So it now looks like we are about to lose Kolo and Eboue, I have to say I’m not too bothered as Kolo is not the Kolo of old and Eboue is a right back that is basically a back up to Sagna.
Both will be going to the ACN so we would have lost them in the business end of the season anyway, add Ade to that and it’s not all bad, however, and there is a big HOWEVER, losing them to our biggest rival is not so clever and losing them without replacing them would be completely stupid and the biggest mistake in Arsenal’s history, even bigger than buying GLENN HELDER.
We will have some £49 million to spend in the event they go and that is half way to the famous £100 million that Wenger said if he had, he would be stupid not to spend it, so I believe he will spend it and surprise everyone.
The mystery to me is these two have been the subject of going for the whole summer now, so why leave it so long? It also seems odds on we will be selling Senderos as well, so that £49 could well turn into £58 million.
We could fill our boots with that sort of cash and bring in the players we have been dreaming of all summer, like David Villa and Alonso, or Huntelaar and Toulalon or Hangeland and Matuidi, or Numbchucks and De Rossi, the list goes on, and I would be happy with any of them, but I will be devastated if we sign no one.
This money isn’t far off what Usmanov was offering us, and that may be why Arsene and the board turned it down, with the players we could lose against the players we could bring in, it could be the difference between us winning the league or us finishing 5th, it really is in our hands and with all the other teams seemingly having finished their business, it could make us the only team in the park with a bag of cash and given that we won’t be competing with anyone, it won’t cost us a fortune to buy what we need, so much choice, so much money and the big stick.
This could be the week we’ve all be waiting for, nay dreaming of, dare we?

I don’t think we will sign a CB, we have “6″, Song, Djourou, Gallas, Vermealen, Silvestre. Not bad, not great, possibly good enough.
Song has to be regarded a CB as i can’t see him playing DM much this season.
However, if Wenger said, we will sign one defensive player, and one striker (likely).. what defensive position would you have him fill? CB? Meaning Song will play DM more often, or, A Defensive Mid, meaning he won’t..

Might I say that I am a bit worried if we sell the 2 or 3 players and not bring anyone in. Wenger said that he already has 5 CBs without Kolo and that worries me that he might not buy one. You guys keep saying that they will go to the ACN, but that is one month out of 9 that a season lasts. What about we lose them and by January we are way behind (Asspurs last year)?
As you post it, if we sell we MUST buy 2-3 players, and I will be devastated too if we don’t.

Pedro – I beg to differ, i think at the end of last season Song looked impressive in midfield, and could be good enough at CB, i think he may be- but i could be wrong. While i agree with 99% of the posts on this site, i think Song in underated by the majority.
Djourou will feature next season, i’m reasonably confident about that..
The bottom line is Song and Denilson are not ready, nor never may be to start every game. They are good versatile squad players and should be treated as such right now. Wenger thrust them too early last season and it was a colossal mistake. Will he learn this time around or shoot himself again??

Manchester City are closing on a deal to sign Arsenal’s Ivoirian defender/midfielder Kolo Toure, as they bid to break into the top 4 (and thus a Champions League spot) this season.
Man City are now considered Arsenal’s biggest rivals for a champions league spot and some will be questioning Wengers wisdom is selling to a direct rival.
It could though be a case of Arsenal offloading players that Wenger simply does not see as beneficial to a team seeking Champions League football and it can be argued if anything he is handicapping Man City with these transfers.

With regards to the Toure deal it was initially though the deal would be worth £12m before recent news emerged that the deal reached is worth £14m for Toure to join ex-teammate Adebayour in their quest for titles after having spent a lot of time with the financially handicapped Gunners without collecting any major silverware.
Both are set to leave the Citizens though to play in the African Cup of nations next January, and this could’ve been one reason why Arsene Wenger agreed to sell the players.
However, even with the incoming cash from such deals, Wenger still claims Arsenal will not be active in the market, and it appears as if Arsenal are becoming a new Ajax Amsterdam of late, signing only young talents for minimal cost and selling them as they are ripe for profit.
With so many departures and no proper replacement coming in; the fans are starting to worry that Arsenal days in the top 4 are numbered, and it remains to be seen who’s leaving the club next. Fabregas? Van Persie? Or maybe even the young Mexican Vela as he did great with his national side in the Gold Cup recently held in the US.

so with 50 mil plus to spend what do we want him to do…
a) throw the whole lot at chelsea and ask for essien
b) spend half on a top DM and anopther good chunk on a top CB. loose change on a kid or two
c) his usual stuf and buy in a couple of 5-10m players and then moan about lack of quality in the market for a reason he didn’t spend the rest.
Rizzy-Song looked good in exactly how many games? Remember we had a fairly soft schedule as well at that time and he did fuck all in the big games that counted. I won’t deny he looked good in “some” games but I am sorry that does not make him first 11 Arsenal quality. Also, imo he has looked pretty ordinary in pre-season so far but I won’t judge him too much by that (although Wenger seems to be giving these friendlies a lot of importance).
i feel the changes in defence are needed kolo has not been kolo for long while when he was playing along side sole cambell he coloses but he is shadow of that and gallas is better,i would expect to further players leave senderos i feel with be off as will silvestor and maybe eboue,i am not in agreement with pedro though,every time i have seen song in cd back has always looked very solid but his time player either has been limited.the problem is gallas is going next season,so at the very least 1-2 more players will be comming.hargland isdefender that has been thrown in there he is kind of defender wenger will be looking for but as they are alot of defenders in europe for leeser price i dought wll gor for him.i feel overhaul in defence is very much needed,i feel wenger has time on side so i would expect 2-3 players out and may be 2-3 players in

I’m starting to think that we are very unlikely to see a new CB come into the club. The things that make me think this are:
- His comments about having so many CB’s.
- He has already signed a CB in Vermaelen.
- His ego wont let him admit defeat on Silvestre who is shit and Song who just can’t cut it.
Do we really think he’ll buy another CB if Senderos goes? I just can’t see it. I think he is more likely to sign a DM, whoever the fuck that may be, and probably a striker! Why a striker? because that is a position that doesn’t need filling. Ignoring key areas is what Wenger has been good at lately.

LAzer – Song is having done to him what Flamini had done to him, thats why i have faith. Flamini played his first season, and was all over the place. At the end of the season he performed well.. but going into Flamini’s “super” season people said we needed a new DM. He was playing at leftback, CM, DM, CB..
Song is a similar story, it was Song’s first season, he didnt play well in some games, however in the games he did play well is he did exactly what he needed him to do. All he lacks is consitency, confidence and support will supply that.
I agree he is NOT an arsenal 1st XI player, however he is good enough back up!

Tom, Diaby is not a CM in my opinion, he’s almost a 2nd striker, attacking CM, we got enough of those..
Denilson as a DM back up is good enough also, he was alright last season, but i do want another c.midfielder.
That also brings me to another point, people seem to have forgetten some of the SHOCKING decisions wenger made last season as to player positons, Diaby on Left wing for one.. two defensive midfielders in CM positions.. fabregas as a 2nd striker.. bad mistakes IMO.

I think Song will make a good CB, certainly as good as Kolo.
When he plays in midfield he looks like, well a CB playing in midfield, just imagine what Sol, JT, Vidic would look like playing there.
Gallas, Vermaelen, Djourou, Song are 4 good CBs – then we just need one beast to have 5 strong CBs.
Hangeland – Gallas is the partnership id like to see.
Then Hangeland – Vermaelen the season after.

A massive 17 days for the club , the manager , the futures of players like Arshavin and Fabregas.
I am hopeful around the Emirates Cup , we might welcome some fresh faces.
I am not worried regardless of losing Toure and Adebayor to City if we bring in a quality central midfielder.
Afterall why should we be bothered about Man City’s strength when if were good and solid which we will be with estute additions , we can outdo City be a mile.
Lets wait and give AW these 17 days , then if its still the same come Goodison Park , we can contemplate.
