Stan, are you Glazier in disguise? Merida in his last year and uncle Festa orders a trophy.

October 11, 2009

Okay so a lot of kerfuffle this morning Grovers. It appears that our quiet American has been buying shares from Danny boy and Carr but forgot to pay for them, which is the old American way of doing business, buying companies with other peoples money, naughty.

This is what the Times said…

‘The one positive thing about Arsenal was they were always British owned and not in the hands of an American who finances everything through debt unlike a couple of clubs we can name, that utopia may well be about to end in the near future’

Now I can’t think why Fizman and his mates would sell their shares to someone who won’t pay for them straight off, Carr’s owed money that goes back 10 months, I thought Kroenke was a billionaire?

Here Danny, I’ll have them on those terms, especially if he gets a large salary as well, are you mugs?

Nina, I’ll buy yours as well, I could take Arsenal football club over without paying for a single share, eat your heart out Usminov, you’re doing it the wrong way!

I sure hope all these stories are untrue, this is very reminiscent of what the Glaziers did at ManU, took a profitable well run club, and plunged it into debt, no thanks USA.

Other news is Fran Merida is flattered that Athletico are after him and his contract with Arsenal is going to run out next season. If it’s true then get shot of him, he has apparently said he turned down a 5 year contract with us too. I like Fran a lot, but if he thinks Athletico is a better bet than Arsenal, sell him in January and put your efforts into one of the young English kids, if of course these rumours are true.

Ivan has told Arsene that he needs to deliver a trophy this year and the fans are more important than the revenue, this is what the Mail said he said.

‘This club exists for the fans and they don’t care about financial reports, they care about what happens on the pitch’

If true, then he is to be applauded, but somehow I can’t see anyone taking the boss on in footballing matters, especially when there is veiled threat in there.

Finally a word of congratulations for our young men winning the under 21′s game for us, a big pat on the back for Keiran Gibbs who generously scored for both sides to make them feel better!

I just hope so much that those three can dislodge some of the prima donnas in the first team, especially if one of them is Cashley Cole.

Have a great day Grovers, only 6 days to go!

Le Grove finally sells out to ADVERTISING! / Oh no David Dein didn’t?

October 10, 2009

Good morning Grovers! Winter has finally crashed in with an unwelcome bang, lashings of rain, a sharp breeze and loads of gloominess to make getting up for work that little bit harder! Oh the joys of living in the UK.

Nothing like a £4.99 England match against the Ukraine to help you forget all your worries, eh? That’s terrific. During an international week, I can’t even bore myself to sleep by heading down the pub to watch the game with the swathes of ‘Ingerlaaaaand’ supporters who rear their ugly faces for the once every 3 month occasion. I wonder how many viewers Bet365 will miss out on by streaming the match at home? I wonder if the FA’s sponsor; EON, realise their ‘Get down the pub to watch football because it’s greener’ advert now looks a little stupid. Millions of power draining PC’s will be purring tonight because the FA sold out the environment as well as the fans!

Referring to the headline, yes, we’ve sold out… but only to a charity! Oh my, I bet I had a few of the conspiracy theorists a little damp when they clicked on this morning!

Basically this is a message for anyone who feels guilty about not buying the Gooner Review CD I so eloquently critiqued a couple of months ago. Their worldwide Première is this coming Tuesday and tickets are only £7 online! I believe Paul Kay is going to be there, some ex players and a few others I dare not mention! Oh, and I’ll be there as well… I only communicate via the blog, so if you see me and you want to chat, make sure you have an iPhone or blackberry to hand…

Here are the details:

lunapic-125447998990060

Hopefully we’ll see a few of you there, the Gooner review was excellent, so it won’t be a wasted journey… plus, you’ll have done your mandatory bit for Charity this year and you’ll have had a crack at the same time.

In other news, apparently David Dein secured first refusal for Cesc with Barcelona way back when. I don’t really get this first refusal malarkey, just like I don’t get the pre-contract agreements players supposedly sign when they’re under contract. I think the Barca propaganda machine is gearing up for a year of unsettling behaviour. If the other blogs liked us, I’d suggest we all run intermittent stories about Barcelona players all year… get our own back and see if we can cause trouble… shame we’re in a gang of our own!

Finally, I saw an interview on another website for a book. Just so you know, the PR agency for this book contacted me to ask whether I’d publicise it for free, to which I declined but I did say I’d do it if I had the chance to interview the authors. Well, it looks like the authors shied away… maybe it was the run in with Geoff one of them had a few years back over an article on the onlineGooner, maybe it was because one of the authors is a half spud… maybe it’s because they heard Le Grove is a massive supporter of cornflakes, not porridge or muesli (read here). We’ll never know Grovers, we’ll never know!

Anyway, I’m off for a bowl of Kellogg’s finest, have a rip roaring Saturday, please resist the meds and vodka cupboard… normal football will resume soon!

Hoyte is off, does that mean another English talent won’t make it?

October 9, 2009

So Gavin Hoyte has signed for Brighton, on loan it has to be said, but that now means that Simpson, Lansbury, Thomas and Hoyte are all out on loan, is that saying he believes the young English kids will make it, or they are just not good enough, did Theo, Wilshere or Ramsey go on loan?

Ashley Cole did though so maybe… It’s a question, that’s all, not a whine, over the years we’ve had a lot of talent go south so I always get a little nervous when we lose young players on loan, wondering if they are valued, wondering whether we’ll see them again, Hoyte didn’t stand out for me so I won’t be devastated if he left, but after waiting so long for them to come through the ranks I always feel a part of me dies when they go out on loan.

Cesc says he’s loving the 4-3-3 and it gives him more freedom, it makes you wonder why it took so long for the boss to give it a go doesn’t it? I mean no one liked 4-5-1, we certainly hated it, so at least we are at last doing something both the fans and the players both like.

Not a big news day today so maybe tomorrow will bring something special, maybe tomorrow will unleash a loan signing like Paddy, at least tomorrow means we are a day closer to next Saturday when we get to see the Arsenal again.

Have a great day Grovers, at least Friday is joke day!

Now Arsene you’ve been once bitten, don’t be twice shy.

October 8, 2009

What does that mean? Read on my fellow travellers, read on.

Cast your mind back to when we lost Wiltord on a free, we all said who cares? That was of course until he became the top scorer in the French league, shortly after that we lost Edu, some would say a little careless that, but did we learn our lesson? Did we heck, then we lost Campbell, so by now we would have to be the worst management team in world football to let that happen again wouldn’t we?

…Then we lost Flamini, so now we really are dumb. So what should we never do again?

That’s right, you got it, we should never let a player get into the last 12 months of their contracts, because if we do they can go to a club and get the transfer budget paid into their own sky rockets and not the clubs, and frankly, who can blame them.

Now I know we give players that already have 3 year contracts, massive extensions, that does nothing in my book, save giving them a huge pay rise, we should look at players that we like that are nearing the end of their contracts, and extend them, at least that way if we sell them, we can make some money.

So we have Rosicky and Merida up for renewal, act now is my advice because if they can wind their contracts down, they sure as eggs are eggs will do just that.

There is confusion as to how long Merida’s contract is but I think it runs out at the end of next season, plenty of time to sort it out, but if we act now it will stop the speculation and I hear that Athletico Madrid are sniffing around and promising him first team football.

Rosicky on the other hand is starting to make noises, that could be because he wants Arsene to act now, or it could be he is putting himself in the shop window, some may say he owes us, I would suggest he is the missing link this season and is looking like the player we all hoped we’d signed before his injuries.

I would sign him up, he’s 29, at Arsenal that’s the equivalent of being 64 in the real world, I still think it’s young though and he has a good 3 years in him, the question is, will he break down, give him a 2 year contract, it can’t hurt, then we can concentrate on winning the league without the constant speculation, and I think D day for him is the January transfer window.

Other than that things are progressing well, the team is looking awesome and the fringe players are improving, if we can stay injury free, we can go all the way, don’t forget last year we lost Cesc and Gallas at key times, this year we are better equipped and we still have wonderboy Nasri to return.

I’m getting excited again, come on Arsene, get the contract book out and sign those two up.

Have a great day Grovers, only nine more boring days to go.

Why not take Campbell on loan Arsene, daft or masterstroke?

October 7, 2009

So I’m thinking out loud here but Notts County legend Sol Campbell wants to train at Arsenal, well why not take him on loan? Which I believe we could do, and use him as defensive cover, he’s still a top centreback and far better cover than fish head. If we bring back Paddy and TH14 in January we’ll have a third of the Invincibles team back (Ok maybe not a third, but you get my drift).

Before you all spit your corn flakes out, think about it. Cover and experience, like the Mancs did with Larrson, it would also be like having a defensive coach, which we sorely need.

I wouldn’t turn him down, and I think the players would welcome it as well, he still has a few miles in him and I would sooner him than what we have in Silvestre and Senderos.

Other news is, shit for brains Ade-the-whore has now said he regrets stamping on RVP’s head but Arsenal slung him out because his wages were putting us in the red, he really is deluded isn’t he? Someone should send him our accounts and Hughes should explain to him he is now a Man City player, and he really should get over us. If I were a city fan, I would be getting really pissed off that he doesn’t stop talking about us.

It’s like your wife talking constantly about her ex boyfriend isn’t it! What a wanker.

Still that’s enough on him or I might start to sound like someone who can’t stop slagging off his ex boyfriend!!!

Now that Birmingham have sold out to Charlie Chan from somewhere in China, (no offence to any chinks out there, I love the Chinese) it tops up that half the Premiership is now in foreign hands, well technically so are we as over half our shares are owned by an Usbek and a sceptic, but I really hope that we don’t allow Kroenke to take over our wonderful club. Wenger may not look at their passports, but I sure as hell do.

Owning a football club is like owning a golf club, it’s an indulgance, no one makes money out of it, not real money, like a proper business does, I predict all the money that is poured into the bottomless pit of the English Premier League will disappear within a few years, I really do, then what happens?

Everytime we have a financial catastrophe or the property market crashes, people say ‘no one saw it coming’ I can people, and I’m predicting this house of cards will come crashing down around our ears before too long.

They talk about a European league, bollocks, that won’t happen, think about away games, think about what realistic chance your team would have of winning it, it won’t happen I tell you, it won’t.

I also think the time has come for someone at Arsenal to advise Cesc to stop giving interviews to the Spainish press, he needs protecting from the constant Barca questions, it’s beyond a joke now and something needs to be done.

Someone also needs to ban international football, no one gives a monkey’s anyway, it’s boring and it disrupts our flow, I’m mean what am I going to find to talk about for the next 10 days?

Don’t worry Grovers, I’ll think of something!

I have that warm fuzzy feeling back! And the new Ade song!

October 6, 2009

Well last night the second team beat the chavs 2 zip, a comfortable win that saw injury prone Joe Cole return to the side that last season beat our kids, we stuffed them and did it in style. If our kids are firing on all fours, it bodes well for the first team, because it means that we have players that can step up at last. Oh and we got to laugh out loud at Joe Cole, wanker.

The performance against fat Sam’s in bred hackers was a joy to watch, last season we struggled against the shit teams, this season is different, we do seem to be growing as a team, at last. Yes I still have my reservations about one or two people, but the forward playing players are simply unstoppable when they go towards the oppositions goal.

Even when we went down I wasn’t concerned, when Stoke went 1 up last term I though ‘blast, we’ll struggle now’ – not this time, with players like RVP, Rosicky, Arshavin, Cesc, Nikki B, Theo, Ramsey and even Diaby, we look so good.

And we still have Samir Nasri to return, boy I hope he plays Nasri and Cesc together, we’ll be unbeatable. Vermaelen has added that Keown ‘never say die’ spirit to the team, so full credit to Arsenals longest serving manager for seeing something that no one else in football saw.

And don’t say including me, because I liked him from the off, Tony Adams was the one who said he wasn’t tall enough.

Even Mannone is looking like he has been in the team for years, I wonder what he’ll do when the Spanish waiter returns, mmm, Arsene, it’s time to do a Lehmann.

I’m not even thinking about who he can bring in, in the window, but a big centre back like Sakho wouldn’t go amiss.

If the Paddy comes home rumours are true I would be delighted, he can add some bite and be a father figure to the DM’s we have coming through, though I wouldn’t mind playing a Ramsey, Merida or a Nasri in there and discarding the DM idea.

After watching our last 3 games I am beginning to beleive Arsene, so I hope I was wrong by giving you shit for not buying, I still think we need a couple of players because if something happens to Gallas or Vermaelen I think we will struggle, maybe it’s time to see what Song can do at the back, Liverpool would be a good opportunity to experiment, either that or see what Kyle Bartley can do, or even Ayling.

The whole footballing world has said we play the best football, even Souness, the sour faced Jocko said he would buy a season ticket to watch Arsenal, he forgot to add, that’s if he didn’t get into every EPL game for nothing, but never mind, at least he said it.

Liverpool have gone backwards, ManU and the chavs are treading water and the spuds will finish 12th, Everton are not good enough and last night you saw Adebayor back to his very best, ha, ha! Offside Ade! How long before the northern chavs hate him as well?

Ade-the-whore, Ade-the-whore, give him the ball and he get offside some more!

So that only leaves Villa and they are a pale shadow of last season.

So this season who knows, maybe Arsene does after all! I would be delighted to say I was wrong, but we still have a long way to go and November is on it’s way, anyway at last we can all feel a bit more positive and hope we get better and better, I think we will.

Have a great day Grovers, today I have lunch with 2 chavs, so I can crow a bit.

I had a girly tear joker moment / 4-3-3 doesn’t work…

October 5, 2009

So my trains were; as usual, completely messed up. It took me two hours to arrive at the stadium and as I walked up the stairs past Avram Grant and his ridiculously young looking girlfriend, I witnessed a looping header fly over Don Mannone’s head.

Great… I didn’t even know the line up and we were one down an Nzonzi goal! I know people will point to Mannone being off his line for that goal, but I’m not sure I’d agree. I don’t think he was that badly positioned. I think his footwork was a bit off. He was only two yards off his line… if anything, he needed to be there for the cross.

The crowd were flat and there were loads of empty spaces around the stadium. I’d love to know the science behind the lack of voice at the ground. It’s embarrassing. Singing sections are a must for next year, take note Gazidis.

It didn’t take long for us to start playing. We had a line up capable of destroying any defence in the world. Cesc went close sending a looping header onto the bar. Bad luck Cesc!

Where was a goal going to come from. Yep, you guessed it. The hottest player in the team at the moment, the Verminator. He showed us today that he likes to shoot as well as head, he picked up the ball on the edge of the box from a Cesc lay off, looked up and fired off a rasping shot into the bottom right leaving the flailing hand of Tubby Robinson for dead. Chants of…

‘Even spurs think your shit’

… reverberated round the ground.

Arsenal continued to dominate attacking play but were having trouble dealing with the powerful running of David Dunn. He went on a mazy run from a counter attack, just as you thought he’d held on to it too long, he hit a shot at Gallas and received a giant dollop of lady luck dust with the ball ricocheting of the boot of Gallas into the net. Even when that happened, you didn’t feel it was going to be ‘one of those days’.

It didn’t take long for us to level up. Cesc played in Robin with a delightful pass, he looked up and drove the ball precisely into the bottom right hand corner.

The man is on fire. Three in three for a player who some say isn’t good enough in front of goal.

Arsenal were looking for the lead and with a carbon copy of the first goal, Cesc played in Arshavin who waited for the ball to run in front of him then he swept it first time past man beast Paul Robinson. Arsenal continued to probe for a further goal, Cesc found more space in the box and went close with a header and Robinson was forced into making a few smart saves.

Cesc had 3 assists to his name already!

Arsenal went in for half time and Thierry came out to say hello! It’s like a non-stop charm offensive from team Thierry. It’s not often a player still plying his trade receives that sort of love. After watching United fans boo their players off at half time at the weekend, it was nice to see that we do have great fans and we do respect our great players.

The second half started at a similar fashion to the first… pure domination from the most exciting footballing side in the league. Arshavin, Rosicky, Cesc, RvP are a frightening combination. Not many teams are going to get away with a clean sheet against those boys. Could Blackburn get their game in shape and stop the rot?

Vermaelen made a superb challenge on David Dunn inside the box, coming out with the ball. Sam Allardyce had something to moan about in his press conference now, which made a change. Clearly Blackburn were right in the mix today.

Mannone saved superbly from a Nzonzi pile driver. That save more than made up for the earlier goal.

The Fabregas show then moved to the next level. Rosicky played the ball toward Cesc… looping the ball back over his head. … Cesc let it bounce, then fired a half volley into he top corner. He ran over to the Thierry seating area kissing the badge and pointing at the fans. He was making a statement to Europe… he was ours and he likes the tight stitching of the new badge.

Arshavin then showed some direct running, dinked it to Cesc, who laid it onto Theo… who slotted the ball with precision into the bottom corner. He ran over to the Corner Theirry was sitting in, dedicated his celebration to Thierry by replicating his trademark knee slide!

Arsenal fans sang Thierry’s name and finished it with,

‘You’ll always be a gooner!’

That was pretty emotional stuff… that is why I love football and I love the Arsenal. A great moment for me at the Emirates! It felt like Arsenal had arrived and showed the King what their intent was this season.

Nik Bendtner came on and was frustrating. His runs were timed to perfection but his finishing was frustrating… something was going to have to drop for him… and sure enough it did. Nik picked the ball up outside the box, powered past two players and unleashed his early season frustration by launching an unbelievable shot at goal, which went in off this post.

Fan-bloody-tastic.

Ratings:

Mannone: Some dodgy back peddling \ lack of box dominance led to the first goal. Weak goalkeeping, or a complete fluke? I’m going with the latter – he is owed the benefit of doubt. He made some super saves in the second half and commanded his area a little better. He has great kick, anyone else noticed that? 7

Sagna: Being blamed for the second goal. He was very high up the pitch, but on closer inspection, he was closing down Diouf. At the end of the day, we had 3 players behind the ball when they scored… and it was a fluke. Overall I thought he had a solid game and the criticism levelled at him has been unfair. Sometimes I feel we’re too quick to hunt out a scape goat, something Wrighty7 pointed out the other week. Lets not rip a player to shreds just because their form is a little off. We know he is a good player, and he’ll get back to his best soon. 6.5

Clichy: I thought the wide men got in behind him a little too easily at times but I thought he was ok going forward. Both full backs could stick £5million on their value if they learned how to cross! 6.5

Vermaelen: Out jumped for the first goal, a rare sight that is! My club level neighbour pointed out (between scoffing prawn sadwiches) that Arsene has pulled a master stroke with TV. He’s shipped out a defender lacking in form, and brought in a replacement for £5million less… with 5 less years on the clock. A cracking piece of business. He’s the deadliest attacking defender we’ve ever had and he showed it again with a brilliant early strike! He dealt with Blackburns tactics pretty well and I think he 100% got the ball for the penalty claim. 8

Gallas: After finishing the business section of the telegraph early in the second half, my club level neighbour pointed out that Gallas looked fantastic this year and his play was a joy to watch. I totally agree. Great players need to play with great players if you want to see the best. He is comfortable on and off the pitch with his Belgian friend and his performances have been equal to his bar the goals. 8

Song: I thought he had some good moments going forward and he made some impressive interceptions. My only problem with him is that he’s often behind the play when the opposition attack and he is still gaff prone. He had an ok game today, but nothing more for me. 7

Arshavin: I thought he was very sloppy in the first half and a little greedy. When things aren’t going right for him he tries to force openings which is admirable, but sometimes not too beneficial to the team. He still managed to score an impressive first touch goal and he does play the direct game we’ve lacked at times. He improved in the second half and grew with the game. Delicious is the only word I can use to describe the play he creates when he’s on fire. 8

Rosicky: The slick passing, the quick turn of pace and the ability to create space is all still there. He’s looking fitter and stronger than ever before and dare I say it, his hair looks slightly shinier than pre injury. A good game, an assist and another game on the board for a world class player we’ve sorely missed. 8

Cesc: So I feel a bit bad… someone told Cesc what we wrote about him and he reacted by getting 4 assists and a goal. Sorry Cesc, we’ll never question your loyalty again… unless we think you look like your sulking or you drop your level again! An amazing performance from one of the most sought after talents in Europe. He really does up his game when he’s playing with the Arsenal big dogs. I think we now have optimum learning facilities in place for the genuine talent coming through the ranks… how can players like Wilshere, Rambo and Vela not learn from the dazzling array of superstars we have in the attacking department? 10

Robin: I have a lot of love for RvP. I’ve heard through the grapevine that he is one of the most professional players at the club and takes his fitness and training extremely seriously. He’s starting to turn into the player we’d all hoped he would. He’s disciplined, creative and now he’s starting to finish. Well worth his new contract in my eyes. All I’d like to see is a freekick drop in sometime soon! 8

Diaby: The player everyone loves to pick holes in at the moment. Give the lad a break people! He didn’t set the world alight today, but his passing was better and I definitely saw him win a few headers out there. His game will click, he needs more time… but he has the talent to make it happen. That’s why I feel there is a lot of animosity towards him… too much talent to go to waste. Lets keep the faith and see what happens! 7

Subs:

Rambo: Ran around well*.

Update *Brilltastic according to the Grovers! 6

Theo: Don’t you forget how much pace this boy has? He’s lightening! A great finish, some nice link up play and a fitting tribute to the greatest to pull on an Arsenal shirt! 7

Bendtner: Just as you thought he’d blown his chance to impress again, out comes a wonder strike that would leave any player proud! A great goal. It’s also worth noting he went round after the game and applauded the fans… he’s a good lad. I think he’ll become a legend. 7

Is it all peachy?

If I was to critique. I would say that David Dunn waltzed through the middle of the park too easily. We were very sloppy defensively at times. Song doesn’t have a lot of discipline in the middle of the park. In the same way we lacked a defender who had passion for defending last year, this year, I think we lack a holding player who is only interested in holding (recovery pace is key here). I also think our full backs leave us exposed. It’s a tough problem though, if you have a rigid defence, what do you lose in attack? There has to be a happy medium… finding it is the challenge. Like Lee Dixon said, we need to tighten things up if we are going to sustain a challenge.

Finish it on a high!

On the positive side of things, Arsenal didn’t just beat Blackburn, we destroyed them. Blackburn weren’t bad, Arsenal were unbelievable. 4-3-3 is delivering stylish, creative, clinical, frightening football… and 3.4 goals a game. If you can’t out defend a team, why not out score them? It’s football poetry at times and the type of poetry that deserves some silverware. I read the playboy fantasy channels are trying to takeover Arsenal TV, if that’s true… I’ll have no problem renewing my subscription this year. I’m confident we can challenge for trophies, we just need to find a little bit of defensive discipline and lose the naivety at the back.

Today was a stunning day… it felt like a new dawn, the beginning of a very exciting season.

See you in the comments!

P.S. Apologies for the spelling and grammar in yesterdays post. Blogging when you’re half cut should get you a suspended sentence and six points and your blog licence! I’ll update the widgets later… any help with the goals scored would be nice!

Guess whose back in red and white?

October 4, 2009

Rumour has it that Patrick ‘Number 4‘ Vieira is making his long awaited return to the home of beautiful football this coming January. He’s being offered an 18month deal at £70k a week and as part of the deal, he’s promised to take over our troublesome centre midfield role for 6 months, bring some experiences and deliver us the silverware we so crave.

That make a hell of a lot of sense to me. I see it as an Edgar Davids type signing. Someone to come in, raise the bar with battling performances and hopefully give us that extra 5% or so Wenger thinks we need.

Apparently on the shares front it’s looking rosey for all those who believe Kroenke versus Usmanov is a straight up fight of good against evil. I’m still not too sure how that works, but having a cowboy in charge of the club certainly ticks a few of my boxes when it comes to a billionaire owner. I mean really, who else has a cowboy with a funny facial accessory making residence on their top lip?

Onto today’s game. Eduardo seems to be the only fresh injury doubt. Theo could make his long awaited return and Wenger is quite keen to stress he is no longer a kid. Well, until he hits a bad run of form… then he’ll be more than keen to tell us he is only young and we should show more patience.

I’m heading up to the ground today, I’m not really sure what to expect team wise. All I’m looking for is a devastating win. I want to see us at the races from the off and I want to see penetrative drive from us. Sometimes we start a little too lightly and allow teams the chance to build a bit of confidence. We need a performance like the Champions league game in midweek… we need to let our football do the talking and be patient. Cutting out the sloppy mistakes is paramount to our success today and I’m boldly going to predict a score of 2-0 to the men in red with Arshavin at the centre of all that is good.

Have a good on out there today kids and don’t let anyone tell you your not special.

You all are.

See you in the comments!.

Pedro Says:
October 1, 2009 at 21:26 edit

Thierry coming back? If anyone of our ex players is going to return as a manager one day… I’d put money on it being him!

Henry and Bergkamp, the dream team? Or am I dreaming?

October 2, 2009

Thierry Henry, never mind your Ian Wright, Wright, Wrights of this world, Thierry is the real legend, well him, Dennis, Keown, Adams and Bould anyway, you could pick a mixture of those blokes and ask them to manage the Arsenal, now that would be something.

Arsene knows? Pfff… more like Geoff and Pedro know!

Yep, we both predicted it… me on Thursday night, Geoff yesterday. Now the coach reckons Thierry could one day grace the recaro seats of the Emirates!

“I can see that happening,” said Wenger. “I believe at some stage the legacy here has to go to some people who have had a big influence at this Club.

“One day they will want to work, maybe not necessarily with me but working because I will have to stop eventually. Maybe it will be me working with them!”

It’s all about Thierry coming back and lifting the treble in his first season. How amazing would that be? Double amazing I say.

In other news, Arsene professors his love for Arshavin. Did you see what I did there? It wasn’t funny was it…

Anyway, Wenger was positively gushing about his Russian playmaker,

“I love Arshavin because he has things that are just down to him.

“He is an intelligent player and he looks like he is a shrewd street player because he creates something always in unexpected situations.

“He has a big challenge in front of him. He made St Petersburg win and, if he makes Arsenal win, he’ll become an all-time great.

“That’s the real challenge he faces and I am convinced he has all the potential to do it. He’s a leader and a character.

“He has something specific to him that he uses well – a low centre of gravity, great pace and tricky dribble.

“He uses all that he has in the locker in an intelligent way – and don’t forget he is a winner as well.

I feel like I’ve just opened a shoe box in Arshavin’s house and uncovered his secret love letters! Still, it’s nice to see the coach dishing out deserved praise. I think he might have given Arsh a stern talking to after his dismal early season performances. He looked a different player last week, now he needs to show consistency and desire for the rest of the season!

We take on a filthy incarnation of Bolton tomorrow, so I expect loads of anti football, loads of bad challenges and an Arsenal win. I just want to once again thank the people at ESPN for runining my Sunday. I really love early kick offs. I can’t have a proper beer, I can’t really do anything with my day afterwards and I also love missing my Sunday league match. Many thanks…

Anyway, sorry for the brief post, I might do another one later! Happy Saturday!

Henry and Bergkamp, the dream team? Or am I dreaming?

October 2, 2009

I decided to write this piece as Thierry has once again been saying he wants to come back home, he said he didn’t know what capacity it would be in, but he would take waterboy, I have a dream people, a dream I want to share with you.

Thierry Henry, never mind your Ian Wright, Wright, Wrights of this world, Thierry is the real legend, well him, Dennis, Keown, Adams and Bould anyway, you could pick a mixture of those blokes and ask them to manage the Arsenal, now that would be something.

So who would be the dream team? Steve Bould would have to be right up there because he’s already doing it, he’s like the managment equivalent of a youth team player, indoctrinated in the Wenger philosophy, so he ticks all the right boxes and I would put Keown up there with him.

I love Tony Adams, and he was a one team all his life man and that makes him a true legend, but he is very morose and I’m not sure he has what it takes to manage a football team, he has had a few goes so far and not done too well, so Tony isn’t the one for me, he also said Vermaelen wasn’t tall enough, so his talent spotting isn’t so great either.

Thierry was our top goalscorer of all time and he hasn’t stopped telling us how much he loves the Arsenal since he left, so he gets all the marks I have available. Dennis also a true legend and some say the greatest player ever to grace the hallowed turf.

Add to that the greatest footballing brain the world has ever seen and he ticks all the right boxes, well all bar one, the flying box, it’s the one thing that holds him back and it’s precisely that, that will make him Thierry’s numero dos.

Dennis would only miss out on the away games in the Champions league and he did that as a player, I’m sure Thierry could cope.

Imagine the attacking team they would have, with Steve Bould and Keown in there managing the defensive side it would be fantasy football at its very best.

Players would flock to their banner, crowds would flock to the ground, broadcasters would flock to see our every game, much as they now do with Madrid and the football they would play would be wengerball with bells on. Okay I know I abused the ‘flock’ word but I like it and it’s my post today, so you’ll have to live with it.

I think the future would be in great hands, I just hope I live long enough to see it.

If any of you out there think ex players and first jobs would be a problem, look no further than Barcelona, and Pep Guardiola.

Maybe Wenger should pension our Pat off and bring in Dennis or Thierry to sit next to him and learn the ropes for a few years.

A mouth watering prospect and one I will leave you with, have a great day Grovers, mild mannered Clark Kent returns to the big screen tomorrow.
