Fantasy Winner + other transfer gossip…!

So, the fantasy champion has been unveiled as Mark O’Connell! Well played Mark, send me your address details and I’ll try and send you a crate of Peroni! Dylan, you are the proud winner of an Arsenal cap!

It’s a stupid game, for stupid people.. in fact, the more clevererer you is, the lower you finish… which is why finishing 239th out of 302 is actually a good thing for me.

Just kidding of course… well played guys, 302 entrants is pretty good! I’ll get the entry up even earlier this year and hopefully supply you with some more exciting prizes!

Onto things of a footballistic nature…

The Chav-Toffee cup final was a bit of a washout… I predicted Everton would go one up and Chlesea would in 2-1… I even backed my assertions with a £2 bet and this morning, I am £13.50 better off. Geoff has been officially fired from predictions for next season.

The final was pretty dire if I’m honest. Everton didn’t really offer too much going forward and Chelsea didn’t really insist on playing great football. The winner from Frank Lampard was pretty special… it still makes me laugh when I read people saying he is an overrated player. The guy is pure class, he’s not a fancy player, but he’s been one of the most consistently productive players of the last 5 years and yesterday he showed why he is paid the big dollar.

If you are interested, there is a really boring article here about Theo Walcott and some crazy fight he got into at school. The journo who held that interview should be sacked… what a pile of rubbish.

Theo, there is a saying… unless you’ve got something interesting to say, don’t say it at all. I’ll give you an example…

‘And once – and I’ve never admitted this to anyone before – when I was at Southampton I was going on the train to Reading with another player, Jake Thompson. We were 16 at the time but we said we were 15 to get kids’ tickets.’

Not intersting Theo… You’re like that girl from American Pie… ‘And this one time, at band camp…’

There is also a story about Barcelona signing Cesc for £45million.

I found out yesterday that a lot of the news agencies are going green this summer in a bid to reduce their carbon impact on the environment. They’re going to recycle a lot of last summers stories over and over again in a bid to save on the hot air they usually spout.

This particular story seems to have come from the ever reliable Mirror website. It is key for you to know that the Mirror has suffered the most out of the dailies in the past ten years losing something like 18% of their readership… their pathetic attempts to conjur up some intersest in their two bit, poorly written piece of crap is nothing short of embarrassing.

My suggestion? Ignore stories unless you like them… then talk about them all summer in the hope they will happen!

BARRY TO ARSENAL!

Have a great day Grovers and remember, don’t take sweets from strangers.

Chelsea and playing great football can’t be included in one sentence let along the same paragraph, post, blog or even website. Have to agree though, Fat Frank is pure class and keeps them ticking.

City have an unlimited budget and they want to buy Tevez AND Barry??? Wow! Most of us on here could come up with a better list of players if money were no object.

  12. Cartman says:

and concerning the cesc rumours, the media will always link him to barca but he shud also be held responsible for this imo. why did he have to say “everyone wud be dream to play for barca” when we are all aware of his love for barca!

    Morning Gooners!
I just woke up and had a vision…
I think we should sell Cesc, van Persie, Gallas & Denìlson!!!

    Reason why?

    I’ll tell you:
Cesc should go simply cause he wants to and Arshavin will fill that gap.
van Persie, well we simply don’t need him (with Eduardo coming back to full fitness next season)
Gallas, (he’s a good player but I simply can’t stand him)
and Denìlson (he will never be good enough for Arsenal)

With selling these 4 players we will have cash to buy “Experienced players” and Barry or Yaya Touré (for Denilson), Hangeland, Richards or Taylor (for Gallas) That would be enough!

In my mind van Persie & Cesc we have replacements for already!

The Team would be like this: (if my prefered replacements come true)

    Almunia
    Sagna, Touré, Hangeland, Clichy
    Walcott, Yaya, Arshavin, Rosicky
    Eduardo, Adebayor

    Second Team would be:

    Fabianski
    Eboué, Djourou, Silvestre, Gibbs
    Nasri, Song, Diaby, Wilshere
    Bendtner, Vela

Even a third team not too bad:

    Mannone
    Hoyte, Nordtveit, Bartley, Traoré
    Lansbury, Mérida, Ramsey, Emmanuel-Thomas
    Watt, Simpson

In my mind that would make me happy!

I know many of you think i’m stupid wanting Cesc to leave but I would sleep better knowing there wouldn’t be any speculations about him anymore.
And also he would eventually go back to spain anyway in a couple of years to play his best football (in the age of 25-28 there…
I know i’m right, so why not cash in now and get some experience where we need it!

  27. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Howdy Ray long time no read.

  28. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Ray on Cesc & RVP. I’m not waiting another 3 years for the replacements to replace them properly

  29. Damn_Gallas says:

well well well… if the jokers are ready to offer 45million pounds for cesc.. then i would take it. Sell adebayor for another 20million, i would have 65 million. On top of these, i have another 20 million from the board. totaling the transfer budget to 85million pounds.

Spend this money wisely, on Bassong, Hangeland, Mbia, Marouane Chamakh, lori cani. This way, we would have 2 quality defender, 2 quality defensive midfielder and a striker. We would also have plenty of money left behind to tie down deals for RvP and others.

Fabregas can be easily replaced with arshavin playing in his role. Arshavin attacking from the center will is going to be more deadly than he starting on the left. Therefore it will be a smart move.

other wise, simply have wilshere or merida to take over from cesc. They are both left footers and are capable of making accurate passes and dictate the speed of the game.

So for me, if an offer of 40+ million pounds come in for cesc, just take it. 20+ million pounds for adebayor, just take it. Keep the rest of the squad. We will be damn powerful next season.

  30. reggie57 says:

Ray keep on taking the tablets haha

  31. LAzer says:

Damn Gallas and Ray Gooner, am so glad you all do not run our clubs transfer policy. The main problem in your “replacement policy” is that Arshavin is not a CM. And that’s just the main problem amongst others.

  32. reggie57 says:

Il tell you what lets sell all our players pay off the debt and start again job done!

  33. Test says:

Yaya toure plays for the biggest and best club on the planet, he has just done the treble and he will sign for a team that finished 4th and swap iniesta xavi henry messi and eto for song diaby denilson ade and edu because………..

  34. LAzer says:

Might I add, Eduardo replaces Van Persie is a fallacy as well since they play different positions and are nothing alike. Also, we probably shouldn’t be replacing Gallas since someone cannot stand them but also since Richard or Taylor neither really come close to his class at all.

  35. reggie57 says:

YaYa will sign for us out of brotherly love, oh yeah
    sounded like randy savage then!!

  36. LAzer says:

Yeah that’s probably our best bet Reggie. We should sell the squad, get 200 mill for it, and just take it.

  37. Test says:

What do people see as the absolute minimum in terms of additions required by the squad?

  38. reggie57 says:

    Just kidding Lazer!!

  39. chiku says:

Guys mornin 2 u.. well iv been thinking ever since the barca victory… CAN CESC GET IN THAT TEAM???? seriously speaking, yes hes brilliant.. yes vision is up there But can he really play the roles of inesta or xavi…. of course he can play where busquez was playin but would he like to be competin with him, toure, keita and whom ever they are likely to buy…. career-wise he should stay atleast until for sum time but who are we to stop him for ruining his own career

  40. Iqtesab says:

    wat bout selling ade?
    he shud be da 1st
rumour has it we’re selling eboue and gallas too
    lol

  42. khalid says:

    no.9 that’s me!! wooohooo!! -anthraximus-

  43. KK says:

Ade should be sold.cesc should n’t.why there isnt any fresh news of ade linking with a move away..?

  44. Rohan says:

fabregas will leave when xavi goes on the wane/retires. FACT!!!
mark my words he is not going to go it itally and definitely not to madrid..barcelona is his only destination. imo we should see him there in 4 years when hopefully we shall have an even better merida to take his place.

  45. RayGooner says:

Just to remind you all, Arshavin has played most of his career in central midfield…and it’s where he prefers playing too!

  46. RayGooner says:

let’s build the team around Arshavin instead and in time will build it around Wilshere (cause being english he’s more likely to stay his whole career at Arsenal, than Cesc will)

  47. RayGooner says:

Don’t get me wrong, if i knew we’d have Cesc here for the rest of his career i’d keep him, no doubt! But we all know he won’t, so…

  48. Rohan says:

im not so sure of that raygooner. he IS a second striker who is capable of playing on the wings ( preferably in a 4-3-3) he hardly has any defensive capability to be able to play CM in the premier league.

  49. RayGooner says:

well, Rohan, the defensive part i’ll leave to Yaya or Barry or who’m ever we get to play there!
Remember i said i’d only want to sell Cesc if we get those experienced players in instead, and we’ll have that chance with the money Cesc will bring us…

  50. LAzer says:

At best Arshavin is an attacking midfielder or a winger but definitely not a center mid. Plus the argument that since Cesc will leave one day we might as well have him leave right now is a bit illogical to say the least.

  51. goonermichael says:

I came 300th out of 302 in the fantasy league. Gutted I didn’t come last. Fat frank may be a good footballer but lamapard and class should never be used in the same sentence. he is a cunt

  52. LAzer says:

haha gm. I’ll give you that but I meant more in his football not about him being fat frank and a chav. RAy I reckon you should go back to sleep as your vision is definitely not good for the club.

  53. Rohan says:

well he is better than dogbreath and ” Captain fantastic-pride of engerland” JOHN TERRY.

  54. RayGooner says:

Look at it this way, i know Cesc has more defensive skills than Arshavin, but he only had to use them more this season because of what we had playing in the defensive midfield role, Cesc couldn’t rely on what Song or Denìlson did there, he didn’t feel safe so he had to help out more defensivly. If we get Yaya or Barry, Arshavin wouldn’t have to deal with that problem would he?
Of course if we could get Yaya or Barry in without selling Cesc it would be better, but surely we wouldn’t have the cash for that (remember we have to have a central defender too)…

  55. Rohan says:

raygooner, are you saying that CM’s is arshavin’s best position???

  56. RayGooner says:

It’s simple really, If we keep Cesc we won’t have any money to spend big! And then it will be as it has been in the last 3-4 years, Wenger will just bring in more kids…
It’s experience we need, isn’t it?

  57. RayGooner says:

Attacking central midfield is he’s best position

  58. Test says:

If you play central midfield you have to be able to tackle regardless of who is alongside you.

AAs best position is behind the striker, if he plays left wing next year we will not get the bst out of him.

  59. Rohan says:

arshavin’s forte is not pinging in pinpoint balls from midfield and controlling the game which is the job of a midfielder. he is good at going past players and bringing in other players into the game while posessing a great finish/shot. he is the heir to bergkamp’s throne.
we have all seen how detrimental it is to play players out of position. ffs he has been complaining about playing on the wing leat alone in CM.

  60. LAzer says:

Ray I don’t believe it is about whether or not Yaya or Barry would cover defensively for Arshavin or not, its more like Arshavin simply does NOT play in the center of midfield, simple as. He can play as an attacking midfielder which means he is NOT a central midfielder and that’s that.

And I hope we do not make decisions on transfers so we can sleep better not having to worry about speculation because then we would not be able to sleep at all when we fall to mid-table mediocrity.

  61. RayGooner says:

As i see it we have 3 players that could play in the attacking central midfield position (Arshavin, Nasri or Rosicky) And they all can play wide too of course and that will provide them to change positions during the game, but Arshavin should play in the middle, yes.
And it’s what he wants to do also…

  62. choy says:

    Morning all..

alons has mascherano and barry has petrov.. they do not protect the back four on their own.

if we get 45 for cesc.. i think there is only one choice.

  63. LAzer says:

I don’t believe there is a position “attacking central midfield.” That’s like saying defensive right winger.

  64. choy says:

If cesc goes we will be fine.. we did pretty ok when he was injured i think

    Almunia

    ….BACK 4…..
    …DM…DM…
    walcott/nasri arshavin rosicky
    Edu/ Rvp Nick

  65. choy says:

Yeah lazer.. eboue is defensive right winger FACT!!

    hehe

  66. Test says:

    Defensive right winger – Eboue.

    Attacking Goalie?

  67. RayGooner says:

Look at this team and tell me what’s wrong with it?

    Almunia
    Sagna, Touré, Hangeland, Clichy
    Yaya
    Walcott, Arshavin, Rosicky
    Adebayor, Eduardo

  68. choy says:

    attacking centre back.. gallas/toure

  69. choy says:

    Ray…

both the toures and ade off to ACN

  70. Test says:

I love the fact that people are putting Edu and Rosicky is their fantasy lineups. I will be amazed if between them they play 30 games. Rosicky has been out for two years, he will probably pull a muscle every other week.

  71. choy says:

yeah well test.. we have no one else… we won’t be buying much

    today’s news:

aguero and ancellotti to the chavs.

    hughes 250million kitty

  72. RayGooner says:

ok, i admit the “Attacking central midfielder” sounds a bit off, but what i mean is he should not play wide, he should play in the middle of the pitch going forward…

  73. LAzer says:

I think even at 45 it would be an error to sell Fab as who would you replace him with? Surely no one you can promote at the moment is ready to step up to his level and probably the only two who would be sufficient replacements are fat frank and gerrard. Plus why sell him at this moment? A club only sells its prime assets when they are dead broke as Valencia might be forced to or when they see some sort of decline or when the player simply wants to move on. He hasn’t even entered his prime yet and we are talking of selling him. Surely we are not a feeder club are we?

  74. Test says:

Ok so lets imagine that Yaya is a realistic target, which he isnt, how much do you think it would cost to bring in a player in his prime who starts every game for the best club on the planet.

Come on please, I need a laugh.

  75. choy says:

    sadly we are lazer

  76. vandejie says:

    hola

  77. choy says:

anything above 20 mill i reckon

  78. RayGooner says:

we have other options for Eduardo and Rosicky:

for Eduardo we have Vela, Bendtner or Simpson
for Rosicky we have Nasri, Diaby or Wilshere

  79. LAzer says:

    useless left winger-Diaby

  80. RayGooner says:

I think it’s bloody obvious Cesc wants to go back to Barca, if not now then next season, and whenever that happens we’ll deal with it…

  81. LAzer says:

Well we will be if we sell Cesc right now Choy. I can understand if the player insists on leaving or demands a transfer but that clearly isn’t the case so why would we bother selling if not our best then our 2nd best player at the moment. To improve the team you would like to improve each position and in his position we would not have any better replacements so why bother.

  82. choy says:

    lazer.. what about 45 mill??

  83. RayGooner says:

i must have woke up on the wrong side today guys, cause no one agrees with me, hopefully i’ll wake up on the right side another day when i come back here…

  84. Test says:

Cesc is stunting the growth of merida, our internal solution, therefore we should take anything that Barca are prepared to offer even if its only a one way ryan air ticket to an airport 2 hrs away from anything resembling a city.

  85. Rohan says:

as i said in a few years we will have merida wilshere ramesy and maybe JET. it is then that we let cesc go if both parties are adequately compensated.

  86. LAzer says:

How is it so bloody obvious Ray? Cause the press quoted two sentences of him stating the obvious after a team he personally supports won the CL. He has been denying he wants to go back for ages now, why can’t we just take his word for it for now. I am not blind to say that yeah perhaps he might want to leave one day but I think Cesc is fully committed right now to us so we should be fully committed to him rather then thinking we would be better off without him.

  87. xeeez says:

“Then another guy came up to me and said ‘Hey Theo!’ and we high-fived and he just walked off. That was great, really cool.”

    …lmao

  88. RayGooner says:

it’s not only a matter of letting him go, if he wants to go, can we stop him?

  89. LAzer says:

If anyone I think its time we sold Ade on. He does not fit into our style of play, is a greedy lump and would fetch a nice sum for improvements in other areas.

  90. xeeez says:

Wenger won’t sell Cesc this season..so no point in arguing guys :)

  91. RayGooner says:

    i hope you’re right Lazer…i really do

  92. xeeez says:

    yea Lazer..Ade should go!

  93. LAzer says:

Yeah I agree with you there Ray, but I don’t think he wants to go right now. Nothing really leads me to believe he wants to go.

  94. RayGooner says:

i would love to keep Cesc here forever, but for each year he gets better, we’ll miss him more when he do leave, does that make any sense at all?

  95. Test says:

    No ;-)

  96. RayGooner says:

i’m trying to explain what i base my thoughts on…

  97. RayGooner says:

remember it was only a vision….

  98. LAzer says:

Yeah I hope so to Ray. I see your point in that maybe we need to move some players on as we can replace them and raise money with it to improve other areas. Just Cesc is at the moment irreplaceable and does not want to go. Like you said when the time comes we can deal with it and as Rohan mentioned we may have some internal solutions ready by then.

  99. RayGooner says:

stay tuned for my next one….

  100. RayGooner says:

i told you Wilshere will be the next one to build around…

  101. LAzer says:

That’s like Wenger saying he benched Arshavin for the FA semi so the team would know they could win without him in the CL semi. And guess what? We didn’t win either.

  102. RayGooner says:

if we can keep Cesc until then, fine by me….but i’m not so sure we will, and that’s why i want another solution fast, now, ready for the next season!

  103. Test says:

We should sign Iniesta, apperantly he is Kolos cousin.

  104. RayGooner says:

i agree with you there Lazer

  105. LAzer says:

    WENGER HUNTING £12M LESCOTT

  106. RayGooner says:

honestly, what can we get in terms of new players (in positions we do need to buy in) without selling Cesc?

  107. RayGooner says:

Lescott would be nice, but £12?

  108. RayGooner says:

    don’t think we’ll get him for that…

  109. RayGooner says:

if we do keep Cesc we’ll have to have a defensive midfielder of class, and what will that cost?

  110. RayGooner says:

i think we can only hope that Wenger does his magic and find a new Flamini for £270,000….

  111. RayGooner says:

or better yet, bring Flamini back…

  112. RayGooner says:

i’m signing off now, later chaps!

  113. LAzer says:

and the report goes on to say Moyes rates him at 18 mill. haha. I think if we really have to sell to buy then all the fingers point to the sale of Ade. Lets say he goes for 20 mill, that added to whtever else we may have been planning on spending should be sufficient for Wenger to rebuild at the back. In all honesty Ray, I don’t think we need A LOT to this squad. I would take Barry though but not as our only signing.

  114. LAzer says:

    Later RayG.

  115. Rohan says:

lescott is ugly up there with the rooneys of the world….but then again keown wasn’t the best in the style stakes.

  116. Rohan says:

i’m pretty confident we’ll buy 2 established players ( barry + lescott/hangeland) and the customary teenager from some glacier in antarctica.

  117. Test says:

we have already bought three 15 year olds.

  118. A says:

Lescott just isn’t good enough! Did noone watch him yesterday?!

  119. A says:

In fact he’s everton’s 3rd best centre back, nowhere near good enough for us

  120. goonerpress says:

Would you guys take £45m for Cesc? I’d take Yaya, Henry, Bojan and Pique.

  121. goonerpress says:

Honestly though, if Barca want Cesc so badly, Wenger should ask for Messi.

  122. LAzer says:

    Bizarre story of the day-

Robin Van Persie is set to undergo an operation that could bring an end to his persistent injury problems.

Van Persie scored 20 goals for Arsenal this season but still missed several chunks of the season with muscular problems.

Consensus among Arsenal’s medical team is that the Dutchman could be aided by the removal of his wisdom teeth, and Arsene Wenger has insisted that the operations goes ahead.

Wenger has even denied Van Persie his preferred surgeon in order to make sure he gets the very best treatment.

“I fear I’ll be forced to drink porridge through a straw. My osteopaths think there may be a connection between my teeth and the muscle injuries I suffer,” Van Persie was quoted as saying in The People.

“Something like that is very difficult to prove. But if the operation makes just one percent difference it’ll be worth it.

“It could have an influence on the recovery time my body needs after an injury. Three of the four specialists I chose were rejected by the club.”

  123. goonerpress says:

If Barca say no to Messi for Cesc, it shows Cesc that they do not want him as badly as they say. If they say yes, it shows Messi that Barca rate Cesc more.

  124. A says:

cesc wouldn’t be so silly as to go to barca now, when he wouldn’t play until xavi retires or leaves!

  125. lc says:

Yes, sell Fabregas, RVP, Adebayor and Kolo(if City are still interested). Rvp won’t get any better as he can’t cope with PL defenders. Fabregas will never replace Viera;we will always talk about a midfield next year if we don’t sign a fitter player than him(too lightweight). Adebayor can’t shoot from over 10 yards and horrible passer. Kolo Toure’s volatile mend set is not helping much to concentrate when it matters most; also bad reader of the game. We should keep Gallas instead.
    Players we should bring in:
We should go for Drogba if Chelsea were to get rid of him, because he is far better footballer than Ade, or go for Tevez. Filipe Mello should replace Fabregas; he is stronger, quicker and far better technical ability than cesc; and more PL bond player. At CB, Bordeau’s tallest defender, a black gay I can’t remember his name right now, should replace Kolo.

  126. Keyser says:

You can’t remember his name but you know his sexual preference ?!

  127. incesc says:

    lc

great plan. Lets sell our best players.

    Genius

  128. A says:

diawara lc?! he was so so bad yesterday, so clumsy and gave away an obvious penalty that somehow wasn’t given.

That’s just a ridiculous post, sell vp and get in who?! cesc is one of the most intelligent footballers in the world, in terms of running the play very few could do it in the same way, and melo certainly couldn’t get near to it!! Though he could be a decent midfielder defensively, saying replace cesc with him is just ridiculous

  129. Arindam@KOL says:

    Good article from Guardian :

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2009/may/31/manchester-united-barcelona-champions-league

Love rubbing salt in the Manure cu*ts !

  130. LAzer says:

lc must have had a vision as well this morning then. I second that its quite a ridiculous post, you can’t really be serious with that can you?? I hope not.

  131. LAzer says:

Lets replace our players with people whose names we do not know. Brilliant.

  132. GUNNA_H says:

Wisdom teeth and muscle connection? wtf!?!

  133. Test says:

I like that style of management

    ————-Bloke that plays for Juve

Whats his face—-you know—–yeah that guy—-the bald guy

Think of the money saved on letters on the backs of shirts, we could replace every name with a ?

  134. incesc says:

so if madrid are buying ribery, kaka and ronaldo, maybe we should have a pop at snjeider

  135. Arindam@KOL says:

Yea lets ell them all and buy Newcastle’s first XI ; that ‘ll do the trick .

  136. Arindam@KOL says:

Yea lets sell them all and buy Newcastle’s first XI ; that ‘ll do the trick .

  137. goonerpress says:

Arindam, I’ve said that from the start. The Premier League just makes more money and is hyped by the English media. The only reason why English teams have been successful against foreign teams is because they use their strength. They play negative football and then hope to win at home. Chelsea got what they deserved when Iniesta scored to knock them out. Quality of football is much more superior in Spain. The Spanish League, in my view, is much better than ours. They have Barcelona, Real Madrid, Valencia, Sevilla, Villareal and Atletico Madrid. All of them play some lovely football. We have Arsenal, Man United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Everton, Aston Villa. Only one of those teams can play football. And thats us. The Spanish League is technically superior to the English one.

  138. Arindam@KOL says:

Naah , Sneijder’s comin to the cunts if LAdyBoy leaves.

  139. incesc says:

Barcelona bought the best player in our entire history and hes not even in the top 5 of their current players.

  140. Test says:

What were United playing when they hammered us over two legs, basketball?

  141. goonerpress says:

Why not Incesc? Hes their third top scorer ain’t he? All from the Left Wing/Forward position.

Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Eto’o, Henry are their top 5.

  142. Arindam@KOL says:

    gp ,

NO doubts about that , mate.

Remember , “shit on stick” ? Thats what 90 % of the BPL teams are..

  143. incesc says:

that article is a bit over the top.

But Man u havent been as good as people think over the last two years. They are just good at grinding out results. We were better for most of last season and liverpool have been better this season, but man u are like a machine

  144. goonerpress says:

Test that was a lucky match for them. A defensive error and a goal keeping error. We were missing two of our regular defenders. Their third goal was scored when our confidence was down in the gutters. We were also minus Arshavin.

  145. Arindam@KOL says:

Test , United got a lucky break with Gibbs slipping for the 1st goal.
Things could have been vastly different had that not happened.
And they waited for the counter after that and credit where its due , they are are much better counter-attacking side than us. We played right into their hands after that.

  146. goonerpress says:

Incesc, Man United haven’t had any serious competition. They can grind out results because they have a good squad and good back-ups. I bet with 3 great signings we would blow the Premiership away. Nobody would be able to face our football.

  148. incesc says:

they absolutely hammered us at old trafford

  149. goonerpress says:

Incesc, Gibbs slipping (one goal), Ronaldo diving and almunia messing up (two goals) a great counter attack against a team without their two main defenders (three goals). We got battered. Imagine we had Gallas, Clichy and Arshavin. Would have saved them the humiliation in Rome.

  150. Test says:

Behave goonerpress, they mullered us over 180 minutes. What about 4 days later against Chelsea at home, was that badminton?

They are World club cup winners, charity shield, league cup, league and champions league finalist. They finished 20 points ahead of us. They were one game away from doing the double double, in competitions that Arsene hasnt retained or won in his tenure.

Lets try and not act like spuds fans and at least give credit where its due.

  151. Arindam@KOL says:

“but man u are like a machine”
    machine , my ass.

Got a lucky break at Villa with the “next big thing” bailing them out.
Again against the Spu*s , with the Manc ref acting like a true fan and awarding a comical pen.
And a few that I am missing out. Could well have been a different story had the league been fair and square.

They are bullies , who can beat the the teams outside the top 4 , albeit with generous help from refs who are Manc cunts , again.

  152. Arindam@KOL says:

“They are World club cup winners”

    Good joke that.

Who did they beat , again ?

  153. Arindam@KOL says:

    Test , are you a Manc ?
I mean true blue Manc cunts shy away from referring the Charity shield as something they ‘won’.
    PLeeezzz.

  154. Test says:

They won the champions league to get into that competition Arindam, go get your Arsenal top out your drawer and look above the cannon, that space is where you put your stars, youll see there are none above our crest.

    But its a good joke.

  155. incesc says:

    lol

you are a little insane arindam

  156. Arindam@KOL says:

Test , I’ll repeat my question again , so that even you can get it :

“They are World club cup winners” – Who did they beat there ?
Which is the easier competition , the Mickey Mouse cup or that one ?

  157. Test says:

    Arin,

I will repeat my answer, in order to get there you must beat the best in Europe.

  158. A says:

lol test, “World club cup winners, charity shield, league cup”

    brilliant

We’ll we’re emirates cup champs and amsterdam tournament champs, more prestigious than any of those three!

Utd won the League, that’s all they won of note.

There are only 3 trophies that matter in the slightest, League, Champs League, and FA Cup, anything else is a complete and utter irrelevance and I literally wouldn’t think of this season as any different in terms of success whatsoever if we’d won all of them, just as I don’t consider it more successful winning the emirates cup, or the youth or ladies team winning things.

    Chelsea won the fa cup,
    Utd won the league
    Liverpool won nothing
    We won nothing

that’s all that was won that actually matters

  159. Arindam@KOL says:

    Isnt that a no-brainer ??

But to say that Manu won the quadruple and
cite the league, the mickey mouse cup , the world joke cup and the Charity shield :P , is a good joke .

  160. A says:

Test what’s the relevance of that?! Yes they won the champions league last season, and that was a great achievement.

Winning the world club championship is an irrelevance, and holds no prestige whatsoever, and is less of an achievement than winning any single Premiership game, regardless of the way you get there.

  161. Test says:

I dont think of the beer cup and the charity shield as competitions that are prestigous in any way but on the same token of talking about jokes, saying that United were “lucky” against us is also very funny.

  162. Arindam@KOL says:

Anyways , Test did you bump into LE Grove from NEwsnow ??

Back to Republic of Cuntunia , for you , my friend.

  163. goonerpress says:

Exactly A. Okay, credit is deserved but I think too many people go over board. Teams like Chelsea and Manchester United with big-name players are obviously going to destroy you when your squad has injuries and a much weaker squad than theirs. Im tell you all, all its going to take is three signings. Just three.

  164. goonerpress says:

Test, Man Utd got their fair share of luck against us. Two of their goals were because of a slip and a dive from Ronaldo. Their third goal was very good but because our spirits were low. We had been shocked. Their goal in the first leg was acceptable. So Manchester United, the best team in the world. Full strength squad, two good goals against Arsenal in 180 minutes. That too against a weak defence.

  165. Test says:

So in order to avoid talking about the gap between us and United, you pick up on the WCC and Charity shield comment making out that i said they won the quadrupple. Then you insult me.

    LOL

As I said instead of acting like spurs fans we should at least give credit where its due.

    “They we lucky”

They stuffed us over two legs and finished 20 pts ahead of us in the league. Lets not kid ourselves by making out it was by some lesser brand of football – the original point of this conversation.

  166. A says:

gp over the course of the season i’d say 2 signings, but in terms of destroying them in any one game we could do it without signing anyone if the squad was fit! We beat them earlier in the season with a much weaker squad than we will have without injuries

Yeah with utd – they won the league, which is a good achievement, but that’s all they won. They just beat the rest in england, but they were far from dominant overall

  167. goonerpress says:

    slip from Gibbs*

  168. Arindam@KOL says:

Test , go back to your post at 12:56 ; and see how that contradicts your post at 13:13.

  169. lc says:

I am not questioning Cesc skill, but I am saying that he is not the right player for the position he is playing with regard to the PL physical requirement; as an example, remember Babel’s Kop fourth goal how he ambarrassed Cesc in CL last season. Arsenal are currently the only club that are using a lightweight player in his position. I don’t think the results we are getting are that much of a surprise.

  170. Arindam@KOL says:

    Anyways , back in 3 hrs , Gooners !

  171. incesc says:

    oi

    leave test alone.

hes argument is valid, man u werent lucky, they won quite easily against us. They are a great side who has won the premier league three years running as well as picking up a european cup.

sorry if its hard to take…

  172. A says:

The difference between the two sides in the champs league two legs was massively exagerated and far from representative of the actual situation. We made individual mistakes, and our gameplan was completely fucked up from very early in both legs, and we couldn’t recover.

Just as Utd’s was in the final, and they never stood a chance after they conceded. Big games can go like that always, and they aren’t representative of how good the actual teams are.

They didn’t just beat us because they were lucky, but it’s just as stupid to say that they beat us in that way, therefore they’re MILES better than us.

  173. goonerpress says:

Test, its people like you who big up teams like Manchester United and leagues like the EPL. Compare the strength of the other three teams to ours. Once again, Manchester United has and had no real competition. Liverpool done well but they made too many mistakes to win the league. We suffer from too many injuries, they don’t suffer as much. They get many decisions from the ref, we don’t. They have a manager who sweet talks the FA. We don’t. Okay they won a lot. Fair enough, congratulations to them. But they are not a pure football club, they cannot play football. We proved that against them in the League, twice. Barcelona fucked them over because they were over confident at the fact that ‘oh we are from the EPL and we are better than foreign sides’. Well fuck you motherfuckers, football won on the day! They were shocked!

  174. goonerpress says:

Yes they were MILES better than us. Because their players are MILES stronger, fitter and better than ours.

  175. incesc says:

I agree one game doesnt make a team miles better than another. Dominating the premierleague for 3 seasons does tho.

i just hope we are better next season

  176. A says:

Last season they dominated incesc, this season they won it, but far from dominated it, regardless of what the press make out. It was much tighter this season without considering us. Utd only won one thing, Chelsea only won one thing, and Liverpool were probably better than Chelsea overall, and very nearly won the title, which would have meant Utd winning nothing!

  177. Stu says:

    Good nafternoon all….whats the sca?

Its so fucking hot here and my hayfever is a bastard because i aint got any tablets…fucking weather!

  178. Test says:

    GP -

You dont know me or my beliefs, they are alot closer to yours than you think. I do think that your judgement on the merits of our strengths is off the mark:

Injuries, every club has injuries. Chelsea who were double figures above us had Cole out for the year Essien out for 3 months Drogba out for the same Carvalho out for the same, I dont hear excuses made about injuries from them.

Refs: We get alot of decisions from refs against smaller teams, its the way of the world and every time we have won a league its the same there is a little bit of luck attached as with other teams.

When you say we proved that against them twice in the league, you are including a game they needed to get a point to win the league and did so. Its a bit like having the discipline to see it out, the opposite of winning 4-3 at Anfield with 30 seconds on the clock and whilst the opposition are in your box your midfield is on the edge of it waiting to break, 4-4.

As I said I also, like you, wanted Barca to win. I do think that United play football though, they are not Wimbledon reincarnate.

  179. incesc says:

but united did win the title and have done for 3 years. Thats domination and at a time when the league is harder than ever.

Anyway i dont want to argue the case for man u anymore. They are a great team tho, and i hope we fix up and beat them next season

  180. Stu says:

This has gotta be a piss take!

  181. Test says:

    And GP -

It isnt people like me that “big up” the epl! ;-)

Laliga is alot better in terms of player quality and crap like stokes long throw would be laughed at there.

  182. A says:

    Test

Noone had the injuries we had, we had two of our best players not kick a ball in the league all season.

After that I’d say you could compare, but none else had that.

AFTER that we had our best defender out for the business end of the season, our captain and best midfielder out for the middle part, not to mention all the others.

All teams had injuries, and all teams were weaker when they did have those injuries –

when Utd had vidic and/or ferdinand for the period after the liverpool game they were shocking,

liverpool without gerrard/torres aren’t the same team,

chelsea are a completely different team and much much stronger since essien returned.

It just so happened in terms of the cup competitions that we were weakest at the business end of the season, whereas all the others had gotten over their serious problems and had near full squads to choose from

  183. A says:

incesc they’re a good team that’s vastly overrated, not a great team. IMO this season there wasn’t a single great team in the premiership, and if there had been then they would have absolutely walked the league.

  184. zorr0 says:

Afternoon all! Ma heed is proper caning me!

Glad to see Lovedup found out about Bareta, I vaguely remember him, short stocky dark haired cop!

So, what’s with the manc love in going on!

  185. Lovedup Loner says:

    Afternooooon

Syeve Stammers used to write for the Evening Standard (might still do so) he’s a Gooner, normally has an idea whats goin on. Although the Cesc to Barca story is probably bullshite…

  186. Lovedup Loner says:

    Haha! Hey zorro!

    A; I concur there fella.

  187. Stu says:

Cesc leaving better be a bullshit story. He cant leave until either Ramsey or Merida are ready to take over.

  188. reggie57 says:

Why is everyone digging out Test fact is the mancs finished 18 points in front of us, knocked us out of the CL 4-1 on agregate and still people say we was unlucky yeah right!

  189. Lovedup Loner says:

As well as the injuries, we also had the shit goin on with Gallas and almost every other player! We also had a completely dissinterested Ade and basically were carrying a few players till they found their feet, which in Song’s case was till about December…

We have Arshy now, with Rosicky and Eduardo ready for pre-season… We need 2 signings, possibly 3 if Ade goes, IMO.

  190. Stu says:

We were unlucky. Unlucky because everyone got injured at the wrong time and all at once. Gallas and Clichy being injured ruined any chance we had of progressing in the cups.

  191. Lovedup Loner says:

Stu; Almunia wouldnt have run out of his area the way Fabianski did in the FA Cup either…Shit, he;s glued to his goal line sometimes…

  192. zorr0 says:

Lovedup, how tings? I believe I was a bit drunk last night!

40 mill for Cesc! Hmm, LJW in the middle? lol

  193. Stu says:

All we need is defensive signings and for everyone to be fit. And maybe sign a defensive coach and someone to get to the bottom of the injuries. It cant be a coincidence that we have had so many injuries.

  194. goonerpress says:

    Test

    Injuries

Chelsea – Cole out – Bridge/Bosingwa as replacements
Arsenal – Clichy out – Gibbs/Silvestre as replacements

Chelsea – Essien out – Ballack/Mikel/Deco as replacements
Arsenal – Fabregas out – Denilson/Song/Diaby as replacements

Chelsea – Drogba out – Anelka(top scorer at the time)/Kalou replacements
Arsenal – Eduardo and Adebayor out – Bendtner as replacement

Chelsea – Carvalho out – Ivanovic/Alex as replacements
Arsenal – Gallas out – Djourou/Silvestre as replacements

    Refs

Compare the luck United have with refs with the luck we have with refs. How many penalties are United awarded? How many are we awarded? How many times has Vidic got away with dirty tackles? How many times do our defenders have to think twice about making tackles because the ref will fuck them over, and then concede a goal? How many minutes of extra time do United get, out of the blue?

What we proved against them twice in the league

First game we screwed them over. Second game, they just needed a point to win the league so they took it easy. How do you know that? Thats what the media say so thats what United went along with. We outclassed them no matter what. Just lacked the finishing. What has the Liverpool draw got to do with us outclassing Man Utd twice?

Yes United play football, but most of their play is counter attack against weaker teams in the Premiership. Even Torres said that the defenders in England are slower than those in Spain. Maybe thats the reason he has been scoring more in England. His fast play with Gerrard. Man United cannot play football against teams who can play football though. Yes they are better than the likes of Everton, Wigan etc etc etc. But not teams like Barcelona, Arsenal. Yes they beat us in the UCL. But they had luck and they faced a poor defence.

A good defence gives an attacking team more confidence to attack. Just ask Manchester United.

  195. Stu says:

Lovedup, i dont remember the semi exactly but Fabianski only came just outside the box because Silvestre just gave up. He had no other choice than to try force drogshits hand and hope he made a mistake.

  196. zorr0 says:

With Manuel, Gallas and Clichy we would have won the FA semi and performed a lot better in the ECL semi too.

  197. redbearer says:

Good afters gents… basically Man U & the Chavs have recently physically build their teams around powerhouse players which eventually will bring success in the Premiership.. Scousepool & ourselves try to play attractive one touch attacking football based around movement off the ball. Barcelona admittedly showed the Mancs a masterclass on wednesday and I was also very impressed on how their midfield would double up (sometimes even treble up) on a player when they lost possession! Fitness & stamina, technique & discipline… they are a fantastically well drilled team and richly deserved to play Man U off the park.. it now appears that the benchmark has been established for other footballing teams to follow and I’m sure that we can be there or there abouts with a few more quality additions signed during the summer, and one Gareth Barry would do a certain job just fine!

  198. Lovedup Loner says:

Stu; Seriously fella, Fabianski ran out when he didnt have to, it was a huge mistake, if he had stayed back Drogba wouldve had to try and score with the keeper actually in goal, not simply pass the ball into an empty net! He was erratic all game, oh and Eboue made a massive fuck up for their equaliser too!

zorro; You were drunk??? Hahaha! Joking, you and me both mate.

  199. A says:

Loner it wasn’t completely fabianski’s fault, and I wouldn’t say he was erratic all game, though the commentators certainly tried to make it seem like that.

Fabianski started coming to close down the angle, but he probably would have stayed in his area, but as he was advancing silvestre just gave up and stopped running, so fabianski kept coming all the way out. Errors by both of them, but the blame on Fabianski was exagerated to an extent imo

  200. Mayank says:

the fact that we went21 games unbeaten in the second half showed that we do have the quality to match united..the one match we lost against chelsea was because of the CL s/f..it happens to every team man u lost to liverpool then lost to fulham a teamthey’d beaten 3-0 a few days ago..the margins in the PL are very very thin..if you have key injuries and low confidence you’re going to suffer..there is a difference b/w the 2 teams though..that’s they can win important matches even when they’re out of form and we can’t..but a strong run in the beginning of next season can get the confidence back up high..also if rosicky arsh stay fit we also have a few very experienced players who can make sure we reach the finish line..

  201. Mayank says:

one thing about barca though..they might be a smallish team but in xavi and iniesta they have 2 players middle of the park who think its a crime to give up the ball..if we can instate the same drive in our MFs we’ll be a much better team for it..

  202. A says:

redbearer liverpool don’t try and play attractive football in the slightest?! They’re more similar to chelsea imo, both teams are very organised and pretty negative in most big games.

Both Utd and ourselves are more offensive, but in different ways, we’re a small technical team based on intelligence, passing and moving, and ball retention,

utd are a big powerful and direct team, based on being very strong and organised at the back, and constantly driving at the opposition battering them into submission.

  203. Lovedup Loner says:

A; Yeah, I know the setanta twats, especially that odious git Burley were goin OTT with their comments about Fabianski, but he made at least 3 major errors, Gibbs cleared off the line due to one of em after about 5 mins… I still think he was hugely at fault for Drogba’s goal too, as for Silvestre? I expect him to be shite.

  204. Stu says:

Thats not just the midfielders Mayank. Guardiola has the whole front line chasing the ball when they dont have it.

I heard that in pre season training Messi wasnt chasing to get the ball back and Guardiola stopped the match or training or whatever it was just to fuck Messi out of it. He wants his whole team working their bollocks off. We dont have anyone like that since Flamini left.

  205. Lovedup Loner says:

A keeper should never run out of his goal the way Fabianski did unless he’s 100% sure he’s gonna get the ball, or take out the player!

  206. Stu says:

ON friday shitanta or sky..whichever…showed replays of chelseas run to the final and after lampard hoofed the ball over the top silvestre gave up straight away. Stopped running completely the cunt! I would rather Song had played than Silvestre. Every fucking time!

  207. Mayank says:

in the invincibles we had viera who’s a once in a decade player who’d do the job of 2 CM..there’s a reason that after he left pires and ljunberg got injured more..since we can’t make a viera appear out of thin air 2-3 MF have to have the flamini mentality and our strikers need to at least hassle upfront..i think rosicky fab nasri all keep the ball pretty well but do tend to switch off in some games..rosicky less so..

  208. A says:

Yeah I agree loner, but the only reason he decided to come out was because of silvestre, so although it was an error the blame was shared imo.

  209. goonerpress says:

The reason Pires and co got injured less when Vieira was around because Vieira protected the players. Opposition players knew that if they touched an Arsenal player, Vieira would chew their balls off. Same thing United had in Keane. We ain’t got that sort of player anymore.

  210. redbearer says:

On other matters, imo Theo has made a bold move to play for the U21′s as well as the England 1st team albeit AW isn’t too keen but imo these games will give him further experience and after all he missed 3 months last season with his shoulder injury so he must feel like he’s only played half a season!
I’m also not sure about AW playing out on the wing… now I know that Henry was used in a similar role when AW was coaching at Monaco but I would really like to see Walcott play up front and off the shoulder of the last defender next season.. he has the pace and the finish to do well alongside a target man like Bendtner… he’s no a natural winger and imo is wasted in that position + the boy needs to come back from these England camps all man’d up!

  211. Stu says:

Rosicky is brilliant at almost everything except playing

  212. incesc says:

so if vieira was around would rvp not need to get his wisdom teeth taken out?? is that what you are saying gp??

  213. Lovedup Loner says:

Mayank; Everu player track back and hassle opponents when not in possesion. But I think in nasri, we have not only a very talented player, but a very committed and hard working one. Nasri, for me, was our player of the season. He was asked to play in a more defensive minded central midfield role, as well as wide left and right. The fella’s class.

  214. Stu says:

Nasri is our own version of Nedved.

  215. incesc says:

yeah walcott is too nice. We need toughen him up.

    but how.

  216. goonerpress says:

Spot on redbearer. Either he should be played as a CF in a 442, or as a RF (Messi Style) in a 433.

  217. incesc says:

yeah nasri is only going to get better and better, and then fuck off to madrid, barce or milan.

  218. Lovedup Loner says:

Thats the way to go incesc! Nice and positive!

  219. Stu says:

I think Nasri will be here for a long while. Late 20s if we are lucky.

  220. nishanth says:

We need to be a lot more direct in our attack.Sometimes i wonder whether these players actually want to score. We keep saying united and chelsea get lucky because they score deflected goals and goals thanks to keeper fumbling. But the fact is that they get that luck beacuse they attempt shots on goal.None of our players attempt from far out.Arshavin is probably the only exception. And should attack the opponents right from the beginning and not wait till the 60th minute mark

  221. incesc says:

    lol

no i do think nasri is going to be a fantastic player.

  222. Mayank says:

yup he’s special..he’ll be much better next season..he’s a tad slow with the 1-2s..

  223. incesc says:

    nishanth

its not shots on goal and attacking that is our problem. Its defending and physical presence that we need to work on.

  224. goonerpress says:

incesc, I don’t know if you mean that as a joke or if you are being serious.

That is a different type of injury. Unless someone booted RVP in the face, then Vieira would have a say about it.

  225. incesc says:

    nasri fabregas barry arshavin

    walcott/eduardo rvp

there is a lot of goals there…

  226. Stu says:

Nish, we have just as many shots as all the top teams…if not more.
Its just that our midfielders prefer keep possession and to play their way into the box rather than hit a long range hoper and lose the ball.

  227. reggie57 says:

Nasri is the man for all seasons!!

  228. redbearer says:

In saying this though.. if Theo plays upfront there will be a void left on the right wing… since Pleb went we seem to miss a right winger who can accurately cross the ball!
Btw I also hear that Bentley might be going cheap lol :D

  229. incesc says:

yeah sorry i was just messing.

  230. Lovedup Loner says:

nish; We scored as many as United last season fella. Its the defence and defensive instincts that need to be sorted, IMO. We need to be a bit more physical against certain teams too.

  231. reggie57 says:

A fit proven goalscorer would solve the problem genius arnt i

  232. nishanth says:

I agree incesc.Defense is the main problem. But we end up drawing too many matches that we should be winning. With our attacking ability we should be scoring a lot more goals and should kill the game off early instead of sitting back and just passing it around.

  233. goonerpress says:

Sorry for what incesc mate? I just thought for a second that you were being serious. lol

  234. reggie57 says:

we need some one with a bit of grit like Barretta and Fred the cockatoo!!

  235. nishanth says:

Arshavin has obviously made a difference regarding that.28 points collected from the 12 matches that he played in.Have not lost a match in which he has started

  236. Lovedup Loner says:

Reggie Reg; Yeah, definitely mate! Hahaha!

  237. nishanth says:

So steve Mcmanaman says that hidding has made everyone like chelsea again.WTF!!!

  238. reggie57 says:

Too right LL but leave Sammy to the singing haha

  239. Lovedup Loner says:

Well, unless we get fucked up again with injuries, next should see us starting with; Rosicky, Arshy, Cesc, Nasri and Eduardo… There’s gotta be a few goals in there… Hopefully Cesc will have his shooting boots on like the 2007/8 season…

  240. reggie57 says:

Hows Zorro of the pounding head?

  241. incesc says:

I wonder if we will have to endure a transfer saga as long as the nasri and arshavin ones this summer.

  242. nishanth says:

Was checking out some of eduardo’s goals for us.Against everton how he alone changed the game.Arshavin would clearly enjoy playing with eduardo

  243. goonerpress says:

If we get Alonso, and a CB, we should line up like this:

    ———-Almunia———–
    -Sagna–CB–Gallas–Clichy–
    —–Alonso—-Fabregas—–
    -VPersie—Nasri—Arshavin-
    ———-Eduardo———–

  244. incesc says:

that everton game is my best memory of eduardo. He was coming on nicely, but he wasnt exactly a world beater when he got injured.

  245. goonerpress says:

    Subs

    Fabianski
    Toure
    Song
    Rosicky
    Walcott
    Vela
    Bendtner

  246. reggie57 says:

GP I dont think Alonso is going to come to us hes nailed on for RM?

  247. nishanth says:

He is never going get past his man and score goals like henry did.But he is the best finisher in the club.Along with torres the best in the premier league also

  248. kelsey says:

    afternoon Stu and all.

    Stu said last night

And as for the Nazis, the idea was right in that they wanted a greater world. Hitler was just a cunt the way he went about it. A right fucking cunt!

that doesnt really look like a question does it. Let me rephrase- Who/what are the BNP?

No i live across the channel.
    Still tho…im intrigued now…..slightly. Who/what is BNP?

Take a tip from an older blogger, don’t go down that road if you meant it or not, looks things up,especially political, before you get involved again.

I mean that with the best intentions, for this is a football blog in principle.

  249. Stu says:

Torres is nowhere near Eduardo at finishing. Eduardo is the coolest cat around!

  250. goonerpress says:

Okay then Reggie. If Alonso goes to RM, then we can get Sneijder or VDV from them.

  251. Stu says:

Kelsey, i’ll remember to think before i type from now on.

  252. nishanth says:

Ballack has said it going to be ancelloti most probably.Wonder if this might lead to players leaving milan.Ancelloti is going to be another version of scolari

  253. incesc says:

ancelloti is a nutter, been reading stuff from his book in the paper, and he is insane.

  254. Lovedup Loner says:

Well, IF Alonso is a potential target, then hopefully AW will have other options if the fella fooks off to Madrid. And hopefully, we won’t have to wait till August 31st for it to happen either!

  255. incesc says:

Wonder who man city are gonna buy this summer, or trry to buy

  256. Lovedup Loner says:

Ancelotti has won less than WEnger in the last 8 seasons!

  257. Lovedup Loner says:

incesc; Roque Santa Cruz and Ronaldinho!

  258. nishanth says:

They will have to stick to the bellamy type players. They havn’t even qualified for the europa league.

  259. nishanth says:

1 title with milan in 8 seasons.Thats pathetic actually. And he has followed the opposite of wenger;s project.Roman wants just beacuse of those 2 UCL titles.

  260. goonerpress says:

I really really want Alonso at Arsenal. Imagine him in an Arsenal shirt, right next to Cesc in the midfield. Pulling the strings in our play together and causing havoc for defences. Would be like watching two lesbians kissing, naked. But obviously without any sexual nature involved.

  261. incesc says:

    lol gp

did you really just refer to cesc and alonso as 2 lesbians kissing??

  262. Gooner_b11 says:

nishanth….i feel your pain about the team tho, i’ve said before this game we all know and love is about 2things putting the ball in the back of the net as efficiently as possible and keeping the ball out of the other end by reducing the risk. and anything in between is just entertainment or the lack of it in some cases…i mean who couldv’e squandered as many chances as we did against chelsea 1st 20mins? THAT’S A LACK OF EFFICIENCY IN FINISHING (no matter how we compair ourselves to manchester utd for goals scored) and what better example at the the other end than chelsea having 2shots and scoring two goals…THAT’S OUR HOUSE BEING BUILT ON SAND, you can’t make a family on that in any sence of the word lol

  263. Lovedup Loner says:

GP; So, Madrid have gone from Kaka, Ronaldo, Cesc and ended up with Xabi? I wouldnt even say thats a done deal, just the Madrid based tabloids doin REal’s dirty work for em… When the Villareal manager is unveiled, they will say all along, he was their only choice coz no one ever turns down Madrid…

  264. Gooner_b11 says:

actuslly Lovedup Loner, you’ll find that xabi alonso was always on that list…..since florentino perez was known to be coming back his actual promise list is kaka, cesc and xabi alonso i would guess the deal for xabi is now done, give up the dream! we shoulda got him last summer, the ronaldo deal is in place buy the previous regime at a premium price of 70m+ but perez doesn’t want to pay it.

  265. zorr0 says:

Alright Reggie! Trying to summon up the enthusiasm to get the barbecue fired up, but my mouth is drier than Gandhi’s flip flop and I keep wanting to hurl!

  266. incesc says:

i hope ronaldo fucks off to spain and alonso. that would make things easier for us next season.

  267. Lovedup Loner says:

    Gooner b11;

You nay be right, then again, the amount of bullshit that Real pipe thru there media mouth pieces is unbelievable… Who ever they end up buying, they will make it look as if no one has gotten away. Like I said, when Pelligrinni is unveiled as their new coach, there will be no mention of the managers who turned em down!

  268. Gooner_b11 says:

oh yeah course but that’s life…..even the f.a do that, no1 wants the world to know they had to get their 2nd or 3rd choice player…..i would have you look at our team ask you, how many of those players do you think are 1st choice signings? other than arshavin, roscky, sagna, hleb over the years the rest are cheap pickings and 2nd or 3rd choice signings

if we can’t get hangerland in this summer…you’ll probably see a 2nd choice centreback in (i really hope it’s not lescott)

  269. Lovedup Loner says:

True, just dont think there’s many that use the media to unsettle players/managers the way that Real do. The lazy hacks over here, always pick up their stories based on pure bullshit from Spain… I mean, spanish hacks will always ask a player from other clubs, if they like Barca/Real and/or would they like to play for them… When the player says something like; “Well, Real/Barca are a great club, any player would be happy playing there…” Next day, its ‘Cesc/Ade/Xabi/Rory Delap wants Madrid Move’ In the papers!

You say how many were 1st choice options for Arsenal? I think they all probably are, thats the problem…If Wenger doesnt get his 1st choice, we dont any other player in!

  270. Lovedup Loner says:

Apart from Silvestre. No way was he 1st choice!

  271. Stu says:

You know whats an awful task.

Having to wash the dog. He looked terrified the whole time.

  272. Stu says:

LL Are you off your rocker!!?? Silvestre was the big signing last summer. No way he was anything other than 1st choice.

  273. zorr0 says:

Stu, trying to strike a match on a wet bar of soap, that’s pretty awful!

  274. Stu says:

Thats not possible Zorr0. Not Possible!

  275. incesc says:

i hope to god silvestre goes. PLease please please arsene sell the cunt.

  276. Stu says:

    And Ade too incesc.

Someone on here said to me that Silvestre was brought in because he was an amazing trainer. Think it was A.
If thats true then fuck it….nothing is right in the world.

  277. reggie57 says:

Dont worry Zorro neck a few beers and everything will fall into place.

  278. Lovedup Loner says:

Silvestre to PSG, we sign Sakho from them.
Ade to Milan, we sign Hangeland and Barry/Alonso/some other dude…

  279. incesc says:

maybe he meant silvestre wears amazing trainers.

  280. incesc says:

its still hard to take that our top scorer in the league only managed 11 goals. Thats Pretty dire

  281. Stu says:

    Hangeland, Alonso anf Denisov. Simples!

  282. Stu says:

Yeah incesc but the goals were shared amoung 3 strikers rather and 1 getting all of them.

  283. Lovedup Loner says:

Stu; Would I be correct in assuming Denisov plays in Germany?

  284. Stu says:

What makes you think that Lovedup?

  285. Stu says:

If I were to suggest someone from Germany it would be Rolfes, Gentner, Westermann…

  286. incesc says:

davies from bolton and darren bent scored more goals than van persie, ade and bendtner

  287. Lovedup Loner says:

Yeah, we dont over rely on 1 striker any more, the goals are shared around. Next season, they could well be shared around even more with Arshy, Rosicky, Eduardo, nasri, Cesc, Theo, Bendy, RvP gettin em… Well, thats how it pans out in my head…

  288. incesc says:

arshavin should get 15 next season i reckon, more if he plays up front

  289. redbearer says:

Sign up Barry and the line up could look like this…

    Almunia GK
    Sagna RB
    Clichy LB
    Toure CB
    Song CB
    Barry DM
    Walcott RW
    Nasri LW
    Arshavin AM
    Eduardo RF
    Van Persie LF

Subs: Gallas, Wilshire, Bendtner, Fabianski, Fabregas, Rosicky.

Agree get rid of Silvestre… did Man U sell him on just to fook us up?!

  290. Stu says:

If Silvestre was any good at all…i mean any bit good, they wouldnt have sold him to us..especially not for as little as 750k or whatever he cost.

  291. redbearer says:

LL.. agree Sakho is a prospect… would make best sense to swap with Silvestre if poss!

  292. Stu says:

If we sign Barry we would finish 5th.

  293. Lovedup Loner says:

Gallas and cesc on the bench???

  294. incesc says:

eeverton scored the same amount of goals at home as us this season. and they played some of the season without a striker in the team. Man city scored 10 more than us. I know i saaid earlier we need to concentrate on buying midfielders and defenders but there is sriker problems too.

  295. Lovedup Loner says:

incesc; We did have a striker problem. His name is Adebayor!

  296. redbearer says:

Sell Adebayor to Milan… he doesn’t seem focused any more!

  297. redbearer says:

Gallas is emotionally retarded and allegedly Cesc now what’s a move to Barca… unless it’s just garbage paper talk!?

  298. redbearer says:

Cesc now wants to move or does he?!

  299. incesc says:

gallas is a winner. More so than a lot of our players

  300. incesc says:

dont worry cesc aint going anywhere yet

  301. Stu says:

I know some of ye like him but i think we should adress the keeper issue too because i just dont think Almunia is good enough and Fabianski showed he isnt ready ti take over yet.
I say get someone in like we did with Lehmann. Some class keeper nearing the end.

  302. redbearer says:

Green has been linked… well imo he’s better than that clown called Gomes!

  303. Stu says:

Gomes is a great keeper considering he only became a goalie at 19. Bit thick for doing that really.

  304. Lovedup Loner says:

Stu; Jaaskelinen from Bolton then? We couldve had him on a free last summer…

  305. redbearer says:

Ok Stu.. who would you put on your GK shopping list?

  306. Lovedup Loner says:

I think Almunia has shown he is good enough, IMO. He really impressed, bar a couple of mistakes. No keeper goes thru a season with out making errors…

Almunia is better than a fair few goalies in the prem. Van DEr Sar included. Thing is, I dont think there are too many quality keepers about, anyway, IMO.

  307. redbearer says:

Actually prefer Almunia much more than Fabianski… although I thought he should have got a hand to Ronaldo’s 40 yard freekick.. live & learn eh!

  308. incesc says:

would have liked shay given, he always played sick vs us.

almunia is ok in my eyes tho. Better than green.

  309. redbearer says:

Yep missed out on Given… then again Man City will always pay over the odds!

  310. Stu says:

I would have Frank Rost of Hanburg i think. He is 35, his manager (fat Jol) jus left and they finished about 4th. He would do well until Fabianski is ready.

Other than him im sure there are keepers elsewhere that are better than Almunia. Almunia only played last season because Lehmann fucked up twice and was dropped for the season. If Al was treated the same he would be dropped for a few seasons. Not a top keeper imo.

  311. nishanth says:

fuck..nedved has retired. What an amazing player. How i wish he played for arsenal.

  312. Stu says:

Given is a great keeper but only looks so good because of the defences in front of him. Irelands, Newcastles and now Citys defences are absloutely shite.

He faces a good 15 shots on average every game. Who wouldnt look good with all those saves to make. For all the saves he makes he always concedes too.

  313. Stu says:

Thats why they bought Diego Nish. And apparently they are after Leto too. The liverpool player on loan.

  314. incesc says:

Those people saying walcott should play upfront heres an interesting stat.

Walcott got the same amount of premier league goals as silvestre last season but played more games.

2 goals in 16 starts is crap

diaby scored 1 more goal and made the same amounts of starts and even eboue outscored walcott

  315. nishanth says:

You should watch him.He still runs more than anyone else in that team.Inspirational player

  316. Lovedup Loner says:

Yeah, Almunia shouldve got to that effin Cronnie freekick! BUT, he has been far better than I ever thought he would be. He has made outstanding saves and been very consistent. The 1st leg v manU, the spuds away game and loads more.

Almunia, I guess will always be perceived as not very good in some people’s eyes, just like how Song, bendy and Theo get slated…

  317. nishanth says:

any1 watching french open?Nadal is losing

  318. nishanth says:

well actually he is not retiring. He is planning to leave juve.Strange decision

  319. incesc says:

almunia has made massive improvements which is good, and his best years are still ahead of him. When he first came into the team his decision making was rubbish.

I wish he would be more commanding on crosses and corners tho, but his reflexs are very good

  320. Stu says:

Lovedup, i actually liked Almunia last season but for whatever reason that changed after this season. Cant explain why…i’ve just stopped liking him.

As for the others- you know i rate Bendtner, Song a lot less so and Theo is …meh.

  321. redbearer says:

GK is a key position… even Capello in his club management days used to favour big commanding keepers.. Schmeichel was an awesome signing for the Mancs! A fearless GK with good handling and top reflexes always get my vote but there are so few who are the complete package.. oh and sound concentration / judgement is either a natural instinct or the difference between being a good keeper or a sh*te one!

  322. nishanth says:

I am not that worried about gk department. As long as we get a DM and a CB i will be more than happy

  323. Lovedup Loner says:

Nish; Nedved was one of my fave players when I used to watch Serie A on C4 on a sunday. Well, him and veron!

As for Theo, I think either a switch in position or a change of formation will sort him out…

  324. nishanth says:

I remember when juve got relegated there were rumours about nedved joining spuds.I was hoping that he won’t join.Obviously he was smart enough not to join them

  325. nishanth says:

We also a need a utility player. A proper one.Not like diaby who would fuck up everywhere he plays.Flamini was a good one

  326. redbearer says:

Ok well if we could sign up Barry and Sakho.. my belief in the team would be immense!

  327. Ja_Gunner says:

Guys it seems we probably will keep Ade because Wneger has said that he let players leave to easily in the past…so therefore he will try to hold unto players more.

SO if he stays..then I think we should play 2 formations. The Barca 4-3-3 and 4-3-1-2

    Barca 4-3-3

    ……………….Al…………………

    Sag………Kolo/New….Gal/New……Clichy

    …………….Song/New/Den……………

    …….Cesc………………..Rosicky/Nas…

    ….Walcott/RVP……Ade/Eddy…..Arsh/BEnd…..

When Bendter played on the left against Roma he did a pretty good job got into scoring postions but did not finish.

When Ade goes to the ACN then Vela comes more into the rotation on the left..with Bend or Eddy in the centre.

We could also play 4-3-1-2 With Arsh in the hole behind 2 forwards….especially against teams that park the bus.

    ……………….Al…………………

    Sag………Kolo/New….Gal/New……Clichy

    …….Cesc….Song/New/Den…Rosik/Nas……

    ………………Arshavin/Diaby…………..

    …………Theo/Ade/Eddy…….RVP/Bend…….

We really have 7 forwards…so there are many options but I dont know if we can keep all of them happy.

  328. ethangunner says:

It’s a stupid game, for stupid people.. in fact, the more clevererer you is, the lower you finish…

ill go along with that :)
however giving up 5 games into the season
didnt do wonders for me either :)

  329. Ja_Gunner says:

I just realised that Fiorentina missed out on Champions league….Genoa sealed the 4th spot today….therefore..should we go for Felipe Melo…..I doubt Wneger will go for him because he will kill Song and Denilson….he will probably go for Barry since Barry probably wont hold them back for too long.

  330. Lovedup Loner says:

    Ja G;

I think if a decent offer comes in, Ade will be gone, IMO.

  331. Test says:

Fiorintina are in the champions league as their head to head is better than genoa.

  332. nishanth says:

If milan were 4th we wouldn’t have faced them.I was hoping they would lose today

  333. Stu says:

Didnt Genoa just come up this season. Like Hoffenheim just better.

  334. Stu says:

    Who are Barca playing later?

  335. Test says:

No genoa were about last year too.

  336. redbearer says:

Good point Nish.. isn’t it a luck dip scenario in the ECL in which we might just draw the likes of Milan?!

  337. Lovedup Loner says:

Coz of the changes in the CL qualifiers draw, we really need to have the transfers comleted in good time… Lets hope, anyways.

  338. Ja_Gunner says:

Oh ok so its Fiorentina then.

Stu Barca already played yesterday..they drew 1-1 with deportivo….Etoo scored his 30th league goal, still could not upstage forlan as he has 32.

Anyway I think it shows that La Liga is not as weak as we think…..in England it is only the top 4 that are strong….Manure played a reserve team and beat Hull with ease…we have used the kids and beaten PL teams such as WIgan 3-0.

But look at La liga…after rapping up the title Barca played their reserves mostly but they could not win a game…they lost 2-1 to Mallorca..1-0 to Osasuna(relegation troubled team) and drew 1-1 with Depor…..their reserves could not win a game lol…and the final day was not that weak.

They ended up with 87 points which is record in La liga..the previous record was 85 by Real and before that 84 by Ronaldinho’s Barca…so therefore La liga is generally won with only 70+ points….so overall their league us much more balanced than the PL…the PL is top four-six then absolute crap after that.

  339. zorr0 says:

Nadal out having won the last 4 years!

Soderling was absolutely quality and Nadal a bit flat.

  340. Mayank says:

its mostly because very few teams in the EPL are really bothered about playing football…so even if man u or chelsea have an off day the other teams don’t capitalise and lose 1-0 or something..in the SPL if a barca or real fail to turn up they are normally beaten or at least drawn against..its about footballing priorities..there’s a reason why spain are the best in europe..

  341. Mayank says:

i was hoping that fedrer beats him in the final..roger should win it and complete his trophy shelf..

  342. redbearer says:

Well here’s hoping that we whip the likes of Hull, Stoke, Burnley, Bolton, Blackburn, Birmingham, Wolves & Co next season… they are guaranteed to put 11 men behind the ball and play negative route one football.. we will need to be much more clinical and just finish off these fookers before they can even blink!

  343. Mayank says:

i meant la liga not scottish prem league!
btw these are the avg goals per match for the leagues..
    not sure about the source..anyway..
    PREM = 2.49
    SERIE A = 2.52
    LA LIGA = 2.93
    BUNDESLIGA= 2.87
    FRANCE= 2.16

  344. Kevin says:

OMG i just realised NADAL is OUT. I don’t no what to think.

  345. Stu says:

Be happy Kevin. Its about time he lost.

  346. The_Arshavin_Show says:

    i gve up banging Ade’s mom :)

  347. Kevin says:

I no no stu. But i would of thought it would be another federrer nadal epic. With the former coming out the victor. Im not going to lie i wanted nadal to loose, but in the final.

  348. The_Arshavin_Show says:

    remember me…Adebayor Papa

I finally left the old boy alone

  349. nishanth says:

Song with nadal’s athletism would be a good player

  350. The_Arshavin_Show says:

    ok..

so oficially here are some of the funniest Arshavin videos

  351. Mayank says:

bendtner with fedrer’s calmness would be good..

  353. redbearer says:

Great stats Mayank… it just goes to show that the Prem is not all that and the Spanish are starting to excel.. even the Italian league appears more opposing!
Is our league being governed correctly? Does the FA favour the likes of the Mancs & the Chavs because their bullyboy tactics / impending influence confronts a gutless organisation which now appears to be time barred! And what a about goal line technology? I hate to say it put the Chavs had a goal unfairly disallowed yesterday because the FA still appear reluctant to endorse modern ways to improve our great game… to me it all appears to be completely backwards and so maybe not such a surprise to see that we could start to fade.. although the kids give us plenty of hope! :)

  354. Ja_Gunner says:

Also before the Barca manure final all the english pundits were saying that Messi had not scored against English opposition and used that to come to the conclusion that Manure would win ..among other things..but they failed to pull up the stats that show that United has not beaten a Spanish opponent in the last 8-9 attempts..these guys pull up stats just to suit them lol.

  355. Lovedup Loner says:

The Prem isnt the best or the toughest league in the world, IMO. Its just the most hyped! Sky and the Premier league big cheeses have done a great PR and marketing job, aided and abbetted by the Murdoch owned gutter press and the other red tops, Setanta, etc…

  356. nishanth says:

I bet someone like kevin nolan won’t make it into the reserves of the la liga teams. But here in premier league he is the supposed to be the hard tackling midfield general

  357. redbearer says:

Yeaha… I fookin hate Andy Gray.. Manure lover!

  358. nishanth says:

I remember at emirates this season downing challenged cesc from behind and it was bad tackle nowhere near the ball. The commentator referred to it as tough honest challenge.WTF does that mean

  359. kelsey says:

have a look at this.talk about fixture pile up for the opening of the season.

Arsenal’s pre-season fixture list (unconfirmed as of yet):

13 July – FC Barcelona v Arsenal (UNICEF Charity Match)

    18 July – Barnet v Arsenal (Pre-season Friendly)

20 July – Lincoln City v Arsenal XI (Pre-season Friendly)

    29 July – Hannover 96 v Arsenal (Pre-season Friendly)

01 August – Arsenal v Atletico Madrid (Emirates Cup)

02 August – Arsenal v Rangers (Emirates Cup)

Apparentley, the 2009/2010 season starts on August 15th. This means that from our last Emirates Cup game against Rangers until the opening day of the season, there is 13 days spare. Usually we have one more friendly a week before the opening league game. champions league qualifiers are on August 18th/19th and August 25th/26th.

  360. Lovedup Loner says:

We still have this thing in this country where, although we secretly wish the English players were as technical as the foreign imports, we cannot admit it and instead choose to glorify the old school, britush grit, good honest no nonsense good old violence that we do sooo well and the refs and media make excuses for… But spit on someone? And you are no better than a terrorist of kid fiddler…

  361. nishanth says:

Wenger will play the kids in most of those matches.Looks like we will win the emirates cup.Yaaaay!!!

  362. Mayank says:

also a funny thing i heard during the CL final..
ronaldo’s the better overall player because of his aerial ability…better CF maybe but better player ha and ha..messi’s tracking back link up is far superior..i wonder how much money the experts lost..

  363. redbearer says:

He’s so anti-Arsenal… and endorses the physical lump your opponent method.. ppl like him should be told to button up and put a cork in it!

  364. nishanth says:

Also the most common thing is that when arsenal win by a big margin its because the opposition didn’t turn up.When united win by a big margin its the because they are the best team in europe

  365. Mayank says:

even i think andy’s anti-arsenal but he’s a decent reader of the game..he calls it as he sees it but with his own twist on it..

  366. nishanth says:

The fact is that the best chance of england winning the world cup or euro will depend on the likes of jack wilshere, gibbs, theo lansbury etc who unlike the other clowns have good technical ability.I know its early to say that these guys will develop into world beaters but there is a good chance of that happening.Unless capello comes up with a miracle

  367. Mayank says:

    well i’m off people…
so we all agree that wenger should be the president of the FA..

  368. Stu says:

HAHA only 50 real madrid fans traveled to Osasuna

  369. redbearer says:

Modern Brit life is all too pc but then hypocritical because certain ppl exploit their own personal circumstances… obviously the media has picking up on this recently and unfortunately Brit culture has endorse the blagging it nature which is completely irresponsible from advertising down to PM’s who wanna claim expenses which are totally unreasonable! Ultimately the government can be blamed but the same callous attitude which filters down to the modern type of football player (think JT) who arrogantly assumes that it is his right to take because his ego demands it! So where have all the decent role models gone… ppl need to lead by example and Stevie G imo would be a better England captain than Terry the twunt!

  370. Stu says:

    Higuain gol….0-1

  371. nishanth says:

You don’t hear people talk much about higuain.I think he is up there with the likes of villa etoo and all.He is only 21 and its 24 for the season now.

  372. nishanth says:

    What the fuck was that

  373. nishanth says:

fabianki would have saved that one

  374. redbearer says:

  377. Stu says:

Osasuna are only getting relegated because they dont have Vela anymore.

  378. redbearer says:

Never intentional Higuain was going for the ball… again crap commentary!

  379. Stu says:

Yeah RedB, its as if he meant to kick him in that exact place!

  380. redbearer says:

    Shrewth that was close!

  381. Lovedup Loner says:

Werder ship loads of goals… Wasnt impressed with him and Metzelda for Germany either…

  382. redbearer says:

  383. Lovedup Loner says:

Quite a few players have had their wisdom teeth removed to help avoid certain types of injuries. Steven Gerrard for one…

Benitez denies any Real agreement to sign Alonso..

  392. redbearer says:

Daft really… if we were to get 20-30 mil for Adebayor.. Huntelaar would be top of my list to recruit and do a job alongside RVP!

  393. ReVELAtion says:

    I had a revelation last night…. ‘xcuse the pun…

Out: Adebayor, Toure, Diaby, Silvestre, Senderos, Traore, Gilbert

    Ins: Sakho, De Rossi, Hazard

Loans: Randall, Frimpong, Bothelo, JE Thomas, Barazite, Lansbury, Simpson

    Squad:

    Almunia/Fabianski/Mannone

    Sagna/Eboue/Hoyte
    Gallas/Nordveit/Bartley
    Sakho/Djourou/Cruise
    Clichy/Gibbs/Ayling

    Rosicky/Walcott/Wilshire
    Fabregas/Denilson/Ramsey
    De Rossi/Song/Conquelin
    Nasri/Hazard/Merida

    Arshavin/Van Persie/Watt

    Eduardo/Bendtner/Vela

  394. A says:

Nah red – good goalscorer in holland, but far too slow and not good enough build up play to participate in our football etc.

  395. Lovedup Loner says:

Id stick an experienced CB in there too fella…

  396. redbearer says:

Ok A.. would Dzeko be a worthy replacement? And if not who’s in the running…

  397. redbearer says:

ReVELAtion.. I see no natural right wingers there! Sure AW must make that a priority and then Theo can be pushed up front… Giving us more options!

  398. redbearer says:

    Ok so Huntelaar says laters!

  399. ReVELAtion says:

no, red.. Walcott is not a striker, whatever way you want to look at it.. He’s not technically gifted enough to play behind the front man and he doesn’t have the goalscorers nouce or physical presence to play up top. Although he does have the pace his finishing lacks a strikers finesse.. He’s best utilised out wide still as an option 2…

Playling with a midfield four of rosicky and nasri out wide utilise the style we have become known for.. We aren’t a get it wide and cross it into the box team or attack off 2nd ball team.. Arshavin behind and great instinct striker in eduardo means we’re a team that will contribute more goals and assists throughout the midfield 5 with de rossi sitting..

We’ve tried to adapt our game to move with the times (Chelsea) but it isn’t working and we’ve gone backwards.. Having a big man up top is not playing our natural game… How many goals did bergkamp or henry get with their head? Long gone are the days of smith and campbell mate…

You cannot argue with a starting 11 of:

    Almunia

    Sagna Sakho Gallas Clichy

    Rosicky Fabregas De Rossi Nasri

    Arshavin

    Eduardo

Bench From: Fabianski, Djourou, Nordviet, Gibbs, Denilson, Song, Walcott, Hazard, Bendtner, Vela, Van Persie

  400. ReVELAtion says:

forgot to make eboue one of the bench options, but that’ll happen…

  401. redbearer says:

Looks exciting mate but do you really think we can get De Rossi on the cheap? Is his contract up?

  402. Arindam@KOL says:

Nishant , Higuain will be a superstar. JUst give him a year more.

  403. redbearer says:

15th June – U21 vs Finland… pen that one down!

  404. Lovedup Loner says:

We scored the 2nd highest amount of headed goals this season… We are more likely to play a formation of 4-2-3-1 as well, it seems.

Theo is capable of being a striker, because he has the pace and is a decent finisher and can still imporve in that position, IMO. Unless AW has changed his mind, thats where he’ll end up too. Possibly even next season, unless he gets fucked up playing for England.

  405. redbearer says:

Yep with you on that LL.. Theo should be given a chance to prove what he is capable of… his touch and vision should have improved but understand that the boy still needs to bulk up!

  406. ReVELAtion says:

They’ve failed to make the champions league… We are still a top draw for a player anywhere.. Wenger, the style of play, the premiership…

We cannot say our history because i still think unless the player supports the club the lack of european trophies is still a mark against us when competing for top targets worldwide against liverpool and united.. It is still though also a case of the money, which, most times we are not willing to pay…

If we can stick 16-18m (straight up no installments) under their noses, i’d reckon the player would want the move. as they’d be oblieged to inform him… Why not?

Realistically we at current don’t play the best football.. That’s a myth, but we are capable of it on our day.. It’s just not often enough…

With the right tweeks and reverting to “the arsenal” way of playing, we are more than capable of winning trophies and competing for years with the youth and experience of the squad…

I reiterate that a squad of:
    Squad:

    Almunia/Fabianski/Mannone

    Sagna/Eboue/Hoyte
    Gallas/Nordveit/Bartley
    Sakho/Djourou/Cruise
    Clichy/Gibbs/Ayling

    Rosicky/Walcott/Wilshire
    Fabregas/Denilson/Ramsey
    De Rossi/Song/Conquelin
    Nasri/Hazard/Merida

    Arshavin/Van Persie/Watt

    Eduardo/Bendtner/Vela

is a squad to be proud of and one that can produce the goods..

  407. RayGooner says:

    Evening Gooners!

I have a confession, i DON’T want Cesc to leave!
    I never had a vision…
I just wanted to stare things up a bit, wanted to hear your speculations a.s.o.
And it worked! I love speculations…
The ones that know me here knows i’m the “Stats” man and i would like to share a bit of that now:

As I see it to be a good goalscorer you’ll have to score at least 15 goals or more in one season. With that in mind look at this…

Since 1946/47 Arsenal has only had 3 seasons before this latest one that they had 3 players (or more) that scored 15+ Goals!!!

    1952/53:
    Doug Lishman – 25
    Cliff Holton – 22
    Don Roper – 16

    1978/79:
    Frank Stapleton – 28
    Alan Sunderland – 18
    Liam Brady – 17

    2001/2002:
    Thierry Henry – 32
    Freddie Ljungberg – 17
    Sylvain Wiltord – 17

    and this Season:
    Robin van Persie – 20
    Emmanuel Adebayor – 16
    Nicklas Bendtner – 15

In all other seasons since 1946/47 only 1 or 2 players managed to score 15+ goals, and on 9 occations none of the players reached 15 goals…

  408. goonerpress says:

Yeah Arindam. Higuain will be a massive superstar. Theres quite a few things we agree on mate!

LL, 4-2-3-1 is one of the best possible formations for us. That providing we buy a strong defender, strong midfielder to sit back with Cesc and a lanky explosive finisher like Torres.
Oh and I see Walcott being a striker next season too.

  409. Lovedup Loner says:

    Great stats Ray!

  410. goonerpress says:

ReVELAtion, mark my words. De Rossi will never leave Roma unless he is pushed out of the club. A Roman will never leave Rome or Roma, unless of course they are shite and not wanted at the club. De Rossi has stated before that he will stay at the club for life.

  411. redbearer says:

Ditto.. top stats Ray! Obviously this points towards needing to strengthen our defensive options as a matter of great urgency… however if Adebayor goes another markman will be required.. anyone in mind?

  412. redbearer says:

    marksman!

  413. Pedro says:

    Evening Grovers!

  414. ReVELAtion says:

    we’ll see…

  415. redbearer says:

    Howdy Pedro!

  416. goonerpress says:

    Evening Sir Pedro!

Marksmen – Huntelaar, Dzeko, Villa, Forlan, Fernando Llorente, Negredo, Ibrahimovic

  417. goonerpress says:

    Oh and Pogrebnyak!

  418. goonerpress says:

I think we should go for Pato. AC Milan players have lost their beloved manager. Kaka is going to Real Madrid, Ronaldinho will be going to Man City and Pato will be all alone. Pato and Flamini would be fucking excellent!

  419. redbearer says:

    Hmm.. good list!

The only realistic affordable ones would be Huntelaar (who is apparently lacking pace / off the ball workmanship qualities), and Dzeko (I hear good things.. two footed, physically smart).

Villa and Ibrahimovic would certainly be out of our price range!

Forlan is too old + an ex-Manc (sorry not for me!)

Dunno about Fernando Llorente or Negredo.. presume Spanish? Please provide more info… thks

  420. incesc says:

whose gonna be the next AC manager??

There team will need a bit of an overhaul this summer, its full of old men.

  421. incesc says:

im not a huge fan of ibrahimovic, he comes across as a bit of a sulker.

I bet villa goes to liverpool as well

  422. RayGooner says:

About the “Selling Cesc” thing, i can just say this:

No matter who we sell, or who we buy, i will still support Arsenal, that’s the bottom line!

    About winning trophies:
Of course i want Arsenal to win trophies but being as i am 37 years old, live in sweden and started supporting Arsenal in the mid 80′s i can just say: 4 years without trophies is nothing, what about those who supported Arsenal between 1972-1988….
    16 years, only 2 trophies (1 F.a. Cup in 1979 & 1 League Cup in 1987)….that would have been a nightmare…
I think maybe we have been a bit spoiled by Wenger (and Graham some what) Arsenal has 27 trophies of all time and Wenger and Graham between them has 13…
In the years 1886-1986 (100 years) we won 14 trophies and in the years 1987-2009 (22 years) we won 13 trophies, if you do the math we should be greatful to say the least with what Wenger and Graham have done for the club…

On the other hand, of course i don’t want Man United, Liverpool & Chelsea to win everything every year but we all know that will not be the case. Things change (for the better or for the worst) but one thing is sure, Arsenal will always survive.
One other thing is that Arsenal is the only club that hasn’t been out of the highest division in England since “World War One”! (some 90 years)! That’s something to be proud of!

  423. goonerpress says:

Huntelaar makes up for everything by scoring. Hes an excellent goal scorer. Proven aswell! Not regarded highly at Real Madrid but has saved their arses on many occaisions. He would link so well with Van Persie.

Llorente and Negredo are both very good young strikers playing for average Spanish La Liga clubs and have both made their way onto the top scorers charts and have scored some vital goals. They are both very good players and wouldn’t cost too much.

Fernando Llorente looks and plays similar to Torres. Hes about 6’5 though. Oh and his full name is Fernando Llorente Torres.

  424. redbearer says:

Agree.. Pogrebnyak would be a good acquisition too… but does he score enough goals? One thing for sure.. he would link up with Arshavin well and I would expect that it would help him to settle but that’s not necessarily a enough good reason to sign him!

  425. goonerpress says:

incesc, just discovered that AC Milans new manager is the Brazilian and AC Milan legend Leonardo. I don’t think Kaka, Dinho or Pato will leave now! Flamini though, maybe.

  426. Lovedup Loner says:

Cant see AC allowing Pato to leave Milan. Flamini or gattuso could be cool, although Gattuso is 31…

  427. redbearer says:

I like the sound of Fernando Llorente.. has height and the agility to match by the sounds of it! Good scouting GP :)

  428. incesc says:

i wonder if leonardo likes adebayor gp?

although i think berlusconi has a big hand in transfers.

Flamini wont come back i dont think but it would be nice.

  429. RayGooner says:

Some more interesting stats for you guys:

Arsenal is the only club that hasn’t been out of the highest division since “World War One” (some 90 years)!

Arsenal has 27 trophies as yet and Wenger & Graham has 13 between them…

So 14 trophies in the first 100 years (1886-1986)
and 13 trophies in the last 22 (1987-2009)

I feel for those who supported Arsenal back in the old days…lol

  430. Lovedup Loner says:

Id be very surprised if Flamini returned too.

  431. incesc says:

i could see wenger going for someone like gignac from tolouse this summer or bastos from lille

  432. redbearer says:

    Again quality overview Ray!

  433. Pedro says:

    So, any gossip?

RayGooner, loving the stats, keep it up!

Who thinks we’re going to sign a DM?

Geoff and I were talking earlier… and we’re struggling to figure out where he is going to strengthen bar at the back?

  434. redbearer says:

Incesc.. yes totally Berlusconi identifies his targets and then dictates to his coach who he should sign… the Adebayor interest should again open up this week onwards!

  435. Pedro says:

“We need someone in the middle to make competition and make a difference, plus give us a new dimension.

“I think that is all we need. The rest is perfect.

“Xabi would be great. He’s experienced and can score goals. I’m sure the boss is aware of that fact.”

Did Cesc really say the above?

  436. incesc says:

i dont know if he will sign a midfielder pedro i think hes going to get a defender. Unless he is going to move song to defence, but he loves his stats and denilson has great stats so he might stick with him.

If Ade goes i like to think he will get a striker.

  437. goonerpress says:

    Thankyou redbearer :)

incesc I dunno if Leonardo would want him. I doubt a guy who had such class in his playing days would want Adebayor. But yes, Galliani will.

Pedro, I think we are going for a DM. I think the guy will be from France or Yaya Toure.

  438. goonerpress says:

Yes he did Pedro! I hope hes pushing him. But the thing is, if Wenger goes out and spends on Alonso he won’t spend money on a CB. We will definately need one as Alonso is not a hard tackler. Tbh, I’d rather have a DM and a CB than Alonso. But Alonso would make Cesc happy.

  439. goonerpress says:

Senderos should be back at the camp next week. So should Traore, Pedro and the rest.

  440. RayGooner says:

The only “BIG” thing that separates us from Man United and Liverpool is the lack of European Trophies….

Liverpool has 11 European Trophies, Man United has 5, Arsenal only has 2, Fairs Cup (former Uefa Cup) in 1969/70 & Cup-Winners Cup in 1993/94.

The Champions League Trophy is the one trophy we lack the most, but our record in the Champions League isn’t that poor if you think about it, in the 10 years we have been in the competition, we have 1 final, 1 semi final, 3 quarter finals & 2 1/16 finals…
The other 3 times we were knocked out after the 2nd Group Stage (in 1999/2000 we entered the Uefa Cup & reached the final there)…
All in all not a bad result but we miss the final step…
But as Adebayor said in an interview:
“2 years ago we reached the 1/16 final (lost to PSV Eindhoven), last year we reached the Quarter finals (lost to Liverpool), this year we reached the Semi finals (lost to Man United), so we are getting better for each year”.
That will surely mean we will be in the final next year (hopefully we won’t lose that one too…)
Well, as long as we don’t face another english team…

  441. Test says:

Does anyone think that Sunderland will buy Rio Ferdinand this summer, does this seem in the realms of reality?

  442. incesc says:

alonso would be a great signing but his madrid bound i reckon.

  443. Stu says:

Perez looks like he is gonna be president at Madrid. He said in his statement that he wants to build a squad of world class players fomr spain and other leagues. Thank god we will only lose cesc to Barca in a few seasons and not madrid.

Still tho…if they dont rate Huntelaar as world class then i’d have him over here.

  444. Pedro says:

Test, not in a million years.

  445. Franchise says:

forlano winnero de pichichi…. stunnero fromero 25yardsero :D

    hi guys

  446. Stu says:

LOL Test, what an odd question. Why ask it?

  447. A says:

Nah test, ferdinand wouldn’t go there even if they had man city levels of investment, which I don’t think they do? Talk is that they’ve got £50 mil to spend in the summer, nothing in the ranges to look at players like that. They’ll be competing with spuds more than the big boys :-)

  448. Stu says:

Franchise, i was waiting for that. And it was actually 35 yards.

  449. Pedro says:

    Fran, A, Stu… evening!

  450. Stu says:

    Evening Pedro……..

  451. Test says:

Because every blog, everyday has people saying we will buy Yaya cause his brother plays for us. Im thinking that unless im going bonkers then obviously Sunderland will be using the Anton link for the same purpose…..

  452. RayGooner says:

Well folks!, that’s it from me today!
Hope you enjoyed the stats, more will come later on, the summer is long…Cheers!

  453. Franchise says:

    pedro hi

    test hi

    A hi

    stu hi

stu what wld u do for a player that can strike the ball with so much confidence, poer and precision? rhethoic Q? :D

  454. Franchise says:

was it really from 35 yards?

  455. A says:

    evening pedro.

Oh ok test, i thought there must be some ridiculous rumour about rio! No yaya is talked of as a signing because he’s the exact sort of player we need, and we know there’s already familiarity between him and wenger having spent a pre season with us, and his brother plays for us.

  456. Stu says:

Well thats what they said on revista Franchise…so i assume they are right.

  457. Franchise says:

raygoon we lost in the 2nd round to PSV no?

  458. Pedro says:

Test, if Sunderland have the reported money they do… it’ll take years for them to make an impact.

Rio doesn’t need the money… he needs trophies and to cement his name in United’s history.

    Expect mostly mercenary type signings.

  459. Franchise says:

Pedro and Rio is already on over a 100k a week

  460. Pedro says:

I’m just about to start watching snakes on a plane… am I about to waste two hours of my life?

  461. Test says:

You guys watched the Real game, sometimes Diarra has some real moments of class. I am not the tow the company line type of fan, its to easy to just slag players off, although I think he was quick to leave I would also say that he should have been given more time on the pitch.

Also re Higuan, class no doubt.

  462. Test says:

Dont do it pedro, paint a wall and watch that instead!

  463. Franchise says:

  464. Stu says:

Never seen it Pedro. But as its name suggests, you’re not in for any suprises. The name gives the game away.

  465. Pedro says:

    Exactly Fran…

There is so much money in the game at the moment that Sunderlands £200 mill barely gives them an advantage.

That’s if the sum is that high… how many times have we heard this before?

  466. A says:

Diarra is a bellend, he was a bellend at chelsea, was a bellend with us before he even left, was a bellend demanding to leave when he did, and was a bellend the second he stepped foot in portsmouth – he’s a bellend.

    Higuain is absolute quality though

Pedro – seriously don’t do it!

  467. Test says:

    LOL A

  468. Stu says:

So theres gonna be 5 officials in the eufa cup next season. That’ll be weird.

  469. Test says:

So is tomorrow the offical opening of the transfer window?

  470. A says:

europa league stu – get it right!

  471. redbearer says:

Don’t you mean Europa Cup lol

  472. A says:

    1st July i believe test

  473. redbearer says:

Haha.. A yer on the ball!

  474. Franchise says:

    1 june window opens

  475. Stu says:

I shall call it what i like, thank you A.

  476. A says:

oh ok franchise, thought it was first of july. Is it just 1st July for the football league??

  477. Test says:

Youre joking right A? I have to wait a whole month before Citeh fail with 10 £100m bids, Tottenham resign Greavsie and we preduce another perfect display of total inactivity?

  478. Test says:

    June, thank god.

  479. Stu says:

    So it opens tommorow huh.
I guess we can expect an influx of amazing players then. Brace yerselves lads…..

  480. Pedro says:

I reckon we’ll sign Titus Bramble and Didier Zokora… job done.

  481. redbearer says:

Yes tomorrow the transfer window re-opens… I really don’t get it when some clubs say that they don’t expect any deals to surmise until the end of the month because the players and agents are on holiday! If a club is seriously interested in a player they will do everything in their power to get ahead of the rivals and attract that player to sign on!

  482. A says:

Test you can wrap up deals before the window closes, you just have to date them accordingly, or you can buy them, but just not register the with Premier League or something?

Just like Juve and Bayern’s signings, they’ve “signed” them, but they don’t actually belong to the clubs until after the transfer window opens.

  483. Test says:

Brambles own goal ratio wasnt in the double figures this year, if he had had a normal season he would have finished golden boot winner.

  484. redbearer says:

Yes that old chestnut… to sign an agreement in principle!

  485. goonerpress says:

I swear the transfer window opens on 1st July.

  486. Stu says:

You shouldnt swear GP. Its bad fucking manners!!

  487. Test says:

wiki it, were in it now.

Messi is probably having a medical as we speak

  488. A says:

That’s what I thought gp. I know it definitely is 1st July for the football league, because Peterborough have signed a premier league defender on loan, but it won’t be revealed who until the window opens on 1st July, though I guess it must be different between the Premier League and Football League??

Hope the premier league defender is Bartley, do him good to have a whole season in proper football

  489. goonerpress says:

Im deeply very fucking sorry Stu! :)

  490. A says:

In fact, it seems with the premier league we’re in the window already!! “The first Transfer Window in any year shall commence at midnight on the last day of the
Season and shall end on 31st August next if aWorking Day or, if not, on the first Working Day
thereafter, at a time to be determined by the Board.”

    http://www.premierleague.com/staticFiles/7a/20/0,,12306~139386,00.pdf

    page 150

  491. redbearer says:

Yep the window opens again on the 1st July.. just checked on the BBC site!

  492. goonerpress says:

If Wikipedia and the Premier League is to be believed, the transfer window is already open. If the BBC is to be believed, the window opens on 1st July.

  493. goonerpress says:

So who do we believe? The Premier League or the Government?

  494. Test says:

I dont know what to believe besides the fact that the terminator on channel 5 has a great arse, and no im not talking about arnie!

  495. Franchise says:

A u correct United signed nani and anderson on 31 May 2007

  496. A says:

I wouldn’t class the BBC as the Govt, the people writing articles are often just bloggers! Premier League official rules must be true, though maybe Uefa rules contravene them?!

  497. goonerpress says:

    My bad A!

That is what I was thinking. About UEFA and their rules. And also the other Leagues.

  498. goonerpress says:

Expect to see rumours like the following very soon!

‘My uncle, a taxi driver, has just picked up Lionel Messi from Manchester Airport and is taking him to Manchester Citys training ground’.

  499. goonerpress says:

‘Harry Redknapp has just been seen outside AC Milan’s training ground. Rumour is he is there to sign Kaka’.

    UPDATE

‘Harry Redknapp has revealed he was in Milan to get Kaka’s autograph for his Tottenham squad’.

  500. goonerpress says:

This very weird idea just came to my mind. Imagine writing the following note on a piece of paper, folding it, adding a dotted line and getting a footballer to sign it as an autograph.

Only to reveal that the paper actually said, ‘The footballer ? has agreed to terminate his contract with club ? and pass on all imaging and player rights to ? (yourself). The player ? has also agreed to pay ? (yourself) an amount of £1,000,000′.

    Would it work?

If the conditions are not met, take them to court?

  501. redbearer says:

Awesome Test… I remember it well.. unbelievable Arsenal :)

  502. A says:

Fraid not GP – the footballer would just argue that they didn’t know the contents of the contract, and that makes it invalid!

  503. choy says:

    evening all…

ancelotti has quit.. who will buy adebayor now? :(

  504. A says:

Well it would be your word against theirs GP, and i’d imagine the judge would consider it more likely that it’s a trick than the footballer decided to give you money for no apparent reason!

Although sportsmen generally use a different signature to their actual signature when giving autographs, to protect against that exact sort of thing, and identity theft etc!

Sorry to burst your bubble, who were you planning on targeting?!

  505. A says:

    chelsea choy!!

  506. Man says:

    Galliani would

  507. redbearer says:

Choy… the Chavs will try but Milan will still be interested!

  508. A says:

Perez?! Ade could be one of the new Galacticos!

  509. goonerpress says:

Oh right. Thanks A. Some nice information there.

Well I was planning on targeting Adebayor and Diaby. Earn their rights, sell them to another club for about 30m. Take 1m, that I earned from their signatures, and give it to Le-Grove so that we could buy Arsenal shares together and keep the other 1m to myself. Then I would pass the 30m over to Wenger. Job done for him. He ain’t gonna do it.

  510. choy says:

    is drogba and/or anelka leaving?

  511. redbearer says:

Can’t see either of them leaving Choy… Cup winner & 2nd place in the Prem with a new manager incoming.. the Chavs will take stock & evaluate before any one departs but I’m sure that they have a few new signings in mind!

  512. choy says:

hey redbearer.. i think they will get zhirkov… the left winger…

i can see ade staying perhaps..

  513. Franchise says:

wow a chelsea led ancelotti he struggled to win the league in italy hopefully he would also struggle here

  514. redbearer says:

Yep Zhirkov is their highest priority… it’s a shame because I would have liked to have seen him play for us but again I think his retail price is too high!

  515. kirby says:

i bet drogba stays at chelsea next season, anelka will stay to, i think, they are ageing i hope they keep changing managers because its not doing them any good! cunt.f.c

  516. goonerpress says:

Ancelotti will fail at Chelsea and become the next manager of AS Roma. Mark my words!

  517. redbearer says:

Ancelotti sounds like a real nut case… I hope the Chavs get him and he throws constant tantrums.. Hiddick would have been their 1st choice but it wasn’t to be… albeit I can see it going full circle and the Chavs will get their man once the Ancelotti episode expires!

  518. goonerpress says:

Fabregas’s Alonso comments have made it to Setanata. Maybe Wenger is looking at Alonso?

  519. A says:

where did they originate gp? Very much doubt there’s anything in alonso talk

  520. goonerpress says:

I don’t know where they ‘originally’ came from. But they were first seen in the Daily Star. Not very reputable but we will see how Cesc responds.

  521. A says:

He won’t respond gp, no reason to

  522. redbearer says:

Imo Alonso is a very good player but it seem unrealistic that we would sign him.. Pool wouldn’t sell him to a rival team… RM would cough up the required 20 mil.. AW really wouldn’t wanna spend all his budget on one player when a CB is another priority so this looks unlikely unless the board decide to max up the transfer funds to 30 mil +

  523. LAzer says:

Hows it goin fellas? We sign anyone yet? Whats the gossip? Am not to sure about where Wenger will sign also Pedro. I dunno if he will stick with the kids for DM or move Song around. I think one thing is for sure though, Song or Denilson one of theh two will be pretty much first team next season so it depends on who he picks.

  524. A says:

Yeah GP – the media miss the whole point of the new defender signing being to get in someone commanding!

  525. LAzer says:

Am sure Wenger isn’t too happy about Cesc’s quotes in the media esp singling out a player like that by name.

  526. goonerpress says:

Come on all you lads at Setanta, The Sun, Mirror etc etc. Come up with some bigger guys.

  527. redbearer says:

Nice spot GP… as long as he’s got the spring in his legs to jump.. could poss do a job!

  528. A says:

    Just typical media work Lazer

    The quotes are

“We have lost big players, but the boss knows what he is doing.

“The days of signing a new player aren’t finished.

“We need someone in the middle to make competition and make a difference, plus give us a new dimension.

“I think that is all we need. The rest is perfect.

“Xabi would be great. He’s experienced and can score goals. I’m sure the boss is aware of that fact.”

Before the first line think something along the lines of “Do you think you need to sign new players after losing big players like Hleb and Flamini in the summer?”

Second question – “Do you think you need someone in the middle to replace flamini”

third question – “Wenger went for xabi alonso last summer, would you welcome him coming in”

Obviously none of those are genuine questions but it’ll be something along those lines I’m sure

  529. LAzer says:

So the crazy season has begun I see with the departure of Ancelotti. Chavs will be pissing money everywhere, Citeh will try and keep up, Sunderland and Portsmouth have funding it seems, RM is going to go ballistic after the elections, Bayern will splash even more if Ribery leaves and if the MAncs to the deal with RM for Ronaldo it might be the largest summer of buys ever. What recession??

  530. LAzer says:

Yeah I can see that A. I suppose its the typical hashed together quotes then. Good point.

  531. LAzer says:

So Ancelotti recommended Ribery and Alonso to Abramovich then..Take Ade for 30 mill while you’re at it please.

  532. redbearer says:

If we big up Ade.. maybe we can get 30 mil… depends on whether it goes into a bidding war between the 2 Milan’s, poss RM & the Chavs! Imo he has some suspect temperament issues so could be best rid of bad news!

  533. incesc says:

    lets sell ade to citeh

  534. A says:

If only red – realistically though i’d take £15 mil for ade, reckon we could get £20 mil at best, unless city get involved!

  535. redbearer says:

Haha… we can always bank on City wanting the best high maintenance type players on the market!

  536. redbearer says:

Rite oh.. I’m done! As ever it’s been an education… laters chaps

  537. incesc says:

do real really have 300 million to spend? i doubt it

  538. A says:

they’ll certainly have a fair bit incesc, just like the previous perez galactico era

  539. incesc says:

    but all in one go?

    madness

  540. A says:

yeah incesc it’s crazy. This summer could be nuts, city, madrid, pompey, sunderland, all spending crazy money potentially.

  541. BOY BETTER KNOW says:

if them chav cunts sign ribery and villa in the summer that is definitely the end of me and football,we should be moving for them sort of players not them

  542. gnarleygeorge9 says:

    incesc

Real probably have 300 million to spend, 300 million pesos, which is equivalent to AUS $30,000.

  543. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Its got me stuffed how the La Loola (Thats English for a spanish 2 horse race) keeps getting mentioned on an Arsenal blog.

  544. PDT says:

    556! That’s how bored I am!

  545. gnarleygeorge9 says:

    PDT

Well my Wolves mate who is chomping @ the bit for next season, is hoping they don’t get any Arsenal cast offs. The last one they got was Oleg Luzhny who never played a minute for them, apparently. I wonder where old Oleg is nowadays ;)

  546. iceman says:

    Gnarley…

    He’s assistant at Dynamo Kiev.
I looked that up…that’s how bored I am!!

  547. Cartman says:

June 1st… Let the transfers begin!!!

  548. Cartman says:

wow RVP’s muscle injuries might have a connection to his wisdom teeth. I’m no expert but it seems rather weird!

  549. ikon says:

i have read somewhere that we are after Cana big time. I hope its true, and I also hope the refs arent biased towards him , just cause he is an Arsenal player and just cause he is kind of a mad tackler.

Cana , Hangeland would be perfect imho. Alonso isnt a tackler, and Barry just isnt good enough I think, he wont fit in.

While we are at it it wont hurt to buy out at least Obafemi Martins from the relegated toons. He is class.

  550. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Cartman it is. Now for the media spin.

  551. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Cheers icy. Oleg! Oleg! Oleg! Oleg! Kiev! Kiev!

  552. CasinoMerse says:

What makes anyone think we should be going for players like Villa and Ribery? We have never been able to buy players like that. When other clubs were buying Verson, Figo, and Zidane, we were buying Edu, Pires, and Freddy.

We don’t really NEED those players anyway. CM and Defence is much higher priority surely

  553. CasinoMerse says:

BTW has anyone actually seen Cana play or is everyone basing it on THAT youtube video. Is he really better than say Veloso or Barry? How did he play in the Champions League?

  554. Cartman says:

gnarley, how come u remembered luzhny??

  555. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Eric Theodore, read my post 4.36.

  556. iceman says:

Last week was all about Hangeland.
    This week it’s Lescott.
    Somebody help :(

  557. Cartman says:

    now i understand!

  558. Cartman says:

CasinoMerse, cana is a real leader, a good tackler and sum1 i might describe as a bully!

  559. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Like PDT  I mean Marty Keown :) Get Cana then

  560. LAzer says:

PDT’s a bully? Can he play as a dm?

  561. iceman says:

IMO AW would most prob prefer a player familiar with the EPL.

    Enter Barry/Hangeland OR Cana/Lescott

    I’d be happy with either.

  562. LAzer says:

Arsenal for the league title next year. I don’t care who the Chavs, Mancs or Pool buy, with our full squad back finally together and a few key buys we will run the table next term.

  563. Geoff says:

Morning all, key buys is what my post today is all about!

  564. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Go LAzer, I hope you are right.

  565. CasinoMerse says:

I think after the weekend no one should be asking for Lescott. He’s too “English”. Slow, tactically naive, and turned way too easily.

He’s good in a real workmanlike team like Everton

  566. Geoff says:

Who would you have then CasinoMerse?

  567. Geoff says:

What did I do, upset someone?

  568. CasinoMerse says:

    Honestly I don’t know.

My scouting network is not nearly as good as Arsene Wengers. I could rattle off a list of CB’s I think are good, but are they realistic? Surely the requirement for our CB is to be either tactically astute. Yes being physical is fine, but the way Lescott sort of switched off, was turned by Drogba, and was out of position yesterday is not something I’d like to see. Our defence already has an element of anarchy to it, and I don’t think Lescott would help sort that out. That and the fact that he’d probably cost heaps.

  569. Geoff says:

I think Drogba can turn anyone, I’ve seen Lescott have some great games, on the basis of getting done by the chavs, our whole team should go!

  570. LAzer says:

    Lescott would be overpriced imo.

  571. CasinoMerse says:

Yeah fair enough. Maybe he will grow in Arsenal colours. That being said, I cannot see the Toffees letting him cheaply, and he is hardly the experience leader of defence we seem to need, is he?

I guess the question is who is a tactically astute, experienced, physical, calm defender who can lead and organize, who won’t cost more than say 10mill. I’m sure every topflight club in the world would like to know.

  572. LAzer says:

And isn’t Jagielka or Yobo a better defender?

  573. ikon says:

    Why not Johnathan Woodgate?

  574. Geoff says:

Ok all I’m about to post!

  575. CasinoMerse says:

Our chance to buy Woodgate was when he was at Boro. Fat chance of getting him now. Anyway, he hasn’t really set the world on fire at spuds, plus he’s the definition of injury prone

  576. kelsey says:

    8 0

    : ?

    8 )

  577. kelsey says:

    ;) 80 8)

  578. ooby says:

Someone said yesterday that Gallas and Toure were doing really well up to when Gallas got injured and I agree. With a strong/quality DM in front of them I honestly feel it will improve the defence and with Vermeulen coming in we have much better options in terms of injuries at the back (if he can hang on to Toure and Gallas). Fingers crossed if Rosicky and Eduardo can stay fit for a chunk of next season I feel all of a sudden we would have very strong and quality squad especially since Arshavin will be available in all comps. (and he will be a strong leader next season which we need) – Sell Ade & Senderos. Up front, if he gets the likes of Dzeko thats a bonus but with Eduardo, Arshavin, RVP, Bendtner, Walcott & Vela there – well…..

Key is QUALITY EXPERIENCED DM & CB – Job Done!
