Lansbury on target, should we bring him back?

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Great to see young gunner Henri Lansbury ripping into Sheffield United, is he good enough to bring back? Could he play that midfield role, is he another Ramsey or another Flamini, what’s your take on it?

Wenger says he considered bringing Matty Upson back, good timing boss, just in time for the West Ham game!

I watched the Fulham game and wondered how Hangeland would have fitted in, I wouldn’t have swapped him for Vermaelen, but against a team that’s big on set pieces I would have him as an option, maybe if we are still in the mix in January, Wenger will have another look, I would, we all know Gallas won’t last the season.

I think we are playing West Ham at a good time, they keep losing and we got a toe up the arse against AK, I think we’ll win and win well, but the team needs to come out the blocks quickly because I think West Ham will.

We have a frenetic 2 weeks coming up, West Ham followed by Liverpool, followed by Spurs followed by AZ, so in theory, we could be top of the league, into the next round of the Carling Cup and qualifying in our ECL group. Wouldn’t we all be happy eh?

It seems to me we are being linked to more players now that we have ever been, I don’t get excited any more, because it so rarely happens, the last time we signed more than one big player was in that January transfer window when we got Theo, Ade and Diaby (I think) Arshavin says we need two players, I agree, just two, but I’ve said that since last season.

I have changed my mind over the keeper though, we have three young ones, that in my mind are all better than Almunia, will he play Mannone, Fabianski or will he bring back the waiter?

We’ll know tomorrow, but if he doesn’t play Almunia, the writing’s on the wall, that’s for sure.

A final word from the boss on any potential takeover, he said ‘don’t interfere’ now I admire that, but it really does show who has the safest job in football, doesn’t it!

Have a great day Grovers, tomorrow we go East. Like the Pet shop boys did.

P.S. Just incase you weren’t aware, Le Grove is now smart phone friendly… comments load super quickly so there is no reason not to blog on the road!

I like Rosicky, hope he stays, whether its on a pay as you spend time im the Medical room deal or what ever…

  2. Micky Did It 89

G8. I know what you are saying, but Overmaars, Petit, Hleb and Silv. made no impact after they left.Plus, they all wanted to go so what do you do. We all know about Anelka and his brother/agent, but he alone paid for Overmaars, Petit and Henry.Campbell lost the plot, but I agree the big one was losing Gilberto and Flamster without replacing them. I can only guess AW had much higher hopes for either Den. or Diaby.

  3. ManGoonian

I remember before Overmars left, he played like a twat in the UEFA Cup Final as he didnt wanna get himself injured before his dream move! Twat!

  4. B.B.K.

so you have changed your mind that the keepers after almoonia are good enough, prehaps you might change your mind in the near future, because they are not and the sooner we sign a better goal keeper the better off we will be

  5. ManGoonian

I am happy with mannone, fella. He is making mistakes that a rookie would. N ow, if we had to put up with Ben Foster, then I would be worried!

  6. Micky Did It 89

Also, we really took Barca to the cleaners with the sales of Anelka, Overmaars and Petit. Massive mistake not selling TH a season earlier for huge money. I will never forgive him for one thing. I was sitting front row behind Lehmann’s goal at the CL final in Paris, and watching our captain tossing up while he had not committed to the club. Unforgiveable in my book.

  7. Stu

Most players that leave us, having wanted to go, usually end up playing like shit after going.

In recent years only Pires didnt want to go really and he has been one of Villareals better players (up until recently). Henry has been successful but thats different because we got the best out of him.

  8. Gunner8

    MDI89 Anelka to RM

Was in Paris as well, but outside the ground peering through the stadium (not really the best view).

Was shocking really + Cashley and BFG should never have played IMO

  9. Micky Did It 89

I really hope Theo and Ros. shake off this sicknote thing. We could have oustanding right side options, but I think this is the one area we could be vulnerable this season. If fit, we win something. If both have another season out, we are in trouble. Jacky not ready for a full season, and Eboue is a RB.

  10. ManGoonian

We are a game in hand, we win that and we are a single solitary point away from the leaders.

Foster is pants! Rubbish, not fit to lace Almunia’s boots and Almunia is pretty average!

This notion that you need a world class keeper to win the league is an old wives tale!

There are fuck all world class keepers about!

We will win the league by scoring more goals thanh the opposition in enough games!

    Deal with them apples baby!

  11. Micky Did It 89

G8. That was a long night eh. I had train back at 6.00am, no hotel, and was split up from mates. Dont know if you remember, but they put a blackout on mobiles (anti-terror thing). Being in the front row, I also got the secong half torrential drenching. Long wet night saved by a night’s drinking with three outstanding Gooners over from Dublin. Thank God for the Black Stuff! Oh, and I was offered £1200 for my ticket before the game!!

  12. Micky Did It 89

ManG. Like the score more than them idea. I also think Chavs are the real opposition in the league and they will be badly hit during ACN. Drogba and Essien. Players away for these tournaments alsways take a while to recover. So its Champions for me.

  13. ManGoonian

I think Mannone has done well, considering his age and lack of 1st team experience. Foster is a few years older, had a full season on loan, at, erm… Watford I think, yet he is making mistakes that would have him crucified by people on here, if he was a Gooner!

  14. ManGoonian

    Mickey DI89;

Yeah, true and they have been lookin shite at set pieces too. They have conceeded the most from set pieces so far this season. We werent even in the top 10 of that shit list!

  15. Rohan

I heard we’re in for Eden Hazard this January transfer window. I might even trade him for Walcott. Theo is an excellent bargaining chip – anyone else up for a 15mill+walcott bid for torres next summer when liverpool are in the shit and fail to qualify for Europe :D

I love Walcott ot bits but unfortunately I don’t think he’ll make it… Hope I’m wrong though

  16. ManGoonian

Theo will be a top player for us for years, the new system is ideal for him, his latest injury thankjs to that cunt mcLeish and his Fat Sam-alike tactics won’t hold him back for too long.

  17. Micky Did It 89

Yeah, heard about Hazard as well. AW knows we are v. brittle right side. Thing is, if Theo and Ros have injury season, no-one is going to pay much. If they don’t, we are better off keeping as I think they will both win us games.
Oh well, the missus has buggered off to in-laws in Essex with the children for four days, leaving me here in the dark west country all alone. Better be off and start making the most of it. Catch you another day, if I’m still alive.
1-0 tomorrow to the good guys.
    Goon to the Moon!

  18. Micky Did It 89

Still here. Final coffee. Hazard (sp. wrong I think) is a Belgian wide guy. Plays for Lille I think and was young player of the year. I think. That sounds like I know what I’m on about!

  19. Rohan

Eden Hazard is absolutely brilliant from what I’ve seen of him. Probably among the best youngsters in the world right now.. Similar to a certain c.ronaldo in many respects. I’ve been calling for him to join for a year and a half now ….

  20. Rohan

Apart from Flamini and maybe Diarra, you can’t argue too much with Wenger letting players leave. ( maybe Bobby.P too if you want )
The problem has been that he hasnt replaced them adequately enough.

  21. Gunner8

    MDI89

I when they scored the second I headed back not wqanting to be swarmed by flare throwing catalans, I was staying with my (now) sister in law who had never met me b4 that day and picked me up outside a kebab shop halfway through my second bottle of plonk!

  22. Gunner8

I had 1000 Euro in my pocket, someone offered me the tix for 1100 and I showed him my empty wallet but the fucker wouldn’t take 1,000!

  23. Ruler

Walcott will make it bro, when he first came I wasn’t sure, but he had a major improvment last season and looked a threat in most of the games he played and this season he looks fantastic too, I think he will be one of the worlds best players, similar to a C Ronaldo for us, maybe not quite as spectacular but a constant danger, he can tear teams apart with his natural ability and what he’s constantly learning.

  24. Ruler

Diaby has played very well in the last few games, especially the last one, he worked so hard and won A LOT of tackles, more than anyone on the pitch, was making offensive runs and overall had a excellent game, he could of done better with the header at the end but I think that was his only error of the whole game, he needs to keep it up to win people over though, on the work rate side specifically or he will deserve the critisim he recieves, but if he keeps up those kind of performances and strives to improve further hopefully he will win people over, there’s no reaosn he can’t be a potential starter for Arsenal, he just has to kep on the right track and work hard to further improve, I like Denilson overall, seems like a good person and has a lot of potential but I think Diaby should continue to play even when he comes back, his strength offensivly and defensivly can add something extra to the team.

  25. Ruler

What do people think’s gonna happen in the Man U v Liverpool match tommorrow? I’m hoping Man U will drop points.

  26. Ruler

They held on, that’s good, Villa dropped points today aswel, things are turning out well for us, we have to take advantage of these results though so we gain an advtange on the top 4 rivals and also stay in contention for the title, and yeah I hope Liverpool win… would be good for us, if Chelsea don’t win we will go top if we do won’t we?

  27. Eastside Gooner

I would give Simpson a run in the first team. He seems like he knows where the goal is like all good strikers. He also would provide competition to Vela and/or Watt. When Vela has been in the first team at the back end of last season and so far this season I have been unimpressed with his performances. His work rate, his passing, and his ability to link play/hold the ball up, has all been poor. Against AZ last week he was rubbish and one of the main reason why we conceded in the final minute. He couldn’t hold the ball or bring anyone else into play and build the attack. He is a specialist, a one on one take on artist. I am not sure where he fits in with the first team and if he is good enough. I thought he would have kicked on from his Carling Cup performances and he certainly hasn’t.
Anyone else have these sort of thoughts?

  28. Emperor Gooner

spuds lost , villa drew , lansbury looks amazing ( height , intelligence , arsenal touch ) , pool are winning tomorrow i’ve no doubt, nasri n tomas are gonna b fit again , chavs might just drop points…now all that stands between me and an orgasmic week ahead is OUR game..we really got to win this one and i’m sure we will..then consider ourselves top of the table..oh yeah!!!to be a goooooooooonnnneeerrr!!!!!!!

  29. tomstoned

    Afternoon All..

Thx for the post Geoff…great day ..and great results so far…

and Stu if you cant see the difference between Song and flamoney..you far worse off than i presumed mate ;) then you actually have to start at the bottom..what makes a player good..viel gluck mate ;) hehe

seems to me this early in the season…the big four is more like truning out to be the big three..than anything else..

    tom

  30. goonermichael

been away for a bit. My last comment was about the pikeys getting a draw and they’ve lost. could be a good weekend for us. top four my arse

  31. tomstoned

    Goonermichael..

correct mate..i even red a statement from hughes that he was hoping for any of the big teams to loose..now that was a positive and great statement from a manager..;) what a tosser…..spuds arent in it at all…and villa..no feckin way…everton..not ..mancity ..nope an l’pool not this year..so its down to the big Three…:)

    tom

  32. Stu

Tom, i can see the difference. One played for us for 4 years and was amazing in his final season and left. The other is a kid who has been here for about 4 years too, not all in the team and has been playing reasonably well for the last few months but you seem to think he is the best DM in history.

Maybe you need your head checked.

  33. Stu

Funny you’d say that MG. Im actually in the middle of clearing out a room. Not mine tho…its the front room. Preparing for some remodelling…or thats the plan at least.

And Song is just ok…for now.

  34. Rohan

If Song had come in just this season, people would be raving about him.. I think past performances are clouding some’s judgement… I’m not saying he is the finished product but you got to give credit where it is due and say that he seems willing to learn from his mistakes and has certainly improved immensely recently… you start to see why Wenger persisted with him.. If he continues like this at this rate of improvement, we’ll have something special on our hands…

  35. Rohan

I’m pretty sure we’ll be in the Top 2. As long as we challenge until the last few games, I’ll be satisfied. A great cup run or 2 is also a must… That’s hardly too much to ask for is it…

  36. Big Raddy

    Love that Spuds result.

They will drop another 3 points next week then it will be their usual 8th place finish. Just below Sunderland.

  37. ManGoonian

Hmmm, whose opinion to take more seriously?

A load of current and ex-footballers, or a few random loons on an Arsenal blog…Its a tough one for sure…

  38. Nishanth

MG-Song has imrpoved a lot.But then against he was that bad earlier on.But its too early to say that he is going to be a world beater.

  39. SharkeySure

    Rohan 18.03 !!!

My favourite teenager does it again….

“If Song had come in just this season, people would be raving about him.. ”

    Rohan you’re a genius.

Opinions set in concrete cannot be changed, you only have to read the rabid comments of Jaguar about Diaby to see that.

Ruler posts a very good analysis of Diaby’s recent form, and we’ll be here a very long time waiting for Jaguar to post his ‘considered response’.

    Jaguar talking shit about Diaby….. Y..A..W..N !!!!!

  40. gooner786

    Evening,

I hope Blackburn get beat by 10 nil and allardyce gets the sack.

I have never liked him since his Bolton days.

  41. SharkeySure

No offence Stu…but you’re so WRONG about Song.

Go analyse Pedro’s marks for Song game by game so far this season.

Its pretty poor Arse fans being so one eyed about a player who overall has been (along with Vermaelen) our most consistent player this season.

I just don’t know what else some of you are looking for from him. Tackles, passing, heading, shielding, turning, dribbling….

Perhaps he needs to do all of the above but with Yaya’s shirt on….

  42. Rohan

Hey Sharkey! Agree with all you said…
I think Song was made to be a scapegoat last season as a result of all the frustration.. Granted he wasnt that great but surely the fact that he was a mainstay in a top 4 team counts for something…
Hence statements along the lines of him being one of the worst DM’s in the league are a bit off imo… I saw Melo play twice last month and I honestly wasnt impressed ( Similar in the Confed Cup ).. Mascherano has been shit this season.. Yaya hasnt been great either… Essien isnt at his best…. Cana for all his
tackling is a shit passer and wouldnt fit in our team.

I’m not trying to say that Song is the best thing since sliced bread but he definitely isnt a weak link in our team and has been one of our more consistent performers in the recent past..

  43. Rohan

Diaby has been OK.. he’s had a few good games, one or two great ones but a couple really poor ones…
Note that in the United game, were it not for the own goal he was arguably MOM…
Anyway he won’t start when Nasri, Rosicky and Walcott are all fit..

  44. leon

i realy feel that players like merida landsbury evon couquin should be going out on loan gain experience, right now merida is either on the bench or play in the reserves were is he was on loan at chamionship or prem team he would playing more often and gaining much more rexperience i garantee that the onlt time you will see him is if he play maybe last 5 min of a game if he is lucky or he will have to wait for carling cup and that goes the smae landsbury,

as far song goes he has been the most consistant player for arsenal since totenham game last season in my view he will be better player than barry if not now he soon will be.i can only go by what i see fron from i have seen from song his passes go astray at times however his work rate his tackling and tracking more makeup for that.and at 21-22 he is only going get better, delinson is another improving player and is getting there too

  45. Rohan

I like Simpson, just don’t think he’ll be an arsenal-type player… doesnt seem to be intelligent enough to have all the passing/movement… all worked out. I do think he’ll succeed at a mid-table club though..
A notable point is that most of the current generation of youth team players are going to make it as top flight footballers regardless of whether at Arsenal or not. We, both as a club and as fans, can be extremely proud of that.

  46. ManGoonian

    Nish;

I think Diaby has been slowly getting better. He is adding a defensive side to his game, to go with the attack minded shit he posseses. He has a way to go, but is doing OK.

The fact we have won our last 5 league games, is that not a positive step?

He did well vs Brum too.

  47. Rohan

Diaby is an excellent option to have from the bench.. He would really offer us a different dimension should we need it…

  48. Nishanth

MG-Diaby has great moments in a match.Thats pretty much.He rarely has an amazing 90 minutes.Flashes of brilliance here and there.Diaby gives the ball away far too much. The thing that irritates me the most about diaby is that he just doesn’t learn from his mistakes.

  49. Rohan

I dunno, I can see a definite improvement in his ball-keeping and passing and his defensive work… He doesnt seem to be giving the ball away now half as much as he did last season…
I agree, Diaby is not an ideal starter but he’s hardly first choice is he when Nasri/Rosicky are fit…

  50. luke

Diaby really needs to work on defensive set plays! He almost did it again against Alkmaar. Im still recovering from his own goal at Utd.

  51. Nishanth

His tracking back is not that great either.Really can’t understand why wenger didn’t give ramsey a chance. Now that nasri is back i can’t see him getting many chances

  52. luke

Nish, I hope so. I fear that Nasri will be used as a forward instead of midfielder and Diaby/Denilson will continue to start…

  53. Nishanth

He played in the midfield for reserves.Inspite of randall playing. They made randall play ahead.I think he will play next to cesc and song

  54. ManGoonian

    Nish;

You seem to have a few blind spots there! Diaby has played well of late. Saying he nees to be brilliant for 90 minutes is a bit like saying RvP needs to swcore 5 goals every game.

  55. leon

i like simpson o realy do i just do think is type of player that will fit in the team he does seam posses the passing and movement that we have to have he very good player though and has great future ahead of him very much dragba type player just not as good yet.

anyone who thinks diaby will sell diaby is deluding themselves not going happen.it is pretty clear that wenger his groom ing to dm type role but be a free role he track back when needed and will go forward, in 433 formation no dought he will be fighting his place with rasri and rambo and maybe risicky although i see risicky further up the pitch.but i dont think he will be warming bench i think wenger be rotating quite often particualy when they have to play so many games

  56. Nishanth

Not really MG.Cesc had a great game against blackburn. But then in the previous match against olympiacos as well he was really impressive.Same can be said about rosicky.Diaby makes the same mistakes every game.Always taking too many touches. Now that nasri is back it doesn’t really matter

  57. ManGoonian

I think Cesc has been pretty poor till a couple of games ago. But no one is suggesting he is shi9te, or needs to be sold.

Looks as if you do not want to see any improvements and still cling to the impression that all Diaby is is a flash of brilliance once every 10 games and shite the rest, whereas I have seen some steady development and him slowly playing better, more consistently/

I am not suggesting he is a fantastic world beater, but I will give him his due. He was out the door as far as I was concerned…

Feel the love, let out the hate, you’ll feel a shit load better fella! :D

  58. ManGoonian

He has played poor, but you dont see that, coz its Cesc… By your measurement, ie playing fantastic for 90 minutes, he has had some ropey performances, although he has inevitably papered over those performances with a killer pass, or a goal.

    You know, the obvious shit…

    But this is boring.

  59. Nishanth

Would you like to mention those games?Apart from the game against city and liege away and upto an extenat fulham he has played really well. And in each of these games i just mentioned he had an assist

  60. Nishanth

MG-There is a lot of difference between cesc not having a great game and diaby. We expect a bit too much from him every single match. He could have played better in those match but was still good enough

  61. leon

please people lets protend that cesc has been very best player so this season he has been player exceptionaly well the last 3 games bur before that he has been playing very average and cesc had a few bad games however the difference is he tends to have alot less bad games and he doe s not give the ball away as much he seams to have matured alot quicker than diaby

  62. ManGoonian

    Nish;

Me ol china plate, we are getting lost in this Cesc thang, when all I am trying to do, is make you into a well rounded individual!

Diaby has played reasonably well in the majority of his games this season, thus far… Shall we leave it there, or do you really wanna see my family jewels?
