So today we put Pompey to the sword + exclusive stadium shot of cannon.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

I can’t remember the last time Portsmouth gave us any real problems, maybe it was in 2004 when we went unbeaten, I seem to remember them giving us a close call at Fratton Park that year.

I fully expect us to start the new season at the Grove with a good old fashioned beating, I expect to see the young kids play, I hope to see Vela, Ramsey, Wilshere and Gibbs and a mixture of Arshavin, Bendtner and Eduardo up front.

It’s a shame about Theo, but if the England stories are true, then Wenger needs to remind the boy who pays his wages. I’ll give you a clue Theo, it’s not Capello.

The atmosphere should be great today with the crowd turning up for the first game of the season full of anticipation and expecting to win the league for the first time in years.

Yes I know a few weeks ago it was gloom and doom… but it’s not often we win our opening game 6-1 away and with the Celtic win, I feel like the England cricket team must feel right now, if we lose this we only have ourselves to blame.

Wenger has a squad and it’s games like this he should use it, maybe he’ll slot Djourou in alongside Vermaelen to give Gallas a breather, I would seriously consider buying Sakho or Taylor and blooding them this season, for those of you that took exception to the boy elbowing Eduardo last season, don’t, that’s just the sort of bloke this team needs, remember the Grimster?

I still think he’ll sign Numbchucks in the next 7 days but I hope upon hope he buys a defensive midfielder, and if that player is Matuidi or Diarra from Madrid then so be it, we need back up and if Song does come on, then he’ll be away in January, so we need options.

Enjoy today because next week it gets considerably tougher.

No silly predictions from me today, but I wouldn’t be surprised is one of the teams at the Grove today gets 5.

Have a great day Grovers!

P.S. Here is a picture of the new Cannon at the stadium if you haven’t seen it already (Cheers Drum4it)… apparently it was going to be Gold until they changed their mind at the last minute. Also, if you haven’t got a ticket for the game yet, I still have spare tickets going in the Exchange.

Looking good.

Looking good.

In other news, it might be worth mentioning that if you find us daily by clicking the link from Goonernew.com, you won’tt be able to do that shortly. They’ve asked us to pay to be aggregated on their site which totally goes against my beliefs regarding the world wide web. Nearly everyone they are hoping to charge creates content for free… so in my eyes, it should be distributed for free… so if you still want a daily does of Le Grove, check out affiliates in the side bar for news aggregation… or sign up to our RSS feed or mailing list.

Not a chance David, yaya is the best DM in the world, Keita is total crap, Busquettes isn’t there yet, still developing. If they’d succeeded in getting Mascherano there might have been a chance of them letting Yaya go, but having failed to get him not a chance in hell.

  2. Confidentgoner

Am not too sure we’ll miss Cesc too much against the big teams. The reason i that the big teams target to mark him out of the match, and stunt us. Ramsey will do well there as well as Diaby.

  3. David

Yaya isnt a Dm….Kietta is…and its clear and obvious that Pep doesnt rate Yaya at all…hence their refusal to give him beyond a 1 year extention for a 25 year old.

  4. Zorr0

I prefer to think he went for a shit, a quiick tot of rum and bend over the communications girl myself.

Footballers, what are they coming to, fucking contact lens, big jessie!

  5. David

The point is….I dont buy that there are no defensive players out there that arent better than what we have…that is rubbish…Wenger just didnt and still doesnt want to spend.

  6. A

Huh David, it’s obvious that Pepe doesn’t rate Yaya, which is why he’ll start every big game for them, and he isn’t a DM, yet plays DM for them?! He’s the best DM in the world, just superb all round player, but in his more disciplined DM role he plays in most games for Barca he’s the best in the world in that role imo.

Kieta barely plays for them, whats the relevance of him being more defensive?! (even though he was more of an offensive mid for seville)

  7. Gunnersmith

    Evening guys,

today’s win was not so convincing our overall display was below average we lack the bite in the middle much like last season i think this is down to the fact that we played a very flexible midfield thank goddness we had put the game beyond pompey’s reach in the last 20 minutes of the game it might have been another disastrous afternoon but who cares we won and that’s all that matter 3 points in the bag bring on the mancs!!!

  8. gazzap

If wenger wanted Matuidi enough he could have got him. Song is not enough – he needs decent backup.

With regards chamakh – it seems wenger wants him but doesn’t want to pay what several other teams including WHU and Sunderland were happy to offer. to me, something is wrong when a top 4 team with £40m in the bank cannot match those offers. we should just have bought chamakh in pre season for whatever it took ie £9-10million.

  9. A

Smith today’s display was one of the most convincing i’ve ever seen in a premiership game. We knew we were going to win easily before we’d even scored, they knew we were going to win easily before the kick off, and the game was played like a testimonial because of that. There was never any chance of a disasterous afternoon, even if they’d scored all their chances, and gallas had been sent off, we still could’ve very easily moved up one or two gears and score goals for fun. If we’d really gone for it today I genuinely believe it would’ve been double figures, there are serious problems at Pompey and we took pity on them/saved ourselves for bigger games

  10. David

    A

At the beginning of the season…Pep preferred and still prefers Basquetes. Why do you think there was so much rumor surrounding his exit?

    Zorr0

    M. Diarra…Sissoko…Matuidi….Mathieu Bodmer

  11. A

gazzap I still expect Matuidi or equivalent to come in last couple of days of the transfer window.

Wenger only wanted Chamakh BECAUSE he was so cheap, he didn’t want him for more money, it isn’t a case of not being able to match the offers, it’s that Wenger doesn’t consider Chamakh to be worth matching the offers.

  12. Gunnersmith

Sure HB it’s not a joke it’s fact we were caught on the counter attack a little too much and our midfield looked too flexible though we kept the ball well but we were easily pushed over in the middle especially in the second half it wouldn’t be that easy against a much tougher opposition

  13. A

David at the beginning of what season?! Yaya was first choice ALL last season, he was almost as integral to their system as xavi and iniesta! They were a midfield three who all worked in their own roles, and if any one of them was missing then they weren’t the same team! Has their season started yet this year?

There were rumours of Yaya leaving because there were rumours of Mascherano joining, it’s as simple as that. One would never have happened without the other.

  14. Zorr0

Diarra has been discussed, back from bad injury and off to ANC.
Sissoko; Please Lyon, can we have your best CM, pretty please with sugar on top!
Matuidi. May be joining, so bear with that one.
    Bodmer. Who knows.

Could Basquets play centre half against Dogbreath in a champions league away semi? No. Could Yaya, oh already did.

  15. Honest Bill

Gunnersmith. Sure we looked a bit lacking at the back on one or two occasions. But that was with Second string fullbacks, and the team never even broke a sweat really. It’s not quite fair to say it wasn’t convincing. By the end we were practically playing a B-Team and still won more than comfortably

  16. A

Yaya was their fans player of the year in 07/08, and was absolutely superb last season as well! There’s no way they would have let him go if they hadn’t gotten Mascherano

  17. A

lol Smith it was less significant than an exhibition match, the performance in either half has precisely no relevance to whether we will or won’t win anything this season, we havn’t played a game like that since the Premiership was formed, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t ever again!

  18. Gunnersmith

i think ramsey need to step up his game if he want to break into the first team he gets caught in possesion quite easily and denilson is just not the answer he was anonymous for most of the game we still need a good DM as song might be off in january or gets injured

  19. A

Gunnersmith where were you sitting today, did people around you consider the game and performances to have significance?!

  20. Honest Bill

I agree about that Gunnersmith, with regard to needing a new holding mid. Hopefully one who is versatile enough to play an attacking role too.

    ================

We can say pretty please with the cherry on top or we can offer 25 million. Either way…All of them are available.

Bohmer was spotted by Wenger in 2005 but was too cheap in his bid….Story sound familiar?

    A.

If you didnt know…Basquetes played ahead of Yaya and was certainly ahead in the pecking order….if he was such a fans favorite why are barca giving the best DM in the world only a 1 year extention….????

  22. gazzap

if wenger wants chamakh then he considers him a player that would improve our squad – he will have watched him 20 times or more. I have not seen the guy play so I am not commenting on whether I want him at Arsenal or not. point is, if wenger has decided, yes I want this player at Arsenal, then he improves our squad.
A player that improves our squad IS worth £10m. any player genuinely worth just £6m is not good enough for Arsenal. he is only worth that much because he is in the last year of contract. so he is probably a £15m player in reality.
But he IS worth £10m if 2 other clubs are offering that much money, and more to the point Arsenal need a forward player.
If you are in the desert and are dehydrated you and I would pay £100 for a bottle of water. wenger wouldn’t!

wenger’s quibbling over a few million here and there I am sure ends up costing us many many premier league points and Champion league wins. those wins are worth far more to us than the few million that wenger quibbles over every summer. Just pay the sodding money!!

  23. Zorr0

A, moany cunts in front of me spent most of the game having a pop at Diaby, Eboue and Bendtner. Some things never change!

  24. choy

Tomas Rosicky has given Arsenal a boost in a week when they are hot favourites to confirm their place in the Champions League group stage.

With a two goal lead from the first leg of their play-off against Celtic at Parkhead, Arsenal seem assured of a place in the next round. And Rosicky is ready to make his return to first team football two weeks ahead of schedule.

Rosicky damaged a hamstring in training to postpone his comeback after 18 months on the sidelines because of a serious thigh injury. It was feared that it would be another fortnight before he could resume training but his recovery has been so rapid that he will return to training on Monday.

  25. Confidentgoner

A, We can agree on Yaya! didn’t know I could say that! We still defensive problems though. Gallas has lost his legs. He was almost beaten by the Lone Pompey striker. We need a defender faster than Gallas, a DM faster than Song who is equally strong, and Chankah will add a lot to our game

  26. A

smith the match wasn’t a proper match, it was less significant than any training session! Pompey didn’t give a shit, and we didn’t know what to do as a result. There was never a tiny bit of doubt that we were going to win, so we just went through the motions, not wanting to tire ourselves out! It was an atmosphere and situation that i’ve never experienced in football before, both in terms of the general atmosphere, and the body language of both sets of players, it wasn’t even like a semi-professional match a lot of the time

  27. Honest Bill

I take your point A. But i wouldn’t say it was of no significance. It was worth three points to us, which we took. That is three points to add to our total at the end of the season. Every match is significant for us and could be the difference between winning the league and finishing empty handed

  28. A

David when did Busquets play ahead of Yaya?! In what big games?! Yaya started almost every game he was available for last season, he only made 2 sub appearances, 23 starts, whereas Busquetts made 16 starts, 8 sub.

They don’t want to give him a long contract because they want to bring through Busquetts, but they gave him an extention because Busquetts isn’t close to Yaya’s level just yet, and as they couldn’t get Mascherano they know they need to keep Yaya to compete. It wasn’t like Yaya’s contract was expired, or even expiring next summer, he had 2 years to run on it, and now has 3….

Apparently Sanchez-Watt is joining JET at blackpool, could both do well in the Championship, send Bartley there too!

  29. Rhyle

Just watching a sky+’d MotD…can’t believe the wanking the commentator was doing during the Wigan / Man Utd match. Fucking disgraceful calling Vidic clumping Rodallega ‘a tap’. Really biased bunch of arse.

  30. Rhyle

Liked Watt when he came on against Rangers, was a great cross for JW’s 2nd. Bit of 1st team action can only be good for him.

  31. A

HB yeah the 3 points is significance, but not one player’s performance holds any significance whatsoever.

Zorro yeah those jeering Bendtner in the area I was in were doing my head in at the end, they’re just idiots.

choy where’s that from?! Great news if he returns.

Confident Gallas has been superb so far this season, and looks very accomplished alongside Vermaelen. Utaka is lightening, there isn’t a centre back around who could keep up with him, the same would have happened to any other centre back from a top 4 club, if not worse.

We do still need recruitment to add depth, but noone is going to arrive and come into the team

  32. David

The fact is that Yaya is surplus to Barca’s plans…and if we bid 25 mill for him….it would be a sure banker.

  33. Rhyle

David – Yaya has recently been given an improved contract and Pep consistently talked about how highly he rated him in the run in last season and in the close season. It comes across to me as though hes very much part of the plans over there.

  34. A

David – how do you not get this?!

Yaya was surplus to requirements IF, and only if, and it was a big if, they got Mascharano!!!! They didn’t get him, therefore there is absolutely no way he’d be allowed to leave, and certainly not for £25 mil! He isn’t surplus to requirements, he’d just be offloaded to make way for Mascharano….

  35. David

Well we can have this debate all day everyday…1 year is hardly an improvement on his contract….we’d be offering him more moeny…and a longer contract….there’s no way to know because we all know Wenger wont bid 25 million even if it was Pele.

  36. A

David he was given a big contract, that was why the contract negotiations took so long, he wanted to be paid closer to the top earners – we’d be paying him less….

I agree though, isn’t going to happen, certainly not this summer as he’s going nowhere, but don’t be surprised if he moves to one of the top teams in Europe next summer for £30 mil plus. He would’ve been awesome for us, but by next summer I expect Song to be considered a top player so we wouldn’t want yaya anymore!

  37. Rhyle

Paul Hart needs to understand two things 1. the offside rule – Diaby was behind the ball when the pass is made to him. ONSIDE. 2. If the Gallas ‘incident’ is a sending off I’m a eight testicled basketball playing pornstar called Magic Eightball.

  38. A

To be fair Rhyle I though it could well have been a sending off, and I wouldn’t have had any argument. If it’d happened against us I would have been livid!

Paul Hart is a funny one, turned up in a really swish suit, walking around the pitch, then changed into his silly rugby shirt and tracky bottoms for the match

  39. Rhyle

I was right by it at the game and didn’t think so, seeing it again on MotD only confirms it.

I have seen ‘em given though A!

Feel better saying this at midnight when there’s not many about…

…but Adebayor looked impressive today from what I’ve seen on the highlights.

  40. Honest Bill

Gallas didn’t foul him, he barely made contact. The guy just triipped.

As for the offside. I think you’ll find he was referring to Eboue when Cesc passed forward. It was very close and could have gone either way in fairness

  41. A

Pat Arshavin was brought in as Rosicky’s replacement, Rosicky is fine anyways, just a niggle, and not related to his big injury, but even if it was, and meant he had to retire, Arshavin was his replacement so we wouldn’t sign anyone I’d very much doubt.

Rhyle I thought it was almost certainly a foul and sending off both in real time at the game, and from the replay, so just difference of opinion!

It really annoys me pundits talking about players tripping themselves up, as if they can’t remember when they used to play, or just run, and if someone trips you just taps you leg it causes you to kick the other leg and take you out, that’s what 90% of trips are, it’s still a foul!

I agree, Ade showed some nice touches, though some horrific ones as well! Still glad we’re rid, if he’d been playing we wouldn’t have scored anything like as many goals this season as a team, even though he might have scored one or two.

  42. Pat

Yea Rhyle? I read he wasn’t all that actually.

It was nice to see Diaby out there today. He is such a talent and if he can work on his flaws, he can become an amazing player

  43. Pat

A, I think we’d get VDV just cause he’s very cheap and worth having given our injury problems every year.

Also, Ade is on a high right now. Just wait when a sticky patch comes along and they’re struggling. Lets see how he does then

  44. Rhyle

Honestly…I thought he was referring to the Eboue to Diaby pass…think Eboue is played onside by Wilson. Got it paused just as Fab is making the pass and, thankfully he’s in the light green and Eboue just onside in the dark, but you’re right it was close.

God bless award winning groundsmen for making that easier to see!

  45. Honest Bill

Yeah Rhyle. That’s why i never liked those pitches with concentric circles and stuff like that. The horizontals play a part in helping the lino for definite

  46. Confidentgoner

Matter of fact, considering th mid we had, I was very satisfied with the pefomance. And very much impressd with Diaby’s game. played very well and didn’t seem to tire. I thought we were overall 7/10 today.

  47. Test

    Yaya……..

2 months ago the only reason Arsenal fans could see Yaya leave the best team in the world to play for us was his brother (utter bollox at the time). Now without the draw of his brother Yaya is going to leave the best club on the planet because Barca dont wont him (putting aside the fact he is a first choice regular), city wont put a bid in for him, united wont put in a bid for him and Arsene is going to smash our transfer record and pay a fee he wouldnt consider for Torres to bring £25m Yaya to the Emirates.

Wait, whats that………….its percy the pig flying past my window.

  48. Rhyle

HB – they look pretty but yeah…doing no one a favour are they!

A – don’t see any intention to play the man and don’t see any contact. It’s a tight run and I don’t see what causes him to go over at all.

What I do understand is Hart’s frustrations. 3 games, 3 defeats. Nothing going right for them.

Poor old Wilson got torn to shreds today. First by Eduardo who did him 3 times with the same trick he used to set up the goal…ball one way, him the other. 3 TIMES! Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me…fool me 3 times? I’ll get subbed, get me coat and get out. Plays Eboue onside for the goal. Not a good day for that man.

  49. Rhyle

So who did people have for MotM? I went for Eduardo at the game, though Ramsey’s performance when he came on has got to push him close (LIVELY, in a word. POSITIVE, in another) and of course Diaby’s two goals were well taken (though I thought he was in and out of the game a bit in the 2nd half).

  50. A

Rhyle there doesn’t have to be any intention to play the man, just some contact, and i’m pretty sure there is some, not 100% though, it’s always hard to know totally in those situations, it only needs the tiniest bit of contact to trip someone.

Yeah Wilson was absolutely attrocious, in the worst team I’ve seen at the Emirates, he succeeded in being even worse than the rest of their players!

  51. Rhyle

For a sending off there has to be intent, even if it’s a clear cut scoring opportunity? Agreed for a foul there doesn’t have to be intent.

Worst team I’ve seen at the Grove? That’d be Derby. Any team that concedes 2 hat tricks to the ‘whore deserves that label. They had nothing to offer, a team of bad players with a couple of barely average ones.

  52. A

Diaby for me Rhyle, Eduardo showed a fair few nice touches, VP too, re-watching the game now I forgot and overlooked alot of good things he did. Noone was awesome for the 90 minutes, but that’s because it wasn’t a proper football game, it just just a mix of training sessions!

  53. A

Rhyle no there doesn’t I don’t think(?) It just has to deny a clear goalscoring opportunity, intent isn’t a pre-requisite for a red card.

Rhyle they weren’t worse than Pompey imo, I’ve never seen players who looked more disinterested than theirs today in any football match at any level, they just didn’t want to be there from before the kick off. We would have gotten double figures if we’d wanted to take them to the sword today, if it mattered, and if there weren’t more important matches coming up that we wanted to save ourselves for.

  54. Rhyle

We were talking on here earlier – very, very weird game. think I used the term ‘friendlier than a friendly, no challenges, no reason to get out of 2nd gear’.

  55. Rhyle

A think intent is where the common sense bit tends to be applied ;)

As for the whose worse debate? Man it’s close! There’d be a few teams from the last 20 years in the mix.

Think Pompey would win the team with the most players scratching their balls for 90 mins award, though. I blame the weather and Niclas Bendtner. It must have been his fault.

  56. incesc

this team with rosicky and nasri in contention could be so awesome

    but we need 2 songs,

we were shit without song today cos there was no defensive midfielder

  57. A

Yeah rhyle, it wasn’t even as competitive as a friendly.

no incesc, we would have won anyways, but we didn’t even play in a competitive football match because pompey didn’t give a shit

  58. A

Rhyle I think alot of people who didn’t go to the game wouldn’t be able to understand just what a strange experience the game was. You’d need to be there, to feel the atmosphere, and more importantly the body language of the players off the ball just wandering around completely disinterested. I’ve never seen anything like it.

  59. incesc

lets not pretend like it was too easy

last year we drew 3 games in a row 0-0 against shit opposition and still made 4th.

our start to the season is awesome

I am the first to say wanger is a dick, if he bought villa to finish all the chances we make instead of rvp we would win the league…

if he had mashpotatoes in there or mascherano we would be much stronger…

  60. Rhyle

Incesc – it’s an observation not a criticism! No one’s playing our good start down, just saying that todays was a very strange game. Pompey didn’t turn up…no…they had a couple of moments but spent most of the game enjoying the sun.

  61. Honest Bill

Still, it’s the big one next weekend. If we can beat United in their own backyard. We will pick up some real momentum, they would drop a valuable three points and we would go to City knowing that we can dominate.

There’s no reason we can’t win it. We have better players than them. Let’s show the mancs that this year we aren’t fucking around.. Remind them that we are Arsenal. A team for them to fear

  62. Rhyle

Anyway gents…bed time. Take it easy and remember…

TOP OF THE LEAGUE. At least for another half a day or so!

  63. Rhyle

I have to say HB today’s 2nd half performance is the only 45 in which Man Utd have impressed and even then they were lucky to have 11 men on the pitch!

Thinking about bitching to the BBC about the atrocious commentating on the Wigan game – could that bloke smoke Fergie’s piece any more? He should be careful he doesn’t choke…

  64. ethangunner

A you could tell by all the seats emptying .
at the 80 minute mark you could just about see the new cannon ..

and there’s nothing strange about it !
youve just forgotten what a WHITE WASH was ,
no ade on the pitch has made us far more of an attacking team and one that moves forward together …

once the subs came in and the job was done people started to leave .

its a luxury wenger couldnt afford to do prior
usually we would be scrapping for a draw or a goal to put us ahead by one …

but one thing is still bothering me and bothered the commentary also last night (day )

11 goals scored 1 by a striker off of a midfielders hit post attempt ..

the strikers as i predicted aren’t good enough ,
dudu is the rest are just making up numbers .

but even dudu is more of a 2nd striker a creator in the box than a clinical finisher .

we need someone to come in who doesnt disrupt the team and yet is hungry to finish ..

and in wengers choice he must be crucial to get the right face in. another ade will kill our play as i always said it did !

and all those people wondering why i had a problem with ade !

WELL YOU CAN SEE WHY NOW CANT YOU !
because we play far better without the twat !

  65. incesc

is anyone elso not that arsed about man u?

    3 points in the bag

im more worried about man city the week after

if ade scores agaist us i might punch myself in the face

  66. Honest Bill

incesc. Ade won’t score against us. He will really try hard, but because he wants it so badly he will choke/ Our defense will not be as generous as Wolves’

  67. Rhyle

Incesc – if you ask nicely I might do it for you…:D Don’t think you’ll have too much to worry about from the ‘whore.

Honestly HB – I hope you’re right. If we get the ‘Ferdinand is so important’ excuses, well…as you’re saying it’ll have been a good day!

Going back to what I was saying earlier 4-3-3 doesn’t seem to be getting the best out of our strikers – few shots, 1 of our 12 goals from them (at this point I would to say again that this is an OBSERVATION and not a CRITICISM).

Ethan – that was a really weird game. Pompey didn’t turn up at all and the crowd picked up on it, the 2nd goal killed the atmosphere as well as Pompey…very, very strange experience – one of the weirdest in my 20 odd years of going.

  68. Honest Bill

Admittedly, watching a low quality stream, i didn’t quite pick up on that atmosphere. Obviously it was clear that they were dejected and not trying very hard, but i didn’t realise the extent of their poor attitude

  69. Rhyle

Incesc – we are in fact the only club Aliadiere scores against…maybe it’ll work in reverse for the ‘whore

  70. Honest Bill

incesc. Yes but Aliaiere is different. he left under different circumstances and had no real reason to want to fuck Arsenal over. This alone will make Ade choke and trip over his own feet and generally run around like a clucking crackhead.

  71. ethangunner

    ryyle

i think the boys have something to prove and pretty hard to prove anything with a team who just doesnt turn up ..

also i put it down to class , we dominated from start to finish , we knew it they knew it and everyone was waiting for the final whistle to blow …

what in your opinion was so weird about it ?
also remember if they have banned beer it might have something to do with it also !

  72. ethangunner

    HB

i think we have more to worry about than ade when we play shitty ..

ade will be the last of our problems playing them.

i think ade will score .. you know he can score when he wants too , he just never WANTED TOO enough when playing for us .

Ethan – it was weird to have a team of complete no shows and incompetents. The crowd picked up on it and there was a weird atmosphere to go with the weird football we saw. Weird is a hard quality to describe.

Everyone was talking about it…why weren’t you? ;)

  74. Rhyle

“Yo baby baby you ever had your asshole licked by a fat man in an overcoat?” may be one of the greatest lines in any film ever. Ever.

Whats the line-up against Celtic and the Mancs if Cesc is injured, which he probably is knowing our luck.

    back 5
    Denilson Song Diaby
    RVP Eduardo Arshavin

I’d like Ramsey there ahead of Denilson, but I don’t see Wenger doing that. If the Rosicky rumor is true, he’d replace Diaby probably.

  76. Rhyle

Just read the BBC.com review of the game and it kinda backs up what we were saying about a weird performance from Pompey…

“They have not won away from home since beating Sunderland on 8 November 2008 and the departures of Glen Johnson, Sean Davis and Peter Crouch have left them looking listless in defence, midfield and attack.”

check my post at 12.37 prior to the game
when have you ever known me to say ‘we will win’ :) ?

yes i knew Portsmouth wouldn’t turn up ..
ive been watching my football ..

if people are mad enough to pay top dollar for a non -event all the more the fools ..

    :)

GG9 – only what Wenger was saying on MotD – hamstring is a bit tight and he’s been carrying it for a little while.

My opinion (although you didn’t ask for it…) is he won’t play on Weds but will be back for the Mancs.

no, where i was watching the game last night we had more of a chance of saying …

‘“Yo baby baby you ever had your asshole licked by a fat man in an overcoat?”’

    :)

  80. ethangunner

oh dear , yes now your going to get everyone loving diaby because he scored 2 times during a training match ..

oh the joy of it ..

i could have scored last night ..
as a matter of fact i did :)

    Was he good looking Ethan?

  82. nishanth

Read it PDT.He is is spot on.We needed depth before. And the situation hasn’t changed one bit.We are couple of injuries away from having mannone and silvestre in the main team.

  83. PDT

Nishant, I like his straight talk. In fact, I think we should hire him right now to replace Pat Rice, when AA23 retires.

David, precisely why we need backup. I think His Thoughtfulness is now trying to push Vassiriki as the replacement for Song with the “he can defend and he can attack” quotes.

Believe me, he will have more to say on the subject in the next few days – expect some references to Nasri also.

  84. David

    Diaby?

    God forbid.

I still think we need a striker…someone with an aeriel threat in him….the DM and a CB….we could use a good winger too.

  85. David

What are your predictions on that Manc Game PDT?

Honestly i think this saturday was more of a formalty than anything…not really anything to be excited about…and i think the same with the Celtic game…our season starts saturday…what are our chances of seeing a signing before then>?

  86. nishanth

I would be happy with a draw against united.I heard vidic should have been fucking sent off today. That would have been great

  87. PDT

The manc game is a tough one, David, especially if Cesc is not available. I said I would be happy if we came out of August with seven points and a CL group stage spot, so all we have to do for me to be happy is draw the next two games.

Of course, in my heart of hearts, I want us to put the mancs to the sword. In Nigel Short’s words, TDF!

I am still very uncomfortable with the 4-3-3 that AW is playing. I think at some point in time, he will revert to type with a 4-4-2 or a 4-5-1 in the Champs League. Maybe, if Cesc is really out, he might go back to a less attacking formation for the Mancs.

  88. PDT

If we can TDF the mancs, then all the teams will be looking over their shoulders. In football, like in every other game, if we can sow the seeds of uncertainty into the opponents’ minds, we are half way there.

The opposition is looking at the table and saying “Oh, but they have only played the two bottom placed teams so far”. The Mancs will be different and a TDF performance will underline our legitimacy at the High Table.

  89. David

Cesc or no Cesc…we have to win that game…that should be our mentality…the wider the gap we can put between ourselves and United…the better….we are flying atm…they are shite….they always start of shite…this is the time to take them….we take care of united…beat liverpool…draw with Chelsea and mop the rest of the muppets and the PL is ours.

But we have to have the “must win” mentality now.

  90. David

Wigan were absolutely crap shite…I mean…look at Rooney’s first….the player marking rooney just watched the goal go in. Pathetic.
