So after yesterdays super posiitive post, this post is the equivalent of fantasy football, but it’s all possible, read on because this could really happen.

It’s rumoured that Moyes is considering selling Lescott to Man City and buying Senderos, well is Senderos is available for £6 million why don’t we swap him plus £14 million and get Lescott for ourselves? That would be perfect, then we would have a back line that really could stop the best the EPL could throw at us, and all for nothing, we would still have £1 million left from the Kolo deal to go with the £3 million left from the Vermaelen deal and added to the £25 million we got for Ade that would still leave us £28 million to spend.

Sell Eboue to the Italians for £9 million and we are back to £37 million. Then we could buy Matuidi and Vieira, why Vieira? Well for me he’s miles better than Denilson and Song, he won’t play that often and that why we should buy Blaise, the influence that Vieira will have on the kids will be immense, the impact he’ll have on the fans will be as good if not better than signing someone like Alonso, why? Because he’s coming back because he loves us, and the atmosphere will be electric, don’t forget DB10 didn’t retire until he was 36, nor Adams, so he has at least a couple of years in him, then he could replace Pat Rice and wait for TH14 or Dennis and slip into management.

If the kids are going to make it, he’ll bring it out of them, because right now, they are not good enough, so him being around can only be positive, then I wouldn’t say no to numchucks, I know he’s not rated, but I like his movement, he has some of what Henry had, and he’s cheap, so if he didn’t work out we have lost little, and Wenger wants him, and it’s only fair if he listens to my choice, I give him his choice, that’s called compromise. If not him, then I would sign Huntelaar.

Then we should buy Eden Hazard or get this… …bring back Reyes, yes I said Reyes, he would be perfect for us, he still loves us, has never bad mouthed us and has never recaptured the form he had when he was an Arsenal player. He is just what we lack, someone to get behind defences and has a shot on him.

That completes my signings, Lescott, Vieira, Matuidi, Hazard or Reyes and Numbchucks or Huntelaar. All that and he gets change.

Today is the big one, I’m so looking forward to seeing us play at home again and seeing us in red and white, I hope he plays more of a first team and we see Rosicky and Theo back in the line up, I also hope he stops telling us how young his team is because it’s no longer an excuse and some of them are no longer young, and Arshavin said that, not me, this team needs to start looking the part as the season begins in a couple of weeks and we go straight into the tough games, win those three and we could win the league, lose them and we won’t, so let’s hope we see some great football today and maybe we can all start to hope again.

    I wouldn’t want sakho Pat, just because he’s left footed, and we need to sign someone who’s gonna partner vermaelen. No idea about cetin, if he was really cheap then maybe, but we need someone who’s gonna be content with sitting on the bench most of this season, so a 28 year old maybe isn’t the best idea. No idea who we’d actually get though, what’s subotic like?

    jaguar, there was one report in an ignorant english newspaper that said 3.5 mil just because they picked a price out of the air as they’d never heard of him, and a couple other similar ones copied it. The vast majority of reports are in the 7-10 mil bracket

    Why not a left footer? I saw someone post that yesterday. If we can play 2 right footers, then why can’t we play 2 left footers?

    I don’t see the logic in that or any obstacles to why it cannot work.

    Cetin would be around 8 million, but he is first team quality imo. I think Verm would be benched and gradually play more in Gallas’s place. Plus, Verms injured, according to someone on this blog.

    Anyone read Toure’s interview in NOTW? He said he rejected Wenger b/c he knew he was going to be flogged off once he reached a certain age. That concerns me a bit. The fans want tradition and players like Toure to retire at their club, while Wenger just throws everyone out…

    Pat you can’t play two left footers together because most footballers are right footed. That means that they find it more comfortable, and are therefore usually better at passing, dribbling, and turning with the inside of their right foot, which means right to left. You can’t have two left footed centre backs because their weaker side will be their right side, which is where most attackers will be strongest.

    I can’t think of a single centre back pairing who are both left footed??

    Vermaelen was bought for ten mil because he’s a starter, he wouldn’t be benched straight after being signed….

    The way wenger was going on about how many offensive options we’ve got in the press conference, and said that’s why we could afford to let a striker go, i’m really not sure he’ll bring another one in, especially not like chamakh, but you never know with him!

    Am really suprised no one remembers SErvet from the Euro’s, unless you did not watch them. He was unmistakenly memorable from some of Turkey’s performances from what I recall but I think was suspended for the eventual semi-final loss. I remember he had a played with a head bandage one whole game and had injuries yet played through them for the most part. The fellow is a definite beast and would add some steel to our backline if Sendy is off. Not sure if he checks all the boxes in terms of speed and passing out of the back but is a rock solid defender with quite alot of international and club experiance.

    In fact I recall telling a Turkish friend of mine that am suprised this guy is not playing somewhere else and he remarked plenty of teams have looked at him recently but he has refused to leave Turkey. A bit like the Italian players I guess.

    Besides at 28 he would still have 3-4 yrs in him at the peak of his game as a CB. 3-4 yrs is a long time in footballing terms. Our obsession with age at Arsenal football club is a reflection of the youth policy and that hasn’t exactly bourne any fruit yet. We need a blend, plus you agree JD is a bit of a calamity so why solely rely on him as backup.

I want us to sign someone, but whoever we sign should be someone max 24 or so, because it’ll have to be someone who’s happy to sit on the bench and be introduced gradually, starting from next summer alongside vermaelen. The fitness of our squad is essential to the game we like to play but still Viera is being discussed. That should tell you something. Perhaps the boss is not as obsessed with “developing” as he once was. Also Servet does not have to sit on the bench every game, we play in four competitions ffs.     Vermaelen isn’t seen of as unproven, he was the Ajax captain, and has made a similar amount of career appearances as our club captain, and is also a year older. He was watched for 30-40 games by various scouts, and even watched twice in training for Ajax before they decided he was good enough to sign and come straight back into the team.

    I’m not “defending” anyone – I’m explaining what I believe to be the rationality behind the Vermaelen signing, keeping Gallas, and any centre back who might come in. I’m talking about what I expect to happen, how can I be defending someone or being an AKB?!

    Or is that just a token response when you come up to a logical argument and can’t see a way to argue against it using your own logic, write it off as something an AKB would say?!

It showed though why we need someone with more athleticism and aggression in games like this, or someone who is better on the ball. Though I guess he was played because he’s comfortably the best reader of the game out of our midfielders, and best at dealing with quick passing football, but Madrid just never got going at all, so he did and offered very little!

    Yeah rosicky was superb today, attacking wise we really have incredible depth. I think Merida could certainly play a good part in the first team this season too.

    I’d say in any games where we’re actually threatened by the opposition Lazer, though he can’t do it all himself. He is only really very good on those rare occasions against passing teams, of which there are few in the prem, the rest of the time he’s just ok, and there are certain situations where he really offers very little.

    On Denilson-He is not good enough to start every game. He is not good enough to start against tough games. But against the correct team he can be very effective. I understand that the opportunity for him to shine comes along very seldom, but he is a perfect squad player. Hopefuly Wenger sees him as a backup CDM to whoever we bring in. I mean come on guys, would you rather have 3 million for him and one less player? Ofcourse my opinion is based entirely on us signing a defensive midfielder…Arsene cant be blind enough not to though can he? Denilson has been a waste of space but he CAN be effective. We just need to understand how and when to use him. Because of our lack of depth of defensive midfield players, he was forced to do too much, and thus we expected too much. He is not an arsenal started but he can be an effective arsenal backup.

    Yeah Lazer, merida was playing in the u19s, spain got knocked out midweek, same tournament england are playing the final of tomorrow.

    Theo and gibbs are different because they had to play a tournament late into the summer, then had an extended rest, so only just started pre season training, aren’t fit yet etc.

    Merida had his summer hols, then started pre season early or the same time because of playing for spain, so he’s up to fitness just like everyone else.

    Agree with that luke. Though he CAN play against tough teams imo, but just not by himself. If we play two DMs he could be effective, as long as he’s the reader, and has a smasher, or someone with power and athleticism alongside him, but he certainly can’t play as the only DM against a very good team because he doesn’t have the athleticism to cover the ground and chase runners.

If we brought in a classy CDM we wouldnt need to start him and could use him in cup games or against bottom level teams. I think our lack of a classy CDM is the problem not Denilson.

    What do you mean by a good read luke? I’ve heard glowing reports from everyone who’s seen him play regularly, not heard a bad word said about him, and sounds like exactly what we need, but not found a good read as in a detailed scouting report type analysis.
