What was your reaction when Spurs asked you to sign?

What was your reaction when Spurs asked you to sign?

Ok so here it is and it’s no surprise that new signing and Russian superstar Andre Arshavin wins by a mile, what’s incredible is he only started playing for us in February, and before you start crowing and claiming the credit Arsene, think what could have happened if you had signed him last summer, well him and a few more, but I’ll come onto that.

Let me also say I was surprised no one voted for me as champ given I got 70 odd votes yesterday, so I guess our stalkers only vote on the chump issue, which explains a lot.

Onto Arsenal, as expected Francesc Fabregas denied saying what the Spanish News of The World ‘Mucka’ claimed he said, I get really pissed off when some fans get pissed off, with what Cesc supposedly said, he issues about 14,000 denials a season and yet he’s still questioned, this kid is as Arsenal as Tony Adams and will only leave when he’s not wanted, or when he gets fed up with his loyalty being questioned, so a word of warning to all who may not believe in our captain, I do.

Other great news is that Gael Clichy has said he’s going no-where which unfortunately means there’s no real room for Traore, except that is on the wing and that’s fine if he’s good enough, one thing is for sure, he’s a better left winger than Eboue, who now wants to go to a Spanish club, shame because I still think he is a quality right back, but if we have a youngster as cover, I will settle for that, I know the boss won’t sign my preferred choice which is Glen Johnson.

Jean Thissen, that well known Belgian manager of Togo has lobbed Adebayor out of his team as Adebayor started to tell him what he should be doing, really? that surprises me, Adebayor rates hmself. Arsene, take note, you were warned when he was at Monaco, he’s disruptive, he’s not that good so get rid of him.

Cesc, Dennis Bergkamp and Ian Wright all gave Denilson and Song the vote of confidence by suggesting we needed a ball winner in midfield, Cesc said in the mould of a Vieira, Gilberto or a Flamini, Berkamp went further and suggested YaYa and Ian Wright said that it must be really tough for Cesc to play alongside Denilson week in, week out, actually he said worse but I’ll leave it there. So, so much for stats eh?

If Arsene Wenger doesn’t act now, after Seaman, Smith, Dixon, Winterburn, Nicholas, DB10, Wrighty, Pires, Adams, big Frank and now his very own adopted son Cesc have all said, since the window has opened, that we need to buy a world class defensive midfielder, then I will truly despair, they surely can’t all be wrong, there has to come a time when Arsene can see it isn’t going to happen for certain players, well not now anyway, the thing is if he doesn’t act, our season will be over again by September like it’s been for 4 out of the last 5 seasons.

Enjoy today and basking in Andre Arshavin’s limelight, Andre you win a case of Peroni but you have to do an interview to claim it, it’s your call!

Have a great day Grovers, Keiran Gibbs had a good game last night and he’s next up against Spain on Thursday, tune in, he is one for the future.

Wardo, the first 6 were leaked by goonertalk yesterday. The draw is being made today i think and announced tomorrow. Not sure tho.

  2. Wardo

    Stu….thanks mate.

Pat / Stu…how can the first 6 be leaked. Sureley they have not be drawn yet.

Anyway, doesn’t matter bout the start !! Remember Manure fell way off the pace last season but still managed to win it. They also were off Lpools pace this season and again won……

  3. Stu

And this way we can get the hard games out of the way early on and determine whether we actually have a chance at the title instead of getting hopeful only to cave in.

  4. choy

wardo.. i do think the media or the broadcasters get it beforehand.

its not like they will pull it up 5 mins before publishing it.

    David

So AdeNuff the season before last was a better player than Torres???

Ps. Michael Owens ‘a good finisher’ his one man catalogue says so !!

    ==================

For the record. Ade is not good enough for Arsenal and i think he should be sold ASAP for a better Forward.

But the answer is not the child who has 4 assists and 9 goals…90% of which against relegation fodder.

  6. Stu

Sweden Belarus. Should be an awful game. I hoe im wrong tho because i need some good football. Italy Serbia should be good tho……

  7. Wardo

he may have been measured a few years back….

Abdulllllllllllla….you cheeky B’tard!! I was well and truly Rick Rolled !!!

  8. Arsenal Tom

In response to stories in the French press linking him with a move to Real Madrid, Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna gave Arsenal.com the following statement.

“I have seen the quotes attributed to me in the French media today and I just want to put the record straight. These comments are not accurate and I’m not aware of any speculation linking me to another club. I am 100 per cent committed to Arsenal.

“This is a great Club and I’m proud to wear the shirt. I’m looking forward to returning for pre-season training in July and preparing for the challenges that next season will bring. We have a great squad of players at the Club and I know that we can achieve something together at Arsenal, my focus is nowhere else.”

  9. SharkeySure

David 17.02 How about you copy paste your commment from 16.29 and give the full picture..??

Ps. Who’s ‘the child’ you are referring to..??

Ps2. Do you remember Clive Allen and Tony Cottee..?? If not, read up their stats, then tell me they were great players cos they were good finishers

  10. Stu

Barbie is 21, hardly a child. And he is as old, if not older than the players that some people would prefer instead of him so……

ANyway, lets leave this topic alone. It occupies too many hours everytime it comes up and we never get anywhere with it.

  11. David

    Sharkey

I dont know them…and if they were great finishers..then my guess is they didnt have half the chances the child has.

I wont get into the Bendy thing again…cuz i promised i wont. There is nothing wrong with hoping a player comes good but to somehow suggest that Bendy is the answer now?

    heh.

Plus Sharkey…what really are you getting at?

  12. SharkeySure

David – I’m getting at the fact that you made a statement at 16.29 which I felt was completely wrong.

Ie. If one striker scores more than another then he’s the better striker. (Copy and paste doesn’t seem to work for me here at work)

Ethan…I just mean that most teams have one AM or man with a free role. Madrid now have two plus any of the current ones they don’t/can’t sell.

everything cannot remain static in football ,
raul will have to eventually step down as will van nestle roy , van der Vaart, garcia , Gago, Saviola … at the end of the day , id rather have players like kaka – villa and ronaldo in my line up every day of the week and twice on sundays ..

they will adapt , they are pro’s

look how Arshavin adapted straight into arsenal ..
i cant see anything wrong with wanting players like that at a club , it shows ambition ..

maybe arsenal fans are the wrong ones to convince about ambition :)

    ohhh arrrrrrrr..

  14. Pat

Did you see the paper that had Sagna’s original quotes before? I’ve never even heard of it!

    Great news from bacary though.

Mamadou Sakho’s agent has confirmed that Inter have enquired about the PSG starlet.

While the French press have claimed that the Nerazzurri have offered Paris Saint Germain a swap with Patrick Vieira, the defender’s agent has confirmed holding talks with the Serie A champions.

The highly rated 19-year-old France Under-21 international has also been linked with Arsenal, and Tim Hager, his representative, has claimed that Sakho will turn his back on the Italian league, as he would rather move to either The Premier League or the Bundesliga.

“He doesn’t want to play in Italy,” Hager told Calciomercato.

“We are yet to make a decision regarding his next destination, but moving to an Italian club is not on the cards.

“Where is he going to move? In Germany or England.

“I can confirm that we have been contacted by Inter, but it was a while ago.”

is he really that good …

if we are to bring in 1 or 2 only ???

  19. Pat

Kaka will be the most successful in Madrid, I think. He’s the most humble and won’t have a problem dealing with egotistical teammates.

Is it just me, or was Eboue more effective than Theo on RW towards the end of the season?

I don’t know why, I just don’t see Theo becoming world class. I don’t even see him becoming better than Owen was(in his short time).

  20. dennisdamenace

  23. Stu

Sheva was great at chelski. He didnt do anything himself but he slowed the chavs down and in fairness he did help Drogshit get 30 goals.
Sheva is class, shame chelski broke him.

  24. Paulinho

Walcott is just very one-dimensional. When people talking about him needing service and using that as an excuse for his performances, it just proves the point, considering he’s playing on the wing.

He’s very useful option though but we have too many players that are useful options.

  25. Stu

For someone playing on the wing Theo is fairly useless. People say he needs the service etc but arent wingers supposed to be the ones supplying others?

  26. ethangunner

    DDM

yes your very correct just after cesc has finished just saying PLEASE arsene please sign someone good centrally to partner me , we end up
    with Tomas Hitzlpretzel

  27. dennisdamenace

For a club who supposedly haven’t a pot to piss in, the Bindippers have splashed out a fair bit on a fullback….

  28. Man

So Stu, could you tell us more on this Hitzlsperger…how would u you describe his playing style? etc etc. I remember him being an ‘ok’ player when he played for Villa. Has he changed? Is he the German Gareth Barry?

  29. Armourist

Get a couple of Centre backs in, everything else and the players we have now are what we need to win titles.

As far as I am aware Cana, Melo hasnt won the league, so they bring nothing we havent got. Diarra at Madrid is injury prone since he knackered himself and this long term injury is result of the continued damage and at 30 can he keep pace, doubt it. Alou Diarra, we can have a look at him but i imagine some would complain at having a liverpool reject.

The fact is Denilson is doing a good and will be a good player, I agree with those that profess that he might not be ready yet and say you have to play to be ready, but not those who think he isnt good enough. I like Diaby, he jus needs consistent playing time to get consistency. I am plesantly surprised by Song, I am honestly leaning towards better the devil you know as they know how to play most of the players in the league now.

New CM’s means bedding in time and that means we start the season knowing we cant win it. At least with the status quo they can only get better and we are still in with a shout.

  30. Pat

I think they’ll sell one of Masch or Alonso to Madrid.

Rumors up again that Rafa wants Blaszczykowski from BVB for 7 million pounds. Good luck with that.

  31. dennisdamenace

People recently slated the idea of Barry coming to The Arse, but when Barry and Hitzlesplatter were at Villa together Barry made the Kraut look like a reserve player, and an Aston Villa reserve player at that!!!!

  32. Stu

Fuckin’ ‘ell, this Swedish striker Berg is brilliant. 2 goals in the last 10 minutes. Both great finishes too.
And he got 26 goals last season.

Not that i want another young’un coming in.

  33. kelsey

Theo Walcott the enigma or what.

thre and a half years at the club, went for some bizarre reason to The World Cup (to sit on the bench and fetch the ice creams).Over hyped at 16, seems to have kept a cool head, but world class potential, no way.

I personally think his development, to say the least has been slow, and Wenger was thinking at one time to loan him out(which usually means the kiss of death, though nic MAY turn out to hav e benefited)

Anyone agree or disagree. The general census of opinion is that he WILL make a central striker one day,but to me he is a disappointment.

  34. Man

if they sell Alonso he’d need replacing, won’t he? is that blashinkoooski any good?

Stu, so if he’s better than Garry Barry then he must decent. Well i’ll go with that, for £5m that is a deal.

    Kelsey,

As for Theo I’ll judge him at 23

  35. Man

hmmnnn…hold on a minute…Stu Stu…why is Hitzlburger not a starter for Germany? If he is that good he should be benching 33/34 year old Frings…Stuuuu

  36. Paulinho

Walcott doesn’t seem to have a strikers instinct, unlike Owen. He makes a good run once in a blue moon.

The type of player Walcott is means he will be quiet for the most of the game if played up front, and if he hasn’t got a striker’s instinct to compensate for that, then I can only see him being a disappointment up there as well.

  37. Mark C

    Hi Guys,

Why is everyone getting on the back of Hitzelberger.

He is not confirmed as coming, but people have issues with him.

When we were linked to a French midfielder, Matisdu or something everyone thought he would be great. He would be more expensive, and have less experience. In fact he would have less experience than Song.

Just because he is not a big money signing it does not mean that he would not be good.

He has Prem experience, CL experience, and international experience. I would guess he is probably better than Cana, and everyone raves about him, as he dishes out some meaty tackles.

Should we get Nolan from Newcastle, or Davies from Bolton, both of them can dish it out, but cant play the Arsenal way.

If we do sign him, and sign him early he will get a good pre season with the squad, and that is more important.

Big names, and fees dont win you games.

I am sure Cesc, would know all about him, he played against him in the semi final of Euro 2008, and you dont get there by chance.

  38. ReVELAtion

Let’s be honest.. All Walcott has going for him is pace and that he’s english… Got more faith in Wilshire, Gibbs, Bartley & Lansbury if i’m honest…

  39. Stu

Theo is the opposite to Wilshere, who we all agree is going to be the dogs bollocks. So that doesnt bode well for young Feo.

I do like Theo but i cant judge him properly until he plays in a more forward position. Right midfield/wing doesnt suit him, we all know it but yet Wenger still persists.

I wanna see him through the middle or on the left Wing. Similar to the position Henry played. Porper left wing tho. Not in midfield.

  40. Stu

Hitzelsperger only just got into the German fold i think. Him and Roffes are fighting it out for a CM position as far as i know to fill the void that will be left by Frings and/or Bollock.

  41. dennisdamenace

Mark C – We get on the back of him because he’s fucking average, and he’s being touted for The Arse….

  42. Mark C

Man – yes just checked, he played in the final of Euro 2008.

Does anyone here think a player who started that game is not a talented player?

I would be excited to see him play for Arsenal.
I would prefer Alonso, but think it is more realistic to see him sign for us.

I would also like to see some of the deadwood sold as well.

If Eboue is asking to leave, I am happy to show him the door.

Same for Silvestre, Diaby, Simpson, Adebayor, and most of the player who were out on loan last season.

  43. Mark C

    DDM – Average.

    Are you having a laugh?

Is he not better than the players we already have in that position?

Were we after an experienced CM? Yes
I cant say I have watched Stuggart week in and week out, but he is a first choice German International, captain of Stuggart, and coming into the prime of his career.

You may be after Alonso or Toure, but they are not realistic, as they wont be sold.

I would like Essien, but he wont be sold.

  44. Stu

I agree with Mark. He isnt average, nor is he world class. but we wont get world class so Hitzelsperger would be a good buy and he is definately better than what we have.

  45. Paulinho

    All I’ve read today from people who want Hitzelsperger is that is either;

    1) 27
    2) Got premiership experience
    3) Is Stuttgart’s captain
    4) Costs £5million
    5) Played a few times for Germany

There’s been very little of what he actually bring as a football player, attribute wise. My guess is that people have remembered a few of long range goals from his Villa days, lumped it in with that stuff I’ve mentioned above, and come to the conclusion he’s great signing.

I just remember him being a very mediocre footballer, not very creative, not overly aggressive. Basically a German Denilson, as someone sid earlier on.

  46. Mark C

Stu – he seems to start most games for Germany from what I can see.

he started the semi, and final of Euro 2008.

  47. Pat

“Football is a game of centimetres with a very small margin of error. Pass just a fraction too early or too late and it’s a foul. A second too quick or too slow and you’ve missed the ball. But you’re surrounded by the centimetres you need to win, they’re every minute and every second of the game. You have to fight for every centimetre, you have to run yourself into the ground for that centimetre. You have to fight tooth and nail for that centimetre.

Because when You add up all those centimetres, what you get is the difference between victory and defeat.”

  48. dennisdamenace

Ask yourself this then, if he is so good why did no one else try to buy him from Villa, and more importantly, why aren’t any other so-called big clubs sniffing him now?

I’m not saying he’s rubbish, just average, and imo he’s not gonna make much of a difference to the performance of our midfield….

  49. Mark C

    Paulinho –

From memory, he was an improving player at Villa.

In his last season he was their best player, and was wanted by other clubs.

    He seemed to play centrally.

I remember Petit, playing on the left, being good at breaking up play, but also contributing as well.

I dont think he would have got 45 caps if he was Denilson like. Denilson, has not made an impact in the Brazilian team, even though they like to have 2 holding players.

  50. Man

blasphemy! blasphemy!! Pat that is blasphemy on le grove

Mark, I think him starting had to do with Frings getting injured or suspended…
Like Paulinho pointed out and I alluded to earlier, is this geezar actually any better than what we have already? that’s what I’d like ask bloggers who watch bundesliga…but if der boss thinks he is then i’ll follow in blind faith cos he and his scouting network prob know more than I do…(OMG that sounded like an AKB)

  51. incesc

is hitzelberger any worse than barry??

his played in much bigger games than barry at least and hes not a money grabbing cunt, (yet)

  52. Maciek

Hello guys. I think that buying Stutgart captain for 5 milion wouldn’t have been a bad idea. Of course I would love to see Cana, but many people here say that he is an average player(Lorik).
For me Vaermalean, Jahusz, and Cana, and I will be happy. And sell Ade.

  53. Mark C

DDM – I find it hard to believe that a proven international can be average.

No one actually knows who is in for who.
Other clubs might go in for him now we have declared an interest, but 5 mill for a player with a year on his contract is actually a high price.

I dont think we will buy a human wall. To play for Arsenal you need a bit of skill as well, and be able to play the passing football.

People said Barry was too slow for Arsenal, and perhaps he was, but we need a player who can fit into the team, and the way we play.

  54. dennisdamenace

Do you guys really truly believe this is the kind of signing that will prove to Fab4 (and even RvP) of our ambition???

  55. Stu

I dunno now. Hitzl is a good player, otherwise he wouldnt be playing for germany or captain of a title challenging team. Didnt he win the league in his first season there?

He isnt world class but he is defo better right now than Denilsong and Diaby. I say sell Diaby and bring in Hitzl. Whats the worst that could happen? We might get better? God forbid!

  56. Paulinho

Hitzelsperger is the sort of player a midfield of Hleb-Fabregas-Flamini- Rosicky would have run rings around if they played Stuttgart in the Champions league a couple of years ago.. One of those lazy Van Der Vaart type players.

I know he’s not a wide man but I just don’t want someone with such a limited game. And he is limited, very limited, from what I’ve seen of him, and not capable of playin the sort of football we should be aspiring to. Neither is Denilson, Diaby or Song, but I don’t see the point of bringing another one in.

  57. Mark C

Man – Frings and Hitzelberger, played in the same team together that started the finals of Euro 2008.

They dont compete for the same spot.

  58. Stu

He wasnt great at Villa because they are shite and noone was good at that point. And they played him left midfield.

    4-1 sweden. Berg hattrick.

  59. dennisdamenace

Mark C – imo, the closest player to a Petit is Alonso, but my belief is that players like him do not look at us seriously anymore, and that coupled with AW’s (but more likely the board’s) reluctance to put up the cash for a player of Alonso’s calibre will mean until there is a major change of direction we will always be going for the second tier of players/transfers….

  60. Paulinho

The only german midfield player who has been above average over the last decade is Michael Ballack. Schneider, Ramelow, Kehl, Frings, Neuville, Rolfes, are all very average football players, in terms of playing a creative game.

The likes of Beckenbaur has spent the last ten years slating them at every major tournament.

  61. Stu

Exactly DDM, and Hitzl is in or around that second tier. We arent going to get a much better type of player for the money he is on offer for. Unfortunately!

  62. Stu

I feel bad for anyone we sign because before they have even officially signed they get picked apart on here…and probably in ther places.

But i guess the internet is to blame for that. Vermaelen is old news and he hasnt even signed yet. Nothing is a suprise anymore. At least not in a good way….Silvestre was a shite suprise.

  63. Man

if you say so Mark…I mean Clichy is a god at the Arse but can’t start for France, Denilson can’t even get into the Brazil team but still does a job for us…I wasn’t being too serious there…

as for the euro final, the reason those 2 played together was because Ballack was moved to play behind the striker, a role that Ballack was given from the semis I think…Gomez wasn’t firing so they decided to change their formation slightly as Ballack offers a threat from set-pieces…When they play 442, they do most times, then first choice midfield partnership is/was Ballack-Frings…but hey, you might be right Hitzlburger might forced his way to be a first team player for Germany…More importantly, how does he play that is what I’m really interested in cos i don’t watch youtube vids

  64. incesc

the hitzleberger thing reminds me a bit of the gilberto signing he was fairly cheap too. didnt seet the world alight…

    did a great job tho

  65. Man

his got 45 caps for Germany so he can’t be a mug…don’t know much about him so wouldn’t judge…he’s not going to the ANC so good news there…now lets hope the deal goes through if indeed AW thinks he is what we need, after all its all speculation at the mo…the ‘big’ players in our team should show ambition by applying themselves…£5m is a bloody good deal if is true!

  66. ManGoonian

Football’s a funny old game, as some sad bitter old drunken has bean used to say….

There I was getting all worked up coz Sagna was apparantly effin off to Real, then lo and behold he has come out said the quotes are bullshit, while at the same time dear old Eboue says he wants to go!!!

    Rollercoaster ride or what, baby???

  67. Pedro

I’ve just been alerted to our full back quotes!

I can’t believe they are attracting such interest… they didn’t have the best seasons did they?

I still believe they are two of the best in Europe… it’s great they are both committed.

Clichy, RvP and Cesc are they type of characters we need to keep in the team.

    Arsenal through and through.

  68. Stu

They had a pretty poor season considering what we know they are capable of. But its nice to see players not bailing out when things are going bad. Shows that they dont just want trophies. They want trophies with arsenal. Good news imo.

i realy feel wenger t ry to get dm must i think it must be someone realy ultra specaul of the stature viera but that is going be extremly difficult i dont of many dm players that are that good around, not flamani who had great season comes anywere close that him. so its going be a problem finding someone like that,it is looking more and more likely that wenger will get this play er from ajax which will most likely mean that song will stay dm position,i have not seen him play but he must be realy good, but question still remains who will leave, and depending wenger willbuy more players but it does look as if senderos and silbvestor may go

Leon, the closest thing to Vieira in his pomp is Yaya. And Barca arent letting him go so we are going to have to look elsewhere for a DM because imo Denilsong just isnt the answer if we are looking to win something major.
The best defences usually win the trophies and with Denilsong/diaby in front of any defence it is gonna leak some goals.

  71. Pedro

Stu, I really don’t think Yaya is anywhere near the player Paddy was.

He is good… but I think he is made to look better by those around him.

  72. incesc

yaya aint fit to tie vieiras boots stu

Hes a workhorse in a very talented team.

vieira dominated the premiership for years

  73. Stu

Yeah Pedro. I dont think he is as good either. But he is probably the nearest thing around at the moment. Not saying he is as good.

  74. incesc

what do you reckon on hitzleberger stu?

sounds like a classic wenger signing to me, and its not like there are many mascheranos around

    stu

i agree for most part but its comination both cd and dm both work in conjunction and song and delinson have done realy well and long periods of the season kept things realy tight however if your cd cover is not good enough that will always cause problems but if you have realy solid cd i not half help alot,i dont count diaby, delinson and song are both only 21 still learning and improving and already improved alot have played with fab alot this season that will help but again not alot vieriers out there

  76. Stu

I would be in favour of buying him incesc. But i dont know an awful lot about him so…..cant really help here,

  77. ManGoonian

Well, if there’s a 21 year old tall lanky athletic footballer, kickin his heels in the reserves at Milan, or sum where like that and Wenger bought him, most of you’s would give him a right load of shite!

  78. Stu

    That depends Mangoonian.
Was this tall lanky atlethic footballer once captain of a french team? If so then i saw lets get him.

  79. ManGoonian

Saying aoo that, IF Wenger spent £5m on a player who wasnt good enough for Villa, then I WILL give him some shite! Hitzleburger is surely pure baloney??

    excerpt

Cesc Fabregas limped out of training with the Spanish national team today after a strong tackle by Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.

It is the second time that Fabregas has been injured by Alonso this year following on from a tackle in the Premier League game between Arsenal and Liverpool at the Emirates in December.

AS reports that a hard tackle from Alonso damaged the left knee of Fabregas and that, with some annoyance, he left training.

The session was the last before the game with Iraq tomorrow and also featured another tough tackle by Albert Riera on Santi Cazorla.

It is not yet known how serious the injuries are to either Cazorla or Fabregas but it looks almost certain that the Arsenal man will miss the game tomorrow
