Devon.
    Goon to the Moon.

  65. LAzer

Thanks Mayank. Yeah I said he caused both, shame they didn’t give the 2nd one to him, you’re right. It was the typical audacious sort of shot only he would take and deserves the credit. If that were Rooney I bet he would get it. And he didn’t even claim the first one.

  66. bnsb

If that were Rooney I bet he would get it. And he didn’t even claim the first one.

He looked visibly embarrassed at the attention, but he engineered that first OG, didnt he, cunning devil :)
