Le Grove finally sells out to ADVERTISING! / Oh no David Dein didn’t?

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Good morning Grovers! Winter has finally crashed in with an unwelcome bang, lashings of rain, a sharp breeze and loads of gloominess to make getting up for work that little bit harder! Oh the joys of living in the UK.

Nothing like a £4.99 England match against the Ukraine to help you forget all your worries, eh? That’s terrific. During an international week, I can’t even bore myself to sleep by heading down the pub to watch the game with the swathes of ‘Ingerlaaaaand’ supporters who rear their ugly faces for the once every 3 month occasion. I wonder how many viewers Bet365 will miss out on by streaming the match at home? I wonder if the FA’s sponsor; EON, realise their ‘Get down the pub to watch football because it’s greener’ advert now looks a little stupid. Millions of power draining PC’s will be purring tonight because the FA sold out the environment as well as the fans!

Referring to the headline, yes, we’ve sold out… but only to a charity! Oh my, I bet I had a few of the conspiracy theorists a little damp when they clicked on this morning!

Basically this is a message for anyone who feels guilty about not buying the Gooner Review CD I so eloquently critiqued a couple of months ago. Their worldwide Première is this coming Tuesday and tickets are only £7 online! I believe Paul Kay is going to be there, some ex players and a few others I dare not mention! Oh, and I’ll be there as well… I only communicate via the blog, so if you see me and you want to chat, make sure you have an iPhone or blackberry to hand…

Here are the details:

The Gooner Review 08-09 Premiere Screening -

Hopefully we’ll see a few of you there, the Gooner review was excellent, so it won’t be a wasted journey… plus, you’ll have done your mandatory bit for Charity this year and you’ll have had a crack at the same time.

In other news, apparently David Dein secured first refusal for Cesc with Barcelona way back when. I don’t really get this first refusal malarkey, just like I don’t get the pre-contract agreements players supposedly sign when they’re under contract. I think the Barca propaganda machine is gearing up for a year of unsettling behaviour. If the other blogs liked us, I’d suggest we all run intermittent stories about Barcelona players all year… get our own back and see if we can cause trouble… shame we’re in a gang of our own!

Finally, I saw an interview on another website for a book. Just so you know, the PR agency for this book contacted me to ask whether I’d publicise it for free, to which I declined but I did say I’d do it if I had the chance to interview the authors. Well, it looks like the authors shied away… maybe it was the run in with Geoff one of them had a few years back over an article on the onlineGooner, maybe it was because one of the authors is a half spud… maybe it’s because they heard Le Grove is a massive supporter of cornflakes, not porridge or muesli (read here). We’ll never know Grovers, we’ll never know!

Anyway, I’m off for a bowl of Kellogg’s finest, have a rip roaring Saturday, please resist the meds and vodka cupboard… normal football will resume soon!

FIFA appointed refs doing their bit to keep on the FIFA list by helping the usual suspects, Jesus is there a more corrupt organisation outside of the Mafia than FIFA?

  2. zeus

Everyone speaking about Puyol going out of favour, he looks pretty good to me. I think this is more about Barca wanting him to sign for an amount he does not want to sign for and they are trying to pressure him.

  3. Maciek

Guys relax. He has said, that he don’t like English national team, and You tell him to f**k off? I don’t like English national tam aswell, so will You ban me?
It’s only football. We are not talking about Arsenal.

  4. Bozin

@zeus I was thinking the same about Puyol, he is a quality defender and he is a Barca boy forever. It’s just shameful how they treat their players, the ones who have showed they are loyal. I guess it’s how a club of Barcas’ stature manages in order to maintain at the very top. I still think Puyol can deliver at the big stage, and if he can’t for some fixture, then bring someone else instead.

  5. zeus

I think the Englishmen on this site need to realize that non-Englishmen, like my self, can’t distinguish English players based on club vs country. Arsenal only have 1 englishman in the NT ie Theo Walcott. Everyone else are CUNTS. Rooney, COle, Terry et al. On every other occasion Englishmen on here call them cunts as well, but they make up your NT so we understand your plight in having to put aside your true feelings. Non englishmen does not have this problem.

  6. dennisdamenace

I fucking loathe the Engerland setup, especially all the cunts that play for them (except TW14)and i’m English through and through……..

  7. dennisdamenace

    zeus – Seriously? I couldn’t give a flying fuck fella…..

Given a straight choice between England winning The World Cup or Arsenal winning the Champions League, me, my brother, most of my mates would all without hesitation go for Arsenal EVERY time…..

  8. chozzer

    Internationals just mean gooner watch.
Bendy at 7 versus the Swedes.

Completely agree DDM. Arsenal winning the Carling Cup better than England winning World Cup for me.

  9. zeus

    Dzeko scores again.

As far as I’m concerned I take pleasure in watching England lose. What a delight to not having to see them at the Euros. Seeing John Terry cry is a pleasurable experience indeed. Its been like this for so long that nothing could change me now. England FTL

  10. KM in WALES

The highlights should be interesting.Russia into the play-offs now.Hope they go thru.England in a bit of a pickle :)

  11. patthegooner

I am English, and I lost interest in the National Team after Euro 96.

Poor Management, boring football, and players who I simply can’t stand have turned me right off watching.

And I am gutted by that, I used to love watching my National Team.

As for today, I did not even realise what time they kicked off.

I am pleased they have made it the World Cup though, and will watch, but I am not going to be burning down any Portuguese or German Restaurants after they predictibly knock us out in the Qtr Finals.

  12. ardentgooner

the only reason i hate eng NT is cuz they know they are shit but once they win a couple of games they start thinking like No.1 …and ofcors having Rooney,John terry and Cole in the team is another reason i hate them….Give guys like Bent and Carlton Cole a chance… and i’d stil think of cheering them

  13. dennisdamenace

The whole celebrity social structure of our chav country has slowly turned me off of the NT…..

I gt really up for the Rugby, Crickey etc etc, but those cunts that play for the English footie team turn my stomach.

I can’t seriously hate them for 99.99% of the time, but then cheer them on just because they pull on the Three Lions, the sooner this group of self-serving twats are replaced by the next generation the better……

  14. KM in WALES

Dzeko is a serial scorer. He is a shearer type striker? I just get the feeling that he’d fit in better at Chelsea/ManU than at Arsenal.Or is it just me?

  15. yon

ALEX SONG was amazing for Cameroun. HE almost fought ADE after a nasty challenge. He is probably the most technically gifted dm.

  16. zeus

    @ dennisdamenace
That’s just the thing. I can’t understand how people distinguish between club and country. So today Rooney is one of the best but come next Saturday he is an overrated cunt.

  17. KM in WALES

ArdentGOONER – Bang on m8! Agree with u 100% abt England. YON – also agree with u m8,i’v said that as well this week.his skill is an asset which other DMs would kill for.

  18. Geoff

Zues, stick with overrated but add fat, ugly granny shagging.

So that should be, fat overrated, ugly granny shagging, cunt. That should do it.

  19. patthegooner

I would love to see how many people actually paid for the official stream today.

I will be surprised if they broke even on buying the rights to the game in the 1st place.

  20. Geoff

Dennis I totally agree, I just can’t watch them, add that tosser Beckham and I can’t wait for Theo, Gibbs and Wilshere to step up. Maybe by the world cup, who knows?

  21. marzouca

so maybe I am feeling a bit optimistic, but Senderos and Vermaelen and gallas in a team and we may have the highest scoring defense in football.

  22. Ja_Gunner

I am upset England lost…because of the situation Croatia is now in….I wanted Eduardo to go to the World cup….but it doesnt look like its gonna happen…maybe he can go to the 2014 World cup back in his homeland….

  23. dennisdamenace

By the way, have any of you spent a whole evening drinking draught Peroni??

I did last night, and i’ve just about recovered from the hangover from hell….

  24. Geoff

Dennis mate I’m good and yes, I have spent many an evening drinking draught Peroni, good fun from what I can remember!

  25. zeus

    @ chozzer
Christ! And he is the Golden boy of English football, He is the role model. Here’s to Walcott holding steady with his girl (even though living together with her at 20 is WAY too young) and Wilshere and Gibbsy not getting carried away. (though I read that Gibbs was dating some 25 yo skank)

  26. Ja_Gunner

Hopefully Craotia beats Kazakstan and Ukraine draws with Andorra….but Andorra is utter crap..so it probably wont happen….

I dont think countries like Faroe Islands and Andorra should be competing…its a total walk over…..

The Faroe Islands should try to join up with Iceland or Scotland….and Andorra should try to join up with Spain….even though at this time none of Andorra’s players would make the Spain team…

  27. Ja_Gunner

Cyprus is beating Bulgaria….Bulgaria are very poor then….

And cmon Romania……beat Serbia..I want France to go through automatically so we wont lose more players for the playoffs in november, we will already lose Arshavin……

So cmon Romania beat Serbia please….and if Serbis go the playoffs atleast Manure will lose Vidic..

  28. paul

I dont particularly like some of the England players, but they are my country. So if you say something against them i will tell you to fuck off,if you dont like it you can still fuck off.

  29. Ja_Gunner

Guys its actually better if Sweden wins this game….because if they do then it will be

    Denmark 18
    Sweden 18

Then if both win their final matches…then Portugal is out for sure….because Portugal is on 13 now so the max they can get is 19….

Anyway I hope Hungary beat Portugal in any case…..or a draw is good enough to eliminate Ronaldo and company..

  30. yon

well Paul…. Fuck the English national team and fuck off if you don’t like it. You guys are ridiculously overrated, no technique, no vision, no movement. A bunch of overpaid idiots.

I’m American and eventhough we aren’t a Brazil or an Arsenal when we play football.. we at least show some heart and desire.

  31. zeus

    @ Paul

Who do you like in the English team? I cant imagine one besides Walcott. I understand your stance on your country though. To every man his own opinion.

  32. zeus

Yon what are you smoking? Wilshere, Vision….lol. It says a lot though that a player similar to Wilshere in Scholes was frozen out of the team in favour of the long ball direct route style of play. Wilshere is the young great hope but I doubt he will feature.

I don’t think England has improved that much under Capello. They are better defensively surely but as a attacking unit they leave a lot to be desired.

  33. David

Sweeden are clearly the better team….

I wonder where all the whinning went about Bendy playing in the CF position up top by himself? hmmm. The Danish coach mustve realized he’s shite there as well.

  34. Bozin

I disagree David! I will just point you to this summers Confederation Cup and USA – Spain! I am no English or American, but they played truly with heart and desire.

  35. David

IF you mean parking the bus and only playing negative football/counter attack is playing with Heart and Desire then you dont know much about footy do you?

I was just waiting for a fucker to tell me about USA vs Spain match.

I guessed they lost to Brazil with Heart and Desire as well.

  36. Bozin

Fuck you too man! You don’t have to get nasty if someone doesn’t share your opinion. They did outplay the Spanish side on the night and 2-0 deservedly.

If they beat Spain it doesn’t mean they should beat every other team out there! They are poorer side, yes, but they had a great match!

  37. David

I dont love England but to compare the American Team to the English team is insulting.

“no technique, no vision, no movement”

    And the American team do?????

    Shockingly Idiotic Comment that.

  38. Pat

heart and desire mean fuck all David? Thats how Barca won the treble, more effort and more heart. It was the same team as the previous year.

  39. zeus

I knew that was the reason David. I was just thinking if Bozin made his comparison was with Argie, Spain or Brazil your response wouldn’t have been so nasty.

  40. Pat

David, it was Puyol-Marquez was the majority of the season with Pique playing more towards the end.

Alves was and is a liability. There is a reason Maicon starts ahead of him all the time for Brazil.

Henry played the season before as well, doesn’t matter how fit he was. He played so he must have been fit enough.

Busquets wasn’t a starter and started playing a bit past mid season.

Yes, it was heart and desire. liverpool wouldn’t win the CL in Istanbul if that wasn’t the case.

We have been complaining about Arsenal not showing any heart for a long time now.

England won’t do shit at the world cup, and thats a fact. They’re not part of the elite

  41. David

    Pat you wasted your time.

Read the comments above…Some idiot said that while a team didnt have

“no technique, no vision, no movement”

At least they have Heart and Desire.

SO you tell me where Barca with “no technique, no vision, no movement”

    and just Heart and Desire?

  42. zeus

@ David – really? A little surprising then that your response to what was an American compliment was so agitated. But at least you’re honest about it.

  43. Pat

Not just David, i never said that. You can’t win trophies without it though.

Obviously you need the skill set, but what sets you apart from others with equal skill sets is the heart and desire, imo.

  44. David

    Henry wasnt fit.

Deco was an integral part of the team.

    So was Zamborotta.

Millito played over 30 games even with Alves

So you see it wasnt the same team.

BTW…Bendy has fucked up the last to chances for Denmark.

  45. chozzer

    He said
“…. Fuck the English national team……You guys are ridiculously overrated, no technique, no vision, no movement. A bunch of overpaid idiots.

I’m American and eventhough we aren’t a Brazil or an Arsenal when we play football.. we at least show some heart and desire.”

Not quite your hysterical misinterpretation, is it?

  46. Pat

You need some players with heart and desire. Thats more what i meant to say. Flamini was one of our biggest losses in recent years. Did we miss his skill set? Not at all.

  47. chozzer

I think he was trying to say that England don’t play with heart and desire, that’s all.

You moved it to “SO you tell me where Barca (would be) with “no technique, no vision, no movement” and just Heart and Desire?”

If you can’t see the jump.

  48. Ja_Gunner

Well it seems like France will have to play off then…Serbia leading Romania by 2…….

    At least France is winning

  49. yon

Just finshed watching Denmark vs Sweeden (the Danes won 1-0). BENDTNER has amazing techinical abilities. Its funny because I’ve seen Song, Cesc and Bendtner play today and the one thing they all have in common is that they are amazing with the ball at their feet. Bendtner was played on the wings but he was great.

  50. Ja_Gunner

That 20 year old Sissoko kid is on the bench over Diaby lol….

France have Ribery, Gourcuff and Nasri all out injured it seems….

  51. David

That wasnt all he was trying to say Chozzer

He was clearly also saying that England have “no technique, no vision, no movement” in addition to having no heart and desire!

  52. David

Well with the latest Bendy was fantastic on the wings commment its quite clear he doesnt know wtf he’s talking about.

    So sleeping dogs….

  53. ardentgooner

i didnt want Denmark to win tonite..a draw wud have been great and wud have made Portugal’s chance of qualifying almost nil!

  54. zeus

He did not leave in tears.lol He was actually being a cunt and trying to play thru the injury. Perez would’ve walked on water and ripped his ball off if the coaching staff allowed him to do so.

Even if Hazard comes, who does he displace?

  55. Pat

Fucking Denmark. Could have gone through with a tie and made Portugal suffer. Still, Portugal won’t make it through the play off system. Russia or France will destroy them

  56. Ja_Gunner

But Pat I think Portugal maybe one of the seeded teams….so they probably wont play Russia or France….

I hope they play Bosnia or Ukraine, I think those 2 can beat them…

  57. Ja_Gunner

If Portugal end up playing Norway, Slovenia or Greece for example…then I think Portugal will go to the World Cup….but if they play Ukraine, Bosnia etc….they will not..

  58. Ja_Gunner

And they wont play Norway…because Norway is the worst 2nd place finisher….

So if Portugal get seeded…they will more than likely
    Greece/Isreal
    Slovenia/Czech republic
    Bosnia
    Ukraine/Crotia
    Ireland

I am not sure how the seedings go….but if they are seeded they definitely wont play France or russia

  59. zeus

Matters not either way. If Portugal win the WC i would never watch a game of football again. They have good build up play but no strikers. Remember in Germany they were the team that made it to the semi finals that only scored about 3 or 4 goals. Same will happen again, plus I would rather see Ronaldo cry at the tournie upon his exit from it.

  60. Ja_Gunner

Yeah zeus out of all the possibilities…..I hope Portugal face

    1. Ukraine/Crotia
    2. Bosnia
    3. Ireland

Those teams can beat Portugal….I am not sure about

    Czech Republic(current form)
    Slovenia
    Greece
    Israel

  61. Ja_Gunner

Since Russia cannot win the group anymore…I hope Hiddink gives Arshavin a rest…..so that he comes back fit and ready to go for Saturday.

In fact I hope Andrei asks this of Hiddink..its pointless to play him and other stars since they no chance of winning the group.

Because the final result does not matter much, he should use the bench against Azerbaijan…

  62. Jaguar

Hiddink would gleefully reply,”Son,I am not the Arsenal coach,I’m paid to win matches for Russia, not to conduct my experiments during matches,to satisfy my fantasies. So stop whining”

  63. Ja_Gunner

Yeah Jaguar…but whats the point of playing your stars when there is no chance of winning the group…do you play them risking seriuos injuries…and thus possibly losing them for the playoffs?

If I were a coach I would give my fringe players as start to see if they are worthy of the playoffs….

Zeus good to meet another yardie on here…….

  64. zeus

Yeah might as well see who is gonna fit in the squad. If Argentina loses this game Maradona seriously would have to live in exile.
