What about a little bit of swapping? Makes sense and costs nothing.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

First of all a big thank you to Gunner8 for taking us down memory lane with his guest post yesterday, Gunner8 I expected you to be on more, it was your post!

Onto today, so now we have Vermaelen on board there goes the supposed budget, I don’t believe it for one minute, but for the sake of this post, let’s say it’s true, so is that the end of it then? How about this for a great way around the problems.

Eboue wants out and PSG are interested, so why not swap him plus a little cash for Sakho?

Toure wants out and Man City want him so what about a straight swap with Richards, he hasn’t spoken to Hughes for 3 months, they hate each other, we need a centre back and he’s an Arsenal fan, happy days.

Adebayor has Chelsea after him, why not swap him for John Obi Mikel and Alex?

Senderos wants to play in Italy and we want Melo, so why not swap him plus cash? That would work.

Gallas is wanted by Marseille and we want Cana, same deal.

We could then sell the fringe players like Randall, Simpson and a few others and pick up the shortfall, we still have £3 million left from the Vermaelen purchase. Now in that little lot we have at least two of our problem positions taken care of and no real money would change hands so why wouldn’t we consider it? That’s just the sort of thing that Gazidas could do and the mentioned players we could out would all get their wishes, there’s no point in keeping players that want to go and we would have the squad we have been dreaming about.

I’m not saying buy them all, but two from that lot would be easy peasy. Or am I doing the wishful thinking bit?

We would also be saving a bunch off the wage bill as three of those players are well paid, no one loses faith and we keep players like Robin and Cesc happy, hey who knows, we may even win the league with that line up!

Finally Jose Antonio Reyes is being dumped by Benfica, Athletico don’t want him back and he’s going for €6.5mil, perhaps we should have him back, he was a classy winger and he did get on well with Cesc, any takers???

Have a great day Grovers, we need to move fast now as there are only a couple of weeks left until we re assemble our squad for pre-season and we know how important it is to integrate them early.

i did the survey before spasm chasm was put forward im afraid.

there are still some pretty tasty ones there though!

  2. jeff

I was at the Brazil game last night. I have never seen a more single footed midfielder than Melo… Trust me Denilson is way ahead.. Gilberto at his age looked so much better.. We don’t want to be teaching a 25 year old the basics. Please NOOO!!!!!

  3. David

On TALKsport Melo’s agent was on and he said we’re in talks with Fiorentina about signing Melo. Maybe someone could look more into this ?

  4. Stu

Evening all. Got my ipod sorted by my younger cousin. I was embarrassed slightly because i know absolutely nothng about them. Its going to be annoying trying to put all the songs on but needs must.

Also, did yall see my Bendtner appreciation ‘do’ last night. He is facking brilliant! and is gonna be great next season.

    So………….any news floating around?

  5. Stu

So te chavs are going to have Sheva and Anelka up front next season. Drogshit should be out the door is the rumours about what Abramovic said are true.
And Livershit have agreed a fee or somefink with Pompey.

Still cant believe we were the first ‘big club’ to dip into the transfer market.

  6. Samir

    Is that really true David?
If it is… YESSSS!! Get in!!
If we get him we shall be champions!!
Plus Denilson could really learn alot from him. Maybe even play the two together in a 4-2-3-1?

  7. Stu

If we got Melo then Denilson wouldnt get a look in. Nor should he.

IF we get him then i think it should be him in DM with Cesc and either Nasri or Rosicky in front of him.

  8. Samir

    -Sagna-Gallas-Vermy-Clichy-

    —-Fabregas-Melo—-

    -Rosicky-Nasri-Arshain-

    ——Eduardo—-

  9. nishanth

good lineup samir. But knowing wenger he will somehow try to fit in rvp in that lineup.Even then its pretty good

  10. Stu

But the small lack of pace would be made up for with the amazing footballing ability and brains.

And Arshavin aint no slouch. Rosicky is fantastic too. Movement is the key etc etc.

  11. David

Rosicky, Nasri and Arshavin are reasonably fast. Plus, we can also bring on Theo if we’re lacking that much.
    I’d like to see
    – Melo –
    Arshavin – Cesc – Rosicky –
    — Van Persie — Eduardo –

although Ade and Eduardo are pretty good together.

  12. David

My mate heard it and at first I thought he was winding me up(he’s a chelsea fan) but then when I looked on some Arsenal forums/blogs, other people are reporting it. Looks very promising.

  13. Paulinho

And then you have Nasri,Merida, Diaby, Denilson, Walcott as bench options. I would back us for the title.

If I’m being really picky though I would like another striker. A mobile, low centre of gravity, right footed one.

  14. patthegooner

i would love to see a link on this David, if true then it is a signing I am excited about.

Is it enough? not sure but we are certainly heading in the right direction if true.

Would still like Hangeland or similar in. I think a complete revamp of our CB pairing is the way ahead.

The best thing though is that we are getting our transfers done early. Only problem I can see with Melo is that we might not see him until September given the Confederations Cup and we wont see Cesc either and that means Song and Denilson up against Everton, Man Ure and Man Shitty away and that seriously worries me.

    =======================================

    Michael Owen it is then….

  16. David

There will probably be more news after the confed cup. Wenger and Gazidss seem to want to do all the deals quite quickly this summer which we don’t usually do.

There’s rumours Milan want him but personally I think they’ll sign Gago from Madrid. Plus, if they did want Melo I’m sure a certian Gilberto Silva could put in a good word for us.

  17. Mayank

I saw them on a MU blog site… you can alter the last no. and you get a player… some wierd sorta glitch…

  18. patthegooner

    Mangoonian,

If we got Owen on a pay as you play, then I would take the risk on him if Ade left. I still think that for the right club he could do a job. Might have lost a bit of pace but he has the untrainable knack of being in the right place at the right time.

  19. Stu

RSC isnt worth 18m at all. Especially after the season hes just had. He only cost that because he is moving between clubs in the same league and Man shitty have so much money 18m was nothing t them. They paid that for De Jong instead of waiting a few months to get him for a few million.

  20. ManGoonian

    pattg;

Owen on a pay as you play deal would be the only way to go, given his injury probs of late. He can still score the goals tho…

  21. Stu

They get a longer break and come back later but september would be pushing it. Late august before they would be ready imo.

  22. patthegooner

It does Choy but that is when their Holiday starts.

Probably wont start Pre-season until the end of July at the earliest and then wont be match fit until the end of August at the earliest.

  23. Samir

If Senderos is not used in the Melo deal then I say we should keep him and see how he does in pre season.
If he’s good keep him and sell Silvestre.
If he’s bad sell him and sell Silvestre.
    Simple!

    Vermy
    Gallas
    Toure
    Senderos
    Song

And loan out of Djourou? For some much needed experience.
When the AFN start we will lose Toure and Song.
    Leaving us with:
    Vermy
    Gallas
    Senderos
    ?Djourou?

  24. patthegooner

Exactly Stu and that might cover the Everton and Man Ure games and of course the matter of a potential bananna skin in the CL.

I typed in haste, i thought the Man Shitty game was in the first few days of September but it is on the 12th so should have everyone back then.

  25. kingsley

David are you 100% sure his agent was on talk sport? sorry to be a nag but got a feeling this rumour is not true.

  26. reggie57

That sparky hughes isnt so bright is he,to pay 18 mill for a injury prone player beggars belief, mind you he has been groomed by red nose!!!

  27. David

I didn’t actually hear the agent, a mate told me and I’ve seen it on lots of Arsenal blogs/forums but TalkSport are a well respected radio station. I’m sure they’d do their research before hand.

  28. Paulinho

I would be surprised if Milan bought Gago. He hasn’t exactly been a raging success at Madrid.

I’ve always rated Owen and would take him. The problem are his injuries and wages.

  29. Samir

England U21 team: Loach, Stearman, Tomkins, Mancienne, Taylor, Driver, Gardner, Rodwell, Johnson, Campbell, Rose. Subs: Hart, Cranie, Onuoha, Richards, Gibbs, Cattermole, Noble, Muamba, Walcott, Lewis.

Germany U21 team: Neuer, Beck, Howedes, Boateng, Schmelzer, Castro, Khedira, Ebert, Ben-Hatira, Ozil, Dejagah. Subs: Fromlowitz, Aogo, Johnson, Hummels, Schwaab, Grote, Adlung, Ede, Marin, Wagner, Sippel.

Owen on a pay as you play deal; basic wage with most of any potential earnings based on games played and goals…

  32. reggie57

Come off it Mangoonian every one knows talksport is well respected what other radio stations have got presenters of the calibre like brazil, dogger collymore, jason cuntley, and durham, whos shitting who fella!!!

  33. A

It’s not a case of talksport being shite to get a fake agent on, random people always claim to represent players they don’t, and the media just lap it all up, they aren’t fussed if it’s genuine or not!!

  34. A

David re JET pearce said he’ll only consider players playing first team football, and it’s because Rose was on loan. I think it’s pretty ridiculous personally, but I can see the basis for it, youth and reserve football is incomparable in terms of how competitive it is to first team footy, but the likes of Wilshere and JET are imo far superior players to Rose

  35. A

Shows how quickly Gibbs has become a top player with being rested when he only made his debut a few games ago didn’t he??

  36. ManGoonian

    Team for next season;

    Akinfeev
    Richards – Zapata – Hangeland – Dabo
    Melo – Inler
    Sneider – Cesc –
    Huntelaar – Chamakh

  37. Stu

A, where was Manvienne on loan then because i thought he was in chelskis reserves because he defo doesnt play first team football with them.

  38. ManGoonian

    Stu;

Thats the team after a bit of swapping, wheeler dealering…. Or me takin the piss… You decide!

Mancienne was on loan at vWolves, I think…

  39. Pat

    Sagna > Richards
    Gallas > Hangeland
    Clichy and Gibbs > Dabo
    Rosicky > Sneijder
    Arshavin > everyone there
Chamakh is just awful. Shit, shit, even worse than shit. Eboue is better than Chamakh.

  40. ReVELAtion

    yes pat he is…

“With speculation rife in Bordeaux that Marouane Chamakh is set to turn his back on the club in favour of a move to the Premier League, I have to confess that I won’t be expressing much disappointment. The Moroccan is one of the most frustrating player’s I have ever seen and quite why the likes of Arsenal are expressing an interest in him is beyond me.

I’m a regular watcher of Bordeaux and they provide me with football fix that I have missed since leaving Birmingham over a decade ago. Ligue 1 is certainly no Premiership and why Stade Chaban-Delmas can never replace Villa Park, it certainly fills a void every other weekend. This season has been absolutely superb and Lauren Blanc is slowly proving to be one of the best young managers in the business and has got a group of average players, with one or two stars working in tandem. Their success this season reminds me of Blackburn’s PL triumph back in 95, although it has to be said that Chamakh is certainly no Shearer.

Chamakh is a poor man’s Arshavin. He has all the flicks, clever touches but in front of goal he just isn’t clinical, and tends to over play around the box; you just scream at him to shoot but he’ll always look for a pass, hence my source of frustration with him. Chamakh does work hard for the team and is an effortless runner; however that only gets you so far. He doesn’t score nearly enough goals and his 1 in 4 ratio up against some of the defences that Ligue 1 offers, will certainly not improve in the tougher Premier League.

So it leaves me bemused as to why Arsenal reportedly after him, he is certainly no better than Van Persie, Arshavin, Adebayor, Eduardo or Bendtner. Why I would expect one of the PL lesser likes to maybe take a chance on him, Arsenal need a more polished striker who would surely guarantee them goals. They will certainly get nice touches, flicks and a player that will run all day, but a prolific goalscorer they will not and unless Wenger believes he can unlock that from his game I don’t know, but having watched him for the last five seasons, I think he will have his work cut out.”

  41. Pat

    Realistically…and hopefully:

    Almunia
    Sagna ??? Vermelean Clichy
    Arshavin Cesc Melo Rosicky
    RVP Ade

    ??? = Gallas or Zapata

  42. ManGoonian

    Buffon
    Bassong – Chiellini – Upson – Wheater
    Gunter – Yaya
    Cana – Veloso
    Dzeko – Dindane

  43. Stu

Pat, Eduardo for Ade, change it to 4-3-3 and you’ve got a deal!

If im being picky i would orefer a new keeper too. Almunia is fine but we need great, or at least a better stop gap until Fabianski is ready, which he showed he isnt.

  44. ReVELAtion

What’s with all these dreamesque 4-2-3-1′s and 4-1-2-3 formations.. We’re Arsenal not ****** barca or madrid!

ManG, who is this Gunter you speak of?
The only on i know of is the spud right back from Wales. Surely you dont mean him. :???:

  46. Pat

Stu, I said realistically. We won’t play a 4-3-3 and Wenger won’t sign a good keeper.

    Hopefully I’ll be proved wrong

  47. ManGoonian

    Stu;

I think I meant Gentner??? Anyhoo, him and the others are just some of the 50 odd players we’ve been linked to… I just thought I’d be a bit stoopid for a change (what?) and make teams out of em, like a right sad fantasy footy manager playing Geek!

    No offence

  48. Stu

True Pat, but Wenger played mostly 4-5-1 at the end of the season. I just hope it was a failed 4-3-3 because of personell rather than 4-5-1 tho.

With the right players 4-3-3 would be great for us.

  49. Stu

Much much better Pat. I actually have a mate, liverpool fan, who thinks Nasri is a better player.
He might be one day but defo not any where close now.

  50. Mayank

Why all of a sudden everyone has this fascination with 4-3-3, 4-4-2 is the most versatile formation on offer and certainly the best for the PL currently my team would be
    AL
    Sagna-Gallas-Vermi-Gael
    Rosicky*-Cesc-Denilson-Arsh
    RvP-Dudu

*if he still playss like i remember him to, else walcott or nasri.
We have very good backup for every position esp if we sign Melo.

  51. ManGoonian

I think Nasri will be a huge player for us… At least 500ft tall when he’s reached his peak… Rosicky is class, hope he can come back, tho….

Well, according to A, we will be playin 4-2-3-1 next season…. I tend to agree, and as we all know, I am never wrong…

  52. Mayank

Nasri is the player i like most at the Arse, esp after his handling of evra… He seems to have everything you can ask of a MF but at 21 he can drift out of games, also at 21 he should be happy as a 2nd choice player.

  53. ReVELAtion

pat, rosicky is nowhere near fit enough to keep nasri out with 18 mths missed participating in competitive football..

Plus a few cameo throw ins for: (providing they do not go out on loan)

Wilshire, Lansbury, Nordviet, Merida, Ramsey, JE Thomas & Conquelin.

That’ll be being realstic knowing Arsene…

I do expect us to lose Toure and Adebayor and to be honest and use the money on melo and renew contracts and leave it at that, about even.. It’s just more a case of when and not IF IMO..

  54. Stu

Chamakh would be a good player to have sitting on the bench in case of an emergency and be on b=very very little wages.

He is only liked at Bordeaux because he came through their academy imo and he isnt even french so he isnt really one of theirs. Na mean!

  55. Stu

Hleb was very well known at 25. And was doing great things in germany. The ability was always there with Hleb (with build-uo or whatever).

But i saw Chamakh a few times for Bordeaux and he was useless. He is tall….thats about it.

  56. SFOGooner

There was a lot of opposition to Vermi, but Wenger still went ahead with him. I would not be suprised if he does the same with Chamakh.

    maybe wenger likes a challenge.

  57. Stu

Bassong is Cameroonian, another african. Just thought i would mention that as i only discovered it recently.

  58. ReVELAtion

not worth the 8m + punt when we already have much better.. Plus i want and expect to see more of pink boots up top next season.. If we do actually sell Adebayor, Arsene won’t buy anyone unless owen’s coming in on a free…

I’m still in shock we’ve spent money before the bindippers, mancs and chavs! But let’s not get carried away.. If only melo comes in now and we lose eboue, adebayor and toure aswell as loan returnees & stiff’s that are never quite gonna make it (Randall, Silvestre, Simpson, Gilbert, Traore, Senderos)

I would be happy with that and think we’d be right up there with what we have throughout the squad..

  59. ManGoonian

    Sell;

Gallas, Kolo, Eboue, Song, Silvestre, Senderos, Clichy, Denilson, Diaby, Walcott, Bendy, Ade, RvP, Almunia…

    Sign….

    No one! Thats the last thing they would expect, we’ll surprise all the other teams by fielding a line up of;

    Sagna, Cesc, Arshy and Eduardo

    The old 1-1-1-1 formation…

    Oh bruvver

  60. Honest Bill

I’m looking forward to seeing Vermaelen play as CF next season. Also, since Arshavin has proved himself a formidable left winger, he will be at left back.

  61. ManGoonian

If this blog practiced what some peoplem preached and ditched the rubbish on here….

Then me and Stu wouldn’t have many people to chat to on here…
