Superstar possibly on radar / Defender misery… / Takeover nearing!

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Morning Grovers! So a weekend where I managed to avoid the chore of international football… well, bar the Wayne Rooney incident. I find it amazing that so many people are surprised the English media don’t report heavily on diving incidents committed by our own players… well people, let me enlighten you…

Slagging your own off doesn’t sell papers

It’s not racism or xenophobia… it’s marketing.

Graham Poll makes a weak point about Rooney… ‘don’t label him a diver before a World Cup because refs might take that into account when making a decision’… is the jist of his article. Graham, you’ve got to nail the problem at the root cause… don’t dive and people wont label.

So more injury disasters for JD… he’s out for six months after complaining of a knee injury last month. I’m a bit shocked that we didn’t sign an emergency defender before the window closed becasue I’m sure our medical staff were aware of the ramifications if the Swiss centre back was lost to a cartilage operation. We’re now in a situation where if we lose one of our main men, we’re looking at pulling a player out of a position he’s doing well in, to play him in a position we have no idea how well he’ll do in. Or alternatively, sticking Senderos or Silvestre in as back up… not title contending options really.

In other news, Arsene Wenger has expressed his admiration for Ballotelli… the extremely talented Italian youngster. He has had attitude problems at Inter Milan and nearly went on loan to West Ham for the season… maybe there will be a bid launched at some time in the future if he doesn’t settle in under Jose. Arsene seems to specialise in calming players with a poor attitude to the game.

I was reading about Chavski’s failing youth set up yesterday on the train. They’ve spent something in the region of £62million in the last few season luring top talent from around the world in the hope they can produce a John Terry type player… can you believe that sum? Spending that much money defeats the object of a youth set up for me. I reckon if you spent that much money buying players from the championship you’d have more luck unearthing a gem. I do wonder why Arsenal never look down there for players… Shawcross, Turner and Lescott have all done pretty well in the Premiership and all cost minimal money in fees. Sometimes I think we miss a trick…

Before I go, a story which received minimal coverage last week was the one about Usmanov being very near a full take over of the club. Who takes over the club bothers me little… no one made a billion being a nice guy and no one takes over a club with a view to destroying it. The only way you make a return on £400million is by maximising revenue… the only way to do that in football is by making your club the most successful one… interesting times ahead I feel!

Anyway… have a great Monday, see you in the comments!

David, do you not see that he’s playing in a vastly weaker team than Portugal on his own up top… and scoring as a good goal as a good thing?

  2. Pedro

Choy… he is desperate to see Nik fail… it’s like good performances from Nik upset him… there’s always an excuse for them…

  3. choy

Portugal team was full of chavs and mancs and ex manc’s …!

    Yeah i agree pedro..

David why are you so bitter towards him? Which other 21 yr old would you rather have?

  4. Ray in SF

    skandibird (10:05). Ageism!! Ageism!!

“Usmanov, I’m not against it, he’ll bring money which will be available to buy in players, and hopefully get rid of that PHW, who is tooooooo old now, still living in a ‘world’ of ‘tally ho’, sipping G & T on his beautiful veranda.”

Because I’m an old fart, I’d like to believe that there’s nothing wrong with being old and sipping G&Ts on a beautiful veranda, but I do agree that PHW regards our team as his business…and his business interests are taking precedence over the growth and improvement of our team.

Not sure about Usmanov yet, but would certainly like to see Dein back at the club — chairman’s role would do very nicely.

  5. Rohan

On a personal level, I can’t stand Mark Randall. :D
No, but seriously something about him is bentleyesque – a cuntish air…. It doesnt help that he never has a good game though.COquelin is probably ahead of him now and I hope to god wenger gets rid of him.

  6. Stu

David, in fairness tho.. you saying he didnt have a good performance might be the same as someone who doesnt hate him saying he played ok.

Not good for you might very well be good for everyone else (considering your “liking” of Bendtner.

  7. Rohan

Nick worked extremely hard, David.. better service form midfield and he would easily have had more chances. Adebayor in Villareal did jack shit most of the game.

    —————————-

And If scoring a goal while playing like shite is a good performance then Ade should be your hero.

  9. Stu

Rohan, i totally agree. I fucking hate that cunt. I just want to hit the fucker right in the face and kick him in the neck.

He is fairly talented but just too much of a cunt for me to like him.

But just to be clear i dont hate him because he is shot …i just hate him.

  10. David

    Rohan

Except score a fantastic bycicle kick goal.

    Which is exactly my point

The only thing you had to say to me about Nikk was…

David, did you by any chance manage to see Bendtner’s goal the other day. That was a striker’s goal if I ever saw one… one which Thierry Henry wouldve been proud of

    —————–

  11. Pedro

Yeah gotta say I didn’t see the game, but that doesn’t look like a counter attack to me… in fact, that is so far from a counter attack, I wonder if you watched the game David? Sounds like Anti Nik propaganda there…

Super goal… great control, great finish against a team miles better than the Danish.

  12. Stu

David, did you watch the whole game? I ask because i remember you looking for the goal after everyone else was saying he scored a cracker. So if you were watching live surely you would have seen it the same time as everyone else.

  13. David

If anyone watched the game theyd know 2 things

    1. Nikk was shite bar the goal.

    2. Denmark played defensively throughout.

Choy if Nikk wins 90% of everything in the air then you obviously didnt watch the game.

Infact i think i was having an argument with ManG as to why he was on the floor so much on air challenges…and he argued that he was “playing for the foul”

I didnt remember the build up to the goal…it was a counter attack when my stream died.

  14. Mayank

David this is getting boring… 90% of the time you’re here you’re complaining about Nik. If you must complain then take your pick out of a variety of subjects you hear people complain about.
I was with you on the Ade scape-goating when he was around, but this is getting very boring.

    ———————————

    Is that a serious Question?

  16. Master B

Man this gy has the swager and i mean the Henry swager, very confident for a 19 year old. Those are the kind of youngsters I want, the kind that look like their 25.

O yea and I watched Chamakh vs Ade yesterday.

Ade looked like he hurt himself not sure if he would be fit for Saturday.

Chamakh looks hungry on the ball but cant say much since Togo had most of the possession.

    —————-

Does that have anything to do with Nikk??? Jeez

  18. David

Once again I was answering a question….Does that merrit a “whooo hooo”

    IMO IT DOES! heehee.

NO seriously i cant wait to see Theo back playing where he belongs. He is more of a problem on the right imo.

  19. Stu

David, i know what you meant. I saw Pedros question. But you didnt have to say “Bendy finally on the bench” or whatever you said. Thats all im saying.

  20. David

Yea stu…but i reallly wanted to talk about how Ade might be injured and Chamakh….but people were more interested in Bendy. So there you have it.

  21. Stu

Fair enough but you’re famous on here for your dislike of Bendtner so obviously people are gonna pick up on a comment like that.

So lets just move on. What was Ades injury?

  22. Mayank

You’ll never rate Nik just like Geoff will never rate Song. Let’s just leave it at that. It’s irrational to constantly pull up one player of the team constantly. Like i said earlier, I hate Ronaldo and in any match where he gets less than 2 goals seems like a crap performance to me.

  23. Pedro

David, I find it interesting that you have time for Theo who is arguably just as weak in front of goal… and pretty average on the wing?

  24. David

If Theo is weak infront of goal what is Niklaus Bendtner?

If Theo was weak infront of goal why was he signed to Arsenal?

If Theo was weak infrot of goal why was his famous more than 100 goals at the age of 14?

If Theo was weak infront of goal why does he seem to score or assist in the important games…FA cup semi final…The CL at home against Villareal with the delightful chip?

And you berrate me for hatred against Bendy.

I find that Interesting as well Pedro

  25. Mayank

Theo goes missing in many games, i don’t think his game is too one dimensional but i’d like him to slow down sometimes. He’s not a weak finisher. Thing is he’s never been played upfront where he’s suited for, so there’s not much point commenting on his scoring form.

  26. Stu

You cant use youth goals to justify Theo being great because Bendtner was consistently one of the reserve top scorers at arsenal before breaking into the first team.

Bendtner was also signed by arsenal at a similar age. He has more goals for the first team i would bet. And has probably scored more winners too.

Neither are great in front of goal but Bendtner offers more than Theo, probably even on the wing. Theo is basically just pace imo.

  27. Mayank

Walcott is a bit of a luxury too imo. He brings no defensive ability to the table and is not built for a PL CF role. If he can become more responsible i believe he’ll fit very nicely in the RS spot.

  28. David

    Stu

The argument is Theo is weak infront of goal and that is laughable coming from a Bendy fan.

And im not sure you want to bring up the reserves thing because Jay Simpson was a top scorer in the reserves now wasnt he? So was Barcarite (sp?)

  29. Pedro

David, read my comment… arguably just as weak in front of goal…

Did you really just pull Theo’s goal record as a 14 year old? When he was playing for Newbury town! haha! Brilliant!

Take a read of Bendtner’s record at reserve level… it was amazing.

Considering the lambasting you do of Nik, their records aren’t too dissimilar…

Just goes to show your hatred… you’ll go back to Theo’s amateur record to back him, yet you wont consider a great goal against Portugal for Nik.

  30. Rohan

Bendtner is a much more intelligent player than theo and I think that he will go on to become a better player in the long-run… Having said that, theo does offer us a different dimension but I would rather him as a super sub…
Bendtner came up with some important goals last season.. Theo on the other hand is all about pace.. Without it, he would probably be playing in the championship. But, he is young and under the tutelage of arshavin and wenger he could improve greatly.

  31. Mayank

I just noticed we might be the most compact team in the world. Our defence plays a high line to keep the game going our 4-3-3 has an inverted top 3 to bring defensive stability. Our whole team can fit into the space b/w the centre and the penalty area.

  32. David

Im not English and ive never lived in England so Newbury town makes as much sense to me as Ashburton grove.

    So forgive my ignorance.

Scoring 100 goals at 14 is impressive is all im saying.

Nikk overs more defensively on the right than theo but bar that im not sure?

As someone pointed out there was the think about playing in wide positions as well?

Nikk has played in the wide position since Liverpool away last year.

So how many goals did he bag in for the club since then?

  33. Pedro

Rohan, if Theo played more games like he did against Chavski… with a bit of composure, he could be a great player. The problem with Theo is he lacks instinct… it’s not natural for him to go past player like it is for Vela and Arshavin.

I think he’ll be a good player, I just can’t see him winning the Balon D’or like some…

  34. Rohan

For someone who plys his trade as a striker, walcott has rarley impressed me in front of goal.. his finishing isnt all that ( apart from the villareal goal ) and his linkup play is woeful to say the least.
However the 433 I think will liberate Theo to an extent but I still don’t see him cementing a first team place in the near future.
As a striker, just compare him with Vela.. Vela imo is the true heir to the Va-Va-Voom…

  35. Stu

I seem to remember a friend telling me how Bojan scored like 300 goals for the barca youths. Now Theos 100 doesnt seem so impressive does it.

And not being english means what? Im not english either but know the difference between a top club and Newbury…whoever the fuck they are.

  36. David

    Stu

Nobody said you shouldnt bring up the reserve records…but its laughable that you want to bring up the top scorers in our reserves and yet Jay Simpson is shite isnt he?

  37. David

Thats quite stupid…you have to start from somewhere…which player at 14 scores for fun at a top club?

And Bojan is a super star is there any evidence to say that he isnt and wouldnt be world class???

  38. Rohan

True Pedro. However much I hate to say this, Theo is a tad overrated imo and I really don’t see him ever making it really big. That’s just my opinion though. I do hope he goes on to become a legend.
You know, Theo would make an excellent bargaining chip in a swap deal… HOw about 20mill + theo for torres. :D
Torres might be itching to leave if ‘pool don’t win anything this season.

    =======================

And this is coming from another Bendtner fan. Amazing.

  40. Pedro

David, have you heard of a team in any of the Divisions called Newbury Town?

I don’t live in America, but if I saw a good home run record for a player who at 14 played for the Stockton Stealers, I’d know it wouldn’t count for much in an argument…

  41. Rohan

If you can bring up Theo’s record at 14.. i think stu is more than entitled to bring up Bendy’s reserve record. David,

  42. Mayank

I think Theo will be a late bloomer. ROnaldo was shit till 22(or 21?). Theo might get to 25 w/o being brilliant but i think he’ll get there eventually. Whether with us or not is a different matter.

  43. Stu

I wouldnt say shit Mayank. Why else would united have bought him at 18 or however old he was. The players asked Fergie to buy Ronaldo so he must have been pretty good at the time.

  44. Pedro

David, you started the reserve thing, now you’re jumping on Stu for correctly pointing out that Nik formed one of the best reserve partnerships we’ve seen at Arsenal… much better than Simpsons I beleive.

Newbury town aren’t a top club… that’s the point… he was playing for an amateur club in his age group and scored a bundle of goals. There are plenty of kids who do that!

  45. Rohan

    Rohan Says:

I didnt say that Bendtner’s finishing and composure is great did I. I’m just pointing out that Theo’s isnt a natural goalscorer in my eyes. My point is that he is a more complete player than Theo.

  46. Mayank

Torres won’t leave ‘Pool until he’s sold by them. I’d heard he used to wear a wristband or something at AM which read you’ll never walk alone on the inside.

Pedro what the fuck are Stockton Stealers?

  47. David

Ah well we are having this argument like the Newbury town was the only point i made.

Fact is Theo was out injured forever..much like Cesc…they both suffered dip in forms on their return and still managed to do great things…i think its silly to compare Theo’s goal scoring to Bendy just giving the chances Bendy has had alone in the central position.

  48. Pedro

Mayank, Ronaldo was outrageously talented even as a raw 18 year old… in a similar way to Jack Wilshere… Theo doesn’t have that in him… but he could do a nice job out wide and he should be good for 15+ goals a year.

  49. Rohan

We were comparing thoe’s complete game to that of bendtner’s and he doesnt match up imo.

As for great things, a couple of 60m runs every 20 games don’t make him a great player.

  50. David

    Rohan

Thats like me saying Bollateli or Vela is a more complete player than Bendy. For the reasons you just mentioned. BUt if youre trying to convince me Bendy is a more “complete player” woteva the hell that means…maybe you shouldnt have started with the goal scoring thing as that was the first thing you said…so it was hard for me to follow through the rest after that.

  51. Mayank

He was a show pony and he had completely up-staged the man u team in some match they played against lisbon. The players forced him to buy him on the ride back home. He had something about him but he wasn’t able to channelise it till 22, same with theo he has something about him that scares defenders but he’s not able to use it yet.

  52. Stu

I think “complee player” means a more rounded game. As in Theo is all about his pace whereas Bendtner is good in the air, good at link up play etc etc.

  53. Mayank

Pedro Ronaldo was an outrageous dribbler those are not very hard to find. Look at Queresma, there was a time where he was considered one of the best young talents. ROnaldo owes most of his success to Ferguson and the Man U training staff. He had his moments much like theo but the player he is doesn’t resemble him at 19yo.

  54. Stu

    *complete”

And what does Rohan being a teen have to do with it? Is his opinion less valid? Like Bendtners goals against lesser teams dont count as much.

  55. luke

Did you guys see Nikki’s goal against portugal? Wish he’d do that for us more. I think he looks a lot more confident this year.

  56. skandibird

Ray In SF -18:25 – LOL, for an ‘old fart’ you do certainly know how to make an ‘old bird’ laugh. Not sure about the G&T though, much prefer a glass of cold Prosecco.

Come on boys, please lay of Theo; I reckon he and Arshavin link up really well, and soon as Theo comes back, we may just see more of that. IMO I don’t think he is over rated, I think he just needs more time, and more precise to be used more central than on the right/left flank – IMO……

  57. Samir

    David Beckham:
“There has been far too much talk about diving.

“No-one wants to see it and it is disappointing when it happens. But it happens every week and Eduardo is not the first person to have done it.

“The whole thing should be put to bed.

“Eduardo is a great player. It is not that long ago that he suffered an horrific injury.

“You don’t know what was going through his mind. He might have been trying to get out of the way of a tackle so he didn’t get injured again.”

  58. David

Bendtner can beat his Man. So can Theo. Bendtner can put a cross in. So can Theo.

As i said…Bar the defensive role…there is little or nothing to suggest he is any better than Theo on the right..or centrally for that matter…And it is certainly ridiculous to claim Theo is weak infront of goal given his age and the chances he’s had 1-1…nothing close to Bendy.

  59. Pedro

David, I think Rohan has made some valid points… it doesn’t matter that he’s a teenager.

Mayank… he was a one off… Quasar had talent, but he didn’t have productivity… I think he flopped at Barca, then everywhere else he went after really.

If Wenger had had him on our books, I’m sure it would have been a different story…

I don’t think Theo has the same sort of talent as players like Messi, Ronaldo and Jack… or even Vela really. He is a pace and power winger… or an owen type striker…

  60. David

    Skandi

Well said. Very well said. Im sure Cesc misses playing with theo as well…those thru balls and his pace are the reason why we break teams down so early.

  61. Pedro

I’m being unfair on the young man… I just don’t think he merited a massive pay hike for what he’s delivered in the last year… he’s not really pushed on as I’d hoped.

Still young enough to improve of course… I hope he proves me wrong this year.

  62. Mayank

Pedro, owen won the Ballon D’or.
In football all that really matters is your end product and who knows that better than gooners. Ronaldo for all his skill still scores goals most of which are poacher’s goals. He rarely gets past his man by dribbling and scores. His tricks although nice to watch are not really that useful. What makes him effective is his shot, his pace and power and his overall hunger. All 3 are qualities which theo can acquire or has.

  63. Pedro

Ronaldo can take the ball around players Mayank! 40 goals a season definitely won him the award…

If Theo ever does that, I’ll be supremely impressed… not sure he has the natural instinct for that though.

  64. Mayank

As for his wasges if JS park can pull 60 so can he. Also i think wages are evaluated on ROI, walcott is very marketable so will always earn a bit higher than he deserves.

  65. Pedro

David, you see Bendtner scoring a goal against Portugal as a weakness… you’re not rational in your analysis, so it doesn’t really matter what you say about him…

  66. David

Yes because Theo getting the ball caught under his feet at the age of 18 is the end of the world…but Bendy at 21 cant score from 2 inches to the post. Brilliant.

  67. Mayank

40 goals do not directly merit the golden ball, it was the fact that he led/helped utd to the PL + CL trophy that got him the award. In my eyes he became more effective when he stopped trying to beat his man every time and applied himself to being useful to the team. His hunger is his biggest asset.

  68. Pedro

Mayank, I’m aware there was some success that went behind the goals… but lets be honest, if anyone had got 40 goals for a champions league club in a season… they’d be considered…

  69. Gunnersmith

And now the 34-year-old feels enough is enough. He said: “There has been far too much talk about diving.

    -Beckham

  70. David

I also said that he was shite bar the goal much like Ade was. Still dont see how that is a weakness. It was a good goal.

Well then Pedro we are watching a different Theo…because if thats the case Bendy always misses infront of goal. See how silly that sounds?

  71. Pedro

David… this is like arguing with someone who has alzeihmers…

Remember earlier… I said he was arguably as bad in front of goal as Nik?

  72. Mayank

Sorry Ronaldo’s my Song/Nik i just can’t ever rate him, i just don’t think he’s all he’s made out to be. Henry Bergkamp Vieira now these were golden ball winners. Too bad we never did the CL with them they’d have definitely won it then.

  73. Pedro

Mayank… I thought there was a bit of an anti English thing going on there… it was like you couldn’t win that award unless you were from Spain or Italy.

How Thierry never won it was a disgrace!

  74. David

    Oh sry Pedro

I thot we had already finalized that that argument was bollocks. Ok lemme see how many misses has theo had 2inches from the goal? Hmmm. how many double misses? How many 1-1 chances with the keeper? Oh how bout my personal favorite stoping a sure goal on the touch line….really…Im trying hard to see where he is just as bad as Nikk is infront of goal. Thats quite amazing really.

And the whole goal against Portugal thing doesnt prove anything because as i said earlier…You should be an Ade fan.

  75. Pedro

David… you do a very good job of unravelling your arguments all by yourself…

You don’t have stats for any of the stuff you just ranted off about… it’s just an irrational rant that can’t be quantified…

  76. David

    ROFL.

Yes. When all else fails…lets resort to stats…VIVA DENILSON

Touche Pedro. You dont have stats to convince anyone Theo is just as bad infront of goal

  77. David

Working hard for the team? You mean when he got injured running to chase a ball working hard for the team against spurs? Sorry? And scoring 7goals in 6games fresh back from injury?

  78. Pedro

David… you just told me a whole raft of things that you can’t prove, not the other way around… if you want to make unsubstantiated accusations, you have to back them up… I didn’t make any statements like that, so I’m afraid the onus is on you.

  79. Pedro

David, I don’t think you class a footballer running for a ball as working hard for the team… that really is an interesting thing to say.

  80. David

What cant i prove? You mean the Bendtner misses? Do you really want me to go and find all those misses? Im sorry what exactly cant i prove? I dont need to prove anything. Bendy missed all those chances…but i can go find them if you like.

What you cant Prove is that Theo is just as bad..or half as bad. Fact.

  81. Stu

Well Ade done his hamstring running, not because of fatigue because it was like 20 minutes in. He defo wasnt over worked either. IMO he got injured because his muscles werent fully warmed up….because he is lazy hahahahahahahaha aaahahahaahahaha lazy fucker!

  82. Big Raddy

    IMHO

Ronaldo is a fantastic player,. There is a reason why he is cost €25m more than Kaka who is also a brilliant player.

Bendtner has massive potential an is already an established International. He was not lying when he stated that top foreign teams coveted him. David’s bias does not change the facts.

Theo is quality and prior to injury had established himself as a first choice England senior international at an age when he can still play for the U-21′s. Capello is no fool & if Fabio rates Theo, you can be sure that Theo is a fine player.

  83. Pedro

Stu, I must say that was one of the most ridiculous points I’ve read in while… Ade injured himself working hard for the team… dear oh dear…

  84. Gunnersmith

Walcott is just as shit in front of goal as bendtner last season against chelsea he blew away ocean of chances for us to take the lead before the chavs thrashed us we could’ve been four or five up before the chavs scored and again i could remember against Valencia he threw away a sitter for us to take the lead

Walcott is no doubt a fantastic talent but he’s not there yet and i’ll play wilshere before him

  85. David

hahahahahah 46% of ALL shots on target! WOW he must be PELE! Where are those stats from pray tell?

And ofcoarse Ade hurt his hammy working like a dog as the lone striker…something nobody at the club can seem to do.

  86. David

Yes..Pedro…thats fantastic given the fact that Bendy has played more minutes than both Ade and Theo…and as such those “stats” mean absolutely nothing.

I watched the whole of the Denmark v Portugal game and NB was outstanding. His ball retention was great, his hold-up play allowed the MF’s time to join the attacks, and he defended from the front. He scored an belter of a goal against what was effectively Chelsea’s defence.

Morten Olsen made NB the fulcrum of the team and he delivered.

Is he a left/right winger?? Of course not, but he is no pony as David insists

  88. Pedro

David, the point wasn’t about proving Nik is Pele… the point was you told me I couldn’t prove Theo was worse in front of goal than Nik… and by the looks of it, I just did.

    Fact.

  89. Pedro

Raddy… thank you for telling us what we all guessed might be true.

I knew something was fishy when David told us Nik scored from a counter attack.

Good to hear an opinion from someone I know wouldn’t give anything other than an honest assessment of a player.

  90. David

How anybody can say Nikk was outstanding in that game is comical. Hold up play? How can he hold up the play when half the time he was on the floor? Are you kidding?

It’s not the matter of fucken proven international its what you and i see on the pitch wilshere is a naturally talented player skillful ‘messiesque’ compared to walcott who offers nothing but speed for most part of our champions league semi final quest walcott was relatively anonymous he doesn’t have the ability to impose himself in games unlike wilshere who is superb and gifted

he’s goal against rangers was fantastic walcott will never dream of scoring that in 4 years

I dont think Theo qualifies as a proven international yet. How many games has he played for England and he hasnt been consistent for them has he? Therefore not proved.

I dont understand how you are willing to be patient with Bendy and not Walcott…he gets the ball stuck under his feet but surely that will not continue his whole career? And then you said it was because you didnt see what he had done to deserve a contract new contract (*cough* Denilson, Bendy) and yet you are willing to be more patient with Bendy?

I dont quite understand it. He’s an Arsenal player. He’s talented. He’s young he’s English.
You think getting the ball stuck under your feet is impossible to correct and which player doesnt lose the ball as if Bendy isnt doubly guilty of it as well.
