Le Grove finally sells out to ADVERTISING! / Oh no David Dein didn’t?

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Good morning Grovers! Winter has finally crashed in with an unwelcome bang, lashings of rain, a sharp breeze and loads of gloominess to make getting up for work that little bit harder! Oh the joys of living in the UK.

Nothing like a £4.99 England match against the Ukraine to help you forget all your worries, eh? That’s terrific. During an international week, I can’t even bore myself to sleep by heading down the pub to watch the game with the swathes of ‘Ingerlaaaaand’ supporters who rear their ugly faces for the once every 3 month occasion. I wonder how many viewers Bet365 will miss out on by streaming the match at home? I wonder if the FA’s sponsor; EON, realise their ‘Get down the pub to watch football because it’s greener’ advert now looks a little stupid. Millions of power draining PC’s will be purring tonight because the FA sold out the environment as well as the fans!

Referring to the headline, yes, we’ve sold out… but only to a charity! Oh my, I bet I had a few of the conspiracy theorists a little damp when they clicked on this morning!

Basically this is a message for anyone who feels guilty about not buying the Gooner Review CD I so eloquently critiqued a couple of months ago. Their worldwide Première is this coming Tuesday and tickets are only £7 online! I believe Paul Kay is going to be there, some ex players and a few others I dare not mention! Oh, and I’ll be there as well… I only communicate via the blog, so if you see me and you want to chat, make sure you have an iPhone or blackberry to hand…

Here are the details:

The Gooner Review 08-09 Premiere Screening -

100% of ticket sales from this screening will go to Bob Wilson’s charity The Willow Foundation and the Phoenix Cinema Centenary Restoration Project

The Phoenix Cinema, East Finchley
Tuesday 13th October 2009: 9-11pm
Tickets £10 / £7 concessions (Limited tickets available)

Tickets can be purchased from the link below or you can buy them from the cinema’s box office on the night: TICKETS

Introduced by Paul Kaye, the screening will be attended by the fans, former players and celebrities who featured in the film, as well as a limited number of tickets for the general public…What’s better than a cinema full of Gooners!

Copies and signed copies of the film by Bob Wilson, and signed copies of Peter Marinello’s book Fallen Idle, will be available to purchase throughout the night.

FREE CAP WITH EVERY TICKET SOLD

PLUS everyone attending the screening will have a chance in winning a Gooner Review cap and book both signed by Bob Wilson!

Hopefully we’ll see a few of you there, the Gooner review was excellent, so it won’t be a wasted journey… plus, you’ll have done your mandatory bit for Charity this year and you’ll have had a crack at the same time.

In other news, apparently David Dein secured first refusal for Cesc with Barcelona way back when. I don’t really get this first refusal malarkey, just like I don’t get the pre-contract agreements players supposedly sign when they’re under contract. I think the Barca propaganda machine is gearing up for a year of unsettling behaviour. If the other blogs liked us, I’d suggest we all run intermittent stories about Barcelona players all year… get our own back and see if we can cause trouble… shame we’re in a gang of our own!

Finally, I saw an interview on another website for a book. Just so you know, the PR agency for this book contacted me to ask whether I’d publicise it for free, to which I declined but I did say I’d do it if I had the chance to interview the authors. Well, it looks like the authors shied away… maybe it was the run in with Geoff one of them had a few years back over an article on the onlineGooner, maybe it was because one of the authors is a half spud… maybe it’s because they heard Le Grove is a massive supporter of cornflakes, not porridge or muesli (read here). We’ll never know Grovers, we’ll never know!

Anyway, I’m off for a bowl of Kellogg’s finest, have a rip roaring Saturday, please resist the meds and vodka cupboard… normal football will resume soon!

I think all the South American scores should stay how they are…..it would make for wonderful do or die games on wednesday…..as it stands now

    4. Ecuador………….24 points
    5. Argentina………. 23
    6. Uraguay………….22
    7. Venezuela………..22
    8. Columbia…………20

All these teams are fighting for 2 spots….one of them being a playoff spot…

What a show down for Wednesday if this holds….

Argi only needs to avoid defeat @ Urugauy to qualify. Even if they lose then they need Chile to beat Ecuador and they are in the playoffs. Venezuela out of contention.

If the English squad gets into the final of south Africa you all cant tell me you wouldn’t want them to do well , (if your English )

i object to a yank coming on here and saying on a CO.UK site that England sucks !

Theo is in the setup and will be the next star , jack wont be too far away if wenger ever lets him play , which is the reason i think he isnt letting jack play !

I hate the Team USA also ! full of EPL rejects but i am not gloating about that !

    FUCKERS !

respect where you play , dont shit on the front lawn , but what else can you expect from colonial rejects !

  5. Mayank

Ethan firtly it’s a co.uk site not .en, so yes people can very much come on and say England suck. Even if it was .en people could still say it as much as people can say Arsenal/Wenger/Song suck on an Arsenal blog… It’s called personal liking and it’s called having an opinion… Nationalism went out of flavour a long time ago…

    mayank

judging by your name i expected it from you .
also it was not so long ago you had a go at me for slagging off americans too !

only difference is i dont rock up to an american website and say i hate all you cunts !

I DO ! , but i just dont bother going there to begin with !

and if you believe in freedom of speech then you shouldnt be offended !

    :)

  7. Mayank

Well done on judging me by my name, job nicely done there…
I don’t remember the American tiff if we ever had one but it seems like you’re carrying a chip on your shoulder. As for using freedom of speech as a blanket excuse for bigotry and xenophobia i think you’ve misunderstood the whole concept… I don’t come on a public forum and slag off the brits but you don’t miss any opportunity in having a go at anyone you deem of an inferior nationality…
Half the world doesn’t like America doesn’t mean that all Americans are bad, would you like it if the English were judged on the basis of their acts during the colonial era. Knowing you you probably would as it would give you an excuse to berate their country..
Lastly I’d like to state again this is not a ‘We love mother England’ forum it’s an Arsenal forum so lets keep it like that…

well if thats the case then lets not tolerate
any prick coming on here and say they hate the very country that this forum’s teams plays in !

Because i feel if you are passing judgment on the ENGLISH NATIONAL TEAM in a negative light then at least do it on a website where your simply not going to generate an intentional fight !

make the statement on a TEAM USA website …

no bigotry or xenophobia intended just fucking common sense if you ask me !

I don’t know the last time you checked but the PL isn’t as English you think. As soon as foreign players flooded the PL it has become a global spectacle who’s viewers’ needn’t have any love for England. If you don’t want foreigners watching and following the PL you shouldn’t have them playing there either…
Also no one said the England the nation sucks they said the don’t like the national team which is 2 different things. Many Englishmen also share the feeling, it’s a game FFS stop trying to mix it with national honour. National honour is determined by what the country does not the it’s football team.

well Paul…. Fuck the English national team and fuck off if you don’t like it. You guys are ridiculously overrated, no technique, no vision, no movement. A bunch of overpaid idiots.
    —————————————
    yeah right !

  11. ethangunner

i think when you say YOU GUYS ! your referring to the bulk of people who write here …

So b4 you start calling people bigamists or xenophobic READ THE FUCKING COMMENTS !

no i dont start fights i just give my opinion ..
and this is just another case of it ..

Ofourse its different when Australians say that England sux. With so many poms out here now, something must be wrong with the place ;)

Its Brown  no not the colour you PC thinkers.

  13. gnarleygeorge9

Anyone who reckons Lucas Neill is not much of a player, is not a good judge of a CB. Australia leaks the least amount of goals than any national team in world footy. At next years world cup if you score against us, you will be doing a bloody good job.

  14. Mayank

Well ethan your reaction wasn’t to that and that response is out of line but it still gives you no right to call people names. Also you’ve completely missed the point and as usual you’ve changed the argument. People come on here and said the don’t care about the ENT, you reacted to that and took it as an insult to the country. I don’t care about the USA national basketball team, does that mean i can’t watch NBA matches(not that i do).
Also pertaining to the comment i’m sure the writer meant the NT and not the people.

  15. Mayank

no i dont start fights i just give my opinion ..

    and

but what else can you expect from colonial rejects !

If this is not starting a fight i don’t know what is…

Huntelaar & van Der Vaat, are they mean’t to be good or something. They huffed & puffed last night but looked pretty harmless IMO
