Pretty football but no cutting edge and Bentley is a gooner!

by & filed under Uncategorized.

So Danny boy, no, not Fizman but Murphy, says we look good but have no finisher, no experience and we have lost the fear factor we had when Wenger believed in 29 year olds.

He also says we have missed Fabregas and Adebayor, mmm, not sure I would call Ade a finisher, but he did get over 30 last season and we can’t score now, so maybe we do need him back, but I still rate Robin, he could have had a hatrick in each of his last 3 games, so I think it’s just down to bad luck, and don’t forget we still have Eduardo to return.

I would like to see the team that played Fulham again, because I think the real problem is he hasn’t played the same team too often, players like Vela never get enough time and if they aren’t playing all they do is warm the bench, it’s not like they are playing in the reserves, so when they finally get their chance, they aren’t match fit, so I would rather see Vela, Ramsey and Wilshere trying and failing than Song again this season.

Sagna and Clichy are both having a torrid time so I would rest them and play Gibbs and Eboue, both are able cover, in fact I would go so far as to say at this moment in time both are playing better.

Arshavin looks like he is going to be a great player, I like his flicks and deft passes, it will not be long before he starts banging them in for us, it would be good if he would start this week though, we could do with picking up a few points and seeing a few of his trademark goals.

Poor old Dave...

A special mention to ‘I’ve always been a spud’ David Bentley, David, you made my day, you made me feel like Superman when you scuffed your penalty and let Man United win the cup we never put the first team in, so you have single handedly blown European football for Spurs next season, well done son, you’ve done every gooner proud, so much so, we still think you’re a gooner and you did it on purpose!

If the spuds didn’t like you much before, you can be sure they’ll hate you know, you have outdone Sol Campbell by being hated by both sides of north London at the same time, at least he was only hated by one side at a time.

Quiet day today but West Brom are next up and hopefully that will lift our spirits again, Aston Villa did us a favour so no blood there and 6 points is do-able, they have a tough run ahead and we have an easy one, well certainly an easier one, it’s up to us again, so Arsene, have faith in the team you played aganst Fulham, and only bring in the injured players as they come back.

No more Perky. Have a great day Grovers, we have been given another chance, let’s hope we take it.

If villa make the CL they will put out a weakened team in it next season to concentrate on the PL ie getting in the top 4 again. Thats how fucking pathetic they are, and shows why they are not a true top 4 team. teams that put weakened sides out in europe should be punished somehow.

diarra was an irrelevance when he went, we didn’t need to replace him because we had flamini playing well, though diarra was much more talented than flamini ever was, noone said we were fucked or that we needed to replace him at the time, we had too many centre mids back then.

    Flamini, Gilberto, diaby, denilson.

Flamini going was also imo something of an irrelevance, as imo our current centre mids are as good as flamini.

however even with flamini there was a need for a top quality dm rather than just a decent one, which is why we went for inler and alonso etc in the summer, and i think we would have whether or not flamini was still at the club.

diarra footballing wise is very talented but he’s a complete prick and i’d never want him anywhere near the club again, good riddance to the cunt.

We do need to sign someone top notch in the summer, and i expect yaya to arrive!

i watched the goals from stilian petrov and glen whelan yesterday in the stoke- villa match ( apart from carew’s masterpiece) and was thinking to myself … whwn did i see an arsenal goal like THAT ONE last ? classy direct midfielders goals , shot through a maze of players , finding the target.

  4. Bren

Ade’s mind was elsewhere at the start of the season, and then he picked up a few injuries. If he wants to stand any chance of a big move in the summer, he will need to get his finger out till the end of the season. Being a mercenary, I think he will start to break sweat when he returns and score goals.

Santa Cruz has picked up his form at Blackburn so as to insure that he seals a move this summer.

Arsenal forced to reject deal at Highbury development

“A Singapore-based investor, who has yet to be identified, has agreed to buy more than 100 flats at the club’s Highbury development. According to the Guardian, the investor has agreed to pay the club around GBP 50 million while Arsenal has already received a non-refundable 10 percent deposit to guarantee the deal. Although he was willing to make a large down payment, the investor was not prepared to pay that sum in full on an up-front basis.

While the hefty investment would be of great benefit to the club, Arsenal was forced to decline the offer due to Irish bank regulations.

According to a statement issued by Chairman Peter Hill-Wood, the club is now exploring options that comply with the lenders, yet still fulfil the requirements of the project. Hill-Wood further confirmed that flat sales are moving ahead, although not as quickly as expected. Arsenal expected to sell approximately 300 flats by now, with only 186 claimed.

Arsenal secured a GBP 135 million loan with Barclays, RBS, and the Bank of Ireland to secure the new development, but reports have since suggested that the club is struggling to repay the debt. The club is running short on time, as the loan’s April 2010 repayment date becomes closer.”

I will go for a loss with Senderos opening the scoring, Earnshaw i think will equalise and Cunt Darren Carter will score the winner via a left footed Volley.

I dont know why tho. :???:

  11. tomstoned

anyway ill have a hard time explaining to the misses, that im actualy celebrating a win tonite, with the game beeing played tomorrow…feels like i have to go shopping with misses first,to set things right…:)

and just a small point ..di you all see the way Denilson is sneaking up to be the worlds best midfielder…works as hell..smiles,,loyal,,never a bad word..and a workrate that even Lance Armstrong would be proud of :) .that wonderkid got what it takes…

  12. Arsenal Tom

i think the West-Brom game will be very interesting, they are basically just a worse version of us… pretty football with no cutting edge and no end product. hopefully with them being at home to it’ll mean that they will try and play a bit more, 1 goal should open the floodgates, everyones too scared of missing at the moment

  13. ed atom

slightly off topic point of interest. This is quite strange but true…..if all the premier league sides were forced to field an all English side now, we (Arsenal)would probably be relegated.

ManU, Aston Villa, Spurs, West Ham and Portsmouth will complete the top five. Based on this, evidence, may be, we should appreciate all the players we have now. I agree a few of them are not up to it at the minute, but it is not their fault that the manager chooses to play them out of position. below are all of the options available to all current premier teams.

I found this quote by me on 17 Jan 2008 (14 months ago) on the archive of another blog:
“I dont know whether it was last week’s result or the injuries or the sale of Diarra but my early optimism has changed to a pessimism and I just feel, that we might be about to blow it all. I think we have improved since last season but there are still certain things that I dont feel are right around the club. parts of the squad still feel too weak to me. we are relying on certain players to play better than they have all season and we are relying on other players not suffering any injuries to even give us a chance. Arsenal’s old bad habits of doing badly against the weaker sides might come back to haunt us. the only team who can stop us winning the title is ourselves.”

Seems pretty accurate even with hindsight!

  15. Franchise

    we need a sugar daddy

    we need a sugar daddy

we need a rich sugar daddy

no CL and next year we would be fucked up big time

the reccession isnt gonna disappear overnight

those flats are proving to be a thorn in our flesh

we need a fucking rich sugar daddy

or a conglomerate of sugar daddies

  16. leon

    TOM
thats a bit harsh i think weare litlle better tahn that.but if we cant win this game i think confedence will realy drop

  17. Stu

Dont know why Rodgers is there. He is worse than anyone else at the club, bar none!!!!!

And Hoyte and Gilbert are in the worng place. Also I would have bartley in there.

  18. irishgunner

Franchise – that made me laugh ha ha it seemed like a song but not a very catchy one – “we need a fucking rich sugar daddy or a conglomerate of sugar daddies” thats the best line :D

  19. leon

    franchise

i dont think wenger chosen to spend money the board will back him no matter what players he wants bring in

  20. tomstoned

well then off…have a great day all Gooners,,,and heey just remember one thing…Our Beloved Arsenal is and will be for all future the only team worth watching …besides from Brazil…whom i love..too..:)

    take care All…

    where’s that pint …??..:)

    As Always Best Regards tom.

  21. Arsenal Tom

leon… harsh but true… we are similar to them in style and situation… we play similar style of football… keep it on the floor pass it about) but dont do much with it.. we are far better than them but there are comparisons… they were called the arsenal of the championship so im not the only one who sees it, i do think though that we’ll beat them, mainly because another draw would just be ridiculous !!!

  22. Franchise

the board have always said that the business side and the footballing sides are seperate but how long more for?

  23. leon

    franchise

wenger has the complete backing of the board he has more anyther manager in prem if wanted b uy 4 players for 50 mill the board would back him its wenger has chosen to spend, how many times have perry say that he has funds to but who ever he wants

  24. gazzap

how can anyone think if the Highbury square skints us it does not affect the football business. of course it does. money has to come from arsenal one way or another.
If we are in the shit, then a sugar daddy is needed. the board will resist that as long as they can but will have to sell if it comes to it.

  25. Franchise

leon that was probably true until very recent when the reccession became official we cant afford to be tied down by those flats in the short or long term. not making the CL for one year would strain our finances big time meaning there would be less ‘available’ to spend.

Note that i put available in quotes cos I believe wenger chose in the past not to even touch the available funds

More than a year without CL would be a catastrophy IMO

  26. A

yeah i just saw that irish, says theo back in full training but won’t be available for west brom, and eduardo and ade have a slight chance of being fit for burnley.

also said couple rotations for tomorrow but nothing drastic as 5 day rest before burnley

    cesc and rosicky 3 weeks

  27. irishgunner

A – yep seems he’ll keep pretty much the same team, he said maybe 1 or 2 changes. Djourou for Gallas is one, unless he’s thinking of putting Bendtner in for Vela but I think it may be better to keep him on the bench.

I presume Simpson can’t play against us?!

  28. A

i’d be pretty sure bendtner will start, maybe instead of van persie as he’s been getting more and more tired recently and he’s been most at fault for misses!

    nah simpson can’t play

  29. irishgunner

Vela and Bendtner up front could be worth a shot.

As for those coming back by the way AW is talking we should have Walcott, Adebayor and Eduardo back for Roma? If only on the bench??

  30. A

yeah you’d imagine so, if there’s a slight chance of burnley then there must be a better chance for roma. i reckon theo definitely, eduardo probably, and ade possibly.

i agree about vela and bendtner up top, eboue right mid for arshavin possibly if he’s as tired as his quotes in that article say

  31. charybdis1966

I don’t think we should take West Brom lightly as we only got a 1-nil win off them at our place, and that was before our confidence was shot to pieces, as it is now. As ever we need to get an early goal, but that looks unlikely while our cruddy luck continues in front of goal and our cruddy speed killer(Song) pedal plays in midfield.

  32. charybdis1966

You’d a thought so Irish, but even after the Hull debacle I get the feeling certain team members think we just have to turn up to win games, not mentioning Adebayor or Song by name.
I also think that with every groan form the crowd at a misplaced pass the loss of confidence translates into being too scared to go forward and force the issue in the final third; hence we get the constant sideways passing. So much for there being 11 leaders on the pitch as Wenger claims – they appear to be all hiding in that case.

  33. Geoff

We scored after 4 minutes against WBA and then played crab football for the rest of the game, boy was that a sign of things to come!

  34. Steve

    Sunderland (h), West Ham (h), Fulham (h).

Yes, we are in a position to take shit likely.

I have a spare ticket for the Burnley game (sitting with me you lucky fuckers) for the Burnley game if anyone is interested.

  35. A

disagree completely re song chary, our failures to win games is not one percent to do with him, because he has no offensive duties whatsoever!

i know what you mean by ade, though i don’t think he thinks we just need to turn up to win, but he thinks he’s the shit so doesn’t have to play for the team or put in any effort anymore, and if things aren’t going his way then it’s everyone’s fault but his.

agree completely with your second paragraph, was saying the other day – when everyone gets nervous and the pressure builds up as games go on we don’t have a single real leader who’s going to take the game by the scruff of the neck and make something happen, everyone is just too scared of messing up and the crowd getting on their backs so they give the responsibility to someone else, it’s a troublesome situation

  36. Geoff

Matt you need to go into Le exchange and go from there mate.

Steve, let’s see how many ‘Real fans’ take you up on that!

  37. Steve

Blackstock Road. Out of the Arsenal station, chuck a left, keep walking. To be sure to be sure o’beejusus.

  38. Steve

Oirish, come out of Arsenal tube station, chuck a left immediately, walk for maybe 6-7 minutes (10-15 as you are a boird), stop at zebra crossing, cross road once traffic stops, see Arsenal Tavern, S+B next door.

  39. charybdis1966

Don’t forget Irish, after 1 minute of walking you’ll cross Avenell Road, where you’ll see the historic East Stand façade on your right and the chippy on your left where I consume excessively vinegary chips to help me sober up after getting lager’d up with reprobates at aforesaid S + B.
After 4 minutes walking you’ll see “The Sandwich box” on your left, just before the junction with Blackstock Road, with 3 0r 4 tables on the pavement, even if it’s chucking down with rain.

  40. irishgunner

ha ha just feckin around and youtube and watched that video of Redknapp getting hit with the football while doing the interview – what a twat wouldn’t ya think he’d laugh it off, he got so upset the plum!!

  41. charybdis1966

I narrowly avoided a huge mound of police horse crap there once so I get a little nauseous at the mention myself Steve. There’s also a school on your right after the chippy and before the Sandwich box. What else ? A few grocery shops on the left just before the school.

  42. Hollywood Hotsauce

RVP fluffs chances its bad luck….Adebayor misses its because he’s shit….I know he’s shit but boy wonder’s finishing is just as bad sometimes

  43. Steve

If Arry gets clumped on the wrong side of the noodle he goes adios. He maybe got a bit touchy because of his impact tolerance.

  44. Arsenal Tom

eddie should be back after the burnley game, give him 2 chances a game and keep the clean sheets going and we’ll be laughing

  45. Goonerman

I am fed up of reading the Myles Palmer, ANR, website, he is far too objective which depresses me even more in these difficult times!!

  46. leon

does any one rate ade because i think he is but he has no in between for me he is either realy or realy bad from what i ihave seen i think we need a striker not play maker just goal poacher

  47. irishgunner

I think Adebayor is a good player, I honestly don’t think you score 30 goals a season through sheer luck. However he seems to think he doesn’t need to try anymore but then again its not only him.

  48. Stu

No leon, Ade is just shit and last season was an accumulation of over performing and the midfield doig everything for him…and maybe a bit of workrate for the first few months.

  49. peachesgooner

    hi irish

I have to disagree with you on ade – most of his goals were sheer luck – if he was any good he’d have scored 50 with all the chances created for him :)

  50. Stu

I aint backtracking. Im just convering all the possibilities. He is still shit.

Thanks Peaches. At least someone agrees with me.

  51. timao

I can’t believe it – i thought villa 2-0 stoke was a result and I haven’t looked at anything football related since… woohoo! we can definitely get back up there now. Get in!

  52. irishgunner

Interesting article on Wilshere on Young Guns which explains his recent disappearance:

“Arsène Wenger has moved to protect Jack Wilshere’s development, in counter-balancing his run of indifferent form by letting the 17-year-old go ‘back-to-basics’.

Wilshere’s performances have taken a dip since Arsenal’s elimination from the Carling Cup at the hands of Burnley in December, and Wenger has resisted the temptation to use Jack in recent Premiership and Champions League fixtures. Indeed, the Hitchin born winger has only made the bench once in the last 6 first team encounters.

Fran Mérida and Amaury Bischoff are rapidly becoming the preferred options as the ‘spare’ midfielder, and both now regularly train with Arsène’s usual squad.

The slump took prominence during the F.A Youth Cup games, where Wilshere was marked out of the 3-1 win against Wolves, and then subbed off during the 4-0 romp over Sunderland. Jack seemed frustrated with the decision, and decided to leave the ground early with his watching parents rather than stay and travel with his team mates. Steve Bould hinted that his shift wasn’t good enough after the full time whistle.

‘Wilsh’ marked his debut for England’s Under 19’s with another indifferent 90 minutes, and Wenger has used his vast knowledge to help transform his fortunes. The Frenchman will allow Reserves coach Neil Banfield to ‘look after’ the left footed maestro for final few months of the season, and attempt to draw the deadly form back out of his star man.

Dips in performances are common things for young players, but the next months are all about Jack’s character and how he bounces back.

But make no mistakes, Arsenal still have an outstanding young prospect on their hands.

    Article By – J.Sanderson

  53. Stu

    Irish, thanks for the updates.

On Merida, Wenger said he wasnt physically strong enough to get first team games but a lot of the young’uns in recent seasons havent been strapping themselves either. And Merida clearly has the footballing talent so why doesnt he get the chances?

  54. irishgunner

Stu – Merida is back in the squad for tomorrow night I think. Wenger seems to be bringing him into play – he might get a run out against Burnley IF we are winning comfortably.

On another note – the young polish goalkeeper Szczensy who broke his two arms during the season. He returned to training last week …. and broke his toe. Some people have no luck.

  55. A

that article was a few days ago irish, there’s a new one today because wenger has come out talking about wilshere, and merida –

Jack Wilshere has not been on the bench recently but that is because at his age you do not want him to be a professional bench warmer. When you have three games in a week, the players involved in the squad don’t have proper training as such because of the games, they don’t need more intense football and that is not good for a 17 year-old like Jack, so he is benefiting more from having proper training sessions.

Wenger has also praised the progress of Spanish starlet Fran Mérida

I try to rotate a bit and Fran Merida has been on the bench recently- that is because he has been doing very, very well. He looks really good in training and is getting stronger all the time. It just shows that there is competition everywhere here- even on the bench.

Fran could find himself back in the first-team picture for tomorrow’s trip to the Hawthorns to take on West Brom after William Gallas pulled out with an ankle injury.

Wenger went on to discuss Thursday’s meeting with North London rivals Spurs in the FA Youth Cup.

Jack is part of the FA Youth Cup squad and I will hopefully be at the game at White Hart Lane on Thursday to watch the youth team in their quarter-final match. The competition means a lot to the players and also the club. It’s always reassuring to feel like the future is not under threat because we have a good youth team. In a game like this I think it is also good to see the young players under pressure. For them this competition is like the Champions League and to see how they respond at this stage of the competition, to me, is very instructive.

why do people think merida will be in the squad for tomorrow, instead of gallas?

  56. irishgunner

A – Saw them both – I think I posted them backwards LOL

Thats the only person Merida could come in for isn’t it?? Which doesn’t make sense unless AW will leave Song on the bench as CB cover and then Merida as an extra midfield option?

  57. A

usually slag off ex players etc and a hell of a lot of them along with pundits are absolutely clueless but article in which paul parker actually speaks some sense re ronaldo’s free kicks – http://fourfourtwo.com/news/england/25994/default.aspx

first “expert” to come out and say what every single utd fan or anyone who watches ronaldo regularly has known for ages! Rather than the bollocks most commentators speak

  58. A

yeah i was thinking it wouldn’t really make sense, as another centre back would be more likely, but then thought that we don’t have another centre back! Yeah i’d guess we’ll have enough cover with fabianski, song, eboue, gibbs, merida, ramsey then whichever forward doesn’t start.

Are merida and ramsey elligible for the youth cup team?

  59. Stu

Ronaldos free kick against Blackburn wasnt even all that good. It was straight over Fat Robinsons head. Awful goalkeeping imo.

  60. irishgunner

A – thats funny because I was having a heated debate about how Carlos was way overrated particularly his free-kicks, the guy reckoned Carlos was a better left back than Maldini and he kept harping on about his free-kicks while he never saw his ratio of free-kicks per goals was awful, even Ronaldo is better than him.

  61. A

yeah i agree stu – robinson should have saved it, absolutely attrocious reflexes. If it was hit like vp used to hit them then fair enough, but it wasn’t even hit that hard!

surely that’s not true re carlos < ronaldo in free kick efficiency, i didn’t think there had ever been a player who had a worse conversion rate!

  62. Stu

I remember Wilshere playing against someone in the youth cup a while back. Think it was southhampton. 3-1?

  63. irishgunner

Wilshere is in the youth team but don’t think Merida and Ramsey are…

Carlos had an awful conversion rate – in all fairness he’s an awful free-kick taker. Le tournoi was le fluke. Beckham is a good free – kick taker, he uses placement over power.

  64. SFOGunner

Funny how much luck villa have .. Carew’s freak of a goal goes in .. Now Robinho and Bellamy are injured for their next game with Man City ..

  65. A

yeah irish, just thought it’d be nice to play our strongest team and get into double figures against spuds! though actually a they’ll most likely be involved at some point against burnley

  66. A

i dunno irish, the only high profile one is bostock isn’t it? That forward who started in the uefa cup for them was 17 so i’d guess he’s a youth team player?

  67. A

yeah i remember as the clown simon jordon claimed he’s the best player in the world in his position of his age, though simon jordon is just an idiot and obviously it’d be beneficial to him to talk him up as he wanted as much compensation as possible. He’s a couple of weeks younger than wilshere i believe so wouldn’t expect him to make a big impact just yet.

could be the bostock vs wilshere show

  68. irishgunner

A – there is a Palace fan on the site I write on and he was very angry Bostock left. Think he had talked all the talk about Palace but then hightailed it to Spurs as soon as it arose. Same old stuff really.

Speaking of Palace – Anthony Stokes has gone on loan there. He looked promising too during his youth years at Arsenal.

  69. Stu

Damn it Irish! Your fecking cats are running amuck all over the place! Im having to chace them to help the madra out!!!

(ps they’re probably not yours but you know…)
