Dave you are out of order, sit down and shut up. Or are you?…

by & filed under Uncategorized.

So there I was Monday night and hadn’t seen my beloved Arsenal in action for 10 days, so I was getting my fix by watching ‘Arsenal legends’ on Arsenal TV, no big deal, it was Malcolm MacDonald and it showed how he was signed by Dennis Hill-Wood in 1976 (I think) – it went through his career where he scored over 40 goals in 80 games, then came the commercial break and up pops Dave, with his frozen peas, what? It was the commercial that Arsenal run trying to get you to use their banking system for tickets when you yourself can’t go.

He had what we all dream off, he was shopping in a supermarket, I guess it was one of Stans and he was transported from the aisles of the shop to the terraces of the Grove, then when he realises where he now was, began cheering like a banshee and waving his frozen peas around, I know we are not allowed flags, but judging by this amazing commercial, we are allowed to wave around frozen peas.

Then Samir Nasri scored (against West Brom) and he (Dave) and the rest of the crowd went ballistic. All good fun you think? No, what I noticed was through the whole commercial, the entire section were standing up, not just for the goal, but for the whole ad, yes standing up, where the hell were the stewards? And where in the ground was this? So when I said terraces, I meant seats, they just looked like terraces, because no-one was sitting down.

So unless it was a complete howler, did the powers that be think the unthinkable? That there is more atmosphere when people stand up? Was it because if the crowd were sitting and politely clapping it would have looked and sounded crap?

Dave you are a hypocrite, you were breaking the Arsenal stewarding rules, waving a pea flag and standing up. I don’t think I can go anymore if this sort of bad behaviour is condoned, I mean it’s downright dangerous, what are they thinking? what about crowd safety and the fact these people are spoiling everyone else’s enjoyment with their riotous behaviour.

Shame on you Arsenal, is this a case of wanting your cake and in fact eating it?

Then I studied all their commercials and all of them show the crowd on their feet cheering, how bizarre. Not a one where people are sitting.

Other news is that Stan just bought 5000 of Danny’s shares, if he wanted 5000 more shares would it not have made sense to buy Nina’s and take them out of circulation? Will somebody explain the logic of that transaction to me?

Anyway I’m thinking of taking copius amounts of frozen peas with me to the next home game and a video clip of the ad to show to the stewards and saying that Arsenal advertise this kind of yobbish behaviour, so it’s okay for me to do it, after all, if Dave can do it, why the hell can’t the rest of us, and given our next away kit will be green, frozen peas seem like the order of the day.

Feel free anyone from Arsenal to comment on my observations if you would, nay, if you can.

The liars from Hull city have now entered their evidence against Cesc, so let’s hope that after looking at this stuff, 5 minutes later they will diss it for the shit it really is and apologise to our great captain.

I think the least that should happen is to dock them 3 points and relegate them.

Have a great day Grovers and don’t forget to bring your frozen vegetables to the next home game, Arsenal encourage it, but mind where you wave them, they can be dangerous and there are a lot of meat eaters out there that could take offence, and we don’t want that, do we…

Franchise, Hleb was there then. Them two had an understanding which meant our technical level was good enough to override their roughshod tactics.

We saw though that when Fabregas and Hleb dropped physically we began to struggle.

With Fabregas as the main man we have to be switched on all the time. As soon as switch off the likes of United and Chelsea penetrate with their sheer physicality and not much else.

  2. slimshady

Why not Franchise? Cesc will obviously play, Nasri got guaranteed first team action as a pre-condition to joining, and Arshavin’s too good to not play. That only leaves out Theo & Sicknote, not counting the others. Seems only logical IMO.

  3. Franchise

get this in ur head Paul we have been playing much better because we have been playing poor teams, teams that have run out of steam and of course the arshavin factor. We still havent shown anything IMO to say we are ‘BACK’

In total we have played very well like 7-8 times all season IMO (max 10).

LAst year we had at leat 30 top games. Arshavin and a missing DM/CM whatever u wish to call it have been the missing link. Nasri is a top player but in terms of quality he isnt on Arshavin’s level yet. Arshavin is a very able replacement for Hleb.

NAsri has been a bit hit and miss but he has shown he got the goods. We need a better midfielder than Flamini next year and watch us piss the league.

    Forgot about CB

  4. Franchise

slim shady it depends on the opponet but on paper that midfield looks to light. If we trying to get a result in the latter stages of the game it could work Fabregas would anchor and NAsri would push forward but I doubt if Wenger would buy it as our first choice partnership

  5. Paulinho

    Let’s hope your right Franchise.

I don’t think Arshavin is the same sort of player as Hleb though. We saw at Newcastle the first signs of his notorious laziness when it comes to tracking back and I think that will be par for the course from him.

Arshavin will be one of those rogues who slacks defensively and then wins your heart with a class goal.

Hleb worked his bollocks off, “cocooned” Cesc by playing in field with him as a duel playmaker and our game was more compact.

We won’t find it as easy to tame the likes of Liverpool and United with our possession football because that’s not Arshavin’s forte.

We will be more of a goal threat though so it all balances itself out in the end.

Fabregas is more suited to the possession game though and our new direct, all action style could lead to defensive problems of biblical proportions.

  6. slimshady

Hey – remember last year we played several games without DM’s. AW picked a midfield of the SIcknote, Hleb, Fab4 and Theo loads of times, and we used to play alright. I’m just saying – he has way too many stars now in Central mid to afford playing his pet projects.

  7. Franchise

We are not direct dont let no one fool u Paul. Up until 1st week in MArch we were complaining about crab football i dont know where u r getting this direct thingy from. Arshavin and Walcott of recent have given us good outlets… before that we were passing side to side endlessly and crossing woefully.

  8. kevin

Paulinho, we will play united off the park, beleive me. We are the only team united know that they have to go “defensive” with, maybe barca aswell.

  9. Franchise

the best footie we’ve played Paul since 04 was last season with Cesc in da side. I forbid that our current style becomes the norm cos it isnt anything special.

  10. A

    fraid not slim

champs league game defensive mid -

    gilbo
    song

not a single game we played without a dm in champs league, or in anything! hleb didn’t play centre mid, he only played centrally in a 5 man midfield as the most advanced behind the forward

  11. gazzap

I googled that question from steve earlier and apparantly it is Jermaine Pennant.

He has indeed scored an own goal for liverpool vs man united reserves as well as a regulation goal. He has won the league with arsenal. He has never played for england. He has won trophies in spain, italy and scotland as part of pre-season and youth tournaments (which i reckon shouldn’t count but without this the answer is impossible).

  12. Confidentgoner

    Paulinho,

Agree that we will get on well without Cesc. No doubt about that. Diaby is the guy tha makes me wanna cry. Extremley one minute, lousy the next and then injured soon after.. what a life!

  13. Confidentgoner

    * extremly good one minute…

Let us focus on the Bindippers as they happen to be on a good run and we have to face them in their den soon.

Most of their goals have been from free kicks, penalties and from long balls to the 18 yard area (sometimes called Plan B soccer). Middlesborugh stopped them and I think we can too. They could not beat us with ten men. Now we have AA, possibly Theo, new and improved Song and Rosicky to use. Arsenal to win in the return leg, anyone.

  14. gazzap

agree with A, wenger would never start with that midfield Slimshady. maybe after substitutions where we needed to score a goal or a late injury to our DM then potentially it could happen but in general you would never play with that midfield.

Nasri could hardly get a game in central mid while cesc was out, now he is back there will be even less chance of that happening.

All the times we were bullied out of games earlier this season when Cesc WAS playing, he was next to Denilson. Now I am not a football manager but I can see that if you play a midfield of Cesc Den Nasri and Theo that its very very lightweight. you cannot blame Cesc for being weak, because he is a bloody good footballer. If you have to have Nasri and Theo on the wings then you absolutely 100% have to have a strong ox in the middle with Cesc. That player for Arsenal is Song.
We do need to buy a proper DM like Inler or Cana and I agree with whoever said earlier that Arsenal would be back on for the title next season.

  15. A

yeah i agree gazzap – though not all teams will bully us.

For the time being against physical teams song needs to play so we don’t get bullied

against good technical teams denilson should play for his general intelligence, interceptions etc

against weaker teams diaby should play for his extra drive and attacking ability.

  16. Pedro

    Hmmmm…

    Tough one…

Adebayor is fit again… and Wenger does favour the big man…

Would he suit playing with Arshavin though? How about Eduardo and Arshavin… or is Eddie injured? I read that Diaby is injured… and I thought Nik was as well?

  17. A

i dunno about that pedro – wenger only favoured ade when there was noone else. I don’t think ade would suit arshavin at all, as he doesn’t nasri.

Yeah eduardo is the other option, he’s fit I believe, be interesting to see how he does for croatia tomorrow night

vp is a doubt for saturday

bendtner is a doubt for denmark tomorrow, so I’d guess he’ll be ok for saturday

diaby is out for france with a sore hip, but I wouldn’t expect him to play anyways against city

  18. Pedro

I can’t work out what our best strike partnership would be?

Ideally you’d play Eduardo with Arshavin out wide… Nik B probably suits Arshavin the best… Ade and Robin worked very well last season…

What partnership would you say is our strongest?

  19. A

i dunno pedro – as a partnership bendtner and eduardo suit each other very well, bendtner and vela also play very well together. Van persie is our best forward though. Ade and eduardo did well last year.

Arshavin behind eduardo could work well, but maybe it’d be better with arshavin out wide.

It’s a tough one, be interesting to see what happens in the rest of the season

  20. Faceman

A striker as lethal as Eduardo should never be played anywhere near the wing… that would be criminal.

He is the best box striker since Fowler… and therefore belongs in the box.

  21. Ja_Gunner

    Team for city

    …………..Al…………..

    Eboue…..Kolo…..Gallas…..Clichy

    Nasri…..Cesc…..Song/Den…..Arshavin

    ……..Ade…….Eduardo………….

Van Persie and Nik B are injured makes no sense starting them and Ade actually scored for Togo.

I still think we should use an opportunity to rest Sagna, he played all the the way up the international break and he is still playing for France.

If he continues on this path he proabably break down in this hectic month of April and also May when we need him….We have champions league away on Tuesday, Sagna should be saved for that. Man City is horrible away from home, Eboue should be enough.

  22. Pedro

No one said stick him out on the wing! Although he did a good job when he played there at the start of his career.

  23. Faceman

Sorry Pedro, i thought when you said play him and Arshavin out wide @ 17.56, you meant play him wide instead of central.

  24. Franchise

im good sire…. 4 more days to go. Im hunting a tkt badly. would be a good game i reckon? whats up with all these injuries?

  25. Pedro

You’re looking for Man City tickets?

I have 2 in the exchange and I think Peaches wants a spare… why don’t you get them and split the other one?

  26. Pat

Hopefully the injuries to Diaby, Nik, and RVP aren’t serious and they’re available for the weekend. If Cesc plays, I think he’s going to have a stinker since he’s been out for so long.
    If injured:
    Almunia
    Sagna Toure Gallas Clichy
    Theo Song Cesc Arshavin
    Ade Eduardo
    If not:
    Just replace Ade with RVP

Hey, at least it looks like we finally have depth, especially once Rosicky gets back. SO much attacking talent

  27. gazzap

strongest pair up front would be Nik B and Eduardo for me. either that or Ade and Eduardo. not the Ade of this season though.
I have faith that Ade will come back better than he was earlier this season. he will be fitter and more motivated. I seem to remember Ade and Eduardo looked devastating last season just before Eddy’s terrible injury.
RVP may be our best individual but I am thinking partnerships and RVP does not form great partnerships.
In general I would always have a big and small man together, given the playes we have anyway.

AA on the wing and probably Rosicky on the other side – either him or Nasri, its hard to choose.

Cesc and ???. not sure who to partner cesc. we dont have a strong DM at the club.

  28. gazzap

diaby and cesc is fine when we are at home and not facing a top 4 team, but away from home I cant see that it would be strong enough defensively. Diaby’s strongest points are in attack.
Den and Cesc is like having 2 exactly the same players. Den should be in the team when Cesc is not, but not when he is. for me a team needs to have a blend of different styles. why put 2 clones next to each other in midfield? cesc is already doing that job, we dont need another one doing the same thing (and being weak at the same thing). you dont tick more boxes by putting 2 similar players on. Den is clearly a worse version of cesc.

we dont have the right player at the club. Song is the right kind of player. he is the new gilberto if you like, but probably not good enough in terms of raw ability. Song would be my back up player to a new DM that we so badly need. Coquelin looks the right kind but is 2 years away. thats the tropuble with buying 16 year olds all the time. WTF do you do for the 3-4 years you are waiting for them? buy a 25 year old that blocks them when they do reach 19/20?

  29. Pedro

Gazzap, I’m not sure I agree with you in your assessment of Denilson.

I think Denilson will be Gilberto with bells and whistles… he has great stats, he wins the ball, rarely wastes a pass and he’s picked up his game big time of late.

Diaby isn’t a clone of Cesc… although nowhere near the finished article, he could develop into one of the most talented players at the club. A lot of people think Cesc plays high up the pitch… well, watch him next time he plays, he sits quite deep and he mucks in defensively.

Song is like a stripped down version of Gilberto… very basic… like a robot.

  30. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

people go on about him and them stats he’s only got a good passing rate stat because he only passes it 5yrds and its always sidewards

  31. gazzap

I just dont buy denilson’s stats like everyone else. they hide the truth. as I say he can pass til the cows come home. great when Cesc isn’t there, but Cesc is a better passer, so literally not needed when Cesc is there. and winning the ball? really, you see him winning headers in the middle of the pitch in front of defence. eg long kicks from a goal keeper or balls over the top? I dont see Denilson winning those balls. That is Song’s strength. Song wins those first and second balls that no one else in the squad even attempts to win.
Den can nick a ball away when its on the floor and close players down, so he can do that, as can Song.

basically when Cesc and Den played earlier in the season teams could drive a wideload right through the middle of our team. it was just too easy to get at our defence.

they were wengers first choice pair earlier in the season but for me were our biggest problem in some of our worst performances. you can say cesc was just tired and off form, which is true but I think it ran deeper than that.

  32. Pedro

It’s his overall stats BBK… here is how they grade it:

    * Calculation 1 – Assesses a player’s contribution to a winning team, based on points won by the team when he appeared.
    * Calculation 2 – Assesses a player’s performance in each game, by allocating points for actions that positively contribute to a winning performance such as shots, tackles, clearances and saves. It also takes points away from players for negative actions such as yellow/red cards and shots off target.
    * Calculation 3 – Allocates points based on time on the pitch.
    * Calculation 4 – Allocates points for goal scorers.
    * Calculation 5 – Allocates points for assists.
    * Calculation 6 – Allocates points for clean sheets.

  33. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

exactly gazzap denilson and them stats are a load of bollocks,i just read he had hardly any experienece playing at club level before we signed him no wonder he is shit

  34. Pedro

Stats prove that a player has value to the team. Denilson does win headers, he nips in front of players, he tackles well and he distributes well. He’s also played in a lot of winning teams of late… so I don’t see how you can knock him at the moment?

As for Song… ok… he can win balls in the air, but he isn’t particularly mobile and his passing is woeful.

Cesc was just as much to blame for our early season form as any of them… pinning it on Denilson is unfair.

Oh, and as for your trophies comment… we’re still in 3 last time I checked and the only trophy we’ve missed out on so far was the worthless cup.

  35. A

yeah they do bbk, you won’t have a team that wins trophies who don’t have players with very good stats.

the science of football and stats aren’t the be all and end all, but they are very relevant when analysing the game and individual players’ performances and impact on a team.

denilson has very good passing stats, and those represent his ability to keep possession, his ball retention, which is absolutely fantastic, and very important for us.

he’s also got very good stats when looking at interceptions and tackles.

he has weaknesses in his lack of strength, and doesn’t create much (though that isn’t his job) but he’s been very good for us this season, to say he’s shit or stats are bollocks is absolutely ridiculous

  36. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

nope he has not made it in the prem the amount of times he has passed it to the opposition is a joke not to mention the amount of times he has let players just run in the box and score it’s a joke for his so called defensive duties.stats don’t mean nothing

  37. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

if your so optimistic pedro its 125/1 for arsenal to win the league go put a few quid on it ,you never know

  38. Pedro

BBK, we’ve gone 17 games unbeaten and had one of the best defensive records in the Prem… you’re talking rubbish.

  39. Keyser

Song, Denilson and even Diaby are progressing fine as individuals for their age, the only thing you can question is whether they are ready to play the sort of football that challenges for titles, and thats at present, doesn’t say anything for the future.

Denilson earlier on in the season made runs forward and picked out passes for goals, you only have to watch his pass to Arshavin, I think the one for his goal against Blackburn. Even Song once he’s got some confidence behind him can play some very good balls forward.

The crab football isn’t something they started out with, it’s come with a loss of confidence and as they at first struggled to find some confidence, but then they are young and inexperienced and as they’ve had other players and outlets come back into the team, you can see it returning and they are playing much better.

  40. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

as you say keyser is he ready to play title winning football that answer is no and never will be,that is what we lack and why we won’t win the league unless we get better players in the team that can offer more then the likes of denilson

  41. Pedro

Keyser, I’d say the progress we’ve made in the second half of the year would indicate we will challenge next year.

If we had goals in us… we’d be challenging now.

  42. Coadsi

Agree with that assessment Keyser. Le Boss is stubborn, if he believes in someone he is gonna stick with them no matter what

  43. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

wenger’s stubborness has cost us big time in the past couple of years it’s time he had a massive rethink in the summer

  44. Keyser

Boy Better Know Sho !!! – By th same reasoning, I hope you bet a few squid on us not winning the title each year they stay in the team, starting from next season, actually winning anything for that matter.

  45. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

if wenger keeps useing denilsong we will have no chance,we need better then that to win something

  46. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

well england had no arsenal players and france had one in traore who was crap, look out for gabrielle orbetan and sissoko

  47. Keyser

Pedro – All season we’ve been asking for the players coming in to show improvement and now we finally get what we want and no-one wants to give them any credit because they haven’t won anything, hopefully we carry on in the same vain and finish the season strongly.

  48. Pedro

Yeah I know Keyser… I don’t think this year was the right approach and I don’t think it was fair on the fans… but we’ve stomached the pain, and now a few players are showing signs they can hack it at the top level.

Denilson and Bendtner have made the biggest improvements… Theo has been better… Vela has shown us he has an eye for goal and Gallas has shown his class.

There are a lot of positives to take.

  49. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

Just qualifying for the Champions League is not good enough for Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis, who believes manager Arsene Wenger needs time to put the Gunners back at the top of the English Premier League.

Arsenal is in fourth place, fighting with Aston Villa for the final Champions League spot from England. And while injuries to Cesc Fabregas, Theo Walcott and Tomas Rosicky have made things difficult, Gazidis doesn’t seem to be interested in excuses.Well Ivan tell wenger to sign better players instead of playing players in the light of bendtner, eboue, denilsong and we might get somewhere

  50. Keyser

U21′s – Traore didn’t play as well as he could have, but France were pretty comfortable, they could have had a few more if N’gog had his shooting boots on.

Huddlestone just hates moving and it looked like England didn’t have many options, I thought Gibbs was in the squad but it didn’t look like he was on the bench.

  51. Pedro

BBK, why aren’t we fighting Chavski for third? You’re too much of a glass half empty man…

Gazidis isn’t interested in signing top players? In his first transfer window he purchased Arshavin for £17million… that’s a good start.

  52. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

thats all he can do is score a header even stevie woder could score against west brom and newcastle

  53. Keyser

Pedro – I do think we have been a bit unlucky, those 4 draws we’ve had in recent games could have gone either, would have had us a lot closer in the end, actually several games have been like that all season, if the players coming back actually improve the team even further and we don’t regress, I’ll be pretty happy.

  54. Keyser

Boy Better Know Sho!! – Until Stevie Wonder races ontothe pitch and actually scores one, I’ll stick with Bendtner.

  55. Pedro

BBK… there is no point in debating with someone who has the same view with everything.

You wouldn’t blog if we were top of the league…

  56. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

that is just one player we need more players in the class of a.a to win something ,not the denilsongs and eboue’s of this world

  57. Keyser

Yeah he would come on to tell us all about the points we dropped and the goals we could have scored if we had better players.

  58. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

i just can’t work out why people are happy to settle for bendtner, eboue, denilsong no wonder we have not been anywhere near the premier league title

  59. Coadsi

i know this was prolly discussed already. but based on what we do know now. who do we start on saturday? i know i will get the stick for being pessimistic but here goes. say we will not have
Gallas (too tired), AA23 (too tired), RVP (obvious), Diaby (obvious), Sagna (knackered), Vela (travelling from too far)………whats ur starting 11

  60. Coadsi

BBK i see ur point, but i for one am not happy to settle as you put it. but the fact is i cannot change this so i just support the team and get on with it. otherwise i will be stressing out myself over something which i have no control over

  61. goonermichael

Denilson has more assists than that overated cunt Barry and he’s a lot younger but people (some on this blog) seem to rate him. I’d have denilson any day.

  62. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

coadsi as long as we continue with them and even signing players like them we will get nowhere

  63. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

players to sell in the summer here’s a list…..
eboue-might get a bit of money for him.
denilsong-id drive these two to there destination my self.
bendtner,senderos,djourou-they can go on a free transfer.

  64. A

i do wonder sometimes whether some on here are wind up merchants, spuds fans posing as gooners to cause trouble

  65. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

denilson only passes it to the opposition and doesn’t know to track players that are a threat

  66. Pedro

BBK, you can state crap like that till your blue in the face… but we all watch him week in week out and know you’re talking rubbish.

  67. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

untill this current team win a trophy i will be proved right in my judgement of these players

  68. Keyser

Boy Better Know Sho !!! – You thought Chelsea would thrash us, we won, you lost a bet and still went back on it, even if we win a trophy it seems like you’re still going to miserable.

    It’s sad mate..

  69. goonermichael

How can you be frustrated by a bunch of cunts? Surely frustrating means not reaching potential or underperforming. So by your reckoning they shouldn’t be dissapointing you. So I would have thought finishing near the bottom which we have done would be more frustrating.

  70. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

come on keyser we beat them with an offside goal that was a huge amount of luck they never had essien, carvalho or drogba, did you know when drogba has played we have not beat them which is sad.The only time i wil be happy is if we get back to a team that can resemble the sort of power that the 03-04 team had and you knew we would strong enogh to last a season and challenge for honours.

  71. Stu

Eboue is shit in this current squad. The others just arent good enough or the right players for this time. Thats about it. But hey thats just my opinion.

  72. Stu

Well….IMO Eboue is the shittest. The others just arent good enough. Song is decent for his country and can do a job for us but ….ok i suppose he is shit too.
And Denilson is……not shit but not briliant either.

    Whats your point?

  73. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

my point is unless wenger gets rid of them or continues to sign players like them no trophys will be coming our way

  74. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

a that is just over board now ,if the players i was going on about had the same amount of talent them 4 had we might have half a chance

  75. Keyser

Boy Better Know Sho – Thats your reply ? We didn’t have Walcott or Arshavin, Diaby and so on, they had one shot on target and only scored from a Djourou own goal, you made a bet and backed up on it, how many times have they been lucky with an offside goal in recent times ?!

  76. A

i think our squad fully fit is currently as good as any in england, and with the kids getting better all the time will be miles better than anyone elses.

Our only weaknesses are centre back and possibly defensive mid, other than that I wouldn’t swap our players or strength in depth with anyone elses.

even with the current squad i almost expect us to win the champs league and fa cup double, going from strength to strength etc, not just hope for it! we could even win the league if utd keep capitulating! what an amazing treble that would be.

either way i expect without a single signing for us to be very close to winning absolutely everything next year, our strength in depth going forward is incredible
