Clichy and Sagna say no, Eboue says yes and Melo? Who the **** is Melo?

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Ok so to start the day with some positivity our full backs who have been the target of new spoiled brats Madrid have come out and said they are going nowhere, well done those men, that’s good news indeed, especially as Clichy was one of Wengers project youth boys.

Sagna has said the stories about him wanting to leave are Daily Mail ‘We hate Arsenal’ lies, par for the course, but Eboue has said he doesn’t want another season where he is a bit player, funny as he played in over 40 games last season but I respect that, he is no longer first choice right back and he hasn’t proved his worth in midfield, shame because I would like to see him as back up, however fair play to the player, he has ruled out playing in the EPL out of respect to the fans, for that he deserves our best wishes, and as I have said many times before, he is still a great right back and better than some we will be keeping.

Note though, the players we will keep are not being sought by anyone else. Funny that eh!

Now we do have a youngster coming through in the reserves by the name of Gavin Hoyte, could he step up? Who knows, time and Mr Wenger alone will tell.

So the latest rumour on the block is Felipé Melo, a Brazilian who is also wanted by Inter Milan, but sources say he would prefer Arsenal, well that makes a change, and he’s 25, the perfect age, we desperately need a tough tackling ball winner as what we have is not ready, well not yet regardless of the Magical stats.

We need to move before the pre season begins and that is in July, so time is of the essence, Vermaelen is still on the cards if he is the one, but I’m still puzzled as to why he haven’t gone after some of the monster type centre backs, still he must know what he’s doing given the trouble we had last season defending, he couldn’t get it wrong again, could he???

Many of you have suggested Djourou as that tough tackling big ball winner in midfield, after all, that was what he joined us as, and that was the reason we let Fabrice Muamba go, but outside of a spud game at Highbury, I can’t remember seeing him in that position, and he does seem a little injury prone, still, so was Clichy, so maybe he has that in mind.

Either way I just wish he would say something, Liverpool the ‘tits up’ team in the top 4 have just splashed out £17 mil on Johnson, good player, but did they need another right back? And how on earth can they keep spending? Makes a bit of a mockery of why we can’t, don’t you think?

Maybe Wenger is waiting for the chavs and Mancs to have spent out before he goes in, also maybe he wants to see which of our players Barcelona want first before deciding who he needs, it would be nice however if he got what he needed now, remember like the days when we competed with Chelsea and Liverpool for Theo, if it was about money we would never have got him, that’s why I don’t believe money is the biggest issue, with all the other teams around us strengthening, we had better watch it.

Come on Arsenal!

Have a great day Grovers, you never know what today may bring!

    Pedro,
No, this is not my point. I mint that we were weaker in middle with Cesc. AW has to twiste things around, probably sacrify Walcott for Eboue who is defensively better and read the game well as well. Both players are useful to the squad, because we need to regain possession, Eboue is more effective than Cesc as Cesc is more when we are attacking. Having a cautious approach wins more CL or key games than all gon blazing attacking display AW went for in our key games.
Thank you for now, Pedro. I am off! Have a good day all Grovers. Don’t take it very badly.

steve your comment re eboue ill agree with that, he was capable at Rb and wenger brought sagna who is a better player but was not a necessity. in midfield its clear song/den might well turn into great players in the future but are struggling now but seems reluctant to replace them for fear of killing their carer hard to work out.

  3. Arsenal Tom

wenger brought sagna to save money long term cos he thought eboue would be a good winger, that way the only outlay would be the price of sagna (6-7m) to replace him at RB

  4. Steve

Cheers Nick. The poor cunt was actually playing left wing when he got booed. it’s just not right to do that to a player, bearing in mind he’d just come back from injury too.

Arsenal are close on Vermalen with a fee of 10 million agreed. Sahko is a definite target and 5 million has already been offered and turned down. Wenger will come back and offer 8 million + Gallas while Hangeland is still on the radar with Wenger only willing 2 offer 10 million while Fulham want 15. Bolton have bid in excess of 10 million 4 Veloso but Wenger is monitoring developments. Blaise Matudi may stay with St.Etiene while Mohamdou Dabo is a definite replacement 4 Eboue. The big shock move is 4 Stuttgart’s Thomas Hitzelsperger the German international who has one of the most powerful left–foots in Europe and only a year left on his contract Arsenal have been quoted 5 million. ;)

  9. SharkeySure

“Manchester United have made a long-term decision not to sign any players aged 26 or above for large transfer fees because of new financial stipulations that have been put in place at Old Trafford to shape the club’s recruitment policy

…they will sign players in big-money deals only if they will retain a significant market value some years after signing a five- or six-year contract.”

    - Report in the Guardian.

So now they are copying Arsene’s policy and trying to balance the books a bit.

‘Resale Value’ is an interesting concept considering their previous spending patterns, and their decision to cash in on Ronaldo.

The end is nigh..?? I fucking hope so….

  10. Lou

Hold the back page. Myles Palmer’s descent into self-obsessed imbecility gathers pace. He says that IF Arsenal sign Vermalen and Melo then he might get interested in them again. He further states that Wengers £13 million budget will not stretch far. Can someone tell me when the £13 million pound became official and not just a figure plucked from the ether by some Daily Mail tosser? He knows how much Liverpool will pay Johnson and how much various clubs owe each other. Is the man as big a fool as he assures us with every utterance?

  11. Clacko the gooner

i am watching the Spain game and although it has only just started, i must say Xavi has got a great pass. Also he seems to play a bit more as a DM. Sits back and just spreads it everywhere. He is definately their playmaker!!

  12. Duke

Clacko, I would like Cesc to play like that, I think Viera would be his perfect partner, both could move forward and both could fall back.

  13. Mayank

Myles Palmer knows nothing… According to him liverpool are the club that’s going to win it next year… While that may happen its not a very probable scenario with the financial constraints and Rafa at the helm they don’t have much of a chance… We all like Torres but he’s as much a crock as RvP and Gerrard can only take you that far… Anyway he’s just another writer feeding off the fan’s fears rather than offer anything new so i don’t pay much attention to him.

  14. Clacko the gooner

Duke agree there mate. He could do a brilliant job doing that. I almost cried when wenger put him behind the striker, it is way to clear that he can’t play there.

  15. Lou

Steve. I am with you. People like Palmer always speak as if they are the men in the know. Theit have sensitive tentacles of networks than delve deep into the heart of football. Personally, I can imagine that Arsene rings him most evenings to moan about the board and seek his advice on who to buy. That must be where he had the £13 million transfer fund confirmed. In fact I have no doubt at all that Palmer is a firm friend of both Vermalen and Melo and has told them of Arsene’s interest. It only remains for Palmer to negotiate their contracts before he returns to his full-time occupation of writing biographies. His next is about Saddam Hussein and is called How I Pulled The Lever.

  16. Steve

Nick is ‘bared’ and Franchise wants to ‘fuck’ him. This is all a little homo-erotic for my liking.

  17. Geoff

I was in Diamond club the day that Eboue got booed, I didn’t boo, because I never have and I would have been kicked out, but if I could have got on the pitch, I would have beaten the shit out of him, he gave the ball away and that was bad enough but when he tackled his own player and passed to their forwards I could not believe it, and might I add nor could they.

Wenger deserved the boos that day, he subbed the sub to save himself, cynical, very cynical and he should still feel ashamed, he engineered it to save himself.

  18. 8 inch knob

I have my own opinions and here’s why:

Van Persie. Not consistent enough. One good season and the fucker is demanding 90,000 a week. Too selfish, too greedy, doesn’t fit in with Wengerball, constantly dives, gives away needless freekicks, takes the majority of our direct free kicks yet hasn’t scored from one in nearly 3 years, too often is anonymous in games and is not flexible enough to play in anything other than a 4-4-2. Pathetic as a winger or front man, his best position is as second striker. this is where I feel Arshavin, Diaby, Bendtner should play. Maybe not Arshavin because I prefer him cutting in from the left where he seems best but definately Diaby. Diaby should be promoted further upfield. Bendtner is 21 for fucks sake and our 3rd highest scorer. Realistically Ade is not gonna get more than what he is on now unless someone is stupid enough to take him. I don’t see that as a negative tho because perhaps that should strive him on to do better. Nikky B as second striker and Adebayor up front would be a frightening prospect. I would like to see Ade of 07-08 hustling alongside Nikky B’s new found hustle. Plus we’re gonna sign Vermalaen who is hardly his best mate, is he?

Cesc. Sorry mate. One of my favourite players at one point when I too was caught up with the hype but for large parts of this season I watched Cesc and saw a man not happy with himself. I don’t blame him. He is best mates with Flamini and Senderos as well as many of his Spanish colleagues. But unfortunately I do not see them coming back nor any Spaniards joining our team. Fabregas’s style is more that of the style of Xavi and Alonso. He is not the swashbuckling attacking partner like Iniesta and Gerrard but a player who plays deep and creates from deep. That is from where his vision and passing range are at their best. Unfortunately he falls far too short in his defensive duties and is too slow. That in itself would’nt be such a hindrance but for the fact that he is also still a bit too lightweight. He needs to improve and stand up for himself. At the moment, when his passing game is off he is a liability to the rest of the team. And it has been last season. Our best run came when Fabregas was out injured and I think it’s during this time that the team found another way to play without Fabregas. Nasri in my opinion is the answer to life without Fabregas. That as well as his constant admirations for Barcelona makes it hard to refuse a big money offer for him doesn’t it?

Clichy. Love him to bits but am liking Kieran Gibbs even more. Clichy may be one of the best around but this guy is gonna be even better. A left sided Danni Alves. lol. Gibbs has played against the very best and that includes players like Ronaldo, Valencia (Man U want him), Kuyt, Riera, Anelka amongst others and you know what, I think he’s done a pretty darn good job and keeping them quiet. Bounced back from that Champions league slip, this boy is tough as old boots already and plays for the club. Proper home grown British talent. Better going forward than Clichy and crossing is way, way better. Defensively just as good from the few games I have seen him play so far but the biggest ask is whether he can last a whole season. Probably not judging by our injury records. But’s that’s where Traore will come in to add to rotation options. When you consider that Vermalaen and Gallas can also play there it adds a lot of options and cover. We are truly blessed at left back.

  19. Steve

HAHAHA spot on Lou. By Palmer’s own admission Wenger will only share his thoughts with very few within his inner circle. I think GG had discussed certain topics in passing with him during his tenure and that is how he qualifies his ‘inner knowledge’.

Bearing in mind that the current board and management wouldn’t piss on George Graham if he was on fire i’m not entirely sure how that works but hey ho. Don’t try to use logic where Myles is concerned.

  20. SharkeySure

I though he subbed Eboue to save us 3 badly neeeded points.

I thought it ws hars gh on Eboue…but he needed saving from himself.

I’m not sure I could have let any player have another ten mins of the stick he was getting, especially if you could see it was killing him, and there were 3 pts at stake

  21. Franchise

steve are u not entertained? are u not entertained.

really off season is a nightmare.

i need to find a new passion apart from football and blogging about football

  22. Mayank

Haha my thoughts exactly… Either don’t have end of season breaks or find me another passion. India out of the WC as well… Great!

  23. dennisdamenace

Steve – Every fucker, spend our fucking money for once, just once – but, if i’m pushed Buffon, Chiellini, Cana, Melo, Zapata and a fucking winger, that should do it…..

Milan face the very real possibility of sending Aly Cissokho back to Porto and scrapping the move for him following a problem which has emerged regarding his teeth, according to Sky Sport Italia.

The Rossoneri were due to announce the conclusion of the deal for the stopper on Tuesday, but club doctor Jean-Pierre Meersseman has requested a further medical after what should have been his final examination revealed new concerns over the player’s teeth.

Update 14:10CET: Cissokho has had his extra medical exam at Milan Lab and he has left for his summer holiday’s in Senegal. Galliani is set to meet the player’s agent within the next hour in order to define the status of the transfer in terms of whether it goes through or not. The club have not confirmed the emerging details from Sky Sport Italia just yet though.

the deal now appears to be off

  25. Coadsi

Fiorentina are keen on Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos.

The Switzerland international admits he’d welcome a return to Italy next season after spending last term on-loan at AC Milan.

Fiorentina are now weighing up whether to make an approach to Arsenal to open talks over a fee for Senderos.

senderos + cash for melo then

  26. dennisdamenace

Oi steve you philfy phucker you work nera me don’t you, i’m about 5 minutes walk from The Blackfriar….

  27. Steve

Wherever my brokers take me generally.

I normally go Moorgate or Liverpool Street.

The Flying Horse and the Railway are my most regular haunts.

  28. Ras_Def

Hi there Grovers, hope all is good..
Can someone tell me when they are announcing the Player of the year???

  29. wardo

Steve……when I worked at a Japanese bank, our brokers use to take us to the Wattling down bow lane…….would only go back to the office to turn the pc off….

Doesn’t happen at my new place :(

  30. Steve

I know the Watling mate, nice little boozer. Was almost decimated in the great fire.

The Hatchet is a nice little boozer on Garlic Hill, just up from Canon Strasse.

  31. wardo

dont know the hatchet…….yeah always had a good few bitters (winter months only) in the wattling. They use to have a card that they would stamp so, you’d get your 8th pint for free…….obviously that was dangerous cause I sometimes tried to get my free pint in the same lunch hour. Could not see the screen on those days !!!

Ever go the Globe ?? Feels weird in the summer cause you are basically standing in the street drinking.

  32. Steve

When my boss returns to work in a couple of weeks we’ll get down there and get smashed up. Talk about Arsenal and watch the filthbags walk by.

  33. charybdis1966

I’m sure today was D Day for that Chav sheister, Steve.

Talking of cuty watering holes you must have tried the Balls Brothers near Liverpool street. I remember one infamous session I had there. Crikey.

  34. Steve

What’s a straight red then Franchise???

There are 2 chary. One is in The square overlooking the ice rink and 1 heading up to O’Neills.

The one by the ice rink is fucking huge.

  35. charybdis1966

Actually just seen Droghshit has got a 4 game ban – so he may only play 2 games in Europe this season if the chavs fall at the first stage.

  36. charybdis1966

It didn’t seem like a large place Steve so it must be the smaller one – I know lots of lawyers/accountants used to favour it but I remember being in the basement bit.

  37. Arsenal Tom

Arjen Robben’s father, Hans, has given his thoughts on his son joining Tottenham. “Absolute nonsense” he told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. “We don’t talk with Tottenham. At the moment we don’t talk with any club. Of course, things can change overnight, but one thing is sure: Arjen will certainly not join Tottenham.”

    ha ha, cunts

  38. SharkeySure

You sure that one over the Ice Rink is called Balls Bros…I though it was something else.

I worked right beside it up until 3yrs ago you’d think I’d remember…

    Ps. Drogba – 6 game ban !!

  39. Stu

Only a 6 game ban?Or is it 4? And only 3 for Bosingwa? What about Balack? He was a cunt aswell.
Disgraceful punishment! They got off light!

  40. charybdis1966

You’re right Sharkey – old “Planet of the apes mask” boy Ballack should have got at least a 4 game ban for that.

  41. Pedro

6 games… that is pretty hefty… but considering it was the semi’s of the champs league and the amount of people watching it… a bit of a kop out!

  42. Stu

Mayank, i dont give a shit abit Xabi anymore. The cunt should fuck off. Bastard always injuring Cesc. Best friends my ass!

  43. Samir

Melo would be the perfect buy. A bit like Alonso with his amazing passing and shots. He would fit in perfectly with fabregas. If I were Wenger I would offer 9M+Senderos seeing they are intrested in him. Melo is only 25 and a part of the Brazil squad. His value will double if not triple in the coming years.
Please Wenger sign him up with vermaelen, and whilst your at it sell Eboue-Buy Ibrahim Afellay. Toure/Djourou/Gibbs can cover at RB for Sagna.

  44. Stu

Melo is nothing like Alonso imo. Alonso is a passer, deep lying playmaker like Cesc (just not as good ;) ). Whereas Melo is a beast of a DM that breaks up play and plays the simple pass to the better players on the ball.

I have only seen him a handful of times and for Brazil he is just as i said above.
He would be a good buy. I say Wenger should get Gilbertos opinion on him first.

Who needs scouts when you can just ask current or ex players. Simples!

  45. Mayank

I was never too excited about the whole Xabi to Arsenal thing. He’s a good distributor but mascherano is the one who gets stuck in more. Its Melo all the way for me :D

  46. Stu

It would be pointless buying Afelley imo. He is talented but so what. We dont need another young Winger/attacking mid.

We need to be buying proven quality for the moment. And we can just promote the kids in a few years after that. And afelley would probably be about 10m. We already have Vela, Nasri, Wilshere coming through etc.

  47. Stu

I always liked Alonso but never thought he was the answer to our DM problems. He is just a taller, older version of Fabregas…but just not as good obviously.

  48. Arsenal Tom

Afellays a weird one… everyone seems to have known about him for ages but nobodies bid for him… kinda like huntelaar

  49. Samir

Stu from what I’ve seen of Melo his long range passing is as good/ better than Alonso’s IMO. An example of his passing would be the Juventus game where he had a Crackeer!! Here’s the highlights of him. Someone else had already posted it but just in case you didn’t see it:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBwrMCQU_-Q
And before you say I know you cant judge a player from youtube. I have seen him a few times for Brazil also.

  50. Mayank

Spurs want huntelaar… Is there any over-rated footballer they don’t want to pay over the odds for?

  51. Ja_Gunner

Seeing as Senderos likes Italy I hope we offer Fiorentina 12mil + Senderos for Melo…..its a deal they cant refuse.

I really think melo can emulate what Giberto did for us….but actually he is more mobile than Gilberto ever was….he is agressive and wont get bullied ..he would be perfect…Song and Denilson can learn from him.

And if we keep Eboue then Wenger has to be strategic….he must play Eboue alot in the early season….to rest Sagna..so that Sagna will be ready for that late January to February run…..whenever Eboue comes back he can again rest Sagna against all the bottom of the table teams..because most of them will be just parking the bus anyway..so we probably would not need the defensive prowess of Sagna.

  52. Faceman

PRETTY SURE WE WILL SIGN SAKHO THIS SUMMER

    Hager told Sport.co.uk Editor Nigel Brown;

“He will leave Paris Saint Germain this summer.”

However, when asked about the player’s statement last week on the official PSG website Hager replied:

“He was saying, yes ok, it is not a problem to stay at PSG, he is happy. But he could still move to a club in England or Germany. He wants to play in England or Germany so when the offer is ok he wants to go. But the offers this year so far are not ok. So at the moment he will stay for one more year in Paris.

Hager also commented on the interest from Premier League side Arsenal:

“When the offer is right from Arsenal he will move to Arsenal. But, Arsenal is not the only interest for him in England.”

  53. Stu

Samir, i never said Melo was a bad passer or anything like that. I agree he is a good passer but better than Alonso? No facking way.

His best passes in that clip were punts over the top. They were good passes, not great by any means imo. All easy enough passes and nothing on Alonso imo.

Mayank, Huntelaar underrated? No way! He is a great forward…goalscorer or whatever.

  54. leon

i think eboue is good utility or squad player but will never be first teamer and that doore was pretty shutt when aa came,i have to say that i have never seen alonso has dm answer that we need we already attacking midfielders quite a few in fact, but i feel confedent that wenger adress it this situation that has been left for quite few years,i dont this would happen but if it was me i would try att all costs to keep gallas, toure has not lookedthe same since sole cambell left in fact for long while senderos was playing better that him it sonly the 2 bolders against liverpool he made last season,if this deal goes through with ajax player then it means 1 of our defenders will have to go maybe senderos to fund the deal, selling silvestor wond fund anything, the big question will be is were song will next season because at very least he is good cover dm and cd

  55. Stu

I know that Faceman, im just saying he isnt a better passer than Alonso.
We just need a decent passer at DM, they arent being asked to spray the ball about like a playmaker.

  56. Stu

IF Vermaelen comes in then Someone should defo go. Im hoping Silvestre goes anyway because he is worse than useless.

Vermaelen, Gallas and Toure are basically the same. All small-ish, fast-ish and do the covering up. The only thing that seperates them is that Vermaelen is apparently very good in the air. So Its one of Gallas/Toure that will go with Vermaelen/JD/Senderos likely to occupy the other spot. And then Song can be the back-up for the back-ups.

  57. Mayank

Stu i think he is over-rated… he’s a good goalscorer that’s about it, can’t link up, can’t create, slow and not much of a worker either he’s only rated cause of his goal return most of which are set up for him.

  58. Stu

I know that Mayank, but what he lacks in creativity and such he more than makes up with his clinical-ness. Grwat goalscorer but obviously not the best forward.

I just hope he doesnt join another prem club because he WILL score against us.

  59. Mayank

Sat Jan 30 Manchester United H
    Sat Feb 6 Chelsea A
    Tue Feb 9 Liverpool H

WTF! just noticed this little detail of the fixture list. And i thought the start was bad.

  60. leon

    stu

i cant see senderos being willing to be 2 or 3 choice defender, both song/dj are ahead of him, plus player this from ajax if he comen and toure might stay just cant see it at best 3rd choice i think he is gone

  61. Franchise

stu why do u choose to expose ur ignorance by saying cesc is a deep lying playmaker ;)

Geoff; good post, something to mull over and something to digest. I am still waiting though, on something good to-day. Do you recall last summer???? There we were on the last day of the transfer window; hoping/ fingers crossed/ legs crossed, hearts beating and,Wenger, well he was off watching some Reserve game and we lost out on Alonso by £2m!!!! Surely surely, we will not go through another summer like that with a possible 1 purchase (Vermeelen – or whichever way you spell it) similar to last year with just Nasri (and some minions)whereas the other top 3 (if we’re still considered in that group of 4?)more than likely to top up with players that we all know the names of etc etc; can’t bear the thought/ give me something positive, make me smile and glow; buy a brute for centre back or two, a strong defensive midfielder, sell Ade and Eboue and I suspect most AFC fans would be fairly happy??
