Clichy say we should praise Wenger. Cesc back in training, Murphy back scoring.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Ok let’s begin with yet another soul telling us we don’t know how lucky we are, he said we have had 10 fantastic years and one not so successful, okay so now we know Gael Clichy can’t count either.

I’m happy with what Arsene has achieved in his tenure, I’m just not crazy about the last 4 years, too much praise for anyone is not a good thing, sometimes people have to be challenged, especially when they earn £6million a year (£115,000 a week) and do what they want, especially when all can see we need a few players including the media, all the commentators and several ex Highbury legends, so being critical and challenging isn’t a crime, it’s healthy.

I remember fat Frank Lanpard swearing allegiance to Ranieri, then Maureen, the Grant, then Fat Phil and now the Dutchman, footballers praise whoever picks them, remember Beckham and Sven, then he swore allegiance to MacClaren and now his best mate is Coppello, the mind of a fickle footballer is one of knowing where your bread is buttered.

However that was just a retort to young Mr Clichy and not a pop at anyone.

Big game tomorrow and I expect nothing but a convincing win, I’ll be there doing my bit and I hope to see a great game, we have bundles of talent, maybe we should give Jay Thomas a run out, or Coquelin or even Murphy who scored a cracking goal against the Spuds midweek and looks a real prospect, and he’s been off for a year, welcome back son, you made thousands of spud haters happy with that goal!

The great news is that Cesc is back kicking a ball and should be in the team for the next round of the Champions league, once we have taken care of Roma that is, Eduardo and Theo will be back tomorrow so maybe they could feature against Roma as well.

Either way, from tomorrow we have a fun filled week of football and much to look forward to, I fly back to Blighty this morning and look forward to getting away from the cold and rain of Spain, again.

Have a great day Grovers, I’ll catch you all later.

P.S. I have a club level ticket going if anyone wants to go to the Burnley game tomorrow, it’s half price. E-mail in!

The worst part of the summer is transfer gossip, well for us anyways, always linked with every player under the sun but sign no one :(

Well bed is calling, night all, have fun in your remaining hour at work Nick ;)

  2. Geoff

Of course it is Kelsey, of course it is, now go and sit down and draw the curtains, you have expatitis.

  3. kelsey

benno it gets to hot here in August can reach 40= and loads of bloody tourists, but i believe this year they will stay in the UK, Butlin’s here we come ;)

  4. Geoff

Benno 40 my arse, all the brits abroad have trouble working out the temperature.

I just got back from a week out there and it didn’t get above 14 and it rained every day.

  5. benno

Kelsey, thats the minimum I was saying there, i think the warmest so far this summer was 41 but we’ve been over 35 deg pretty regularly recently, too bloody warm sometimes!! still beats the cold, dark winter of the uk tho :D

and now i am off to bed!!

  6. nick

Geoff don’t wanna point any fingers but the last couple of days have been bright and warmer till today hows that song go…..something about weather with you ;)

  7. kelsey

Why don’t you have a world map on the site, with a pin from where everyone lives. On the top of my head at least 20 countries come to mind.

  8. patthegooner

I actually want the Spuds to win today, so they carry through some confidence and form into their game against Villa next week

  9. arsenalised

Funny since i started blogging on le-grove a spud has never commented here wrighty7 had one who was a regular bt fucked off after a while.a spud would get mauled on here.

  10. nick

thats a real conundrum i go with spuds relegated villa will drop more points anyway and if we dont make cl this year next we will but spuds will be in the championship for a nice few years

  11. patthegooner

It is a hard one. despite the ribbing and shit that we could give any Spud we know, I think I would miss the games every season if they got relegated. We win more than we lose/draw so i would plump for the Spuds win over Villa.

I dont want CL qualification to go down to the last weekend. I want to seal it as soon as possible

  12. Lovedup Loner

When asked about his favourite European teams, Adebayor said: “Barcelona make me dream but I also like Real Madrid and Milan, who have very good players.”

    Heeheeheeheeheehee!!!

    Afternoon…

  13. Lovedup Loner

    Hey nick!

Just been dead busy fella. Was about Thursday when we beat the spuds tho!

Geoff; Agree about giving run outs to Coquelin and JET. Frimpong and the 2 CBs look good prospects to me too.

  14. Pat

We have to be wary of Vucinic when we play Roma. That guy could score from anywhere and he just scored after coming on

Can anyone inform me how THFC get away with spending the national debt of a medium sized European country and still produce very average football without coming in for the criticsm us boys get(probrably because the likes of Harry Harris,Les Ferdinand and Teddy Sheringham can get jobs in the media without a brain cell to share between them, whilst our spending resembles Silus Milner’s on a poor day. They have lashed out millions on Bale,Hutton,Palascious,Modric,Pavchenko and Corluka to name but a few in the last year, where does all their dough come from?….answer Jo Lewis who bankrolls them year in year out.
Their fans would actually have the front to have a go at us if we didn’t qualify for the CL when those jokers haven’t appeared in it since it’s introduction.
Unfortunately their 4-0 win against ‘boro will probrably keep them up but I don’t think there has been a team in the history of the Premiership who has spent so much money and performed so badly. These facts should be of some consolation to those fans who support Arsenal but feel that things are going poorly as in you can always say to yourself”atleast my Dd didn’t take me to watch that shower of shit when I was 8″.

  18. Geoff

Arsenalised Kenya sounds fantastic mate! One day.

Loved up we should play any of them rather than Song, all day long.

  19. A

lol coquelin and frimpong are very good prospects, but lets see if they can do it in the reserves before even talking about giving them a run out in the first team!

They’re exceptional for the youths, but there’s a big step up from the youths to the reserves, and a bigger one from the reserves to the first team.

To say they should play ahead of song is absolutely ridiculous – at reserve level, a much higher level than youths, song is fantastic!

  20. A

and JET is considered too tactically retarded to play centre mid for the youths, he’s a long way away from being able to play there for the first team!

  21. George

Arsenalised;the reason that Spurs fans don’t usually comment on Blogs like this is that their dim, blinkered, ignorant and often menacing views would be about as informative and enlghtening as an evening with Bernard Manning.I have tried to engage in a reasoned debate with many of their fans on the net but usually it ends up with the usual intelligent stuff like “Wenger’s a paedophile”,which is strange considering he has a top looking Mrs,or threats of violence which is all very brave on a computer but having seen their mob attacking women, children and old men outside the away end at WHL I tend to leave them to stew in their own vile hatred and encourage them to maybe get all bleary eyed over a Pathe News clip of their “Glory Years”,whilst listening to Chas and Dave.I need to check my facts but I have a feeling their “Glory years”consisted of a double and a European Cup and considering the achievements of clubs like Nottm Forrest and Villa in the 80′s I would find it all a bit embarrassing to hark on about something that happanned 57 yeras ago….oh well it gives Garth Crooks something to get bleary eyed about when he introduces another overpriced purchase down at “The Lane” when he asks “do you think Spurs will ever receate those Glory Years”…..Arsene did it in his first full year in charge by the way.

  22. leon

i think couquin should play in carling cup games to young to go on loan, but i dont think he will be playing first team for while though

  23. Lovedup Loner

A; Sooo JET is more tactically inept than Song?

I aint saying JET, Coq or Frimpong are ready NOW to start, but next season, Carling Cup and 1st team bench shouldnt be too far off, or perhaps a loan to a Prem or Champ league team…

  24. Lovedup Loner

    George

The spuds spending to (lack of) success ration is hilarious, yet the media let them off the hook and even though they are flirting with relegation, been knocked out of all the cups and have yet again spunked millions in january, will be given gushing media reports like the one in the mail the other day about magic Arry.

  25. A

yeah he is loner, obviously he is – he’s too tactically inept to play for the youths, whereas song isn’t tactically poor when playing for the reserves. I agree about carling cup.

Geoff coquelin has only played once i think centre mid for the reserves, maybe twice, though he is quality at right back. frimpong and JET have only played two or three times for the reserves, and looked pretty poor, though to be fair they only play when all the decent players are out, and the team i think has lost every game when they’ve played and that’s been the case, and been crap as a whole, so they havn’t got a fair go.

  26. A

though JET, frimpong, and coquelin aren’t ready yet to be loaned to a prem or champs league team. They’re a similar level to henri lansbury, they’ll go on loan to league 1 or the championship at some point next season i’d expect

  27. Lovedup Loner

A; You’re probably right, but it all depends on the rate of development, as well. They mioght improve dramamtically or level out… Who knows..?

But JET will be top!!! :D

  28. George

Lovedup Loner;I refuse to buy the Mail out of principle as their anti Arsenal pro Manchester United reporting of events is insulting to a reasonable man’s intelligence. They used to have a guy called in Ian McGary working there who now works at the Sun who hasn’t written a positive article in his life about Arsenal;the day after we won the double he ran a story about Vieira leaving(again)rather than bring himself to congratulate us in our achievent.Cunt.
There are various people out there who cannot wait to put us down;Custis at the Sun is one but I tend to avoid their drivel and read Mckalveni(incorrectly spelt probrably)and Henry Winter who give a balanced view.
As for the TV and radio Hansen is remarkably accurate in his assesment of the most important features of a game and as for Clive Tydlsley and Richard Keys;Iam surprised that they can talk with Sir Alex’s cockin their mouths.
One thing that bothers me about the media is the things they don’t report for fear of annoying the wrong person ie
Why doesn’t Alex Ferguson talk to the BBC?
Answer;because Panaroma(probrably with the guiding hand of Mcmania and Macmanus)reported the fact that at an AGM at Old Trafford someone questioned the fee paid to Alex Ferguson’s son’s agency(£2.1 million on a £4.5 million transfer)for Machimo Tahibi. This extraodinary high charge to the club by the son of the manager for a shit keeper that played 3 games obviously raised a few eyebrows.
My point is that George Graham got sacked for lining his own pockets with Arsenal’s funds, quite correctly, why is it then that noone is allowed to mention the saga surrounding Alex Ferguson’s son?
Answer because Alex will then refuse to talk to them.

  29. indian_gooner

    anyone watching manu?
wow what i’d give for arsenal to be finish like they do ..rooney tevez ..wow!

  30. Pat

why the hell do teams roll over for United. Fulham were the better team until that shit goal they conceded.

I cant fucking stand United. Hope Inter batters them or scores in stoppage time, 2nd leg, to make it 1-1

  31. Joaquin

line up for sunday, my prediction:

    Bendtner
    Arshavin
    Nasri Denilson Ramsey Theo
    Gibbs Djourou Gallas Sagna
    Fabianski

subs: Eduardo, Vela, Clichy, Bischoff, RvP, Mannone

    What do you think?

  32. patthegooner

I am watching Man Ure today with a bit of frustration.

When you look at big four this season we have made it too easy for them. This Season was there for the taking but……

Chavski got it wrong with Scolari. Correction, a bunch of ego filled arseholes did not like playing under him and Chavski went with Player Power.

Benitez bottled it and then sold Keane just because it was not his call, and they now suddenly rely on three players, Carragher, Gerrard and Torres, and they have struggled when any of those three are injured. Infighting and egos have killed them. That Rant will go down with Keegans.

And Wenger did not use the financial Resources available to him and made some wrong tactical and line-up calls early on.

I honestly believe if we had bought in two more class players (A CM and Arshavin) last summer, we would be right in the mix now. In fact I think we would be top.

Ferguson must be laughing his tits off at how easy three clubs have made his life.

But if we can get past Burnley tomorrow, and then Hull, I think with players coming back we will give either Chavski or Man Ure a run for their money in the semi-final if drawn against them.

We cant let them win all four.

  33. George

    “anyone watching Manchester United?”
yeah probrably half of Surrey wearing replica kits whilst boring eveyone senseless about “how they have been a Man Utd fan all their life”whilst unfortunately never quite able to get there.Glory riding pricks.

  34. Joaquin

funny, all the strikers on my bench are left footed…
I was thinking of the selection problem we will have once these guys are fit. These players that haven’t taken their chance in their stead will have trouble making the subs bench, let alone getting minutes.

  35. George

totally agree Pathegooner Iam convinced that we are 1 central midfielder away from being geniune title contenders as we have shown that we can match anyone on our day and with the players returning from injury the future is brighter than it was.
We all saw that with a highly charged strong driving force in the middle of the park(which Diaby was against Roma)we can be a formidable outfit.Song does not and will never provide the drive required to win big trophies so bring on a great central midfielder in the summer to compliment Cesc and I’ll put money on us winning the Premiership for the first time in 5 years.

  36. patthegooner

Oh and whilst I am at it, people that moan about Arsene not buying English should look at Chavski this week.

I think it is about mentality.

When was the last time Arsenal Players were on the front page of the press for incidents involving nightclubs and booze.

Yet you can probably go through the entire England best 11 and they have all fallen foul of the media at some point,

Ashley Cole proved this week what a total cock he is. He gets caught playing away from home, trys to get some Chavski Heavies to try and save him by stealing the Camera, and then moans for being arrested for having a go at the press/police outside again for being caught with his trousers down. He is a fucking disgrace.

  37. Pat

I’ve never been at an Arsenal game, but I’m off to college next year and I plan to study abroad. London, here I come!

    4-2-3-1

    Fabianski
    Sagna JD Gallas Clichy
    ____Song____Denilson__
    Theo____Diaby_____Arshavin
    _______Nik_______

We played a 4-2-3-1 against Cardiff. Eduardo and Nasri to come on in the 2nd half to get a little warmup before Roma.

Is Diaby injured, btw? And how long is TOure out?

  38. Joaquin

diaby is fine, toure should be back tuesday. I think gibbs will keep his spot for the fa cup. Maybe Eboue for sagna, i dunno

  39. George

PatheGooner someone in the Standard a couple of months ago tried to correct the theory that “Arsene doesn’t give the English youngsters a chance”which was a popularist, lazy theory produced in The Mail etc.
    We give many English youngsters a chance in the Under 18′S,21′s and reserves and many represent their country at those levels.What we don’t do is the following because of financial constraints;
    Rooney £28 million
    Ferdinand £28 million
    Carrick £20 million
    Hargreaves £25 million.
So I for one will not be fooled by pricks like Steve Coppell(who still harbours a grudge re the 1979 final!)about how to run our club.

  40. Pat

Both of Inter’s CBs came off injured today.

Pizarro will certainly miss the 2nd leg against us as will Cassetti, Tonetto, and Perrotta.

Francesco Totti, Juan and Simone Loria are also major doubts in defence for that match.

  41. patthegooner

    I know George

Song really frustrates me. I feel that some people just make excuses for him as he is an Arsenal Player. I just cant see how people rate him but I guess opinions are opinions. I always used to like Wiltord whilst most did not like him.

But Song is simply not good enough and that midfield role is so pivotal to the overall effectiveness of the team, that when he plays he kills off the class of those around him.

They are carrying him and it kills us.

  42. George

Just like Eboue,Song is being played out of his natural position,as Song isn’t a bad centre back and it is only Arsene’s fault that we are faced with watching these two numpties in the midfield regularly.

  43. Pat

Geroge, I actually like the runs and Eboue’s movement in the middle. If he improves his passing/shooting(a lot), he could become a good midfielder. I think its all down to him and how hard he practices. As of right now, though, he’s best at RB

  44. patthegooner

    Pat

Yes I do, I think he could be an effective Squad member at CB and this makes me wonder why the fuck we bought Silvestre. He looked good there at the tail end of last season and looked good last week when he had to go there when Toure was Injured

It is the same as Eboue. He is a fucking waste of space on the RW, but is a great RB.

Its ok living of this two playing in CM and RM due to a really bad injury situation, but banking on them in those positions all season is crazy.

  45. George

Thanks Pat just read it but your original comment said”both Inter’s cb are out…”that’s why I commented.Good news anyway and let’s hope Totti is out as he is truelly World class.

  46. George

Pat’we have all seen glipses of how effective Eboue can be(Tottenham away for 15 minutes he was very good)but he is a thick wanker who can’t shoot and often is too thick to know what the best opttion is with the ball,I don’t think we will see much more of him at right midfield as Rosicky and Walcott will hopefully be back soon.He can then slot back to reserve right back and maybe if he’s lucky the crowd will start to sing his name again to the tune of Teqila when he fills in admirably at right back(that seems a long time ago that I was singing his name outside a bar in Paris when he helped us to the final and played very well….at right back)

  47. kelsey

    patthegooner hello,

remember me stating eboue would be better off at harlequins.

You are basically right,Man u have been handed the title on a plate, and because we have not invested correctly last summer we have the likes of eboue and song to contend with.ramsey got a jolt in the first game at cardiff, wilshere it appears has been designated to the reserves for this season, vela is work in progress, though personally i have my doubts about him,and even theo has a way to go.Then add in the worst blunder of the summer by tripling ade’s wages, who thinks he can walk on water, and bedntner is still young, but will he wait.that leaves eduardo as our only true clinical finisher.rv is not an out an out striker and the buying or arshavin,i am sure was as a safegaurd replacement for rosicky.if we can invest about 17million in january why didn’t we do it in the summer.A lot of the blame lies with wenger as his way and his way only is accepted by the board.his gamble on youth has failed, and he should just say he got it wrong and change his policy.

  48. kenny smith

i wouldnt get too scared over man utd’s win tonight because fulham were absolutely dreadful defensively!!! really really shite!!! i dont understand why teams lie down for them.

  49. patthegooner

I know Kelsey, Eboue would be a pretty effective Rugby Player. His runs even mirror those of the egg shaped ball picking a line through the opposition. I guess they dont play it in the Ivory Coast though.

I would love him down at the Ospreys, I think he could play Outside Center, he would be a great 13.

  50. Lovedup Loner

Roy Hodgson lost the game tonite before a ball had been kicked IMO. In his program notes he was waxing lyrical about how Fulham were playing the best team in the world..yadda yadda…

Now thats really the attitude to take into a game innit? Yeh say all that AFTER, but before? Why not just roll over and get your tummy tickled?

  51. Lovedup Loner

Fact is, United looked all over the place defensively in the 1st half, yet Fulham werent up for it and let em off…

Oh well, when they play the chavs in the semis, we’ll have to beat one or the other in the final!

  52. Lovedup Loner

Hate Eboue, am soooo gutted I am saying that about an Arsenal player… But Ive just got no time for him any more… The miss against Roma was bad enough, but his reaction to it… Hands on hips, eyes skywards lookin all forlorn… while the effin game was goin on around him FFS!

Thats the last time Im even goin on about him, soooooo bored of discussin it.

  53. Lovedup Loner

Bouldy’s doing well with the kids. He’s been a coach for 8 years! That really surprised me, when I found out. He’s gotta be looking to step up to the 1st team soon.

OMFG! Real madrid play an effin Lennie Kravitz toon when they score! Cheesy fucksticks!

  54. Lovedup Loner

Wow! Real are shite, no wonder Liverpool beat em!

Huntelaar is sooooo slow, Bendtner’s got more natural talent than him and will be a far better player IMO.

    Ooh contreversial!

  55. Ja_Gunner

I would start this team against Burnley.

    ………………..Fab………………..

    Sagna……..Djourou……Gallas……Gibbs

    ………..Song…….Diaby……………

    .Nick B………..Arshavin………..Vela

    …………….RVP…………………….

I would rest Nasri, Clichy and Denilson…so they would be fresh and ready for Roma.

If we are winning comfortably, I would sub Sagna, Nick B and RVP/Diaby. So these guys would be ready for Roma as well.

  56. Ja_Gunner

We know that Wenger wont start Vela in the Roma game so he might as well play a full game…also Arshavin should play the whole game cause he cant play agaist Roma, we need Nasri with the same energy levels he had against Roma in the first leg so thats why I dont play him, same for Denilson, we need Denilson fresh as well because he “owned” them the last time.

Walcott can come on for Nick B, Eboue for Sagna and Ramsey/somebody else for Diaby.

  57. kelsey

    Fabianski,Sagna,Djorou,Gallas,Gibbs,Denilson,Diaby,Nic,Arshavin
    rshavin,Nasri eduardo :subs, Song,RVP,Vela,Eboue,Ramsey.

Not my team but the one i expect to play

  58. arcastic

    Morning all,
I hope Walcott plays some part today and comes through some tough challenges to get his confidence up and running again.
