Mannone may not be the one but he proves a point.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

And that point is? Well that point is, it proves unequivocally that Almunia clearly isn’t good enough. I thought Vito was magnificent, I have to admit I didn’t think he could step up, but he did, so well done Vito.

Vito himself said he had the game of his life, but why? That should be what a keeper does week in, week out, other top keepers do, Given does for one, I think this shows us that we really are lacking a top keeper, don’t forget we are the Arsenal, we should have a top keeper.

We can have the greatest outfield players in the world, but if the keeper is bad, it matters not.

You are only as good as your weakest link, and we have a few I’m afraid, but to have one between the sticks is asking for trouble.

When Lehmann went south, Wenger was ruthless, Almunia got the nod and we applauded, now Almunia is good for a clanger in every game and frankly he should be replaced, we have 3 young kids, if they could step up, great, we then have a goalie for 10 years, if they aren’t ready, then we need to buy a Given, yes I know he’s gone but we need to buy someone of that ilk, maybe Robert Green, I don’t know who, but I do know that we need to do something.

Arsenal have always had great keepers, Wilson, Rimmer, Jennings, Lukic, Seaman and Lehmann and I even liked Stuart Taylor but he went. We can get away with mediocrity outfield but we can’t between the sticks.

Arsene you need to be ruthless, Almunia and his performances so far this season have been unacceptable, bring on a kid or buy a new keeper, he isn’t good enough for us to win a title.

Great result against Fulham, there are no pictures on a scorecard, and high time we learned to win ugly, mission accomplished there boss, however, the cracks were beginning to appear, let’s hope we can put that right and put in an Arsenalesque performance against the bubbles on Tuesday.

Have a great day Grovers, tomorrow we are back on the big stage and we need three points.

    Pat;

I didnt rate Mannone much, from the reserve and yute games I saw, plus pre-season. But he has surprised me and doen very well. Its way too early to say either way I guess, but if he keeps playing well, i’d have no problems with him keeping the number 1 shirt, at least till Fabianski is back.

As for Szczesny, I also think he will be a top top toppity tip top keeper too…

  2. nikhil

to be fair to arsene.. i think tat he has dropped almunia to prove a point.. i think the chest infection which has lasted for weeks is merely a load of bull

  3. Rohan

Mannone probably gave one of the performances of the season imo. If he can keep that up, then he will defo be our no.1…… Almunia will be off nest season though for sure for sunny Spain.

  4. ManGoonian

Yeah, make sure you get your rise, before the boss does…

I have slept my way to the top and now I am in charge of the Chicken McNuggets…

  5. Rohan

I don’t know about the Subway in the UK but here the Subway is extremely over-priced in terms of VFM…..or has become in recent times.

  6. ManGoonian

Sorry, but I detest 2 and a 1/2 men… Charlie Sheen is a twat and that kid needs a slap and the other dude soooo fuckin annoying…

Basically I do not like it.

  7. Rohan

How I Met Your Mother is great though…
After Prison Break ended last yeat I need to get my weekly fix form some place else…..

    Roahn;

Sorry bruv. Just personal taste. You know, I like to pee on women, and Stu shags glazed donuts.

Different strokes for different folks and all that.

    eboue;

Ahh, I see where you is going with this now…

  9. Rohan

I saw the first 10 episodes of Dexter and found it disturbing. A lot of my friends like it though.
    Lost is epic too….
Anyone seen the new show Flashforward ??

  10. Pat

Goodplaya makes a very good point:

Vito Mannone took plaudits and deservedly so. That said, let’s not get carried away. We’d have expected most of those to be saved and on a couple of occasions his acrobatics possibly served to keep the chance alive.
I’m not trying to piss on a young player’s good performance. I just think the TV commentators went a little over the top.

  11. Pat

Rohan, I used to play Halo, but now all I play if Fifa. Didn’t even know a new Halo came out? Is it a lot different from Halo 3?

  12. Pat

Also, Clichy has looked like shit since Denilson got injured. It was he who helped out Clichy. Arshavin doesn’t do shit defensively, neither does Diaby.

If Rosicky starts, Clichy will look better

  13. Ja_Gunner

Hopefully Spain go far….they and Brazil seem like the best teams so far………with maybe one of the african counries like Ghana or Cameroon as outside favourites..

Hopefully whether they win or lose Fran comes back full of confidence ready to destroy a second string Liverpool side in the Carling cup Oct 27th

    Team for that game

    ……………….Manone/Szecsney…………….

    Gil/Hoyte………Senderos…..Silv/Bartley……Gibbs

    …………………Coquelin……………………..

    …Ramsey…………………………Merida……….

    ..Wilshere………….Vela………………..Watt….

That team should be able to beat a Liverpool team of Ngog’s, Lucas’s, Voronin’s etc……hoepfully

  14. Ja_Gunner

Tahiti git 8-0 again from Venezuela…..

This time Venezuela was helped by the fact that Tahiti got 2 red cards in the first half I think…

Well I guess Nigeria still have a chance to go thru in third place if they can beat Tahiti badly as well….

ARSENAL footballer Nicklas Bendtner crashed his £120,000 Aston Martin in Times Territory yesterday (Sunday) morning.

The Premiership star was travelling northbound along the A1 towards South Mimms when he left the road.

His car was badly damaged but the 21-year-old Danish international did not suffer any serious injury.

However, he will miss the club’s Champions League clash with Olympiakos at the Emirates Stadium tomorrow night (Tuesday).

The crash, which took place at around 10.15am did not involve any other cars.

A Herts police spokesman said: “We were called at 10.15am to a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision.

“A black Aston Martin vehicle had left the road. The driver was not seriously injured.”

The more I see of Merida is the more I think he has even more potentail then Fab4. Already he is a player schooled in the ways of ‘Pep’ in terms of passing, but unlike Fab4, he has shown more attributes such as taking direct freekicks and penalties. I believe Fab4′s onlt penalty of note was the one at the Euros vs Italy.

  17. Stu

zeus, how do you mean “schol of Pep”? Merida has been with us for years…before Pep took over at Barca.

Merida imo is more of an Iniesta than Fabregas anyway. Merida is more of an attacking midfielder while Cesc is an attack minded centre midfielder.

  18. zeus

    @ Stu

Yes he has been with us for years, but in those pivotal formative years when he was establishing his style, he was at Barca. Players like Fab4, Xavi, Iniesta have all stated publicly that they base their style of play on Pep’s using technique and flair as opposed to power. I believe we can add Merida to that list of players.

  19. ManGoonian

Its my prediction you numb nuts!

But after actually watchin a bit, I might have to change my view.

Fuckin classic quote from that dinosaur Royle about lescott’s challenge on Faubert.

“In this current climate, it couldve been a yellow…”

Fuck sake! Should’ve been a red!

  20. Stu

Well apparently Pep joined Barca as a coach in 2007. So he wouldnt have had any affect on Merida if any at all. And none on Cesc or Iniesta.

    Now its 1-1. Carlton cole.

  21. ManGoonian

    Stu;

I am seeing a bright future for you… yes, very bright, I am seeing you in a bright orange jumpsuit… doing Community Service ….

Fuck off Royle you biased cunt!

  22. zeus

Pep wouldn’t influence them directly. He started coaching the youth team after fab4 and fran left. My point is though his game and style has been copied by both.

  23. Ja_Gunner

Why cant Van persie take a freekick like that?

I am hoping for a draw..but West Ham have been poor all season……..so it looks like Mancity will win…

  24. ManGoonian

    Come on you Hammers…

Fuck me, ESPN are just as bad, biased and wanky as Setanta… Chris effin Waddle, jon Chumpion and thick as fuck Royle…

  25. Stu

MG, whats up your arse ffs. And why am i biased?

Zeus, i still dont get your point. They learned to play at Barca like Guardiola did, that i understand. But after that is where i get lost…sorry.

  26. ManGoonian

    Stu;

You said sumfin about predicting the future, so I did an hilarious little joke about you havin a bright future.

Sorry, mate, i didnt realise it was true…

    Is your surname Royle too?

  27. ManGoonian

When the manc derby was on, for the 1st time in my life, i wanted Fergie’s fuckers to win…

I want City to crash and burn and all their used to take the moral high ground about United buying the league, but now are as chavtastic as the original chavski cunts, can fuck right off… Wankers.

    Ooh, that feels better.

  28. Pat

MG, Cole got all ball and ref whistled foul. West ham scored but a late flag by the lineemen. Fucking ridiculous really. The officiating in this country is awful

  29. Ja_Gunner

That idiot commentator said that Arsenal should be worried because City will challenge for the cl spots..he didnt mention Liverpool or the rest…….

I hate those fucking biased commentators.

  30. Mayank

Somehow i hate United more, mostly because of the fans but also because of the players… and the manager… and the tea lady…
Wanted them to lose i’d love to have City in the top4 at Utd’s expense…

  31. ManGoonian

    Thanks Pat.

Ja G; Yeah, well get used to it, till May, or until the scousers, chavs or United are overtaken by City, which ever is sooner.

  32. ManGoonian

That commentator is talkin shit. City were great at United for equalising 3 times??? They were flukey as fuck and then he goes on about Faubert’s play acting… And nuffin about the actual freekin challenge…

  33. ManGoonian

    Mayank;

Of course hate United by all means. Its only natural. But the speed in which City, their manager, players and fans have turned into these arrogant cunts is something to behold. At least the United lot won shit first.

And the way the media have kissed ass en masse, is revolting…

  34. Stu

Dont get the navy one purely based on me tho.

Personally i dont get numbers because of fear of a player leaving or changing number and im stuck with a ruined shirt.

  35. Ja_Gunner

Well hopefully the teams around us will drop points at the weekend..

I hope Chelsea and Liverpool draw
I hope Man City and Aston Villa draw again
I hope Sunderland can hold Manure or beat them
I hope Bolton can atleast hold Tottenham at home…

And above all we need to beat Blackburn…..4-0 I say

  36. Samir

    Lol.
Don’t think Arshavin will be leaving any time soon. He may change his number however……
Does anyone else here think Van Persie should not be so selfish with the free-kicks… Im sure Arshavin would have scored a few by now or maybe even Vermy’s left foot!

  37. Ja_Gunner

Samir but Arshavin would more than likely take free kicks from the other side….Arshavin would take the ones that Fabgregas takes……

and yeah I think Vermy should take over the ones that Van persie takes lol….

Cesc should continue to take the indirect freekicks from his side…but as for direct freekicks..he should give them to Asrhy or Nasri…

For RVP’s side ..RVP should take the indirect ones as he seems to swing them in well….but as for direct freekicks..I think Vermy should take over…

  38. Stu

Seeing as VP is usually all about power for free kicks he should only take the ones further out and hope it gets a deflection.

Arshavin should take the ones closer to goal because he can place the ball instead of just hitting it as hard as possible, which is what VP always seems to do.

  39. Ja_Gunner

I actually think that Robinho will leave the PL soon….because….City have Bellamy,Teves,Santa Cruz, Ade,etc……

Ade or Santa can play striker…..but they have versatile attackers like Bellamy, Teves,ireland,wright-phillips who can play the role Robinho plays….

Barca will soon need someone to take Thierry’s spot on the left…I think they will go for either Ribery or Robinho…..and Ribery may go to Real because of the Zidane connection….

So i think Barca will come in for Robinho in 1-2 years.

  40. Ja_Gunner

But Stu I doubt that Arshy will want to take the freekicks on that side…..unless he uses Ronaldo’s straight on technique instead of the curling technique…

I think Vermy should take the ones on RVP’s side….Arshy or Nasri should take the ones on the other side……

  41. Samir

    Interesting bit from footballfancast:

The solution to the problem for me lay in our central defence partnership and a certain Thomas Vermaelen as personally I couldn’t think of a better footballer to take on the midfield role and provide that foil for Fabregas. Vermaelen has been in sensational form for us this season, however as well as being strong defensively he has proven he has got another string to his bow as an attacking force and he is extremely comfortable with the ball at his feet and certainly can pick a pass. Although his loss to the defence will be obvious, I just wonder whether the presence of a strong player like Vermaelen in the midfield will provide that defensive barrier and allow Wenger to move Song into the backline or give Senderos another chance alongside Gallas. At the end of the day Vermaelen being in the defence is not stopping teams opening us up and that is the real problem that Wenger needs to resolve and moving up from the back four may seem an audacious move, but I believe it will be one that will bring its rewards and hopefully bring some much needed stability into the midfield.

  42. Ja_Gunner

Oh and city also have Petrov…..so I think Barca will come calling for Robinho pretty soon to take over from Henry….

I just think Ribery will end up at Real or Manure…

  43. Samir

    _________Mannone_________
    Sagna–????–Gallas–Clichy
    _________Vermaelen_________
    _____Fabregas–Nasri/Rosicky
    ___Arshavin–Van.P–Eduardo

Wenger should try and find a new world class CB. One like Vermy.
Imagion Vermy as DM, he would be amazing. Great passing, defending and shooting……

  44. ManGoonian

    It is clear… man City and mark Hughes have copied Aston Villa and martin O’Neill’s tactic of last season;

Play like the away team, all the feckin time. A very short term plan and will get found out soon enough.

They will not do anything this season, next or the one after that… I can see the future, just ask Stu.

  45. ManGoonian

    Samir;

Yeah, that makes sense. Move Vermilli out of defence where he has been forming a great partnership with Gallas…

  46. raynor73

wouldnt be a bad move to try. The blogger has some sense. He is cool on the ball, hardly ever mis-places a pass, can tackle, is hard as nails, can strike a ball and has better positional sense than Song. Heck. We should try him as he ticks all the right boxes.

  47. choy

I think City are pretty good, sure they have paid over the odds, but they have had to.

They don’t play in Europe, hence they had to pay, their team is pretty good with all the attackers coming in.

  48. raynor73

At this moment in time Jaguar, I wouldnt make a bet! Too hard to say, but for sure this years going see my nails get bitten down to the point it really hurts…Gonna go to the wire I reckon.

  49. Samir

Lol I’m not saying move him out of defence. Just how good he could be at Dm…..
Gallas will be off at the end of the season so I hope Wenger will buy another world class one like Vermy.

  50. raynor73

A defender with obviously far more talent than our current Midfield stalwart Song.

I’d give him a go. TH14 was a winger before AW played him up front. If you’re good enough, you’re good enough.

  51. Jaguar

Pool would certainly finish below us.So I should assume that,we would finish in the fourth, with City third and Pool fifth.

Realistically,I believe we would finish in the top three with Chelsea romping away with the title, and United finishing second.

  52. Jaguar

And if Mr.Wenger gets an insight and he decides to play Rosicky/Nasri ahead of Diabolical ,and Nikki B upfront,we might end up lifting the trophy.

  53. Jaguar

Gallas contract would be a litmus test of Mr.Wenger’s transfer policies. If he decides to give a two year contract to Gallas,he would permanently be gifted with the name Le Hypocrite. Not that,I want Gallas to move, but Mr.Wenger should be consistent with his policies.
