Superstar possibly on radar / Defender misery… / Takeover nearing!

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Morning Grovers! So a weekend where I managed to avoid the chore of international football… well, bar the Wayne Rooney incident. I find it amazing that so many people are surprised the English media don’t report heavily on diving incidents committed by our own players… well people, let me enlighten you…

Slagging your own off doesn’t sell papers

It’s not racism or xenophobia… it’s marketing.

Graham Poll makes a weak point about Rooney… ‘don’t label him a diver before a World Cup because refs might take that into account when making a decision’… is the jist of his article. Graham, you’ve got to nail the problem at the root cause… don’t dive and people wont label.

So more injury disasters for JD… he’s out for six months after complaining of a knee injury last month. I’m a bit shocked that we didn’t sign an emergency defender before the window closed becasue I’m sure our medical staff were aware of the ramifications if the Swiss centre back was lost to a cartilage operation. We’re now in a situation where if we lose one of our main men, we’re looking at pulling a player out of a position he’s doing well in, to play him in a position we have no idea how well he’ll do in. Or alternatively, sticking Senderos or Silvestre in as back up… not title contending options really.

In other news, Arsene Wenger has expressed his admiration for Ballotelli… the extremely talented Italian youngster. He has had attitude problems at Inter Milan and nearly went on loan to West Ham for the season… maybe there will be a bid launched at some time in the future if he doesn’t settle in under Jose. Arsene seems to specialise in calming players with a poor attitude to the game.

I was reading about Chavski’s failing youth set up yesterday on the train. They’ve spent something in the region of £62million in the last few season luring top talent from around the world in the hope they can produce a John Terry type player… can you believe that sum? Spending that much money defeats the object of a youth set up for me. I reckon if you spent that much money buying players from the championship you’d have more luck unearthing a gem. I do wonder why Arsenal never look down there for players… Shawcross, Turner and Lescott have all done pretty well in the Premiership and all cost minimal money in fees. Sometimes I think we miss a trick…

Before I go, a story which received minimal coverage last week was the one about Usmanov being very near a full take over of the club. Who takes over the club bothers me little… no one made a billion being a nice guy and no one takes over a club with a view to destroying it. The only way you make a return on £400million is by maximising revenue… the only way to do that in football is by making your club the most successful one… interesting times ahead I feel!

Anyway… have a great Monday, see you in the comments!

    * = Players on the B List. Clubs are allowed to submit an A List and a B List, both equally eligible for selection for games. Regulations mean the A List consists of the majority of the first team squad while young players who have been at Arsenal for a period of time comprise List B.

  2. Stu

I think its more that people dont know what Theo has done to deserve a contract worth 60k a week. Not that he didnt deserve a contract at all.

  3. David

And he’s had more oppurtunities to prove himself. And so far seems like im winning the argument. Why do you think Arsene plays Bendy out wide?

  4. Test

Theyre totally different types of player, neither of which are anywhere near the finished article.

Bendy is total shit up top on his own, and I dont want to hear about him playing behind the striker. All we need is a 6’4 bergkamp.

Theo is a headless chicken who has the football brain of tony daley.

Neither player is anywhere near utilizing their assests to their best advantage.

Bendy thinks hes pele, theo is far too modest.

If you combined the two of them you could get one average player.

and the reason I said what I said pedro is because if neither of them play…………….drum roll please………….

    EBOUE STARTS!

    lol

    Square root of fuck all.

  5. Jaguar

Theo would have been one of the most clinical finishers in the world, had Mr.Wenger not tinkered his playing style to suit his crazy whims and fancies,by drafting him in the wings.Well,Nikki B is on Theo’s way.

The successful converstion of a Thierry Henry or Robert Pires, doesnt mean that, you can convery every winger to a striker,or a right back to a winger and others.

  6. Pedro

David… sorry, I missed where you started winning the argument?

Wenger is playing him wide up top because there is only one central role in his 4-3-3… more to the point, why doesn’t he play Theo as a central striker?

You really can’t use the ‘he’s younger’ argument when there is only a year between them… it really is a minimal gap.

  7. Stu

Bendtner plays out wide because VP plays in the middle. Neither of which i agree with.

Eboue started 1 important game. Why? Nobody knows. But Eboue isnt a starter imo. 1 game doesnt mean he is.

  8. David

Wenger plays Bendy out wide because he’s shite in the central role. For club and country. And distinctively average on the right. Wonder why he got dropped for the Manure game.

  9. Test

No pedro, I know what point ur making mate.

My personal preference is theo, bendy has a face I just want to punch just like diaby.

Denilson is sometimes really shit but I never feel the urge to punch him, bendy and diaby could score a hatrick and i would still like to give them a clump.

I felt my lunch coming back up when I saw the “pink boots to be auctioned” headline.

  10. Jaguar

He scored a hatrick playing in a much central role agaibnst Croatia,Gunnersmith.Well,I dont really take into consideration his performance against the German u-21 team, because of his state of mind.

  11. Pedro

Test… David pretty much said Bends was dropped against United because he was shite. So by that logic, was Arshavin dropped for the same reason in the semi?

    Of course not…

The decision was tactical. Maybe Arsene felt Eboue had a great game prior to that one and was inform… or that he could get back and help out defensively…

  12. Gunnersmith

Dave as Pedro said playing Eboue in the midfield ahead of Bendy and wilshere against manc is another error from Wenger’s Book of errors (soon to be published)

  13. David

The FA cup final was all about Project Youth. Wenger wanted to see what his kids were made off. I find it interesting you bring up that game Walcott scores in.

  14. Test

    As I have said before:

People think that Ade had a chip on his shoulder, just wait til bendy (if ever) scores 30 goals in a season. Him and his fucking dad will be banging on about every club in europe. Bendy will be out the door faster than hussain bolt.

Mark these words, write them down, take a photo.

  15. Stu

Actually Theo played right wing/midfield against croatia for his hattrick. Not centrally.

And what was his state of mind against Germany u21s? Playing for both them and the senior side?

  16. Gunnersmith

He didnt play in a central role against croatia he player in beckham’s role as a winger and all his goal were’nt that spectacular and hasnt scored another for england ever since has he?

  17. Pedro

Stu… I was going to say the same thing.

It’s interesting even the U21′s don’t play him centrally. He let himself down at that tournament and needs to prove himself this year.

    ————————

Game. Set. Match. And he played Right wing for us in the FA cup final as well.

  19. Stu

2 of Theos goals were across the keeper (one of which probably should have been saved) and the other was a counter attack he was on the end of.

IMO his high wages now are because of that hattrick and the coverage he got for scoring against the fuckers who had wronged the english and stopped them playing in the euros. He is getting 60k or whatever to fend off interest from other big clubs…not because of his contribution to arsenal.

  20. David

    Test

Bendy will never score 30 goals a season. Sadly. For him to do that he’s got to show consistency at the top level and he’s got too many competing for his place atm…and if/when we sign Chamakh……..

  21. Test

I personally would play Vela more than the two of them. I think given 1 season Vela would develop into a real class act. Its always wishful thinking though Vela Ramsey Wilshire will all get splinters on their arse while Eboue and Diaby will be deployed in attacking positions when/if the injuries kick in.

BTW in case none of you have noticed my early season optimism ;-) has gone with the wind. If we lose to citeh I will become insufferable.

  22. David

I asked you why Bendy was dropped on the right for the Manure Game….and you brought up the FA cup final which incidentally. Walcott scores playing in that position.

  23. Pedro

David… you really struggle to follow a thread don’t you?

I made a completely different point about the FA Cup SEMI final.

You’re now trying to win debates that aren’t even going on?

  24. Test

Also have you noticed how we always discuss the merits of two shit players which we are divided on:

    Senderos – Djorou

    Song – Denilson

    Bendy – Brain dead

    Almunia – Fabianski

Diaby – i ran out of people but couldnt leave diaby out of a list of cunts on the grounds of principle.

  25. Stu

David siggested Bendtner was dropped for the man u game because he is shite. And Pedro used Arshavin being dropped for the FA cup semi as proof that players dont get dropped because they are shite.

And then it all got out of hand from there.

  26. David

What in Gods name are you talking about?

Have we not been comparing Theo to Bendtner this last hour?

You were trying to make a diffferent point fair enough and im trying to prove a point using your own argument….maybe you would see things a bit clearer?

  27. Gunnersmith

Bendy is actually better than walcott on the wungs noy far better but still better walcott pace might come in handy sometime though but sometimes during matches i wonder if walcott is still on the pitch

  28. Test

I think until we see theo play on the right of a 433 this whole point is moot.

God didnt create 6’3 people to play wide right, Arsene doesnt know – GOD KNOWS.

  29. Pedro

David, the debate was about you stating that I couldn’t prove Bendtner was better in front of goal than Theo… and I did.

I don’t recall ever making statements about Nik being a better wide man… because he is a centre forward in every sense of the word.

  30. Test

If I get on the underground tomorrow and cheryl cole was there naked I wouldnt look twice. What the fuck is all the fuss about? I really dont get it.

  31. David

Oh right…I thought i had pointed out earlier that it didnt make sense to comapare them because they played different positions…and you should loook at bendy’s stats when he started playing the wide position..

    ================================
    David Says:
September 7, 2009 at 19:45…i think its silly to compare Theo’s goal scoring to Bendy just giving the chances Bendy has had alone in the central position.

  32. Gunnersmith

Dave are you watching the US open?

Cos i don’t find it boring in fact i was happy i got tennis to watch before the Saturday’s game

  33. David

    David Says:

Nikk has played in the wide position since Liverpool away last year.

So how many goals did he bag in for the club since then?

    —————-

Funny how people ignore points and stick to arguments theyve made up in their head.

  34. choy

Fack… you guys are still talking about nikki b and theo!!!

If vela got the same game time as both of them.. we would probably have a world class striker.

  35. David

Im wathcing Oduo vs Petroya…its alright…but one week and no footy is a hard ask. Especially since its been a long difficult typical Arsenal summer.

  36. Himpressive

Hey guys….Is it just me that thinks there’s something fishy about all three of City’s strikers picking up “knocks” and not available for the international games midweek?
Adebayor out with a hammy, Tevez out with a knee injury and Robinho out with a supposed thigh strain… hmmmmm

  37. Gunnersmith

Too bad then cos i’m a Federer fan and he’s on right now he’s a joy to watch much like a midfield of

    Nasri Fab Rosicky

  38. Test

I was looking at sky sports wags list. Tweedy is no2 and there are some blatant supermodel looking women who are behind her.

I am a beliver that you can find good looking 5’3 women all over the place but finding a 5’11 stunner is far more difficult.

    I shit cheryl tweedy.

  39. David

    ROFL GS

I think you know Nadal is better than Federer…

    Humpressive

I watched the Togo game…i think he was injured for real. Been what ive been trying to say all day but some people cant leave the Bendy discussions alone!

I think Ade is really injured tho…he certainly looked it…and i dont think Togo play this wednesday anyways.

  40. Stu

I agree there are better lookers out there Test but she isnt bad by any means.

She would be perfect if she was smarter and didnt talk with that shit accent and…well..you know…wasnt married to that thing.

  41. Test

I missed mock the week and panorama sitting in front of this pc for no reason. I think I am falling in love with franchises mustache

  42. Test

Darren Brown is going to predict the 6 balls that come out of the national lottery machine before it happens, cause if you had this power instead of just buying a ticket and winning £6m you would do a show for C4 and get £50,000.

Sometimes my bullshitometer needs a break.

    I need a holiday.

  43. Stu

Yeah i heard aout that. BBC or ITV or whoever he is doing it for forbid …forbayed…whatever it is..they wont allow him to buy a ticket.

Hes a dumbass if he gets it right.

  44. Jaguar

If vela got the same game time as both of them.. we
would probably have a world class striker

    ——————————————————-

Choy, mate, you know the answer, dont ya.Because Vela is not Arsene’s prodigal son like Diaby/Eboue/Shitvestre.People go on ranting about how Mr.Wenger had turned around the fortunes of one Henry,Pires and some others. But they never talk about a striker called Theo Walcott, and another right back called Eboue, who doesnt know his playing position. The hypocrite didnt offer two year contracts to a legend from Brazil, who played his heart out for us(because of his ludicrous age policies),but recruited a waste of space called Shitvestre,on a two year contract.

    GOOD MORNING TO YOU ALL….

I AM ON TOP OF THE WORLD THIS MORNING…BRIGHT SUNSHINE HERE IN NAIROBI!!

THIS MIGHT BE THE START OF BRIGHTER DAYS TO COME AHEAD…ESPECIALLY FOR ARSENAL.

WE WIN 3-0 ON SATURDAY AT MAN CITY.

  46. charybdis1966

God Morgon all, and ArsenalKenya – I like your optimism, it’s a refreshing change.
Here in Blighty it’s overcast and dull, but a win on Saturday will brighten all our lives.

  47. Keith

    Charybdis1966

Well in the South London area it is beautifully sunny and predicted to be a high of 27 degrees today! Your not from up north are you?

  48. charybdis1966

No Keith, I’m in leafy Bucks, about 20 miles west of Ruislip – not north really. Thick cloud with a hint of mugginess – and that’s not just because of all the manks and Chavs round here.

  49. Keith

I am from Orpington area and it is very sunny here although we do also have a lot of Chavs and at times Manks around here-can never understand people from this region wearing their Man U tops, do people really want to constantly look like cunts?
