So, the fantasy champion has been unveiled as Mark O’Connell! Well played Mark, send me your address details and I’ll try and send you a crate of Peroni! Dylan, you are the proud winner of an Arsenal cap!

It’s a stupid game, for stupid people.. in fact, the more clevererer you is, the lower you finish… which is why finishing 239th out of 302 is actually a good thing for me.

Just kidding of course… well played guys, 302 entrants is pretty good! I’ll get the entry up even earlier this year and hopefully supply you with some more exciting prizes!

Onto things of a footballistic nature…

The Chav-Toffee cup final was a bit of a washout… I predicted Everton would go one up and Chlesea would in 2-1… I even backed my assertions with a £2 bet and this morning, I am £13.50 better off. Geoff has been officially fired from predictions for next season.

The final was pretty dire if I’m honest. Everton didn’t really offer too much going forward and Chelsea didn’t really insist on playing great football. The winner from Frank Lampard was pretty special… it still makes me laugh when I read people saying he is an overrated player. The guy is pure class, he’s not a fancy player, but he’s been one of the most consistently productive players of the last 5 years and yesterday he showed why he is paid the big dollar.

If you are interested, there is a really boring article here about Theo Walcott and some crazy fight he got into at school. The journo who held that interview should be sacked… what a pile of rubbish.

Theo, there is a saying… unless you’ve got something interesting to say, don’t say it at all. I’ll give you an example…

‘And once – and I’ve never admitted this to anyone before – when I was at Southampton I was going on the train to Reading with another player, Jake Thompson. We were 16 at the time but we said we were 15 to get kids’ tickets.’

Not intersting Theo… You’re like that girl from American Pie… ‘And this one time, at band camp…’

There is also a story about Barcelona signing Cesc for £45million.

I found out yesterday that a lot of the news agencies are going green this summer in a bid to reduce their carbon impact on the environment. They’re going to recycle a lot of last summers stories over and over again in a bid to save on the hot air they usually spout.

This particular story seems to have come from the ever reliable Mirror website. It is key for you to know that the Mirror has suffered the most out of the dailies in the past ten years losing something like 18% of their readership… their pathetic attempts to conjur up some intersest in their two bit, poorly written piece of crap is nothing short of embarrassing.

My suggestion? Ignore stories unless you like them… then talk about them all summer in the hope they will happen!

BARRY TO ARSENAL!

Have a great day Grovers and remember, don’t take sweets from strangers.

Perez looks like he is gonna be president at Madrid. He said in his statement that he wants to build a squad of world class players fomr spain and other leagues. Thank god we will only lose cesc to Barca in a few seasons and not madrid.

Still tho…if they dont rate Huntelaar as world class then i’d have him over here.

  2. A

Nah test, ferdinand wouldn’t go there even if they had man city levels of investment, which I don’t think they do? Talk is that they’ve got £50 mil to spend in the summer, nothing in the ranges to look at players like that. They’ll be competing with spuds more than the big boys :-)

  3. Test

Because every blog, everyday has people saying we will buy Yaya cause his brother plays for us. Im thinking that unless im going bonkers then obviously Sunderland will be using the Anton link for the same purpose…..

  4. RayGooner

Well folks!, that’s it from me today!
Hope you enjoyed the stats, more will come later on, the summer is long…Cheers!

    pedro hi

    test hi

    A hi

    stu hi

stu what wld u do for a player that can strike the ball with so much confidence, poer and precision? rhethoic Q? :D

  6. A

    evening pedro.

Oh ok test, i thought there must be some ridiculous rumour about rio! No yaya is talked of as a signing because he’s the exact sort of player we need, and we know there’s already familiarity between him and wenger having spent a pre season with us, and his brother plays for us.

  7. Pedro

Test, if Sunderland have the reported money they do… it’ll take years for them to make an impact.

Rio doesn’t need the money… he needs trophies and to cement his name in United’s history.

    Expect mostly mercenary type signings.

  8. Test

You guys watched the Real game, sometimes Diarra has some real moments of class. I am not the tow the company line type of fan, its to easy to just slag players off, although I think he was quick to leave I would also say that he should have been given more time on the pitch.

Also re Higuan, class no doubt.

  9. Stu

Never seen it Pedro. But as its name suggests, you’re not in for any suprises. The name gives the game away.

  10. Pedro

    Exactly Fran…

There is so much money in the game at the moment that Sunderlands £200 mill barely gives them an advantage.

That’s if the sum is that high… how many times have we heard this before?

  11. A

Diarra is a bellend, he was a bellend at chelsea, was a bellend with us before he even left, was a bellend demanding to leave when he did, and was a bellend the second he stepped foot in portsmouth – he’s a bellend.

    Higuain is absolute quality though

Pedro – seriously don’t do it!

  12. Test

Youre joking right A? I have to wait a whole month before Citeh fail with 10 £100m bids, Tottenham resign Greavsie and we preduce another perfect display of total inactivity?

  13. Stu

    So it opens tommorow huh.
I guess we can expect an influx of amazing players then. Brace yerselves lads…..

  14. redbearer

Yes tomorrow the transfer window re-opens… I really don’t get it when some clubs say that they don’t expect any deals to surmise until the end of the month because the players and agents are on holiday! If a club is seriously interested in a player they will do everything in their power to get ahead of the rivals and attract that player to sign on!

  15. A

Test you can wrap up deals before the window closes, you just have to date them accordingly, or you can buy them, but just not register the with Premier League or something?

Just like Juve and Bayern’s signings, they’ve “signed” them, but they don’t actually belong to the clubs until after the transfer window opens.

  16. Test

Brambles own goal ratio wasnt in the double figures this year, if he had had a normal season he would have finished golden boot winner.

  17. A

That’s what I thought gp. I know it definitely is 1st July for the football league, because Peterborough have signed a premier league defender on loan, but it won’t be revealed who until the window opens on 1st July, though I guess it must be different between the Premier League and Football League??

Hope the premier league defender is Bartley, do him good to have a whole season in proper football

  18. A

In fact, it seems with the premier league we’re in the window already!! “The first Transfer Window in any year shall commence at midnight on the last day of the
Season and shall end on 31st August next if aWorking Day or, if not, on the first Working Day
thereafter, at a time to be determined by the Board.”

    page 150

  19. goonerpress

If Wikipedia and the Premier League is to be believed, the transfer window is already open. If the BBC is to be believed, the window opens on 1st July.

  20. Test

I dont know what to believe besides the fact that the terminator on channel 5 has a great arse, and no im not talking about arnie!

  21. A

I wouldn’t class the BBC as the Govt, the people writing articles are often just bloggers! Premier League official rules must be true, though maybe Uefa rules contravene them?!

  22. goonerpress

Expect to see rumours like the following very soon!

‘My uncle, a taxi driver, has just picked up Lionel Messi from Manchester Airport and is taking him to Manchester Citys training ground’.

  23. goonerpress

‘Harry Redknapp has just been seen outside AC Milan’s training ground. Rumour is he is there to sign Kaka’.

    UPDATE

‘Harry Redknapp has revealed he was in Milan to get Kaka’s autograph for his Tottenham squad’.

  24. goonerpress

This very weird idea just came to my mind. Imagine writing the following note on a piece of paper, folding it, adding a dotted line and getting a footballer to sign it as an autograph.

Only to reveal that the paper actually said, ‘The footballer ? has agreed to terminate his contract with club ? and pass on all imaging and player rights to ? (yourself). The player ? has also agreed to pay ? (yourself) an amount of £1,000,000′.

    Would it work?

If the conditions are not met, take them to court?

  25. A

Fraid not GP – the footballer would just argue that they didn’t know the contents of the contract, and that makes it invalid!

  26. A

Well it would be your word against theirs GP, and i’d imagine the judge would consider it more likely that it’s a trick than the footballer decided to give you money for no apparent reason!

Although sportsmen generally use a different signature to their actual signature when giving autographs, to protect against that exact sort of thing, and identity theft etc!

Sorry to burst your bubble, who were you planning on targeting?!

  27. goonerpress

Oh right. Thanks A. Some nice information there.

Well I was planning on targeting Adebayor and Diaby. Earn their rights, sell them to another club for about 30m. Take 1m, that I earned from their signatures, and give it to Le-Grove so that we could buy Arsenal shares together and keep the other 1m to myself. Then I would pass the 30m over to Wenger. Job done for him. He ain’t gonna do it.

  28. redbearer

Can’t see either of them leaving Choy… Cup winner & 2nd place in the Prem with a new manager incoming.. the Chavs will take stock & evaluate before any one departs but I’m sure that they have a few new signings in mind!

  29. Franchise

wow a chelsea led ancelotti he struggled to win the league in italy hopefully he would also struggle here

  30. redbearer

Yep Zhirkov is their highest priority… it’s a shame because I would have liked to have seen him play for us but again I think his retail price is too high!

  31. kirby

i bet drogba stays at chelsea next season, anelka will stay to, i think, they are ageing i hope they keep changing managers because its not doing them any good! cunt.f.c

  32. redbearer

Ancelotti sounds like a real nut case… I hope the Chavs get him and he throws constant tantrums.. Hiddick would have been their 1st choice but it wasn’t to be… albeit I can see it going full circle and the Chavs will get their man once the Ancelotti episode expires!

  33. goonerpress

I don’t know where they ‘originally’ came from. But they were first seen in the Daily Star. Not very reputable but we will see how Cesc responds.

  34. redbearer

Imo Alonso is a very good player but it seem unrealistic that we would sign him.. Pool wouldn’t sell him to a rival team… RM would cough up the required 20 mil.. AW really wouldn’t wanna spend all his budget on one player when a CB is another priority so this looks unlikely unless the board decide to max up the transfer funds to 30 mil +

  35. LAzer

Hows it goin fellas? We sign anyone yet? Whats the gossip? Am not to sure about where Wenger will sign also Pedro. I dunno if he will stick with the kids for DM or move Song around. I think one thing is for sure though, Song or Denilson one of theh two will be pretty much first team next season so it depends on who he picks.

  36. A

Yeah GP – the media miss the whole point of the new defender signing being to get in someone commanding!

  37. LAzer

Am sure Wenger isn’t too happy about Cesc’s quotes in the media esp singling out a player like that by name.

  38. A

    Just typical media work Lazer

    The quotes are

“We have lost big players, but the boss knows what he is doing.

“The days of signing a new player aren’t finished.

“We need someone in the middle to make competition and make a difference, plus give us a new dimension.

“I think that is all we need. The rest is perfect.

“Xabi would be great. He’s experienced and can score goals. I’m sure the boss is aware of that fact.”

Before the first line think something along the lines of “Do you think you need to sign new players after losing big players like Hleb and Flamini in the summer?”

Second question – “Do you think you need someone in the middle to replace flamini”

third question – “Wenger went for xabi alonso last summer, would you welcome him coming in”

Obviously none of those are genuine questions but it’ll be something along those lines I’m sure

  39. LAzer

So the crazy season has begun I see with the departure of Ancelotti. Chavs will be pissing money everywhere, Citeh will try and keep up, Sunderland and Portsmouth have funding it seems, RM is going to go ballistic after the elections, Bayern will splash even more if Ribery leaves and if the MAncs to the deal with RM for Ronaldo it might be the largest summer of buys ever. What recession??

  40. LAzer

So Ancelotti recommended Ribery and Alonso to Abramovich then..Take Ade for 30 mill while you’re at it please.

  41. redbearer

If we big up Ade.. maybe we can get 30 mil… depends on whether it goes into a bidding war between the 2 Milan’s, poss RM & the Chavs! Imo he has some suspect temperament issues so could be best rid of bad news!

  42. A

If only red – realistically though i’d take £15 mil for ade, reckon we could get £20 mil at best, unless city get involved!

  43. redbearer

Haha… we can always bank on City wanting the best high maintenance type players on the market!

  44. A

yeah incesc it’s crazy. This summer could be nuts, city, madrid, pompey, sunderland, all spending crazy money potentially.

  45. BOY BETTER KNOW

if them chav cunts sign ribery and villa in the summer that is definitely the end of me and football,we should be moving for them sort of players not them

  46. gnarleygeorge9

    incesc

Real probably have 300 million to spend, 300 million pesos, which is equivalent to AUS $30,000.

  47. gnarleygeorge9

Its got me stuffed how the La Loola (Thats English for a spanish 2 horse race) keeps getting mentioned on an Arsenal blog.

  48. gnarleygeorge9

    PDT

Well my Wolves mate who is chomping @ the bit for next season, is hoping they don’t get any Arsenal cast offs. The last one they got was Oleg Luzhny who never played a minute for them, apparently. I wonder where old Oleg is nowadays ;)

  49. Cartman

wow RVP’s muscle injuries might have a connection to his wisdom teeth. I’m no expert but it seems rather weird!

  50. ikon

i have read somewhere that we are after Cana big time. I hope its true, and I also hope the refs arent biased towards him , just cause he is an Arsenal player and just cause he is kind of a mad tackler.

Cana , Hangeland would be perfect imho. Alonso isnt a tackler, and Barry just isnt good enough I think, he wont fit in.

While we are at it it wont hurt to buy out at least Obafemi Martins from the relegated toons. He is class.

  51. CasinoMerse

What makes anyone think we should be going for players like Villa and Ribery? We have never been able to buy players like that. When other clubs were buying Verson, Figo, and Zidane, we were buying Edu, Pires, and Freddy.

We don’t really NEED those players anyway. CM and Defence is much higher priority surely

  52. CasinoMerse

BTW has anyone actually seen Cana play or is everyone basing it on THAT youtube video. Is he really better than say Veloso or Barry? How did he play in the Champions League?

  53. iceman

IMO AW would most prob prefer a player familiar with the EPL.

    Enter Barry/Hangeland OR Cana/Lescott

    I’d be happy with either.

  54. LAzer

Arsenal for the league title next year. I don’t care who the Chavs, Mancs or Pool buy, with our full squad back finally together and a few key buys we will run the table next term.

  55. CasinoMerse

I think after the weekend no one should be asking for Lescott. He’s too “English”. Slow, tactically naive, and turned way too easily.

He’s good in a real workmanlike team like Everton

  56. CasinoMerse

    Honestly I don’t know.

My scouting network is not nearly as good as Arsene Wengers. I could rattle off a list of CB’s I think are good, but are they realistic? Surely the requirement for our CB is to be either tactically astute. Yes being physical is fine, but the way Lescott sort of switched off, was turned by Drogba, and was out of position yesterday is not something I’d like to see. Our defence already has an element of anarchy to it, and I don’t think Lescott would help sort that out. That and the fact that he’d probably cost heaps.

  57. Geoff

I think Drogba can turn anyone, I’ve seen Lescott have some great games, on the basis of getting done by the chavs, our whole team should go!

  58. CasinoMerse

Yeah fair enough. Maybe he will grow in Arsenal colours. That being said, I cannot see the Toffees letting him cheaply, and he is hardly the experience leader of defence we seem to need, is he?

I guess the question is who is a tactically astute, experienced, physical, calm defender who can lead and organize, who won’t cost more than say 10mill. I’m sure every topflight club in the world would like to know.

  59. CasinoMerse

Our chance to buy Woodgate was when he was at Boro. Fat chance of getting him now. Anyway, he hasn’t really set the world on fire at spuds, plus he’s the definition of injury prone

  60. ooby

Someone said yesterday that Gallas and Toure were doing really well up to when Gallas got injured and I agree. With a strong/quality DM in front of them I honestly feel it will improve the defence and with Vermeulen coming in we have much better options in terms of injuries at the back (if he can hang on to Toure and Gallas). Fingers crossed if Rosicky and Eduardo can stay fit for a chunk of next season I feel all of a sudden we would have very strong and quality squad especially since Arshavin will be available in all comps. (and he will be a strong leader next season which we need) – Sell Ade & Senderos. Up front, if he gets the likes of Dzeko thats a bonus but with Eduardo, Arshavin, RVP, Bendtner, Walcott & Vela there – well…..

Key is QUALITY EXPERIENCED DM & CB – Job Done!
