Eddie Murphy once told a joke about how women use sex to keep you interested… I can’t remember how it went exactly… but I remember him saying how pretty women don’t put out for the first 6 months you start dating, leaving a man hanging… then when they actually do buckle… it’s like a starving man receiving a plain cracker… and it being the god damn tastiest cracker he ever did eat…

Is Arshavin our plain old cracker? Have we been starved of transfer action for so long that we truly believe this man is going to come over from an unproven league and cure all our ills? Honestly… I think we are in for a disappointment.

How many players come over from outside the league and settled immediately? How many players could be creative in our current midfield? It takes ten minutes to move the ball up the pitch… half the time the eventual pass to a creative man is misplace… and even then, our strikers struggle to finish. Jeez… even Cesc could only manage 3 assists in 15 games this year.

Today’s team was short of ideas, short of drive and short of quality. There is no way of sugar coating the performance, because it was no different to the last ten games. Loads of sideways movement, loads of misplaced passes and loads of shot shyness. Long gone are the days of a busy Mr Green… he could have pulled up a portable DVD player and watched his movie of choice for an hour and a half, knowing he’d only have to get up once or twice.

I’ve got no passion for today’s match report (Well, that’s a lie… but you get what I mean)… because I’ve written it 15 times already this season. There is no anger on my part… just acceptance that we aren’t that good, and the coach isn’t really that fussed. Acceptance that the board have become so complacent… they also don’t really care, so long as they scramble 4th. Instead of trying to work out how they can increase gate numbers next year, they are looking at ways of softening the blow… and it’s all a bit disappointing.

When did we stop becoming a sports club? When did we decide that making money was our only objective?

I might as well go and support Microsoft or Coca Cola… they have the same goals as Arsenal… maximise revenue even if it is at the expense of the end product… get by doing the minimum.

Negatives:

Eboue:

A disgrace to the Arsenal shirt. He makes my blood boil… I really was chuffed to bits to see him get taken off because you know he didn’t really injure himself, don’t you? He’ll be back for Cardiff. For the 35 minutes he was on, he lost the ball nearly every time he was in possession… he started playing up front despite being right midfield… and he was feigning injury again.

Never, have I been so repulsed by an Arsenal player.

Diaby:

Ok, he hasn’t played that many games in the middle… but the games he has played, have been nothing short of terrible. For someone so big, he lacks any sort of power… which does make you wonder what he does in his spare time when injured. He seems to lack football intelligence… he receives the ball in a great positions, and doesn’t let go of it for an eternity (Or until he is dispossesed). I really thought he was going to give us a creative edge…

He is no solution for me… I’d like a player who is ready now… not in 3 years time.

How many times this season have we put forward an idea, only to be disappointed when Wenger actions it? Rambo, Eboue, Song… now Diaby…

Adebayor:

I used to love him… he was average from technical perspective, but he had heart. Where did it go? Where has his drive gone? At least when he was rubbish and poor (He only used to get £35k a week don’t you know?) he put it in for the team… now he seems to want everything gifted to him on a plate. He’s not being given the same service as he was last year, but that is no excuse. He has to try harder… if he doesn’t, I’d replace him with Nik.

Positives:

Nasri:

He looks a little fat to me… but hey, I’m no fitness expert. He is slow, but he does work the ball around very well. He tried his socks off today, and that is all I ask for as a fan. I’m looking forward to seeing him in the middle with Denilson.

Denilson:

I started the season wondering what he was all about… and now I am beginning to understand. He clears up defensively very well, he is a good basic passer of the ball and he has an eye for a cross. With the right players around him, he could become a very good player… and I do love his effort.

RVP:

Why he was started on the bench, I will never know… it was a weak decision… Ade should have been there. Robin is fast becoming Mr Arsenal and I love it… the fans love him and he loves us. If he continues on the same track… cult hero status is sure to follow. He was the only player to come over and acknowledge us at Goodision, and for that, I have the utmost respect.

Vela:

What! VELA! In the positives! But he was largely ineffective?

Indeed my friends… he was… but he hasn’t played for a while…

Give him the same chances Eboue has been given and I think you might find he is flying in a couple of weeks. How much worse can an off form Carlos Vela be compared to Emmanuel ’30 games, no goals, no assists’ Eboue?

Be patient guys… he could blossom!

There are clearly some positives… but by ignoring the negatives… Wenger is once again lining us up for a disappointing end to the season…

I love the guy… but I don’t feel he has any excuse for what is going on at the moment… West Ham came and played without fear… a familiar trait these days. Arsenal aren’t a pleasure at moment… and everyone can see it… when Arsene says we are only 2% away from competing dominating, I wonder if he is seeing the same glaring problems as we are?

I’m refusing the accept the injured players coming back line… big clubs have big competition for places. A kick up the arse is what most of our players need… and the kids coming through need to start learning off great players.

P.S. I briefly mentioned this in the comments yesterday.

Reading headlines like, ‘I hope we fail so the glory hunters go elsewhere’ is embarrassing.

If you asked a neutral who was worse… the fan who moaned because they wanted success so badly, or the fan who wanted failure for his club to stop the moaners… you know who they’d say was worse.

By failing, we would lose a chunk of our huge fanbase (Forget the Asian fans), lose all the trappings that go hand in hand with being a Champions League club (TV Revenue, shirt sales, seeing the best players in the world at the Emirates), we’d lose appeal amongst players, the next generation of Gooners and we would put our whole future in jeopardy… but hey, at least we’ll lose some of those glory hunters on the way… Hanging out in a half empty stadium that we’d struggle to afford, with people who were happier in the eighties sounds like a great laugh.

Any supporter who wants the above is in actual fact, not a supporter…they are an enemy of the club, and should be ashamed. Their is no room at the Emirates for failiure hunters…

    I think Arshavins in pretty good shape, i know there was a story about how it’ll be weeks beofre he’s ready, but Zenit have been in pre-season for a while now (erm, I think!) so, please gawd/Buddha/Allah, he’s ready, more or less!

    I would have felt a lot happier if Ramos was still around. Redknapp will plan to defend hard and with the difficulties we have been having in trying to break down massed defences, I am very worried.

    Raif, I want a 4-0 as payback for the last game, but I know that 3 points is the most I can hope for.

    I’m with BBK on that one. I had a heart attack in June last year and every time I watch an Arsenal match now, I have fears for my life. Especially when we are ahead and have 5 minutes left to play.

    its amazing how the stewards get blamed for doing their job. You all moan when the players dont do their job. The Government implement the rules not the stewards. I have been going to The Arsenal since1970 and we were never the loudest unless it was a big game. The atmosphere problem isn’t because you can’t stand. I work in yellow upper and when an individual starts singing others look at them as if they are deranged. I agree the rules are nonsense but I have never heard a steward stop anyone from singing, swearing yes but not singing. Arsenal shaver will be a good signing for us as we need a lift. We must give him time to adapt though so dont expect instant results unless he IS 6th best in the world. The Elvis song isn’t great but is better than the old brass band. Le Grove can play a part in the atmosphere by asking all season ticket holders to meet when renewing and getting all singers to sit/stand together. I am a steward and I sing myself when possible, you should see the reaction to that. The Spuds should help our forwards regain confidence because they have the worst defence I have seen this season. Up the Arse.

    gutted that Given went to Man shifty as this is our weakest area. We need a keeper desperately. Did anyone see the pass that the Tapas bar waiter gave to the Shammers guy the other day? The Clown had fuck all to do but still made a mess of it.

    Given is used to being occupied in games and if he came here he wouldnt have it the same way. He would only face about 3 shots a game. He would probably lack the concentration to only make a few saves a game.

    I’d rather promote Fabianski.

    I agree angry Given is over rated we urgently need a keeper though. We can’t have a 2 shots on target 1 goal conceded keeper in our Team. No matter who plays in defence it won’t make a difference with him in goal.

    Sagna is the only one i would count out of those 3. Vela never got a consistent run in the team, but he was great when he did play but only at CF. He doesnt play enough for me. Nasri is very hit and miss too.

    I think Nasri is one of the better ones and I think he looks far better in the middle. At times I think the others bypass him. That is the problem for me we are playing in little groups instead of as a Team.

    anyone else think Eboue would make a great running back, he is like Forrest Gump on his runs after all. I think Song would make a good Linebacker too, he likes to clumsely charge into people.

    Just to let you know guys there are stewards who are arseholes and I hate doing the job but its the only way for me to see the games these past 15 years. I do make people angry but there are chancers going to games who just take the piss. They sneak booze into the viewing area or just start a problem saying I am only looking. This stupid fucking rule applies to all fans not just ours. The smokers sneak into the toilets or hide on the staircases which proves they know what they are doing but they play dumb when they get caught. This is a Government law not an Arsenal stewards law. Yes Arsenal stewards are a pain in the nuts to some but a majority of the tourists/fans don’t complain at all. Watching football is fantastic compared to my North Bank days but younger generations think they are missing out. The pushing and shoving the crushing and having your feet stamped on wasn’t always fun. Yes the buzz was awesome but I missed many goals and many magic moments in the good old days because I missed it as the giant in front of me got in the way. They should bring back standing areas for those that want it and also drop the admission prices.

    Back from holiday ):

    I watched the game against the hammers & was as frustrated as everyone. Some things I did note about the performance, & sorry but they are all negative.

    Why, when you are trying to close ground on 4th spot do you not start with your in form goal scorer ;)

    Diaby,if you notice, holds on to the ball too long; he doesn’t have the confidence to put through a pass like a superstar of the Bergkamp/Viera ilk. By the time his brain says now, the defenders have it covered. The only player out there, other than RVP & he was on the pine for 65+ minutes, was Nasri who is class & a half. Oh how we miss Cesc, Rosicky & the short “jabbing” of Eduardo.

    What about Clichy. I know he is very unproductive and Gibbs is good going forward but Gibbs doesnt instill confidence when he has to defend.

    Also a VERY attacking team.

    Wenger shows manure, chelski & liverwurst the uttmost respect with his preparation, which has been reflected in the results so far.

    Yet it appears he is too arrogant to give the same preparation to games against lower teams, only to come out with the same old shit of we will overcome coz we play passing football.

    Surely leaving RVP on the bench was a risk that you take 5 points ahead of 5th place not 5 points behind 4th.

    West Ham, as Hull, Stoke, etc had a game plan. A mission, and we had the same old same old.

    You are right mate the rapier attacks of yesteryear are gone. Diaby and Dennilson slow the game down. I like Dennilson though as he is showing improvement the more games he gets unlike Ebooooooeeee, Coco and Clichy. This isn’t helped by Ethans mate being so fucking lifeless, when is he going to put in a shift. Even when he doesn’t score he should be scary but he isn’t bothered since he mugged us for cash. Wheres the width, I have seen RVP play wide for the Dutch and he looks good out wide and doesn’t the game liven up when Vela comes on even if he isn’t on form himself. Why didn’t we bid for the likes of Bullard or Nolan? they are not Arsenal class but better than Song, same as Given?

    I personally think Clichy is weak and always has been, he is eye candy because he has good technique but Gibbs looked strong when he got his chance plus he is tall and wins some aerial duels.

    Gnarley, AW has never been a tactician he just concentrates on what we do best and if that goes wrong then so be it.

    You in your garage mate? Good to see you again. I think Denilson needs time that will pay dividends, but I’m running out of patience with Diaby & Ebuoe.

    Eboue looked ok for the 1st 10 minutes, but, a better player would have converted one of those chances he had, & we would have forced west ham to change tactics.

    Pre game wenger must have given Eboue a job to run @ the defence, which he did in waves, to get freee kicks. But why leave your free kick specialist on the bench when implementing the plan.

I mean Clichy is as fit as anything on the planet but all his ball running comes in the middle third and does fuck all in the end thirds of the pitch. That wanker at the Chavs is still best in Prem IMO. I want a Winterburn type in personally. Clichy cant cross and loses possesion in dangerous areas

    Has anyone else noticed the Arsenal players who fell over in the area and getting booked. They should all wear the winkers shirt along with the vulgar Bulgar and ChavRooney. Then we would get Pens instead of bookings. Rafa is my hero and was right the other weeek. MUTV/Sky hyped it up that Rafa was mad and lost the plot. What chance do we have in stopping the cheats.

    That was Vela that got booked. He was sandwiched between 2 players and expected not to go down. Not a stone waller but they definately get given to a lot of other teams. It was as much of a penalty as Taylors today.

    The only player in our squad that could even be consdiered as world class are Cesc, RvP and Rosicky. Other than that we have mostly average players, players who arent as good as they could be or kids who are not ready.

I think Villa on the up is good for football and it is up to us to raise our standards. there must be more competition to the Mancscummers for us to progress as they have many allies oop North.

I think we are close to being the best ever but we need the injured players fit. I agree with Cesc, RVP, Sicky but also think Sagna,Nasri,Vela,LJW,Dennilson,Theo will be awesome very soon. There are too many weak players in the first Team at the moment

    Terrific performance from the man linked with a move to Arsenal. A really energetic showing; he was all over the pitch, particularly in the second half. Win Saint-Etienne a great deal of possession, putting in numerous fine challenges.

    In the scheme of things, Arsenal don’t even rate anymore as a fixture that gets neutrals blood pulsating back here in OZ, & that is worrying coz in a time of economic shit I would have thought it better business to sell the product to the people for shirt, etc sales, rather than pander to the corporate “dollar”. All they care about is paying million dollar bonus’s to failed wankers with business degrees. After they have been paid from the taxpayer bail outs, there is nothing left for a footy club.
