Celtic Fans: Respect? I thought we were playing Plymouth! + Ratings!

I’m not going to give you the highlights of the game, instead, I’ll give you the highlights of the comments sections yesterday.

Roddy Bhoy

I wouldn’t be so cocky lads. In over FORTY odd european games at home only barcelona (twice) and a glitch there a few weeks back against dynamo moscow were the only defeats. Parkhead is a fortress. We have beaten man utd and ac milan recently at home. DO NOT underestimate Celtic… especially in our own back yard. By the way, enjoy the greatest atmosphere of any ground you have ever played at. Good luck… you will need it!

Ha ha ha ha! I almost fell off my seat reading this load of tosh!

You certainly know how to set yourself up for a fall, don’t you?! One freak result against a second rate EPL team and you think you can walk all over a team that has lost just 3 times in 36 home European games. Better (and, significantly, much more experienced) teams than Arsenal have swaggered into Celtic Park, only to leave with their tails tightly tucked between their legs.

If Aiden McGeady and Shaun Maloney can dribble half as well as you spout drivel, then you’ll be back on the Prozac by tomorrow morning.

“We could beat Celtic with our Carling Cup side” you say… well, in the Wembley Cup Celtic’s second team (only 3 of those who started against Aberdeen) beat a Spurs side featuring 11 of the 14 players who beat Liverpool at the weekend. But, you may say, Liverpool aren’t as good as Arsenal. However, they finished some 14 points above Arsenal in the EPL last season!

It is some eight games since Arsenal managed to beat Liverpool, and five games since they beat Spurs. Celtic beat them both by 2-0 in their own cities the last time they played.

Good luck Goners, you’ll need it! Celtic 2 Arsenil 0

Facts – Celtic do not need to fear Arsenal. They have played the likes of Barcelona, Man United, AC Milan etc in recent years and came away with victories or credible results. We have dealt with the likes of Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Pirlo, Inzaghi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Thierry Henry and Rooney so whats another side of multi-millionaires?

Some teams revel in the underdog status and Celtic is no different. Nice to see the usual clueless comments from English football fans in regards to Scottish clubs – how many times have you been made to eat your words? Hopefully it will be another case of you lot crying into your warm pints of pishy ale – I for one will certainly come back onto the site and listen to your bitching and moaning, being stiffled out by the greetin…

Anyway, unlike Arsenal, Celtic are not a selling club. Our players are revered and soiught after by EPL (and foreign) clubs. We are constantly bombarded by stories of teams wanting to sign our players: Artur Boruc (Bayern Munich); Andreas Hinkel (Hull City); Gary Caldwell (Spurs, Wigan, Burnley); Glenn Loovens (Birmingham City); Stephen McManus (Wolves); Lee Naylor (Portsmouth, Birmingham City); Massimo Donati (West Ham, various Serie A teams); Scott Brown (Spurs); Aiden McGeady (Spurs, Hull City, Bayern Munich); Scott McDonald (Hull City).

Of our first choice line-up that only leaves Georgios Samaras and Shaun Maloney that have actually been with us for more than a year. And they both left EPL teams because they wanted to play for a proper big club.

Oh how I enjoyed re-reading those bad boys this morning. To be fair to the Scots, there was a lot of good banter and it was quite fun watching the Grovers sparring with them yesterday morning

The game showed the gulf in class between the Premiership and the SPL. Tony Mowbray has clearly tried to implement his West Brom Blueprint of plenty of pretty football… not much product.

Celtic knocked the ball around very nicely to start with… but for me, it was kind of like watching the remake of a classic film… ok, but not quite as good as watching the original. The original, being Arsenal. We zipped the ball around at a such a frenetic pace, someone on the table next to me genuninely asked if the game was coming through the telly in fast forward. We didn’t carve out an amazing amount of chances, but posession wise we controlled.

The opening goal came from another excellently planned set piece. Cesc whipped the ball onto the back of William Gallas who expertly back-rolled it with enough spin to creep around the keeper. A truly magnificent goal! Song was having another blinder in the middle of the park. His positioning was excellent as he mopped up and distributed with…. yes… I’m going to say it… class and style!

Thomas Vermaelen and Denilson demonstrated some last ditch heroics… Celtic broke quickly… Denilson lunged in with a tackle that unluckily saw the ball continue into McGeady’s path… as the cross was looped in, Vermaelen covered the length of the pitch and got in front of his man (McGeady I believe) to get the block in. Kolo Toure, eat you heart out… the new kid on the block looks a bit special.

The second half was a bit more casual from and Arsenal perspective. Celtic were still doing their best to ‘Out muscle’ us… it’s a shame the only way they could do this was by petulantly fouling at every attempt.

A player came on for Arshavin… I seriously had to ask who… apparently it was a bit a Clark Kent moment… the player I was asking after was Abou Diaby… who had grown hair! Diaby receieved a lot of flak from people on Sunday’s guest post… someone said they call him ‘Diabolical Diaby’ down at the grove… that is my best freind you’re talking about… and a load of old bollocks. Diaby is going to be a top player this year and those who disagree shall be known as ‘Diaby Deniers’… a criminal offence in blog land… anyway… Diaby came on, took a fantastic touch in front of him to take it past McGeady… ran 40 yards… played a delicious ball into Clichy who crossed into the box, which McGeady unluckily touched past McGeady… Own goal… 2-0 to the Arsenal… hopefully the tie is dead and buried.

So to conclude… another encouraging performance against a top (Snigger) European side. I loved watching the team defend as a unit and attack as a unit. I think the 4-3-3 is still a touch alien to our more attacking player… but it certainly seems to be working from a defensive point of view. Arshavin, Nik and RvP don’t seem to be enjoying the formation at the moment… but that will come I’m sure.

The defence looked superb last night and I thought Sagna had improved on his Everton opener. Thomas Vermaelen and Gallas look like a partnership made in footballing heaven. Gallas sweeps up at the back organsing things… and finally… we have a defender who attacks balls coming into the box like Kerry Katona attacks lines of cocaine at house parties. I still think we need to add to our defensive ranks. A holding midfielder and a centre back need to be top of the agenda… because having a decent starting 11 doesn’t win you titles… it’s how you cope with injuries that does.

The big question this morning will be whether Wenger is confident enough of progression to delve into the transfer market early? I hope so… we’ve got to fill the next 4 days with something!

Player Ratings:

Almunia: The first clean sheet of many I would hope. He didn’t have much to do bar mopping up in the area. His distribution was sound as ever. 7

Clichy: A good performance from our pocket sized frenchman. He made a very nippy intercption late on which could have caused us problems. His awareness to danger is his best asset… I’m hoping with that with better players in front of him this year, he can return to his form of old. 7

Vermaelen: The beast from the East… Technically, the Belgium is East of England, so that works from me… you try rhymming something with Belgium! Anyway, the guy looks immense… he has dead eyes, like a serial killer… but he also has redeeming features like buckets of pace, ability in the air… and a cool head under pressure. I like this guy… I like him a lot… maybe a little too much, but we’ll talk about that later. 9

Gallas: Willy G (I always sing Willy G, to the tune of Billie Jean… you really didn’t need to know that) has turned his Arsenal fortunes around inside a year. He looks the consummate professional out on the pitch and he looks like he is enjoying his football once again. His defending was spot on and I think Verm is the ying to his yang. 8

Sagna: There has been concern among many people that our beaded Frenchman might not be able to recreate his form of two seasons ago… tonight went some way to dispelling that myth. Like Clichy, he just needs someone playing in front of him who can hold the ball up if we really want to get the best from him. Still needs to work on crossing though… 7

Cesc: Geoff mentioned that Cesc didn’t look particularly happy the other day, and I have to concur… I think the death of his buddy may have hit him for 6. However, he is playing with more focus this year and he looks like more of an athlete. He even managed to get a couple of shots out from under his feet. A solid performance from the Captain. 7.5

Denilson: I thought he made some very good interceptions and I think he looks like he HAS in fact been down the gym this summer. I can’t work out whether it is gym or the new kit actually… our home kit isn’t exactly flattering is it? Anyway, he did what he did well last year, got in front of his player… hussled McGeady’s, cut out angles… his passing seemed a little off at times, but he seems to play better when he gets a little bit more freedom to roam. 7

Song: In my eyes, he had a stormer… he was everywhere, cutting out passes, clattering into people, controlling the ball, waiting for the right pass… the man had a top game… his second on the spin. People might say he fouled a little too often… I would say to them look at PV04′s record of cards and tell me that he didn’t do the same? Same with Gilberto… A very solid performance from a man who know’s he has to take his football to the next level this year if he wants to carve out a career. 8.5

Arshavin: A much better performance from the dimunitive Russian. He was tricky, agressive and a nuisance for most of the night. His pace and power on the ball are a pleasure to watch. He didn’t really deliver too much bar a diallowed goal… but his time will come, and I’m going to stake a pound that it’s when we play the Mancs. 7

Bendtner: Not his best game for the club, but he did his fair share of defensive donkey work and his control was quite good. He is struggling a little bit with the new formation, but again… Rome wasn’t built in two games. 6.5

RvP: Not up to his usual high standards, but he had a fairly decent game. I’m not so bothered about the strikers at the moment because I know that the attackers will come good. The fact we’ve got the defence working is far more pleasing. We’ve still got Theo, Vela, Rosicky and Nasri to come back into the team… and that my friends is a mouth watering prospect! 6.5

Have a great day Grovers!

P.S. The Parkhead atmosphere was real scary… especially when most of it must have been outside when you were all leaving with ten minutes to go… tut tut!

BBK, did you watch it? You’re allowed to play only as well as the other team allows you to, remember that. Hull might have looked poor since Spurs dominated so much.

  2. Samir

Balasz Dzsudzsak was in the interest of Arsenal. Agent Joszef Baranyai knows nothing. “I have also heard about the interest of Arsenal ‘says Baranyai against origo.hu. “I have heard from some newspapers and fellow Case observers have also informed me there. I can understand the interest of Arsenal confirm nor deny. “The agent would be an excellent pupil to its meaning in PSV. “He has a great game against Ajax, and hopes more of such performance to deliver,” said interests. “I can not specifically say a transfer.”

  3. A

Not a chance Pat, not even Spuds themselves think that they could challenge the top 4. Defoe will score goals, Lennon and Modric are a handful, but the rest of their team is very average. They should make the Europa League places though as long as they don’t implode.

  4. London

Michael Owen, hahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, oh, I wish we had finished our business early. lol

  5. London

United will be the ones that will fall out of the top four, the journalists are just too scared to say it, we are witnessing the footballing equivalent of the fall of Rome, ManU are the Emperors new clothes, they are crap.

  6. Maciek

A, I respect Your View but I’m afraid You are wrong on it. Gomes is a clown but he can make many world class saves. Woodgate and King are quality, and Bassong and Dawson are good enough for the 3rd ant 4th spot. Palacios is quality and I still do not understand why havn’t Wenger bought him.Bentley is average but their striking force is huge. And Harry knows what’s he is doing. They will be hard to beat. Still. they are spuds so maybe this “spurs factor” will show up.

  7. A

lol David/Bill, I wonder if they’ll be said to be in crisis now- I’m guessing not….

Just hope Fergie doesn’t realise how shit they are now and goes out buys an Aguero or Ribery or equivalent for 30 mil

  8. Maciek

London, if they pull a rabbit out of their hat, they still can do it. You know, Aguerro, Villa and Silva are all available mate…….

  9. Honest Bill

    A. I think we might well see some attackers going in on the deadline day. Ferguson will have already realised this before today

  10. London

Fergie doesn’t have that amount of money to spend, how long do you think they can carry that debt on for? It’s over, they are fucked.

  11. A

lol We’ll see at the end of the season won’t we. I rate Gomes actually, good keeper, Woodgate and King are very good too, though they’ll barely play. Bassong is good, Dawson is shite.

Palacios is crap, no footballing brain at all, he’s just a bit lump with alot of athleticism, diving twat as well. Give me Song, Denilson, Ramsey over him any day.

Striking force is huge?! They’ve got Defoe, Keane, and Crouch, or are you talking height wise referring to Crouch?!

They should be Europa league, but have no central midfield at all, Modric is their only creative midfielder in the whole club, and Lennon is hit and miss. They’re the only two players in their squad that’ll create any goals, and even they aren’t anything special.

That’s where they’re so so far inferior to the top 4, they have no midfield, and certainly no depth at all.

  12. Pedro

London, we’re not… ManU wont go from title winners to 5th in a year.

The Glazers can’t allow that to happen… debt is a problem… dropping out of the top 4 is a completly different one. I’m sure they’ll spend there way out if things are looking that bad.

All this writing off and proclamations of championship winning inside the first week of the season is crazy!

  13. A

Yeah HB – that does worry me! I still feel that Utd are the most at threat of falling out of the top 4, but do fear Fergie will realise the goals aren’t gonna come from anywhere currently, and they really need signings.

Hope they don’t have the money

  14. ReVELAtion

It’s 1 game.. United looked a poor side today, but this is united were talking about. They will make signings or turn it around.. They could finish 3rd perhaps, but drop out of the top 4? Behave!

  15. Pedro

You know what is crazy… we had a spud on here today and he would be laughing at your statements about Spurs… Spurs top 4… deary me.

  16. Honest Bill

I don’t think they’ll fall out of the top four. They always start off poorly, and then turn it around. I expect them to be challenging. Still it’s nice to see them drop three points which they really should be taking

  17. A

Certainly a possibility Pedro, re buying their way out of trouble, but currently I really do feel they’re under threat. Said it all summer, and the first two games havn’t done anything at all to make me think any different.

  18. Keith

London-pet hate of mine when people refer to “United”; which one as there are several throughout the leagues!!

Dont give them the status that they crave for by infering that there is only one United! LOL!

Having said that although I havent seen both of Man Utds 2 games a lot of people are saying they have looked ordinary. Would love them to drop out of the top 4 then they would have a financial crisis on their hands!

  19. ReVELAtion

    United won’t buy a striker.

It’ll be someone in the centre of the park or out wide.. I’d stick a sneaky fiver on hamsik or silva.

  20. A

I dunno Pedro, in any other season I’d agree, but this year there’s the City factor.

The top 4 are all very close together, so whilst previously there’s been a big gap between the lowest of the top 4 and the rest, if City click then whoever comes bottom of the top 4 will be in trouble, and currently I don’t see how that could be anyone apart from Utd. Obviously signings could really change that, and if they make a couple of top signings before the window closes then Liverpool are odds on to be 4th imo

  21. Paulinho

A, how can you keep maintaining Palacios is crap? He’s a far better player than Denilson.

And as I predicted when he joined, his technical game will come to the fore when he plays with better players at Spurs and he will score goals, like he did in South America.

  22. A

Speaking of Rooney, can’t believe he got away with a horrible tackle, if he’d been sent off as he should’ve been then he would’ve been out of the game against us. Fucking sod’s law he’ll score a screamer against us now

  23. ReVELAtion

A, Liverpool look over reliant on Stevie M & Fernando and their options within the squad are a bit medicore if you ask me.. Aquilani will have to be a big player for them and at 20m he should be..

United looked ordinary, but they often start slow and pick up points at christmas and down the back straight..

2 Very good results aside, we finished fourth and haven’t neccessarily strengthend on the squad we had.. Whether Wenger has got it right or not is not important at the moment. It will be after 38 games and still at this time we are still the favourites to fall at the waist side.

  24. A

Have to disagree Paulinho. I maintain Palacios is crap because he is! He’s strong, and athletic, decent technique most of the time, but has absolutely no footballing intelligence whatsoever, both defensively and offensively, and gives the ball away all the time, not to mention the fact he’s a massive cheat, both diving and doing nasty challenges.

I’d choose Denilson over Palacios every time, though their attributes are very different, as far as defensive centre mids go they’re at two opposite extremes.

  25. A

Reva I think we’re stronger massively from last season, so I guess it’s all about opinions.

Utd looked ordinary alot of last season, but had ronaldo getting goals out of nowhere, sneaking wins for them. They don’t have anyone who can do that currently, and unless they sign someone who does then they’re gonna be in alot of trouble imo.

    Liverpool I agree with.

Paulinho are you genuinly trying to say that Palacios will now score goals, because he’s scored his first goal in the Premiership in 3 his years?! Until he gets a few more I don’t think it’s really possible to make a claim like that!

  26. Honest Bill

I think we’re much stronger too. Eduardo, Vermaelen and Arshavin are all excellent players which we didn’t have last time around. The whole team’s work rate and attitude seems to have improved. The new formation really seems to play to our strengths (or offset our weaknesses if you prefer) and i think we’ll do much better.

  27. downbutnotoutakabeatenbutproud

Pedro – I tug my lock to a worthwhile opponent, and adjust my preconceptions of the cockerknee massive, apparently there’s more than one of youse with a sense of humour in the stinky :-D

Ok. Whoever’s got eurosport 2 switch to it for a sec and listen to how the chick in the blue moans. Is it just me or is that way too weird?

  30. Pedro

    downbutnotoutakabeatenbutproud, you are mental.

Looking forward to having a beer with some of the Celtic mob next week!

You’ll get to hear a real atmosphere ;-)

  31. reggie57

Agree HB we are stronger but only in our 1st 11, when injurys and suspensions kick in it will be the same old same old scenario thats why it is so important for AW to strengthen now and not sit there and twiddle with his thumbs, now is our time FFS AW seize the moment!!

  32. Honest Bill

YOu wanna know the truth? Celtic were actually far better than i thought they would be. Very fast worked very hard, and kept solid mostly. Gave us a really good game. But their attack was a bit limp. They never looked like they believed they could score. They just didn’t have the quality that we have all over the park.

  33. Paulinho

He won’t be prolific A but he will start expressing his offensive game more and more. Look at the first Spurs goal on Sunday, the free kick came about from Palacios making a central surge as a central midfielder in a 4-4-2.

You talk about him lacking intelligence but I strongly disagree. He knows when to impose himself on the other team and take chances, whereas Denilson is too much of a pussy cat. He may lack subtlety but has an instinct of what to do, and that’s just as important if not more than intelligence. Senderos is intelligent and cerebral but he’s not a very good player is he?

  34. Honest Bill

I agree reggie57. We need a bacjup centre half for sure. And another strong central midfielder who can play the holding role. If we get those two at least, I think we are in good shape

  35. Pedro

Paulinho… A has a bit of an obsession about intelligence in players… I don’t really get what he is talking about?

Ronaldo is thick, Palacios is thick… pretty much anyone who isn’t an Arsenal player is thick…

I thought it was agreed that all footballers were a bit dim?

  36. Honest Bill

There’s a difference between being a bit dim and uneducated, and knowing what to do on the football pitch

  37. reggie57

Dont mean a thing about being thick or dim look at rooney typical caveman if ever i saw one the point is i would not mind being a pound note behind that thick fucker!!

  38. Paulinho

    True Pedro.

And I don’t see anything particularly intelligent about Denilson.

Sideways pass, sideways pass, oh, I think I’ll try another five yard sideways pass……

  39. A

Pedro in attacking terms it’s natural understanding of the game, knowing how an attack will develop and getting into positions where you’re in space, or giving the ball to the right person, or making space for someone else.

Defensive terms against knowing how the opposition attack will develop, where there’s likely to be space, where people are likely to be run, and snuffing out attacks through out-thinking and predicting the opposition

  40. Honest Bill

Paulinho. Denilson has quite an intelligent approach to the game. He is generally good as far as positioning and reading the play. He might be thick as two short planks off the field

  41. A

I’m talking about footballing intelligence, not general intelligence.

Denilson is incredibly intelligent in defensive footballing terms, there are very few who read the game better, and that’s why he makes so many interceptions. If he had better physical attributes he’d be an absolutely incredible DM, but because he’s lacking physically, he’s good at what he does but has massive limitations. He’s made a career with one of the top teams in Europe, and been in all Brazil’s youth teams, purely because he’s such an incredibly intelligent footballer, as other than that he’s very limited.

  42. Pedro

A… but Palacios has done a great job at Spurs and you’ve blamed any effectiveness he’s had on being athletic?

  43. Pat

Intelligence is much more important in Spain and Italy.

CR will struggle with Madrid and Kaka will easily outshine him. Write that down, I’m super confident. CR can’t think in tight spaces

  44. A

Yeah Pedro – he’s a hustle and bustle DM, he doesn’t have reading of the game, he doesn’t make many interceptions, he’s just quick, and powerful, and goes around breaking up play by kicking people! He’s currently playing with another DM who’s more intelligent, as he did at Wigan. He isn’t a real DM as such, because he doesn’t have the intelligence.

  45. Honest Bill

One thing i will say for Ronaldo, is that he understands that to score lots of goals, you need to attack and take plenty of shots. It will increase your chances significantly. I know that sounds extremely obvious, but sometimes it really is that simple

  46. Paulinho

A, any intelligence Denilson displays while doing his legendary interceptions is tempered by his lack of intelligence and ability on the ball.

He rarely picks the most progressive pass, which is why his ball retention is so good.

  47. Pedro

Pat, Kaka is my favourite player outside Arsenal… and he will shine because he is the best player in the world… but to say Ronaldo can’t think in tight spots amazes me… he’s just come away from the fastest league in the world as a rip roaring success… if he couldn’t think in tight spaces, he’d have flopped…

  48. A

Paulinho that’s what DMs are meant to do though, win the ball back and give it to the more creative midfielder…. He doesn’t have a lack of intelligence on the ball, he’s just very average.

  49. Paulinho

Yeah A, he is a throw back, like all good central midfielders are. He doesn’t follow a script like a robot, he plays what he sees.

  50. A

Pat I agree about Ronaldo actually! I think it’ll be interesting how he copes in a team not build for everyone to play just for him, and how his ego will cope with it, he could well fail miserably. He can’t pass, can’t really think, but is a sensational goalscorer, have to see how he fits into the system at Real. I do think Kaka will be awesome anywhere though, and Benzema will score alot of goals too.

  51. Pedro

Paulinho… like Paddy and Roy Keane… no-nonsense defensive midfielding.

If Mr T was about watching Denilson playing, he might well fire a snickers at him… and tell him to grow some nuts.

  52. Paulinho

A, most esteemed football people these days bemoan categorisations like ‘defensive midfielder’or any emphasis on a set role.

Guys like Bryan Robson and Graeme Souness did everything, as did Patrick Vieira. Viera wasn’t particularly intelligent but he played on instinct. Palacios is playing the central role how it should be played.

  53. A

Vieira and Keane weren’t DMs though, they were box to box midfielders. You couldn’t play a cesc with either of them, that’s why Wenger sold Vieira.

Makalele was a DM, Gilberto Silva was a DM, though he had that one season where he transformed into a box to box midfielder!

With Vieira Petit was the more defensive of the two, but neither were really DMs, and we didn’t need a “proper” DM, as both were good defensively and offensively

  54. Pedro

I’d hardly call Paddy offensive! He never managed more than 4 assists in a year… or more than 7 goals!

Jeez… even Gilberto managed more than 7!

  55. Franchise

if palacious trained with arsenal he would be 3x the player he is now

and i reckon he is already a better player than denilson

  56. el tel

I believe that Wenger will strengthen as he can see just like us that the Prem is there for the taking. The Spuds are doing well at the moment but they will go on a run of losses as they usually do.

The Chavs look like the ones to beat for me but I think we are good enough to do it.

Ahh the Mancscum. The reason they are poor is becuase they have lost the keeper and the 2 CBs that has always been their strength. Yes they havent got the diving slag to get them out of an hole but they won the titles because of the defence. I think Fat bollocks Rooney is way over rated and if the refs stamp out his agression he would be fairly ordinary. There is no other player in the League who can get away with the things he does.

Please guys come up with the so called superior Mancscum squad if you can as I don’t know too many of their players that would get into our squad.

Our squad is 2nd only to the Chavs in my opinion. when I read on here that the Spuds have a massive forward line I have to laugh as although they are decent players none of them would get into our squad.

With a couple of players in as expected I think we could have a huge season.

Mancsum have lost The diver the neanderthal the Keeper, the Duran Duran song and Vidic which is the equivalent to us losing Eddy,Sicky,Fabrigas,Gallas,Clichy,Theo.

    Now who’s better.

  57. A

He wasn’t offensive Pedro, he was box to box, but more offensive than Petit. Neither our centre mids were particularly offensive though

  58. Paulinho

If you asked 100 football managers, and 100 football fans of various teams, around 95% would choose Palacios over Denilson.

  59. Pedro

Franchise, it’s all about intelligence… A has had them in class doing alsorts… Denilson came up trumps… sat level 4 apparently ;-)

  60. A

how can you make a claim like that Paulinho when it’s based on absolutely nothing! It’s just your opinion. If you asked fans grated there’d probably be a 60-40 split in favour of palacios.

  61. Paulinho

If you look at the Celtic game again you’ll see Denilson was complete wank until Celtic gave up when the second goal was scored.

He scored a good goal on Saturday but even the Denilson of the last few years was liable to do something like that every now and then.

Last night’s game confirmed to me he hasn’t changed at all.

  62. Franchise

ppl dont understand how good a manager like wenger is.

IMO he is the best at making average players look world class cos off his footballing philosophies

unfortunately his cons piss me off like a motherfucker

but he is still one of the best in the game

denilson wont start for as many as 10 prem clubs IMO but he can start for us and we wi 6-1 at everton

    :|

  63. A

318th now Pedro, was on 40 odd after the weekend though, now on 87, just been updated though so i guess you’d be on more now. Made a couple of subs a second ago, cahill and tevez out for swp and defoe

  64. el tel

Get real all you Dennilson knockers I keep reading this bollocks that he isn’t positive going forward.

I must have been hallucinating last weekend when he blasted a 25 yarder into the top corner and that wasn’t the first time he has done this, he also set a couple more chances up in that match which led to goals.

Maybe he is being held back tactically by Wenger, maybe he is told to keep it simple and give the ball to Cesc.

Lets see how good Palacios and co. are when the going gets tough.

  65. Paulinho

    True Franchise.

With players like Arshavin, Cesc, Vermaelen, he can do quietly whatever he does and slide into the back ground.

If you replaced Palacios with Denilson in the Spurs side the difference would be huge. It would actually be embarrassing to watch.

  66. A

Sorry franchise – you see things completely differently to me! Denilson would start for every club outside the top 4 apart from City imo

  67. el tel

Is this the same Palacios that all the big Clubs came in for we are talking about.

Dennilson is quality and you will all be sorry for doubting him by the seasons end.

I suppose you guys would prefer the likes of Fletcher to Dennilson.

  68. Franchise

A most of ur thoughts are beyond reality ive known that for ages

    let me name the 10

    chelsea
    liverpool
    mancity
    manc utd
    tottenham
    fulham
    bolton
    west ham
    everton
    aston villa

just thinking about it he wld probably not start for more than 10 clubs

    wenger factor makes the difference

  69. el tel

    Hi Pedro

I am on top of the world after hearing them cheating Mancscummers have lost to Burnley mate.

    How you doing fella?

After all the negatives we have been writing on here its started ok for us.

I still think we need a couple of players to really push on but the squad we have is good enough to challenge imo.

Still believe we need a Keeper. And I hope wenger toughens up and drops players who don’t perform.

  70. A

lol fair enough franchise, if you don’t think he’d start for spuds, fulham, bolton, west ham, everton, villa then you just see things VERY differently to me!

  71. el tel

    Franchise

I rarely agree with A but mate I think you ahve got this one wrong.

Name the midfields of the dross Teams like Spuds, Villa, Everton,Fulham,Bolton as I bet you don’t even know the players they have. The Mancs midfield could do with a Dennilson too imo. They are very old and very ordinary.

  72. Stu

Denilsong wouldnt start for anyone else in the prem because he isnt a physical player and since all other teams basically just play shit football and kick other teams about Denilson wouldnt fit in with any of them.

  73. Franchise

how many arsenal players go on loan to sit on championship sides benches?

at arsenal they featured for carling cup sides that succesfully saw off prem sides yet they go on loan to championship sides and struggle to secure a starting spot

even flamini at milan is not good enough to keep 32 yr old ambrosini on the bench. he is used as a full back mostly

  74. A

    huddlestone/palacios
    delph/petrov/reo-coker
    neville
    noble
    etuhu/murphy
    mccann/davis

Denilson would start ahead of all of those regulars imo

  75. el tel

    Franchise

You must be on a wind up fella. I see most of all our home games and almost all aways on TV and dennilson was poor in very few matches.

Yes he gets out muscled against the Stokes of this world but he is usually consistent.

Why are we still knocking the lad without calling out someone we could get who is better.

  76. Franchise

most clubs outside the top 4 (incl some in the top 4) are all about playing players with steel and mettle

for that reason denilson wont start for the likes of fulham, villa, stoke etc

he fits in our pass and move game cos that is what we play

a player like palacious would transform into a world class midfielder if he was under wenger

  77. el tel

    You guys support The Arsenal

We don’t play like any other side in the Prem and if what you want is for us to resort to shit tactics like the rest then good luck to you all.

I want other teams to copy our style so the Prem can truly be called the best in the world rather than listen to the myth.

Bollocks to the Boltons, Evertons, Blackburns of this world as all the kids in this country should learn the Arsenal way.

English football mentality is flawed and the kick bollock and bite way we play is utter shit.

Just because its fast and frantic doesn’t mean its the best, most exciting yes the best no way.

  78. A

I believe the opposite Franchise, Palacios could never be a world class footballer, because he isn’t even a very good footballer, he’s just effective in lesser teams because he has the power and steel. In terms of his actual footballing ability he’s very very limited, and could never play for a top four club because he lacks that footballing ability!

    Anyways, jogging time. laters

  79. Franchise

el tel if u r obsessed with denislon good for u i was just making a point

he is quite good for us but there are several players given the time would be better than him

the way we play mcan make almost any player look good. if not for diaby’s stuborness in that he likes to romance the ball i bet he would have been an emirates legend by now

    im not slating denilson.

  80. el tel

Sorry Franchise mate but I can’t have that. wenger could and would have got him if that was the case.

If its so easy for Wenger to teach thugs to play the world would be his oyster as there are many many options.

I don’t think the Brazilians get enough credit for how tough they really are.

  81. Franchise

el el making a point doesnt add or take away my support for arsenal

leave the boring ‘im the best fan’ bit out

  82. Franchise

so el tel cos wenger missed out on ribery does that mean he was shit?

we had palacious on trial when we had too many DMs

wenger was very impressed with him apparently

  83. el tel

    Franchised

I am not obsessed by any of our Players but its so easy to knock a young player who isn’t English.

Dennilson will be a star for us and probably Barca in 3 years time when they come to pair him up again with Cesc.

Why doesn’t anyone slag Theo off like they do Dennilson as he has done almost zilch for us at the moment.

English football is about punishing good football and turning it into a war.

  84. Franchise

el tel nationality is not an issue here

who said anything about brazilians not getting credit?

denilson is the one under the microscope not brazil 8O

denilson is a good footballer but i can bet my life that 19 out of 20 prem managers would rather have palacious

  85. Franchise

if u wanna read back past posts then u wld see my views on theo mate

u r jumping the gun here stick to the topic at hand

what has english players got to do with this for cgrists sake?
