Two new signings imminent – Ade stalling – all new FANTASY GROVE!

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Morning Grovers! I thought as it’s the third day of nothingness… a post from me might be due!

So, the City/Ade saga rumbles on in the same manner every transfer Arsenal get involved with does. However, my concern isn’t with Ade, it’s with the fans running scared… phoning into talksport like little girls,

‘Oh Wrighty, I’m so worried that unless Arsenal spend £200million we’ll finish 9th and City will win the league.’

My opinion is that City have not bought well and I think it’s going to end trophyless and Champions leagueless this year.

The spending spree City have embarked on is unacceptable, vulgar and a touch embarrassing (Did anyone see Gary Cook hugging Tevez like he’d just resurrected a 23 yr old George Best? Scroll to 1.13 here)?

The sums of money being spent seem ludicrous coming from people who pass themselves off as businessmen. If I had a million pounds in my bank account and Tesco tried to charge me £15 for a loaf of bread, I’d go to another shop… it appears the Sheiks have learned nothing from Abramovich’s demise into a public hate figure.

Here is what I think of their signings and potential buys:

Barry: Not good enough to keep Villa in 4th place, has no pedigree or track record.

Tevez: His goal tally speaks for itself… piss poor. A Headless chicken who can nick the odd goal… there is a reason Ferguson didn’t resign him and after bringing in £80mill, I suspect it wasn’t money.

Terry: If Chelsea don’t bite Cities hand off for the £45million, they are even more inept than I thought. Terry is a trouble maker and he’s past it. I read that Mourinho didn’t want to sanction an 8 year deal because he thought JT was past his prime… an opinion that eventually resulted in a P45. Terry is a classic nouveau riche signing… the lottery winning equivalent of buying a hot tub, a hummer limo or Versace wallpaper

Adebayor: I’ve read a few stories about the real reason behind the move… some think it’s because Manchester is a pleasant place to live this days, others say he over heard Phil Brown say Tigers were based up there… However, others believe something more sinister has has been brewing… that perhaps the Arsenal fans lack of appreciation for the world class talent that is Adebayor has diminished to unbearable lows…

£170K p/w

… and this is an important point that needs to be raised, because at the end of the day, Ade is a human being with feelings… once you’ve looked past the poor first touch, the constant straying offside and the farcical arrogance, you’ll see a timid boy from the wrong side of the tracks whose just trying to make enough corn to feed his 20 strong entourage and half his village back home.

Take a moment to think about that next time you feel the need to slag him off.

Anyway… he’ll score a few goals, most at the start of the year to make us worry that we’ve let Pele go, but then it’ll tail off and city will have another bad, over paid egg to contend with…

So, the blues have people running scared… for me though, money isn’t scary unless it’s spent well. You can spend your entire war chest on the best swords money can buy, but if the people you are fighting have guns… they’re going to trounce you… the way I see it, City are buying everyone else’s swords… and the top 4 will spend that cash on more guns… leaving City in a pretty embarrassing situation next summer… yes… gunless with crocked swords.

There you have it, I’ve put it out there, this could be a real egg on face moment, but I really don’t believe City have spent well enough to displace any of the top 4.

In other news, we’re close to signings a couple of 15 years olds… what a way to kick start your weekend eh! One is English and he’s called Jamie Edge… some say he has the best name since Tom Cruise, others believe his talent will allow him to surpass Nacer Barazite, so watch out guys. The second guys is Batrovic… we’ll all be drooling over by the summer of 2015… he’s been dubbed the new Messi, but after watching him on youtube, I’d liken him to the next Van Den Berg… let the good times roll I say…

I’ve also gotten word from my trusted sources at the BBC, who have been tipped off by their trusted sources at the daily star, who made up that Arsenal were tempting Hangeland to Emirates using Big Phil as giant cumbersome bait… Now there’s a deal that makes sense.

Fulham get a semi decent player looking to resurrect his career in a rigid defensive system, Arsenal get a player who is the Captain of Norway and has revitailised Fulham who is now looking to make the jump… I’ve been personally scouting this guy for a while, he might not be Linford Christie out of the starting blocks, but he reads the game well and he is a no nonsense style defender who wont break down and cry after a bad game, he’s also got a great track record and he is young enough to kick onto the next level.

Let me just tell you how good that track record is. His signing in Jan 2009 helped Fulham narrowly avoid relegation. This season he was a major cog for the 4th best defence in the league, conceding only 34 goals (Compared to our 37). If we are judging him on the facts, those are exceptional facts… and lets be fair, he’s playing in a tougher league than Vermaelen and for a weaker side.

Just before I go, I thought I’d tell you that I was walking through a cemetary a little earlier and I saw weird man hiding behind a gravestone. I said, ‘Morning!’ He replied, ‘No, just having a shit’.

I hope I just made your life with that one… Happy Friday Grovers!

P.S. It’s that time of the year again where we all get a bit macho and talk up our chances of winning the Fantasy Grove!

If you were in it last year, you’ll need to go back in and select your team again. We had over 300 people in the league last year and apparently it was won by a Chav… so the cap and case of Peroni roll over a for another year.

Though Bendtner and Eboue getting booed was absolutely disgraceful, as is booing any player during or before a match. Fans sentiments now towards ade is very justified for a number of reasons.

  2. Maciek

Hi guys. Stu, I disagree. Eto’o is a very good player but he can waste many chances. Zlatan seems to be lazy but his link up play is really great. He can score as many goals as Samuel and even contribute more to the team than Eto’o. And I’m not a big fan of Ibras talent. Besides, Eto’ has only one year left in his contract, and the Swede has them 4. Something tells me that Eto’o will be a failure in Italy. As for Hleb,You know his stats.Just my opinion.
Here in Poland, many of Inter’s supporters knows that even with 40 milion euroes to spend from the swap deal, they will be weaker than they have been before.

  3. gazzap

ade is a cutn because he told city he needed a couple of days to think about the effect a move would have in AFrica, and then his agents uses those two days to try and get another club involved in the bidding. what a complete twat. luckily wenger has told him he wont be coming to Arsenal. i cant beleive ade has to think about 150k a week!! no one else wants the useless fucker.

  4. Stu

I think the reason we are unhappy with more players than other clubs fans are with theirs is because we have more shit players than them. And our fans are frustrated because of so many seasons without a trophy and without being up their at the end of the season.

  5. SUGA3

dunno, but we have quite a few characters amongst us Gooners – Johnny Rotten, Fidel Castro and allegedly Awesoma bin Laden to name a few…

  6. Maciek

SUGA, I’m jealous. I would love to be “in Your shoes”. I hope that Rosicky and Arshavin with Vermaelen will start.Have a good time and stay safe.

  7. SUGA3

that is a sweet tune, eboue – this album is one of my favourites in my record case…

I used to DJ quite a lot and still have decent hip hop and D’n'B collection as well as a pair of decks at home :)

  8. A

Pat he was booed alot through the course of the season, after he stormed down the tunnel claiming he was injured, throwing the tantrum when he was subbed etc. He got a cold reception alot, though obviously nothing the same scale as the ridiculous treatment of Eboue, and Bendtner to a lesser extent.

It’s not because their fans are better or ours are worse, how extreme the booing was stems from the fact that arsenal fans were much much more unhappy about the general way things were going, and all that negative sentiment was passed onto eboue or bendtner with their being scapegoated. With Utd it was the same, but much less negative sentiment.

Still can’t believe Villa booing Agbonlahor, however shit he was how could they be unhappy when they’d overachieved to such an extent?!

  9. SUGA3

    will do, mate :)

I have to work tomorrow, but I said I am leaving early or not coming at all

one of my work mates is a Spud and I already told him that I am sooooo wearing red and white tomorrow…

I like the idea of game played at the stadium of the size of our own Odra’s (sadly bankrupt now)…

  10. Maciek

A- I agree with You, but I do think that our fans are just tired of watching Eboue as a right winger, Silvestre( enough said), Denmilsong and other underachiving players.Just my opinion.

  11. Maciek

A- I agree with You, but I do think that our fans are just tired of watching Eboue as a right winger, Silvestre( enough said), Denmilsong and other underachiving players.Just my opinion

  12. SUGA3

Odra Opole, mate – shame about the way the things turned out, it beats me how these fucks who used to run the club walk freely…

that’s how running a football club on virtual budgets ends up…

  13. Maciek

Sorry to hear that. But that’s just our Polish reality. Sad but true. But we always have Arsenal.Well maybe not always, but for me since 1993.What a year!LOL.

  14. SUGA3

I’d love to buy the Odra’s trademark and start from scratch…

last few years in Poland I did sweet fuck all apart from DJ-ing and with all this time on my hands I used to drive here and there watching local footie – I would cherrypick 40 players and give them an opportunity to make a name for themselves in a club bearing a well known name…

I could start from C class for all I care, but that’s a pipe dream…

  15. marzouca

A midfield with him, Cesc, Nasri, Walcott, Arshavin, will score an immense amount of goals. Especially since Arsene put Nasri next to Cesc. I don’t like the idea, but if there was ever a midfield I would want that in, its this.

  16. eboue

our squad can only get better as each year go’s cause of the age gap squads like chelseas and man utds can only get weaker i mean look at our midfield of cesc walcott nasri song they are very young but already internationals they will improve this year but can anyone here see chelseas midfield improving or man utds??

  17. A

marzouca no chance of us playing with 5 attacking midfielders! I’d imagine it’ll be Cesc rosicky/nasri and a DM, with arshavin as a wide forward,

  18. Stu

Eboue, the difference is that when one of the chavs or mancs midfielders arent up to it anymore they will buy someone who is for 20million. We just persist until they are ready and then sell them.

  19. A

Who’s going tomorrow? Can people make sure that if any clowns turn up with “please stay adebayor” flags or anything that could persuade him to reject city they’re quickly taken care off please!!

  20. marzouca

Yeah although it would be fantastic to see, those names will never be on the field at the same time. I do, however, think before the season, we will try and play NikkiB upfront then Arshavin right behind.(RVP’s normal role). If this is the case. I really don’t think we will get another striker. Arshavin plays best in a shadow striker role, and Eduardo and Nikki B can poach. (well hopefully Nikki B can) we just really need to focus on the DM role. Unless Song got a lot quicker. Then I would imagine he just may be half decent with some more pace.

  21. Stu

Yeah, i was going to say 4 but Diaby will no doubt get games, Bendtner, Eduardo, Vela etc etc. 4 of them probably wont start always.

  22. eboue

stu i understand but for this coming season i am saying that chelsea and man utd will not of improved as much as arsenal have improved chelseas players like ballack deco lampard joe cole anelka joe cole carvalho terry belleti will not improve from last season but players like denilson song diaby cesc nasri walcott bendtner gibbs djourou ramsey wilshire vela will have improved from last season

  23. A

Oh yeah I’m sure there’ll be rotating, but in general I’d imagine it’ll be Cesc alongside a DM, Arshavin, and one of nasri/rosicky, and VP as well as one of Eduardo and Bendy.

Then Diaby, Theo, and Vela will be rotated in and out depending on injuries, form, and opposition.

  24. Stu

But its doubtful that Denilsong will reach the same level next season that Ballack, Lampard Essien, Carvalho etc etc are already on. Eventually yes but probably not next season.

  25. eboue

am not saying they are going to be on their level all am saying is that players like song denilson bendtner and co will have improved as players but chelseas midfield will of not improved as much as ours

  26. Stu

I know what you are saying Eboue. But what im saying is that chelsea will just buy to improve their midfield. Then they wont have an old midfield anymore.

  27. A

We don’t need them to though Stu – We don’t rely on them to be our best players, we just rely on them to be solid foil for our best players.

  28. A

I dunno about that anymore – Chelsea aren’t spending like they used to, Abramovich isn’t prepared to spend in the same way anymore, as the signings of Turnbull and Sturridge show. Though If they needed to replace Lampard for example because he left I’m sure they’d splash out, but in terms of their strength in depth, Abramovich isn’t prepared to spend lots of money to have a squad of expensive players anymore.

  29. A

If Chelsea don’t win anything for a couple of seasons, I wonder if Abramovich will lost interest and sell up. Could see Chelsea simply being replaced in the top 4 by City eventually.

  30. eboue

players like lampard deco ballack anelka drogba belleti carvalho are going to start declining and arsenal are going to keep getting stronger

  31. Stu

Yes Eboue, of course they will decline but my point is that chelsea wont keep those players when they get worse. Its not like there is a block on movement. If someone is past it then they will be replaced with someone younger. Thats my point.

  32. Stu

Anyone seeing this dog fighting thing on BBC3. It is fucking disgusting that people would do this to dogs and then when dogs get aggressive with children (which is horrible as well) people put all the blame on the dog. Its fucking diabolical!

“Who has talked about Chamakh going to Arsenal? Journalists. These are just stories without foundation.”

    =========================================
    yes journos the press !
its pretty hard to get news out in any other method … i believed they stopped using courier pigeons earlier last century :)

now its up to you to work out , time frames,
what other rumors are around and other external
bits of gossip , you know our club is tight lipped about such issues , so as a fan you need to be smarter …

and i can tell you from what ive read , arsene
is atleast interested and made inquiries about nungchuks. plus no other major rumors are around at the moment so he is working on something , and i dont think its ade .. as work permits take a bit of time …

trust me in 2 weeks ill know all about it myself .!

A unless you have insider trading news your getting from the club you will always have to speculate as a gunner fan …

  34. A

ethan you do realise that quote was from the Bordeaux President, not me, saying that there’s been absolutely no contact or enquiry, and it’s all just made up from the press.

  35. ethangunner

Chamakh warns if Arsenal do not make move he will go elsewhere

    Saturday July 18,2009
    By Tony Banks

MAROUANE CHAMAKH wants his move to Arsenal finalised by the middle of next week – or he could take up another offer.

Bordeaux striker Chamakh is the man Arsenal want to replace the outgoing Emmanual Adebayor, and a £7million deal has been lined up. But he said: “If it happens with them it’s great, otherwise it does not bother me to play for Sunderland or Blackburn.”

    —- a pretty elaborate hoax A ! —–

and it makes sense , we are stalling again on a senderos swap because we have no cash and need ade sold prior to making the transaction …

would you like to make a bet that in 2 weeks he isnt in our squad !

and oh if anyone dont understand what position he plays…

    HE’S A STRIKER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  36. A

“and i can tell you from what ive read , arsene
is atleast interested and made inquiries about nungchuks. plus no other major rumors are around at the moment so he is working on something , and i dont think its ade .. as work permits take a bit of time …”

All you can tell me is that you believe there have been enquiries, you can’t tell me there have been, it’s just speculation.

Work permits don’t take any time, though I’m sure that that deal in terms of Wenger’s time was done very quickly, it’s only Ade who’s causing problems.

I’m sure Wenger is busy going after other targets, as well as preparing the squad for the season and the Barnet game, but I don’t for one second believe there’s any interest in Chamakh, and I don’t believe there’s any chance of Huntelaar.

Obviously until any signing is sealed it’s all speculation. As a fan though you don’t have to let yourself get immersed and fooled by all the speculation treating it as factual, though most fans do, because they choose not to analyse them rationally, as it’s more interesting and fun to actually believe and debate all the rumours, but the smarter thing to do is dismiss anything that has no substance, which is well over 90% of the rumours that the tabloids come out with.

  37. A

huh ethan, a pretty elaborate hoax?! how is it elaborate in the slightest the journalists making up a story based on hearsay and rumour?!

    lol

  38. A

Wenger said he thought Chamakh was a good player when commentating, that’s where this entire rumour has come from.

Since then he’s been asked if he wants to sign him, and he’s just said we’ve got plenty of strikers at the moment, he’d never just say no I don’t want to sign him, therefore journalists twist that into “Wenger will sign Chamakh if Adebayor goes”, and simple minded people or those not interested in analysing things but happy in the state of ignorance because it’s more enjoyable, believe it.

Then because of those rumours journalists ask Chamakh if he’d want to move to Arsenal, and he says (as anyone would) “they’re a great team and i’d love to play for them, but if that doesn’t happen i’m happy at Bordeax/would be happy playing for Sunderland/Blackburn etc etc etc” therefore there’s a deal being negotiated according to the tabloid hacks, and it’s about to be finalised.

The only factual element to the entire story is the President saying there’s been absolutely no contact, and Wenger releasing a statement on the official website at the end of the season saying there’s been no offer from us for him. Other than that it’s just a story built on rumours, that I don’t believe there to be any truth in it, though obviously I’m speculating about that because noone can know for sure either way, but that goes for the other 170+ players the tabloids have said we’re after this summer

  39. A

And yet ethan, I’ll make a bet that in 2 weeks he isn’t in our squad – how about a gentleman’s bet, the loser has to state in every single one of their posts “I was and idiot and was wrong and Ethan/A was right” for the following month??

Or actually change their name to that??

    What you reckon??

  40. A

    Or something along those lines.

“A/Ethan is a God in terms of their footballing knowledge compared to my complete lack of understanding”

  41. ethangunner

we shall see wont we if senderos moves the other way you will see that this Isnt a hoax …

there are obviously other clubs involved and
for that reason OUR club is quiet !

if you cant see it then it only proves your lack of knowledge on the way arsenal do business..

he comes from the french leagues ,
he has quoted ARSENAL as the team to move too .. how much more proof do you need ?????

so let me get this straight you dont believe a word of it ? correct ??????

  42. A

    haha

so because someone asked him “do you want to join arsenal”

and he said “yes i’d love to”

    it’s proof?!

seriously do you listen to yourself?!

If someone asked me the exact same question i’d answer in an identical way….

Correct, I don’t believe there is any interest in Chamakh, and I don’t believe there’s been any contact, though the Bordeaux president has said that too

    So – bet?

Loser has to change their name to something to do with being completely inferior to the other, the specifics to be determined at a later date?

  43. ethangunner

hey i dont think he’s good enough !
i dont really want him to join, 53 goals in 200 matches isnt good enough for us ..

but he is tall and pretty much matches ade as a replacement ..

sure, the bet is on either him or you mate huntalaar to join ..

but it sure as shite wont be a CDM ! like everyone has been stating ..

maybe arsene will look for one after this transaction has gone thru .. if there is any cash left …

but it shows you arsene is on the same page as myself in wanting to strengthen the front line !

its total madness to think we would go into this season with just what we have minus ade ..
which 99% of you think !

  44. A

Do you seriously consider tabloid reports as “proof”?! You do realise the definition of the word proof is different from that of “speculation”??

There isn’t one tiny bit of proof, there’s loads of speculation based on other speculation.

Literally the only element of the story that is based on fact, or proof, is the Bordeaux President stating that there has been no contact.

  45. ethangunner

    A

every major paper is running the story ! FFS man .
if you think there is no proof at all BY THAT ! then you seriously have trust issues !

  46. ethangunner

no i never consider ANYTHING proof ..

its what i read within its contents ..
and knowing our club which helps me make the decision !

  47. A

lol yes I do ethan, because I know a couple of sports journalists in London, and I know that the majority of the stories they run are based on literally nothing factual, and they don’t care if it’s true or not.

It isn’t “trust issues”, it’s knowing how the tabloids work, and how easy it is to create rumours that are reported in all the papers….

Come on then, you said you wanted to bet

  48. A

    So ethan, we betting then?

Explain the “knowing our club” thing. Because the club have said nothing about Chamakh, and given absolutely no indication there’s any interest in him, it therefore proves we’re gonna sign him??

  49. ethangunner

we gonna bet that Chamakh(striker) will be an Arsenal player , the time frame is irrelevant ..

the point is arsene is LOOKING FOR A STRIKER

not a CDM ! like you want !

if ades work permit talks break down then there could be issues … but proving ade transfers this week (monday – tuesday ) 100% sure !~

  50. ethangunner

your kidding right ? arsene has had no contact with him ????

do you read at all ???/
    ————————————-
Earlier in the week, reports suggested Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was keen to sign Chamakh if Emmanuel Adebayor was sold to Manchester City.
Arsene Wenger Arsenal 2008/09 profile size
    ARSENE WENGER

However, Triaud was quoted in France Football as saying: “Arsene Wenger hasn’t called me to say he is interested in signing Chamakh.

“Who has talked about Chamakh going to Arsenal? Journalists. These are just stories without foundation.”

Fulham, Tottenham and Sunderland have also been linked with the 25-year-old, who has just 12 months left on his Bordeaux contract.

He has scored 53 goals in almost 200 matches for Bordeaux since joining the club seven years ago.

  51. A

how is the time frame irrelevant? if Chamakh happens then it’ll happen quickly surely – you said we’re just waiting for Ade to sign before sorting that out?

You said you wanted to bet that Chamakh is an Arsenal player in 2 weeks, you pulling out of that now?

And saying that it’s any striker, you aren’t even sure if we are gonna sign Chamakh now, what about all the proof in the papers though?!

    How quickly can you backtrack?!

ethan there are no work permit talks, he applied for a work permit and was granted it on Tuesday, he has a work permit now, that’s dealt with….

  52. A

huh ethan?! do I read at all??

“Arsene Wenger hasn’t called me to say he is interested in signing Chamakh.”

You just posted a story in which the Bordeaux President specifically stated that there hasn’t been any contact, yet you read that as showing that there has?!?!

Certainly an interesting way of looking at things!!

  53. ethangunner

yes im betting we get a striker , not a CDM !
and unless things break down … then Chamakh or hunt’s it is ! or another striker .. if all breaks down ..

yes … count me down for that !

it does sound like Chamakh is getting restless
so providing ade’s transfer takes place in a timely manner SURE !

  54. A

Come on Ethan, you’re absolutely certain that the reports in the paper are proof that we’re going to sign Chamakh, and said you wanted to bet about it.

You’re so certain that you know exactly what’s going on, how our club and the media works and I have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about.

Surely you can’t back out of a bet now??

  55. A

Well I wouldn’t say we 100% aren’t going to sign a striker ethan, but we 100% aren’t gonna sign Chamakh. I’ll bet that we sign a centre mid before we sign a striker

  56. ethangunner

yes well who has talked about the senderos swap , unless the journo’s really have a inventive mind !

thats just it isnt it A we are betting on a leap of faith !

my faith said there is too many things pointing to this deal NOT being bogus , and you say it is ..

thats what the bet is about ..

you saying we didnt have any contact .. and the press are making up stories and im saying there is too much proof pointing to arsene making inquiries ..

  57. A

we’ve already signed a 15 year old, could easily sign more, they aren’t relevant to the first team though, don’t see how people see it as anything other than a good thing if we’re signing top young talent

  58. BOY BETTER KNOW

because it’s taking money away from the first team which is way more important at this moment in time

  59. A

not that inventive ethan, the journalists have claimed a silvestre swap, a gallas swap, then an eboue swap, then a senderos swap!

ethan there is ONE bit of “proof” in the entire transfer saga.

That is the Bordeaux President categorically stating that Wenger hasn’t made an enquiry or shown any official interest….

  60. Stu

I personally hope Ethan is balls up wrong but i have a bad feeling that he is right. Wenger loves buying shit strikers and turning them into “superstars”.
In fairness Ade was worse than Chanakh is now when we signed him but Ade was young aswell.

A, you were off target with a few things lately but you had better be fucking right about Chamakh. I dont want that fucker anywhere near the club.

  61. Stu

The Eto to us deal but you were probably only joking, Matuidi signing and im sure there were others. Not massive mistakes but mistakes all the same and suprising considering you usually get it right.

  62. A

ha I still think/hope the matuidi signing will happen soon as ade goes stu! It really was a weird one, unless sky sports really were so retarded that they thought Bartley was Matuidi, but they categorically stated that we were in talks with him late into the night, and that he was at our training ground the next day.

Yeah etoo I wasn’t being serious.

I will be MASSIVELY wrong though if Chamakh signs!

  63. Stu

Well i meant that you said he would be here by now and you set a deadline for him to sign and it still hasnt happened. You might still be right.

  64. A

ha yeah true stu, i was thinking it was gonna happen asap, i wonder what the hold up is, they’ve already signed their replacement, and despite that and his wanting to go, along with alot of other clubs being interested there’s been nothing from anyone else going for him either. Makes me think/hope it’s a done deal with us but just not dotted the i’s and crossed the t’s just yet, maybe he’s gone on holiday or something first?! or the ade deal has been potentially happening for longer than we all thought, so we were waiting for that money

  65. Stu

I dont get why players do that, If they wanted to move to a certain club so badly then why the fuck would they go on holiday. Could they not wait or sacrifice a few days so that they could sort out their future. They get paid enough fucking money, a few less days of holidays isnt a massive ask ffs.

  66. A

Yeah it’s a weird one stu, though i’d assume that if the clubs wanted them to come back to sort it out then they would, but i guess if they know they’ve got their man and there aren’t likely to be any complications they aren’t too fussed when the contracts are officially signed as it makes no real difference.

I can’t imagine that’s the case here though, because it all stems from sky sports reporting that he was actually in london

  67. Stu

Hva we ever been actually properly linked with Matuidi tho or is it more bullshit from the media like Chamakh? I dont think i’ve read anything official linking us with him.

  68. A

That was the weird things Stu, the tabloids didn’t pick up on the story at the time (possibly because it would have ridiculed their obsession with going on and on about Melo) even though sky sports reported it as a fact.

They didn’t present it as a rumour, they reported it as being completely concrete, that Matuidi was DEFINITELY in London the night before in negotiations with us, and had been to the training ground that morning. They said it as if there was no question of it not being true, as if it wasn’t a rumour at all.

Then the tabloids didn’t report anything on it the next day, and nothing’s really happened since.

It was really weird though, it wasn’t even a “sky sports understands….” it was a statement of fact

  69. A

Nah it wasn’t Bill, it was just a “Matuidi has been in London since yesterday, and was at Arsenal’s training ground today”.

I remember it vividly because I had ssn on in the back ground, and did a double take, rewound it and watched it 2/3 times because it came completely out of the blue. It wasn’t a “sky sports understands”, at least not the first report, I promise you.

  70. Stu

Well then Matuidi is just as likely to join as Chamakh is..maybe even less so because there has been nothing in the press about it.

The only thing linking us with Matuidi is the fact that Sky thought Barley was Matuidi.

  71. Honest Bill

    A. I can assure you that when it first came on SSN, it was a SS understands, That was the exact words they used. In fact if you go back through the old posts, you’ll even see that people are debating the accuracy of the ‘Sky sports understands’ stories.

I vividly remember it myself it was going round the ticker at the bottom all day, with the exact line Sky Sports understands

  72. nishanth

There are not DM options actually.Wonder what we will do with all this money.I am sure adebayor will move to city. All this reports i think are crap.Even tevez was linked to chelsea just before joining city

    ————————————–

fuck and you say i believe everything i read ..
and thats not an article thats been run by all tabloids either ..

i dont really want Cham either , he sounds like
a unselfish team player type who doesnt score enough goals of any club he’s been at ..

but the rumors , the PRICE of 7 mil , the fact he is in the french league (wengers happy hunting ground)
plus the player coming out and saying what i posted at 00:53 , is enough proof that this is to be taken seriously enough .
    ————————————-
    stu ,

i do hope im wrong also id much prefer huntalaar or eto … or someone with some pedigree and caliber ..

but you wont change wengers stripes, well maybe you would if the club had massive surplus funds like the other 3 teams ..

  74. Stu

There are options Nish. Plenty im sure. Its just a matter of Wenger actually getting the scouts to find one. I dont care if its not the best young DM in the world with amazing potential. I just want someone who will improve us immediately and there are certainly a lot of players out there that could do that.

  75. ethangunner

but i dont think ive EVER been wrong about anything , so unless theres something up with my gutt feelings i think we might get another , semi – unknown 7m mil player from the french league within the next week ..

what that does spell is that wenger will have some funds left over for some other players …
    (15 mil)

will it be one big signing or 2 more 7 mil touches …

    only time will tell …

  76. Stu

Well IF we want to lok at this negatively then look at it like this.

We have no money right now because

Arshavin for 16m last summer was becuase Wenger had to buy as he was under pressure from fans. He doesnt always buy in Jan and he rarely buys big. So we were minus 16going into the summer. ((-16m))

We had 13m after finishing 4th. We soent 10m on Vermaelen. That surplus of 3m went into paying off arshavin. So we spent 26m and got 13.

We are minus 13 right now and after ade is sold we will have 7-10m to play with. Hence Chamakh OR Matuidi will come in, or someone else for that much.

Hope that makes sense to everyone else. I bet its hard to follow. Oh Well…..

  77. ethangunner

    nish

unless toure is moved on or gallas is leaving which it looks like neither is ….

im sure toure wont be a bench player ..
i think nasri-toure will get the CDM job….

id still prefer we got in another option , but you know wenger is a stat man and denilson unless he is moved on will be cesc’s partner this season .

yo u have 4 players that can play CDM – toure – song – denilson and nasri put his hand up …

i cant see us getting anyone in who wenger classifies as BETTER than the above 4 names .

    in his opinion ….

    not mine ..

  78. Stu

I suppose so Bill. But it was merely a negative theory as to why everything has gone so quiet on the transfer front.

A seems to believe that we never actually bid for Melo and they just used us to get Juve to offer the asking price.

I believe we were interested but not to the tune of 20m or so.

  79. Stu

Ethan, someone siad on here that Wenger confirmed recently that Song will be a defender from now on and he also said that Toure would never be a DM. So we really only have Denilson because i dont think Nasri is a serious contender for there unless we play a “park the bus” team.

  80. Goons_with_Guns

I dress up in girl’s cloths as I only have a 2 inch pecker, so I’m not sure what sex I am, thanks for letting me share that with you all.

  81. Honest Bill

Stu. I agree with you that there’s no way we bid anywhere close to 20M, but the statement on Fiorentina’s website was deliberately ambiguous on the sum offered by stating that Arsenal were the only team to have come anywhere even close to the fee. The one definite thing that you can take from that, is that a bid was made. I would speculate that it was in the region of 15M, since they said they might be willing to accept Eboue to make up the rest.

Also. Wenger said that he sees Song as a centre back. He didn’t say anything like he will be playing there ‘from now on’ he hasn’t given a definite time frame on anything. And there are various contradictory quotes which state that Song will be a great Midfielder. I don’t think we can rule him out as an option for midfield just yet.

  82. nishanth

Ethan he is definitely trying to sign a DM.I am pretty sure about that.Nasri at DM against weak oppositions is not a bad idea.Playing toure is a bit of a gamble.I think we should avoid something like that cos we look pretty strong in other positions so should just sort this one out properly

    ———————————-

well so far it seems wenger was interested in a striker dzeko ,defender tomas.V ,possibly melo ..possibly!
and now Chamakh Striker , not much in the way of rumors for CDM’s other than melo ….

and it seemed juve was always the front runner for him … i wouldnt be surprised if we see a new dm now ade’s has been sold …but by the same token im not going hold my breath with nasri coming out the same day barry transferred to man Shitty and said nasri will play in the position …

nothing has been said to the contrary since that time so one can presume narsi will partner cesc in a shared role .. interchanging with denilson as wenger see’s fit ..

yes song can play CD , but he has also played DM for us … i wouldnt be supprised if song will line up again for the midfield on the odd occassion ..

but that means 2 things ..we wont get another CD …
and we can count on denilson being the main man for the DM role if song makes way ..

unless arsene plans on selling him(denilson) …
because with denilsons stats i cant see him sitting on the bench next season , love him or hate him he wasnt far from taking the over as the front runner for the position ..

wenger would have to find someone he deems better than denilson for the right price ..

  84. ethangunner

i think we will see a winger(left) plus a striker come on board for ade’s cash ..

a back up goal keeper of around 32 like brett freedel or shay given from a team like fulham or what ever , even green .. you know the type ..
2 or 3 mil , got a few years left as a stop gap for fab 2 , and extra backup for big Al ..
(pretty much like a mart broom or what ever his name was from estonia )

but i think the goal keeper wish is a stretch …
