Gossip grows, Kolo and Eboue off? Huntelaar and Cattermole in?

by & filed under Uncategorized.

The rumour mill is wild today with reports saying that Kolo is off to Man City, Eboue off to Italy and we are to sign Huntelaar and young midfielder Lee Cattermole.

Kolo at his age has one year left on his contract and the ACN coming up may not be bad business. He has lost some of his spark since he got malaria and he doesn’t get on with Gallas so maybe there’s some truth in it, I love Kolo but I won’t be devastated if this one is true and for £15mil, well I guess that represents good business.

Eboue on the other hand is a great right back and unless Wenger sees him as a midfielder I don’t see that as a great move, also that will make three departures and for a manager that said no one was going I have to cast some doubt on that rumour.

However, if all three are replaced properly and not from within, I wouldn’t be too upset, for instance if we got in Huntelaar and he did become that goalscoring machine it would be a shrewd move, if he replaced Kolo with a big strong centreback like Sakho or Zapata that would be a good move and if he brought in Cattermole for Eboue as a midfield replacement maybe that would combine his youth bit with the tenacious midfielder we crave, I just don’t know, but Cattermole did impress me at the under 21′s and he is a rising English star, dare I say it, but in the Nobby Stiles/ David Batty role.

Then we should think about selling Senderos and Silvestre as we will have more than enough cover with Djourou and Song in there.

You may all shout me down with Cattermole but this boy could be just what we need. Maybe this team is getting a bit stale and maybe replacing the trio of Ade, Kolo and Eboue makes sense.

We know Huntelaar can score, as he got the first ever goal at the Grove and we had Vieira, Henry, and Bergkamp in that game, maybe he needs the challenge after his nasty rejection by Madrid, what is clear is we do need a big lump at the back and maybe Kolo has run his course.

I just hope we do something, this team needs a change, we the fans are in need of some new faces to cheer on and maybe this will push us over the line to win the EPL this season. We will be fusing youth with experience and with Huntelaar, Vela, Robin, Theo, Arshavin and Bendtner around we won’t be short of goals, at least Huntelaar knows the offside rule.

I’m looking forward to the game tonight as hopefully we’ll get to see Eduardo, Arshavin and Rosicky in the same side, we won’t have Theo and Cesc back until the weekend so that will give him another chance to play Wilshere, Ramsey and Diaby, if Diaby can manage another game without an injury maybe I’ll start believing, he had a great game last time out so let’s see if he can continue tonight, Ramsey looked on fire, that’s for sure.

Watching YaYa at the weekend showed us what we could have had but there you go, we can’t dwell on the past, we need to bring in replacements for whoever we sell and if Kolo and Eboue go as well then we should have around £38 million left after the Vermaelen purchase, more than enough to bring in the fab three I mentioned. And leave some change over to help pay the National debt.

We’ll know more this week as I’m guessing all the transfer business will have to be concluded by the weekend when we host the Emirates cup.

Until tomorrow Grovers, enjoy tonight.

    Fair enough Rev…

If we dont sign someone…fair play to you for getting happy and excited and forgetting the fact that this is the same team that struggled to make top 4…and that the board inlcuding Gazidis started saying we dont need Champions League football…but then again…

    fair play to you mate.

  2. A

    lost ade

added arshavin and vermaelen, gotten eduardo and rosicky back from injury, and nasri, bendy, theo, vela, have another year under their belt.

imo we’re miles better than we were last year.

losing ade is also a positive in my eyes rather than a negative, like losing an anchor that was holding us back

  3. ReVELAtion

I want success as much as any other arsenal fan David.. Having certain players which we can debate on or we have a disliking to is each persons own perogitive.. But we didn’t struggle to make the top4, just struggled to maintain a title challenege.. Was it ever really in doubt villa would knock us out of it? No.. Spurs came closer a couple of years before that…

I agree the squad isn’t ideal if you like championship manager/pro evo esque line ups.. BUT it is arsenal and whilst those players wear the shirt they have my full back regardless of the circumstances…

What i will not do, is get the humph because Arsene won’t buy me the players I want nor salivate over flavours of the month like chamcack, cana, melo, matuidi, hunterlaar and any other player that, at this point in time, Does not play for arsenal…

  4. ReVELAtion

A< Adebayor's departure will be the making of bendtner regardless of the way he avoided the question at half time during the friendly ;)

david its amazing wat a couple of victories against no hopers does to morale

if we had lost those 2 games or even drawn them, i think fans would be saying we need to sign players, but 2 big wins and its all forgotton

maybe when we lose a few in the league and its to late to strengthen will people say we should have done more this summer

those 2 semi finals gave the club a great excuse for not needing to buy big

  6. A

mark i don’t think a single person would judge how competitive we’d be in the league on any pre season performances, it’s good that players are looking sharp, and on course regarding their match fitness but that’s it. The only thing i’ve witnessed people looking at these matches with far too much importance is people ridiculously claiming we’ve still got defensive problems, writing off vermaelen, and saying szezney is better than fabianski.

Not heard a single person say we don’t need to buy because of these performances

  7. MARK GOONER

we are stronger now as our players have an extra year under their belt?????

is that not the same for every other club/player in the world

    ———————————————————
No it isn’t.. We still need a top quality centre midfielder in there to start most games next to Cesc.. Nothing and no-ones performances in pre season will make me see it any other way.. Just because some are happy with an arsenal win (yes arsenal did win) doesn’t mean we do not acknowledge the squad is not yet the finished article..

  9. David

as i said fair play to you Rev…

But this team as is is not good enough. Chelsea are in the states on tour making somewhere between 7-10 milllion pounds playing the italian champions…and we are over here kidding ourselves with Szombathelyi?

Ofcoarse i support the Arsenal…the difference between you and me…or A, is that this team for 5 years and counting has always and is foreverly in danger of having…”another year under their belt” which utlimately has led us to this point that we are.

  10. ReVELAtion

David we are all frustrated at the lack of silverware and top class investment, but we do this every year.. Why should we change and money whore round the states playing clubs who choose to do the same…

The austria training camp has never come into question before.. So don’t start using it as a factor now…

  11. David

    I hear you Mark G.

Some of these Arsenal fans blindly support whatever is on the field…it could be Brittney spears in the shirt and it wont matter.

  12. A

Every arsenal supporter will support whatever is on the field david, that’s what being a supporter is….

criticise all you want the rest of the time, but when anyone steps out onto the field in a shirt he should be supported by every fan

  13. Ray in SF

    Bergkamp’s advice to Arshavin…

‘The advice is simple but important for any player who moves to the Premier League: give everything, fight all through the game – those are the qualities that the fans fall in love with. In England it’s not enough to be a talented player.’

  14. MARK GOONER

look i hope im proved wrong and bentdner scores 20 plus goals,
but by judging him on previous form that is very optimistic

if we signed huntelaar 2morow, even though he would still be a risk, you know that he has got it in him to be prolific
    not sure bendtner has yet

  15. David

Money whore ourselves playing top teams in the world?????

Christ. What kind of horrible excuse is that? We play the best in the world for an extra couple of millions…say 10 million that can be used to fund transfers since we are absolutely skint for pennies…and youre saying we are whoring ourselves?

There is a HUGE market for Arsenal fans to watch their team….ESPECIALLY in the States…I should know!

  16. A

David I see it as a massive plus that we are more concerned with the preparations for the season, and the football, than going out to the far east or states for more money.

  17. ReVELAtion

The Ibrahimovic deal just still mystifys me!!

Whilst Wenger is in charge we’ll be going to austria every year without fail.. There probably is a market for the yanks to watch up play soccer, but they have SKY and ATVO so they can make their donation ;)

  18. David

year older thing is bollocks….we cant always be waiting for players to come good and expect the rest of the league not to improve….for a young player to magically become great after 1 year better than the rest of the league who are also improving…is wishful thinking at its best. No wonder it has never worked for us.

    ============================

    Oh really A?

Because on evidence of the last 5 years…United 3 years in a row the champs…Chelsea 2 years the champs….all went “far and east”….didnt really seem to change things much now did it?

  20. Dan

What was the final score lads? arsenal.com are saying 6-0 and a few other sources are claiming 5-0 SSN included :S

  21. A

well it’s obviously not bollocks now is it david. You can’t rely on it but it’s pretty much a fact that young players improve from year to year as they get more experienced, and/or they adapt to the league if they come from abroad. Theo, bendy, vela, nasri were all better towards the end of the season than they were at the start, and that continues.

It has worked for us, henry, bergkamp, vieira, pires, hleb, petit, were all better as they got more time under their belt

  22. ReVELAtion

I know lansbury got the 1st and hoyte was dropped.. Murphy didn’t get a sniff.. How many did welbeck score?

  23. A

of course it did David, it isn’t going to be the deciding issue between winning the title or not, but obviously it’s better to do pre season in europe, teams would only go further afield for monetary reasons. It isn’t a massive thing, but I’m proud that we consider the preparations more important rather than selling out for financial gain.

  24. A

welbeck and delfounso got 2 each reva, briggs got one, lansbury one, not sure about the other? maybe ranger??

  25. ReVELAtion

come on david we all already know we don’t like spending money.. 28 1st class tickets to malaysia or the U.S? you’re having a laugh

  26. David

There are Arsenal fans all over the world that would pay good money to see their teams play….

Financially makes sense to do it.

And on evidence on the last 5 years it hasnt changed squat shite on who wins the league if anything all it proves is that it makes you better.

  27. David

are you joking with me? Seriously? i dont want to call you names honestly…

    you tell me…what costs more..

28 first class tickets or 10 million pounds.

  28. A

Yeah noone disagrees that there would be financial gains David, but it’s better for preparation that players stay in the same timezone, don’t travel long distances etc, and i’m proud the football is more important to us than the money

  29. ReVELAtion

I would say travelling further a field would make sense long term as other countiures supporters get to see their heroes like i do every week and for the financial reasons also obviously… But, with a CL qualifier close to the start the preperations are better suited in europe imo…

  30. ReVELAtion

come on david we all already know we don’t like spending money.. 28 1st class tickets to malaysia or the U.S? you’re having a laugh

    ———————————————————-
David, come on, i said that tongue in cheek obviously..

  31. MARK GOONER

normally im against all this usa china pre season shit

but as we are skint and it affects the strengthening of the squad, then we should do what we can to get money that will help

after all, ready made quality like arshavin comes at a price and thats what we need

  32. David

that doesnt make any form of sense…stay in Europe and play Szombatheshite….or travel…Earn money and play the best in the world…

It has never been deminental to any other team so why should it be Arsenal?
hahaha…wow…Im beginning to understand why the top 3 are always better than us now…if this is how the average fan thinks.

  33. ReVELAtion

Quality is the important word their MARK G. I’m all for a new central midfield signing, but if it’s going to be some of the shite we’ve been linked with, i’d rather we kept the money..

After Wenger’s “out his own arse talk” about not killing players like Diaby, Denilson & Song I will be extremely pissed off if he bought Cham-cack or Hunterlaar therfore killing Bendtner and Vela..

  34. ReVELAtion

David I agree with you about friendlies against better opposition.. I just stated that with a CL qualifier coming up it’d make more sense to prepare well close to home, also makes signings more accessible.. Not that that actually matters in our case :D

  35. MARK GOONER

weve been linked with shite because of our budget

if you go bond street with a fifty quid you aint coming home with bags of designer clothes

    huntelaar over bendtner any day

102 goals in 122 games speaks for itself

  36. A

I think huntelaar would score alot of goals mark, but goalscoring stats in holland never speak for themselves, they mean very little!

  37. MARK GOONER

8 goals in 9 starts for madrid
13 goals in 18 games for holland

and none of the above strikers mentioned had a record anywhere near as prolific as that in the dutch league

  38. A

I thought huntelaar had also scored goals in spain too, but the stats were very misleading, he actually did really pretty crap there.

Pedro what’s the deal with these accusations about my missing a guest blog?!

  39. Pedro

A… I don’t want to go into it right now… the embarrassment of an empty Sunday post is still pretty fresh…

    How could you?

  40. A

mark did you not just read what i wrote

    huntelaar was 102 in 122
    kezman was 105 in 122
alves was 45 in 39, over a goal a game

in spain huntelaar scored 8 goals, but 7 of them came in 4 games which were thrashings of very poor teams, probably not much more competitive than the game today! He scored one meaningful goal in spain

  41. rtist

Agree with David..went to the Chelsea v Inter match in Los Angeles..81,000 supporters…81,000!!..and I was surrounded by a huge Chelsea crowd..why not Arsenal?..and fuck givin my money to SKY..

  42. ReVELAtion

MARK those stats are pretty good i cannot lie.. But we don’t need to spend 17m on a striker inlue with an 80k a week contract…

    Other areas need addressing 1st:

    top class centre midfielder
centre back that can header and is over 5ft 11
    natural winger

Then maybe we can think about a striker…

  43. MARK GOONER

ok when he ends up in milan we will see how crap he is

    im out of here

all this bendtner loving is embarrasing

  44. Pedro

Rtist, that is a pretty impressive crowd!

It’s a good point… I think by scrounging on players you miss out on the bigger picture… NEW FANS!

Mind you, I don’t think we really have any marketable postions up for grabs?

The holding role is never going to attract new fans!

  45. A

yeah mark – 7 of them came in just 4 games, against very easy opposition, 3 braces and one single goal, all in thrashings of other teams, and one other goal.

you’ve also got your stats mixed up, it was 8 goals in 13 starts. Still impressive when you look at them like that, but it’s like saying ade is amazing because he scored 6 goals in just 2 games against derby.

  46. ReVELAtion

MARK G is it really an embarrasment to support players that actually play for you and not salivate over some who do not?

Your Hunterlaar love in is the only embarassment..

  47. ReVELAtion

Pedro, you said it.. Nikki B is going to become something of a demi-god at arsenal.. I’ve already prepared the human sacrifice.. BRING IN SONG!!!

  48. Pedro

    haha, I like that sacrifice!

I honestly think Nik will be a powerful player this season… if he gets a bit of composure in front of goal, he could prove to be very important.

Did Geoff say he had 25 in 40 starts or something?

  49. David

    rtist

The game in Maryland I was surrounded by Arsenal fans..they wore their jerseys to the Chelsea game! rofl….got a few contacts too! :D

I just think its stupid really….yes we prb need to stay in Europe to for the CL qualifiers…but memory serves me correctly we NEVER travel on tour to take advantage of the massive markets….”whoring ourselves”…its a win=win for fan and club situation!

  50. A

yeah but it means sacrificing preparation David, even if it isn’t a massive impact, jet lag still has an effect on players, and i’d much prefer us to concentrate at being the very very best we could be, than make money.

  51. ReVELAtion

David if you’d rather kalou upfront than bendtner your nuts.. I thought you’d put up a pretty good case for ahting bendtner until that comment.. What next? Martins!

  52. ReVELAtion

A, you’re also nuts.. Kalou isn’t good enough to start up front or in midfield for us… I’d only rather have him start on the right instead of eboue and even then i’d have to seriously think about it..

  53. A

it has a longer impact on your body david, 4-5 days, slight variations in muscle performance i remember reading something about it. Not massive, but every little helps.

  54. A

obviously he wouldn’t be a regular starter reva, but i’d take him as a 7 mil pound squad player if we could get him for that, add a bit of depth.

  55. David

Im speaking from personal experience A,

I understand your concerns but it will no more effect a player that flies out on international duty and is back to join the first team….they are used to it is what im saying?

  56. A

yeah i know david, and i’m going on scientific research. I’ve had personal experience of jet lag too funnily enough, but i’m not a top sportsman, and even if i was i wouldn’t be able to tell the tiny differences in my muscle performance!

Exactly re international duty, it’s why playing for mexico is a real fucker for vela, and why his development with us has been really held up! also why gilberto couldn’t play alot of saturdays after midweek international matches.

  57. David

Kalou would be perfect on the wings for an injured nasri or an ineffective theo…not as a replacement for Bendy rev…

  58. kenny smith

I dont want Kalou…. will be just another player we would lose to the ACN and to be honest i dont see how he’s any better than what we have….

  59. David

Yes A but Sagna slotted straight back into the team for our midweek matches when playing on saturday?

    Sagna is a perfect example.

Kenny Kalou scored more goals and had more assists than Nasri and Theo combined coming off the bench for chelsea…thats how good he is.

  60. A

i wouldn’t say a perfect replacement david, but he could certainly be an effective player out wide, and could also play up front. He’d be pretty low down in the pecking order but would provide depth

  61. Coadsi

    Excerpt
…………. Champion Manchester United, which is owned by the American Glazer family, has debts of more than $1 billion, Chelsea’s obligations to owner Roman Abramovich from his interest-free loans are more than $560 million, while Arsenal’s debt has soared to some $525 million.

  62. A

sagna is french david…. he’e the opposite of a perfect example for your argument, he shows that staying in europe means that you can slot straight back in!

  63. David

Ah which was why you used Vela as an example i guess? Right I see..but I would argue that it also has something to do with the fact that he isnt a first team member as of yet?

  64. kenny smith

David, doesnt Kalou play either left or right of a front 3 usually??? and sometimes as main striker??? cause last time i checked chelsea play a 4-3-3???

Nasri and theo played as out and out wingers in most games last season…. no comparison

  65. kenny smith

and even then both theo and Nasri are both played out of position… Nasri is a CM and was played out on the left most games and theo is a striker playing out on the right so playing players out of position will inevitably see them having shit stats compared compared to playing someone in their strongest position

  66. David

*sigh*…im not having that conversation again Kenny…sorry mate….When chelsea twacked us at the FA cup semi final did they play a 4-3-3?

  67. rtist

Los Angeles was stacked with Chavs…and Italian wannabees…me and my girl were there in Arsenal colors..and there were LOTS of Arsenal jerseys in the crowd..as for the jet lag-training,etc..hate to say it but Chelsea looked fit..and they are back in London soon right?..the chance for Arsenal fans to see the team-those who may never travel to London, etc. trust me when I say: the thought of 50-80 thousand Arsenal fans would surprise the team and, dare I say it, even Mr. Wenger..

  68. David

So what your saying is because Nasri and theo are being played out of position they wont be as effective as Kalou on the wing.

I think youve answered your own questions there mate.

  69. kenny smith

sigh whats the point in saying im not having that conversation again and then asking me that question. You have contradicted yourself. I can not remember what system they played in the FA semi. But it was probably 4-3-3 as its the only formation they ever play

  70. David

Chelsea played a 4-4-2 as you contradicted yourself in post 22:11 with Malouda who scored on the left wing…and Kalou usually replaces him…and when they do play a 4-3-3 they put Essien and Mikel both as holding midfielders so the rest can play around however which way they like!

  71. kenny smith

CHELSEA DONT EVER PLAY WITH WINGERS SO YOU CAN NOT COMPARE. PUT KALOU IN A 4-4-2 AND PLAY HIM RIGHT OF LEFT WING AND HE’D BE SHITE!!!

PUT HIM IN THE FORWARD LINE OF A 4-3-3 AND HE WILL SCORE GOALS AND GET ASSISTS BUT SO WUD THEO!!!!

  72. David

Chelsea played in a 4-4-2 in the FA cup final that Malouda scored…and Kalou almost scored….you can have a heard attack with those caps…but you sure dont know your facts.

  73. Ray in SF

the rule of thumb for recovering from jet lag is one day per time zone

I’m with rtist, it would be fantastic to see the team play here in LA in front of 50/80k red shirted supporters

  74. kenny smith

David… i can not comment on that particular game as id have to watch it again cause i can not remember that well that game… but ill bet any amount of money you want that 90%
at least of chelsea’s games last season they played 4-3-3-

  75. David

If chelsea dont play with wingers wow….fuck me…i wonder what Malouda, Kalou, Joe Cole are…they most be all strikers.

  76. David

And im telling you for a FACT that they DONT ALWAYS play in a 4-3-3 because they didnt with Liverpool they didnt with Arsenal…and they didnt with Barcelona!

  77. kenny smith

Oh right i dont know my facts…. so kalou almost scored in the fa cup semi against us so that makes him ace…. i seem to rememeber us being beat on that day by yet another long ball for Drogba’s goal and a keeper fuck up by Fabianski who shud of saved malouda’s goal.. so it wasnt the fact that they played 4-4-2… if you exchanged us for the mancs after going 1-0 up they wouldnt of lost that game.

  78. rtist

Ray..what I thought was great (and I am NOT a Chelsea fan,ok?)..there were sooo many Londoners who traveled to the States with their wives and kids and friends and followed the team to every venue in the US!!..I would do the same should the Arsenal EVER change their stiff collared ways and travel abroad..in the mean time, will be in England in March 2010 to see 2 matches…cannot wait..

  79. Swedish Gun

    RE: Hangeland vs Senderos

IMO Hangeland is MUCH better than Senderos

He has better understanding of the game, positioning, mobility, heading, passing, pace and u name it!!

  80. A

lol confident, that’s a good one, why would someone put that on youtube?! i assume that was a joke rather than you trying to be serious?!

  81. David

Ok so now your saying formation has nothing to do with the fact that we lost? Ok…if thats the case then throw that out of the argument completely because whatever the formation..

Kalou scores more goals than Nasri and Theo combined comming off the bench. FACT.

  82. kenny smith

this is how chelski usually line up

    ————-cech————–

    Boswinga—terry–alex–cole—

    ———essien————
    ballack——Lampard

    Anelka————–Malouda
    ——–Drogba————-

Now david with exception of personel that is the formation they play week in week out the premier league.. they only ever change it when the go to the Nou camp to play for a draw or a cup game so check any premier league game from last season or the season before and 90% + that is the formation they play….. they only changed it occasionally after hiddink took charge. he is the only manager in recent years that has occasionally played a 4-4-2

  83. kenny smith

And david no not putting formations out of the arguemtent… i just struggle to see how you can compare players that play in two totally different formations

  84. kenny smith

Chelsea played a 4-4-2 in a handfull of games last season at best… The rest of the time they play 4-3-3- and dont say they dont cause you know fine well they do…. just cause they played a 4-4-2 against us in the fa cup semi doesnt justify kalou being ace on the wing for the whole season when they played 4-3-3- for most of it~!!!

Its past my bed time and its pointless talking to you. nite everyone

  85. Swedish Gun

Huntelaar is 3,4,5 times the player Bendtner is, so we should snap him up asap

Bendtner may or may not come good in a couple of years

Eduardos and V.Persies injury records almost demands we do

  86. bk

A striker is way down our list of priorities at the moment.Scoring has never been our biggest problem keeping a clean sheet has as well as not bossing games like we should. That all starts in defence.

  87. Swedish Gun

    A

we need someone in the box, we need a player who wants to be at the end of a pass..to score goals

we don’t need a striker who thinks he is a playmaker and drifts wide

  88. Swedish Gun

but this is ofcoz a luxury problem

we desp need that worldclass midfield enforcer and we still need a tall commanding centreback

  89. A

yeah we do swedish, our entire system is built around exactly that, everyone being able to drift wide, drift deep, rotate with each other. One big reason ade was sold is because he can’t do that, we’d never replace him with someone else who’s incapable of doing it.

Bendy’s gotten alot more clinical after his mid season nightmares, he misses no more chances than the likes of vp.

I’d have him over Huntelaar everytime for us. Though for another team Huntelaar could be better depending on the style of play
