Take it from me, it’s the older generation!

by & filed under Uncategorized.

As it’s a quiet day, I thought I’d touch on a new subject… Moaning.

Quite often I read about how the new ‘I want it now’ generation are responsible for the pessimism in the ground… this new breed of sports fan who demand the best and nothing but the best, have no time for a little ‘youth project’ in their lives… and vocally make their points known within the stadium. Spoilt brat kids who don’t know they were born… you know the type… kids who didn’t know what it was like to watch football in the eighties… kids who are more interested in their iphones than what’s happening on the football pitch…

Possible nouveau ticket holder after a Nik B miss?

Possible nouveau ticket holder after a Nik B miss?

Well today people… I’m here to battle the young’uns corner!

I’ve sat all over the post in my short 15 year career as an Arsenal regular. West lower, West Upper, North Bank, Corporate Boxes, Orange Quadrant, Club Level… East stand… so on and so forth…

One thing I’ve always noticed is that if there is anyone who is going to moan at a football match, it is quite often someone who was possibly in the stands as a regular in the sixties… it’s quite often a group of long term season ticket holders who’ve always sat together and are never happy with anything… Now this isn’t meant as a disrespectful piece here… all I am pointing out is that the obvious people to blame for groaning and moaning in the stadium are the kids… I put it to you, the season ticket holder to tell me otherwise, but I usually find it’s elder statesmen of stadium doing the moaning!

Like I say, this piece isn’t meant to offend… it’s merely there to ask a question… am I the only one who notices this?!

See you in the comments!

Yeah Baxter, Bordeaux have said repeatedly they’re willing to sell, they don’t need to replace him if he leaves, they’ve been planning for him to leave all summer.

Likewise St Etienne bought Matuidi’s replacement in Gelson Fernandes at the start of July, so they’ve planned for his departure as well.

I’m sure neither clubs would mind having the players stay, but neither need to replace them if they leave, because they’ve been planning for life without them all summer, so not giving them time to replace them wouldn’t be an issue in the slightest

  2. Gooner_b11

NO! it doesn’t, they’ve obviously appealed to uefa, because bank holidays aren’t working/business days……TRUST ME ON THIS!

  3. Gooner_b11

so if arsenal want to buy matuidi….chamakh, lol even vieira they’re doing the deals now! or not at all come 00:00 tonight…..simples

  4. A

b11 you shouldn’t trust ANYTHING you hear on Talksport!! In fact no self respecting football fan should ever tune in to that toilet of a radio station.

Even if the transfer deadline elsewhere is midnight, clubs in England can still sign players from outside England, it would just mean clubs elsewhere in Europe can’t sign anyone. The transfer window only restricts the buying clubs, not the selling clubs

  5. dennisdamenace

I can’t vouch for an English club selling to a European club, but if a European club sells to an English club, it’s the registration of that player that is the issue, therefore when a new player joins an English club his registration has to be in place by 1700 UK time tomorrow….

  6. Gooner_b11

altho….if i remember the 1st of feb started on a sunday and so the transfer windown finished on a snowy monday 17:00 2nd feb when we got arshavin

  7. Gooner_b11

A….i’ll rather listen to an agent doing deals than you who is chatting to me on here, as much we all love ya, you can’t sign me a centre forward from across europe mate

  8. Franchise

st etienne play 3 in midfield with gelson fernandes, matuidi and payet

matuidi has played all 360 mins in the 4 st etienne league games so far

bordeaux play 442 with cavenaghi and chamakh up front. chamakh has played all 90mins unless in their 4-0 drubbing of nice where he was subbed on 74 mins

they only have 4 strikers cavenaghi, chamakh, bellion and saivet

no way they would sell chamakh

  9. A

Exactly DDM – If the deadline elsewhere in Europe is midnight tonight, then it just means that the clubs within those restrictions can’t sign anyone, there are NO restrictions on clubs selling players, as shown by clubs in countries not governed by the same windows, like in South America signing players from the prem outside of our transfer window

  10. A

Franchise Bordeaux have repeatedly stated that they’ll sell Chamakh to any top team who comes in for him.

Matuidi will play whilst he’s at the club, but they’ve already signed Gelson as a potential replacement for him, and have said they’ll accept an offer for him.

Both clubs thought about and are ok with the players leaving even though they’d like to keep them, they won’t put up much of a fight if they get offers, but I’m still not sure either will happen.

  11. dennisdamenace

You know if AW is definitely going to use Song as another CB, then he must surely be looking at recruiting another CMer…..

  12. Franchise

A that was weeks if not months ago

bordeaux wont sell chamakh makes no sense

they wont go into CL with cavenaghi, bellion and saivet who is only 18 as their only 3 CFs

clubs dont exist for arsenal fc u know

the money is useful to bordeaux only if they have time to replace

they wld allow him run his contract down

  13. A

    That’s what I’m thinking DDM

Not necessarily b11, but it isn’t out of the question, and English clubs will bring in players from outside of England!

Didn’t think much of the Mirror article earlier “10 deals we expect to happen on deadline day” but of the ten Turner and Da Costa have already happened, and Villa have officially bidded for Collins. Still feel like the Matuidi to us and Ribery to Madrid talk look like two just thrown on at the end, but you never know!

  14. A

Have to wait and see Franchise, Bordeaux may well have someone else lined up if a bid comes in for Chamakh.

It isn’t just a case of them letting his contract run down, that would be a short sighted way of looking at things, because even if they failed to use the money to replace him now, in the long run if they didn’t sell him now, then they’ll never get that money to replace him….

  15. patthegooner

I guess it depends on the financial situation at Bordeuax.

Is Chamakh’s contribution to their season worth more than the 7m it will take to prise him away. If his goals and assists get them to the later stages of the Champions League, they can probably write him off as a free transfer next summer.

It is what frustrates me about Arsene. Could that extra 1 or 2m that Liverpool wanted for Alonso have been cancelled out by addition prize money earnt by Arsenal last summer with his contribution? I guess we will never know

I still think both Chamakh and Matuidi will be in tomorrow. Chamakh the most likely as Matuidi is still tied into a contract and could well be worth double his current value next summer. Again that is what I did not understand about Alonso. Why would his value go down on Deadline day, it showed our desperation to be bidding for him, so why did we gamble on trying to get him for a knockdown fee so late in the day?

  16. patthegooner

This Arshavin injury is a bit of a concern. Could that be the excuse to get Chamakh in now???? That will be Arshavin, Vela and Theo out as attacking options and means with the 4-3-3 all your strikers are on the pitch from the off.

  17. choy

could explain the low profile of our russian.. pat…

however don’t think wenger would agree about new faces…

  18. A

pat vela and theo will be back by the end of the international break, and we wouldn’t sign someone just because of a small injury! Still think Chamakh isn’t necessarily out of the question though.

  19. patthegooner

A you never know with us, Groins can be tricky.

Are Vela and Theo back that quick? I thought Theo was out for a while yet. Either way neither of them are near the same level as Arshavin.

  20. A

Yeah groins aren’t serious at all, I wouldn’t bet against Arshavin featuring in one if not both the Russia games. Even if he was out for a while we’d never sign someone because of an injury like that.

Yeah I think Theo should certainly be back in 2 weeks time, he only just missed Utd, and Wenger said Vela was out for 2-3 weeks on Thursday, so he’ll be back shortly after the international break.

With both of them I get the impression that if we were playing games during that period they could have been available for us, but there was no way they were going to be allowed to be risked for their countries when they were they ones who caused the injuries!!

  21. A

Yeah I agree pat, matuidi in and senderos staying or a centre back if he leaves and i’ll be very happy, maybe chamakh as well, and the title’s ours.

Still more likely nothing will happen! Even then though I expect success this season

  22. patthegooner

I am not worried there, Wengers Boss.

I think the two first choice players are already building a formidible partnership and if Senderos stays then having Him, Djourou, and Song at a push as back up is more than adequate cover.

I dont include Silvestre as I can stand the cunt.

  23. A

I was thinking that David – I was only thinking we need to sign a DM because of Song buggering off to the African Nations, but as Cameroon havn’t qualified yet, and there being time in January to sign players before it starts, perhaps Wenger is thinking it would make more sense to wait until then, as if Cameroon don’t qualify a new DM may not be necessary.

  24. reggie57

what happens after the international break when 4-5 players come back crocked and Aw has’nt strengthened the squad cos we have enough in reserve (yeah right)?
I wonder what the excuses will be let me guess
    1) we lacked expierence
    2)we was a bit short
    3)I beleive in this team
    4)we showed great spirit
    5)Deja Vu

  25. charybdis1966

Anyone think that Rosicky will probably come back from international duty crocked ?
I suspect that will be the case, then we probably won’t see him play for us till October.
All this negative talk from reminds me – has Jimbo been back since we lost on Saturday ?

  26. Gooner_b11

i can’t see how anybody thinking senderos staying is a good thing? a player who really isn’t in wengers plans

  27. A

probably bbk, i doubt there’ll be many players in the world who won’t be!

Very worried about the international break, Cesc, Rosicky, Arshavin in particular

  28. A

b11 it will be interesting if he doesn’t go anywhere what happens with him, imo he should be our 3rd choice centre back if he stays, ahead of jd and silvestre, but if wenger doesn’t consider him in his plans maybe he’ll be 6th choice behind jd, silvestre, and song?!

that’s ridiculous bbk – just when he’s gotten over his serious injury problem that could have ended his career?! His injury is over, the niggles now aren’t a big deal, and Arshavin was his replacement, as Wenger stated.

  29. A

someone else put it earlier bbk, same as mine would be

    almunia

    sagna gallas vermaelen clichy

    song cesc

    eduardo rosicky arshavin

    vp

though loads of rotation, bendtner, theo, vela, nasri, denilson, eboue, gibbs would play alot too depending on the opposition

  30. Gooner_b11

football is essentially about two factors….

    1) your ability to keep the ball out of the back of your net, and how many goals you score efficiently

    2) under pressure, how many world class players (match winners), disiplined players and liabilities you have, senderos, silvestre, diaby, almunia are liabilities under pressure they drop the batton no matter how good or vieira like they look (even djorou and eboue are boder line) the minute we move on the liabilities the minute arsenal will prosper, because agaist united we looked really good, take away the boys the dropped batton and spoiled it for everyone

  31. A

    that’s

    ———-almunia———-

    sagna-gallas-vermaelen-clichy

    ———song-cesc———

    eduardo—rosicky—arshavin

    ————-vp————-

    what about you?

  32. leon

    a

i know everybody wants to see dm player but right now i dont think there to many top class players out there in that position viera is dieing breed and i think wenger will try to get a player but if he cant i feel he will use nasri or delinson and look again in january another striker would not hurt either,i am too woried about the loss we were without vela, theo, nasri, risicky and fab that alot of attacking options missing and the team still played well

  33. Gooner_b11

i’m not sure about v.persie uptop long term tho, it aint working, we look good from defence to midfield but but the forward line aint working, other than arshavins ability to do something magical

  34. A

b11 being composed under pressure isn’t the same as being world class. Villa were very good in that situation last season, they don’t have a single world class player.

We had a problem with holding onto leads last couple of seasons in the big games, saturday was different to previous examples, but the same result, we’ll have to wait and see whether it was just freak bad luck that made almunia and diaby throw the clangers they did, or whether it’ll happen regularly this season.

last time we won a trophy senderos was one of our most important players in an absolutely superb performance holding onto the lead and keeping utd out, likewise last time we got to a big final, he was superb all the way through in big match after big match.

He had an absolute mare against liverpool, and a couple of times agaist drogba, but was solid in far more big games than he was poor in, but people just remember the shockers he had, forget the games he was faultless.

  35. Alex

So Rosicky is gonna play for czech and cesc has been included in the squad for spain. i think Arshavin is not gonna travel to russia so thats good, walcott aswell not in squad. Songs back in cameroon squad i think. How many injuries will we get? at least 2 im guessing

  36. A

david they’re currently far from guaranteed qualification in their group

bbk i know, i only put rosicky in because you said if everyone was fit, otherwise swap him for nasri and it’s a more realistic first eleven game in game out.

leon i agree, there aren’t that many about, but a matuidi would do a treat imo

b11 i disagree, i like the way the attack is designed to work, and feel the team will really grow into it, expecially when theo or vela are involved as well, also when arshavin is fit, seems we’ve been playing with him buggered which is why he hasn’t been great.

  37. Gooner_b11

that’s why i also included disiplined in there aswell A, as for aston villa they simply didn’t have the know how. that’s why they capitulated, dropping the batton in an arsenal united chelsea and liverpool game isn’t the same as the pressure of entering the last 12games (the home straight) of the league

last 12games from february is where medals are handed out and survival is crucial, the league cranks up another level (why else did we fail to win the league 2years ago….know how! aston villa never had just as spurs never had that bottle, villa weren’t dropping clangers, they just became conscious they were flying and that can causes dizzy heights

  38. Maciek

    Reddie:
    - the desire is there,
    - I belive in this group of players,
    - You could see that we have been jaded,
    - overall….
    - We have shown our hunger,
    - we were nlucky,
    - sometimes is better not to buy,
    - they said to me : buy,buy,buy, and when I didn’t , they have said : bye,bye,bye.
    And many more.

  39. leon

    a

it depends on his price tag i dought wenger will be willing to pay more 5 mill but it would be nice to get him

  40. A

I don’t consider them to have failed under the pressure b11, they just thought they were better than they were, so their tactics changed. o’neil was to blame as much as anyone else. They overachieved massively because they played anti-football, then started to believe the hype, tried to actually compete with sides on footballing terms, and were found out.

look at teams like the greece side who won the euros – you don’t have to be world class to be solid and difficult to break down, or be composed under pressure.

  41. Gooner_b11

and also villa were there because we were playing so badly….it was by defult, but they did have a team/squad of disciplined players, and hardly any liabilities.

everyone forgets it was only because we had arshavin and fabragas coming back essentially that’s why we started coasting it into fouth by march

  42. A

i know what you mean though b11 – last season the season before we capitulated under pressure, panicked and looked petrified, but on saturday we looked very solid all game, didn’t give them a sniff, but individual errors cost us. That won’t be a regular occurence, how many times has diaby scored an og like that in his entire career?! Likewise whilst not amazing almunia hasn’t made many clangers like that

  43. incesc

    A

its not the first time almunia has cost us thegame against man u

i think its like the 4th time hes fucked up against man u.

but i guess we are stuck with him, i dont mind him really. we have to face it, wenger wont spend cash on a keeper

  44. Gooner_b11

yeah but A Almunia is a our no1….and he has got many more clanggers in him, if almunia needs a jens lehmann to be putting a rocket up is backside for a whole season to stay focused then he’s a number two, the best keepers stay focused regardless

i know that defeats the pressure talk but goalkeepers are weird like that

  45. Faceman

yup almunis fucked up back at highbury against manure about 5 years ago

always that mistake in his game, he is just shy of being a very top class keeper.

  46. Faceman

tbf almunia has pissed me off

done too much mouthing off in the press all summer about us needing more experienced players

and then he goes and does an immature, inexperienced fuck up like that?

  47. A

i agree that almunia has mistakes in him, but he’s had more games against big teams where he’s been ok, than the ones he’s been shocking. fabianski will take over sooner rather than later anyways! His injury is very annoying though

  48. Gooner_b11

is it me or do think fabianski’s much of the same really?

like our centrebacks i think it’s better to get a goalkeeping education elsewhere, and move to arsenal later rather than sooner

  49. incesc

anyone think we will actually make a signing

    its pretty disgraceful really

if this season goes wrong and we already are sinking under the predictable mountain of injuries, wenger will be crucified.

  50. Stu

Fabianski and almunia couldnt be more different imo…

Fabianski is wild and erratic but has amazing talent.
Almunia is the safe option, timid and quiet but incapable of pulling off the spectcular.

  51. incesc

the team has some great elements but at the end of last season it was obvious we needed a major overhaul

we got the centre back nice and early then that was that

  52. A

yep agree face/stu, though i expected fabianski to take over from almunia last season, it’s taken much longer than i anticipated, and it’s certainly not helped his getting injured this season

  53. incesc

    the side isnt fine faceman

we have nasri, rosicky, fabregas, walcott djourou and arshavin injured

    same old story,

eboue, diaby, denilson, song all playing against man u, and us losing…

  54. A

i don’t agree with that at all incesc, we didn’t need a major overhaul, and it was certainly not obvious we did! We just needed to address the defensive frailties, and with a new system and star centre back have attempted to do so, whether or not we’ve succeeded remains to be seen, but currently it’s very promising.

  55. A

incesc if eboue, diaby, denilson, song all played against utd, and we outplayed them, i’d say that shows that even with our weakest line up because of loads of injuries, we’re better than the reigning champions!

  56. Faceman

incesc, within 2-3 weeks 80% of the injured will be fully fit

we have a fine squad that could do with one or two additions but on the whole i am more than happy.

  57. incesc

    A

we were humiliated vs man u. the team fell apart then we were humiliated vs chelsea.

we’ve already lost a game and the usual suspects are injured

wenger hasnt bought any player bar 1 defender and if he or gallas gets injured we are stuck with silvestre.

i hope wenger has something up his sleeve tomorrow.

  58. incesc

incesc, within 2-3 weeks 80% of the injured will be fully fit

    ha ha as if

in 2 or 3 weeks rosicky will be injured again and diaby and walcott probably. Oh and gallas and rvp

  59. incesc

who cares if we outplayed man u. we lost.

man u dont care do they

we outplayed them once last season, but we didnt win fuck all

thats because we have a lot of bad players in the squad

  60. zeus

Does anybody know of a striker in the mould of Anelka? To me, thats all we need in the forward line. Some1 big fast and direct. Surely someone like him, but less of a cunt, and unknown is in existence. As goodplaya pointed out recently, ‘arsene should fix the roof while the sun is shining.’

  61. A

transfer window ends in 16 hours luke, plenty of time!

HB not necessarily, he was asked about the reports that we’d almost finalised a deal for him, and wenger said “i deny that”

  62. Honest Bill

I’ve like… got this friend who works as Ivan Gazidis’ hair stylist.. and he told me that…

You know what? I can’t even be bothered

  63. ethangunner

yes song has improved from woeful to useful backup .. can i see him in the midfeild long term ? NO

not if theo- nasri and the Sicky return ..

so songs future if he is to remain content at the club is as a CD , as wenger has already suggested!

to me thats a no brainer . wenger will not have theo-nasri – rosicky on the bench watching song start every game to even consider that is ludicrous .

who knows having the run of injuries we do
song might be able to play the whole season in the midfield .but in the 2nd half he lost it like the others did .. he still has a long way to go .. and we need an experienced player in the role .. well thank fuck another transfer window is coming to a close ..
    ———————————-
    luke id take both ..

  64. zeus

Song in CD a no brainer? Theo, Nasri, Rosicky……which one of them do you entrust to play the anchoring holding midfield role?…………sheesh

  65. LAzer

Bloody hell gents! This the quietest close to a summer transfer window in my recent recollection. Has Abramovich gone bankrupt? Have Manure stopped there free spending ways of late, are pool near bankruptcy? What the fack is going on??

My prediction, le boss springs a suprise or two and we sign something with two legs before 1700 gmt. It is eerily quiet right now, something is brewing I feel.

  66. ikon

It is very tough to compete with Chelsea on papaer at least. It will require most of our players to be at their best to pose any kind of threat to them.

  67. gnarleygeorge9

Adebayor was to quoted to say re the fans

“you try to give them something back,” he said.

Well how about giving back that £80,000/week x 52 the fans helped pay for you parasite.

Is that type of moaning allowed on here ;)

  68. Sabeel Indian Gunner

    luke,seriously man,

there is no point in frustrating ourselves wether we sign anyone or not.

Gunnerblog rightly put that,If wenger cannot get his choice of players he wont buy second best

  69. Sabeel Indian Gunner

infact the Top-4 have shown little transfer activity,
    this window is inflated,

but on deadline day this inflation shouldnot have lot of effect

  70. Sabeel Indian Gunner

gooner-pak…somewhere i read a rumour that chamakh being sighted in london…

    thegoonblog.com mentions it….else nothing new
