Good morning Grovers! Winter has finally crashed in with an unwelcome bang, lashings of rain, a sharp breeze and loads of gloominess to make getting up for work that little bit harder! Oh the joys of living in the UK.
Nothing like a £4.99 England match against the Ukraine to help you forget all your worries, eh? That’s terrific. During an international week, I can’t even bore myself to sleep by heading down the pub to watch the game with the swathes of ‘Ingerlaaaaand’ supporters who rear their ugly faces for the once every 3 month occasion. I wonder how many viewers Bet365 will miss out on by streaming the match at home? I wonder if the FA’s sponsor; EON, realise their ‘Get down the pub to watch football because it’s greener’ advert now looks a little stupid. Millions of power draining PC’s will be purring tonight because the FA sold out the environment as well as the fans!
Referring to the headline, yes, we’ve sold out… but only to a charity! Oh my, I bet I had a few of the conspiracy theorists a little damp when they clicked on this morning!
Basically this is a message for anyone who feels guilty about not buying the Gooner Review CD I so eloquently critiqued a couple of months ago. Their worldwide Première is this coming Tuesday and tickets are only £7 online! I believe Paul Kay is going to be there, some ex players and a few others I dare not mention! In other news, apparently David Dein secured first refusal for Cesc with Barcelona way back when. I don’t really get this first refusal malarkey, just like I don’t get the pre-contract agreements players supposedly sign when they’re under contract. I think the Barca propaganda machine is gearing up for a year of unsettling behaviour. If the other blogs liked us, I’d suggest we all run intermittent stories about Barcelona players all year… get our own back and see if we can cause trouble… shame we’re in a gang of our own!
Finally, I saw an interview on another website for a book. Just so you know, the PR agency for this book contacted me to ask whether I’d publicise it for free, to which I declined but I did say I’d do it if I had the chance to interview the authors. Well, it looks like the authors shied away… maybe it was the run in with Geoff one of them had a few years back over an article on the onlineGooner, maybe it was because one of the authors is a half spud… maybe it’s because they heard Le Grove is a massive supporter of cornflakes, not porridge or muesli (read here). We’ll never know Grovers, we’ll never know!
Anyway, I’m off for a bowl of Kellogg’s finest, have a rip roaring Saturday, please resist the meds and vodka cupboard… normal football will resume soon!

Drogba is playing well but I think that Arshavin could go up a couple of gears still despite his recent good form.
Arshavin will be in the mix for Premiership player of the year this year.

i hate watching the England team play…they are a turn-off. Its like watching Bolton or Chelsea :/ I only watch them when their up against the quality attacking sides,and then England usually get their ass whooped HAHA! BTW what has Trevor Brooking done to improve the grassroot levels in this country.He needs to work in tandem with a Dutchman or any ex-coach who will get the ball rolling and highlight the importance of technique and basics of touch & move football to the grassroots & club academies and hopefully then we’l have a regular flow of ‘gazza’s,gerrards,Rooney’s etc.

KM I am in Jewellery myself… …I do get to all the home games and all the Sunday aways and 2 CL aways a year. Gutted really if I had every Saturday off I would be on the away scheme no doubt, would probably not go to many home games though… …funny that but I much prefer being in the away support with everyone singing load and proud than being arround supporters who show up late and leave early sit while reading the paper and eating etc.

They’r v.lucky to be where they are – even Merida would he get ahead of Pedro/Jeffren at Barca or ahead of VDVaart at Madrid?(These players i’v mentioned are squad players.)Our youngsters will have to wait for their chance – look at Gibbs!These youngsters are at the right club and under the best management for youth development.Their target should be to put their head down,improve their game,and get ahead of the likes of Diaby & Denilson. At present Ramsey & Merida are a year behind the duo imo. If they cant/dnt want to get ahead of them then they should move on.

We are virtually carrying Diaby game to game at the moment and if that is the case then I would rather see the likes of Merida and Ramsey given a chance.
Everytime Ramsey comes on, he makes an impact on the game, yet half the time I forget that Diaby was even playing.
Merida will be a loss if he moves on, the lad is quality,
I am actually a bit surprised that he was given such a short term pro contract in the first place. I would have thought it would be better to tie these type of players down until they are at least 22.
The other thing with Diaby is that people keep saying that he has youth on his side……
Yet he is going to be 24 at the end of this season, and surely if he was going to be a top player, you would have seen more in his game by now.

I just feel it is unfair on the likes of Ramsey and Merida to keep giving Diaby chances that he fails to take week in week out. It really has been like playing with ten men.
He played a lot last year and failed to impress me and the same is happening this year.
If you gave me a choice now between Merida Signing and staying and Diaby leaving, then I would take Merida every day of the week.

Diaby has some great skill on the ball no doubt about it, but he has little awareness for others and is not a team player just an individualist.
He will be great one day for the likes of Pompey or a Ligue 1 team, but for me the guy has no future at Arsenal with better players chomping at the bit.
I am hoping Wenger is putting him in the shop window for that January sale, if we loose Fran I will be gutted.

I’m welsh and see Ramsey a lot playing for wales and i find that for the U-21 level he was exceptional.He does well for Arsenal when he comes on in the 80th min or so when we’r cruising.However i feel he’s struggled when he comes on at the 65th min or so.I cant remember the games now but it was the same last yr,hence why i believes he needs to bed in slowly as Wenger is doing now.To get ahead of Diaby, he needs to be playing exceptionally well or doing something amazing in training to make Wenger believe that Ramsey is ready to leapfrog or even challenge Diaby/Denilson.I admit that the 2 D’s have flaws in their game,but i’d like to see Ramsey start a run of games to see if he can do better. Diaby can be an amazing player imo but he needs all aspects of his game to ‘click’ when that happens everyone will jump on the ‘I always thought Diaby was class’ bandwagon
.Imo he needs to concentrate throughout a whole game,come back & help with the defensive side of the game.Stop trying to take on too many players at the wrong time and wrong area of the pitch and he needs to keep it simple. Denilson is another one who has so much talent,but is a squad player.However he does so much dogwork for Cesc,and covers Clichy when the full back is bombing fwd,in short he brings balance to the side. Imo Denilson needs to become stronger so he can battle in midfield,he needs to stop giving the ball easily (he’s guilty of that sometimes) and he needs to show up when we play the big boys,because bar that ROMA game last yr,he becomes invisible when playing against the top4 sides. Merida is Cesc’s replacement,so he will have to wait in the wings.
