200% increase – Why a positive still feels negative – Return of a Legend?

by & filed under Uncategorized.

I didn’t watch enough of the game to deliver a proper match report today… a comfortable 0-1 win against Hannover doesn’t really merit a match report of great depth. Cesc is back and scoring, Arshavin looked slightly better and Arsenal cruised. Happy days… our winning streak continues.

In other news, it seems Arsenal are having the summer clear out Wenger insisted wouldn’t happen. He said he’d keep the squad together like he did last year and he hasn’t. Why say you will if it is patently obvious you have no intention doing so?

Anyway… one thing we can’t argue with is the players he has let go needed to be let go. Adebayor (£80k) is a top striker, but his attitude and work rate were not up to Arsenal standard. Kolo Toure (£40k) was an invincible but his poor working relationship with Gallas and his erratic form meant that if someone was going… it was him. Eboue (£35k) is also rumoured to be heading for the exit door… at 25, with no defined position, how could one argue with him leaving? So altogether, we’ll end up recouping £45million plus (Factor in £8million of wages that surely goes onto that budget).

I am ok with this… but the money must be spent to recruit at least one decent player. If buying 3 players is enough to disrupt the squad, selling 3 massive personalities must also be a problem. I know selling the players was the right thing to do, but I can’t help but feel negative about it… we’ve sniggered at the Arabs and their money… but we’re the first in line to offer up our players to ensure our coffers are filled. If I am feeling like this, I can’t believe the players aren’t feeling the same… they need an injection into the squad just as much as we do.

Patrick Vieira is believed to be on the radar… I would take him in a heart beat. If he could elevate us in the same way David’s did Spurs a few years back, he’d be worth a punt. According the Steve Stammers, his form has been superb this pre-season… the man is a leader, a legend and most importantly… he is a winner.

His signing wouldn’t be enough for me… I still think we need another player in at centre back. I like JD and Senderos, but at the highest level, they are still unproven. Song isn’t a centre back yet and I’m not prepared to watch him flounder when he gets his inevitable ten game streak during the Christmas period. Silvestre can’t be relied upon either. I have no idea about Vermaelen… so all we have at the back is Gallas. That is not enough to make up 18 points.

Next up is the emirates cup, it was great to see that in a recessionary year, Arsenal bumped the ticket prices up 200%… I can see why everyone thinks we’re so classy… can we add the £4million quid we’ll earn from that to the the £53million transfer kitty as well?

Arsenal now face our toughest season yet… the fans are on the edge, waiting to see if Wenger can learn from previous mistakes and take us back to the top.

He told us last year he underestimated the psychological effect of losing two big hitters… so surely he has a master plan brewing to make sure that doesn’t happen again?

I hope so… comments like this don’t fill me full of confidence though,

“In England people think all the problems have to be sorted out by buying players,’

I have to tell you Arsene, that is generally the view of most managers the world over… and the fact that your coaching skills haven’t reaped any rewards over the last few years suggests to me that maybe you should start looking at other ways to rectify your problems. Wenger and his ability to con the fans has waned over the last couple of years.. Comments like the below really make me question how much he believes his own hype?

‘The position of the squad is very good. It looks to me that the cohesion is there and that is down to the fact we have stability.’

Surely I am not the only one who can see the flaws in the above quote??

This season is the last throw of the dice for Arsene. I’ll put my trust in him and keep ‘em crossed… but if it all goes horribly wrong this season, I believe any questions that are asked of him at the end the year will be justified.

P.S. Kolo, I’d love to wish you all the best… but I can’t, I hope it goes horribly tits up and you end up resurrecting your career in Spain… sorry buddy, you will always be a legend in my eyes… Mr Arsenal… the man that wiped out Bergkamp and Wenger in his trial… an invincible… but I can’t wish you well playing for vulgar boys in blue.

Finally… ‘Operation Laughatbayor‘ received quite a lot of support from a lot of you! I’ll be talking about it a lot over the next month, so start telling your gooner freinds and lets see if we can get it going! Plus… check in tomorrow because we’re going to be starting a competition to give away a £500 Sony Ericsson W995 to one lucky reader… as part of the prize, you’ll be given the chance to win an all expenses paid trip to SA 2010! Exciting times my friends… exciting times!

  1. BOY BETTER KNOW

suga3 u got it,how are we supposed to sort out the frailties of our set piece defending when there is no one that is tall enough to head the fucking ball away

  2. A

I’d say his full speed is surprisingly quick stu, but his acceleration is such that he VERY rarely gets up to full speed!

  3. SUGA3

my point exactly, luke – someone pulled out stats where it got figured out that we were conceding less goals with Sendy as one of CBs…

anyone for a bet that it was down to his aerial ability?

we did not concede throughout almost entire CL campaign with him there – coincidence? I don’t think so…

so what if Drogba and Torres tore him a second one? they’re class, they take defences apart week in, week put…

  4. A

oh yeah i agree stu – senderos in midfield is funny, wenger just did it to illustrate how many centre backs we’ve got, it’s not actually gonna happen in any proper games im sure!!

  5. Stu

That reminds me. A, i counted the goals against tally in the league when Senderos was at the club and compared it to last season and with him in the squad we had a better record.

But i just counted the whole season, not just the games when Senderos was playing. Do you know if there is a stats site that would have that kind of stat?

  6. SUGA3

he ain’t slower than Denilson and that is quite something if you take into the account that he is twice his size :P

  7. SUGA3

well, some contemplate Vieira there, surely Sendy would do much better job…

I think he had a cracking game there – one of the best AFC players on the pitch, IMO…

  8. Stu

Its up to you A. I wouldnt willing waste your time. Was just wondering if that would have been a stat already. Like strikers with Goals/games stats etc.

  9. SUGA3

OK, but these are marginal differences, A…

I’d rather have a big lump there, I am just sick of seeing Denilson bouncing off everyone he comes against and that would give us some serious aerial advantage…

Sendy is defo one worth keeping – could play DM, and would be perfect for the next season once Willy is gone…

there are not too many CBs lying around waiting to be snapped up – selling him for peanuts would be plain dumb…

  10. BOY BETTER KNOW

just for the sake of it i do hope wenger plays senderos there and he does his usual and fucks up then that would really put the nail in his coffin

  11. leon

i think it depends how much first team football senderos and silvest want to play if they are both happy just being squad players then i thlink they will stay on but unless senderos has had change hert,he has made it pretty clear that he does like it in the prem, i think he is a good squad play myself not first team regular but he is like wes brown a good squad player that all nothing wroung wit that every team needs squad players does not mean is shit.the delinson debate rolls on and on he is good squad player the problem is in an ideal world he realy should not be playing as many games as he did same for song not first teamer just squad player

  12. BOY BETTER KNOW

senderos was so good in that run in the champions league run he didn’t even get to play in the final

  13. A

I agree he’s worth keeping suga. I agree different games call for different types of DM too, though I’m not sure about Sendy playing there, unless there are two DMs playing

  14. Stu

I think we should just loan out JD to a prem club and just use Gallas Vermaelen and at a push Song at CB. Or buy someone but thats very unlikely.

  15. A

    Stu – in the league

    04/05, 12 starts, 6 conceded 0.5 goals per game
without him 26 games 30 conceded 1.15 goals per game

    05/06, 19 starts, 18 conceded 0.95 goals per game
without him 17 games, 13 conceded 0.76 goals per game

    06/07, 9 starts, 9 conceded 1.00 goal per game
without him 29 games, 26 conceded 0.90 goals per game

    07/08, 14 starts, 10 conceded 0.71 goals per game
without him 22 games, 21 conceded 0.95 goals per game

overall with him 54 starts, 43 conceded, 0.80 goals per game

without him 94 games, 90 conceded, 0.96 goals per game

  16. BOY BETTER KNOW

fuck-by sep 12 we could be out of the champions league and the title race scary thought, even tho we won’t be in the title race our coffin could be nailed by then

  17. leon

    suga3

who said anything about delinson starting he is fillin player squad player, you bring on the last 10 minutes of a game he is that type of player song he is a bit better but again a squad player, when it comes jd i think he just needs time he will get better is first team player not yet could be in the future i dont its that bad in cb situation but still think may more are leaving in that pistion. too many rookies and squad palers in midfield for me

  18. A

suga3 you underestimate how much worse the rest of the prem is than us, apart from city and maybe everton denilson would get into any other starting XI in the prem imo

we can indeed pat, i really think we’re gonna be very happy with the players who come in, wenger’s been trying to make big money because he has big targets

  19. SUGA3

leon, as far as I can see, Denilson has started every game in the pre season, does not that tell you anything?

    (shit) squad player? yes…

starter? Jesus Christ, seeing him in tunnel automatically lowers my expectations…

  20. SUGA3

A, now give me an example where he could actually improve the midfield…

I’m gonna make it a bit harder: Spuds excluded…

  21. A

    04/05, 12 starts, 6 conceded 0.5 goals per game
without him 26 games 30 conceded 1.15 goals per game

    05/06, 19 starts, 18 conceded 0.95 goals per game
without him 19 games, 13 conceded 0.68 goals per game

    06/07, 9 starts, 9 conceded 1.00 goal per game
without him 29 games, 26 conceded 0.90 goals per game

    07/08, 14 starts, 10 conceded 0.71 goals per game
without him 24 games, 21 conceded 0.88 goals per game

overall with him 54 starts, 43 conceded, 0.80 goals per game

without him 98 games, 90 conceded, 0.92 goals per game

Stu – Those are right, messed up a couple things before

  22. leon

    suga3

well we all should not be he is not that good and i dought ever will be,the only he has been starting so many games and reason he played somany games last season is because did not sign top class player another thing that not his side he claerly does not have the physical presence

  23. A

    suga3 i think he’d improve most midfields imo –

villa, better than petrov and sidwell
birmingham better than their whole team
blackburn, bolton, burnley, fulham, hull, pompey, stoke, sunderland, spuds, west ham, wigan, wolves

he’d start in all their midfields imo and be better than who currently starts.

  24. Stu

Denilson wouldnt improve any premiership midfield because every other team has physical players in their team and Denilson would ruin all of that.

  25. SUGA3

he started so many games, leon, ‘cuz AW has his head soooo deep up his arse that he cannot see that he is never gonna cut it…

Stu, better than Petrov? no fuckin’ way…

    equal to Sidwell, perhaps…

as far as I am concerned, he could go to one of the teams from further down your list, but would struggle to start, as their managers don’t have THAT much patience…

  26. Pat

I really think we’d be solid with Vieira and matuidi coming in, along with Song.

Maybe Wenger sees Denilson as a more offensive midfielder in the 4-3-3.

  27. David

I agree there stu….There in no way Denilson would ever make any other team apart from Arsenal…midtable teams generally are filled with thugs for tacklers anyways…the boy is too soft too slow and too dense going forward.

  28. leon

    a

i would agree with that at lesser team he would be starting but at some stage when he reaches a certaing age he will want more first team chances because i do feel wenger get midfieler and i dont see him getting past song he is better that position be evon he should not be starting.i have not seen enough of song in cb position that often only agaist manu and i must say he did look very solid there

  29. test

I see stats so I guess we are talking about one man,

Denilson total shite when he is like bob marley statistically better than Maradona.

  30. David

One prolific striker is not good enough Stu…the boy needs all the help he can get…he played ok on the wings…i like the fact that if we have traore on the left he can cross to the big dane on the right where he can use his head for onced…..The more players the better Stu…

  31. Sion De Freitas

Matuidi & Vieira would be excellent, throw in a striker and then we’re cool.

Everyone always wants a lanky defender lol, slow defenders in a high line would be suicide no matter how good/potentially great they are (Senderos anyone?)

  32. gazzap

Guardian saying Matuidi is still on. Good news. they also talk about Vieira. The guy is a legend but I dont think a return to playing at arsenal would be a good idea. to have him back as a coach in 2 years would be better.

Matuidi and Hangeland in and we’d be champions IMO – and I am not joking.

  33. A

Yeah David i like traore on the left too, actually got a really good cross on him. If he becomes more disciplined, which surely he will, he could be the best of our three left backs. The big difference between him and gibbs is that he’s big and powerful, as well as very quick, he could be an awesome left back, though gibbs will be too.

Yeah stu re senderos, though they don’t tell the whole story – i remember seeing stats that showed we basically never conceded goals from set pieces when senderos played. As we conceded less with him than without overall, and much less with him than without from set pieces, it follows though that we conceded more with him from open play.

Overall though we’ve conceded less with him in the team than without.

  34. Sion De Freitas

In terms of signing a defender, what we need is a defender who can do what Hangelaand or whoever it is you guys want to come into The Arsenal can do, but who is fast enough to play in a high line!

  35. freduardo

i can see matuidi coming in and noone else. if Matuidi plus one more comes in I will be pleasantly surprised.
If noone comes in I’ll be gutted. if Eboue leaves will JD be RB cover or willwe have to buy? I reckon we could be a bit short on the right hand side without EE (as cover!).

  36. Pat

Zapata, Vieira and Matuidi and I’d be a very happy Arsenal fan. Anything extra, like a striker or keeper, would be spoiling us!

  37. A

solid freduardo, as good if not better than gibbs defensively imo, though without the lightning pace though he’s still quickish. He played a couple of games last pre season and in the reserves at right back, though literally only one or two for the ressies, but still, i like the idea of him there. He’s intelligent, and solid enough defensively.

  38. A

I’d go with that Pat, would make me very happy too, though I couldn’t see it happening, any two of the three is more likely, though i’d still be happy enough with that, matuidi is the main one for me though, or an equivalent dm

  39. Sion De Freitas

Zapata, Vieira and Matuidi and I’d be a very happy Arsenal fan. Anything extra, like a striker or keeper, would be spoiling us!

    ——————————————————-

I think I would go for that also, that would make me very happy indeed. A striker would be pretty good also, and maybe another right back, unless they are looking at Coquelin who is versatile.

  40. David

i like the look of traore….he is not double footed as such but he can use his right abit…gibbs is still class and young….and on a 10 year contract so he’ll wait incase injuries come in…either of those two in midfield would be all that bad….incase injuries hit us….but certainly the DM…the CB to replace Gallas…We keep Eboue….because we have to….keep Senderos….and then Buy Huntaleer…and we are set.

  41. test

    Dream world

Zapata Diarra and Huntler £40M, league is over by March then we concentrate on Europe. In the final of the Champions league we beat Real in their own ground 4-0.

    Real world

We sign some crap young midfielder from france who takes 6 months to settle. We are out of the league by xmas, we then concentrate on scuring fourth. We have a great end to the season, as liverpool used to every year they were out the league by xmas, which flatters to decieve the fans. Arsene talks about keeping the squad together next year and all the mugs in blog land say “this is his last window, I swear” Cesc fucks to Barca and would you believe it were back to square fucking one.

  42. luke

we arnt going to buy huntelaar. Wenger wont pay 16 million for a striker when we have so many other options. Quite frankly, dont think we need him. Id much rather get Hazard. Matuidi, Hazard, and Viera. That’d be sweeeeet!

  43. A

true choy, both lansbury and coquelin could fill in at right back, though i’d be a bit worried if sagna had a long term injury, but i guess the coaching staff will know much better than anyone else what stage in thei development they are, whether they could cope with being thrown in at the deep end.

If Senderos and Eboue go then I’d be absolutely shocked if £30-£40 mil isn’t spent on 2-3 players

  44. Maciek

Hello! We don’t need Huntelaar. We have Eduardo and Vela. If we do sign Matuidi, maybe we should also have make a bid for Dabo? He can play as a right back so could be useful. And we also need another central defender( Juhasz, Zapata, Bruno Alves).

  45. Maciek

A, mate. You don’t rate Sendy? For me he is better than Djourou and Silveste as well as Song as a cd.

  46. Stu

We need a DM. Thats all we NEED. But it would be good if we have a back up right back and maybe a striker but we have plenty of those as it is.

  47. luke

IMO we wont buy another center back. Wenger justified sellign Toure because he had too many CB’s… If we do buy another though, expect to see senderos or silvestre out!

  48. Stu

Ideally we would sign Yaya Toure, (someone like) Dario Srna and a versatile midfielder/defender.
And then release Silvestre, sell Diaby maybe and loan out Djourou.

Speaking of loans what kids are we loaning out for next season or has that yet to be decided.

  49. redbearer

Blaise Matuidi will be a fine signing if he comes in… Viera’s return on a pay by play basis would make a lotta sense too.. experience and coverage plus he will always be a big leader for us… on the pitch, in the dressing room, on the training ground.. we need leaders, we need winners!

  50. Maciek

Stu, considering that Sendy is off, are You happy with Gallas, Vermy, Djourou, Silver and Song? Are You? I’m not.

  51. Stu

The problem i have with our squad is that we have plenty of options for most positions but we have very few is any world class players.

I would much rather have Yaya instead of Denilsong and Diaby. And much rather a 1 world class defender instead of Silvestre, JD and Senderos.

We have quantity, just not quality.

  52. Stu

Maciek, im happy-ish. It fine with Gallas and Vermaelen but not the others. If one of the first choice get injured we are a bit screwed imo because JD isnt ready or good enough imo.
Silvestre is….well he is shit, cant saw much more than that honestly.
And Song..maybe not capable of being a full time defender. Emergency CB or against shite opposition but not consistently against big teams.

  53. A

Maciek I do rate Senderos, I just think he could well be going. If he doesn’t then there’s no way we’ll sign a centre back, even if he does I’d say it’s far from certain we will, just because Gallas and Vermaelen will be first choice, so whoever came in would be number three, and with Song, JD, and Silvestre we’d still have five centre backs without a new signing, and I can’t see Wenger giving up on JD anytime soon even though I consider him to be a lost cause.

Stu i’d say we’ve got quality in the first team, just not the squad. In the actual first team, i’d say our only positions without top class players are keeper, and DM, (withholding judgement on Vermaelen until he’s played ten premiership games).

It’s just the depth that lacks quality, up front we’ve got alot, and attacking midfielders, but defensively we’re very weak in terms of the depth of the squad, even though we’ve got alot of quantity there. I’m sure that’s the reason why Wenger is offloading the likes of Toure, and Senderos, to make space to bring in higher quality players, though I don’t know why JD is still at the club.

Song could turn out to be a quality centre back though, he looked really good when he played there end of 07/08, and in the 2 or so games in 08/09 he looked better than JD, and like he has some talent there

  54. A

Yeah stu – gallas and vermaelen are fine, but if any of them were injured for a good part of the season then song is a risk, and jd is a liability. Though our 3rd choice centre back for the invincibles season was cygan do it could be fine with those four and silvestre as emergency cover!

  55. jules

    Stu

Hoorah , well done mate , being saying it on here till blue in the face ,

6 centre halfs but not the right player ,

    3 midfielders , none good enough !!!!

quantity yes , world class quantity , no where near

04 to now . just look back at that side , no where near now mate .

  56. Paulinho

Regarding this Daniele De Rossi thing and his name being put on the site temporarily, apparently the same thing happened days before we signed Merida and Reyes.

So maybe it might have legs, or maybe not.

  57. A

Paulinho the screenshot of him being on there was a picture of henri lansbury so it was almost certainly just photoshopped

  58. Stu

I remember in Jan some Leeds youth who was linked with Villa appeared on their official site and everyone was talking about it. But nothing happened so that was obviously just a load of bollocks. Just like this De Rossi malarkey!

  59. A

i know you weren’t saying he was good, just saying – he’s a funny one, let villa have him to replace barry, not sure he’s even good enough for the prem, he was half the player in league one that keith andrews was!

The De Rossi thing is silly, the picture is ridiculous, having lansbury there

  60. SteveW

Never posted here before but this made me laugh.

“What a bunch of over optimistic cunts… read the comments section… AKB’s make me die”

Can someone inform me if he is dead yet.

  61. Jaguar

The only reason why Calamity Bramble plays in the premier league,is because of his relief to see another worse player ,playing as a LB/CB for Arsenal,in the form of Silvestre.

  62. Stu

Bramble is the worst kind of calamity defender. He plays every game but loses his concentration so much. You would think a run of games would stop that but it doesnt.

  63. A

I think of him as similar to JD Stu – He has great physical attributes, does loads of really good blocks and last ditch tackles, but is guaranteed to gift the opposition a very good goalscoring chance every match. JD still has time to iron that element out of his game, but I don’t think he will.

  64. Jaguar

    A
Even with the whole optimism in this world, what makes you think,JD wont iron out those errors. To me,he looked pretty much impressive, when he was in the centre, and 22 years is too young for a CB.

  65. Stu

22 is too young to be consistent for a defender obviously but at that age you would certainly know if they are capable of being world class or whatever. Senderos was amazing in most games at a young age, he still has that potential but its apparent that arsenal isnt the best club to learn how to defend at.

  66. ReVELAtion

Someone at the Independent has been listening to annoymous and is trying to get on it

Arsene Wenger’s preferred midfield target this summer is the Roma and Italy midfielder Daniele De Rossi, and despite the Italian club’s reluctance to sell Arsenal have not given up hope that Roma’s perilous financial position could force a sale.

Like Liverpool’s pursuit of De Rossi’s Roma team-mate Alberto Aquilani, the player’s future is bound up with the financial problems of the club and the long-term plans of the Sensi family who own it. De Rossi, 26, is regarded as the most important player at the club behind Francisco Totti and is valued at around £30m, which is far in excess of any transfer fee paid by Arsenal in the past.

While De Rossi’s reputation in England is not distinguished because of some of Roma’s less than impressive Champions League performances in recent years, he is regarded in Italy as one of the country’s finest players.

    *

De Rossi is the combative midfielder that Arsenal have lacked since the departure of Mathieu Flamini, albeit a much more sought-after individual than the French player. Wenger has considered him before but regards the valuation placed on him by Roma as unrealistic.

The suggestion that Wenger is prepared to bring his former captain Patrick Vieira back to the club has been privately dismissed, although it would now appear that the Internazionale player has decided against a move to Arsenal’s rivals Tottenham.

After an informal approach from Harry Redknapp last month, Vieira had expressed a willingness last month to explore the move but he has since changed his mind. Subsequently, Vieira, 33, had hoped that rather than spoil his reputation as an Arsenal great by joining Tottenham he would like to return to the club where he made his name.

That was communicated to Wenger, who sold the player to Juventus in 2005, but the message that came back to Vieira was that Arsenal were not interested in a deal.

As far as De Rossi’s future is concerned, Roma are in crisis after a proposed takeover by the football agent, Vinicio Fioranelli, who was representing a Swiss conglomerate, collapsed last month.

He was to have paid £166m for the Sensi family’s controlling 67 per cent stake but since that deal broke down, the Sensi family have found themselves under investigation by regulators of Italy’s financial markets.

Efforts are being made to sell some of the team who finished sixth in Serie A last season and beat Chelsea 3-1 at home in the Champions League in November.

  67. A

I just don’t think he has the intelligence Jaguar. Neither the footballing intelligence, nor the general intelligence when you hear him speak in interviews gives me any confidence he’s capable of working on his game and reaching the levels of concentration and decision making to even iron out the mistakes.

He hasn’t played a single 90 minutes for us without gifting the opposition a goalscoring chance, and I can’t see how he’ll manage the levels of concentration required to stay on the top of his game for all 90 minutes.

    Hope I’m wrong though.

  68. Keith

I have been reading the posts on this site for the last couple of days and whilst I dont believe the rumour started by Anonymous re De Rossi, however it just shows the power of blog sites because I have just seen on NewsNow website that the Independent newspaper is running an article that we are in for De Rossi.

  69. Jaguar

    A
I think 22 years is still too young for a defender, and most of the defenders, prosper between the age of 22-24,and peak between the age of 25-30.If Titus Bramble could prosper from one of the worst ever defenders in the world,to be Wigan’s player of the season,in a space of two years, why cant JD emulate it?

  70. A

Yeah I agree Jaguar, but Bramble just hasn’t improved, he’s always been like he is now, which is where JD is. He just played for worse teams so was under more pressure, he always did really good things, but bad things too, just like JD.

IMO JD, Bramble, and Rio were all pretty similar at a very young age, though rio developed quicker than the other two, but at the very start all had physical attributes, and did very good defensive work, but all were capable of making horrific errors and lapses of concentration.

Rio and Bramble did the complete opposite, Rio improved hugely, totally sorted out that side of his game, and became one of the best in the world, Bramble remained as someone who could do very good things but still potentially gifted the opposition a goal every game.

I think at best JD could come somewhere in between those two, that’s what I hope he could become, but he’s far too stupid to ever iron out the glitches completely.

As you say though he is young so could still develop a hell of a lot

  71. BOY BETTER KNOW

revelation that anon prick said we will announce the signing of him on sunday which is utter bollocks as it stands, the gossip in the papers just makes it seem coincidental, can’t see it happening what so ever

  72. goonerpress

What would you guys do if we really do announce the signings of De Rossi and Villa on Sunday. Unveiled at the end of the Emirates Cup infront of the crowd.

  73. A

It’s funny isn’t it, you really can create any gossip on the internet and papers will pick up on it! The person who created the De Rossi thing must be loving it!! It’s like the Palacio story

  74. goonerpress

The Papers source is us bloggers. They scour the internet for information. Nobodys gonna slag em off if the rumours aint true, they will just take their chance with em. If they turn out to be true, they will take all the credit. At the end of the day, they wanna sell their papers and thats what they do but because of us.

  75. Paulinho

I wonder of the ‘confidentiality’ agreement explains the rather strange tone of the Sam Wallace article.

  76. A

yeah gp – yet some people point to the rumours, and say look, there’s no smoke without fire, there must be interest etc!! If only there weren’t the silly people who believed every rumour to be true, then we’d be able to get rid of so much of the sensationalist completely made up stories!

  77. goonerpress

Very true A. The papers play with our desires.

    This is their typical day:

Worker at the Sun to another worker: Just went on Le-Grove. A wants Villa, BBK wants Hangelaand, and GP wants De Rossi

Other worker: Get in! Shit loads of information that is. Lets fuck around with them

    The following day…..

Arsenal linked with major moves for De Rossi, Villa and Hangelaand (The Sun)

    a few minutes later

Arsenal linked with major moves for De Rossi, Villa and Hangelaand (The Daily Mirror)

    a few hours later

Arsenal linked with major moves for De Rossi, Villa and Hangelaand (Sky Sports)

Meanwhile….. Le-Grove is buzzing and everyone is crazy.

The next day Wenger is questioned…

    ‘I didn’t read it’

  78. Jaguar

    A
I agree with you.Even SS published that (Rodrigue) Palacios rumour. It was just a hoax manipulated by some one. This certainly could be one.And regarding the Matuidi rumours,I cant figure out, where Arsene is gonna play him. What I could figure out was that,he is a player, who would be infront of the defence, more of a ‘makelelesque’ player(Goodness me,hasnt that term become a cliche!).If we are gonna employ Denilson/Song in that line up,its obvious that,we would have to push Cesc further up,which has already backfired, from what we could infer.

  79. A

Jaguar Matuidi would be signed to take Denilson’s place, or play alongside him in a game where Wenger thought we’d need to be more defensive. He’s said that he considers Song a centre back, so Denilson really is the only DM, and although Song can cover there, he’s away for an important 6 weeks in January/Feb, so we need another DM. I’d expect him to come in a la sagna and be first choice ahead of Denilson very quickly, playing next to Cesc

  80. gooner_b11

A and stu…..i was looking at those stats you left on senderos and none of them fill me with confidence at all, yeah we were bad without him, from what you’re showing me here, we weren’t that good with him either, if you said we’d conceaded 35 goals in 54 starts i’d be alot more confident. and stu to a degree your right about 22 as an age except the exceptional one do show signs of consistency at 22, adams did back in that day, and to the present day chiellini became consistent at 22

test I have a feeling West Ham will pick him up very very cheap. It usually happens. Lets say around £5m-8m. That is a very good price for him considering his talent. Zola can help to sort out his attitude problems and help to set him on his way to being one of the best young strikers in football.

  82. test

Am I buzzing A? its late but i swear Zola is talking about signing him, Zola – Balotelli? I must be buzzing!

  83. Stu

I know we will need the incoming DM to be capable of joining in with the attacks but i personally dont think its vital. Someone that can play the simple pass would be enough imo.

The DM to protect the defence. Cesc to connect take the ball off the defence and give to the attackers and an AM to help the attack. 3 CMs and the system will be perfect.

I dont care where the DM comes from (as lng as its withun europe). I would like someone thats experienced with winning tho with a (relatively) high expectancy level. A top team from Russia or Ukraine or Croatia etc etc.

  84. test

I watched Inter alot and I have seen him and Ibrahimovic live on several occasions.

    1st off:

Attitude or not Super Mario is a “potential” prospect that I would crawl over glass to sign. Hopefully Wenger sees a bit of George Weah in him and nips in to sign the guy. He can play Right wing or right side where Bendtler played the other day.

    2nd :

Alot of people have given Ibrahimovic stick “eto is better” blah blah, this is one very underated player. I think people will be suprised how well he does in laliga next year.

Super Mario at the hammers, I thought the fuckers were broke?

  85. gooner_b11

ultimately arsenal isn’t the place be anymore to develop your game as a young centre back, i belive senderos is the right type of defender as i’ve always belived to have the right balance you need a sweeper and a stopper, brains and brawn, one getting close and one dropping off 5yards. that’s what united have in vidic and ferdinand, problem being senderos’s development has 1) stalled with a lack of the right teachers around him 2)the more the drogbas, the torres’s the yakubu’s and now even ade….shit on him the more his confidence is in pieces

  86. ReVELAtion

Juve had just signed Carecas on loan from barca for a year with view to buy.. I’ve stuck a sneaky fiver of Chiellini turning up at arsenal..

  87. test

I have to get some kip, I will have a fucking stroke tomorrow morning in the gym.

I look forward to coming on here Sunday to discuss our two new wonder signings………

    Laters.

  88. Stu

Rev, the problem, with that it that players from other leagues and for so many different teams are so well known now because of Media coverage, internationals constant media speculation etc.

Chances are whoever we buy will be heard of because of one of the above factors.

I dont care if i dont know the player well as long as they are quality and ready to lead the team.

  89. Jaguar

    A
Well, strangely, during a phase, last season,we had kept too may clean sheats,to the surprise of many. But most of them were 0-0(2 dropped points every game, which is almost equivalent to a loss).Denilson and Song, wouldnt work, because Denilson is primarily an attacking mid,and he was forced to do the job of a CDM,by Wenger. So I wont blame him for running like a headless chicken all over the pitch because defending is NOT really his job.
Song on the other hand, performed well as a midfielder at Charlton and Cameroon. But strangely,AW counts him as a CB.

If Matuidi, comes in,would you expect him,to supply all those pinpoint passes from the centre,to our strikeforce upfront?

  90. Stu

Caceres is useless. Barca spend like 16m for him and it was a total waste of money because he rarely played and when he did he left a lot to be desired. Im not suprised Barca are getting rid but i assume they will want some of that money back.
